All lecture, three exams. No attendance policy.
Pretty simple, come to class, take notes and you will do fine. He can be boring, but he is very knowledgable in the subject and is pretty easy as well. I would recommend him.
I really like Dr. Shock ! He is very good ! don't miss his lectures and you will do great in the class!!!
GO TO CLASS and take notes and you will get an A. I STRONGLY reccommend you go to his evening study sessions the night before the exam... he pretty much goes over teh study guide and tells you everything. Sometimes boring but sit up front and take notes!
This guy is awesome. Not the easiest ever but not hard either. He knows his stuff and does a great job at conveying it to students. His out of class accessability is top rate as well so you know you can always speak to him. He will help you whenver possible. You need the textbooks and if you attend class 80+% you will do fine.
Dr. Shock is just an intelligent well rounded professor who actually wants to see his students succeed. I strongly advise taking any of his courses.
Dr. Shock may be a bit boring, but he is a wonderful teacher! I knew nothing of politics or political science be4 taking this class, but now I have such an understanding of the material! Take this professor, and bring a tape recorder to class..it really helps!
Good proff. Easy. Boring but easy. All I gotta say. I took this class with Ralph Durahm and got a D. Im taking this class with shock and i still dislike the class as much but i have a B. Now you go figure! I would recommend him. No attendance policy. However, there is a policy paper.
he is great prof. he makes me smile everyday. he is very passionate about what he teaches and his lectures are clearly outlined. very in-depth on the material but you learn a great deal about public admin. tests are written but if you know the material you will do fine.
Dr. Shock is a good professor. He is well prepared (outlines, etc) and is eager to answer questions. He is soft-spoken and monotone, but there is group work to off-set that. I would recommend him.
Very knowledgable about the subject matter and very good at teaching it. You learn a lot with ease. May seem a little boring but can be funny. Always willing to answer questions, both relevent and extraneous. Attendance policy in upper level classes but not lower level. Definitely recommend.
He is one of the nicest professors and knows local government in Georgia very well, especially considering he is not even originally from the state. There is one term paper that is not terribly difficult and three tests with do-able essay questions. Highly recommended.
He is so cute...MrRogers style. Study guides and notes online. Do not even do the notes outline just print the study guide and write in answers as he lectures about the chapter outlines. Test is exactly the study guide. Fairly easy.
He's so quirky and cute! He's very thorough in his lectures and he goes semi-fast (although that could be because I had him over the summer). He gives tests directly from the text and notes (study and read). Good professor who knows what he's talking about.
Excellent Prof. Very knoweledgable about the material. He covers a lot in class, and the tests are somewhat tricky, but as long as you go to class, study for the test, you should receive at least a B. Willing to answer any questions, and VERY nice. There is one policy paper, but he is lenient on the grading. Would definetly recccomend this Professo
This teacher is soooo cute! He is just like Mr. Rogers...very knowledgeable about everything her teaches and excited about what her talks about. He has 3 tests and a long research paper, which he gives the entire semester to work on. his tests are very easy if you study and take great notes!
Excellent instruction!
He is very shy but knowledgeable. We all love him
Cute, kindly, professional, smart
very kind
Even though sometimes you are soooooooooooooo cute, you are a knowledgable and professional professor indeed. Your lectures of the intergovernmental relationship are quite helpful and useful for us to understand better and learn more. You are always kind and nice to us Chinese students. Therefore, hereby i must say we all love you forever~~~~~~~~~
He is shy but knowledgeable. He cares about us and is always prepared for questions.
Very sweet, and knowledgeable! He covers and answers all material very well. I enjoyed his class, and would recommend taking his class for sure!
very nice and knowledgeable but shy. he rambles on about nonsense and gets off topic alot. unclear what he wants on the test says a lot of stuff in class that is never on the test. you have to read the book!
He's a really sweet guy and is willing to help at all times. Going to class is very important because the test comes straight from lecture. There is no homework or classwork. There are only 3 tests, so definitely come to class. The tests are easy as long as you have gone to lecture. Easy B, and an easy A if you work a bit harder.
This man is the government KING!! It's very cool that he prints detailed outlines for his lectures so you can just download it on the computer and type next to whatever he's talking about. Slow but painless workload. Just make sure you study a lot before tests.
So goofy!Class is boring but easy. No hw or classwork. 3 tests and one policy paper. Listen to the lecture and/or read the notes and you'll do fine on the tests. Take him (an A or a B)
He is goofy! Funny too... Well kind of boring and mono-tone but definately knows Political Science! Three tests and a policy paper all worth 25% of your grade. Don't wait til last minute on the policy paper! There is no homework or quizzes. Just print the notes on GA View Study them and you'll do great! The book can be helpful too!
Very monotone, very boring. I did not find him to be an effective teacher. It wasvery hard to come to class when I knew it would be as excruciating as it always was. No homework, but he has very high expectations. I would NEVER take this teacher again.
great professor. Knows his stuff. study the PPts. and you will make an A. If not your toast. Dr.shook knows everything there is about Politics. Took this summer. 3 test 1 paper. Instructor doesn't try to trick you. Test were 50 multiple choice. Highly reccommend
By far the best instructor in the Public Administration graduate program. Unlike others he is actually interested in showing up to PROFESS and he is meticulous in his lecture notes. The program needs more professors like Dr. Shock.
He is a great guy, but lets face it. political science is boring and he tries hard to make it fun! He is a good teacher, take him, get the A, get out :)
Didn't use a book. Lectured from powerpoints which were kind of boring. Only five grades in the class; 3 exams, a small assignment at the beginning of the semester, and a paper at the end. Everything you need to know is on the powerpoints and his exams are based on the lectures he gives off the powerpoints.
Excellent instructor!! He gives review sheets for every test and all the material is on the test. He knows his material and easy to understand
Very nice. No text book! Easy to follow power points. Gives you a study guide, if you study it and take good notes you'll be golden
He is very clear lecturer. All of the lectures are on PowerPoints, and he gives a study guide for each test. As long as you study what is on the study guide, you should be in good shape. He encourages class discussion/participation.
Dr. Shock is wonderful. He is very gentle and shy, but he is a wealth of info - especially re/ local and state politics. His classes are very straight forward and not difficult. You can do the minimum to get a decent grade and get out, but it's really a great opportunity to learn a lot if you choose to invest a little more time and effort.
Dr. Shock is such a nice, sweet guy. He is very intelligent and involved with local politics. Class consisted of going over powerpoints (which were also posted on D2L) and each exam had a study guide. Show up, review, get an A. He was very enjoyable as a professor though the subject is boring.
Dr. Shock is extremely knowledgeable about the subjects for this class. Course materials were not always interesting and the lectures were mostly just white and black PowerPoints, so it was difficult to pay attention at times. Overall, The materials covered in the course seemed appropriate for the class description. Work hard and get an A.
I love Professor Shock. He's very intelligent and fluid during lectures. A little nerdy, but its kinda cute bc he's enthusiastic about politics. I learned a lot about local politics & the 3 different levels I never knew b4. 4 exams& 3 policy papers your grade & his tests are based off study guide & lecture notes. He is open to help you.
Can't stress enough how boring his class was! He just reads from the powerpoint slides. You can miss three classes without penalty. Prof. Shock was a nice person and he is knowledgable in the subject he teaches. There was no book and the tests all came with study guides. There are 3 policy cases which are easy!
Good Teacher, The lectures are a little bit boring, but he explains the material well. He gives study guides for each test, and if you look at the study guide you will get an A on the test. There are 4 test (One of them is the final it isn't cumulative) and 3 papers. HE grades the papers really easy so the class should be an easy A.
Dr. Shock is quiet and straightforward, and so is his course. It's not much work, but what work you do have is simple and workable. 3 Tests, 5 small mini-reports, and 1 paper of 5-10 pages. EASY, BUT THOROUGH! Go to class, fill out your review sheets there, and it'll be an easy A.
Easy class! Lectures are a bit boring but he's so adorably awkward. Tests basically come from powerpoints which he posts online. Wouldn't need to go to class if he didn't have an attendance policy. 4 tests, and 3 policy papers (which are short and easy). Final is not cumulative.
He is great professor. He is pretty monotone and can get boring. Only allowed to miss 3 classes and you wish you could miss more because every class is lectures. 4 tests and 3 policy papers that are super easy. Gives study guides for every test, take him and get out with an A.
He is very nerdy and loves what he teaches. He is extremely organized. Study his powerpoints and you will do well on exams. There are also 3 papers, one page long - easy A grades. His class didn't require a ton of effort, but the effort you put in decides your grade. Lectures could be a little dry, but the material was interesting. No textbook!!
His lectures are very long and boring. He reads off the power points too. However his class is very easy. He provides study guides and his tests are the power points and study guides. I had him for the summer class and we did not have a book. He has 3 policy cases and he grades fairly easy. I would take him again and would recommend taking.
You have one long paper to do that is a pain and 4 tests that are very picky. I am an A student and I only got a B with a lot of hard work. Take someone else. He is not an easy teacher any more. His tests are extremely mhard and challenging
Super nice guy but his class is really boring. He has a really monotone voice, I had him for an 8 am so it sucked. But the class itself isn't hard. Three tests including a final, he tells you what to know which is all info straight from the notes he already has posted, don't even have to take notes. 5 2-3 page papers, pretty easy. Boring but easy!
Dr. Shock is a total sweetheart little nerd. His lectures are longgggggg and I took his class at 8 a.m. He gives outlines that you need to fill in as you go, so going to class is important. It's not the most exciting class, but he's always willing to help out. MAKE SURE you go to class the day before the exam! He'll tell you the short answer ?'s!
Monotone lectures make for lack of interest. Powerpoints is all you have to study from.
Very nice guy. Can get a little monotone but he obviously loves teaching. Assigns 5 short papers on the reading, a final paper, and has three exams total. Pretty easy grader. Go to the review before the exam because he will give you the short essay questions. Takes attendance.
He's like the cutest nerd. He is EXTREMELY monotone but the course isn't tough. easy grade. I took both his State & Local government and Public Admin courses. Aced both courses. Just keep up with the due dates. All his lectures are online but I would take notes
Gave 4 exams all with study guides, 3 papers that are graded exactly like the rubric says. Discussion board posts are graded easily as well. Gives clear information and sends out reminders to class often. Gets back to emails quickly
Online class was well organized. Grading and Rubics easy to follow. Gives clear feedback, great PPT slides. 4 exams, 3 short papers, 5 discussion boards. I would take again.
Well organized class. Professor was constantly encouraging and extending help to students. Not alot of reading. Interesting and easy to follow lessons. I would love to take him again.
Prof. Shock was a great! He loves what he teaches. A bit monotone but he provides PowerPoint along with his lectures which are very useful when reviewing for the exam. He also has a clear grading style and provides study guides for exams!
He loves what he teaches! Lectures are a little long and boring, but seeing how passionate he is makes up for it. There's four tests, three discussion posts and a group project! Study for the tests off his powerpoint's and you'll make an A!
Lectures are very important, make sure you attend all of them. There was no weekly homework, just a discussion board every once in a while which he grades very generously. GROUP PROJECT: these are always a hit or miss and really depend on your team. We worked on this project all semester and it will account for 50% of your final grade.
Professor Shock's test were difficult. He gives study guides, but the tests contain questions based off of his lectures in class and that information isn't on the study guide. Not many grades, only 3 discussion posts, 4 tests and 1 project worth 50 points. If you fail one of the tests its hard to pull your grade up. Take someone else.
One group project, some discussions, and your tests (done online, open note). The group project is easy, although might be a little annoying if you get a bad group. Easy A if you put in a little effort.
The class is mostly lectures and there are only a few tests that aren't super hard. He presents the course material very well, it can just get a bit boring cause because it is politics after all.
Great prof. to take for online POLS1101 if you like a very hands-off approach. There are no lectures, you have little interaction with him. The entire class is reading PowerPoints, 3 discussions and 4 tests. Tests are average difficulty, no lockdown and if you use study guides you'll be fine. Easy A, but I personally like a bit more interaction.
He is a really lad back teacher . We only had 4 test and 4 discussion post the whole semester basically like two assignments a month and 1 in November then the final in December which is included in the 4 test . All the answers to the test are in his PowerPoints . He also does review sessions before the test .
I had POLS 1101 online because of COVID. Tests mostly come straight from lecture, which is given far in advance. Tests are open book. Easy A.
do yourself a favor and take him
I took this class while it was 100% online. There was no lecture. He uploads pdf slides and a study guide for each Exam. The guides were very helpful and I feel they prepared me for the Tests. Overall, not much to complain about.
Easiest A I have received
Entire grade is made up of 4 exams and 4 discussion boards (with response comments). Lectures being interesting are hit or miss but he consistently got through either an entire ppt or half of one every class. Does seem to get a little depressed when students don't ask questions, he seems to be genuinely passionate about the subject.
I love Dr. Shock. He's passionate about government and explains things very well. Midway through the semester, a lot of people start skipping and I feel bad for the guy.
I'm an engineering student and classes like these are a real pain if the professor makes it tedious. But Prof. Shock was amazing. Really easy class. I didn't attend much of the lectures but did the study guide before taking the test (D2L). The test is very similar to the studyguide. Discussion posts are really easy as well. Makes the class easy.
Great dude, I feel bad for skipping every single lecture. Tests were open note open book and there were four discussions total for the semester.
He is a very good professor. I would've gotten a better grade but in one of my tests I forgot about so I ran out of time and he gave me that flat grade. Other than that his tests are super easy and open note. They are all online and he is a laid back man. Negative side is that there are only 8 assignments the whole semester
Dr. Shock is a good professor. His class is straightforward, you go to class for the lectures, have 4 discussion posts (mini-essays), and take four open-note tests. Attending class is optional, and the lecture slides are posted on D2L. A good pick if you need to take American Government as a required credit - easy A.
Very sweet person and gives good lectures. If you study the power points posted online before one of the tests you will do great. My grade was based off of 4 tests and 4 discussion posts, very manageable class
POLS 1101 was a pretty easy class. Everything he does in class is posted online so going to class doesn't really matter. His lectures are pretty much him just saying the slides to you. In the class there are only 4 tests and 4 discussion posts to be graded for the whole semester. All you need to do to pass the class is to do his study guides.
Explains content very well. All tests are online and open note. Powerpoints are available on d2l if you are unable to make it to class.
Interesting and nice
Very good teacher as long as you stay on top of your discussion board post and replies the class is fairly easy with the content coming from the power points and videos he post online.
He is very lecture heavy in this class and goes a bit fast too fast. However, he does give all of the PowerPoints at the start of the semester. Simple grading with only 4 discussion boards and 4 exams, no final. You'll learn a lot in this class.
Very easy class. Attendance was not mandatory and the discussion boards were very simple. The tests were a little challenging but not impossible, you just need to read the PowerPoints he posts.
He only grades on disscussion boards and tests, no weekly homework and attendance wasn't mandatory. All the anwsers for the tests (which is online) were on the powerpoints. Not a super hard class but I recieved a C because I had a hard time with the tests (I don't perform well on multiple choiced questions).
I loved Professor Shock! You can tell he is passionate about politics, I felt bad when no one would show up for class. All tests are open book so it would be really hard not to do well :)
Prof. Shock's POLS1101 class was great and not difficult, yet actually taught me some interesting things. 4 exams (non-cumulative, online, no Lockdown), 4 discussions. Slides posted online. Attendance not required, but his lectures are chill and worth attending. He covers some local politics, which was a nice change from usual PolSci stuff.
great professor, 4 tests that are open note and only 3 (easy) discussions. Take this professor if you can!
This professor is truly exceptional. He goes over a wide array of subjects, but he makes it easy to understand. He is also very flexible and willing to collaborate. In terms of class format, the first half goes into the chapters (via PowerPoint) and the second half goes over our discussion boards (that we must answer by class time).
I loved this class!! Super easy and you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. 4 online tests (no lockdown) and 4 discussion posts. I found his lectures really entertaining. overall chill class to fulfill a gen ed requirement.
This class was very easy. The grades consisted of 4 online multiple choice exams (no lockdown browser) and 4 discussion boards. While attendance was mandatory, the lectures were definitely worth attending. If you study the power points and the study guide, you will have success in this class. He is a great professor and I would take him again.
He does 4 discussion posts and 4 tests all semester. Even if you take the in-person class, your tests are online and not a lockdown browser. He cares about his subject so his lectures can be entertaining, but you don't need to take notes. He posts the slides. You get points off for missing class, so keep that in mind.
Only got 4 discussion post with a rubric. Also he is a bit funny as well. His class is easy and he explains the material peace by peace
I love this professor, and which he was teaching more classes! Everything is open, so you can work ahead. There is a lot of reading but they help on exams and discussion posts. If you like writing, take this class. Definitely a refresher of American history/government classes, but it's required.
Take Shock, 4 exams, 4 discussion posts. Exams are open (not lockdown browser or anything), and PowerPoints have all the answers. Lectures are very informative, if you pay attention the exams are very easy, although you don't have to. Really easy A.
amazing amazing amazing! easiest A of your life 4 discussion posts and 4 exams no webcam if you can pleaseeee take him lectures can be boring but he's low-key funny takes points for attendance though you get 3 unexcused just reach out to him for anything he is very considerate!
His class is an easy 100 if you just do the work. Attendance is required, and he docks points after the first three missed classes. You are graded on 4 discussion posts and 4 tests. He is a very kind guy, just don't take advantage of that. TAKE HIM!
4 disc, and 4 tests, no lockdown or webcam, can't miss more than 3 classes without lowering your grade. overall amazing, very easy A. Sometimes test answers were hard to find online, so use chat gpt for those questions. If you do end up having to miss class, he's very understanding, so email him and he'll most likely excuse it.
The class consists of 3 easy discussion posts and 4 tests based on the powerpoints. Tests are super easy with a long time limit.
POLS 3312 Concepts in State and Local Government. Got an A in the class. Tests were open book/note, received B's on all four. Discussion posts were the decider in me getting an A due to there being one every week and those added up quick. The Career Planning assignment was an easy A, just follow the instructions and put some effort into it.
