Kinda boring, seems to like macro. Stupid tests. Would take other teacher if I had a chance.
He seems to enjoy macroeconomics a little too much. He holds Alan Greenspan in the highest regards and speaks of him constantly(gets annoying). I remember having about an inch and a half stack of single spaced typed notes for each of the tests...look out.
The class is amazingly easy. He posts his powerpoint lectures on his webpage. Note: Do not read the book!!! I came to class (didn't take notes or anything) read the powerpoints the night before, and aced the class. Just make sure you understand the materi
Really boring, don't buy the book, don't take notes! Print out the PowerPoints and memorize them. Grade consists of 4 pretty hard tests, thats it! No XC, however, class is curved.
Great prof.
tests consist of 25 m.c which are doubled, and handwritten problems afterwards including lots of graphs to draw. not too bad, but still need to TRY to get a passing grade... trust me, i know.
dont go to class. print out his notes from his website and memorize them. dont read the book. easy class.
FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS HOTTTT SWEARTERS!!!NEVER WENT TO CLASS, JUST GOT THE NOTES FROM HIS WEBSITE AND STUDIED OFF THEM...AND PULLED A B IN THE CLASS....VERYYYY BORINGGGGG PROFESSOR, HIS JOKES ARENT FUNNY BUT JUST LAUGH ALONG
Good teacher, everythings is clear. Can print everything off PowerPoint, which allows you to listen in class instead of taking notes to get a better understanding of the material. Found it interesting.

First "C" IN MY LIFE
I'm not an econ major and it's a difficult subject for me. I think this professor is very fair and presents the material well.
Took him for Macro, 610-9pm. Gave us one 10min break, long and drawn out. Do not buy the book if you take him, tests come straight out of his notes.
this guy is a cool mother ****ing polok. take him if you can
I never ever went to class and skipped and never studied and so on. but i got a C. then again thats my style, he doesnt care if u skip. i recomend him because if u pay attention u can learn, and if u just do enough to pass u can still pass.
He's a very good teacher. The exams are very difficult.
He is an excellent Professor. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. You will not need it, his tests are all from his notes. The material is difficult but he makes it easy to understand if you pay attention. You can get all the powerpoint notes from his website, which you will need for the exams. He is a very nice guy, I would definately recommend him.
Very hard ~trust me~ first bad grade in my education.I dont think he should be teaching this course. Not helpful-best of luck!
Class is decent if you pay attention. Very long lectures. Tests are tricky. On multiple choice, many of the answers are very similar with word variations. Homework is easy if you go to class. I didnt buy the book and currently have a 3.8.
Difficult subject.Difficult text. This Prof. does his best to make the course interesting and easier.
He tries to make the lectures interesting. As long as you pay attention during class you should do fine. Attendance is not required, but recommended as tests are based off of lectures. Book is optional really.
Great professor, funny analogies. Do not buy the book and just attend class or read lecture slides and you will be fine. His lectures are not to boring just take a few notes and do the HW assignment before test and you will get atleast a B. Also he has a built in curve that helps
This class is ok. You definitely need to attend class to understand. Don't buy the book, waste of money. Print the lectures and you should be fine.
This class is very long and boring, but overall really easy. The textbook is completely useless. If you want to do good, just read over all his powerpoint slides, and then do the homework, and you're set for the class. Tests are completely based off his powerpoints, and the homework. He also has a huge curve built in, which is really nice.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THE BOOK. WHOLE CLASS IS BASED OFF POWERPOINT SLIDES WHICH HE PUTS ON HIS WEBSITE. TEST ARE HARD ALTHOUGH INFORMATION IS CLEAR. WOULD BE HARD TO PULL AN A. 3 HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS 3 TEST THATS YOUR GRADE. HE IS EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGABLE ON THE SUBJECT BUT IS ALSO VERY BORING. HIS LECTURES WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP.
really long class, but he knows his stuff. Just study his PPs, and do the homework, and you should do really well. Took 202 with him last semester, and got an A easily without ever showing up. taking 201 with him now, and it's even easier. Somehow class average on tests are 70%, so he has a huge curve built into grades. 88% is an A.
He is really boring, and I HATE economics, so I knew coming in I wouldn't do well. He ended up being okay though, and his curve is AMAZING, I've never seen one like it. Don't expect an easy A though, cause that's what I thought after reading previous comments and it's not true. You HAVE to study his powerpoints and do the homework.
This Prof. is on a very short list of the very best I have taken a course with!
Material is very interesting, however there was a lack of connection between prof and students. 20 Homework Assignments,Exams were 11 Essay problems with 2-3 sub questions, and he only gives you 2 hrs to finish, which is nearly impossible givin the material. WOULD NOT RECCOMENT THIS PROFFESOR, unless you want to have a nervous breakdown.
I had him for both Micro and Macro. Don't interrupt him too much, try to stay on topic if you ask a question or make a comment. Exams were not too hard if you attend all the lectures and take good notes or review the powerpoints he posts. Aplia is the mandatory website for HW (good). Graded Curve A-=85%. Knows his stuff, a big hockey fan.
Talks was too fast for me~! Can be very confusing at times. His notes & Slides are in good.
Great prof. and great class. If you like Economics or Finance I truly suggest this class. The prof. is one of the greatest ever. Book is a must. I enjoyed the book, great way to study and be knowledgeable of how banking works.
This Proffesor is not helpful at all,you don't understand anything from his lecture, he realy puts you to sleep but the most important thing he doesn't help at all so if you need to pass this class don't even think to take it with him believe me. STAY AWAY.
Fantastic class and professor. I've always had a bit of an interest in economics, and this class made me understand more of what's currently going on with the economy. Prof. is extremely clear, pulled a B+ without trying. Textbook's interesting too, it's not hideously boring like most :]
Good teacher but tests can be difficult. There is no teacher student interaction (that doesnt bother me but for some it does). Clear in his lecture and tries to make it interesting however it can be boring. Text book isnt used however it can help you on aplia homework. I recommend highly for an econ major but for a general req take someone easier
Economics is just a pretty hard class overall. Good teacher explains everything very well, very knowledgable of the subject. Has 4 test and thats its, I suggest going to class and taking notes on the slides he provides. I would take this teacher again
Very knowledgeable This class is not one you can get by without studying or giving no effort to get the grade you want. However, he is one of my favorite professors and got me really interested in economics 4 exams and around 12 simple Aplia assignments. I would for sure take him again. Smart guy and laid back
It's possible to get an A, but it's a lot of work. He gives on line homeworks that take a great deal of time, but they do help you on the exams. Althogh the tests are extremely hard, his grading scale makes up for it. As far as economic professors go, you should be alright as long as you're prepared to work.
He is very dry and his lectures are boring. I never went to lecture and pulled off a B because Aplia assignments were really helpful. Although Aplia is a pain, they really do help you for the exam (and they are 22% of your grade). Summer has 3 exams, I believe he does 4 for fall/winter. Other than him being boring, I'd recommend taking him!
Very nice guy. Class was 3 hours long, so I was always super bored and zoning out. Very fair curve. Just read the text and do your Aplia assignments. I pulled off an A.
He is very easy to understand and works hard to answer student questions. He is willing to help as well. The text wasn't used very much and all of his lectures are slides which he makes available online. The curve is pretty extreme. 84 will net you an A-. Do the EconPortal homework because it helps a lot!
He's a great teacher. Very Helpful, He's understanding to student concerns. He will take time out of his day to help you understand the material. He makes Money&Banking Interesting! At first i thought i could not succeed but after he helped me I knew the material. He's so clear and helpful. Take him but try not to miss class his lectures are Great!
Easy professor. Grading scale gives an A at 88%. Clear expectations. Class involves online homework and tests. Dr. S mainly lectures to powerpoint, but gives good depth and explains things well. Very helpful and responsive to student concerns and issues with the online grading. Not an inspiring/interesting lecturer, though.
Horrible Teacher! Exams were long & confused. Curved grading scale but still not easy. Avoid class at all cost!
He is a great professor. Just need an 88 to get an A and he is very knowledgeable about economics and he will talk about current events. If you go to his lectures, do the online tests, and read the chapters, you will do fine on the tests. He is pretty funny too!
Tests are half m.c.& essay with math questions and graphs. The curve helps but he curves for a reason his tests are hard you need to put in a lot of effort I would NOT recommend.
Very nice professor! He graduated from the University of Michigan - Dearborn so he understands the standards the students are expected to achieve. Class consists of 3 tests and multiple online quizzes/homework assignments. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested in money and baking, and how our financial system operates!
Great guy very clear in explaining things. Kind of a rude outside class but he'll answer your questions. I would recommend and take more classes with him
The class is boring, a lot of online quizzes that he does not remind you of. Be sure to do well on the online quizzes the make a very big difference and are helpful for the test. The exams are okay, not easy but not impossible. I would not recommend this class
Nice and smart guy. BUT he will bore you to tears. he doesn't remind you about the online quizzes you have and his tests are kinda hard but possible.
Class is very straightforward but has dry material. Lectures are filled with nothing but him talking with no class participation so it is hard to pay attention. Online homework is easy and tests are okay if you study what he tells you. Easy to do well if you put in the work.
He is very boring but he definitely knows what he's talking about. I had a hard time keeping up with the online quizzes because he does not remind you when they are due, but he does drop your 2 lowest. The tests are pretty hard and he does try and call off what you need know but he goes really fast. I would not recommend unless you are majoring.
extremely boring professor but he definitely knows the material. Tough class but he is good at explaining things and is very clear and thorough. He is helpful if you go into his office and has a pretty lenient curve.
my fellows for an A grade: read assigned ch or pgs, HW practices (not graded but helps), Quizzes 20% of grade:write dn ALL due dates DAY #1 so you dn't miss any. slides make more sense if you read the text(read them well for Multiple Qs). Tests are Multiple(some math)+short ans(math & graphs). It's hrd so all introductory cors. He's understanding!
second class i took with him and would definitely take again. read the text, pay attention in class, and do the online work and youll do great
I'm sure this man is a great guy, but his lectures are painfully boring. He's VERY knowledgeable on the topic, but the way he delivers the information is stale and I have a hard time sitting through his class. He grades on a set curve, so getting an A in here should be relatively easy.
He will, what? Go an entire semester without relating a single extremely broad macroeconomic model to, what? A real world example, in this case, if you will. His lectures on economics are, what? internally logically consistent. He will, what? Tell you which way the lines shift on the curve, nothing more, in this case, if you will.
I don't get why people think his lectures are boring. To me his class is very fun & he makes Econ more interesting. He gives hw quizzes for each chapter & practice problems to help understand the material. He is very good at explaining the subject & he is very knowledgeable. SI sessions are useful for test review. The tests are fairly easy.
He never once reminds you of upcoming quizzes, if you do not stay on top of them you will not do well. I would never take another course with this man, worst teacher ever. If you like listening to someone read straight from a PowerPoint and give horrible examples, take this dude.
Will never take this professor again! Lectures were SO boring. He was not helpful. When I asked him questions he acted like I was bothering him. Tests are hard. Talks WAY above learners heads and way too fast. I was marked down on a test for not defining something was wasn't asked. I approached him and said it should have been "implied".
Try to take econ 201 & 202 with Carol Hogan. This guy is OK. There are 4 tests and 10-12 online quizzes for the semester. Tests are kinda confusing. His grading scale is different though.. an A would be a 90%
If you are unfamiliar with econ and not an econ major DO NOT take this guys class. He is cool outside class im sure... but in class his lectures are so advanced you just have to sit there and act like you know what he is saying. Cool grading scale though because he knows how hard his class is. Its tough to sit through his lectures.
Very hard class. Lectures are clear, but theres really no reason to go to class because everything in online, even the quizzes are. Tests are very hard and are all essay questions. I wouldn't recommend this class unless you are an econ major. It is nice to know about the money and banking system though.
Prof. Sobiechowski utilizes the entirety of his class-time to not only read from his power-point slides (Which understandably can become boring and slightly frustrating), but also explains the concepts behind the many graphs and examples. He knows the subject well and explains the concepts with analogies (Though too often to fantasy football).
Economics is objectively a difficult subject to grasp, and he by no means makes it easy. His lectures are long, dry, and by the book. I say that because its's very possible for one to just read the chapters and show up on test day. The tests are relatively difficult and all include a generous curve. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT. B- average is normal.
This professor doesn't assign any papers or projects, but the online quizzes are mandatory (like 20% of my grade). They're not bad at all though. On the first day, he basically hinted that you can cheat on them and he wouldn't know so doing all of those should bump your grade a full letter. Besides that, it's just lectures and tests.
Lectures are long and by the book. The online homework and quizzes definitely help boost your grade. He tells you almost exactly what will be on exams, at the same time they can be a bit difficult.
Dr. Sobiechowski is a gem.... But, be prepared, he is an acquired taste. He's hilarious, but his sense of humor takes a bit to get used to. Eventually, you will see where he's coming from, and you will just sit back and enjoy the show. He is incredibly passionate about econ but he is an awful instructor. 3 exams super easy A and the curve is insane
Cool dude, fast with email responses. 15ish quiz - drops lowest 2 (20% of grade). 4 exams at 20% each (not cumulative). Make sure you study the slides, do quizzes and at least show up the last day before any exams because he does a little in class review and pretty much gives away most of exam. Easy A and I wouldn't consider him a tough grader.
I think he seems to forget that this is an UNDER GRADUATE level course. This was only the second econ course I have taken and the first wasn't even macro. It is clear he knows his stuff when it comes to econ but he speaks at such a high level it goes over everyone's heads. Test class averages were awful and he says "in this case" 90 times a class.
If you want to take Econ this is your guy. There should be no reason you dont get an A in the class. There are online quizzes which should be an easy A for you. If you understand the slides youre gaurenteed to do excellent in the class. He is very clear about what is needed to be understood
I went to every lecture but participation really isn't mandatory. You wanna go to the class before the test though, because he lays out every single question/concept that you will see and what you should know, making the tests a lot easier. 3 tests and a final exam, which is basically just a 4th test. Online quizzes and HW that isn't too difficult.
Prof. Sobiechowski was a good econ instructor. To the point and concise. Although, in my experience, he did say the phrase "in this case" approximately .79 times a minute. It may seem trivial, but that did get my attention often times more than the course work did.
If you attend lecture and take notes, you'll do fine. He's a great professor and clearly outlines everything you will need. Anything about an 88% is an A.
Great instructor. Lectures were very interesting and was happy to take questions and expand on things during the class. Reads a very nice study guide before each exam. Attendance is not required but you'll want to go as much as you can. Lectures will be easier than reading the book as they cover less than the book and only what is on the exam.
Mr. Sobiechowski's class is the same everyday. You go into class and sit through a lecture - which for some people works really well. There are online quizzes and learning curves through Sapling Learning. The lecture before the exam he normally told the class what to expect on it. Overall, you need to put in the work. Go to the SI Sessions!!
If you want to do well in this class you have to show up and actually study, good professor he gives you everything you need to know, he's a nice guy and very understanding.
Very easy going professor. He lectures pretty much the whole class but you learn a lot from it. Lectures may seem boring, but very important for future exams. one thing I did not like was how all his questions for his exams were short answer, other than that he's not a tough grader which is a plus.
Aside from tests, this class is all lectures. The professor makes jokes during class, but the information is very difficult to grasp and understand. There are learning curves and quizzes online, along with extra credit, that will help your grade if your test average is low. Going to class feels pointless because you don't learn anything.
Grade based on 4 exams and online homework through Sapling Learning. Sapling does a good job preparing you for the exams.
You have to buy the online homework/ textbook. Theres multiple assignments due each week. The exams are so difficult and there is no curve. No matter how much you study you likely wont get a good grade. This professor is awful. He doesnt answer emails either. Do not take!!
Do not take, take everyones advice
Professor Sobiechowski does a very good job preparing you for the tests in the lectures, so you definitely do not want to miss them. He usually gives you a pretty decent outline of what is on them the lecture before the test so listen out for that. The lectures tend to get a bit boring but if you power through them you will learn a lot.
lecture was very boring and barely beneficial. It is very hard to keep up with what he is saying. Talks fast, no participation at all just reads over the slides. His tests were not easy at all no matter how much you study.
I literally never paid attention in class, but I still got an A by doing all the quizzes online and the learning curves. The tests were not bad. I suggest reading the chapters, going over learning curves, then doing the REVIEW QUESTIONS. also the day before exam, write down what he says is going to be on the test. best guideline I had.
4 main exams with online quizzes. Classes are super lecture dense i almost fell asleep in every class period. Doesn't really interact with the class. But he gives you basically everything thats going to be on the exam the day before the test so they aren't that bad. More lectures than teaches...
You gotta buy the achieve access thing to submit homework, save yourself the 80 bucks and pick a different professor. He seems like a nice guy but the lectures are quite boring. He does offer extra credit, and uploads presentations for all the chapters done in class so you dont need to sit through the class to get a decent score.
SAVE YOUR GPA
i took this class in the summer to get it over with but this professor wont make it an easy semester. He even states that this a challenging course that is 7 weeks.2 exams and a lot of graded homework and 5 graph assignments. I would recommend another professor.
trust me if you have no life in the summer, then this class is for you.
Dr. Sobie is honestly a really great guy! Not condescending and genuinely loves economics. The class wasnt for me but econ is mainly hard for everyone. its boring but attendance isn't mandatory and he lets u know everything that going to be on test the class before. he also has plenty of extra credit so don't feel bad if u bomb 1 of the 4 tests. :D
Very boring lectures, makes you pay for achieve on top of tuition for the class, test are difficult.
Lectures can be dry, but this professor gives great exam prep. Utilize the textbook, learning curves, and Unstuck AI to ace the tests. Attendance is mandatory, but worth it.
Great Lecturer. Just pay attention.Tells you where the test questions are coming from. Homework and quiz online every week but a good reinforcement of the material. Took in fall '24 in person so maybe online is different.
This guy is really good, he is very fair just show up to class and read his study guides for test, gives out a decent amount of extra credit and is a very nice grader
