Great guy, funny, talks about sex, but that don't mean he's easy
Gives advice during test if you ask, class is tough, but interesting
Uphill learning curve.. Leads the way with wit!!
Hard, but I'm actually learning! Strange topics, just ask the family soup.
I luv Strong.
Some students really like Dr. Strong, but I found him hard to deal with. He is very funny but sometimes it feels like he is belittling you when you get an interpretation wrong. I don't think that he is trying to be mean, but it can still hurt your feelin
Excellent but tough. Hilarious, but he's no pushover. He'll do anything to help, though. Is VERY tough on absences.
Dr. Strong uses alot of mental images to get his point across. These are gross and disgusting. He tries to be funny. He is tough for test, study hard. He picks on students in class. Prepared to be embrassed. I am learning- wish his methods were different
VERY DIFFICULT TESTS THAT HE PROTESTS ARE EASY BUT IN REALITY ARE VERY DIFFICULT. TO MANY PARRALLELS IN LTIERATURE TO DISSASOCCIATE SOME POEMS FROM OTHERS. GREAT IN LECTURE THOUGH. FUN TEACHERS DON'T ALWAYS CORRELATE TO GOOD GRADES.
He is hilarious... I think i lost the freshmen 15 just from laughing my butt off!
Has an odd sense of humor but is pretty funny.
Very funny, class is hard, but you learn a lot. A good choice for Eng Comp 1.
Great Prof. He is very funny. Don't take anything personally, he just has his own sense of humor. He will try to scare you on the first test by saying everyone will fail. Just study for it, he tells you exactly what he wants. he wants us to do well.
loved loved loved this man, funny and he expects you to think on your feet, his expectations are high on tests and papers..wallflowers may want to take another class though.he knows his stuff and is super helpful..did i mention he's funny..ho ho ho
I am a 4.0 Sr.English major. I had Dr. Strong for one Sr. level English class. It was the worst experience in the course of my education. I found him to be vulgar, rude to students, and he celebrates his ability to make testing as stressful as possible.
He is the worst teacher I have ever I. I have always done good in college, but he does not understand that all students are not English majors. I do not wish this teacher on anyone and would not recommend anyone to take this course.
Hard. 3 Tests consisting of 10 quotations (only 2-3 lines) and you have to identify and explain criteria. HARD. He is funny, but can be rude and will pick on you because he does to everyone. you have to be on your toes and ready for any question.
this guy rocks. people may complain about his style or about the difficulty of his tests, but they are BABIES!! i had so much fun in his class and learned a ton about shakespeare and literary analysis. college courses are not supposed to be easy.
OK,so this isn't the teacher for the weak of heart. If you want someone to hold your hand and spoon feed you an eduacation, don't take this guy.If you have any thickness to your skin whatsoever and don't plan on lazy-ing your way through college take him.
Best teacher I have had thus far. Hard tests...but you learn alot. He cares for the individual student and will go the extra mile to help you with anything.
Is a great instructor and very funny. Just take lots of notes. The first test is the hardest because you don't know what he wants...but stick with it, you get it after first test. He tells you exactly what he wants. Notes, Notes, Notes!
I loved this guy and I know alot of people do too. He's up for tenur this year so if you get a chance write a letter to the dean on his behalf...the comittee really likes to consider those.TAKE HIM, you'll never read ANYTHING the same way again.
I've always done okay in English...but this class...GOOD LUCK! Don't recommend him if u don't wanna take eng. again! Tests are 10 short essays over diff poems u have to memorize and analyze! Good guy to talk to, loves to tell stories and jokes. Good sense of humor..not a good reason to takehis class
Tests are hard unless your the one who wrote it...take if your a Lit buff...but good luck!
I have had Dr. Strong for Engl and Lit and I think he is a great teacher. I have enjoyed every class I have had with him. He really knows how to teach English he but he wont tolerate slackers- they always drop his class the first few weeks.
Awesome professor with a lot of passion in what he teaches. As long as you go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. His classes are tough, but just a little effort and you'll be fine. He has a great sense of humor and is very helpful.
One of the smartest profs in the dept; quite a geek (+/-). Write down every word of his lectures and memorize. Zero tolerance for slackers/morons/moralizing twits. Do NOT take this prof if you're not on your toes. This is not your third grade teacher with the heart stickers; this is the real deal.

He's not a scary as he looks.
I had Dr. Strong for a World Lit class and he was great. I have despised every english class I have ever taken in my life, but I loved his. He tells a lot of stories and jokes and doesn't tolerate "slackers". If you take him, go to class and write exactly what he tells you to write and you will ace test that consists of 10 excerpts you analyze.
Oh My Gosh, absolutely one of the brightest people I have ever met in my entire life. Take this class if you want to learn from someone who knows his S***. Dont take this class just b/c you have a requirement to fill. Attendance and good note taking skills are a MUST, as well as wit and intelligence. Dont even THINK about slacking.
HARDEST FRIKKIN CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN!! But worth it. This guy knows his stuff. Don't go to slack off, or if you're dumb..he'll make fun of you! Good sense of humor, willing to help if you TALK TO HIM! Write down everything, pray! or you wont pass his tests! Gives a great perspective...helps in future classes!!!
GREAT class! He is the most engaging and witty professors I've ever had. I learned a lot about myself in the class. His tests are hard if you don't study using his study guide that he hands out. You can't miss more than 3 classes or your grade starts dropping. There was not one dull moment in class, I think he is well worth taking!
I had him for a monday night class last spring and he was hard but I learned more from him than I have from any other prof. His class is so worth while and I love literatue now. He helps you think and you have to think in order to pass this class

Hardest tests I've ever taken but worth it. Not only is he one of the smartest people I've ever met, he is unquestionably the funniest. You might cry over the tests, but you'll be laughing till it hurts every other day. He has the best stories: woodchuck chasing, rabbit breeding, shooting geese. He's amazing.
I have had Strong for two different classes.... ive always thought he was a great teacher. If you do your work, show up to class, and take good notes you will be good to go
I'm not an english major, but I LOVED Prof. Strong. He is engaging, funny, and very knowledgable!
I thank the Scientists of Xanadu (or whatever L. Ron Hubbard wants us to thank *grins*) for professors like Dr. Strong. I felt cheated by the fact that I didn't take his class until my senior year. He requires you to learn - not just facts, but relevant concepts. And I'd be remiss not to mention that I'm more than a little bit smitten with him.
Hilarious! Best english Prof I've had. Is extremely knowledgeable and has you laughing from beginning to end of the semester. And you have to hear the "best story" about when he was a park ranger.
Strong is a very funny, knowledgable guy. Although his class is very hard, I believe that this man is one of the best Lit professors ever. I made a C in the class when I am used to making A's and B's, but he has taught me more than any other lit professor.
He is very funny, but makes sure you understand everything.
Non-Eng majors beware. Strong is an awesome lit teacher but he makes you work. If you're not good at analysis, take someone else. Strong's classes are entertaining and you'll look forward to going every week. Ask for help at any time, and he'll give it. Don't take if you have issues w/being teased - it's all lighthearted, but some can't handle.
The best teacher, but diffcult. If you have the chance to take him, JUST DO IT
Awsome professor! 1st professor that ever REALLY taught us how to write in college. He makes the class very interesting and you will laugh throughout the semester. He does make a lot of jokes and never means anything personal so don't take any jokes seriously. Just keep yourself light-hearted! I highly recommend taking his class.
He is very difficult and its very tempting to drop at first. However, it was my favorite most fun class to go to! his tests are hard but if you actually study like he says, you should be fine. i think im going to get a B and i suck at analyzing...take him!...hes hilarious!
Strong is a hard professor but completely worth it. He really makes you think and relate analyzing lit to everyday concerns and themes. He is HILARIOUS!!! One of my favorite lit professors @ UTTYLER. Take him!!! You will learn SO MUCH!!
The class is difficult and does require studying. However, it is the most fun and interesting class to actually attend. His tests are hard, but like he says he gives you ALL the information you need...go to class! I am horrible at analyzing but it was my favorite class last semester!
Very funny man. Class is worth attending- plus, you have to if you want a chance at passing. Tells almost everything to write on the test, but they are pretty hard if you're not good at anaylyzing (which im not) He's very helpful if you ask him. He gives help during the tests also.
This was by far the most fun I had in any class at UT Tyler. He made it worth attending, which his attendance policy would make you. Yes, it was hard but I learned so much from the course that will help me in life. He will "spoon-feed" the materials that will be on the test, but study and read the materials. He loves to tell stories!!!!
I have had Professor Strong for MANY English/Lit classes. he is the BEST English teacher at UTT by far! VERY FUNNY, Class is hard but he does that to weed out the slackers. TAKE HIM!
He thinks his tests are easy, but is unclear on what he wants.
Professor Strong is my FAVORITE teacher! He is funny so he keeps you entertained. His tests are NOT easy but he allows you to ask 3 questions during the test. He is the MOST helpful and understanding person who really cares about his students. I would recommend him to anyone. Plus he kinda looks like David Cross with the humor to back it up!
Dr. Strong is very funny and entertaining in class. His test are pretty easy and he let's you know what is going to be on the test. You do need to attend class because his lecture is important if you are going to succeed.
Dr Strong is the best professor you would ever find. He is very easy and hilarious! he has jokess for days. I loved every bit of his class. TAKE HIM!
LOVED HIM!!! He is very funny and keeps class interesting. He does tell off the wall stories but they are worth it. Test are only like 7 questions but he tells you what to study. I would take him again if I had to!
Very helpful!! But you must be in class!! If you miss and get behind Good Luck!!
Extremely helpful, and an all around swell guy. Loved going to class because he made literature really interesting. Follow his guidelines, and use your three questions during tests their extremely helpful. You'll be fine if you just ask for help.
Doctor D's classes are better than a good vacation.
Dr. Strong has a good sense-of-humor and keeps class interesting. Brit Lit is not an easy class, but it is possible to get a good grade through effort.
Dr. Strong is a very funny and entertaining lecturer. The problem me and many of my classmates ran into are his exams are so hard. And I am a good student! you have 2 mini homeworks basically worth nothing and then your whole grade is based on the 3 exams. You do get three questions per exam so use them and use them wisely. Hard class overall.
Dr. Strong is without a doubt the best professor at UTT. He is absolutely hilarious, and does an amazing job of making all Lit. interesting. As long as you go to class, his exams are not hard at all. He tells you the analysis you need to provide on all of the exams in lecture, so make sure you attend.
My favorite professor of all time. He makes what could easily be really boring material and makes it super interesting. He tells frequent and funny jokes.
I came in to this class tired of English classes and of literature but Dr. Strong made this literature class interesting and fun. He tells a lot of jokes and life stories that keep class fun and they also relate to the material he is covering. BEST teacher at UTT. Hard material but if you actually go to class and pay attention you will be fine
Professor Strong makes his class interesting. He is very willing to help you as long as you go talk to him. I worked hard for the B I got. Doesn't give many grades so you have to do well on your test. Go to class, take good notes, and talk with him and you will do fine.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class. It was very interesting, however the tests are pretty difficult. I suppose to helps to study with a group, I don't know. I really liked coming to class, even though it was a morning class.
The class grade consists of three (3) tests. Really really hard tests. Just going to class will not make you pass. You have to take notes and study hard. The guy is funny but has a somewhat dry humor. Bottom line, if you aren't a good test taker and you don't get dry humor, don't take this class. Other than that, he's great.
Dr. Strong is extremely knowledgeable in Shakespeare. His lectures are long, but homework is concise. He, by far, has the quickest turn-around getting assignments graded. He is a VERY hard grader which is almost a downfall. Honestly, I would be hesitant to take another class of his.
Hilarious and fun, but definitely a difficult class. Do not take if you are terrible at English. Requires a lot of participation and analyzing of hard poems. Tests are impossible to study for, so you better hope you understand everything he says in class.
Not a good teacher. Teaches one thing and then expects something else on the tests. Inappropriate comments not relating to the subject being discussed. I WILL NEVER take this teacher again. He tried but failed at being funny. This is an entry level class but he expects grad level answers.
Had a bad temper. Would suggest one thing, then turn around and be upset if you didn't go with his suggestion for your paper. Content was extremely fun though. His insight on it was excellent, but not an approachable professor at all.
Prof. Strong seemed like a nice guy but he was by far the hardest grader I've ever had for an English class and I'm a senior who transferred from a liberal arts university. He does give good feedback, but he doesn't hesitate to throw around 50's or 60's.
Dr. Strong is not very patient if a student does not think like he does. He does not mind telling students they are wrong, even if they are on the right path. This could be good for you, or terrible. It all depends on your learning style. I recommend visiting with him before taking one of his classes. He'll love it, and you'll meet a cool guy.
If your GPA is all that matters to you, then I would suggest steering clear of Professor Strong. If you want to read more critically, write more clearly, and learn invaluable academic skills, then take Strong. In other words, if you care about the quality of your education, do it! Also, hes hilarious.
Very tough grader. The only way to pass his class is to take very detailed notes. Only answer his questions exactly with his answers. DO NOT DEVIATE. do not skip. You will do some heavy reading, and don't think Sparknotes will help. His tests consists of him giving one line from the book and you must know exactly what book, what part, and analyze it
Dr. Strong gives low grades for anything outside his rigid formula for an essay. There is no room for deviation from his expectations, and he is extremely condescending when providing feedback, acting as though he simultaneously knows way more than you and also that you're unintelligent if you don't get his POV.
Strong is one of the hardest teachers you'll ever take I really enjoyed his class though I appreciated that he pushed me to think critically and to analyze poetry and life in a way that makes sense Several times in the semester I thought i can't do this I'm literally incapable of doing this and I did it and I've learned so much
Beware, if you don't like participating in class, Dr. Strong isn't for you. I thought the class style was fun and the exams really taught me text analysis in a practical way, 10/10 recommend
This was by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Dr. Strong really pushed me out of my comfort zone in terms of participation and critical thinking, but it pushed me to be a better student. I didn't like his teaching at first, but by the time the semester was over, I developed a sense of respect for him that I didn't have before. I learned a lot.
I heard some minor horror stories about how hard his classes were before taking this course, but I ended up LOVING the class. You have to come to class, or you will not pass his class. But you won't regret going! He makes every class entertaining and enjoyable. His tests are based entirely off of what he teaches in class, so take good notes!
I took his online grad class on Milton during the summer semester. He was tough at first! Once I understood what he was looking for in a paper, I did just fine. He provides very detailed feedback, and excellent video lectures each week. I honestly learned a lot from Dr. Strong and would take his class again.
Great professor, makes class entertaining. if you don't show up to class you wont pass. Test are difficult and you only get graded by a few assignments, mostly all exams. be prepared to take a lot of notes.
I've taken Prof. Strong a few times and you will never have a better and more knowledgeable English prof. He is really funny and makes going to class a lot of fun, however, his tests are pretty difficult and that's your ENTIRE grade. Show up, ask questions, listen and you'll learn A LOT.
This was the most soul-crushing course I have ever spent money on. If your analysis differs from his, you don't get full points. I have never felt so broken while writing my assignments. I would feel very proud of my work and would have lots of textual evidence to back up my arguments, and then I was told I was wrong. At analyzing the text.
Dr. Strong is awesome. Loves making jokes and wants the class to joke around too. Gives clear understanding of what he wants you to learn and think about. Brings modern day life into the perspective of 500 year old texts. Do the work and make intelligent arguments in your literary analysis. Youll pass without a doubt.
Okay, here's the thing,I took his class twice and I like him as a person but not as a professor. He'll make you laugh in class and then you'll go home and cry. Made me second guess my major, which sucks cause I pushed through and LOVE my other classes. Also get ready to be degraded and receive a low grade if you have a different opinion than him.
Dr. Strong's class was one of my least favorite while at this school. He would provide feedback that was nothing short of belittling and when an attempt was made to improve the things that you changed according to his wishes were wrong again. He had unclear grading criteria and loved talking down to his students.
Dr. Strong is a challenging professor. Taking his classes made me smarter not only in his courses but also in all other classes. Many students decide from one class if they love his style or hate it- it's 100% worth trying at least one class with him. You might find your new favorite professor! The workload is light and he's easy to meet with.
I would not take this this class with professor Strong if you are a freshman. He belittles me and makes me feel like a complete idiot every day. I leave his class with so much anger each day, it is not worth it. He is one of those guys that is always right he thinks he's god and never considers you genuine thoughts and answers.
I have taken two of Dr. Strong's classes and would take him again. He expects intelligent, thoughtful analysis from you but gives you the information you need to pass. The homework load is light. Usually, he gives two tests per semester. If you show up with a good attitude to learn he will value that. I gained a multitude of skills in his classes.
Strong is funny & makes class enjoyable, but sometimes I find he takes his jokes too far which I can tell makes the class uncomfortable. Especially when it comes to topics of depression, suicide, and addiction. His interpretation of the poems are the only right answer, and if you are not saying exactly what he is thinking, you're wrong.
Doesn't give good feedback or examples which makes the grading criteria unclear.
I loved Professor Strong! He makes the class enjoyable and tells you exactly what you need to know for tests. I learned a lot from him. However, there are five assignments: 2 homeworks and 3 tests. The homework is worth 10% and tests are worth 30% each, so if you are not a great tester or don't participate, I would not recommend taking this course.
Very particular.
Not helpful to students. He would be asked a relevant question that everyone in the class needed to know the answer to and then wander into a personal story and never answer the question. Also, if you have a differing opinion than him, he will spend the entire semester making fun of and degrading you. Only C I have gotten in three years of College.
Very bigoted view points. Me and another Trans student were constantly misgendered/ deadnamed. Will say something sexist and expect you to laugh. All he wants to hear from you is exactly what he said in the lecture. If you wanna pass only say things verbatim to what he has said.
Very enjoyable readings and literature gone over in the course and through the lectures you can tell he is actually really passionate and knowledgable over these while trying to explain every detail as fine as he can. A tough grader but seems like a nice guy wanting to share his passion.
Do not do it. If you care about your mental health.
He does not care for individual opinions; only his answer is correct. He grades like a math class for such a subjective subject and course. He is also weird around female students, sexist, and he does not care about you. He expects you to have hundreds of lines memorized, nd you spend half the test just looking for where the quotes are.
Very unclear guidelines for grading. If there was only one professor I could recommend that you do not take under ANY circumstances, it would be this guy. I would be cautious if you absolutely have to take his class and accept your fate. His grading and requirements are so unclear, and he believes it's his way or the highway.
Unclear guidelines, rude.
Dr. Strong is a difficult professor to work with. He does not place emphasis on individual ideas or expression, and instead requires the regurgitation of his own view points.
Professor Strong's ENG2322 class is challenging but rewarding. Attendance is mandatory, and tests focus on in-class discussions. While his teaching style can be polarizing, Unstuck AI proved a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. Overall, an engaging yet rigorous course.
Dr. Strong is very troubling if you're a freshman. He was the last straw for me changing my degree away from English because of how he grades. It's very unclear, and he likes to assume you did something wrong because you're lazy. On the other hand, if you stay in contact and communicate with him, he will let you redo assignments.
I would recommend that anyone reading this take all of the other negative reviews extremely seriously. This professor is degrading, and harmful to the mental health of so many students. I have now changed my major because of him. Yes, he is that bad. If you need to take one of his classes to graduate, I advise that you reach out to an advisor.
Save yourself
awful professor, don't take him unless you have to. he would make weird and uncomfortable unfunny jokes out of nowhere, was very rude and degrading sometimes towards students, and is quick to fail you if you don't interpret the text the exact way he interprets it. STAY AWAY FROM HIM PLEASE IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE CANT SAY THIS ENOUGH.
As others have said, SOUL. CRUSHING. PLEASE DO NOT DO IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Guys if you are questioning whether or not to take this class please take the reviews seriously. He is awful. So awful.
As someone below me said, save yourself.
He is so mean!
I would rather take 10 math classes in a semester than EVER take this professor again. Sincerely, An English Major!
Will grade harshly if you don't interpret a text the same way he does. Write almost word for word his thoughts on a topic and you'll receive much better grade. Not an enjoyable class.
Do not take this class if you care about your sanity, he was so difficult to work with. He is a tough grader and wants you to interpret the poems the same way he does and will grade you horribly if he doesn't agree with your thoughts. I tried reaching out to him multiple time for feedback and he was completely unhelpful. Save yourself the struggle.
I regret taking this class so much, the hardest class I've ever taken. He made it 10x more difficult than it should've been and is COMPLETELY unhelpful. He also talks down on students. You're better off with another English professor.
I regret taking this class so much. Please just take any other professor. He is actually so rude.
Help yourself, save yourself. If you think to yourself, "I'll like his class!" You are wrong. He treats everyone with as little respect as possible, almost like he has to TRY to be as dismissive and helpful as possible!
He is a very harsh grader
He is very rude and makes students feel scared and unwelcome to ask questions. He is unclear and has the negative reputation that he has for a reason.
Drop the class and enroll in something else to receive the credit. This class will drain your soul.
He is not open to any interpretation but his own. I studied for the final for a month and worked as hard as possible and still received a poor grade, along with the rest of the class. He is also very rude, and I do not understand how he is still teaching here.
Why are we graded by 4 things
The poems are hard and he only wants you to understand them through his eyes. It's also a 3 hour long class
He is very rude and he does not allow for students who have accommodations to actually have those accommodations. He is very mean and tells weird stories
Changed my major bc of this man
He made me write a 10 page paper 3 times and then gave me a C
BAD HORRIBLE AWFUL
He is very confusing and yet still expects students to regurgitate exactly what he says
Bro has GOT to touch grass
He made me cry!
I felt like I was in a psychology class.
He is not a nice person, and he has made several people cry in class.
I would encourage taking any other English professor at this school. All of them understand that Dr. Strong's reputation is poor for a reason.
To put it into perspective, I told a girl I was taking this man's class and she asked me if I was okay. Now I understand why she asked.
He assigns multiple exams worth large portions of your grade, but they require you to memorize insane amounts of material and then spew his own opinions back to him. He is also unkind to students, and I know about 5 people who have cried in class with him.
I don't know why some people have called this man "hilarious." If you think that embarrassing and humiliating students is hilarious then go off I guess. Worst class I've ever taken.
Pedantic, strange, mean person
He takes pride in failing students and in the awful reviews you'll find here this professors lead the most unpleasant experiences I've had in all of college. She is so needlessly rude and is genuinely terrible at her job. Not just because of her attitude, but she is all over the place and didn't even finish grading in time for us to see. Good luck
He is a terribly troubling professor in the way that he grades and approaches his students. He does not believe in any viewpoint but his own, which is hard to expect of students when you're an English teacher. I would recommend to take another professor
He is mean!
I feel like he could be more supportive
Belittles students in class
He is very condescending, and makes students feel a lot less confident about their ability to write a basic paper. He reinvents the wheel when it comes to writing, defying everything that English majors are taught. This was extremely troubling, and he was not helpful.
Also graded by few things. He wants you to copy him verbatim. This was a soul crushing course. He is a soul crushing professor. I would be surprised if he isn't let go soon.
When multiple students have reported this professor, it's shocking that the administration isn't taking this more seriously.
He grades the final paper once grades are due and after he closes the canvas course, which is yet another way for him to fail students and give them poor grades without having to justify himself.
Very harsh grader
Harmful teaching style
He made me switch my major and now I hate writing
My whole class almost staged a walk out. Please, take a different professor. I wish someone would have told me to, especially when I was new to the university. I cannot tell you how this man still has a job with the amount of times he has been reported. He will also RUIN your GPA.
Same as the other reviews. Horrible professor, hard to reach out of class, horrible feedback and traumatic in-class experiences. The university should be ashamed of themselves.
He grades very difficult, and he was my first ever C in college :/ I would take literally any other prof over Dr. Strong.
Made my love and passion for reading fade. The university needs to take the complaints surrounding this professor more seriously.
I have never met a more egotistical professor who ENJOYS* giving students bad grades than Dr. Strong. He teaches at UT Tyler yet preaches how it's "his way or the highway."
I took him in the fall and I'm still thinking about how much of a fever dream his class was. I feel far removed now, but he made me cry twice. I found him to be promiscuous to the women and I am concerned at the University's lack of concern about this. When I told my parents about things he said they thought I was lying. Avoid him if able.
Lecture heavy, very boring and he can be a bit condescending at times. Would recommended taking another professor. I would leave class depressed every day.
Dude's an absolute tool. Steer clear of this guy for real, he readily grades you on the smallest inconsistencies and raps on his freakish models like they're godsend or something. Deviating from his template is a mortal sin, as if your creativity means very little in the face of his snarky, elitist grading rubric. Don't waste your time.
You will not write your paper. You will write Dr. Strong's paper with his format and his interpretation. I have no issue with criticism, I do take issue with criticism that is pedantic and inconsistent and nearly all his critiques are. The worst prof I've ever had. Dropped. His teaching was antithetical to my values as a student. I left disgusted
He's a good professor. Yes, he has very little grades, and yes, your grade is essentially based on sharing a similar view, and yes, he will be a little silly and a little much sometimes. However, less assignments means more learning time. His viewpoint is based on research. You're regurgitating it because it's material he researches to educate you.
Whoever wrote the review below me is wrong. Listen to what the hundreds of students have said in relation to this professor. He is absolutely abysmal. You will come out of his class wishing you never came to this school, let along decided to pursue an English degree. Take anyone else, literally, anyone.
If you are interested in making your own interpretations of poetry, do NOT take Dr. Strong's class. This was the most boring coursework because, once I understood what he wanted from me (which took 3-4 weeks of failing assignments before I got it), all I did was copy word-for-word what he said in lectures. It's his way or the highway. DON'T.
He is not very kind, and the class is very boring. He will give you a bad grade to make himself feel better. It is odd. Many have complained to admin about him, but hey that's just another reason why we need to ban tenure.
Very lecture heavy and he is not very nice to his students. I brought my friend to his class one time and they decided not to take him.
If you willingly signed up for one of his classes, please drop it. If you were forced into one (like I was) get ready to want to pull your hair out every class. Very unclear grading criteria, "my way or the highway," and extremely stuck in his ways in believing he is 100% correct on EVERYTHING. Awful experience as someone who used to enjoy writing.
Professor Strong has a reputation for being a tough grader, or someone who won't allow for creativity. However, this is not the case. This is my second semester with him, I'm taking him again next semester, and he loves to hear my arguments as long as I can back it up. He is smart, and cares for his students. You just have to listen to what he says
He's very good in person
There's a reason why the review below this one chose "Rather not say" for the grade received. Each and all positive reviews for David should be viewed as a protection for his absurd behavior in and outside of class. Defending his gross behavior is a problem; he is an unconscionable person and deserves his tenure revoked. Keep your distance.
I had a different experience with Dr. Strong than some reviews here. I found him to be very helpful, caring, and funny. I learned a lot in his class. At the same time I see how he can at times be condescending. I had trouble figuring out what exactly he wanted from me on some assignments, so I went to office hours. He was very helpful then.
As long as you followed exactly what he said in class and on assignments, you could earn a strong grade. Attendance mattered. He was funny, inclusive, learned students' names, and made class fun, sometimes letting us leave early. He was kind and even allowed me to retry an assignment, though I still didn't earn the grade I hoped for. great feedback
