Music with Prof Smey literally was the silver lining of my first semester @ baruch college.

Great teacher overall. Quizzes are fairly easy as long as you study the notes that he posted online (which are amazing btw). Nothing surprising and super nice about grading. Has a pretty nice curve and is always helpful.

The best music 1003 Professor at Baruch. Grade is based on 5 quizes consist of mcq, fill in the gaps, and short answers. He basically tells you everything in quiz preview sheet what you need to know for the quiz. If you get lucky, take his class at any cost!!!

This prof is literally AMAZING. He makes the class so interesting with simple, crystal clear notes. No tests, only 5 quizzes throughout the semester. Usually only 10-15 questions - SUPER EASY! He gives a review sheet & tells you EXACTLY what is on the quiz! Take him! Easy A! & you get extra points if you have close to or perfect attendance.

He's a great teacher. He really loves music and is so passionate about it and about teaching. He makes it really easy for you by posting up all the notes needed for his quizzes (he has about 8 quizzes and no tests, so that's all he's grading you on) and the music needed on his website, and he goes out of his way to try to help people struggling.

prof smey is great! he loves what he teaches, he plays some great tracks, he is very clear, willing to help you out. the class seemed easy but studying is a must, learn the music he plays, read the handouts on his website and you'll do great. not a super hard class but challenging if you don't study the music a few times. definitely take him

Great professor, music is exciting at all in a business school, but it was just nice taking his class, 5 quizzes worth 20% each he spreads them out really nicely so as to not give them when every other teacher is giving you exams really nice guy, i cant imagine a cooler professor , also has a good attendance policy

LOVED HIM! there's nothing else to say best class I have ever taken and I didn't think I would like it. He's a great guy who didn't make life hard.

All I can say is that he's a super cool guy. Easiest A I've ever received. He gives you notes what's on the quiz a week prior. I studied the night before the quizzes and always got As. Take him. You won't regret it. You can find the book online but it's really not needed at all.

Super chill and nice teacher, makes everything easy for you. Barely gives you any hw, if he does it's really easy. Plus he posted all the notes on his websites so you don't really have to take notes, but I think taking simple notes in class is good. We watch a lot of videos in his class so that's always nice and its nice way of killing time

His lectures can be boring but just take simple notes and do the very rare homeworks because it will help on the tests! even if you put 3o minutes to an hour into studying for his exams you will score above 90. Boring if you are not into music history... however, great guy, super nice and funny. A couple online homework assignments and 4 tests. Gives study guides for the tests, which you will not pass if you do not study/pay attention in class. Helpful when you need it, very approachable.

Professor Smey really wants you to pass, so he posts really helpful study guides and music playlists on his website. If you go to class, pay attention (most of the time), and study the notes posted online, then you will do fine. His quizzes aren't hard because the study guides on his website cover everything on the quizzes. Take him!

Super easy no Midterm or Final just four tests worth 70% and 30% Attendance/Participation I would recommend this class it's interesting if you like classical music.

Attendance is a MUST! Although there were many tests, they were very easy as long as you pay attention in class. I honestly didn't read the textbook after the 3rd week of class. Online quizzes impact grade significantly. Skip those and it will be reflect in your grade. I would def take him again

Easy Professor that does not make Music History boring. What else do I need to tell you? Taking this class to fulfill a credit requirement is an absolute must. You will not regret it!

4-5 quizzes, no midterm or final, 1 music project, graded homework every week. It's all VERY easy. Memorize his review sheets for quizzes and you will get 100 easily. He takes attendance, so you must show up to class ON TIME. He gives +2 points on your gpa if you only miss 2 classes and reduces a full letter grade if you miss more than 3.

The GOAT MSC1003 professor. There is no one better. Takes the time to get to know your names, and means well from the beginning of the semester. Always there to help you with material. Lectures and posts materials from lectures as follow ups. 110% take this professor!

My first semester at Baruch-Fall2017 and I was blessed to have taken Prof Smeys music class. Prof Smey was born to teach, I was a complete novice to music however, Ive learned so much from his class. Hes very helpful and present the lectures in a unique way that engages you. Overall, hes by far one of the very best prof. Great class!!!

He will be one of the best professors you'll have in your entire life. Statistically, he says about 90-95% of his class should receive at least an A or an A- by the end of the course. His tests require some studying, but are fairly easy with not too many questions and mostly multiple choice. You don't have to have a background in music to do well.

For his 3 hours class he lets us out early, his class is really easy to follow. He gives study sheets for whats on each upcoming quiz and the quiz is exactly like the study sheet. I highly recommend him

Best professor I have ever had in my life. Easy A if you read through the note and review sheet that he posted online. The exam is same as the review sheet and he gives you very very very detailed review sheet. Also, he is some kind of professor that you want to write him an email to say thankyou. His website shows an updated version of your grades. His study sheets are so in depth. Definitely a GPA booster.

Class is a joke. Show up, catch up on your fav netflix show and read his review one day before the test to pass the 3 exams. Do the homework as well using google or his notes and earn the easiest 3 credits of your whole school years. This class has a difficulty of a freshman high school course. He tries his best to make it interesting but cant.

This class was an easy A if you showed up, did your homework and passed the exams. Professor posted notes and study guides for each exam so no need no to pass. He answered any questions and was very passionate about this class. he made the class fun and very interesting. He is an amazing man and wonderful professor!

Prof Smey makes a seemingly uninteresting subject very enjoyable. Requirements are clear, lectures are engaging, and quizzes are simple. Listen to and study the required soundtracks if you want to do well in the course!

If you ever thought about taking a music class just for fun or if you need it for credit, prof. Smey is a great professor to take for this course. He was able to make this subject so interesting. This is THE elective class you want to take for art/music/theater requirement at Baruch. He is very clear about what is going to be on the quizzes, and there is no final. This class was not designed to be hard, and all he cares about is that you appreciate music more than you did when you started the class.

I'll be blunt. If you don't get an A in this class, you're either not trying or just dumb. This class is the easiest class I have EVER taken. Just show up as he gives good reinforcement lectures. His quizzes are super easy just memorize the study guide he gives you. Put in that minimal work and you will do well. He also has bonuses to your grade.

GREAT PROF! gives extra credit if zero to a few absences. 4 quizzes he gives great review sheets just memorize songs and info. The class is graded on 4 quizzes and HWs. HWs are easy to complete and quizzes are easy if you just study for them. Smey is super chill and this class is probably the easiest MSC 1003.

Really easy class. All you need to worry about is reviewing for the quizzes and that is it. There is no final and little homework to worry about. You do not need to worry about participating and he is really nice.

Prof Smey was prob my favorite, he makes music fun and if you have a hard time understanding the material, he has youtube videos explaining it. His website is very straight forward and understanding ( you will use his website for everything) and he gives you a study guide and created playlist on Spotify, Youtube and etc for the exams.

One of the most funny, kind, and caring professors at Baruch. I kick myself for not taking his class in person. He uses a revolutionary website where everything is available for free. You can watch or read the lectures depending on what you like. A quiz (which he encourages you to do open book) goes w/ each lecture. 2 special assignments. Take!!!

Smey deserves a 5/5 cause hes the nicest guy out there. Grade is basically hw based and he makes his own website with all the lectures and hw. Hes lenient with the complex hws and gives two special assignments which are basically projects that critique pieces. Hes available for zoom meetings for hw help if you sign up for an appointment. Easy A.

The semester just started but I wanted to rate Professor Smey before I forget. So far I love his course. It's so well structured especially for the Pandemic. I love his style of teaching and the format of the course. He is a human and not a robot, he is relatable, easy to talk to and most importantly he has a heart of kindness.

By far the easiest class Ive ever taken. He uses his own website where he makes blog posts for the class and for the assignments you can just look for the answers directly in the blog post. The only time you have to kind of try is for his special assignments which are still very easy. Highly recommend

Class is conducted through his website; consists of blog posts with videos and audio samples to listen to. His assignments are pretty easy, very interesting, and actually get you to learn while finding the answers in his articles.

Amazing Professor. Weekly reading assignments + 4 writing assignments. Very understanding, always give students several reminders, always accessible, lenient grader, will accept late work with a small penalty until certain deadlines. The professor is always available to help you if you just ask. Also his website is also awesome and easy to use.

1000/10! He's very passionate about what he teaches, it's infectious. I loved his class. If you show up in person (optional) you get an automatic 100 for a few hw assignments. He gives "special assignments" which are projects that count instead of tests. Go to office hours if you need help with it, he's very accessible and nice about it.

I wish I could take him again his class was so delightful and interesting his lessons stood out like nothing else and i still find myself thinking about them. I wish I could see them again, i miss the songs! Beautifully curated curriculum and an easy A, hes great!
