He was so super fun! I recommend him to anyone. He's as tall as a horse and walks ten times faster when taking you on field trips around campus.
What a great teacher. He clearly is passionate about design and treats his students as adults. He is a very interesting guy and makes class fun with lots of creative projects and hands-on work. He is very well-qualified to teach and class is never boring. He is very open to helping kids who can't draw very well. Loved this class and loved the teach
Professor Spooner is a great guy. He's super helpful and is really passionate about the subject. His class is easy and interesting. He only gives two tests, both of which are open book and open note. The projects assigned are fun and meant to boost your grade, if you turn them in. Take this class!
Professor Spooner is a great guy. He loves his students and just wants to help. He will go above and beyond to make sure you're okay. He knows what students enjoy and wants the best for them. He is very supportive and all around great person. Wish there were more teachers like him
I loved having Professor Spooner as a co-professor for this class, alongside Cecile Martin. Spooner balanced out Martin's crazy and artistic antics. He is easy to talk to and has a great open door policy as an advisor and a professor. I can't wait to have him again. You don't have an option of who to take, but Spooner is the bomb, hands down!
Interesting lectures. Only 2 tests but they're open-book and open-notes (even electronic notes), so getting a good grade wasn't difficult. Eventually, the class persuaded me to add design as a majorminor.
He taught my FYOS class on the Experience of Place. He really cares about his students and wants you to learn about how a place can have a sense of place to you and what that means. There are projects every week but its nothing too bad. He takes you out of the classroom and onto north campus a lot which is a good change.
Spooner is great, I took him this semester and he is very passionate about what he does. I think he really knows what he is talking about, plus the tests are open note which is a HUGE PLUS! I would highly recommend
He is SO passionate about he does. The class is a pretty easy A, with 2 open note tests and no final. Little homework, but completed and done properly earns a 95. Pop quizzes are not often but do happen and are graded out of 100 so go to class. Have to get a 95 or above for the full A which is hard if you do not do well on the quizzes. AMAZING!!!!
Spooner is a really nice guy who is very passionate about his work. Take thorough notes in class and read the textbook, any material presented in either form is fair game on the open note tests.
HE IS THE BEST! he is funny and really interesting in his lectures. Tuesdays were typically lectures and thursdays were typically participation work. You should show up for both because participation is 50% and tests are open-book. Great class.
The class is determined by two tests and a handful of pop quizzes and activities. Tests are open note, but don't let that fool you, questions can be really specific. Need a 95 to get an A which is really high. The material is somewhat boring, almost every class is a powerpoint lecture. Spooner seems like a knowledgeable and nice guy.
Really easy and interesting class, but you have to go to class. If you skip one or two classes that's a possibility of missing a pop quiz (which are usually very easy) and a lot of information on the test. Just take as many notes as you can during lectures because ANYTHING can be on the tests and they are open note. Overall a fantastic teacher.
Professor Spooner is one of the best professors I have had at UGA, his class consists of participation assignments and 2 tests both of which are open note. Show up to class and take specific notes as the tests can be pretty specific and he gives pop quizzes sometimes (mostly on Thursdays).
GO TO CLASS. We had 12 assignments (HW and pop quizzes- very easy, do them, pay attention and you get 100). The other half of our grade was 2 open note tests, but they ARE so specific- write everything he says and draw the pictures and include the words!! He says to read the book before but most questions come from lecture so the book is up to you
Attendance wasn't mandatory but you should go to class as there are pop quizzes and are worth 50% of your grade. There are 2 tests which are open notes HIGHLY recommend you take notes and listen to lectures. The lectures are boring if you aren't in the Landscape program but to get an A you must take notes. Each test is worth 25% and 95 is an A.
He is an amazing professor. He really enjoys teaching and you can tell. So long as you go to class, pay attention, and take some notes you will pass. There are some homework assignments and pop quizzes, but they are super easy. I really enjoyed going to the class and Spooner is a great professor, I would recommend anyone to take him.
One of the best professors I have ever taken. A very easy class on an entertaining topic. Even if you are not in the major, I recommend this as an elective. He is so kind, gives great lectures and gets you excited about the topic. Open notes tests are so easy if you take pretty good notes in class.
Spooner is so passionate about his work that it is truly inspirational. I took his "Experience of Place" FYOS and it was so fun. We walked around campus looking at buildings and talking about cool places we've all been. There was weekly homework, but nothing time consuming-- only a completion grade. I don't think he ever took attendance.
Dr. Spooner is an incredible teacher. He truly cares about his students and even offers to help with anything you need outside of his class. You learn a lot, and I think anyone would find this course interesting. There are small projects for homework each week but I actually found them to be stress-relieving. My favorite class. Take this seminar!!
I'm not even a landscape major, but I really enjoyed Spooner's class. He is so passionate about landscape design and he makes the material interesting. It really changes the way you think about design. There are 2 open note tests, each coming straight out of the lectures, a handful of quizzes (straight out of lectures), and a few easy assignments.
Show up to class, because he covers the textbook as well as some content from guest lecturers that he does not post on eLC. He is a very caring, passionate professor.
Spooner is a very nice, caring, and inspirational professor. He is very passionate about what he does and that itself makes the class more enjoyable. However, I did attend every lecture, took thorough notes, and still did not receive As on any tests. I thought that some test questions were way too specific for how fast he talks. Easy A- hard A.
Genuinely such a kind and caring person. Is very passionate about his students and design and make you want to love it too. I took his "Experience of Place" seminar and it truly made me think about my surroundings differently. The weekly homeworks were fun, creative, and easy. Considered switching my major to landscape design because of him.
super nice and loves architecture, my class was a quiet bunch and I could tell he wished he could have gotten to know his students more personally but corona made us super distanced in class. TAKE HIM
He is a good lecturer and consolidates the material very well. He used many interesting examples and I thoroughly enjoyed the discussions about integrating the built environment into the natural environment as best we can. I loved his clear passion for LA. If you take good notes from the lecture you can get away with just skimming the chapters.
He is super chill professor. You should take notes in class because his slides consist of only images and no text. He curves the exams if he finds that most of the class missed a particular question.
Professor Spooner was such a good teacher and all around person. He was really adamant about introducing incoming freshman to campus and Athens in general. He had weekly assignments, but they are easy and honestly fun to do. At the end of the course, there is a presentation but it's really just putting everything you learned into one thing. SO GOOD
Super easy professor, passionate about Landscape Architecture which makes the class more enjoyable. Had the class during COVID so I had the option to do it all online. Only one lecture a week and either a short quiz or assignment at the end of the week. Just take thorough notes and you'll be good
Spooner is a great professor - he's super chill and his material is pretty straight to the point. There's typically an assignment and/or quiz at the end of each week and they're pretty easy. The tests are oddly specific which kinda sucked. Overall a good class and the material makes you really think.
Greatest professor ever. Super kind and understanding. I took him during Thrive and don't regret it. The class is super interesting and you learn a lot. Take this Class!
I absolutely love this guy. I am taking LAND1500 right now and am on track for an A+. He is seriously a gem. Tests are online right now and there are weekly/bi-weekly assignments but he grades them super easy so don't stress. He is an excellent teacher I would recommend him as a professor to ANYONE!!!! Seriously can't stress enough how good he is.
This professor is amazing. If you need a humanities credit definitely take him. Cares about his students and makes class really interesting.
Warning: if you don't want the stress of having to consider another career (landscape architecture), then don't take this class. I changed my major to this mainly because of this guy. Great prof. Genuinely cares about the subject. Highly recommend.
One of my favorite professors I've had! You definitely need to pay attention during lectures and take detailed notes because the tests and quizzes cover exactly what you learn in class. Assignments are pretty fun and easy. I would 100% take it again. Also, this class almost made me switch my major to landscape architecture.
He is super nice. You can tell that he really cares about what he is teaching. The class was super interesting and I almost changed my major because of him. You definitely want to show up to class and pay close attention. All his quizzes and test are based off exactly what he says in class. The assignments were super simple as well.
AMAZING TEACHER!!!! If you go to class you can get easy As on the quizzes and 2 tests. He is the best- so funny, caring, and so passionate about Landscape architecture even if you're not in that major - im not. One of the best teachers at UGA and such an easy and interesting class if you show up.
He is a great professor and really cares about his students. The only problem with this class is that his tests did not really match up with what he taught and they were very specific. Otherwise, his class is really interesting!
Professor Spooner is extremely chill and friendly. He is very understanding. He has a ton of passion for his profession. Being in his class was simply relaxing.
This is the nicest professor ever. He really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. He loves landscape architecture which makes his lectures better. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go to class to know the info for the tests. I'm not a landscape major and just took this class for a credit and do not regret it... TAKE HIM!
He is a very nice professor but his class is way too difficult to be a 1000 level class. There is no extra credit and test/quizzes are difficult. Also personally the material was very boring and hard to sit through. NOT AN EASY A!
Passionate but tough. Test questions are class-specific examples, and the slides he posts only have a picture. The tests are hard and often feel like they don't line up with the lectures. You don't need to purchase the textbook, attending lecture is what matters. You have several quizzes and assignments but the 2 exams weigh 50%. Not an easy A.
Prof Spooner is a real gem in the CED. If you need an upper level elective I highly recommend taking his photography class. He brings such a deep knowledge and appreciation for landscape photography, and introduces you to so many great photographers. He also helps you become a great photographer yourself, and is always there to help and support.
Spooner is a great professor, and his class is quite easy if you show up, pay attention, and take notes. All tests and quizzes are open note, and there was no cumulative final.
I loved being in Spooner's class. The lectures are pretty interesting and tests and quizzes are open note/ book. He says you need the textbook but you can find it online and we barely use in class. As long as you pay attention during lecture you will be more than fine.
Very very easy IF you attend his lectures and take notes. His tests are very meticulous about the information he talks about in class so I would not miss lecture days (case study days are okay to miss, but try not to). That being said, he is such a kind professor and genuinely so interesting to talk to. Almost changed my major. Great guy.
The only thing that I didnt really like about this class was the fact that you really had to pay attention every second because youll miss the notes since he only has one word slides. Class is open-note which is nice, but again you need to take good notes.
If you need a humanities credit, take him. If you go to the lectures that have quizzes associated with them at the end, you'll get a 100- just listen in class and take notes that day. The 5-point assignments are easy and if you turn them in and follow directions you'll get a 100. Hate how a 94 or above is an A and not a 90+. Tests are hard- got B's
You have to take good notes, but hes a very good professor who is passionate about his subject. Good grades are very attainable with some effort!
Professor Spooner is very passionate about landscape architecture and makes that very obvious. He genuinely cares for his students and is always quick to respond to emails and meet outside of class. This class is lecture heavy, but as long as you attend the lectures and take good notes, you will get an A.
Interesting class, gave me a new perspective on how I view buildings and places. Like an easy, chill version of architecture. We didn't have to give a presentation in front of class because of time constraints, but in most years you do (I would have avoided this class then since I'm anxious). Lots of other interesting FYOS classes though
Mr. Spooner is one of the best professors that UGA has to offer! He was my absolute favorite professor that I took this semester and he really cares about the subject. He makes sure that everyone understands the content and ensures everyones success. All quizzes and tests are open note and the homework is very easy. I can't sing his praises enough!
The assignments are simple and so are the quizzes as long as you read the textbook chapters. I got A's on both of the tests and I didn't really go to class. Just make sure you follow along and read all the course materials and you will be fine. He's a a really good professor.
Professor Spooner is the sweetest man. He is so passionate about what he does and although there is some work, if you just do it you are almost guaranteed a 100. He really really cares about his students, wants to know you and your name, and I wish I could take him again. Also cancelled class a few times.
Awesome Professor! Really interesting topics and makes everything very easy to understand! All test and quizzes are open note and only 5 other assignments all semester! 100% recommend
You have to come to each class to take notes for the quizzes and exams, but he makes each lecture interesting and worth going to. He points out specific points to remember in his PowerPoints. I changed my major to landscape because of him! 10/10
Professor Spooner makes landscape architecture interesting and understandable. There is a textbook, but if you go to class then that is not necessary to rent. There are 8 quizzes that are 5 points each and not difficult at all if you attend class, and there are 6 assignments. The class has two exams and no final so if you can, take this course!
This professor is so nice. I'm not someone who works in his field but all his lectures were accessible to people outside of the field and he was very understanding of like frustrations you had with the course. His class is so relaxing and the lectures can be really interesting 10/10
Just finished up LAND 1500E and absolutely loved learning the content. I never felt too stressed despite the fast pace of the class, and felt like Prof. Spooner gave a reasonable amount of assignments and quizzes/tests. I also appreciate his straightforward lectures and philosophy of not trying to "trick" us with questions on tests and quizzes!
I loved Dr. Spooner and LAND 1500! He keeps the material interesting for what it is and tests/quizzes are all taken outside of class open note and open book. If you go to class and have notes the assessments aren't bad. I'd recommend taking notes with another person/ppl because he says a lot in his lectures. Attendance not mandatory big plus.
Super easy class! If you do all the assignments (not hard at all), then you'll have an A+ in the class. Really interesting class that brought in new perspectives about how we view the architecture around us! No final, midterm, and exams.
Love Prof. Spooners 1500 class. Wish all my teachers had his enthusiasm. Would take again.
Dr. Spooner is an amazing professor and I loved his class. He grades leniently and assignments are completion grades. He gives 8 five-question quizzes to take after class to make sure you go, and they are all basically just repeating what he said. Make sure to do the assignments though because there are not many so missing one can hurt your grade.
Spooner is a great prof who you can tell is very passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches. The class and lectures do move at a somewhat fast pace so try and take notes with a friend. There's a textbook but it you attend class it's not needed. Most assignments are completion, and quiz/exams are all open note with straightforward questions.
I only took this class just to receive credit in a core area and it was a very flexible class. Attendance is not mandatory but I strongly encourage you to attend class because everything he says in his lectures are not posted to elc and everything he says will be on the quizzes and exams. If you are a good note taker definitely take the class.
Very good professor in an interesting class. If you show up to the lecture classes and take good notes, this class is an easy A.
he is an absolute king
All time champion professor. Amazing lectures and cares about his students. Exams can be a little difficult, but he explains all questions the next day. Responds quickly to emails and wants to help you.
Prof. Spooner was hands down the best teacher i've ever had. He is incredibly caring and wants to know about his students and their stories. I took his seminar class which was so eye-opening and genuinely fun. He always told us that our stress levels in the class should never go above a 1/10 in his class and I believe that to be true. TAKE HIM!
He is an amazing respect professor. Always answered question after class and outside of it. He cares about his students and is soo passionate about his teaching. Lectures are engaging and assignments are a breeze. Two tests both open note and online. Attend lectures to take notes, he posts PowerPoints but what he says in class is on the tests.
Spooner is an awesome professor. He makes everything extremely clear. As long as you go to class and pay attention to what he's saying, you'll get an A. The quizzes are not bad if you take notes or even just listen. He responds to emails super fast too
LAND1500 is such a pleasant course to have in your schedule if you're a busy student, this professor is genuinely such a breath of fresh air. the exams are open note / open book, the quizzes and homework are extremely clear criteria. he's going to tell you exactly what he wants in your responses, and the homework is actually fun. recommend!
Incredible professor. Take his class! Content was easy yet incredibly informative and thought-provoking. Always cared about the "mood of the room" and made sure to check in with students often. My major is not anywhere near this subject, but I would take it again in a heartbeat.
Professor spooner is a great professor and has fair assignments but if you do not come to class you will not do well. He does not provide any information outside of his lectures. What he says in his lectures is exactly whats on the quizzes and tests, and if you don't get As on them, you wont get an A or A- overall in the class.
Amazing professor. If you're looking for an easy arts credit take this class. Attend class because quizzes are directly from the lecture and what he posts on eLC is just photos that he talks about in class. Make sure you complete all of the assignments and quizzes. Tests are also what he says in class. Textbook can be found free online
assignments and quizzes are simple and straightforward but content and lectures are intense.
Spooner is a legend. This class was advertised to me as a super easy A class, but in reality you do have to do a good amount of work to get an A. Very fun class and just stay on top of things and you'll be fine. Clutch up on tests and ask Spooner questions bc he's a cool guy.
If you go to class and listen you'll be fine. I recommend having notes from someone from the prior year. If you miss class you will not do well. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go to class. He doesn't have many points in gradebook.
Spooner is an amazing professor and is clearly very knowledgeable about what he's talking about! He makes very clear what is to be remembered for quizzes/tests during lectures. Attendance isn't counted but his slides on their own aren't very substantial so attendance is encouraged. He is very approachable and encourages discussion.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! As a Bio major in Franklin I needed this course as a credit and it was one of the best decisions I made. You definitely need to go to class to take notes, especially on the days you have quizzes but if you're there you will get full points. Every quiz and exam is at home open note and super easy if you take notes!!
Literally all you have to do in his class to get an A is show up. Listen to his lectures (which are super interesting), do the assignments, and you'll be just fine. Super interesting guy, very understanding about missing quizzes and such. Take him if you can!
It was great having Mr. Spooner this semester! He's a funny guy and makes the lectures so interesting! Never had to worry about this class and the the exams were take-home! Easy 5 question quizzes sometimes, and quick assignments. I wish I could take him again! You do have to come to class though for notes but he makes it worth it!
Very interesting class with great lectures, but be sure to come to class and study for the exams if you want a good grade.
I couldn't recommend this FYOS more. It's based out of the college of environmental design. Prof Spooner cares about his students and makes the class very fun given you're interested in the topic. Any major can take the class but I would definitely recommend it for anyone undecided as Landscape Architecture is a really cool career to explore.
Professor Spooner is AMAZING! He genuinely cares for his students and makes his class enjoyable. I didn't know anything about landscape architecture before the class, but he made it so interesting! Weekly assignments that took maybe 10 minutes. I will miss his class and having him as a professor next semester.
Dr. Spooner is great!! He's passionate about the material and lectures are interesting. He doesn't take attendance, but the slides are mostly pictures, so you have to go to class and take detailed notes to know the info for the quizzes and exams. You can do well w/o reading the textbook, but he'll include niche details occasionally.
Wonderful professor. Lectures were great but you HAVE to pay attention and take great notes to do well on the reading quizzes and tests. The textbook is very helpful so I recommend getting it and actually reading it. Tests are open note so if you have great notes you'll do well.
The quizzes are very difficult if you miss class that day, so make sure to be there for those classes. Taking good notes is important to do well in class. I also used the textbook for the exams because they are open note and sometimes refer to things directly from the textbook/things he says in class that you would not be able to look up.
would give this man the world. LOVE HIM. would recommend this class to anyone bc the class is easy, interesting, and spooner is so cool. I would talk to him after class a lot and even about the election after the results lol. he also gladly wrote me letter of rec after I asked bc I would chat after class
An amazing prof!! He's so kind and loves to teach. He's very educated and makes you want to listen to his words. He sets his class up to be easy as it is a LAND class that the majority are taking as an elective. I would love to take one of his classes again.
He is a great lecturer and very interesting class. There are very few assignments so you can't miss any assignments. Slides are just pictures so you have to pay attention in class or you won't get a good grade. Overall test are easy but there very specific to his lecture if you miss you will get wrong
There is textbook, but I didnt read and did good. He is clearly passionate about the class. There are open note two tests. The quizzes and assignments are very manageable.
Very nice teacher and super easy intro class. Needed an art/humanities credit and happy I took this class. Spooner is a cool guy and runs a super good class. Idk why people are saying attendance is mandatory, it's not. Didn't go to class and got an A. Take.
Professor Spooner's lectures are interesting. The class is not a total breeze. I went to every lecture but I still found tests and quizzes to be a bit difficult. Tests and quizzes are all online+open note, but questions can be ultra-specific and relate to a very niche topic from lecture. Assignments are easy. He also gives EC.
Spooner is amazing and genuinely teaches the class in a way that's engaging to even non-LA majors. Attendance isn't mandatory but you should show up because quiz/test questions can be over VERY niche topics discussed in class. Assignments are easy 100's and lowkey fun to do. There's only two exams though. I wish I could take another class with him.
Doesn't record his lectures, and while attendance is mandatory (per the syllabus), you don't get penalized for not attending. Make sure you go, though, because his slideshows are NOT self-study friendly! Everything is open note, but his grading is meticulous as a result. Make sure to follow every requirement on assignments!! 2 exams, 6 ass., 8 quiz
TAKE THIS CLASS! Prof. Spooner is amazing, an easy grader, homework and tests are easy and open note. Just make sure you attend EVERY class because everything he says will be on the exams. 2 exams, easy/fun homework. He knows most students taking this aren't majoring in it so he keeps everything easy. Also a very interesting class/ a few quizzes.
GO TO CLASS!!!! This is a really easy class and it is super tempting to skip because everything is online BUT QUIZ QUESTIONS ARE SPECIFIC TO CLASS. They are so random like "in this lecture, what did I say?". Super nice guy too and passionate about what hes teaching. Weekly ish quizes and assignemts are easy. only two exams. no final.
Professor Spooner was amazing. The tests and quizzes are VERY lecture dependent, but if you take good notes, you will do well. All tests are remote/open-note. He doesn't take attendance but you need to go to class for a good grade. Assignments are lowkey fun. He is a great guy that loves his job and makes his class enjoyable. 100% recommend!
Very passionate about his work. Must go to class to pass. Must listen and take notes during lectures. Great teacher who loves his job.
