Jerk, horrible attendence policy, isnt cooperative, just an overall jerk
Sucks
This guy is a jerk, he treats his students badly, and I didn't learn anything. I would not recemmend any of his classes on anyone. This man is a conservative and he tries to put his political views on all of his students through class assignments.
This professor is a jerk and a very bad teacher.
wow he wasnt all that bad...and the attendance policy wasnt all that bad...just dont miss a ton of class..i thought it was super easy
I took his reading course, and despite what some people here say, I believed him to be one of the absolute best teachers I have had. I will respect him forever. Amazing person, great teacher.
I thought he was a great teacher. He's really into the details in stories, so make sure you pay attention to things you might not find important i.e. the color of a character's shirt or something.
Was obviously in love with himself. I took this class for enrichment. His teaching ability and the atmosphere he cultivated in the classroom was sub-standard. I no longer consider classes at a comm. college an alternative to intro classes at more expensive four-year universities. He should teach at a boot camp for delinquents.
I took his class a while ago, but I have to say, he was a great teacher. He got me interested in authors and societies from the past.
Selected interesting topics and made himself readily available for any questions. I took this class online, but he seemed to be very straight forward with what he expected from our class. No hidden surprises.
I took an online class with him and thought it would be better than the teacher I had last semester, whom I dropped. I asked him a question to see if I had the correct book because I didn't know what he was talking about and all he had to say was "if you would have read the material assigned you would have understood me". he's not understanding at
The man is fullof himself and seems like he has a split personality. One moment he is fine, the next he flips out...Not stable.
I took his class online and loved it. It was extremely easy and found that all that I had to do was what he asked. He doesn't make things difficult, he just expects you to listen and try.
I loved him and eventually took another class with him. There is a quiz every week that add up quickly in the gradebook, but they come right from the summary in the chapters and class discussion. He was great and entertaining. This class was the high point of my day, it was downhill from there. Sometimes he doesn't come in when the weather is bad.
The only reason I took this was because I liked the teacher. I did not think I would enjoy the class as much as I did. It is a composition of short stories that are very interesting. Weekly quizes used random questions, but he explains why they are important. Loved this class!
i can understand the comments about his ego, but a real great guy once you get to know him. he is different, but overall real cool. he and i got started off on a bad note, then ended up enjoying his class really well. easy information, easy tests, and if he likes you he will give you a better score then if he doesnt...SERIOUSLY. i shouldve had a B.
Mr. Sharp is fun, down to earth, knowledgeable in his area of study and conducts a stimulating enjoyable class.
This is the worst professor I ever had. The class lacked any resemblance to structure. If he was on time, he would often leave the class for 15 minutes at a time. Many hours wasted. The quizes he would give would be bogus. As far as actually learning anything new in the class nope!
Professor Dave Sharp Rocks. He makes the class not only interesting but fun.I would and have recommended him to everyone I've talked to.
I would highly recommend any of Prof. Sharp's classes. He has a real sense of give/take with his students and gives a lot of guidance.
Mr. Sharp is an awesome teacher. If you make discussions in class then he will like you better. You also have a 5 question quiz, with a bunch of bonus questions every morning so if you don't read your but then you are screwed! Quizzes are extremely easy. Test are decent, but don't expect to breeze through it all. I did very well, but a lot failed
A lot of people in my online class seemed lost, but all the information was in the assignments sheets. I guess you shouldn't take his online course if you're bad with instructions. He's very strict about deadlines and accepts absolutely no late work for any reason. Do what's expected and you'll be fine.
Mr. Sharp was so cool. His voice sounds like Tom Hanks, which is super awesome. He brings the class together with the discussions and does a good job at helping out whenever it is needing. His assignments aren't difficult if you try.
This teacher is a class A Jerk. He has absolutley no respect for his online students, if you ask for help he is rude and obnoxious! This teacher is a anal, disrespectful, rude educator and I wouldn't refer him to anyone!!
The absolute worst example of a teacher
Professor Sharp is one of the best professors that I have had. I will say that, if you don't do the req. work, you will not do well in his class. He is a tough professor, but overall, he is extremely fair. To anyone who complains about Professor Sharp, you are in college now, and maybe you should take the time to learn the concept of accountability
I've taken one of his classes online, and on campus. He's awesome. You do have to do the work, and show up. If you try, you'll make a good grade. He is also super hilarious!
AWESOME TEACHER!! You can tell he loves his subject and wants his students to share his passion. Fun group discussions. Gets involved with students. Tests are clear. Need to do the work to get the grade however homework is very reasonable. Funny and charming all aroung great teacher!!
He's a really good teacher, makes class enjoyable to go to everyday. Get's to know the students and has a fun attitude. As long as you take notes, go to class, and study you should get an A. This wasn't my favorite subject but definitely my favorite class to go to.
I took his online class. The class itself is not bad, I actually enjoyed some parts of it. The quizzes were easy just read the chapters. The chapter tests are the hard part, it seemed like only half the ?'s we read about. The 1st few tests seemed hard and the last 2 seemed easier. Make sure to do the discussions and check back on them.
I have taken many internet classes & his is a LOT of work. If his class had been my only class it would have worked better for me b/c he demands all of your time. He wants you online all of the time & has a ton of discussion requirements & sometimes 2 or 3 weekly quiz that are closed book & closed notes. He's not understanding & has attitude.
I see a lot of negative comments about Mr. Sharp on here, but he is one of my absolute favorite teachers I've ever had. I had him for English class and decided to take his mass comm class ONLY because I enjoyed his class so much. I definitely recommend taking his class. (in person, not online! great personality!)
GREAT Teacher! He breaks everything down for you to understand and will answer questions and emails. He keeps the class friendly and easy going. Always something to laugh at in his class. Everyday there is a quiz over the reading but it is no more then 5 questions over no more than 8 or less pages. Great class wish I could have him again.
Mr. Sharp is a great teacher. You definitely need to buy both books; he's kicked out a few people for not having them. There's around six papers due the entire semester, plus a few online quizzes here and there. If you are a good writer and taking 101 you'll fly by without doing much work. Two absences allowed, third absence = lose a letter grade.
I took Sharp for Detective Fiction online. You basically read seven books throughout the semester and discuss online (with one paper and two tests). Make sure you participate in discusssions, or he WILL drop you. He is not helpful online, and is very strict about his guidelines. If you tend to need extra help, he is not the teacher for you.
I took two classes from Mr. Sharp because I absolutely loved his class! He's a great teacher and really helps the student get involved in what they're doing. I only took his classes in person, not online... so I can't speak for any online class.
Loved Sharp. He's hilarious in class. He doesn't grade too harshly. No surprise quizes. As long as you show up to class and do the readings and the papers, you shouldn't fail. Also, take what he teaches into consideration when writing papers. He likes to help as much as can. Definitely recommend him.
Was very unforgiving regarding technical issues. The syllabus was difficult to follow. The course isn't hard so much as time consuming. He spent all of the discussion pushing his paranoid political agenda instead discussing relevant material. All quizzes and tests are multiple choice with several answers that could be correct. Would not recommend.
I loved this class. I was not looking forward to taking English 101, but it turned out to be a very entertaining and educational class. If you are in college don't act like you are still 15. He clearly states his expectations and you conform or fail. Be a grown up,do your work, participate, and you will do fine.
Fantastic example of a teacher, I recommend his class to everyone I talk to. He makes the classroom so much fun to be in all while giving great insight over stories and questions we have in class. Cannot speak highly enough of this man!
All discussion postings were political, media is so much more, but felt I was being propaganded in politics then talking media. No diversity in this just POLITICS discussions. Unforgiven with computer glitches, quizzes were hard because the questions seems opened ended and confusing. Im an A-B student, I'm lucky to get a c in this class.
Great teacher!
Prof. Sharp was a great teacher. I always looked forward to class. All I had to do to do well was read the reading assignments (which were interesting and relatively short), and study a little for the tests. I learned a lot in this class.
He was your average English teacher. He assigns papers that are about 3-4 pages which is nice. He has you turn in a rough draft then he corrects it, and if you make all the corrections you should do well in the class. Has online quizzes and some in class, make sure you read the short stories though because those were kind of hard.
Sharp is an amazing professor. I hadn't taken a history or literature class since high school and had a tough time jumping into this one. I wouldn't understand the readings. He explains them so well that it made the test that much easier. Im not saying its a walk in the park, you have to study for his tests. But he is willing to help. TAKE HIM.
David's american literature class is a wonderful experience. His classes are engaging and entertaining. You will come to class expecting to learn just the material, but will leave with more. The best way to pass David's class is to show up every class, do the readings, and participate. The class is easy as long as you do what is asked.
Professor Sharp is such a great teacher. Even though there were quizzes everyday in his class, the class was worth taking. Professor Sharp is by far my favorite professor because he makes teaching fun and interesting. For the most part Professor Sharp chooses fairly interesting stories for his students to read. I would definitely recommend him!
Such a great class!!
This class is what you make it, daily short quizzes over what you read at home. If you read and show up to class you should get an A. Format of his tests are something to ask about once review time comes around. Other than that be straight forward with him, he is willing to help if you ask! Would highly recommend and would take this class again!
He explains things in such a clear cut way, that you really learn the material. He makes class interesting and fun to be in, even if you're not into the topic. The feedback he provides on essays really helps build up writing skills, and if you listen to his corrections, the class becomes pretty easy. I enjoyed this professor and his classes.
This is the least understanding professor i have ever had in my entire life. He is unnecessarily rude and condescending. If you are in any way in a tough spot in your life do NOT take this professor. He dose not care at all about you or your grade.
Honestly, this class sucks, but he makes the best out of it. The readings aren't very interesting, but you have to read them. You have a small quiz every class and three tests. Ten percent of your grade is based on facilitation, so be prepared to participate it makes a letter grade difference. I would definitely take one of his classes again.
David Sharp tries to be extremely tough and intimidating the first couple of weeks. So many people eventually drop out. But if you take the time to talk to him, he is actually very nice and helpful. He is more understanding than people think. Just make sure you take his work serious, because if you do he will help you become a great writer.
Too political as a teacher if you disagree with him you will fail his class so get ready to write whatever he wants to hear.
His class seemed tough at first, but once you get into it, it's actually very fun. The readings are not hard, you always know what's due, and he gives excellent feedback on how to improve for next time. He has a very funny humor and I would absolutely take any class of his again.
The first few weeks he was intimidating. Overall great person & teacher. He made a hard class fun! The readings were nice usually took quizzes over them as well as quizzes over psm every reading. Sharp was a tough grader, but taught me so much. For the final we watched 911 and answered questions. Very smart man he prepared me well ready for 102
I looked forward to every class with Professor Sharp. He was very clear in his expectations and grading style. If you read what you're assigned, pay attention in class, and learn from his annotations, then you will do well. Mr. Sharp is hilarious and knowledgable, and likes facilitation, so participate! Again, loved this class.
exciting lectures, goes off topic often - in a good way
He was a hard teacher. All of his quizzes were easy because he told what we needed to read. However, when it came to writing papers, he made me question my level of writing. He doesn't give feedback on final papers or extra credit. When class is over, he just leaves not waiting until all his students leave first. He like what he likes.
I really wanted to like this class, but just couldn't largely because of this instructor. It might just have been the way he went about an 8-week online course, but it just didn't make sense at all. Was supposed to take another class with him next semester, but dropped it after I realized how much I didn't get along with his teaching methods.
This was one of the first classes i took when i entered college and the professor was a little hard and makes you really work for your grade but that was expected of a college professor. He was very specific in how he wanted things done but i really enjoyed his class.
This is my second semester of college and I worked my butt off to get a 4.0 last semester. This class has ruined my "straight a's". I am a secondary English education major, therefore I am a decent writer. Mr. Sharp, however, gave me a C on every single paper I wrote for him. He claimed that it was "organizational errors" which was not true.
This class was different to say the least. Mr. Sharp gave a 5 point quiz over the assigned reading every day. Be prepared to keep up on the readings because the quizzes will have very specific questions on them. If you do well on the quizzes you will be fine. The exams are fairly easy just be sure to keep all of the material given in class.
Really good teacher, definitely can tell he has been doing his job for years. Show up every day and don't miss any quizzes. Follow the midterm and final instructions exactly. Missing one day takes 5 points (total 300ish) off your grade because you can't retake quizzes.
Sharp is very knowledgeable in his field. You can tell he's been doing this for a while. I totally loved his class. You have to be there everyday, and there was always a 5 point quiz that usually has 6/7 questions per quiz. the daily quizzes are held over the readings he assigns each class. pay attention to the readings and this class is an easy A
For a first level composition and reading class, I feel as though this was for experts at writing. Really stressed me out, dont recommend.
Most of the articles can be found elsewhere, instead of buying the book. I only needed the book for author background information or to know what poems were included. He took the online class from someone else, and it shows. Beware of deadlines. And online part is unorganized, as it takes looking at several posts to understand criteria.
Professor Sharp did not have boring lectures. Each and every class was filled with fun banter along with the usual material.
Sharp was my professor my my online American Literature class. He did absolutely no teaching and I learned very little. The class consisted of reading the assigned weekly readings, picking a discussion prompt, and discussing it via an online forum/chat. That was it. While he doesn't grade very hard he put minimum effort into teaching.
Rude and doesnt grade papers fairly.
Sharp is a funny guy, his class was fun. We wrote 4 essays total and the instructions were VERY clear and exact. You know exactly what he's looking for. Make sure you read the instructions/examples and you will be fine. You must go to class every day, he is very strict about attendance. You also must participate/talk in class. You are graded on it.
He gave a paper with a few spellings mistakes a C.
Learning structure is very straightforward: read, discuss, take quiz/test. Repeat every week of class. Let yourself be interested in the material and this class will be a breeze. Do not skip the readings, and make sure to take the practice quizzes as many times as you need: they correspond to actual quiz questions.
He does not want to be bothered with any questions. Extremely hard grader for first time college class. Honestly, I would avoid taking his class. He thinks he is always right and the requirements for a paper does not match any of the other teachers for an english class. Tutors said my papers were good but he disagreed.
Every paper is worth many points. He grades the rough drafts for 200 points, and then the final papers themselves are worth about the same amount. He grades very hard. In his eyes, a 70% on the paper is a good grade. Do not have him as your professor, he is inconsiderate. There is no chance to raise grades because he does not answer emails or help.
hard grader, horrible lessons, horrible class, and an even more horrible teacher. do not take this class, run while you have the chance.
Really nice guy, very helpful, great sense of humor. I've never been a fan of English but he honestly made the class fun. You will have to put in work and provide good effort and quality work on your assignments, but he will still give you plenty of help. Definitely the best English professor I've had at Maple Woods.
Expects you to write at a master's level in English or else you will get a bad grade. Find another professor if you want to be able to write about what you want rather than what he wants.
Very wash, rinse, and repeat style of teaching. Read the assigned piece as homework, take a quiz over it next class and discuss it after. Very funny and good at holding the attention of the class. If you do the assignments right and do the extra credit answers on the quizzes, you should get a very high overall grade like I did.
It's an English 101 class but, he expects more from you than he should. It is his way or the highway. Even when he is wrong, he isn't wrong. A student tried to quote the reading to show how the answer for a pop quiz was wrong, and he wouldn't allow it even though the student was correct.
Prof Sharp is super fun! The class is very simple: read a story, take a comprehension quiz over it, and discuss the story. Beware of filling out the sheets completely! Those questions are on the midterm and final. Read every story, even if you're absent. Super amazing and hilarious class but doing the work is critical.
Professor Sharp's class was a great experience, he is specific about what he's looking for in papers and provides feedback on how to improve certain aspects for future projects. This class relied on five essays, there are more assignments but the essays should be your main priority since you MUST turn in all five of them to pass. Amazing educator!
My Goat. My favorite professor OAT. Take this class please, you will get a good grade if you just read the stories. The most personable professor i've ever taken.
AMAZING TEACHER! I always got excited to go to his class, because it was that fun. Even though he wasn't there for a decent portion of the semester, I always felt like I got my money's worth when I was there. TAKE THIS TEACHER! HES ONE OF A KIND! IT'S HARD TO EXPLAIN HOW AMAZING HE IS AT TEACHING!
David Sharp's English 101 summer course has to be one of the most difficult online classes that I have ever taken at MCC. He is a very strict grader and will tolerate no excuses. The grade that you get is the grade that you get... Non negotiable. I have never seen an instructor be so narrow. I would not recommend his class to anyone!
