The best Ive ever had
Great overall professor. Calculus 2 is hard but he makes it bearable. He grades fairly and does his best to teach the subject. I will recommend him for anyone ready to learn calculus.
He is the best calc 2 professor on campus. He is just great.
Soto knows his stuff, but doesn't know how teach. He doesn't know how to explain examples well and had to cut off a couple chapters because he couldn't go through all the material. He's a genuinely good guy (he lent me his book when mine was stolen), but not suited for teaching. He's very willing to help you, but he isn't actually very helpful.
What a great professor. What a smart man. He is very helpful. He is one of the few professors who care about you. He encourages the students to learn. He is at the learning center always available for office hours and he is willing to answer emails at midnight about math questions and help you out as much as he can
Fair grader, tests are straight from the homework. He makes math easier with simple examples. His teaching method is the best. Pierce College must be proud for having this guy teaching. I?ll never forget you Professor David Soto, you are the best?
he's a good guy, he knows how to teach. I think the problem in this calc 2 class is that the subject is pretty challenging; that's why I am not getting that good grade.I like his class , but he's very fast in explaining facts. for mr I like that but my mates don't. I am still taking this class with him and hope to do better in his next exams :D I w
This is a serious class. In order to be successful you have to do the HW three times. He is always at the tutor center and is extremely helpful. You have to understand that when you're at this level, you NEED to put time. If you put time and form study groups there is no reason to fail his class. I got a B. Very funny guy.
not the best teacher, he isn't very clear and his accent makes him difficult to understand. his method of teaching doesn't fit most students so half the class was gone by the end of the year. my opinion is to avoid.
helpful teacher at times. His lectures can be confusing and sometimes not pertaining to the test. But asking questions helps.
Mr. Soto is sooo nice!!! His tests are easy if you pratice the problems he gives you. He is a wonderful teacher with his little funny jokes. Take him!
Didn't assign homework, we were required to learn on our own. Likes to give problems that you've never seen before on tests in order to make you apply basic concepts taught in class to a MUCH harder problem on an exam. The first 2 Exams were total ball busters. In lieu of this he gave "suggested probs" for exam3/final and it became reasonable.
Soto is a fair teacher, it's just that Calc 2 is a pretty difficult subject. Got a C, though I was pretty close to a B. It's totally doable. His tests are pretty easy and straightforward, I just relied too much on my AP calc knowledge and didn't bother with the material. You can get an A!
He is decent human being but hes too tired from teaching all day. The book he uses goes slow and so does he. Its to the point that half of the sections become useless and you end up with ALOT of homework. Tests are easy but focused on only 2 sections rather then 2 chapters. I give the professor b+ , he skip half of the problems to "save time"
I don't think I learn anything from his class. I always studied by myself. he is not fair on grading and he didn't give any partial credit. don't take him for cal 3.
really hard grader. he doesn't give partial credit and he doesn't drop tests. don't trust him if he says he will help you out, you have to earn your A on your own.
tests are straight forward, but no partial credit. practice the examples from class, do the homework. lectures can be confusing but just copy the examples and work them out on your own or with tutors.
he has very high expectations. He is very hard. My GPA dropped :( Teaches it like we know the subject.
Excellent teacher. Take him if you want to actually learn. Don't listen to these whiners, they probably didn't put in enough time for the best grade. If you ask for help, he is always there.
One of the best professors I have encountered for Math. He explained everything well and his tests were not bad. The class is not easy and you have to work very hard to achieve a good grade. From my years at Pierce, and having so many bad experiences with math professor Soto is the best.
I took this professor with the APT program. He ended up splitting the TRIG/PRE-CALC cass instead of learning both at once! I put in a lot of hours studying, only take if your dedicated! He replaced your worst test(only 2 tests) with the final if it was a higher grade! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM! Very fair with students grades!
HIS FINAL WAS QUESTIONS FROM PREVIOUS TESTS! he uses questions from the book and tests! study that and you will pass! definitely recommend him
hes nice and helpful, however, the tests were like a roller coaster on level of difficulty. you wont know what the heck youre going to be tested on so study everything.Unless he gives straight advice. I liked the class but im a hard-working student. If you want the material spoon fed to you I suggest you drop out of school.
Really great guy and a good techer. I did drop the class, but that is due to taking to many units (19) and not being able to keep up. But he was always there to help. He really wants you to get it. He is a REAL person and if you don't overload yourself with work and other classes and you put in the effort, you will get an A in his class.
Best professor! He cares helps his students and does his best to make sure everyone understands the material!!!
He was rad, and genuinely cares about his students. The best math professor I have ever had. Soto is willing to accommodate to specific student's needs and gives tons of room in grading for his students to succeed.
Professor Soto was a great teacher. Instead of simply giving you an answer, he was able to explain things in a way that allowed us to find the solution ourselves. Classwork consisted of 6 exams, online quizzes, and a cumulative final. I definitely recommend taking Statway Part A with him.
Hard to understand him which makes it hard to learn
hard grader. he doesn't give partial credit and he doesn't drop tests. don't trust him if he says he will help you out, you have to earn your A on your own.I GOT 89.10 ( B ) IN HIS CLASS.
really nice and willing to answer questions and clarify the homework or chapter. i recommend taking him, he seems to really care if we understand the material, and does his best to help. Great guy!
I'm taking this class over summer, so maybe that's why my experience with him might be different than most others. He assigns homework like a drill sergeant and expects you to do THREE assignments by 9:00 AM everyday, including friday morning and sunday afternoon. Don't take this guy, unless you feel like being tortured and sleep deprived.
He's just not a professor for Calc 3. I learned nothing from him, and he didn't explain the material well. There is a test for each chapter which is mostly from the hw, but you won't learn anything from his class
He is the best professor on the Pierce campus. He will make the effort to help if he sees you struggling, he will step in. He turns "D" students into "B" students. He wants to make a difference.
Professor Soto is not fit to teach higher Math. Poor Lectures. Expect to be on your own in this class, he advises students to study outside of class in groups and seek help elsewhere before coming to him. Effort to make sure his students succeed is very minimal. Makes Calc 3 harder than it should be. Harsh Grade Breakdown 3 Exams 20%, 40% Final.
Professor Soto taught basic concepts of each section to give us a foundation. His test forces you to manipulate basic concepts on to more complex platform, demonstrating full understanding of Calculus II. This class is hard in fact if not impossible without work. Many students will struggle even with work. It is your ability to grasp and see.
Tests are really fair if you study and get the concept . If you go to his office hours you will understand the material better since he helps you out a lot during his hours. Don't be shy even if you don't remember anything ask him and he's willing to help!! :)
Professor Soto is really care about his students. He wants his students to learn and move on. His test are not hard if you know the concept, BUT do not forget you have to study really hard to get the grade you want. He is not only teach you math, by the end of the semester you will see how he prepared you to take any class without any fear.
A very competent individual, and fair grader. However, he never let's off the reins and it can become extremely stressful. Also, some of the homework problems can be exceptionally hard, especially when your still trying to grasp your head around the fundamentals of the material.
He's an awesome professor. The only bad part about him is that he goes at a very fast pace. Assigns a lot of pages for homework. He is a really flexible guy. He is open to changing days of tests and accepts late homework.
He's a great teacher! Regardless if he gets side track or distracted with other things he teaches very well. Tests can be a bit hard if you don't pay attention to him when he's teaching but if you pay attention it will be easy. His final was easy too just 30 questions and we had a review test the week before the final. He does help when needed.
He's a great teacher , as a first time college student I'm glad I took math with him , although I didn't do so great in his class , his tests can be very hard and confusing , he's very nice when it comes to late work but don't do it often , actually don't do it at all. other than that he's a really nice guy.
Soto has a great sense of humor and is both reasonable and approachable. Note: 1. Online homework isn't due until the end of the semester. 2. His lectures usually just repeat the textbook, clear lecture style. 3. The vast majority of questions on his tests are modeled after homework problems. 4. MATH270 is the hardest math course at Pierce.
David Soto is so sweet , he's a really chill professor I passed his classed you just have to study nd do good on the test and he gives study guides before the test which helped me ALOT. Take Him You won't regreat it :)
If you want to learn Math, then he is the best professor to teach you math. Although I always get high grades in my math classes, I feel that this is the first time I learn and understand Math. Expect a lot of pressure and be ready to earn the grade you want. If you aren't good at Math, don't think about taking him in winter or summer sessions.
Professor Soto is one of my favorite Math Professors. I took Pre-Calculus with him over the winter and it was a great experience. He grades on a straight scale but is very fair with partial credit and goes out of his way to help struggling students. He gives analogies to help you better understand the material and is also just a realllyy funny guy!
David Soto is an excellent professor at Pierce College. This course is meant to be difficult and it only becomes harder if you don't put the effort. Textbook is mandatory to read. Homework is online and it is a must do, or else you will not pass his class. Exams are difficult but he is a fair grader. He is funny and attractive for an older man.
Don't bother buy the workbooks, he prints out copies if enough students don't buy the books. If you know a bit about Algebra you'll be bored out of your mind. Goes off on rabbit trails that barely explain the point he's trying to make. You can basically walk all over him if you're a well behaved student. I spent most of the semester browsing IG
He loves the sound of his voice. You'll be bored out of your mind if you take his class. He's very picky about answers and stingy with giving you credit. Unless you're really good in math don't take his class.
He's not a good teacher. Teachers notice your effort and give you partial credit, he does not. He wants you do your work exactly the way he shows you. If you do it differently, he'll mark it wrong. He's not an inspirational teacher, would NOT recommend especially if you're a hard working student, he will flunk if you don't do your work his way.
Nice guy, but not a good teacher. Got an A on four tests and messed the final and 60% - I got a C in the class. He's not really interested in what you have to say. He's a really nice guy, but if you can avoid him,try that. He doesn't care if you did well and worked hard the whole semester, mess up even a little and he happily give you the bad grade
Genuinely one of the most caring professors at Pierce College. He has his own sense of humor and is friendly and very approachable. He devotes many hours for students to go and ask questions, etc. His homeworks are not easy and neither in Calculus II, but if you focus on understanding the homeworks then the tests won't be too difficult.
He goes off topic a lot, doesn't stay focused, and he gets angry at you if you go off topic or don't stay focused. He is fair though, if he's you're only option, it could be be worse. Passing his class in not impossible. Try your hardest to find a better professor though.
Amazing professor. This is the second time I have taken him and I would take him again. He really makes you want to learn and he tries so hard for you to understand the material. He's hard, but an incredible teacher. If you want to actually learn and not just slide by, take him.
Funny Professor but hard grader. Lectures are really intense till he goes off topic and talk about the old days
Is Soto a hard prof? yes. Is Calc2 hard? absolutely. But we all knew that going into the class. This is a subject you have to work at to understand. IMO after taking all 3 calcs, its the hardest one. But he really gets you to understand the material. He is very helpful and knows EVERYTHING, genius. So kind and his class is very entertaining.
He is great professor, I would recommend to take him, he always gives us sample test before exam. If student has difficulty understanding the problem he always help them out
Professor Soto is a great professor, he really cares about his students. If you show him that you care and that you're trying he will do whatever he can to help you. I've struggled with math all my life and he motivated me to stay in the class and it payed off. I highly recommend him.
He is so nice, caring, and responsible :)
Math is hard. Professor Soto is clear of what he expects. For someone who struggles with math I liked the online math lab to actually learn what I was doing right and wrong. The grade is based on the midterm, final and online homework. He is willing to help with homework questions in class and has availability outside of class as well.
If you are struggling with math then take him , he will open up your brain to the math . for the first time in my life math become easy and sweet to me . Yessss he goes off the topic a lot but there is a reason he does that , this is his way to distract you from done subject and fresh you for new one and it really works. Thank him
I must say Prof. David opened my brains to love and understand math. In the one year I have been at pierce college I have never met such a prof who tries and uses live examples in order for the class to understand and gets to the level of the student one on one in class, and makes sure you get the concept. he really cares about his students.
HE is ABSOLUTLY amazing!he's such a nice guy, teachers good. he would be gladly to go over anything you need help on, on his office hours and even after class. he does get off topic but what's so wrong about that, distracts you a little bit so it doesn't get too stressing, loved him would take him again. he gives you opportunities to fix your grade
Took him for a summer session and let me warn you- if you are taking any other class I suggest you drop it because you will be glued to your computer doing the HW. Very fair grader. You must earn the grade you want! Quizzes and exams are reflective on the lectures so pay attention and take amazing notes! if you want an easy A, move along
A very fair teacher and grader. he gave our class so many opprotunities to raise our grades. Explains material well There was a quiz everyday on the material covered yesterday. One of the most down to earth math teachers at pierce. He is very caring for his students and will go over whatever you need to help you understand.
By far the best math teacher I've taken at Pierce! He really cares for his students! If you're looking for an easy class and not work hard for the grade you want then don't take him! If you make an effort you do your homework and participate you'll get an A! Plus he's hilarious! I never missed a day of his class he makes math entertaining and fun!
TERRIBLE LECTURES, DUDE IS IN ANOTHER WORLD CONFUSED AND CONFUSING
CONFUSING LECTURES DOES NOT LIKE WRITING ON BOARD ONLY USES SLIDES
really confusing teacher, i'm more confused than him during the class : talks more than he teaches
Professor Soto is one of the best math teachers I have ever had! He simplified everything and spent enough time to make sure everyone was comfortable with the material. He is also very funny and lecture is always entertaining. All homework is online and he provides you study guides and oractkcs questions for exams. Highly recommend also no tables!
MY FAVORITE COLLEGE PROF! I used to hate math but he's made me love it. He makes the class interesting and fun. He hilarious and he really cares about his students. He's encouraged me and so many of my others to be the best we can be and reach for our full potential. Prof. Soto is someone who I will never forget and will always look up to!
Superb professor for Calculus 3. Take him only if you really want to learn math. He'll teach a lot of core concepts and be prepared to work for it. It's a hard class but incredibly satisfying because he ties everything together and links it to other classes. He's really funny and sarcastic but always breaks down problems if anyone has questions.
Professor Soto is awesome. He is very good at explaining the material, and is extremely understanding if you have a question to ask. His main goal is to ensure that every student does well in his class, and he goes to great lengths to make sure that happens. I hope to be able to take another one of his classes in the future!
I was very scared at first, but after the first week I started to like him. He is very knowledgeable and he was able to connect everything we learned in class with physics, which helped me understand the material even better. His jokes are awesome, he is very sarcastic. If you are in a math major take him for calc3 and linear algebra.
Great guy and i really enjoyed his lectures, but that depends on your learning style etc. Sadly theres online homework which means buying an expensive access code.
Like any hard class if you don't try and put in lots of effort you are not going to do well. I wouldn't bother going to class his examples are pointless and confusing. You need to teach yourself majority of the material but at the end of the day if he sees you're trying then he will try to help you out. David is also a funny guy
Soto is a very friendly professor. He's approachable, and will help you, if you request. However, the examples given in class aren't very helpful in regards to completing the homework, or understanding the material. Take him during the fall or spring semester. I advise against taking him during the summer/winter unless you're extremely fast-paced.
Prof. Soto was amazing, caring, intelligent, and funny. He tends to get off topic, but he is a master at explaining math using real world examples. He cares about understanding the concepts, rather than route computation. Not the best at answering questions: he will try, but often answers a question different from the one you actually asked.
I had his class four days a week and I only showed up 2/4 days because what he teaches in class really doesn't relate to the homework. The homework is online and sometimes the website wont accept your answer because it isn't written exactly how it wants, which is frustrating. He's a caring teacher and creates a comfortable environment.
He is overall a great professor knowledgeable . Of course this class requires effort to get an A but he can be VERY lenient on the grading making it manageable. Lectures can be a little too slow of a pace sometimes but again not too big of a problem.
Took Stats227 my first semester in college & dropped. Retook it with Prof. Soto & passed it with a B (side note: I'm really bad at math & yet passed it with a grade I never imagined getting so there's really no excuse) Online hw that would get frustrating but made good practice. He TRULY cares about his students. TAKE HIM
I took him for Math 240 and in the beginning its fine but when the semester went by I was so confused on what he was explaining he always does this thing where he just stops lectures and says some random things. If you get bored easily dont take this class because I wanted to fall asleep the whole time. Tests hard but he does offer some ec.
Teaches what you need to know for precalc rather than what the course would generally contain, acts strict at first but he really cares about his students and will make exceptions if you ask. Show up on time, do the homework and study, you'll pass. He often tells short stories that he either makes up or are real in order to refocus the students.
David Soto is a very good professor and is really funny. He genuinely wants all his students to pass and will dedicate class time explaining questions that you have. He also goes over similar questions that will be on the test which is really helpful. Just don't slack off or get behind!
Professor Soto is the classic scenario of a professor giving his students every possibility to succeed but still having the majority of the class struggling through sheer incompetence and laziness (including myself). Yes, his class may be a bit difficult, but he will make the test/quizzes off the homework explicitly, so there's no surprises. 5/5
Soto is really a great Mathematics Professor. As soon as I noticed this man running back and forth to write out equations and explanations, I knew he'd be a good teacher just cause of his effort! He will teach fundamentals that explain nearly all of the how's and why's of math. He talks a lot about other things than math but he has reason!
Professor Soto is one of the best professors I've had! His lectures are very clear and he genuinely wants all of his students to pass and understand the material. His course is mainly based on tests so yes they can either make or break your grade. If you study and do the homework, you should be fine.
Professor Soto is funny and really nice, but I didn't like the way he explained things. He's caring and his class is chill. He's accessible outside of class and understands his student's needs. Wouldn't take him again because I don't like math but would recommend him.
Math is not my strong suite at ALL but Prof Soto was extremely flexible and caring with COVID-19 going on, his lectures were recorded and posted on Canvas and he was very responsive to any emails. Not the toughest grader, all the test are based off the HW on WileyPlus. Great prof would take again!
Tests are just based off of homework and are the same exact questions as the homework just different numbers. Homework is 25% of your grade which really helps. His teaching is good and caring to students, responds fast to emails. Would recommend taking him, his class is easy and this is coming from a student who has struggled in math my whole life!
calc 2 is a hard subject but professor soto was helpful and put in a lot of effort in his lectures. the grading is composed of Tests for each chapter, online homework, and a final. if you take notes, pay attention, and do the homework then you should be fine
I LOVED Sotos trig class!! Ive always been bad at math so I was extremely scared of this advanced math class but Soto broke down these difficult concepts to the easiest lessons. Honestly I felt like I can ask any question and hed help us learn all over again, with no judgement underrated quality. I definitely recommend him Thanks Soto!!!
Favorite math teacher at Pierce by far. LEARN THE STUDY GUIDES and you'll do great on tests! Seriously, the study guides are your best friend. He gives you every opportunity to get an A. He's really funny and will take time to explain things to you in office hours or after class. Put in the work and you'll get an A.
Took Calc 1 over summer and was really scared I was going to be overwhelmed but Soto had a strict schedule and clear criteria which really helped. Warning he can be a little monotone during lecture but he calls on students to answer questions so make sure you are paying attention. Overall, his tests were straightforward, and made math easy.
Gives easy exams. Assignments are very helpful. His lectures are very thorough and well explained. Overall, very understanding and good at his job!
Took professor Soto's class for fall 2020. He cares about his students. His Tests and Final exam were easy. Homework itself was 45% of the grades. Nothing can stop you from passing in his class, 3 tests and 1 final exam the same as the tests from the book nothing special, 3 hours to finish 10-15 easy questions in each test. Take him!!!!!!!
Took his class online and it was pretty simple just make sure you pay attention because hes call on people randomly. Hes lectures are pretty straight forward and are easy to understand. A very nice professor definitely recommended!
He is the easiest math teacher I have ever taken considering it was online. I failed math in high school but I somehow good. Tests are really easy and you have 3 hours to complete them. We have two homework assignments a week. We pay to use an online website for our work and I learned everything from the textbook. Super simple and stress-free!
These reviews are cap becasue he was completely different online (fall 2020). He is so monotone in his lectures it makes you want to fall asleep! The homework basically determines your grade. If you get one thing wrong on the homework you can go from an A to C. The homework was harder than the test and most of the stuff he didn't go over.
Got offended when no one participated during live class, loved to go on tangents about it instead of actually teaching. Very monotone. Thought you were dumb for not understanding a part of his lesson. Kinda rude. Lots of homework, I used quizlet alot. Form a group chat with the other students for help! Daily lessons didn't match the same day's hw
If you want pass Math , you have to this class with this amazing Professor, He really teach well , and His home work as math class is not too heavy , easy final, easy quiz , He is so fun , at begning of the semeste he is serious ,but after 3 to 4 weeks he will be easy going . HE IS AWESOME. take this class with him , if you want just pass
Prof. Soto was extremely fair and kind. He wants you to learn. Statistics is a weird class, but he managed to make it fun and enjoyable. I feel that I learned a lot from him. He was always available to help which I appreciate it. I would recommend him.
Easy class and tests. This guy is hilarious, he made Stats enjoyable
I haven't taken a math course in a few years and I killed this class! Professor Soto is your best bet if you need stats. Teaches the material at a slow pace and explains everything thoroughly. Your week will consist of about 10-15 questions with multiple parts to it & reading questions. The hw is more difficult than the exams. Take him 100%
Im currently in Prof Soto's class. He is a good guy, no complaints. But his homework's are very difficult. Like very difficult for someone like me who needs a couple of minutes to process what I need to do. He is a nice guy and appreciates effort. If I pass calc 1 with a B or higher this semester, I would definitely take him again for Calculus 2.
Im currently in Prof Soto's stats class. He is a good guy, though his homework is pretty heavy. He is definitely a fair grader and he is considerate of each person and their abilities. He has amazing lectures and is thorough with his explanations. His tests aren't even very hard. I would 100% recommend taking him if you can.
he cool
Very easy to pass this class. The online homework and reading questions make up 65 percent of the grade and he gives you 2 attempts at every question. 2 in class scantron tests, 2 at home. At the end of the semester he will bump everyone's grade up 5 percent for extra credit. I should have had an 88 at the end but the 5 percent got me the A.
Take this class with a group of people that you can complete homework with. Since homework made most of the class credit I was able to get an A but I feel a little unsteady in my knowledge of calculus. Take notes and don't be afraid to ask questions. Professor Soto was an enjoyable professor to speak to and genuinely wants his students to succeed.
Prof Soto is amazing! If you're pretty good in Math like me, you may find that he does move a bit slowly, however this is only because he wants to make sure you know the material. The class was in-person, and well managed. He used WIleyPlus at the time, but that may change. Very caring, and super funny, you definitely won't regret taking his class!
In person class and we didn't have tests, just homework every week and 4 projects throughout the semester. Can be comedic in nature at times. You have to get Wiley Plus to do the homework assignments and to access the data sets for the class. The Wiley account includes the textbook, but you don't need to use it.
Struggle in Math? Take Prof. Soto. He'll help you with anything you're struggling with. Very fair, and as well can cherish your pathway at Pierce; not just math relative. No midterm, no finals, just 2 projects and a Wiley website. Overall, take him, you'll eventually pass with a C or higher!! If you don't take him in the semester, you'll regret it
Very funny, rounded my 86 to an A, and teaches the material clearly. One of my favorites at Pierce so far
As someone who has always struggled with math in general, Prof. Soto made the class seem like a breeze! He teaches trig in a way that prepares you for precalc, so I found his lectures to be very helpful. He takes his time to make sure the class actually gets the stuff, so it can seem kinda slow. However, he's funny so lectures weren't super boring.
Really easy, I appreciate that he gives clear directions on what to study and what will be on the tests. As long as you actually study said material, you will get an A.
Amazing professor; cannot say enough good things about him. Cares so much &gives you every opportunity to succeed. Teaches material clearly & makes sure everyone understands before he moves on. Never makes you feel badly for asking any question. Show up, DO THE HOMEWORK & participate-Easy A. Gives great study guides! You will not regret taking him!
Overall professor Soto is a good professor, however I thought that his grading on the tests were a little harsh. A lot of times, you would work on a problem and write a lot and he'd still not give partial credit. He is, however, a very caring and funny professor. He also gives a good amount of homework using WileyPlus.
This class made me enjoy learning math again. Professor Soto is a master at his job. He is very kind and helpful, and makes sure that everyone understands every lecture. There is a decent amount of homework, but none of it is very difficult or time-consuming. I would recommend his classes for any level of math.
Professor Soto has great lectures, he makes calculus not boring. There isn't that much homework, quizzes are very easy and tests are fair. There has never been a gotcha/surprise question on a test. Soto told the class he would drop your lowest grade and replace with final. He backed out on day of final, reason: "to incentivize us to not drop class
Calculus is a challenging subject but Soto made it clear and understandable. Lectures are funny, and he tells stories when he sees that people are bored with math. He values in-class participation and will call on you in the middle of class so if you dislike that, it might be best to pick a seat in the middle or back rows of the class.
Professor Soto's class was the hardest class I have taken. I had a private tutor and was at his office hours and I still barely passed. If you put the time to talk to him 1-1 he truly cares for your success and will do whatever he can but beware this class is not an easy A. Lots of homework that's not worth a lot. Extremely difficult exams.
Prof Soto is a good teacher but he is pretty tough. He gives a lot of homework (close to daily) and he doesn't give any extra credit. Most of your grades are based on the tests and final, but he does give you the option to replace your lowest test grade with your final grade. Study and do the work and you should be fine, but his class is very tough
Took his calc 2 class over the summer. Can't explain topics in a clear & concise way, often lectures feel disorganized. He tends to overcomplicate topics with deep dives into the proof and anecdotal parts. Tests are very easy and are often problems taken from the HW. Overall a super kind and caring professor, but not great at explaining topics.
Never felt the need to write one of these but I felt mislead by the honesty of these reviews. A total summary of this class is 5 tests with 5 free response problems. The homework is not collected but consider that there is less of an incentive to do the 10-15 questions given almost daily. Lecture was based on book examples. Very self-study heavy.
Redundancy as a person. You will waste weeks of your life covering content you already covered in Algebra. When he's done belittling the entire class you are then ready for a lengthy lecture on why the youth doesn't want to work hard. Trig is a great subject, this is a terrible professor.
This professor is amazing, it's obvious he loves his job, which makes learning fun. He cares about his students and moves at their pace. Didn't collect homework but his tests were based completely off the homework, usually the exact same problems. He makes the concepts easy to understand and very clear. All you have to do in his class is study.
Exam Heavy. Teaching style is good, but gets side tracked and it'll feel like you gotta teach yourself. Homework comes with the purchase of the book. Attendance was mandatory in the beginning, not the ending. Good luck!
Lectures are good, but sometimes disorganized. No homework, so LOTS of self teaching. Very helpful during office hours and likes when students show they are putting in the work. Provides study guides that are exactly like the exams. Very lenient as long as you talk to him. Grade was based on 5 tests and a final exam.
He takes multiple days for one section. Homework is online and prefers writing on the board. He has about 4-5 tests which are pretty straight forward. We were always behind and did not finish the curriculum planned by the end of the semester. He's pretty nice though and is willing to find a new way of explaining things if you dont understand.
Soto was really good at teaching the material IMO!! Our teacher got swapped in the middle of the semester for some reason so I only took him for half a semester but I actually was able to understand stats. Bc of the situation, our final was just a worksheet we all did together so an easy A but I can't speak for students who took a full sem. w/ him
All the Quizzes are memorization-based, homework is light work, and projects are simple and followed by a format. Overall, easy class, would recommend it to others.
Professor Soto makes a tough subject manageable. Lectures are engaging, and he's happy to explain things differently if needed. The workload is reasonable, and Unstuck ai was a game-changer for exam prep.
Explains material well. Attendance was mandatory for the first few weeks but didn't care afterward. Tests were 70% of our grade. Replaces lowest test with final. His tests are simple easy questions (usually 4-5 questions), super similar to HW problems/study guides, but he is a very harsh grader and will take off lots of points for simple mistakes.
Good teacher who knows how to engage students. Cares about students and is knowledgeable about the subject. Provides study guides very similar to the tests given, so studying is straightforward if willing to put in time. Homework is online and almost daily and takes 1-3 hours to complete later in the semester.
No HW, grade is entirely on 4 tests and 1 final (good or a bad thing depending on your work habits). Clear about what's going to be on each test and if you come in feeling comfortable with the practice problems and material, the class should be easy. Half of our final was take-home, final replaced our lowest test. Good guy, wants you to succeed.
Prof. Soto is the best teacher to take Stats with! I took his class Fall 2023. He explains hard math probs & Statkey so easily. He made me understand & like math for the first time! The tests are similar to textbook probs, HW is easy, make sure to do the projects correctly & ask for his help. He's an amazing professor, take him if you want an A!!!
Grade is based purely off 4 exams plus a final (100 points each, typically 5 questions). Write down absolutely everything he does on the board as test questions will be very identical to what is done in class. He gives optional book questions (but may go over it in class) which may be on the exam but I was just fine by paying attention in lecture.
Amazing professor, explains everything in his lectures and answers all the questions. Won't move on until everyone understand the concept and his tests are very much like hw and he is a fair grader. Material of calc 3 is hard, but he teaches it very well. Went to his office hours many times, and he not only helped me in math, but also in life.10/10
10% attendance, 20% Final, 70% on four tests should tell you to drop. Only lets his HW program take 3 tries on a question before booting you from it. Talks about ideas of a concept, does not elucidate further. One of those teachers that wants everything to be tough just because that's his idea of teaching. Be prepared to learn from others.
No review of math and just jumped right in as if we had been studying for summer. He looked at us dead in the eyes and said "I know you all learn from Kahn academy" when questioning us if his lectures were actually helpful. He puts in the bare minimum in terms of effort and explanation, expects astounding results even in ideas not yet introduced.
Show up everyday, do the homework, and MAKE SURE YOU DO THE STUDY GUIDE(exact questions different numbers). He does curve scores. If you don't go to class, don't enroll with him. He's super funny I respected him a lot, he wants you to learn.
