I had online Hist 2010 and 2020 with him and he was pretty easy. There were only weekly quizzes, a midterm, final, and book review. It was great considering I don't like history.
tough to please, doesn't seem to like southerners. Comments about south are rude! Brings his PERSONAL POLITICAL OPINIONS TO CLASS. Expects everyone to be a history major and know what the hell he's talking about
plain rude and arrogant
His class isn't extremely easy, and he doesn't cater to whining which is why I think he gets a bad reputation. He was very snotty, but to the point where I thought it was almost ridiculous and funny. In the end though, he was very knowledgeable, and I did learn alot.Tests almost entirely from notes.
Great professor! True test are not easy and it all comes for the notes... but it eliminates just about everything else in the book that you really don't need for the test (and really are you that interested?) As far as his “rude comments” about the south. Get over yourself and it’s just his opinion.
gee, i thought he was pretty funny.
Freaking Awesome, love the comments and the vivaciousness he brings to his classroom. Prof. Butts needs to follow his lead....
I think that Professor Snyder is very funny and he is only speaking the truth about the south i dont think he sugar coats any issues and that may make people mad i am a southener myself and i do not get offended by the truth. i say keep up the good work Professor snyder and he is knida cute in an Er
I don't particularly care for his style of teaching. I agree that he brings his political views into the classroom, which can be annoying at times. Tests are pretty hard.
I took 2010 in person and 2020 online. I think he is easier in person just because online you have to take weekly quizzes on each chapter and in person you just take a midterm and final. You a book review in both classes. You get a study guide for the mid and final, take notes and it will be easy
Great professor! He does not hate Southern people. Easy to talk to. Test are essay, but if you study with his study guide, you will have no problem at all.
he is a bit of a nerd. well he is a lot of a nerd. he knows his suff though.i find him very entertaining even when he is serious it is just funny to me. his class was very easy, everything was from the notes.he is cute in a geeky way!!!!!!!
He is really hyper, talks fast but is very fun to take.
Dr.Snyder is extremely passionate about History. This was not an easy class for me, my final grade was a C. I took him during the summer. We only had three or four grades. The class was not completely horrific. Tests were extremely difficult. Tough class!
Whether History is your subject or not, it will be a treat to take Dr. Synder. He makes you actually want to learn about things, and it is impossible to get sleepy in his class.
Great teacher; he actually caused me to be interested in history. Snyder is one of my favorite professors of all time!
Just hope you don't have to read "The Cause Lost"! He is a great teacher but, out of all of the history books out there he picked the worst!! But besides that he is excellent!
if you want someone who knows his stuff, Dr. Snyder is your man.It is not a easy course, you do have to work, but he lays the information right out there for you clearly and straight from the book and his notes. If you pay attention, you have a good start.I walked out of class each day clearly knowing something about our histroy and understanding it
I enjoyed taking this web class with Dr. Snyder because he is clear and you know what to expect. The mid term was easy and his weekly quizzes are too. If you study and do your part you can get an A. If you love history you will definitively benefit from his knowledge. Dont think he's hot though.
He made class enjoyable and easy to learn.
His class is just copying notes and following in the book, you write one paper and you have the whole semester to do it. the paper is easy and he is a great teacher. He's also really hot in a nerdy way.
Dr. Snyder is a quirky guy. Very silly and sarcastic and random. He's a good teacher, its just sometimes he's a little unclear. For instance, he told us to not worry about knowing dates all semester, but on the essay if you didn't have dates, you're grade dropped. As long as you pay attention, you can pass.
Dr. Synder is a great teacher. He rarely took attendance though going to his class would benefit. He gives three tests and a paper. He gives a study guide that is basically the test. GREAT teacher.
I love Dr. Snyder! He makes American History sooooo much fun! You do have to study for his tests... But if you review the material, you should do well... You also have to write a book review. If you read the book you'll do fine. I was scared about my review grade, but I got a 94!
Dr. Snyder explained everything so clearly during lecture that I cracked my books open maybe once or twice during the semester. Exams are short ID and essays and you get a study guide beforehand. On his exams: Know the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How and you'll do fine. There is one research paper as well. Great class and excellent lectures.
Great Teacher. Had no interest in history until I took his class. He made things more interesting then they had ever been for me before. Tests aren't the easiest, but if you take good notes, study them and follow his guide, you'll do great.
I absolutely dreaded History before I took his class & by the end of the semester it was my favorite class. I learned alot & it wasn't painful. You barely need your books & his lectures are very organized, clear & easy to follow. He is willing to help & very understanding.
I took his class because I read all the good comments about him on this website, but he absolutely sucks! He was rude, obnoxious, and seemed a bit schizophrenic. His tests are hard and they are the only grade in the class besides a long essay you have to write over a whole boring book of history. I HATED HIS CLASS!
Took him online and it was easy but he is rude and not helpful at all. I ended up with a 89.3 and he would not bump my grade to an A. I didn't miss any discussion boards, took all the quizs, and tests, and he didn't care. I understand 89.3 is not an A but he said 89. 5 was. Never dealt with a worse teacher.
I took Dr. Snyder's class online and it was pretty easy. All you have to do is read your chapters and you will do fine. His exams are pretty easy also. I recommend him as an online professor.
Never had an interest of history and this professor makes it fun.
he does not use the textbook at all. 3 exams and only 1 paper. exams are consisted with 25 multiple questions and 2 essay questions. though there is 2essay questions on the exams, you just write 1 essay question. before taking an exam, he gives study guide.
He is awesome!
Worst professor ever.
HE SUCKS!
Took this professor online. If you read the text and participate in discussions, you have NOTHING to worry about. He even drops the lowest FIVE grades from quizzes that are weekly! He responds to EACH post individually and is easy to get in touch with for questions! Highly recommended.
As long as you read each chapter, take the quizzes, and answer the discussion.. this class is easy. He drops 5 quiz grades and he curved the midterm. Be sure to look at the study guides and you will be fine.
Online class during summer semester. Fast paced, quiz for each chapter, 6 discussion posts, midterm, and final. Loved it! 5 lowest quiz scores dropped, read chapters, take notes and you will do just fine :0)
I had this prof online. He was pretty easy. We had one quiz and one discussion every week, and midterm and final. He drops the 5 lowest quiz grades and gives you study guides for the exams. As long as you read and get everything done on time, you will ace it.
Love Dr. Snyder! His class is pretty straight forward. Attendance is not mandatory but I would strongly recommend it. His exams are given straight from his lectures.Your grade consists of 3 exams and a paper so you must study and do well on all 4. He gives a study guide the week before exams and it is exactly what is on the exam.
I never liked history until I took Dr. Synder's class. He makes class more interesting and exciting. We had 3 exams and 1 paper.
TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!!! If you can discipline yourself to read chapters, do 6 discussions, take the quiz(10 for a grade), midterm & final (each has 50 multiple choice and 2 small essays) then you will get an A. NO PAPER DUE!!!
Awesome teacher! He is enthusiastic about his work and everything he lectures I take notes on with my laptop. My first exam I scored a 100!
Very enthusiastic teacher. I wasn't very excited about this class near the beginning but he makes the class interesting and enjoyable to attend.
Took his class online. Very clear on what is expected and more than willing to help. He is harsh if the discussions aren't answered like he wants. Also the discussions are setup kind of like a contest. He doesn't like repitition between students so the earlier you answer the easier it will be. Had to read 15 entire chapters and write a 3 page paper
Is great at lecturing, keeps you interested but you take ALOT of notes and is alot of information to take in. He gives you a broad study guide, but it's better than nothing. Isn't the easiest history professor ever but you can easily pass if you attend class and study.
I loved his class! You take a lot of notes, but it is worth it. I looked over my notes once before every test and made 95+ on them. You have to do a term paper (ours was over General Jefferson Davis) but he gives you the packets to read. He also gives study guides and has "help" sessions before the tests where his assistant goes over every question
The entire class he is lecturing, no interaction with students (could be talking to an empty room) Though he is enthusiastic and engaged in the lecture himself, I found it way to easy to fall asleep. So word of advice: be a good note taker, stay, BE ON TIME, stay awake! His tests are based on lectures and the VERY broad review given for the book.
He is VERY energetic. No homework, just a term paper. Lectures were boring to me though. He isn't a jerk, but he doesn't have time for questions, he will dismiss you. ALWAYS BE ON TIME. I had an 8am class. If you come at 8:01, you might as well skip because he asks questions with the iClicker to take attendance at exactly 8am almost every morning.
work load was a bit excessive. Very demeaning and rude in comments made on discussion board. Thinks everyone should be at the level of knowledge that he is on the subject, and pretty sure he thinks he is also an English Professor, Very unimpressed with him!
Very easy class. Book use not necessary because he gives you all the information in the lectures. His lectures are long but he makes history an interesting story. All you have to do is attend and study your notes for the exam and you will pass with flying colors.
Extremely knowledgeable. Always willing to back up his assertions with historical record. He uses the whole lecture hall and moves around with lots of energy to keep all 100 of us engaged. He is also polite when students make ridiculous comments not grounded in education. He has a great sixth sense of when the class seems confused about a point.
I took this class as a 4 week Summer I class. 2 exams, 1 research paper. That's all the grades. If you record his lectures and take good notes you'll be fine. You are given the entire semester to write a research paper. You must love to write, as his exams are purely essay.
He's very energetic, always moving around the room. He has a smart mouth though. The lecture can be a bit boring. Make sure to write down what he says, and have the iClicker with you at allllll times.
Great teacher- covers what is on the exams, energetic while teaching, willing to help if you email him. Easy points for attendance each class, exams aren't too difficult as long as you study the topics on the study guide he gives you. Wish he taught AM. Hist II
Dr. Snyder is an awesome professor! He knows what he is talking about, and if you take good notes you will succeed in his class. His assistant is very helpful in study sessions and I recommend that you take advantage of those opportunities. He makes you enjoy history and he keeps us all engaged with the class. I wish he taught History 2020! :)
15 quizzes, 10 counted. Midterm, Final, Discussions, 1 Paper. Class was manageable as long as you make sure you look at due dates. Dr. Snyder was helpful when needed. This was a good class to take online, would have loved to take it in class. The online course does use lockdown browser, so you must read!!
Professor Snyder took history, a subject that usually bores me to sleep, and turned it into my favorite class. He really gets into his lectures and delivers the information in such a way that you're hanging off of every word. its like story time. I enjoyed his class so much that I took him for my European Military History class over the summer.
Very good instructor that tries to get you thinking of more than just the subject matter including what was going on at the time. Great class would take another by him.
As a professor he is the norm. He is a very rude human though. If you want a professor to respect you and not belittle you, then do not take Snyder.
Great teacher! Very helpful. Grad student available if needed for extra guidance. No hw, just tests and 1 paper. Very straight forward. Makes history interesting and fun. Gives exam review. Tests are multiple choice and essay, no surprises. You get the essay question in advance! If you fail his class you simply didn't try or didn't show up!
You have three exams that he gives study guides to. His grad student holds review sessions. Tests are multiple choice and have an essay part to them (you are given the questions but only 2 will appear), one paper you don't even use mla or apa on. He uses the whole class time but is interesting, don't forget your iclicker
Professor Snyder will open your eyes to US military history. What you think you know will only be enriched by this course. There were only 3 grades for his class, two tests (midterm & final) and 1 paper. Lectures and assigned readings are a must. Ask questions and prepare to learn.
Dr. Snyder gives great lectures and keeps the class engaged, he does get a bit long winded but he is very knowledgable. Tests are a bit challenging but you just have to take detailed notes from his lecture. I'd take him again.
Easy online work but done expect help from him if you have a question. Never gave specific answers and I always had to turn to my classmates.
I have never actually enjoyed listening to lectures until I took his class. If you have just a slight bit of interest in history you will really enjoy his class. He does get long winded but he keeps it interesting. Gives AMAZING feedback and emails back within the day. He is extremely knowledgable in what he teacher. My favorite professor by far.
I hated history before his class. His lectures bring history to life since he uses modern day examples. He tests from his lectures but it does help to read on your own also. He is a non biased history teacher ever and tells it like it is! He is a stickler for the truth and I respect him for that. Clicking for attendance helps your grade!
NO homework. Just 3 tests and a short paper. Very easy grading, and if you study, you should pass his class with no problem. I really enjoyed this semester. Although the lectures were long, he found ways to make them interesting. We got two excuses absences per semester, you use an iClicker to answer a question every day. I didnt need the text book
Took online because I HATE history. Read his reviews on here which made his class seem promising. Wrong-O! Book is ESSENTIAL to passing this class especially the writing assignments ( which have to be 350 words for credit). Quizzes are easy if you use Quizlet.
Fantastic professor. He covers information rather quickly, and is prone to bouncing topic to topic, but if you keep up with him, it's very interesting information. He's very, very knowledgeable, more than happy to answer questions, and wants you to succeed. His tests are fairly simple, but you have to pay attention, and learn the information.
Easy class just long lectures. Study for the exams.
This guy doesn't lecture: he TEACHES. I've never learned so much in a history class before. And believe me, it is SO interesting. He does an amazing job of conveying information, and knows how to drill it in so you won't forget it. The class is only based on a midterm, final, and short research paper, so there's not much room for error. Great prof!
Super amazing lectures. Pretty lenient guy as far as grading goes. He's crazy intelligent and does an amazing job informing students. He's a really nice guy too! And just as a plus, I would give him 10 chili pepper ratings if I could.
Dr. Snyder is an amazing professor. I did this course over the summer and there was one writing assignment (350 words) and one quizz a week. The midterm and final were though, but reasonable. You will definitely pass if you do the work. Dr. Snyder gives you very good feedback on your writing assignment, it helped me improve a lot!
You don't need a textbook. If you take good notes in his class, you can pass. Do everything that he suggests, because he really is helpful. If you do want an online textbook, get in online at VitalSource
Honestly just pay attention and make sure to take notes for the exams. 3 exams and 1 paper. 25 multiple choice questions and then an essay question.
He was alright, kinda hard. If you dont think you can pass all 4 tests, dont take him.
Snyder is a very good teacher and is an interesting speaker besides the fact that he never looks anyone in the eye when he talks. The test as doable considering he gives you a study guide on what exactly to study, but I recommend reading the book and having it for extra support during his test.
You have 3 tests and 1 paper in this class. So basically if you nes up one grade youre screwed. Attendance isn mandatory but you wont pass if you dont go. Each test is 25 questions multiple choice and an essay at the end.
Professor Snyder is a very hard professor. Lectures are long and boring. The test are hard as well. Do not take him if you don't have to.
The reviews for this professor's classroom courses make him sound like a different person, so I have to assume he does not like teaching online classes. He clearly knows his subject, but his interpersonal skills are highly lacking. He's actually quite rude and condescending in his personal communication. Tests are okay, but tough on the essays.
The entire course is based off of two exams, a final exam, and a three-page analysis. The sources for the analysis are provided at the beginning of the semester by Dr. Snyder, and it's insanely easy. This is the history class for non-history majors. Find a way to get interested and ask him questions about that subject (for me, it was war).
He knows his stuff and loves to talk but goes over what seems likes weeks of material all in one day. If you don't show up for one class, you will struggle on that upcoming test.
If history isnt or has never been an easy subject for you, he is definitely the teacher to take. Attendance isnt mandatory however it is for a grade and those points will add up fast. Only 1 paper. Easy to talk to if having personal issues. Love his grading criteria. TAKE HIM, he wants you to pass and makes that well known through the semester.
I assume Dr. Snyder does not like online classes. This is a 100% online class. There are no lectures, no study guides and no hint of what he is looking for on the quizzes. He does not teach at ALL. And all of his grading is done by his TA. One week they say your paper is good, next week same type of writing, and it is not acceptable. Terrible.
DO NOT TAKE ONLINE WITH HIM!!! Makes his TA do all his work for him. Inconsistent grading criteria. You'll get told you missed key information even if it was in your essay. Mid-term & final are closed book, including the 2 essays. You get the topics in advance, but there's 8 topics he can choose from, so study long and hard.
He is the worst. So hard on us and he doesn't even do most of the work, he has a grad student do it. No help or support, all of the material is out of the book so he doesn't even bother to put any resources in D2L, and there is no pleasing him. Also, he grades very opinion heavy and gets on to us all the time for not doing good in his class. worst.
An absolutely negligent professor. This class had no support, no instruction, and strict grading. Grading done by a TA almost all of the time. All this interspersed with demeaning comments about the performance of students who had been hung out to dry. Avoid at all costs, Dr. Snyder doesn't do his job.
I never took the time to sign up to rate a professor. Until now. Every rating you have read about this professor is entirely true. Get ready for quiz questions like "Overland immigration to the trans Mississippi west was highest in: a. 1840 b. 1844 c. 1847 d. 1852. If you take this guy, you have no one to blame but yourself, because you were warned
He's lectures can be very monotone but they are interesting at times. Gets to the point and is actually trying to teach students history instead of just telling us what the book says. Attendance is mandatory but only does it 18 times. Will work with you if he notices progress through the semester.
DO NOT TAKE ONLINE WITH HIM. There is no clear structure to what he wants done or a study guide for his quizzes or tests. His lectures online are great honestly, however nothing he talks about is ON the tests. From the comments I can tell people think he is better in person and I'm sure he is, but do not take it online with him.
He has high expectations
Please read these reviews take them seriously!!! I was the one who thought that it wouldn't be as bad as everyone said. I was wrong. The class content wise is very easy to navigate, you have a weekly quiz and writing discussion. However, if you need help, he is rude, and you can almost never please him. Please take another professor if possible!!!
This course is VERY individual based. All that is given by him is online lectures that are mainly used for your midterm and final. You are expected to read every assigned chapter and take the quizzes (proctored online). Most weeks you have to write a writing exercise that is at least 300 words and the prompts are very general, but he gives feedback
You can tell Professor Snyder enjoys to teach as he is very enthusiastic and animated when talking. Only tests, a paper, and attendance are graded. If you go to every class you will get at least a B in the class. The tests are not overwhelming. As long as you take notes and pay attention you won't need to spend much time outside of class.
He only grades attendance, the 3 exams, and a document analysis. You have to take notes as he talks, but he jumps back and forth between subjects making it hard to keep up with. He gives a study guide, but personally I do not think they are very helpful, the exam is specific while the study guide is very broad and inadequate to study with.
An hour and a half class lectures every day. There is a lot of information to remember for the test, and for the test, it's multiple choice and handwritten essays. Coming from a history nerd myself, this was not a fun class AT ALL!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! This was actually the worst professor I have ever encountered. Any time I would email him for clarification he would be very inconsiderate and demeaning. Maybe this was just for the online class, but I would never want to experience him in person if that is what he acts like online.
You won't get counted if you're in the bathroom when he takes attendance. He grades 3 exams and 1 document analysis. All the exams have handwritten essays at the end. In the essays, you have to have SPECIFIC details. The study guides he gives you aren't helpful. If you make a bad grade he says you didn't prepare and if you email him he's rude.
I finished with an 85.7 and never used the textbook. I missed 3 classes but he drops 2 grades you missed at the end of semester. I would not recommend taking this class at 8am if you are not a morning person because it will make a very easy class extremely difficult. The people who are struggling did not show up and take good notes or didn't study.
Professor Snyder is an engaging lecturer, but his class is heavily focused on exams and attendance. The tests can be tricky, so taking notes and using study tools like unstuck ai are key. Overall, a decent option if you're willing to put in the work.
I did enjoy this online class, but I wish I had known ahead. Every week you watch a lecture. Every week you take a honor-locked quiz, you will have 8 essays, two exams(also honor-locked), and one three page essay as your final. You read 1 chapter every week. No AI AT ALL. He is cool with the grading, and will cancel 5 bad quizzes, and 1 essay.
Dr. Snyder is very passionate about history. His online class is lecture and test heavy. The quizzes/exams need to be taken through honor-lock, all based on the textbook. There are weekly quizzes, 3 multiple choice exams that also include two essay questions, and then a 3 page essay about documents he gives you, not based on the book.
Snyder is a horrible professor. Though I'm learning from his lectures and the textbook readings, he consistently gives me B's all while mocking my writing ability. He's stubborn and sticks to his guns—won't amend his decisions. Wouldn't take him again. He is unfair, hard, and mean. Makes me hate history…I have always aced history. Not this time
