Dr. Slavsky is an extremely good teacher. He tries hard to make the material interesting and understandable. He always makes sure his lectures are clear, and is very fair in grading.
A very good class. Lots of interesting information and makes you THINK. Lectures are clear, but dont miss them if you want a good grade. Fair grader and will help if you need it. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Good professor, cares about his students and knows subject very well. Explains things well and keeps class moving at a good pace.
Hard but interesting. Classes are well taught and thought out with a good combination of lecture and lab and demonstrations.
Interesting course, especially the section on weather. Hope we can get that complete weather course sometime this year.
Pretty hard course but not terrible if you go to class and do the home work ontime. Lectures much better than book and he was alwasy around to help.
Good class, good review of previous material although I wish we did more at the end. Very clear lectures, prof always around to help, LOTS of homework but we usually got them back the next class period.
You get out of the class what you put into it. His tests and homework are extremely fair and he will ALWAYS help you understand the material if you visit him in his office. Mastering the material will make your future classes much easier.
The fact that half the students dropped the class after the exam is telling you something. Unfortunately, the class is pre-req for all upper division Physics classes.
Dr Slavsky is one of the most professional teachers I've ever come across. That being said, his tests are very crammed for time unless you know exactly what you are doing.
Dr. Slavsky is the most inspirational physics professor I have ever had the pleasure of studying under. Make no mistake, he is not an easy professor. I had an easier time in the class because I have a background in physics, yet I found myself relying on extra reading and doing homework problems two and three times over to do well in the class.
I don't think this class ended up being as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Although the course was challenging, I still enjoyed my experience in it. Slavsky is a remarkable professor with an amazing passion for teaching. My only complaint is that I didn't enjoy the graded group work exercises. You really have to apply yourself to get an A.
Dr. Slavsky is one of the best professors you will have for physics. He gives homework every week that will take you at least 5 hours to finish. Other than that come to class and pay attention. He cracks a few jokes here and there.
Dr. Slavsky is a great professor! However, he makes you work for the grade, found this class to be very difficult. You will need to rely heavily on the book or going to see him to succeed. The homework is very time consuming but usually represents what will be on the test. He is very helpful in office hours and cares about his students succeeding.
Dr. Slavsky is, in my opinion, the best professor at Loyola. He is fiercely caring for his students. He is very challenging when it comes to homework (I often spent 7 hours a week doing homework for the upper-level physics courses I took with him), but you learn so much and in such detail that it is completely worth it. His tests are very fair.
Tests are all conceptual without a calculator, so there is a bit of a learning curve, but they are not difficult if you read the assigned chapters in the book and do the homework. Dr. Slavsky wants to see his students succeed, so there is a curve on most exams and opportunity for extra credit on every exam. Lectures are clear and entertaining.
It's clear that Dr. Slavsky is passionate about physics and wants his students to succeed. With that said, his lectures are a little dry. (I often chose not to attend because I wasn't gaining anything from them.) Despite this, I walked out with a relatively easy A. There are extra credit q's on exams, and he weights your best scores more heavily.
Dr. Slavsky is a great person and professor; I highly recommend him for any class. I really struggled with physics but he helped me pass. The homework really let you reinforce the concepts he wanted you to learn and resembled the exam questions. Always available for questions.
A sweetheart. Wants his students to do well and is passionate. Review the homework, exam notes, and previous exams and you will do fine. HW tough but not impossible- go to office hours and you will be good. Do not cheat on the hw- he literally tells you not to. Do your best and put in the work he will appreciate it. Would reccomend
Wish I could give a 0 star
Absolute worst. Avoid
Avoid if possible
I am currently in this class this semester. His ratings have gone down astronomically since the beginning of the semester and I do not think that it's fair to him. He was very clear in the beginning of the semester that he makes the homeworks very difficult so that we can learn how to think like a physicist. (1/3)
It's hard but not impossible and he doesn't deserve the bad reviews. Speaking as a STEM student, I think the homeworks are insane, but college is supposed to be hard and the majors we are choosing are not supposed to be easy. This is what we signed up for; don't take your failing grade out on him because you got penalized for academic dishonesty.
Horrible teacher. He will fail you if you use khan academy. DONT EVER TAKE HIM. Do your self a favor and save your gpa and choose a different professor.
Never take him. He is terrible
Clearly does not care about his students if he outright fails half of his students without even talking to them first. If the majority of the students need to seek outside help on the homework clearly the professor needs to change his teaching style.
HE MAKES A STUDENTS LIFE HARDER.

PROFESSOR PROFESSOR PROFESSOR YOU DARE CHALLENGE ME!!!
YOU ARE A FOOL FOR CHALLENGING ME
Does not deserve to be a Professor
I see a therapist because of this Professor
So unfair. Avoid if you can!
RUN FROM THIS GUY!!!
He has no feelings
Worst
Absolute disgrace of a Professor
And then you started to act all anime on me? Oh no... I'm so scared. Wait a minute. I seen you before! You're that dude on twitter, you know.... the one where his hair goes over his eyes and he pretends to be an anime character. Damn it, I'll give it to you when I find it later
Did you even pass exam 2? Let me be honest with you, I completely threw stuff around on that exam. I didn't understand anything, and I went with the last cohesive thought I got. You want to know what I got on it?
Speaking of crying, why are you even on here? Maybe you should complain to the deans or something. Hahahahahahhaah just kidding, you are just like me, right? A guy who hides behind his screen because he can't face the real world. That's okay buddy, I understand you
Don't worry, my little cheater. Let me give you a little help on what we learned today in class since your little brain probably can't think. So momentum is mass times velocity. Power is work divided by time. You got it? I think you can be able to do some of the problems without relying on others
Man, with the amount I typed, I can possibly make the next best-seller book. So, my little cheater, what do you think I should write about? Here's my idea: A guy takes phys 111 and gets caught cheating. He was so embarrassed by it that he decided to review bomb his professor. How's that plot sound?
Or how about this: A guy ends up finding this book called the "death note", the book allows him to kill anyone he wants by simply writing their name in it. He would have the identity known as "kira". But with the increase in murder in Japan, a man that goes by the alias "L" will try and stop Kira. Wait, what do you mean that's already an anime?
Alright my little cheater, it has been fun talking to you. Please, keep the schizophrenic episodes on hold. Also you got morning classes or something? Because I was clearly sleeping when you decided to celebrate by yourself. A little weird but hey, some people got some loose screws, you know?
these reviews are so unserious.. i would say though that his tests are not that bad. he posts his previous exams, and sometimes, they reflect what will be on the exam. you do have to put effort into this class (just like every other class) he is accessible during his office hours
disgrace of a professor
this man disgusts me. I dont know how he is a professor
FIRE HIM LOYOLA
Does not care about his students
David Slavsky ruined my life
FIRE HIM
Worst professor ive ever had
FIRE HIM LOYOLA!!!! HE HAS OVER 200 poor reviews!!
He failed half of my class for using Khan Academy on HOMEWORK. Does not care that some students cannot afford Loyola let alone to re take this class. If half of the class was failed and is using outside sources hes clearly not a good professor!
FIRE THIS AWFUL PROFESSOR
FIRE HIM PLEASE! MAKE SURE HE NEVER CAN TEACH AGAIN
Doesn't explain anything. Fails you for going to outside internet sources for explanations. AVOID HIM!
Worst professor I have ever had
Awful
terrible man and of a professor his syllabus is contradictory failed the entire class
Your wasting your time and energy by taking this guy waste of time
He is terrible do not take him whats so ever
Don't take him deserves to be fired
this dude cant teach
dont take him. SAVE YOUR GPA
I personally didn't think he was that bad
TOUGHEST GRADER and UNREASONABLE
khanacadamey = academic dishonesty
don't be fooled by the 5 star reviews this dude is horrible
Hello my little cheater, I see you are still going strong with the negative review bomb. Are you enjoying your time? I know I am. By the way, is it even possible to have a normal conversation? I would love to have some tea with you
But I mean it's fine if you don't want to. After all, your life seems to be nothing more than spamming negative reviews in some professor's page. You must hold such a strong grudge against him for no reason. Or perhaps you do have a reason which is you getting caught cheating.
Don't worry your pretty little head. I'm just doing what I do best
Hey buddy, have you done problem 6 of the homework #9 yet? I am a bit puzzled by it. If we were given the mass, coefficient of friction, and height difference, then how would we be able to find the velocity? perhaps you know a few connections from your cheating ring who can help me?
Oh, I'm sorry my little cheater, I forgot we never formally introduced ourselves. Well, I believe you should introduce yourself first since you claim to be the king, god, or whatever you are nowadays. Come on now, no need to rush yourself
Ohh right. Sorry again, I forgot you only talk in these wild outbursts and will only talk when slavsky is involved. Shame. I would really love to have a nice facetime with you. Just two dudes talking about physics
So did you really run out of things to say? I noticed all you been doing is "Fire this man" and blah blah blah. The same excuse over and over again. Doesn't it get tiring when one person writes the same thing over and over again? Are you suffering from.. what's it called? writer's block or whatever. You need a break?
At this rate, Slavsky is gonna need a new ratemyprofressor page. This is page is nothing but two dudes talking. One is mad he got caught cheating and the other dude is me. Funny ain't it? We can like make this into a show with enough funding
Also my little cheater, you literally wrote almost 100+ negative reviews and you want him fired? Like I don't work for the loyola university, but you could just bring this up to the deans. What? You scared? Want me to hold your hand while you talk to whoever is in charge?
Plus I'll be honest with you. I don't think anyone is gonna get fooled by 200+ negative reviews that contains only 1 sentence. I mean if you actually took the time to write out each review then perhaps you have a chance.
Isn't today the day you choose classes, my little cheater? Have you chosen anyone yet? Better not slavsky again since you hold a dying grudge against him. Or perhaps you already dropped out of phys 111 because he caught you cheating. Be honest with me
Y'know, you really should think about that offer I gave you before. With both of our powers toghether, we would be an unstoppable duo. Or what are you? more than one person? an amalgamation? A chimera? a homunculus? Oh! I get it, you're like one of those advance AI
Rise! Rise! Rise! Rise! Where's your RAGE? Where's your ANGER? Have you seen that image? I find it to be quite funny. You know, I would give you memes if you tell me where you sit in the class. No? Alright, your choice.
Alright, my little cheater, don't waste your entire youth on this. You are only looking desperate with the more negative reviews you put. We might as well make this our part time job. See you tomorrow at the same time? Well I bet I will cause you love to ride Slavsky for some reason. Weirdo
At the end of the day, you are just like me fr
it is amusing u think that some of these pity reviews are from me, im not the only one writing them my reviews are more intrinsic and otherworldly and i see you want to team up is that a sign you are admitting defeat you puny human
No? Alright man. I am only saying it because you look quite pathetic. I mean thanks for the free info. All these hands making these reviews and let you are still struggling. I'm not saying I am better but... the score speaks for itself. :shrugs: But hey, my line is still free if you want to talk
Whatever is going on here is very entertaining 9/10
Avoid him if possible
Worst professor ever
Absolute disgrace of a professor.
Disgusting guy
He ruined my life
Awful experience
I dropped out of school after he failed me for using Khan academy for my homework that I didnt understand and put on my academic record that I was a cheater.
Worst teacher ever
RUN FROM DAVID!!! HE WILL RUIN YOU!!
Shame on Loyola for allowing someone like him to "teach"
FIRE HIM!!!!!
I have never had such an awful experience with a "teacher" than I did with this guy......
He proudly failed half of my class for using Khan Academy for HOMEWORK.
Fr, The homework is hard, but anything you need help on, Dr. Salvsky will help with in office hours and through email. The early submission comes in handy, and the time you put in for homework will save on time for tests, I personally put in a lot of time for homework, which means I never study for the tests, and got over an 100% on both exams.
Okay buddy. So let me get this straight. You didn't get punished but yet you're still here riding Slavsky? I mean I get it, it's 2022, we can't be too judgmental these days. Also, how exactly would you give me justice? Your little act of "justice" on slavsky isnt really working. Want me to help you out? I know a few connections(who aren't cheaters)
The fact that hes on here being petty with some kid from one his classes is BEYOND ME. Loyola please fire this "teacher"
Just fire him already......
By the way my little cheater, are you really trying so hard to gaslight yourself into believing that I am slavsky? Like I enjoy the flattery, but I am just a regular college student. In fact, you should take me out to dinner the next time you give me a compliment on that scale. Hahahaha just kidding. Alright man, I'll see you later.
Can not believe a catholic school hired someone like this guy
Do you get a notification every time you get a 1 star David?
Xbow 2.9 is one of the oldest, best, and most viable Xbow decks. The deck has a fast cycle and can be used after Electro Valley. The deck has a solid winrate and can win against everything if played correctly (the only exception is RG Cycle). It is said to be one of the highest skill cap decks in the game, but certainly a very friendly F2P deck.
A lot of bullshit reviews on this page from 1 person who got caught cheating. I dropped the class because no matter what I did, attending office hours, reading the book, getting tutored. I could never get above a 60% on the hw or the exams. He's smart, just unrealistic. Should say something that 1/2 the class couldn't do well if they didn't cheat.
Not sure what is going on with some of these reviews, but Slavsky is good. Recently there has been incidents with people cheating but you really don't need to cheat when he has office hours that guide you through the HW and more or less gives you the problem types that will be on the exam. Yes, the HW is tough but not impossible and it preps you
For anyone actually registering and wanting to know if they should take this professor, do it. The review bombing are not accurate reviews and they were all posted by someone who was failed due to academic dishonesty.
He wont help you outside of class and the homework takes hours. Try to get someone else for this class if you can.
Homework is impossible and he wont help outside of class. Avoid of you can.
He failed me because I got help from Khan Academy with his homework. I tried to go in and explain ect work something and he completely shut me down. It says a lot about him that half his class doesn't know how to do the homework and had to go to outside class resources. Moral of the story this guy has no feelings and no heart.
He failed me during the middle of the semester, because I turned to online sources for help for homework. His hw is extremely hard and does not resemble the problems he does in class with his notes. He's a nice person, but not a good professor. The fact that he failed half the students in his class for hw says a lot. I would avoid taking him.
Nah. he failed you cause you cheated and helped other people cheat. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Slavsky has high standards but isn't unreasonable. Approachable & helpful *if you ask*. Write on your homework where you got your equations (ex "ch 17 of textbook" or "week 1 lecture slides")--he doesn't consider that cheating. Physics II is a difficult subject, but Slavsky breaks down concepts. Highest exam score is given highest weight :)
Dr. Slavsky may not seem approachable due to his mild manner, but he is always willing to help students, gives great feedback on hw to prepare you for how to solve problems that will appear again, and teaches material either directly from the book or just from his own set of problems. TONS of extra credit, generous grader on exams- recommend him!
Class is graded on weekly homework and 3 exams and the final. He weighs the 3 exams based on how well you do (your highest score is worth the highest percentage). The homework is more difficult than exams but you can get help form him on homework. He is a genius but knows how to explain concepts and cares that everyone understands.
Take him if you really want to learn physics and learning is like an existential endeavor for you. Took 111 with him thinking it would be an easy A since it was algebra-based. Nope, but I walked out of 112 with a much greater admiration for physics and learning in general. Passionate. Monotonous voice but deadpan humor makes up for it. Hard HW. GG.
I had Professor Slavsky for two semesters (111 and 112). Phyics 111 was difficult as I had never taken physics before. His homeworks are difficult but he is accessible outside of class and it prepares you for exams. Weights them based on how well you do on each (highest grade weighted most). Literally smartest person I've met and is lowkey funny.
This professor is one of the most unfair graders/professors I have ever had. He had a huge cheating issue because he makes his class so difficult for a 111 class. The homework load isn't bad but the way he grades is so unfair. I have a tutor and got all answers right but still failed me because I didn't estimate.. I gave the actual answer.DONTTAKE!
I really like slavsky. He is very smart, understanding, empathetic and humble. Seems like he slayed a whole class for cheating last year, so his rate my professor suffered, but he is really good. He is a tough grader on the homework but a lot more generous on exams. I would recommend him for sure.
Dr. Slavsky is honestly one of the most engaging STEM professors I've had at Loyola, and he is very knowledgable of the material and able to articulate information to his students. The class isn't easy, or at least it wasn't for me, but Dr. Slavsky genuinely cares about his students and their grades. His rating on here is way too low in my opinion.
Weekly quizzes, 3 questions each, 5 points a question, and he rarely gives partial credit. So, one missed question and you failed the quiz. It's very difficult to come back from bad quizzes because there's so little opportunities for points. He's also pretty smug and can be petty.
First off don't take him! There is weekly homework that will take you hours to do. The exams are all conceptual and very bizarre wording. Gives petty talks on how you should do better and that it's not that hard. Also makes the extra credit question (1) on exams about random things like his first dogs name, to which he never talked about. -_-
Unless you took physics, it is extremely difficult to keep up with his lectures. He is a caring professor, but his office hours and teaching style are rushed and hard to understand. He does not follow the textbook as much as he claims, and he creates his own homework and tests, so finding other practice resources similar to his is hard.
Dr. Slavsky is a sweet person, but a tough teacher and grader. HW takes so long and very difficult, tests are even worse since he doesn't allow calculators. Not lenient at all with extensions and doesn't curve. Main point: homework is super hard and tests are basically impossible. His lectures are okay, but they don't prepare you for hw or tests
The hardest part of this class was the homework. It was always very challenging and took hours to do, and is harder than the exams in my opinion. The exams are challenging as well but the questions are somewhat predictable. His curve is also generous. He's a nice guy and very knowledgeable, just really tough on homework grades...
Typical example of an ivy-league professor with an ego to match. Teaches an introductory physics course for students who have never taken physics at Loyola as if it was a Harvard class for physics majors. The homework is impossible, his lectures and the book do not help, and he is a hard grader. Says you just "have to get it". NEVER TAKE.
Weekly quizzes (3 qs) based on questions from the text, no other assignments. Two tests (10 qs), one paper/project, and a cumulative final. He gives productive lectures and does an amazing job connecting concepts to real life. Attendance is not mandatory, but do not show up late for class or talk during lectures. Fabulous Teacher!!
Worst professor I've had at Loyola. Has the most absurd expectations of knowledge for a 111 physics class. Aside from the difficult material, he has a narcissistic attitude and large ego. Wasted class time bragging. You should be smarter than us, you are supposed to be our teacher! Pick a better professor if you want to succeed in this course.
Starting off I really did love having Dr.Slavksy as my professor. He is a super caring and sweet person who really wants to help his students. His homeworks are difficult but if you meet with him in office hours we will help a ton! Exams can also be difficult but most of the questions are heavily emphasized during classes and discussions.
Professor Slavsky runs a tough but engaging physics course. While the homework can be challenging, his lectures are informative, and he genuinely cares about student success. Unstuck AI proved helpful for reviewing concepts and practicing problems outside of class.
Professor Slavsky's passion for physics made class engaging; he was always eager to teach and happy to answer questions via email or during class. Weekly homework assignments got longer and more difficult as the semester went by. Grading was based on homework, exams, and a final paper. Exams were open note/internet, but he graded thoroughly.
lectures were long and a little unengaging but he is seriously such a sweet guy and is clearly really passionate about physics, everything in the class is open note and open internet and he really just wants you to learn what you want to learn about. would take again!!!
If you do not have a very solid foundation of physics and do not do well in a class with no example problems, do not take
