A good teacher, but sometimes goes a little fast. Don't be afraid to ask questions though, he is always helpful. There are a lot of tests too, but you get a practice test, and if you study those, you'll do at least OK. I hate math, and do pretty poorly on it, but I studied my practice tests and asked questions, and got a B in the class.

Mr. Smith is truly one of the best professors at Valley. I have taken Math 090 three times (sad) and finally I have found a teacher that can actually teach the material to me. He uses, maybe unintentionally, all forms of teaching styles so whatever he is trying to teach to you he WILL get it into your head. He is always in a great mood, and he has a beautiful granddaughter! Highly recommended. If you need help with your math. Lots of required homework, but worth it.

Math is my worst subject but I took Prof. Smith for 090 a few years ago and I passed it with an A. This semester I took Prof. Smith for 095 and I also passed that class with an A. As long as you show up every day and pay attention you should do well. Next semester I'm taking his Math 102 course. This teacher is highly recommended.

This teacher goes out if his way for you. Terse words are hard for this man because he is that good. Mr. Alvarez told me to take him, and I didn't regret it. His heart is as generous as his grading. He makes a big deal of his family, and you should too. Powerpoints, extra time on tests, and various extra credit points WILL give you a chance.

Honestly one of the best professors there are. He is kind and patient and makes sure that you thoroughly understand the material. He gives very generous extra credit, averages your lowest score, and gives perfect practice tests. I love math, so it was a piece of cake with him. I got 100% on the final and in the class. Mr. Smith is awesome! He keeps the class fun and interesting, gives a fair amount of extra credit (for doing hw as a group, etc), and tells you exactly what to study for and gives good exam guides. I aced all 3 of his classes by studying section by section w/his lectures and the book.

As far as I can remember, it was just his 2nd year teaching Calc I. The content itself is very hard, but very doable if you do your part. He's very humble, even entertains stupid Qs. Do homework & attend class, you'll be fine. He gives out practice tests which really helps in the actual one. Gives a lot of extra credit. Very highly recommended.

Really can make a difference on your grade. My only major complaint is that he goes way too fast on the lectures, not good for people who struggle in math.

Professor Smith is a good professor. The one thing I don't like about his class is that he leaves lots of homework to do. You have to do homework from the textbook plus online homework as well. He goes to fast when he is teaching the class. The homework is super hard. The test as well.

Great professor. Book is needed for homework. Expect to spend 1-3 hours on homework if this stuff is new to you. He gives practice exams ahead of the tests which you take home to study. Spends about 45 minutes per class going over homework. He has no problem stopping lecture to explain things if a student asks. Bring him a Coca Cola!

You can right the problem down, bullsht the work and then write the answer and he will give you the points. YOU grade your own homework in class. Easy A, just make sure you pay attention in class

ALWAYS TURN IN HOMEWORK!!! He doesn't grade it so just Write the problem down and Bullsht the work and he will give you full credit!! Also get into homework groups with people that always turn in their homework because he will give you extra credit on your homework if your group turns in the homework. Great prof. He is very clear in his lectures and will stop if you don't understand. heavy on the homework (40 ish questions a night) but if you do it, the tests are just like it and its not difficult. You can also bs it if you want. He goes at a comfortable pace too.

What a great teacher! Who knew calculus could be so easy?

Sometimes his explanations weren't great, but it wasn't much of a problem for me. SI is very easily accessible, and extra credit is available. He's a fun professor, I took the second half of a 090/095 class and it was pleasantly fast paced. Doesn't allow cell phone or earbuds in class. The homework is sometimes a little overkill, but manageable.

I took Cohort class 95 and 102 with prof Smith in the spring. He's one of a kind professor that will guide you through the lecture and if you're still has a hard time understand the material. There is an SL tutor who will help you, eventually right and after class, so you can a better sense of understanding. There is no reason to drop his class.

I took Professor Smith during summer so I expected a heavy load for a 4 unit 5 wk course. About 2-3 hours of hw daily. Lectures consisted of pp & daily quiz. Plenty of extra credit & he goes over study guides for test. He truly cares about his student & their success. His motivation got me through every time I wanted to drop! Math is not my fave.

Took him for Calc I and it was easier than I anticipated! Since this course was on Zoom, it was not mandatory to attend Zoom lectures. Hes super kind and spends half an hour or so answering homework questions. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests are exactly like study guide.

I am not really a math person but I passed this class with an A so that should say something. You definitely need to pay attention and do the homework because the tests reflect that. He also goes over the homework and study guides the next day so make sure you ask questions. Also, there is plenty of chances for extra credit!

Professor Smith was truly amazing!! When I would ask him for help on some of the math problems he always was so happy to help. What I liked the most about Professor Smith is that he took the time to thoroughly explain each math problem. I really enjoyed being a student in his math class.

My second class with Professor Smith and he's still amazing!! His math steps are very detailed and very easy to follow, once I understood them and practiced them. Although I didn't pass Professor Smith's he was great. Along with his great personality and teaching abilities he is very kind and encouraging. I had a lot of medical issues while taking his class and it was really hard to focus. I didn't pass his class but he encouraged me to not give up. He even would arrive 30 mins early to help me.

Great teacher for an online course. Everything was recorded, so if you missed "class," no problem. Very few extra credit opportunities, so take advantage. Practice exam worksheets just like the actual exams. Can be hard to reach and rabbles a little, but he wants his students to succeed. Homework wasn't too bad. Gives quizzes. Free textbook.

This class stood out to me because it was not another program-based class. I was being taught by a human being who could answer specific questions. Watch the lectures, try your best on the homework, and you will be fine. Exams were open note, the professor asked that you just don't use the practice tests. FYI, attending lectures was extra credit.
