Although I think David is a very interesting and great person, this class is really set up for students who are not psych majors. The material is really dry and is more like a review of Psy306, going over different theorists that all of the psych students have learned about many times before. I would suggest waiting for Geri Olsen to teach it.

i agree with most comments already, hes a nice guy but has a boring teaching style, he just goes through a list of about 10 theorists and stands in front of the class and talks about the theory- boring! two 5page papers(not hard just follow directions of exactly what HE wants) and final is coming up with your own theory of personality

You basically never have to go to class except for test days and the days you turn in papers that are for credit/no credit. He reads stright from the book. The only thing he does in class is say which paragraphs you need to know for sure. Very easy class. Boring and pointless discussions with a partner in the middle of classes.

if you are a decent note taker, you don't need to buy the $100 book. he reads everything from the book, so take notes on what he says and that's basically what is on the test. he also has a VERY easy grading scale. just pay attention during class and you'll do very well. he's a very interesting professor.

Second time I have taken him, same format as 250. Lectures for about an hour an a half then break into small groups to talk (run by Ta's) Two easy papers, four tests. If you go to lecture, take notes, and review before the test you'll pass. Pretty easy. Nice. Tries to crack jokes but often repeats the same ones and tells many of the same stories.

Show up to class, doesn't post lectures online and tests are exactly the info on lectures. Just write whats on the screen, goes fast so use a laptop. Gives you pages to read, if you want an A read but if not you easily get a B without reading. Only few questions on test based on the book. 4 tests, two easy papers. Lectures then small groups.

Sowerby was a dope professor. Take him for sure. In psy 250 we were graded on 4 multiple choice exams and 2 papers/presentations. He curves all the exams. I took the 7-9:45pm class and we never really ended early. This class was an easy A though. Show up and take good notes. Presentations aren't bad- they're in front of your weekly small groups :)

Very easy class, tests are curved to be an A- average, so if you pay attention in the class, I don't see how you could fail. he does a decent job teaching the material by using examples, but he will constantly go on tirades about spiritual pseudoscience regarding things like intuition and ESP. Surprised he's qualified to be a professor.

He is the nicest teacher I have ever had. He is VERY willing to help you out if you aren't doing well (which is impossible in this class) he even puts page numbers from the book with the material that will be on the test up at the end of lectures. I love this class.

I have taken 2 of his classes. Both were very easy. For PSY490 Humanistic, Exstential&Transp. Psy, he gives a few short lectures a week to watch at your own pace. Gave 2 exams, as long as you take notes on the lectures, you will have the answers. 2 presentations through phone call with just him, 10 minutes long. Easy grader. Very straight forward

Very interesting material, you can tell he loves what he's teaching. He makes difficult concepts easier to understand and connects them to daily life. Only thing is that he's not the most energetic professor, so a four-hour class during dinner time is boring at times. Wish there were some small assignments so I didn't stress about the few so much.

David Sowerby was awesome. He is a very nice guy who genuinely wants his students to succeed. The class is very easy, enjoyable, and interesting. There are no assignments, just tests and one paper that you can submit as many times as you want until you get a score you are happy with. This class is a great choice for a GE requirement.

Would highly recommend if you need an easy GE to balance out your schedule. The entire grade is based off of 4 tests and 1 paper. The tests are online 20 point multiple choice and all the answers are on his class slides which he posts to canvas upfront. The paper is a bit time consuming but he lets you resubmit it as many times as you want. Easy A
