Prof. Shimkin is good at helping you understand texts that aren't easy. I didn't think I could understand, much less like poetry until I took his class. Do what he says and put forth a visible effort, you will be fine. Listen to him closely.

A lot of reading, but you will enjoy them if you like to read literature, he's very helpful, and has a sharp and wity way to make you understand the readings. Make sure to ask questions, he will take that into consideration at the time of grading you.

He is a great teacher. Very easy going and really loves what he does. While he may not be hot in the typical sense of the word I think his enthusiasm and brain make him sexy.

he is a nice teacher but he graded really tuff even thougth he makes you do it over for a better grade.

He is a great professor. I took him twice. Hes a tough grader but he lets you do your papers over until your satisfied with your grade. Helpful too. Great for serious students!

He's easy, if you can sit through his classes. He is quite boring (and I had him for a night class!) but he's a good guy. You should have no problem passing.

Ok Ive taken two classes with Shimkin. The class can be boring as loves to talk and go on and on to the point of redundance. However, if you participate in the discussions and jump in once and a while the class will go by quicker. He is easy with the A's so do your paper thats it! He gives many opportunities to revise !!!!

Professor Shimkin is awesome; he's linient and he makes it fair to pass the course. Also, he's very nice and his lectures are eaisly comprehensible.

class is such an easy A. If you are bad in english this class would be good for you because throughout the whole semester you can keep redoing your papers for a higher grade where he gives tips on how to improve. No exams, just 3 take home essays. Class is extremely boring, he goes off topic too often, but he's a very easy grader and nice professor

Yes the classes are not a trip to Disney World but i thought we were in college. His teaching techniques require you to think and read the material, but he is def not DIFFICULT like other professors. And he allows you to revise so that your writting levels can improve as well as your grade. I think he is more than fair. Very well spoken too.

HE'S NOT A DIFFICULT PROFESSOR. He lets you revise your papers to have a better grade. If you're lazy, don't take him.I wasn't born a writer, yet I got an A. He appreciates people who work hard on their papers.

pretty easy going guy... i failed his class because i never did any of the essays (he says essays can be as long/short as you want them to be) but i still showed up to almost all his classes just because i found the class discussions interesting...

The class in itself was fun. We watched some really good movies including three rock concert documentaries. He is pretty cool and a fair grader but the course load is a little steep. Attendance is important and revising your papers is helpful

i took this prof twice.. because i know that no other professor is like him.. he does what no other prof does, he lets you revise and rewrite your paper, so that you can get a better grade. he also gives you extra time even after the semesters over. attendance is not a must, just keep up with the reading. and keep intouch with him. i say take him!!

Prof. Shimkin is very laid back, nice, and down to earth. He really tries to motivate the inner writer with-in you. He gives the opportunity to re-write papers for a better grade. In fact, he encourages you to re-write your papers. The more revisions you complete the better grade you obtain.

One of my favorite English professors! ^_^ He opened my eyes to a wide array of American Literature--Irving, Melville, Hawthorne, Whitman, and my personal favorite author, Emily Dickinson.I prefer Victorian but, he made American Lit. just as interesting. If you are a lover of literature and writing, he's the professor for you!

Please disregard the comment below mine. You have to be a lazy idiot to not do good in this class! All he wants you to do is PARTICIPATE and actually read what he assigns. The most easy-going professor I ever had. Lets you revise your papers as mush as you want and the final was open book/ open laptop. He couldn't make this class ANY easier!!

Nice guy. 3 papers of unspecified length and an easy final. You should get an A as long as you revise your papers.

Best english professor ever! He's funny and you would never get bored in his class. He gives 3 papers and he's an extremely easy grader. I would definetley recommend him.

He likes having students discuss the books we are required to read. We watch tapes as well in order to further discuss and compare. He is very clear at what is expected in class. Overall a nice guy.

Took him w ap2.. He was just amazing..,made poetry fun..take him u won't b sorry!

Currently taking him for the summer course. He is an easy A! Only requires 2 papers, one of them is the final paper. Attendance and lateness isnt an issue with him. Only bad thing is that he talks A LOT! Other than that, id recommend him to anyone! :)

He gave me a better view of writing and i Got a 65 on my English Regents that's just passing

He's a great professor. He chose interesting books. One about time travelling, one about censorship and the media controlling society, and the other about women becoming slaves for sex. I was always able to correct my essays after receiving a grade. He always gives tips after handing back essays. The only downside was the he spoke a lot.

Great Professor, very chilled and relaxed. Wants you to express your self even if it means making grammatical mistakes. Take this, you wont regret it

This english class is very east .OPEN FINAL Exam One essay that you can re write it as many times you want I did not re write my essay so that why I got a C in this pop culture class but it at least a "satisfactory grade" and I dislike english class so I'm good with this grade for english. .

A helpful professor. Although English is my second language, I did great with Prof. Shimkin. I loved his comments about his own life and reviews of books that he has read.

Professor Shimkin is such a great professor. He is very knowledgable of the readings and you feel like you actually learn something. The class discussions were great. They were very insightful and hilarious. He doesn't give any tests, just papers. He gives you the grade you deserve. Take him!

I improved my writing. He is the best professor I ever had. With him, I was never scared to write. In my other English classes I was always scared and I was always trying to make my papers up to 5 pages like most professors expect. Shimkin is about quality not quantity! And that's what makes him good. He is so helpful. He is calm and lovely.

He's super cute, he's a little old guy I find his class to be so relaxing, he is pretty mono toned so make sure you bring your coffee. Besides that he assigns papers and allows you to revise them as many times as you need in order to make you grade better. You read short stories and watch movies related to them. He only gives one open book final.

Professor Shimkin was one of the best teachers I've ever had in my life. Though there were people in the class that did not enjoy it, i found, from speaking to them that most of them just just didnt like taking English in the first place and it had nothing to do with the Professor. He was great and i would to take another class with him.

Cute, old man. Took Eng 101. We do 2 things in his class & that's it. 1 read essays & talk about them in class 2. write 3 essays throughout semester. No homework, very easy. He's laid back and flexible, allows you to revise your essays as many times as you want. I definitely recommend him for Eng 101 if you want a light amount of work. Got an A!

Professor Shimkin is very nice , and flexible. In his class I learned not to be afraid of writing, if you need help he is more than happy to explain what you don't understand ... I definitely recommend his class . He is the best English professor at QCC...!!!!

This professor really cares about his students. He gives tons of opportunities to redeem your grades. I enjoyed his class and the assigned readings. He doesn't overwhelms you with work. Great instructor I must say!

He's a kind old man that gives you feedback on every essay you turn in and gives you a chance to raise your grade. He doesn't give a lot of homework. Make sure to add a lot of details in your essays to get a good grade! The lecture can get pretty long and boring and he talks quietly sometimes so make sure you're well rested or bring coffee.

Prof. Shimkin is an easy going, intelligent instructor. His class is laid back consisting of mainly group discussions. He gave two papers and you have the entire semester to revise as much as you like, and a final (that's it). Do the readings each week in order to discuss in class, that is the only homework. Take him for english.

Amazing professor!! He talks a lot, has a neat sense of humor, very insightful. He lets you rewrite your essay as much as you like and each time you do your grade bumps up a little. Hes understanding, ver helpful. I can truly say I enjoyed English 102 because of him!

I enjoyed his class. He tends to go off on tangents but is overall a kind man who appears to have a good heart. He gives you many opportunities to boost your grade and he always gave me good grades. Just do the required work and you should be good.

Prof. Shimkin he has helped me a lot during class times. But with COVID-19 it's been very difficult to keep up with class. But overall he's an amazing professor,he loves to engage with his students and doesn't enjoy when you sit and watch him. He a tough grader but also a practical grader. BTW he can't hear in one of his ears so be generous.

Professor David shimkin Gives alot of work he is nice and will help you outside of the class you have to do 3 draft psychological , and marxist, feminist, there are journal entries every week that have to be complete. i really enjoy i learned from the class.

He is a very sweet professor. He talks the entire lecture and gives a decent amount of work but he lets you make up work no matter how late it is. He is only a tough grader if you dont put effort into your writing. Consistent assignments every week and very straight forward. Do the work, put in effort, sit through the lectures and youll pass!
