The course is absolutely amazing. The instructor, Mr. Simpson is a very good professor as he combines text with real psychological cases, videos, jokes and weird jokes (my absolute favourite). The pace of the lecture is absolutely perfect and Mr. Simpson makes sure that the class doesn't lose momentum, which is quite the feat at 9 in the morning.
David is a top G. Took this class as an elective and I'm happy I did, homie teaches really well and sets clear grading criteria. My only gripe is the necessity of buying the textbook, but other than that David is an excellent instructor and if ya have the chance to take one of his classes then you should. Aside: It's his first time teaching.
Very clear and well written lectures. Resources are extremely helpful and provide perfect study guides.
Really good prof, super funny guy, great at explaining material.
Super engaging class and tests display what is learned in class, not questions that catch you off guard if you know the material. He is funny and relates to the class a lot. Lots of interesting videos and would highly recommend!
Very funny, He does his best to make the class interesting and inserts many jokes between topics. Shows a lot of videos. PLUS POINT: uploads his lectures on youtube. Make sure you watch his lectures (or attend them), and reference from the given slides/ maybe the book. You'll score 90% above
A great professor, always has entertaining lectures to attend and many videos to help understand topics. He also uploads all of his lectures to YouTube so it is easy to catch up if you miss a class.
Honestly, taking one of his classes should be mandatory. The best part is that he is so entertaining that I am able to watch hours of lectures in one sitting without wanting to shoot myself! He also explains things in the same way you would to a four-year-old, so anyone can learn the material. 10/10 would recommend. I love my homie David.
He is a great Prof. His lectures are interesting and great to listen to. He also records all of them. I could literally watch them all in one sitting. His tests are multiple choice with one written question in which HE TELLS YOU EXACTLY WHAT IT IS AND WHAT ITS ON. Guaranteed 100 on that question. Overall great prof. Highly recommend this class.
Come to class and listen to him tell the most funny jokes and you'll basically get a good mark. He is not a official prof but in the process of becoming one -- he follows the text book and gives you a list of key terms. If you memorize the key terms its almost guarantee A or A+. Very easy going guy and he always put the content in simple terms!
I took this class as an elective and it was a huge GPA boost. His lectures are hilarious and he engages with the class very well so they go by quickly and he uploads all his lectures on YouTube. The exams are multiple-choice and very straightforward, and they have a small written response but he tells you exactly what he wants on it.
David "The Goat" Simpson Records his lectures, tells you what's going to be on the tests, amazing lecturer, textbook not mandatory, can't get much better than this.
David is an amazing professor, with very straightforward lectures and equally as straightforward tests. He provides multiple examples/analogies/drawings to strengthen concepts, and multiple resources (recorded lectures, slides, textbook) to reinforce your learning. Taking his next class for Psych 105 :)!
great prof, kind of funny.
David is honestly amazing. Lectures were clear and funny, expectations of what the tests contain are also very clear. Tests are a lot of memory based terms, and if you know the terms, it'll be easy enough to do well.
he was funny, smart and great energy.
Mr. Simpson is an excellent instructor and his lectures are both hilarious and engaging! Would highly recomend taking him if your a psychology major or even taking this class as an elective! He literally tells you what the written question will be for the test and has excellent notes to further your understanding of course concepts!
Funny guy, great lectures
Amazing Proff, has great lectures and the tests aren't hard if you study his notes thoroughly.
Great prof! He makes it very easy to understand concepts and he provides recorded lectures on YouTube posted within the same day of class.
Honestly, had I studied more, I could have easily gotten a 4.0. I barely studied and I did well in this class. The material is very easy to digest, his lectures are easy to pay attention to. The APA assignment is the only thing I would urge someone taking his course to leave themselves plenty of time to work on specifically.
tests were extremely relatable to the material and I really enjoyed the lectures. Best prof I had in first semester uni
My fave prof so far, really engaging lectures (posted on YouTube), lots of vids and demonstrations too. Tests are easy if you study (MC, with a written question that he explains to you before the test). I didn't even open the textbook, just payed attention during lectures, annotated the study notes, and studied key terms - worked out for me :)
Mr. Simpson does a great job of clearly explaining the topics covered in this course, and his lectures were also very entertaining. He provides ample details of what to expect on the written portion of the tests, and provides an easy template for the assignments. I never used the textbook, so I'd say skip it and just take notes in class instead.
the goat
Amazing prof. Made his lectures fun with stories and always eager to answer questions. Records his full lectures and really quick to respond to for emails. He uses the textbook but it's not required. The goat.
Best prof no cap
The only class I can actually pay attention in, his lectures are so engaging! Tests are really easy too; if you actually study you are probably guaranteed an A in this class.
Favorite prof of the year! Great lectures, doesn't use slides, uses whiteboard, covers each topic in textbook/key terms list (which is everything you need to know), shows videos to further demonstrate topics. I love that he doesn't read off slides and engages with the class. He's hilarious and for his first time teaching psych 105 he's killing it.
Took this in Fall 2023. The way he structured this course was awesome. He recorded his lectures, was very thorough in prepping us for tests, and gave us the key terms to focus on which was all you needed to know. Highly recommend he's a great guy.
Mr. Simpson was a fantastic prof! I took him for Psych 104 in the Fall and Psych 105 in the winter! Is very funny and tells a lot of jokes. Tests are pretty reasonable and is very humbling. Always reminds us that we aren't special.
David is hilarious and a great prof. He records all his lectures, is very clear what the written response will be on the tests, and tells you exactly what to focus on to succeed. Furthermore, he is actually an engaging prof, who values his students and their learning experience.
He is Him. I never thought intro psych could be so interesting. Is humorous, explains concepts well, is engaging in lecture Doesn't use slides so it keeps you engaged (i was skeptical too dw) If you memorize every point from his lectures you're guaranteed a good mark. He recommends reading the textbook but everything is covered in the lec.
David is fun and engaging! He teaches on the whiteboard without any slides, which I was not used to. However, that forced me to engage. He gives great examples for each term and makes it easy to understand. He also posts his lectures on YouTube.
Best prof I've ever had. He explains the concepts in a simple yet in-depth manner, unlike other profs that take every opportunity to prove how smart they are by overcomplicating things. He actually engages with his students and wants them to succeed. The weight of test are very reasonable which allows students to recover if they do bad on one.
There is a textbook listed as required for this course, but as long as you pay attention and take good notes in class then you shouldn't need it to do well on the exams. The exams are super easy, and the assignment follows a simple template. Mr. Simpson makes this course very easy to do well in, and all the lectures are recorded as well.
David's goated. Great guy, great prof. Class is so well explained. Posts his lectures on youtube, tests have humorous answers that will make you laugh sometimes. Super sad he isn't teaching 104 at the moment. Extremely interesting info and easy to study for. If you get the chance, take his class. Not a snob either, super cool dude.
His teaching style is like no other. No tricks on the tests, and tells you a general outline in how to prepare for the written . He makes lectures really enjoyable, is fast at responding to emails, and posts all the lectures online. Gives you a list of key terms at the beginning of the semester, and as long as you know those, you are golden.
He only has 5 star reviews. That should speak for itself, but I loved Mr.Simpson as a prof. He gives interesting lectures and does not overcomplicate simple definitions, which I LOVE! He is also super funny. If you can get into his class, STAY IN IT!
He made learning the content very interesting and fun and gave us lots of ways to remember things! Also linked a lot of what we learned to stuff that we can make sense of rather then just the concept. Definitely will take again in 105
Easy if you want an A and need extra attention/learning. I usually ended up pretty bored at the level we were taught. You can mostly teach yourself though.
I never know what to pay attention to...its a lot at once and not for me.
low rates below are bs. He is the best prof i had ever seen, gives clear instructions and questions for the tests. You really have to just understand, which he makes it extremely easy/ expand concepts to real examples. I am sitting in mid 90s with studying couple hours per test. Not because its easy but because of his efficient teaching.
Taking this class was frustrating because the professor refuses to use slides. It felt like I was constantly struggling to keep up with the lecture, and I had no visual aids to help me understand the material. I found it hard to know what was important or where to focus. It made studying for exams much more difficult.
Pretty average. I like that he didn't stray what we're supposed to know, but not great for actually learning about psychology.
He's a great prof, that's it.
Nice guy but so confusing!
my ADHD could never :(
I genuinely can't figure out where the bad ratings are coming from, this guy is amazing. Probably the best prof I've ever had. He's so funny and makes the course content so easy to understand and so digestible. Literally love him so much. All the complaints are coming from students' own academic shortfalls, not his. Deserves 5/5 for sure.
take for an easy A, no work involved
Overly complicates things, no notes given, but the recordings are nice.
Dr. Simpson is a good prof yea his style isnt for everyone but I think it works okay for me could be better but again not bad i think he needs more time but yea
Prof Simpson is awesome! His lecture style may be different for some (doesn't use slides), but he posts slides, key terms, even recorded lectures on his eclass. Very engaging lectures and content is easy to grasp with his explanations and examples. If you attend class, use the posted notes as well as his lectures, you don't need the textbook.
Well liked obvi, but over complicates everything and its sooooo hard to pay attention
Yes. No slides. But he only teaches what he tests. Easy A, its like straight from lecture.
Dr. Simpson is an absolute legend. Lectures are easy to follow because there are no slides and there are lots of resources (pre-recorded lectures, key terms list, ppt notes of lectures) so you can be sure to not worry if you miss a class. As well, it's always clear of what to expect on tests and the tests don't have tricky questions.
The class is confusing and taught to nobody.
Really clear lectures, with the exams highly reflective of the material that is taught. The things that are tested are clearly stated and the tests are basically straight memorization, really easy. Very cool professor
Honestly such a great experience! He's super funny and goes over all content very clearly, the exams are exactly what he says in lectures.
This prof is incredible. He presents the information well during lectures and makes the concepts easy to understand. All lectures are recorded and posted online, so there is no pressure if you can't make it to a class. He's quick on email and tells you exactly what you need to know for exams. Just take this prof if you want an easy A.
accommodations beware
David is the best prof I've had so far, even if you don't go to class you'll be good to go because he has recorded lectures that are essentially the same thing covered in class. He says that you should use the textbook to support your learning but you'll be fine without it because he only tests on things that were covered in class.
Prof Simpson is a hilarious and entertaining educator. His classes are easy to study for and catch up on with lecture slides and key terms being easily accessible and given at the beginning of the course. Course can easily be completed without a textbook but is mainly test heavy with only one assignment and 4 tests including the final.
His lectures were always engaging as he also shows video clips during class rather than only just talking, I never found myself bored. He is very funny and tries to make every class fun. All his lectures are posted online. Textbook not mandatory, he only tests what was talked about in class, and tests are very easy.
🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷🤷
David Simpson is the greatest proffesor/teacher I've ever had. He made psych 105 so interesting and exciting by using relatble and funny examples. If you go to the lectures and study the key terms there should be 0 problem achieving a great grade in the class. The textbook is not required, I did great without it.
best psych prof ever, too bad he's leaving tho. Literally most down to earth chill dude. Tests are insanely easy the one assignment we had also took about 20 min to do and was super easy. Great prof definitely a loss to the u of a
Great guy. Makes the lectures interesting and easy to follow. Always made the class laugh. It's a shame he's moving.
His lectures were fairly heavy yet quite informative and interesting. He was very knowledgeable and I found his lectures became my favourite to attend. Overall a very nice guy!
hes honestly one of he best, and even if you missed a lecture, everything is posted online and his real life lecture and online lectures are identical. the way he formatted his slides and key terms were really helpful and as long as you knew everything from the key terms, you're guaranteed an A. sad that he left
Best intro psych prof ever! Made classes engaging, fun to attend, and we had clear expectations for tests. He doesn't use slides which is great because it's easy to follow the lecture, but I did notice he used the board less near the end of the sem. which I wish he didn't do. Nonetheless, there was plenty of resources (key terms list, videos, etc)
Very cool guy, his lectures are very interesting and entertaining.
Simpson understands a lot of students take psych for an easy elective. An A is possible solely through memorization and doing the assignments. His lectures are great, he's great at answering questions, and the touch of humor is nice.
David was very lecture heavy, and did not provide slides during his lectures but he posts all his lectures on youtube, and they are word for word exactly the same as his in person lectures. He is very respected, as people still choose to attend even though he provides all the resources to not attend. Content is pretty straightforward.
I really wonder. This class was weird. I do not recommend.
Professor Simpson is such an incredible professor. He teaches without slides, which may be bad for some, but I found it a-okay because he is so detailled and engaging. He was my favourite prof and I have so much respect for him. He's funny, gives good examples and is clear. The students in BC are lucky to have such a great professor.
Great prof. His lectures were engaging and I was sure to receive a 4.0 if I didn't become lazy. It is very easy to do well in his class. He is a fun guy who is passionate about the subject too.
Hilarious prof. His exams were relatively easy because he gave out key terms that made studying stress-free. Attend the lectures, especially review days, because he gives hints for the tests.
Best prof I've had so far! Even though the class was 100% him lecturing at us, it was never boring and the way he explained the concepts was beautifully straightforward. Every test was very clear, the questions corresponded directly to what we learned in class, and we were even told what the short answer question would be in advance.
Great professor, just go to the lectures and you will do well. He even posts them online and they're the exact same as his lectures in person.
Dr. Simpson was great, all his lectures are engaging and are on youtube if you miss any. The exams are very fair and test content was purely based on the concepts discussed in the lectures. He also would promptly respond to any and all questions in the eclass forum. Would recommend.
He's a very nice guy who tries his best to keep lectures interesting. He provided us with a list of the key terms, and if you understood them and could connect them to other related topics you can easily pass his tests. We had lots of good laughs during his lectures but still covered lots of material. I'm sad he's no longer teaching at U of A
Very easy to follow along, makes a lot of connections to real-life examples. Posts both slides and key terms that are on the exams and quizzes that you can access and study outside of class. I didn't buy the textbook and did pretty well in the class, and although I went to every class I most definitely did not need too. Great professor.
I loved Dr. Simpson's class; he's really funny, well organized, and the list of key terms he provided at the start of the semester was a lifesaver. Also, this may sound like an odd thing to note, but he speaks at a perfect pace. Overall, really good prof, sad he's leaving the U of A. 10/10 would recommend his class.
This course was a piece of cake, not only because it is a 100-level, but the teacher clearly outlined the expectations and informed us what would be on the test. He was extremely easygoing and would answer any relevant questions. I would definitely take another class with him!
Over complicates things and uses no notes
He is the most awesome professor ever, super easy going, and makes the class so interesting and exciting, even though attendance is not compulsory, you still would want to go to his class because he's that good. he is funny and teaches well, he is the best psych prof out there! no competition fr
genuinely enjoyed going to his lectures
best psych prof ever.
He was overall a good prof. Exams are straightforward and he gives hints on what will be on the exam (also tells you exactly what is on the written). He records all of his lectures and provides notes that reflect what will be on the exams. Overall good prof and his jokes were funny.
Literally best prof I've had yet, made learning SUPER easy by explaining everything simply and then building it up. Clear study guides always, for the 4 tests he gives. Questions are also very clear what they ask, not ambiguous. Lectures genuinely entertaining to attend. Textbook is recommended but I didn't read it and did very well.
Lots of stuff to memorize
He is an amazing prof!
Best prof i have ever had (so sad he left). Made learning very easy through explanations, had online lecture videos posted, and an online Q&A section where he answers any course questions quickly. Suggested using the textbook, but I never looked at it once and got A+. Also provides very accurate study guide.
