An Honors class, but VERY interesting and applicable to daily life. He teaches basic information that most college grads don't even know about business. very helpful information. pretty easy for an honors class; very little homework. very fun prof.
Very easy Honors class. He focuses on real-life business, not at all on theory. Class is very fun. Easy homework, no exams. Has good experience in the business world and is an all-round fun guy.
By far the best business professor I've had to date. Talks daily about current events that are relative to what you're learning to make concepts applicable. Appears stern, but appreciates hard-working students--and yes, he knows who they are. Work hard and do what he asks, and you'll be fine.
easiest honors class. if you get on his good side by participating, he's great. otherwise watch out!
Really awesome professor as long as you get on his good side.
Excellent professor! By far the best professor I have had to date. He lives what he teaches every day of the week, and if you pay attention, he will have you prepared for the real world. Takes the time to teach this class on his lunch hour, and generally cares about the students. Take his class if you have the opportunity.
A successful businessman in his own right, Mr. Steele helps his students understand the world of business in a way that most students never get a chance to.
He is prideful and largely teaches us nothing very important- things most people know. I have learned far less in his class than i could have in a class where the professor was prepared.
Mr. Steele rarely teaches out of the textbook, instead he uses IBJ and other business media outlets. He is very stern, and cusses a good amount during lecture. For the whole semester we did indiana companies reports the vast majority of the semester instead of getting lectures. He is a liar about extra credit.
Professor Steele is an excellent professor. He teaches in a very practical way applying his own experience as an added bonus to the class. Not only is he extremely passionate, but very intelligent and street smart. I had the opportunity to travel to NYC and will never forget the learning experience. Definitely take Mr. Steele!
Prof. Steele is the most influential professor I've ever had. He brings real world experience to the classroom that you can't get in a book. He is passionate about his students. If you show initiative, he is an amazing resource and mentor. He even leads an amazing trip to New York City where you visit the NYSE and NASDAQ. Definitely recommend!
This is one of the best classes to prepare you for the rest of what Kelley has to offer. Steele covers a wide array of the business world and teaches REAL world knowledge not just fluffy textbook material. Most of all he will do everything he can for students to succeed and prosper. This class also helps open the doors to future opportunities.
This professor is the best you will ever have. He uses his real-world experience to enhance the lessons taught in class. All assignments are relevant to what's going on in the real world, real-time. This is not a class you can slack off in.
This teacher understands the topic he is teaching really well and offers a considerable amount of time to offer assistance. He is also very critical on students work and will find any small format flaw. Will be honest about your performance bad and good. Not a traditional teacher but focuses on class discussions and real world implications.
Mr. Steele's course has been my best experience in the Kelley School of Business. His interest in preparing today's youth for the real world is extremely evident. He is willing to help anyone who works hard, and exhibits genuine interest in improving themselves. Mr. Steele provided some of the most interesting and useful knowledge I have learned.
Serious yet genuine professor, play off comedy to lighten class. Take all the advice he gives you, and he'll give you plenty and all of it will help you succeed. Knows who is dedicated and who goes through the motions. Wall Street trip offered will motivate you all through college, very inspiring. Be serious when you sign up. Real life info taught.
Good teacher, really cares about students and gives great real world advice during office hours.
Professor Steele uses real world business knowledge to teach his students, and if the student takes to heart his advice they will not only do well in this class, but in the real world as well. I would definitely recommend this professor!
Mr Steele is a really passionate businessman. His class requires more communication skills. One of the most valuable things offered in his class will be the New York Financial learning Trip. You got the chance to go to NYSE and nasdaq trading floors and opening bells. It was really exciting and rewarding.
This man's lessons go far beyond the classroom. I couldn't give him a higher recommendation. He genuinely cares about each of his students and loves to see them succeed. He made me switch my major to business!
David Steele is one of the best professors I have ever had the privilege of learning from. This class is a must for all business and prospective business majors. You will learn the fundamentals of business in a real world application. And you will be learning from a Professional with lots of experience! Learn from him while you can! Amazing!!!!
I learned a lot in both of these classes. If you are prepared for class meetings and do your work, expect to get a lot out of these courses. Explore Entrepreneurship (BUS-W 212) was one of the best I have taken - enjoyable, informative, and highly translatable. I appreciate his willingness to connect with and mentor students outside of class.
Professor Steele is an amazing professor. Not only does he posses a vast knowledge of business, but he is also the most helpful mentor you will ever find. He always takes the time to meet with students, even on weekends and weeknights. One of my favorite professors to date, I will always look up to him as a mentor.
Great teacher and mentor. Mr. Steele is an asset to the Kelley School of Business. I learned more about running a business from his class than any other so far. What you get out of the class is what you put into the class. If you can, go on the trip to NYC to see the NYSE, Nasdaq, and Museum of American Finance.
Exploring Entrepreneurship is an excellent course for anyone interested in starting a business. No prior business knowledge is required, just some motivation to learn. Through in class lectures and outside vistits you get a great look at the world of start-ups. Prof. Steele is very knowledgeable and always willing help and share his expertise.
David Steele is an exceptional instructor. He infuses professional experience and unique insight into his teachings in a way that is unparalleled in business school. I strongly recommend learning from him if you have the opportunity. Stay after class to chat and come to his office hours if possible as well.
He really wants you to succeed , if you want to start your own business, he will help you and encourage you to pursue your dreams, and give you the skills to do so! If you aren't doing your work and don't care about the class, then he can tell and you won't get anything out of it, apply yourself and he will take time out of his day to help you.
It's a challenging class, but it will clarify any misconceptions about business you have going in. Mr. Steele goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the content, and to get you involved in the class/business. I highly recommend him.
I took his Exploring Entrepreneurship and it was one of the most beneficial classes I have ever taken. Super knowledgeable and enthusiastic professor in and outside the classroom. I would highly recommend taking a class with this great professor.
Mr. Steele's honors business class was the most inspiring class I have ever taken. He never reads the textbook in class, he considers that supplemental and to be done on our own time. All of his lessons are based on his own knowledge and experiences. They have taken much further in my current internship than anything I learned from a book.
Mr. Steele offers valuable advice and consultation outside of the classroom on a weekly basis. His class prepares students with a variety of skills that will greatly enhance their chances of success in the business world. His engaging lectures derive from his many years of experience as a successful entrepreneur. I highly recommend this class.
Mr. Steele is a successful businessman, but he does not have time to be both a businessman and a professor. He is a nice guy who will share a lot of advice with you. However, I do not like his teaching style. There is little structure to the course. He is super intimidating. I'm most excited about going to NYC with the class. Good Luck with Steele!
Professor Steele is one of the most caring, challenging, and knowledgeable professors at Kelley. He expects much from students; however, his class truly prepares you for the "real world" of business. Take advantage of his office hours because he is an excellent professor who wants to see his students excel both inside and outside the classroom.
Professor Steele is great! He is very knowledgeable & challenges each student to meet their full potential. He relates each topic to real world experience allowing for a better understanding of the material. I highly recommend taking Professor Steele for this class as well as BUS-W212. Both are great opportunities with a fantastic professor.
Steele is a really nice guy. He's really fair too, just participate, submit your weekly reports, read the required material for the tests, and you'll definitely get an A.
He takes pride in his students' work and is there for support and encouragement at every step of the way.
Mr. Steele is a fantastic professor! This class helped me become more prepared for my business classes. His constant feedback and encouragement are extremely beneficial. He genuinely cares about his students' success.
Professor Steele treats you like a grown up not like a little kid. He prepares you for what he expects out of you. He knows how to teach this subject and relates it you as much as he can. i would take his class again.
Professor Steele has been one of the most influential professors of my college career. I have only had one class with him, but he has continued to help develop me as a business professional outside the classroom. If you have a chance to take a class with him, DO IT! His class taught me more about the real-world of business than any other class.
I had prof Steele for x100 and w212 and he has been the best college professor I have had during my academic career. He is passionate about business and teaches because he wants to and enjoys doing it. He incorporates a lot of real life application in his classes and expects students to do their best. He really cares about his students. Great guy!
Professor Steele is the real deal. He has walked the walk and will teach you what you need to know to be successful in the real world. He expects you to come to class prepared and participate as all professors should. will do anything he can to help students due to his genuine care for students to succeed in business and in life.
I had Prof. Steele for Bus W-311 which is a great course and the way he teaches it is very helpful. If you are looking to be an entrepreneur then this is the class to take. He will give great insight during lectures on the in's and outs of the business world and will make you work for your grade. This class will make you a better business student.
Professor Steele is by far the best professor I had at Kelley. He was very helpful and wants nothing but the best for his students. If you put in the work and show effort you will get an A and if you communicate with him outside of class you will gain some much knowledge. He helped me become a better student and has encouraged me to follow my dream
I suggest everyone take at least one of his classes just to see the way he works. It's inspiring. He is dedicated to the success of his students but you also have to put in the effort.
David Steele is a great teacher. His Entrepreneurship class was amazing! I am glad I took it. He teaches real life examples and not what is just in the textbook. He is very helpful and wants to see his students succeed. I would recommend everyone that is interested in learning more about Entrepreneurship to take BUSW212 with him.
Steele is a very well-respected consultant, and a great professor. The way he talks about business makes you want to come to class and learn more. He is engaging, yet very informative. I would highly recommend him for this course. I wish I would've taken more classes with him.
Professor Steele is by far the most inspiring teacher I've had at IUPUI. It's an honor to have someone who has been so successful in the real world to be willing to teach you what you need to succeed in today's "Fast, Flat World." He's been there and done that and wants to inspire you to do the same. Show up, PARTICIPATE, and be ready to LEARN!
Prof. Steele puts in the time and makes himself available to all of his students; take advantage of this. His lectures are interesting and engaging- trust me, you will want to attend this class. If you show up and engage the material, you will get an A. KELLEY STUDENTS: DO NOT miss the opportunity to take a class with Prof. Steele!
If you're interested in entrepreneurship andor have a business idea, you MUST take this class. By the end of the course, you'll have a complete business plan. This course skips all the fluff and only gives you practical info. that you'll actually use. Go to prof. office hours as much as possible for awesome advice and feedback on your idea.
Professor Steele was my favorite professor my freshman year of college. He is full of knowledge and loves to share it with students. He really does want the students to succeed, go to his office hours, and get to know him. It will help your grade out in the end. He would help a student in any way that he possibly could.
He will focus a lot of material in financial sector. U.S market condition, Global market condition, Current market issues in his J401 class. He offers a lot of helps for international students. He also teaches Bus-X100 and Bus-105 in Fall. As an international student, he gave me a lot of academic and career advice.
Invest in his class and get to know him and he will always helpbe there for you. Rather than only going by the often outdated material of textbooks, he teaches you what you will need to know in business from his decades of experience and expertise. If you have the slightest interest in entrepreneurship, take his class; best teacher I've ever had.
Professor Steele is one of the best IUPUI has to offer! He is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and how business operates in general. Come to class on-time, be prepared, do your work, and you will succeed. He has sparked a lot of interest for me to further my knowledge. Outstanding professor, highly recommend!
WOW is all I can Say about this class and also the professor. Professor Steele is not like every other professor he is their for you no matter what time of day. Wonderful person to get into your network. To the class 60% or more of young people want to own there own business this class will walk you through this process. A Must take at IUPUI!
Prof. Steele is the best prof. at IUPUI Kelley School of Business bar non. I have only taken two classes with him and learned more in those two classes than half of my other classes. His wealth of knowledge is priceless. This is the only prof I would take J401 with. Get to know him and he will be someone whom you can call on down the road for help.
Prof Steele is a great guy. I wish I would've had him before my Senior year. He made the class (and learning in general) interesting. As long as people participated, he was happy. The tests were all done (including the final) within the first 12 of class. The rest was a group project. Not nearly as bad as ICORE, esp since tests were done.
Professor Steele was an awesome professor. He really cares about his students and is passionate about business and entrepreneurship. Do yourself a favor and take this class!
Professor Steele is one of the best professors IUPUI Kelley School has. This class was fairly easy, just beware of the two group presentations. Take this course with Steele and you won't regret it!
Professor Steele is a great teacher because he lectures students on the items they absolutely need to know outside of the classroom. He will not bore you with long lecture slides. His stories are fun, entertaining, and highly educational. I would definitely take him again as a professor. Become familiar with BLOOMBERG!!
This class was challenging & unique from others I have taken in college. Steele doesn't bother messing around with lectures unless the whole student body requests such, but he find it more useful to talk about things that are happening right now. Don't expect power points to follow or study. He expects discussion on current events going on!
Steele understands business in the real world better than any teacher at Kelley Indy, is an inspirational lecturer, and structures his class to maximize learning and engage students. Also, I went into this class knowing nothing about startup ventures and left knowing enough, simply put. Also, he is always availabile to his students for guidance.
Professor is one my favorite teachers ever. I've taken two courses that he teaches and he is amazing. You does not accept excuses and expects all of his students to be ready to learn. Highly recommend that you get to experience him if you attend IUPUI.
Absolutely incredible. He is a great professor that truly cares about his students and how they improve over the course of the semester. He has so much real-world experience that he brings to the classroom. Tests are easy but you need the book!! Be prepared to keep up with the news and you will pass :)
Tough, but he knows anything and everyone you could ever want to know when it comes to business. Just act like you want to learn and he is an awesome resource.
Professor Steele is the best there is. He is very knowledgable and respects his students time and effort. If you take X105, and you don't take it with Steele, you're making a mistake!!
He's an amazing professor. I would take another one of his classes in any day. I loved being able to sit down and talk to him about business. So inspirational and guiding.
He is one of the best Kelley professors I have ever had. I have learned a lot from him. He is clear and to the point but will guide you through the class. He expects a lot from you but is very understanding at the same time. He gives great feedback/advice and tells you what you really need to know. I would take this professor again if I could 100%.
Took this class because of my marketing major. First class that talks about business. I didn't know what to expect coming into this class, but by the end of the semester I went from knowing almost nothing about how a business works to knowing what the NASDAQ and so much more is and how it works. I definitely recommend professor Steele.
He truly cares about the success of his students and will do anything to help prepare you for your future as a business professional. Be honest if you don't know something. He does not tolerate dishonesty. Always have your book in class and participation matters. Best professor I've ever had and I learned a lot in his course.
This was my first business class, my advisor told me this class would be hard because the professors try to weed out students. Professor Steele has been my favorite professor so far. He really cares about helping you gain business knowledge and being successful. This class helped me realize where I want to go in my major. Highly recommend him!!
Also had for W212, and I would hands down call him the best prof. I've ever had. He is very helpful, especially if you ask for advice. Speak up in class and seek out his office hours. If you get to know him, you may wind up with an amazing internship (Thank you Prof. Steele!). Pay attention; he teaches "real-world" need-to-knows, and truly cares.
This class was not taxing on homework or tests. Professor Steele made class interesting by treating us as peers and sharing vast amounts of rich information to us about the equities market, management of wealth, and his vast personal experience. I would enjoy taking more classes with him and I still seek his advice for issues. Its a great class.
He was just an amazing stand up guy! Not afraid to tell you what he is thinking, or tell you how to fix it. Always try to talk with him he loves that!
Professor Steele made me realize that I wanted to be a business major. He talks a lot of his personal experience in business and about current events. Make sure you know what is going on in the news before you come into class! Also, never be late to class... he makes it quite humiliating for those who can't seem to be on time.
This was my favorite class during the semester. Professor Steele can come across as intimidating, but he cares greatly about his students. There is not much written work, generally two assignments a week, but neither are extremely difficult. You have to read the textbooks to do well on the quizzes, and participation/attendance are critical.
As a successful business professional, Mr. Steele is one of the most respected professors amongst my class. Definitely one of my favorite professors at IUPUI.
Prof. Steele comes off as intimidating to those who don't know him-- and he's supposed to! However, he's proven to care about every respective student's experience in his class as they do: If you show that you want to learn from him, he will certainly help! Great lecturer, so much knowledge. Can't wait to take his senior strategy class.
Steele is a real gem. Give him a chance and he will really grow on you. Believe it or not, he really does care about the future of all of his students. He may come off as intimidating at times but don't let that fool you, he is genuinely a nice caring person. Make sure you participate in class or just nod and make eye contact as he lectures.
don't be late to class, he'll call you out. read the book, quizzes are based on textbook vocab. 4 quizzes no tests. you get 5 points every class for attending, so go to class every day. very little extra credit opportunities. easy to get an A in the class. overall, i would highly recommend others to take X100 with professor steele.
He is a great teacher. Showing up to class and doing the work is going to keep your grade up to your standard in this class. The bad thing about him is that he is very traditional and wants things as professional as possible, very under stable. He is not afraid to call you out. Makes you clap for his lecture after class which is dumb. Good class
Professor Steele is one of the best professors at Kelley hands down. He's a practitioner, not an academic, and it shows in how he runs his class. His experience as an entrepreneur, corporate executive, and venture capitalist create a wealth of knowledge for him to pull from. He's the closest thing to "the real world" as you're gonna find at Kelley.
Professor Steele is the best professor and mentor I have ever had. He is well respected, caring, knowledgable, and great lecturer. He was intimidating at first, but he should be. Be active in class and talk to him, he will invest in you to make you the best you can be! Travel with him as well, to both NYC and London. He is so very insightful.
Professor Steele is the by far the best professor I have had in the Kelley School. He doesn't teach to the text book; he teaches you things that will make you a better business professional and relates that to the generic text book readings. Take initiative, stay engaged, and you will learn a ton! Don't be afraid to ask questions and be honest!
Professor Steele truly cares about the next generation of business leaders. The class can be challenging at times and the case studies are time consuming, but you will be a better business person for taking the course with Professor Steele.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. His lectures pretty much have absolutely nothing to do with the tests. BUT if you just read the book when studying for the test and memorize the precourse knowledge questions you will pass both test with a A++++++. AND take notes of things he says during other people presentations so that u dont make mistakes ur welcome
one of those professors who exhausts himself being available to students across all courses/classes he instructs. also rather than normal academia he treats his classes as open forum for all to discuss subject material and current events. some say its stupid to clap at the end of class, but its an old kelley tradition hes trying to bring back.
