Anal. Takes off many points for small things. Writes too small on the board.
Hardest teacher at Sinclair, but you will learn a lot if you don't fail out.
I enjoyed the class and Mr. Stott.
If you want to learn math take Mr. Stoot.
Writes too small. Silly jokes. Very clear on theory and cause. Relates math to other courses. Makes you tell him why untill you understand the answer. He knows how to ask you the right question so you learn the math.
KNOWS MATH VERY WELL, VERY HELPFUL, YOU MUST ASK QUESTIONS OTHERWISE PREPARE TO BE LOST! IF YOU CANT PUT THE TIME IN, NEVER TAKE A 5 CREDIT HOUR MATH CLASS IN 2 DAYS! ALTHOUGHT I DIDNT DO GOOD IN HIS CLASS, ON MY PART... I COULD SEE HE IS A GREAT PROF!
Extremely Down to eart and helpful person
Horrible worst instructor. ANAL! Takes stupid points off. Pop quizzes and attendence quizzes. Avoid him!!!
He explaines everything very clearly. The class itself is not easy and I think he does his best to help you pass. He is a little monotone, but I never felll asleep.
its funny i got an a in math 101 easily and got a c in his class, b/c of attendance. hey mr stott its college, get over it.
****. David Stott is perhaps the worst math teacher I have ever had. Imagine Mr. Mackey from South Park teachin Inermediate Algebra for two hours. I'm no good w/ math and he was no help.
I got a c in the course, however I got an a or b on all of the exams, not sure how that happened. I would never take him again. Lyn Keeler is much better.
Stott is a good solid math teacher. His lectures are very thorough, although he speaks in a soft monotone voice. If you plan to major in engineering, he is a good choice.
The course material is hard, but he made it very clear. If you follow his instructions you'll do good.If you struggle in math take him! he is so clear and helpful.
He wasn't very clear. We started out with a full class and now we only have 5 students. What does that say:)
In some ways I see him as a good prof. He comes about 5 minutes late everday, not to mention being late on exam day. He rarely offers extra credit and homework is a killer. He gives you about 50 or so problems and then only collects two or three problems. I would consider another teacher.
Very hard class and professor! Assigns tons of homework and grades it all. It takes forever to get homework and tests back. He's always late to class and counts attendance against your grade. I passed 101&102 with A+ and barely got a C in his class. Very softspoken and writes very small. Our class started w/30+ students & ended w/6!
He is very clear with his lectures, and helps out if you have trouble. He does take attendance, but arent you paying to be in class and learn in the 1st place??? He assigns homework but doesnt collect it, he just goes over questions you may have. He is a great math teacher, and i highly reccomend him! Dont listen to the other comments!!!

Mr. Stott is very good at explaining the material. he doesnt collect homework. tests are easy if you know the materiel. great if you have a mature class. I was unlucky, i got a class with annoying students. but i still got a B.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! His tests are impossible and he doest not prepare you well for them at all! He is very softspoken and VERY sensitive. One time in class he went over the time period and students got up to leave and he stormed out of the room like a little baby. We started out with 30+ students and ended up only having like 5 left.
Very intellegent, knows his stuff, and is willing to try to help if you ask, so I respect him greatly. On the downside, very quiet and hard to follow occasionally.
AVOID this professor at all costs. I took him for 116 and we had 35 people in class and were down to 4 by the last 5 weeks. He ran over class time and people started to pack up and he stormed out of the room like a little baby. He's very soft spoken, his tests are IMPOSSIBLE. He's a nice person, but needs improvement on his teaching skills.
Monotone, unclear lecture, texts were too long and horrible (over class period) Ended up with only 6 people out of 30 by end of quarter. Stormed out because we had to go to our next class and he was still lecturing. Wouldn't get homework back until after the tests covering it. I'd never gotten below an A before, got a C.
I have had Stott (Dahmer look alike) for MAT 201. Homework was a killer; like 50+ problems every night & would pick like 3 at random. Had no choice to take him for MAT 216, he was nothing like he was in 201. He didn't assign killer homework. It was sensible. He still made dumb jokes, but he was very helpful.
Mr. Stott is a very nice man who really wants to help his students understand. He is awesome on explaining theory and makes you tell him until you understand.
If you get this guy run for your life. Not soooo easy. Ask him to explain something in english and he'll flip out.
After taking Stott for Mat 201, I thought that this guy was horrible. I was then stuck with having to take him for MAT 216. He was totally different. He actually gave the problems he was gonna collect for homework ( about 10 - 20 problems). The tests were straight forward. There about eight of us, and everyone passed with above a C. I got an A.
Very nice teacher! I enjoyed him! He's really cute too!
He comes a little late and keeps you until the class is over. He tries to help you until you understand.
He is very helpful! He is very patient and very nice.
Awful professor. Talks very quietly, tests are impossible, keeps you late after class and if you leave to get up he throws a tantrum.
I dont know why everyone has bad comments about him. He is monotone and softspoken but he seems like a nice guy so deal with it. He also explains things pretty clrearly.
Ok so the last comment was by me at the beginning of the quarter but my opinion has changed... He is a nice guy but his tests are really hard and he grades very hard too even though he says he doesnt. I am dropping the class along with about 50% of the other people I took the class with. So glad I am out.
He is very nice and helpful.
he is very monitoned and does not prepare students well for class. nice guy but bad teacher.
Although his coursework tends to be challenging, his flexibility in attendance and willingness to help exceed the work. Those that don't "like" him are looking for an easy grade and probably should not be in college.
What sucks is he IS a really nice guy. He has a lot of annoying habits. Like writing in really small cursive. Very monotone and hard to pay attention to. Very nit picky with homework, takes points off for random things. To be fair, I didn't give the class much of a chance. A lot of people did drop it though, I plan to take it with another teacher.
He is a nice nerdy type guy but he is very hard. After every test he said he is disappointed and the average in our class test wise is around a 55% and he doesn't curve. Watch out!
I really liked his teaching style. He was very helpful and I learned a lot from. I would recommend his class to others, but you have to be willing to learn. If not, you will fall flat on your face like some of the other people who have posted that they dropped out.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to LEARN math, not give up and quit. He is the BEST teacher ever- take his class.
I don't like Math, never have. I dropped the class, but not becuz of Stott. Too many personal issues to keep up with the homework. Take good notes, study text, and do homework-success. He's an excellent prof. Explains so you understand, and if you don't he helps til u get it. No studying=hard tests. If u want 2 learn Math, take him & u will.
I TOOK HIS CLASS AND IT STARTED WITH AROUND 30 OTHER STUDENTS. THERE WAS ONLY 9 STUDENTS AFTER THE SECOND TEST. ONE PROBLEM WAS HE WOULD PICK 1 OR 2 PROBLEMS FOR HOMEWORK TO GRADE. YOU COULD'VE DONE THE WHOLE THING BUT THAT PROB. AND MISSED 50%. THE MATH LABS WERE USELESS TO LEARNING THE MATERIAL & HE CRAMS THE LESSONS TO MAKE TIME GO FASTER.
The way he teaches isn't helpful.
He doesn't show all the steps to a problem and just "assumes" you know what those steps in between are. He doesn't grade the papers outside of class, instead, he takes the time out of the class period to sit at the desk and grade, while you wait. I would not advise stott if you struggle in math.
I'm surprised at all of the low ratings for Mr. Stott. I had him for MAT 122 (Business Analysis Math) and he was very helpful and took his time teaching the material to ensure students understood the material. The class was challenging, but it was not because of David at all. I dealt with him 1 on 1 a couple of times for help and he was great.
He's very dry, but answers all questions, gives extra credit, and works through problems on the board. He's true to his syllabus and reasonable. My only real complaint is that I received exam 3 back roughly two minutes before we took exam 4. It seems that ALL statistics professors have a problem handing labs and homework back in a timely manner.
Horrible at teaching the concepts in the 191-93 series. This is supposed to be slower(more in depth) presentation of the work, however he skips steps. MyMathLab teaches the material better. This is a problem with prof's at Sinclair, most are Mathmatics Masters, NOT teachers. Perhaps if the dept. employed more teachers the pass rate would be higher.
Does not use ANGEL at all! Assignments are handed back weeks after they are submitted with no urgency. No feedback on performance and grades.Boring and Dull. Do not take this teacher!!!
This teacher is horrible! I had a 3.8 gpa and have never recieved anything below a B in any course but in this class I managed a C somehow. David is of no help when it comes to the material, and the book is useless. He is also amazingly dull and Monotone. Avoid at all cost!!!!!
He knows his stuff and is helpful. It's the way that he teaches + his low tone of voice are the problem. Grades tests fairly and goes easy on your mistakes. The labs are made by a friend of his (some doesn't make sense/dumb.) Threw in true/false Qs (worth 3 point each) on one of the tests. To survive: Read the book and do ALL your homework.
Horrible at teaching! and I'm a good student. Avoid if at all possible. Did I mention horrible?
Mr. Stott is intellegent, but he isn't the best teacher. I was an A student in 191 and 192, but I struggled a lot in his class. You can tell he is used to teaching upper level math classes because 193 is supposed to be slower/more in depth, but it wasn't. He only taught for 20 minutes and the rest was on us. Take caution if math isn't your best.
Mr. Stott is absolutely great at teaching to students who totally understand math. However he is horrible at making students who do not catch on to the concepts as quickly as engineering students. Many people in the class did not ask questions because when he did explain it to them they were still confused. VERY PICKY grader.
the personality on this teacher would make licking cotton more fun that ever! If you are are able to learn on your own, go for it. He is of no use. picky grader or he simply doesnt like to be proven wrong. don't take if you need to have a solid understanding of math.
Very dry and speaks softly. He does explain things thoroughly. I wouldn't recommend him if you struggle with math. The text isn't necessary- everything is done on mymathlab and he keeps you for the full class time.
He speaks softly, but is very approachable. Everything is explained clearly and thoroughly as long as his voice doesn't put you to sleep. There is no reason the buy the physical textbook, the online portion covers everything. It can be very frustrating, and can make assignments take forever. Unfortunately, it is mandatory across the subject.
quiet, picky grader. i got a 80/100 on a test i got every question right just forgot stupid thing like a parenthsis..tests n hw are the same as all the other193 teachers. u gotta teach urself everything.bc he teaches as if u no it already. AVOID IF U CAN
Awesome professor...highly recommended. He is very helpful with struggling students. Math is by far my worst subject but he always took the time during class, after class, or during office hours to make sure I understood everything. I could not have passed without him.
OMG!! Forget my record on the dean's list!! Unfair grading since all the work you do such as quizzes and homework account for so little...Definately would not recommend this teacher!
He's a good guy
He keeps it real. Bro that wants to help another bro out.
Very easy to learn from. Lots of homework to do, no book used, lots of my math lab. would totally take this professor again. Very clear and explains things completely. Not a good math student usually, but he is making it easy.
Teacher is helpful, math department botched course, college algebra should be the requirement for the entrepreneurship program, much more useful math. Fail to see why knowing how fast helium leaks out of a balloon is going to help when owning my own business unless my business is predicting how fast helium leaks out of balloons.
Stott made frequent minor mistakes that would throw off the answer in the end and he would not realize it until then. There was a lot of online homework you HAVE to complete. The exam was only 10 questions and super simple. He's a very quiet teacher, but is helpful if you need something explained.
I am an excellent student, I never miss class- and usually like math. Professor Stott is VERY INTELLIGENT, so he doesn't know how to make concepts easy to grasp. He is deathly boring, and makes math lab assignments REALLY LONG. Do NOT recommend him at ALL. I did all homework and also the 2 hour study sessions online. Decided to drop to save my GPA.
He is super difficult to listen to in class his voice is very monotone but he is a really nice guy! You have homework literally 7days a week though. He really doesn't know what is on the online assignments therefore teaches much easier problems in class and then it is super hard to do the online work. If you ask for help he will help you!
Mr. Stott is the best math teacher I've ever had. I have taken two classes with him, and yes, you will have homework everyday, but this is a college class..... Anyways, he is very quiet, but always willing to help. I went to see him multiple times in office hours. Kind of a picky grader, but aren't all math teachers? Would definitely recommend him!
Does not provided outlined notes as my previous math classes have provided. If this is a must have for you, find someone else. Also if you are not a Math person, like myself, you may need someone who provides more detailed instructions. Passed this by the skin of my teeth. No extra credit.
Professor Stott is a wonderful teacher, he properly explains a topic in the classroom, pays attention to all students, helps to dismantle topics. There is no tests on lessons except the exams, but we have a lot of homework
Stott knows a lot but is immensely bad at lectures. He is incredibly monotone and will go over unecessary content therefor rushing at the end to cram it all in. I am learning from him but it's a struggle to keep my eyes open in class
He is a great teacher cause he explains very well. But you have to be concentrated for the whole time until the class is over. I like when he talks about details that we must know so that we won't make stupid mistakes. The only problem is his grading. For example, if you won't put enough coordinates in the graph, then you will lose points.
i took college algebra online, theres a lot of videos to watch and not much from the professor but he did do live test reviews which i liked. i didnt feel like the way the class was set up was easy to understand. the language used on the homework may be easy for someone who understands math but without having a teacher to interract with was difficu
Professor Stott was immensely helpful whenever I had troubles, and he would always stay behind after class if there was something I still wasn't grasping. It was a tough course but he did his best to help everyone get through it. Overall he presented the material well and was very friendly and easy to approach about problems with the class.
He moves pretty fast, but if you ask questions or for clarification, he is happy to help. He gives partial credit if you show your work. For my class, he had 4 exams (including the comprehensive final,) and each exam is 20% of your grade. If you attend his classes and participate, you will do well. I am terrible at math, but he really helped me.
Prof Stott is great! He really does care about students and has been helpful during the transition to online schooling. He's always open to questions and responds fast to emails. He can be boring at times and sometimes goes over class time because he talks too much, but the positives definitley outway the negatives. His homework is easy and helpful
Extremely frustrated and would not recommend taking him at all. He provides no directions on homework but expects you to know what he wants you to do or how he wants you to write something out. He constantly changes the dates on homework, labs, and tests which are found in the syllabus and sends out last minute emails. Very confusing & unorganized.
I have had to teach myself this course. The online lectures and voice recordings are not helpful, and the review material does not help prepare you for exams. Do not trust the due date syllabus he provides. He will change every assignment due date and throw you off.
Mr. Stott was great at answering questions and answering emails quickly. His lectures always go long and almost run into the next class period every time. He talks very fast and doesn't pause between problems. He was very helpful when I had questions but his lectures were very heavy.
The worst Professor Ive ever had so far. Each class, even on zoom, he shows up 5-15 minutes late every time. Therefor, he chooses to take up an extra 10 minutes every class. He grades incredibly hard as well. I am typically great at math but he has made it very hard for no reason. Frustrating class to drop my gpa by quite a bit.
Professor Stott is amazing! Probably one of the best teachers that I've had. He is always willing to answer any questions that you have and makes sure you understand the material. I'm going to miss taking this class just for the reason of not having him as a professor anymore.
Professor Stott changed my perspective on the stereotypes for math teachers! While I did take his class virtually and I regret it (very hard virtual, would not recommend) he as a professor was very responsive and encouraging and just very kind-hearted and willing to answer any questions or concerns I had!
Stott was great, very helpful and positive guy. I ended up needing to withdraw due to my grade being low and it being too late to bounce back, but Stott helped any way he could and I would highly recommend him. For someone who isn't good at math, he's been the best teacher I've had.
He was great professor was never late to class always there a up to an hour before class and would always sit down to assist me. Only complaints are he goes over class schedule on a regular basis otherwise great professor.
Honestly he is an awesome professor just not a good fit for me, he over explained everything and constantly moved exams and changed deadlines. It got to the point where I only showed up on exam days and would get frustrated when they were moved.Overall a great guy and an easy class, if you are a quick learner I suggest you look into someone else
Stott is a NICE guy. But I had to retake it after his class for many reasons that don't involve him. However, he didn't make it easier. He is a tough grader, and over explains everything to where you don't get it anymore. He isn't well prepared, and he doesn't accommodate to his students needs. Avoid him if you can. DAVID HARE is excellent though.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I'm a second semester senior and I have never had a class this hard. He is a super tough grader, but it takes him forever to grade stuff. Some of it is open math assignments which no matter how many times i read the chapter I cant get it. I surprisingly still have a B but this class is so stressful.
he's a nice guy, but he doesn't teach well in a way that works for me or half of the class. he over explains to the point where i got confused on the subject as soon as i understood it. his teaching isn't very easy to pay attention to. the tests are worth the most points, but there is a LOT of homework, online and paper.
he's a nice guy but he is not a good teacher. he over explains as soon as i understood the subject, confusing my classmates and i. the tests are worth 60% of the grade, but there is a LOT of homework, online and paper. i wouldn't retake him for any other class. lectures are boring so it's hard to keep attention. you teach yourself basically
