Dr. Smith is a great professor for a boring Gen ed like Bio that no one wants to take. His lectures are very entertaining, and he's funny and enthusiastic about everything. Definitely take him for Basic Bio if you need a lab science.

You should attend lecture because it really helps and Dr. Smith explains everything. So anything that's on the test was more than likely explained in lecture.

Smith is a great professor. Not only will you learn a lot (if you go to class, and you DEF. should) he will make you laugh every day. Sometimes it may seem like he's trying to give you a hard time, but he really does help you out whenever you have a problem. All in all, he is one of my favorite professors so far at lhu.

He's a nutty guy but loves what he preches. and that makes the lecture more memorable. easy to understand and he reviews alot of things when needed. so going to ALL lectures is a really really GOOD idea. He almost made me want to change my major to biology! But he's great and very helpful. and don't be shy to say what you think or ask questions.

Great teacher. His lectures are very clear and interesting, even for people who do not enjoy Biology. He allows people to look at their tests after they take them so they can learn from their mistakes. It's a really good class and it's not that bad, all you have to do is go to lecture and lab and you'll know everything you need to know.

An engrossing speaker, more student-centered than usual lecturers. Always asks the class tell him the answers as review tool. The exams are based entirely on notes in lecture/labs, so the textbook is reference. Oddly, refuses to publish his notes on eCampus, which most other profs do--encourages attendance? "No reviews!"-but seems to anyway.

Great professor... definitely the best option for bio. He makes the material very understandable and encourages you to come to him with questions. It's difficult to fall asleep in his classes because he keeps you involved. My only complaint is that he cant remember students names even when you participate in class often. Take good notes!!

Pretty entertaining during lectures. Must go to class because the exams are off material presented in lab/lecture. Very little use for book but gives a better understanding of basic biology when you attend class

He was very entertaining at time and made the information that we were learning fun for us all. Even though you might not like Biology you will like it with Smith. He is willing to help you whenever you need help and is also fun to work with. The nice thing about his class is that he would say the information so many times that you wont forget it.

This was a very fun class. Professor Smith keeps the class interesting and and he teaches what he needs to teach. He has an intersting way of presenting the material that doesnt make it boring.

You can not draw up a better professor then Smith. He makes the material so easy!! All you have to do is study! I do not understand why people dont do well. He is so funny and makes class really fun. Dr. Smith was my favorite Biology professor so far. He is very fun to learn from and has a sincere interst in what he is teaching. The material is difficult, but not impossible. He makes it easy to understand and fun to learn. I will say, however, that Dr. Smith tends to speed through material. Recording his lectures is an excellent study aid.

Professor Smith was very personable. He tried to get people involved and joke around. His class was real easy. He told us exactly what was going to be on the quizzes, attendance matters. Having it 8am wasn't bad either because he wasn't boring. He is a good lab professor. Take his lab!

Dr.Smith is a great professor. Class was fun. I enjoyed it. He does tend to breeze through the notes sometimes, so some people recorded his lectures, and I think he could have been a little more helpful in lab, but his tests are fair. You need to study and pay particular attention to subjects he spent a decent amount of time on.

My fav. bio class so far. Dr. Smith loves what he does that is hard not to become interested in the material. You should go to class cause he goes over everything that is on the test and gives you hints. The lab books looks like alot of work in the beginning but if you keep up with it you will be fine. Zoology was a great class!! Even though it may seem like a lot of material, Dr. Smith really breaks everything down. Labs are a lot of fun and this class is a great opportunity to learn a lot of information. You can tell Dr. Smith really loves what he is teaching about.....just keep up with the work!!!!

Dr.Smith was a great professor. He has a great sense of humor and it helps you remember things. There is a lot of information but if you just go to the lectures and spend "10 minutes a night" studying, you'll get an A. He's extremely intelligent and likes to talk to his students outside of class.

Dr. Smith is a great lecturer. If you pay attention and take notes, and study the material you will do well. He knows his stuff, and sometimes speaks above the class. I enjoy his sense of humor, and his "over enthusiastic" tone, but my suggestion is to ask questions if you need to because other wise you may stay confused. Easy class over all.

Highly recommended! You do not need a textbook for the class. His notes in class is all you need to study for the test. If you take good notes than you will be fine. Highly recommend taking him for lab also. He makes lab fun, especially at 8 in the morning. Respectable person, easy to get along with. Only teaches basic in fall.

Dr. Smith is one of the best Bio professors to take. I wasn't too interested in taking Biology but needed it for my Gen Eds. and I couldn't be happier about my progress in the class. No need for a book, as long as you pay attention and take good notes and study well a few days in advance you can get an A like me every test.

I really enjoyed Dr.Smith's class. He made it enjoyable for all of his students and would keep us interested by telling us stories. Class is easy if you go and take good notes. Explains everything very well. DO NOT buy the book. Your notes will be plenty. Labs are easy and he tries to make the class fun. He only does the early labs on M-W. Highly Recommend.

If you take good noted this class is very easy. Dr. Smith is pretty funny and teaches at a level that everyone can understand. If you have a question in lecture he never has a problem taking class time and answering it. If you can schedule one teacher for biology, he is the teacher you want.

Dr. Smith has a great interest in the subject(s) he teaches and it is reflected through his teaching style. Student must be prepared to attend class and take notes. Labs are not difficult but pay attention to details. Exams are difficult-especially if you do not understand the material or have not taken the time to study a little each day.

Dr Smith is a great teacher, and he understands that biology isn't your major. He is very friendly and sarcastic. I learned a lot in this class, even though I was failing it. He will help you, but you must work hard and show him that you are trying. Also talk to him, he is bad with names, but if he knows your name, your doing a good job.

The course was easy. Not because he's a slack off professor and doens't make you do anything but because he knows what he's doing & teaches things so well. I was terrified to take BIO. Very fun class! He is a fun teacher, who makes learning bio a different experience. He?s not very helpful if you ask a question but if you go to class and take notes (and study them even just for a few nights) the class isn?t that bad. Also, there are only three tests over all and no extra credit. So, this course can be a little difficult for some.

Great professor, the info you learn isn't hard, there is just a lot of it. But he is very excited about his subject and extremely easy to talk to. If you have a question he doesn't make you feel stupid for asking. Keep a good lab book and look over it and you will do great in his class.

Professor Smith is the best biology professor at Lock Haven. He is very into his work and gets loud and excited when talking about biology. It is very fun and interesting to sit in his class and learn about biology when he gets into it.

Dr. Smith knows how to make the lecture interesting and to keep your attention. Attendence isn't manditory but its really easy to do well in the class if you show up. The only thing I had a hard time with was sometimes he uses examples/demonstrations that I didn't understand or couldn't follow. But if you ask a question he'll help you understand.

What I especially love about his class is how we continually review what we learn. The beginning of every class is a review of the previous class as well as prior topics.

Dr. Smith is my favorite professor in Lock Haven. He is funny, interesting, passionate about bio, and never boring (although some topics may be, but he will do something to make you laugh.) I highly recommend him to anyone who hasn't taken Basic Bio yet, but he only teaches in the Fall. You won't regret you did!

If I had taken this class my freshmen year, I prouble would have changed my major. It was alot more fun than I expected it to be and he teachs in a way that is fun and you understand what he is discussing.

Interesting class, teacher keeps you entertained. It is very easy to pay attention in lecture. You don't use your book so make sure you attend lecture. Tests are very very very hard though. Group studying helps. There is no extra credit in this class. Teacher is very understanding but knows his tests are hard.

Having Dr. Smith for lecture is like going to a standup comedy show for 50 minutes twice a week. Easily one of, if not THE most entertaining professor I've had, making fun and interesting a class many aren't the least bit motivated to take. Regardless if you like science or not, if you need to take bio, get this guy. You won't regret it.

I thought this was a very easy class to take, the lecturing made sense to me and the way he presented the material was very interesting. Also, it helped that most of this stuff was all review from high school!

I enjoyed taking this class.

Professor Smith does a good job of helping students relate to the material covered in class. However, he can get side tracked in class with his stories. Also, he can over simplify material covered in class. While over simplification sounds good, the test however can be tricky as compared to how the information is presented.

Straight forward with material. Helpful when seeking assistance during office hours. Gets side tracked easily which can be good and bad. (It's nice to laugh during class though!)

When he tells you to listen to what he has to say.. DO IT.. He makes everything clear, tells you to write stuff that is really important, and reiterates other important info. Gets a little side tract, but it helps the stress level i think. Great teacher.. Marshmallow

Great teacher. Makes jokes all the time and keeps class interesting. I really don't mind going to his class. No work other then studing. Only negative is his tests are trickier then expected. After every quiz i took i thought i was getting an A but every time it turned out to be a C.

If you've ever heard about how Dr. Smith likes evolution, this class proved it. The class was at 8 am and it was hard to get to, but he was so energetic because of how much he loved the topic that I enjoyed it so early in the morning. He is an easy going guy that actually wants to teach people about Biology and have them like it as much as he does.

Had him for zoology. Great with keeping lecture entertaining, but tends to jump around a lot... sometimes a little hard to follow. But he is still a great teacher

Great Professor! Made me want to get up in the morning for class. Zoo wasn't really that difficult, all you have to do is pay attention and take decent notes to do well. You learn a heck of a lot in this class, and it's well worth your time. One of the best professors in the Bio Department at LHU.

Dr. Smith is a great professor who is extremely energetic and interested in what he teaches. His charisma and excitement about zoology rubbed off a little on me (even at 8am). As long as you dedicate the necessary time to prepare for his exams you will have a good grade in the class. I will miss having Dr. Smith as a professor for sure.

Zoo was semi-difficult, but he was so entertaining everyday so it wasn't that painful. I wish he taught more classes, I would have taken them all.

Class was relatively fun. Its is alot of memorization, and if you keep up with the lab stuff as you go it is bearable. Keep a neat lab book and go to lecture and tae notes and you will do fine.

I really enjoyed Basic Bio with Dr. Smith. He made it interesting, even though it was hard to learn as much as I would've liked because of the class size. I believe that if I would have went to him outside of class for help that he would have helped me with whatever I needed. Definitely a good professor.

He's one of the most entertaiing professors I've had. Oly complaint - sometimes I felt like he spoke down to us. But I still suggest him for Basic Bio

I had Dr. SMith for intro to Biology. It was a fun class. We only had to use the book to verify what we learned if we wanted to. Attendance to Lab was mandatory, but not to lecture. However it was much needed if you want to pass the class because everything he says is what is on the test.It really was a great class though

Dr. Smith made his Basic Bio class interesting,understanding we are not majors. He has a passion for his career, it shows through his teaching method. Not a lot of visuals are used in the notes but he acts things out which will help you remember things. Attendence is not mandatory but go anyway or you wont pass the tests. Dont buy the book.

TAKE HIM enough said. He is the Best Science Professor on campus. If you don't get an a or b its because you didn't show up to class, where he hints about "possible test questions" where in reality they are exact questions on the exam.

Dr.Smith is an amazing teacher. I took the same course last semester and completely failed, it was so hard. This semester I took it again with Dr.Smith and I couldn't believe how much I understood the material compared to my prior experience. He is on point with everything he says and even "hints test questions" if you show up to class.

He is a very funny professor who teaches the material in an effective way. If you attend his class and pay attention, you'll get at least a 'B' in his class. For anyone that needs a biology gen ed, I would highly recommend taking Dr. Smith.

This is a good class. You will pass if you go to every lecture and lab. Take really good notes and go to tutoring! It helps a ton! I am terrible at science and I passed becuase of going to class and because of tutoring! There is no book so you have to take good notes!

Dr. Smith only teaches Bio in the fall, so definitely take it then if you can. Awesome professor, keeps class entertaining. I was terrified of taking my sciences, but he made it not so scary, and even interesting. He genuinely wants you to do well in his class. As long as you attend class and take good notes, you're golden.

Test questions are some times written a little tricky. Also, he downplays the exam, making it seem way easy and then you find out that is not the case. Other than that, he is a great instructor.

Dr. Smith was my favorite professor this semester. He really loves biology and he is willing to explain information as many times as you need for clarity. Seriously one of the best professors here at LHU. I absolutely hate biology and his class is actually pretty good. If you do poorly in his class you must have never attended class because he's straight to the point with his teaching methods. If you have a hard time with bio, I recommend him opposed to his colleagues.

On the first test I got a 59 with only attending 2 classes prior to the test. After attending every class after, I scored an 88. One of the best teachers you could ask for, understanding that not everyone wants to be a scientist. I'd take him for more bios, would it not be for my pending graduation

Dr. Smith is amazing, before taking his class I was nervous about taking bio because I dont like that subject, but he makes lecture fun and interesting, specially the stories he tells You dont use a textbook so you have to take really good notes, and sometimes you might need more clarification, but if you ask him for help , he will clarify

Best professor I've had! Very funny and helpful, labs are easy as long as you go and so are the quizzes. He basically gives you the answers the lab before. Exams in lecture are easy as long as you take notes. Take him!!!!!!!!

Long as you know how to take notes fast and don't miss anything he says you'll be fine but if you do it's challenging because that's what is on your test and quizzes. Don't miss any days either cause he talks about a lot of stuff off topic that he will throw on a test or quiz. I'm glad I survived and I'm super excited that it is over.

If you go to class and pay attention you will do fine. You don't use the book at all so don't buy it, (he tells you this the first day) He emphasizes in lecture what is on the exams so pay attention to that instead of copying everything off the board. Easy to do well if you simply go to class and pay attention.

Come to class and takes notes--not just whats on the board, but also what he says. He'll often tell you exactly what's on the exams (the exact questions) which makes it easy to study. The practicals are the hardest things, but you get cushion points in your lab notebook if you do it right. No book, no lab manual. Easy class if you pay attention.

Dr. Smith is easily my favorite professor on campus. The class is easy as long as you put in the time and effort. If you have questions, ask. I spent many times after lab just sitting and talking to Dr. Smith about anything and everything. He's the most caring professor I've had and I'd take him again in a second.

Dr. Smith was an excellent teacher. He was very helpful, and helped me get my grade up. Yes the class was hard because of minimum grades, but he makes you work for the grade that you earn. Thank you.

Lecture is pretty straightforward and at times droning, and it can be hard to know what to copy and what not to. If he says it, or it's highlighted, you are probably safe to copy it. His practicals are bruisers but if you have a prepared lab notebook you will do alright on those. I used the book to expand my notes and notebook, but not required.

Dr. Smith is a great professor. he tells you everything you need to know in lecture. You don't need a book. He tells you what is likely going to be on an exam. All you have to do is pay attention in class and take good notes. The only difficult parts are the lab practicals, but if you study for them and keep a good lab notebook you'll do just fine.

He can't use the Smart board*** :) . But other than that, he's an amazing instructor all around. Funny, knowledgeable, and he definitely cares about his students. He WANTS you to learn!!! And he knows what he's talking about which makes his explanations crystal clear without any gaps in info. I look forward to going to his class!

Easy fun class. HIGHLY suggested to anymore taking BIO. He is energetic and encourages students to participate and they do by choice. Lectures are really informative. This class is an easier class to take compared to many biology classes. Test are tough only two of them not including the final. Take good notes from lecture and you'll do great. Make sure you attend labs.

BIO 130 for social workers with Dr. Smith was awesome! He knows that we don't want to know every little detail about biology, because we aren't biologists. He is the nicest, and best teacher I have had at LHU. I would recommend him to anyone for any science class that he teaches.

Such a down to earth guy. Lectures were hard to follow but that might because i had him at 8 am. His labs are fun and hands own but the practicals are serious business. Not many grades for the semester so it's easy to do bad once and it drags you down a lot. All that being said I would take him for every class if possible.

Only 7 grades. 2 exams, 2 practicals, 2 lab notebook hand in, 1 final. Exams, practical, and books are all in the same week. Only at midterm time and the end of the semester. Hard with other exams going on at the same time. One slip up and your grade is gone. Going to class is key in doing well.

Great Professor Great Class. Going to class is a must to get the notes as they're not posted online. Lab practicals are more difficult than the lecture material. Final exa, is less than a regular lecture exam. Highly Recommended!

He is the first teacher I have had who shows true passion for his job and gets excited each and every day about teaching it to us, he takes the time to make sure we know the material and gives us great examples and makes something that sounds really hard so fun and easy !!

Dr. Smith is a great professor and person in general. He teaches a topic that he loves (zoology) and teaches it well. Lecture is directly related to labs and he explains all lab material clearly. Being in class everyday isn't mandatory but will definitely help in having a better understanding of the material and insight into what will be tested.

Human Biology for Social workers was a great class! I learned a lot and it was very interesting! Dr. Smith is a great Professor and is willing to help you if you need extra help or have questions. If you need to get a hold of him e-mail him, he is quick to respond.
