Can't control the class. Never began or ended lectures on time. Never stayed on topic. Not good at explaining concepts. I didn't learn a thing from him; the book taught me everything.
SO BORING!!! very easy- talks reallly reallly loud.
Makes rude comments towards students and does not allow much room for opinions that differ from his own.
Hated this class. I was supposed to be learning about how to build arguments but all we did was discuss his personal views. If you spoke out against his opinion he made you seem stupid and when asked what was going to be covered on the final considering all we talked about that sem. were his views all he got mad & told us that was a childish ques.
Loved this professor's classes. They are awesome, but only if you do the readings and really try. Can't wait to take PHI 360. Beware of bad reviews here by vindictive students.
This professor opened my eyes to issues going on in the world that I had no idea about before. He helped me understand arguments for & against my positions on global justice. Better yet,the professor helped me develop my own position & argument for it. Take this course if you care about topics like your nation, global poverty,& international justic
I did not mind being in the class. I loved being able to oppose everything that he said and stating my opinions. It was nice. His public speeaking needs a little work, but he has great writing skills. You should take one of his classes, you might like his style of teaching.C
Great teacher! Some of the readings are real hard. But the teacher helps explain everything, leaves no questions unanswered. Great class, teacher even helps explore unpopular views.
Awesome teacher. Really important topics. Gives U chances to raise grade & helps you do it if U study. Learned about serious stuff goin on in the world from different viewpoints. Sometimes hard, but only if u dont do the reading. Definately take 220 & 360. Cool stuff on politics & ethics.
A+. Very supportive of students who work and try, critical of students with bad attitudes who don't work and hold back the rest of the class. His humor is like 20 years out of date, but he is super nice. Helped me strengthen arguments for my opinions while pointing out the pros and cons of competing opinions. Let me rewrite assignments for a higher
Favorite teacher. Was there for me when I needed help. Nice and encouraging about catching up on missed work. Also real good about helping me improve and rewrite essays. All you need to get a high grade is to do the reading ? and maybe form/articulate arguments for your own positions on the course issues, as he always asks.
Excellent class. Loved the discussions, material, and professor. Topics were interesting and thought-provoking.
This class is awesome. Some readings are hard, but the professor is great. Opened my eyes to so many issues of ethics and justice. Hard for the prof's passion not to rub off on the students who do the reading and participate in class. Class is great when you read and participate - and boring and confusing when you dont.
This was a great class. Prof. S. was always helpful and there for the students. Interesting content and thought-provoking discussions. Really cool overall! Looking forward to taking more classes with this professor.
When I first started the class it seemed kind of difficult. But when I started to put in real effort, do the readings, keep up with the lectures, etc., I began to really love the class. Professor is intelligent, understanding, and helpful. I would love to continue and take more, higher level classes with him.
Amazing professor. Amazing course. Very interesting readings and topics. Cool discussions. Professor totally respects diverse views but does not allow offensive comments. A+. Highly recommend
Best teacher. Knows all the best writings on everything we talked about. When I went thru a rough time, he was so supportive & helpful. Some readings are hard, but he's also answering questions. He corrects students alot, but shows students who listen how to improve arguments for their views. East Y or B if u try with an open mind
I enjoyed many of my classes this semester, but this was definitely my favorite. The readings were both challenging and interesting, and I loved the discussions in class. Professor S. is intelligent, supportive, and funny. This class was a great experience and I am looking forward to taking more in the future.
Really cool class. I wasn't sure I'd be into it, but it turned out to be my favorite. Good professor, helpful and understanding.
This class was a great experience. It was not the easiest, but I feel that I learned a lot and improved my skills. Overall cool class and professor.
Terrible professor. He clearly posted all the positive comments himself. No one liked him, and no professor gets that many ratings in a matter of a few months. Stay away from this fraud.
Amazing professor and a really nice guy. Took both Phi 220 and 360 with him last year. Some of the readings are hard, but the lectures and discussions are awesome. This prof. is so flexible and approachable. Went way out of his way to help me revise and resubmit my coursework. Definite A.
One of my favorite classes ever. Relates philosophy to so many different majors. Definitely take his classes.
Wonderful teacher. Courses are real eye openers. Took 220 last year & now 360. Prof. ties readings to real world events. Knows tons, really helped me raise my grade and apply myself when I revised my writing and discussed more in class,. Good stuff and people.
Dr. Slutsky has a unique teaching style that meshes well with students who want to be engaged. he encourages class discussion and welcomes opinions as long as they can be supported by the reading material. He also has an excellent understanding of the material he presents and can explain it in a way that most students can understand.
I love this professor. Really helped me improve my grade. Very approachable - always willing to talk and help. Class topics really interesting. Some readings are tough but the handouts on the course website put it all in easy terms. Very nice guy too. I recommend his classes.
Excellent class. I loved the discussions and found prof. extremely helpful and generally cool about everything.
Great class. I wasn't sure if i would be able to get into it, but turned out to be really interesting, challenging, not as hard as i thought it would be. Nice professor, very intelligent and helpful.
Had him for ethics. He thinks it's ethical to boost his own rating online. He never made himself available. He often belittled students. Forced his opinions on them. Very condescending, and overall, not very bright.
Cool teacher. He makes me think of stuff I never thought of before. Patiently answers all questions so I understand. Always available to help or just to listen. Do yourself a favor take this class!
Great teacher + class. Talks about important issues. Makes learning ehtics fun. Prof doesn't talk down to you if you don't know or remember things. very understanding if your work is delayed for personal reasons or schedule conflict. All around good dude.
All ways very helpful with class work. I found that the readings for the class are much more interesting than predicted. As far as improvements please make sure students are let out on time and if a student may be contributing allow them to say their opinion first then express your own.
Great class! Professor is amazing! I truly enjoyed this class and thought I would never enjoy Philosophy. If you do the work you will get a rich experience from this course. Disregard bad reviews, those students probably did not put any effort into the class. I highly recommend Dr. David!!!
Good class. Teacher is pretty cool. Helped raise my grade - super helpful. Sometimes less nice when people dont do the reading. One of my favorite classes. Dr. David gave me chances to make up missed work, revise for higher grades, & write for extra credit. Thumbs up from me. Made me think more deeply than my other classes. Good A or B if you try.
Terrific professor. Good lectures and discussions. Helped me prepare for papers and exams. Let me rewrite them for a higher grade. Very considerate professor, but gets grumpy when you don't do the reading. Overall: "A" in my book. Recommended
This was Global Ethics class. There was no textbook, but instead a collaboration of primary sources provided at no additional cost. Professor Slutsky is very knowledgeable about this subject, as well as many others, and presents them in a clear, lucid fashion. Highly recommended.
I enjoyed this class very much. It was interesting and challenging. The professor was extremely helpful, supportive, and encouraging. I learned some important concepts, as well as unique ways of thinking about many topics. Overall, a success and a great experience
I really liked this class. The topics are interesting and the professor is very nice. I would definitely take another class with him.
Thought provoking class. Enjoyed expressing different points of view while Dr. David highlighted strengths and weaknesses of the ideas. flexible & fair Prof. His classes might not work for everyone, but they really worked for me. Dr. David always helped me & my friends study when we asked. Even helped us with papers for other classes. Recommended!
Great class. It was difficult reading and understanding the material at first, but I feel that with perseverance I succeeded.
Pretty cool Prof., but sometimes boring. Overall good class.
Great guy & teacher. Obviously cares a lot about the subject. Really made me think about stuff going on in the world and what I can do about it.
Extremely knowledgable on material!
Great class! Dr. David's enthusiasm is contagious. I started without much interest, but this ended up being my favorite class. Made me think.
This was a really great class, with interesting and challenging material. I loved the lectures and discussions. Prof is a nice guy and very thoughtful and helpful.
This professor just talks on and on and thinks that his opinion (and Singer's) is the best. You don't need to buy the book or do the "required reading." All the essays we write, we get the questions in advance and you can pick which one you want to answer. Boring class, but easy.
Dr.David is one of my favorite professors. He helped me improve my work in his classes and even in other subjects. My friends and I often continue the class discussions for days after class. The tests let us focus on our interests-no surprises. Very liberal class. Not so hard to get a B, but not so easy to get an A either. Interesting articles
Prof. David is one cool dude
I loved this class. It was really interesting, and Prof S is so nice, helpful, and great to talk to.
Really great class. It gave us a lot to think about and discuss. It was challenging, but well worth the effort. Thanks for everything Prof. S!
good teacher. fair grading. he does have some interesting topics, but he can get stuck on something and just drone on for the whole class about it. I did enjoy the class though, and i would take another class with him.
Excellent class and really great professor!
I did not learn one thing from this class. Course objectives were not outlined, and everyone in the class was usually on Facebook and did not contribute to discussions. Even though he was an easy grader it was hard to make comments in class, and my motivation to go was slim.
The guy knows a lot about almost anything you ask him. Tends to get off topic easily but somehow always brings it back to the original point. Don't try to make stupid jokes in class because he will take them seriously. Only speak when you know for sure you're correct. Exams are easy, you learn a lot. Try to do as much of the reading as possible.
He has an answer for everything, sometimes that is not good tho. Class was boring, make sure you keep up with the readings. 3 exams the whole semester, which are all essays based off of discussions in class from the readings. Not too hard! Just boring in my point of view
It's a super easy class as long as you keep up with the reading. Lectures are super boring because he mostly just get's carried away in something and talks about it for a while. There's two papers and 3 exams and he gives you the questions ahead of time. Definitely an easy A.
Honestly one of the most opinionated people I ever met. Lectures are really boring, but the class is really easy just stay on top of the reading. He loves to argue with students not very professional.
Even though we disagreed on most ethical issues, Professor S. helped me strengthen my arguments and better understand the opposition. The professor rarely changed my mind, but almost always helped me learn lots of interesting stuff about the material. Great class, but only if you do the reading-the professor gets upset when we don't do the reading.
Prof S is awesome. His enthusiasm is catching. He makes you see how the material is relevant to your own life. Great class!
Awesome! I had thought about the issues brought up in this class for a while, but without any real direction or way to put it all together. Prof S. really shows how to reason through and put together thoughts in a coherent matter. Whatever your views on ethics, your thinking and reasoning abilities will be stronger after taking this class.
Best professor ever! Loved the class and found it very interesting. I highly recommend
Prof was really nice and very helpful. This is now officially my 2nd favorite class. Helped me to think about ethical issues that I hadn't paid attention to in the past, but are important in today's world.
Super boring class and wasn't really a fan of the professor, he can be pretty rude but the class was really easy! Not a bad class to take to fulfill a requirement.
Horrible class. Dreaded going to it each week and every time he would go over. Whole class would walk out and he would still be talking. Very rude to students and put them down, making them feel stupid and uneducated. Grade was based on three in class papers that you got topics to choose from ahead of time. Easy but not worth it.
Dreaded going to his class, it was long and often went over the time. He asks for people to participate and then belittles and makes studentss feel stupid for their contributions. He cannot say one sentence with out saying "uh" or "um" multiple times. Hard to listen to and comprehend. His class is easy, but not worth taking at all.
Great teacher & class. Gave me new ideas & made me rethink old ones.
WORST CLASS EVER. He rambles on & on which makes it hard to keep up with the discussion. He goes on a lot of tangents about other unnecessary topics. It's a really easy class, but honestly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Really good course & Prof. I've taken both of his classes & they're among my favorites. Highly recommended.
I dreaded going to class every week. He is very opinionated, he is always right. As soon as you speak up about a topic he will ask you lodes of questions to basically make you feel like your opinion is stupid. He talks the whole 2 hours and 45 minuets, just summarizing the readings. In my opinion do not take this class!
Great class and helpful proffessor.
Great class and helpful professor.
Loved this class. Great professor.
Really enjoyed this class. This professor goes out of his way to make sure that you understand the material. Very interesting topics discussed. Saved money on books; prof. uses handouts.
Prof. cares about subject &students. Will take the time to make sure you understand the material. Makes you see things in a whole new way.
Great prof & class. You can tell this guy really cares about this stuff. He'll take all the time you need to go over questions or ideas. Like your own personal TED talks!
Loved this class. It set my mind on fire. Gave me perspective on ideas I already had, plus introduced me to lots of new ones. Prof. S. loves discussing the issues with students and hearing our thoughts.
Awesome class. Gives you a real view of how the world works, and what would make it better.
The worst professor at eastern. Sits in one chair all class and never moves. Talks the entire time without a single break. Yells at students if they have a different opinion than him. Save yourself and never take this class. unless you prefer no work but the thought of suicide every class.
Great class and prof. Learned how to reason much better than I had. Prof. David encourages us to express our ideas, even if he doesn't agree. It's more important to explain how we develop our thoughts than to get the "right" answer. I felt very comfortable expressing different ideas, knowing my efforts would be praised, not ridiculed.
Loved this class. I've always liked this kind of material without knowing it was all philosophy. Prof. David just brings everything together and into perspective. You can feel your mind growing as he lectures and discusses the topics with you. Very generous grader. All he asks is that you read the assignments. Even if you disagree, you'll be okay.
Best class of my semester. Prof David explains the issues perfectly and encourages us to give our thoughts, even when he disagrees with us. Loved discussing different ideas with him.
Love this little dude. Very informative lectures. Professor is very passionate about the material, which makes a difference. When the professor is bored it makes the class bored. Not the case here. Prof. David's enthusiasm is contagious. Plus, just participate and do the reading and you'll get an easy A.
Awesome class. I always had an interest in philosophy, but I thought it was just the ancient Greeks. I had no idea so much of the biggest ideas are from the last 50 years or so. I always leave this class with my brain on fire. I love this stuff!
This was my favorite class of the semester. If you care anything about the world and the people in it, take this class. Professor David knows this whole area of philosophy inside out. I actually tried to come up with questions to stump him and couldn't. Definitely left this class knowing a lot more than when it started.
Since my main interest is business, I haven't taken many courses (if any) of this kind in the past. That being said, I absolutely loved this class as well as Professor David. The way he approaches the subjects makes you care and want to learn about it. I suspect this won't be my last philosophy class.
Excellent class and professor. Easy A if you read the material and speak up in class. Even if you disagree with his views, Professor David gives good grades if you participate. We went over some cool topics and I learned a lot about how to reason and argue.
This guy opened my mind like a can opener. I found myself thinking about this stuff long after class. A lot of fun.
Prof. David is the best everything. He even helped me do better in my other courses. Very helpful, especially when I actually try to do some of the work. Not a great sense of humor, but still a really cool guy, in a laid back way. Opened my eyes to what's really going on in the world.
Awesome prof and class. Opened me up to ideas and thoughts I never heard before. I usually dread assigned reading, but I actually looked forward to it in this class. Great stuff.
No motivation to sit through his weekly 3 hour lectures. He does not offer breaks. He does not allow the use of computers for note-taking. Must read lengthy articles for class. He allows students to share opinions, but he will interrupt. Boring. Two essays, each worth 50%. If you ask for an extension, he'll give it to you. Wouldn't take again.
Very easy class. There are only two papers for the semester, that's it. But he does take up the entire class period. It's a very long three hours because it's just him talking the entire time. Nothing else, no visuals. Just him going on and on about the material and on occasion engaging with other students about it. Boring but easy.
I have Global Ethics its Wednesdays for 3 hours. I try my hardest to stay focused, but he just drones on and on, cannot string together a cohesive thought, doesn't allow many students to talk until he is absolutely done. There is a TON of reading which you need to do. No tests - two major papers. Reading is online, so no books.
Loved this class! Don't take it if you're not interested in the material, but if you are it's not a difficult class. Read the material, share your opinion, and you'll probably do well. Prof is really great to talk to in and out of class! Highly recommend.
His Global Ethics class was so boring. His structure is so lazily put-together and non-engaging that it took every cell in my body to not fall asleep even thinking about this course. The material is interesting but too complex and wordy, just like his discussions. Expect to have to do outside research to understand the concepts covered.
Boring professor. You read convoluted articles meant for pretentious scholars and have to hear him spit illogical sentences back to you. Graded by a midterm and final paper by which you are left alone to figure out. Super dreadful and engaging. Do not take this guy If you want an interesting class.
Very boring lectures, argues everything that is said. Doesn't put any grades in. Interrupts when you are talking, is very rude. Doesn't understand things that are mentioned, and doesn't understand any explanations. The only work that was given was discussion posts every week.
The class is easy enough if you pay attention and do the discussion board. The readings he assigns are wordy and hard to follow, but as long as you answer you'll be fine. Does nothing but lecture and disagrees with students. Very boring class, but an easy one. I didn't study or take notes and ended with a decent grade. I missed a ton of classes too
He is super nice and friendly but has no problem debating during class to make you think deeper. He requires a midterm and final essay, and those are the only mandatory assignment!. Other than that he offers discussion board activities to earn extra grades if you don't want to just rely on the papers. He is always available to talk after class.
I took online PHIL1104 with him. He is very dedicated to his teaching and I can tell he cares a lot. He is kinda tough when it comes to grading writings but not too too bad. The class is always reading, discussion, writing. very predictable which I like, and the topics are interesting. He is also very kind and knowledgeable about the material.
I took professor Slutsky for PHI220 thinking it would be a breeze. The whole class is a discussion class and participation matters for class. This one was so boring and I looked at the clock waiting for it to be done every class. Only 4 writing assignments for grades including midterm and final. I don't recommend if you don't like to sit there.
I really liked professor slutsky, but his classes are so boring, it's one of those classes where you're watchin the clock. There is also a no electronic policy in his class, even if you look at your phone he will call you out and act like you're a criminal. He's a pretty nice guy though and super passionate about what he teaches.
Super easy class, little to no assignments but the class is just so boring. Watching the clock type of class. I mean little work again so makes up for it. All based on like 5 papers
