At the beginning of the semester he said we would be WANTING to make really long speeches by the end. I didn't believe him, the idea of making a speech terrified me, but he was right. I have gone over my time in the last two speeches, and have really enjoyed his class. He motivates students.

He is a very positive teacher. always willing to help. never puts you down. encourages everone and doesnt emabarrass you when your up at the podieum. gives you the answers to some of the tests. I really enjoyed the class. hes is great.

This guy has stories! Plus, he's a damn good teacher and good at getting you to be able to get over your fear of Public Speaking.

Great teacher. Very personable. Not a whole bunch of homework. Makes you feel comfortable speaking even when you feel as if you had a hundred butterflies fluttering in your stomach. Would highly recommend if you are at all uncomfortable with speaking to group of people. Will make you feel right at home.

Good teacher, laid back if you want an A you'll get it. The first few weeks of class are pretty boring but it gets better. I'm most likely taking him again. Oh and attendence affects your grade.

Hes such a great teacher! theres only like 3 speeches and two tests throught the semester. the textbook helps, but dont buy it until after you start the class, he has ways for you to get it cheeper. and if you tell him your sick, your excused for an absence!

Very good teacher! Loves the subject and has great stories. Graded on attendance, but he allows as much extra credit as you want to do. Two speeches, pretty easy grader, very very nice man. Will stay and answer any questions regarding the class, life, or college. He is a great teacher, best advice is to take this class when you are a freshman.

If u dun absent and present within indicated time, he always gives an A for your job.. He also gives extra credit which are unlimited extra points! As long as you make the Power point file and do all work what i said above , you will get an A on your final.

I took a 5 week summer course. Great teacher. Very clear and organized. 2 speeches, Midterm, and Final. I did not read the book at all, taking good notes and paying attention in class will suffice. Fairly easy class. Extremely helpful, responds to emails. Highly recommended.

really awesome guy! We had heated debates in our class and he is one of the greatest teachers in the Communications Department. I really enjoyed his class! Very down to earth and helpful and LOVES politics, so if you are very into politics, take Stevenson!

At first, I was so scared presenting speeches but now I am relaxed and confident. I used to have major stage fright but this help me get over it. I would recommend taking his class. He is an AWESOME teacher. He is easy and funny. He is never negative. He encouarges you to be the best you can be. Gives some answers to the Midterm and Final.

Prof Stevenson is honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. I am a comms major, so if my teacher isn't passionate about his/her subject, I can tell. He made me strive to be a comms professor all over again. His class is entertaining, and I have been reaping the benefits of it whilst arguing with my chums. TAKE HIM!

Prior to this class, I wasn't very interested in comms, but this professor turned me into a comms major! The class was very interesting every time, and lots of politics were discussed. Stevenson knows his stuff and is willing to share his knowledge with all of his students. I loved going to his class. Take his class! You wont regret it!

One of the best prof.s I've ever had. Don't bother buying the textbook. He gives a bunch of handouts, and if you follow them exactly for your speech, then you are guaranteed an A. He is very encouraging and not at all judgmental, which makes the class easy. He is also a very lenient grader. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PROFESSOR!

I've taken this professor in two different classes now and he's such a great teacher. I wish he wasn't so humble and really showed us more of the skills he has and how much he knows. Good Prof, has alot of fun stories. After the initial notes, most of the classes are speeches. There are only 2. He is REALLY laid back & never critical. If speacking isnt your thing this is the guy to take. His test are a bit hard you can get a C/B on them without ever looking at the book. He just wants everyone to do well.

There's definitely a reason he has such a high score on here. He's awesome. You have two speeches, one informative, one persuasive 6-8 minutes long. You get to use a powerpoint which is extremely helpful. He gives you an outline to follow when writing your speech. I hate speech but he made it a breeze for me. Take him. He is better than any other.

Great Teacher! loved his class so going to take his higher level class! He is very fair on grading on speeches and always has something nice to say. Just follow his outline and your good! Although read the book if you want to do well on the mid term and final, I didn't and got a C on both which made me get a B in the class.

I took his COMS 105 in the summer. Easy class. Only did 2 speeches, 1 Midterm & 1 Final. Barely used the book. The only hard part I would say, in my opinion, was the midterm itself. But he offers unlimited extra credit papers. Very patient, funny, and interesting teacher! Highly recommend! (:

Great Professor that really enjoys his job. Took him over the Winter and didn't find the course load too bad. Read the book if you want to "A"ce the midterm and final, others didn't and got a "C". Only TWO speeches (informative and persuasive). He lets you pick your topics and the use of power point is very helpful while delivering your speeches.

He does not give lecture slides to take notes from, all oral lectures but he is very helpful with any questions. 2 speeches, a midterm and final. Study from the book or you won't do well... Stevenson is extremely funny and a very respectable guy. He clearly outlines what he wants in your speeches and lets you use powerpoint and note cards which makes it easier. His tests aren't the hardest, but I still recommend reading the textbook. Overall I enjoyed this class and I don't think there is a better COMS teacher at COC than Stevenson.

If you show up and get the notes the tests are easy. It is a friendly environment even if you are terrified of public speaking. He is also pretty easy on grading.

He was always in a great mood and his passion shows. The second speech is a little more difficult so get started on that as early as possible. Otherwise, take him!

Take notes in class and that is what is on the test. He will tell you word for word the test question answers so just memorize your notes.

If you are nervous about public presentations take Coms 105 with him and he will really help you. This professor was amazing; he was funny & inspirational. I took this class during Spring, and it was the easiest class ever. He is an easy grader, just follow his outlines & you will get an A on speeches (only 2). There is a midterm and final exam, but he gives you a test review (for both) & goes over it in class. (gives you test questions).

This prof is exceptional (very easy grader)! There are 2 papers (one of them is a final) & 2 speeches (one of them is a group debate which is really fun). Do all the work & you should be fine, this class is an easy A. For the midterm he gives a study guide & gives out answers in class (all you really need). UNLIMITED EXTRA CREDIT (essays)!

Loved this professor! Speaking out loud to an audience is very intimidating at first but professor Stevensons will help you through the way and teach you not to be scared of speaking out loud! Has a great sense of humor and fantastic stories. He wants his students to succeed, Take him!

I had him for a shortened semester, Summer. He was wonderful, had great stories to tell us and graded very fairly. I would definitely recommend taking him. Loved his class!

Love David. He is super understanding n passionate. There are only a few assignments that you are graded on. He does not grade hard at all and he's very clear with his instructions and what he wants. If you don't understand something he will walk you through it. Only thing I don't like is that he doesn't use canvas and you can't see your grade.

Grading pretty much consisted of 2 multiple choice exams, 2 speeches, one paper and unlimited extra credit papers (so it was impossible to get a B if you just put in a little effort). Mr. Stevenson is a very nice prof who doesn't grade harshly; though you will have to ask for a current grade - as he doesn't use canvas

I love Stevenson!!! I have a lot of respect for him. His classes are mainly lecturing about what will exactly be on the test while including many stories from his teaching career. He is honest and gives you great advice, what he says is the truth. Take him!

I loved Professor Stevenson! Incredible teacher. He gives unlimited extra credit. Unlimited extra credit! Simply write one paper, do two speeches, and take a midterm and a final. Just make your speeches as close to the maximum amount of time as possible, and you will do well. Additionally, the exams are very easy and he has a review. Take this !!

Stevenson is a wonderful professor, all you do in class is take a midterm, present an informative speech and persuasive speech, and take a final and turn in one 10 point assignment, extra credit is also unlimited! He gives you all the answers for the tests and gives you an outline for what should be said during the speech!

I enjoyed Professor Stevenson's class. He gives unlimited extra credit, and your grade is determined by 2 speeches, a midterm, final, and final paper. The class was entertaining, and the content of the course itself was really useful in real world applications. I am not a communications major by any means and still did really well in this class.

Amazing prof, really cares about your grade, has fun lectures and tons of stories. Did a ton of extra credit and got almost 700/650 in the class. 2 presentations, 3 if you count quick intro one for an ice breaker. Didn't use the book once, don't buy it. Prof Stevenson is a wonderful teacher. He makes the classroom feel like a conversation between himself and the students. His style breaks down the anxiety and fears that typically surround public speaking. The way he speaks to the class is lesson in and of itself. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Prof Stevenson is such a cool dude. He loves to talk about current events and ties them in to the class. There's an individual speeches and a group debate. Follow the outline for the speeches and he will give you a good grade. Theres a mid term and final exam. It is a fun and enjoyable class to take.

One of the best teachers I have ever had. Professor Stevenson genuinely cares and wants you to do well. Presentation, midterm that is multiple choice, final that is a take home paper, and then the debate. This was the semester everything moved online, and he was great about it towards everyone and really cared about us. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!

Super easy A but this class has more to do with politics than anything else. SUPER annoying because I do not want to read articles on Trump the whole time. But like I said, easy A.

This class was pretty easy, show up to lectures or read the textbook and you're set for exams. For speeches, he gives good feedback and is really nice about it, but he is very strict when he comes to the format of the speeches(time limit, order, etc.). You don't need to go to class to pass but it is helpful. Replies fast to emails.

Very easy teacher, you learn a lot. As long as you do the work you should be fine. You also have UNLIMITED extra credit.

Professor Stevenson was great. He's totally chill and the work isn't that difficult. Follow the directions for everything and you'll be fine.

Stevenson gave answers for mid term and final. Was lighthearted and would usually spend more time inspiring than doing the lecture. Lectures were enjoyable and in story time type of style. Would give you the answers to how to give an A presentation and was very nice when giving feedback. Definitely recommend

Prof Stevenson is amazing! Giving my speeches was made a breeze by him b/c he makes you feel confident. He gives a lot of feedback! I was able to get a response from him on the weekends, even late at night. A truly amazing professor. He wants to make sure you learn something in his class. I am very grateful I took him. Also, tons of extra credit!

David is such a nice guy he is one of the best professors I have had at coc so far. His lectures were personal and he incorporated lots of stories to make them engaging and funny. He gives unlimited extra credit all you have to do Is write him a paper. If you read through his outlines for the speeches and follow it you will have an easy A.

Coolest professor ever!!! I had him over the winter semester and was the best class I have ever taken. Very few assignments, but when there are you learn a lot. Super funny and engaging.

Stevenson has been one of my favorite professors. He offers extra credit that is technically infinite too. The two speeches, informative and persuasive, are mandatory along with a few other assignments. He is motivational and likes to tell stories that sometimes go on too long but I could listen to him all day. He answers emails fast too.

Very good professor, there are two speeches, two outlines, midterm, final , a analysis paper and unlimited extra credits. If you miss one assignment, you'll fail. He has a very clear structure that wants you to follow and if you do, you can easily pass this class with A. Don't skip any zoom sessions/ class bc that counts toward your final grade.

This class is easy and everything is self-explanatory and he gives unlimited extra credit so if you didn't do well on the midterm or worry about the final then you will pass with the EC because 1 will make it a letter grade up. He didn't do debates this semester because we didn't even have time left. The paper is easy if you answer the questions.

Best speech professor at COC! Super fun & engaging class, especially for it being a speech class. He has lots of stories to tell (not boring). Speeches are very easy especially being on zoom. Overall best Professor!! Take him you wont regret it!

This prof is amazing, I have anxiety when I speak in front of large audience but this teacher help me overcome it and get use to it. But the class overall easy, You have lectures for the first 8 weeks then midterm then after u start informative and persuasive speech. The teacher provides infinite extra credit the whole semester. Funny and caring.

Professor Stevenson is a great Professor. There are only two speeches- informative and persuasive. Both require work and effort but they are easy if you do the work and practice. Make study groups too for this class as I found a class group helped me study and excel in this class! Great teacher!

Very nice guy who goes out of his way to make the class as EASY as possible. No busy work, no long lectures. Tries to integrate real life examples in lectures and make them to the point. Gives answers to the test (just have to listen to him). He actually goes over the study guide and gives the answers to everything there, which is same as test.

What can say about Professor Stevenson, I really enjoyed his class. The lectures can be a little slow sometimes, but they were great and informative. Also, I liked how he supports the idea of "no speech codes." Professor Stevenson is really caring and helps you in any way to pass his class.

Professor Stevenson really cares about his students, no matter their views on issues. He offers unlimited extra credit and gives the answers to his exams in his lectures. Put in a decent amount of effort and follow instructions for an easy A. He also regularly checks his email and responds quickly. Would highly recommend him to anyone.

He is a talker. Gives a lot of his exam answers in class. 40 points for participation that counts towards your grade. His outlines are quite hard. They do not make much sense. HAs opportunities for extra credit.

By far one of my most favorite teachers ever. I was actually excited to go to class because of this guy. He spoke very clearly, gave good examples, very nice, funny, and gave good feedback. I may not have gotten an A in the class but, I would definitely take his class again.

Had the pleasure of having this professor for COMS105. Do the work and you'll pass, even has (easy) extra credit work that will help you get an A or A+. You decide the grade you get in the class and the speech topics are fun to put together and present. Put in the effort and you'll up your GPA in no time. Take this professor, you wont regret it.

Nice guy. Use of canvas is underwhelming. Lectures can be difficult to follow. Get ready to take notes cause he talks fast. No powerpoints to follow. Everything is off of what he says and the material is not covered in a straight sequence. Presentations are not so bad if understand what he is expecting. He insists you read 2 chaps a day in Winter.

The absolute best professor I have ever had. I always struggled with public speaking and he makes it so easy. Really cool person. Easy A and only few speeches. Definitely would take him again.

I have taken Coms 105 during Winter and it was not hard at all once you got used to the way Professor Stevenson teaches. Believe me when I say that Coms 225 is way easier than 105. You don't have to do outlines and you only have four assignments for the entire semester. Each extra credit paper is worth 20 points. They are easy to complete.

Professor Stevenson, is a great professor! He doesn't give busy work, and gives you plenty of time to complete assignments. His lectures are great, but can run a little long. He gives unlimited extra credit and grades fairly. Overall a great professor to have and would highly recommend taking his class.

Professor Stevenson is a very funny and caring professor. He obviously cares about his students and the subject of public speaking. He teaches it well enough to where not only do you learn the material easily, but also have fun doing it. He is very light-hearted and goes out of his way to make sure no one is stressed or worried.

Understanding and empathetic to students' anxiety. Lectures are fun and interesting (lots of stories about past students and projects). He will ask you to read the textbook but it is very easy to find a free PDF online. Not work-heavy, you have to give two speeches (both requiring slideshows) AND do a written assignment.

Good class for an easy A. There are only 2 speeches, they are pretty specific though, and one page paper evaluating a speech but that's literally it. Very repetitive in lectures but you're able to watch them over again. He does tell you to read a book throughout the class but you could get by without (I did). Lots of extra credit opportunities.

AMAZING Professor! He is very understanding and very clear about lectures and assignment directions. The only assignments in this class is a presentation, midterm paper and final paper - all of which are VERY easy. Gives great advice and tips, and very good feedback. Such an amazing professor! So funny and the class is really simple with 2 speeches, 2 tests and one paper. Only thing is he does have high expectations for speeches which is good, but caused my grade to be a little undeserving considering I put a lot of effort! I took Coms 105 online this summer & I will say Stevenson's class was relatively easy. His lectures are long & hard to follow so make sure you take it during a time you'll be wide awake. Two Speeches & two tests, with a 10 point paper. Not a lot of assignments so make sure you really try. Ask questions if you are confused !! Easy A if you try.

Take him! He's the easiest going Professor I've ever had. If you deal with anxiety, he makes you feel so comfortable with presenting. His speeches are specific but as long as you follow the outlines he provides, than you should be okay. Lectures are little long but I got through the class without fully paying any mind. BTW, unlimited extra credit.

Amazing prof definitely. Only 2 speeches are due throughout the semester, and he spends about half of the sem giving lectures on how to do each presentation so it's easy. The midterm and the final were online MCQs, and even if you do poorly on any exams/speeches he gives you unlimited chances to analyze speeches for extra credit.

Took coms105 and coms225 with professor Stevenson and he is a very kind professor. You will gain a lot of knowledge out of this class! The workload is fairly easy: 2 speeches, 2 tests, and plenty of extra credit is made available to get a higher grade. In fact I would say you would actually have to try hard to get a bad grade.

Honestly such a good professor. He makes sure to grade very fairly and he gives you lots of extra credit opportunities. You need to do about 2 presentations for the whole class in winter and he's honestly very caring and wants you to pass his class.

Professor Stevenson is the best professor to take for public speaking (especially if you're a shy person)! You're graded on very few homework assignments but he does want the work to be done a specific way so make sure that you read the instructions carefully. You're given lots of freedom and resources in the class so use it to your advantage.

Professor Stevenson is an AMAZING teacher! His lectures are very engaging and easy to pay attention to. He does not assign busy work and provides unlimited extra credit. I have taken him for 2 different coms classes because I enjoy him so much. He only has a midterm and a final and both are very simple. If you take notes in class you will do fine.

Took him over a 5-week course, hour and a half lectures 4 days a week. Can't really say much but he is an amazing teacher. Cares for his students and did not make the class any harder than it needed to be. Minimal but relevant assignments and only two speeches which made the workload barely noticeable. You have to try to fail basically.

Took his online lecture, he does talk a lot but hes so fun and love just to yap to his students. The speeches were easy as long as you just copy the guideline. Easy grader and sees when you try. He just loves getting to know students. Offer extra credit but not needed because there 3 speeches, maybe like 5 other assignment but mostly attendance.

Stevenson is a fair grader and replies to emails super quick. In his 105 class you do two speeches (informative and persuasive), a super short one-pager, and two exams. He also gives unlimited extra credit if you just review a speech outside of class and write a short paper. For my online class he is a little repetitive but overall a nice guy!
