He did not explain well. His writing was very messy and you could barely read what he wrote on the board. He also assigns way to much homework that you have to turn in. Since I did not understand what he was teaching, the homework was impossible.
This class was extremely difficult, he taught the material so quickly and expected you to keep up with his pace almost as if everyone in the classroom already knew the subject. The homework took hours and was only worth 4 points, you had 2 of these assignments a week. I had to withdrawal because of the difficulty level he taught at.
Stroup may seem a little mean at first but really he has an odd/funny sense of humor. he assigns a lot of problems but only wants you to turn in 4 of them. if you just do those 4, you'll be fine. pay attention to his reviews for tests..they help alot! overall, an super easy class.
This class is difficult. It's a very specific math and pace is fast. He expects you to keep up with it and has a limited patience with 'stupid' (normal-level functioning) questions. He's not a bad guy, but sort of monotone and his class drags on. He doesn't really care when you turn in your homeworks and accepts late, but class is Extremely hard.
the speed of this guy is ridiculous. he expects everyone to keep up with him.. unfortunately were not all math wiz's. strange sense of humor, but it's there, barely.. as long as you pay attention (good attention) go to the tutor everyday and do all your homework you'll be fine.. :-) Good luck.. you'll need it..
I enjoy his class and find he will explain all question throughly. Just need to ask. He is very good at giving points and reviewing for tests. Class is fast paced but very easy to get a good score as long as you study and apply yourself. I enjoy this class more that Calc. 1 and find the application problems interesting. Keep up the good work.
Very good professor. Like the others mentioned, he looks very mean, however wait until class starts, he does seem to enjoy teaching, and is very gracious to the class. He actually let us write our own test (as a class) changing only coefficients in the equations. Stays after class to help, and is usually reachable in his office. Great Job Stroup!
He was a great teacher. I would like to have him as my professor again. Overall the class was fun and I learned far more than any other teacher I've had so far. I would recommend him for those who actually apply themselves to class.
PRofessor Stroup is awesome, I couldn't stand math before his class, and now I actually understand what I'm being taught. He's fun and he'll go back over something If any one doesn't understand, and He'll make time to see you out of class if you need anything.
He's a pro
Stroup is the best math teacher ive ever had in my life, I dont love math now but because of him I can stand math I only wish I had him earlier in schooling cause it woulda been much easier earlier on with him. His hw is short but math XL is A LOT, but going to class will give you clear ways of solving the problems.
Great Teacher! Easy to understand and if you cant get an A in his class then your simply not trying! Definitely Take!
This is a no b.s. calc II course. The lectures are well prepared and Mr. Stroup gives great reviews for the tests. There are ample opportunities to get high scores on quizzes and group projects and/or class games. Great teacher!
Great teacher!!! I hate math but he made it easy to understand! I even received 100% on one of my tests! Reviews similar problems that will be on test! Nice guy!!!! Thanks Mr. Stroup!!
He is VERY fast. He expects everyone to keep up to his pace. You have no time to process the problems before he is already answering them.He makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. And doesn't really encourage people to ask questions.no personality, extremely hard class.I will add the reviews are helpful for the test, but that's it!
i love math but this class sucked! i hated the teacher and somedays i didnt go becasue it was pointless. i just sat and copied the board. i felt like a robot and he went to fast. he doesnt like questions being asked and wasnt helpful. his reviews would be easy if you understood the stuff but i didnt. terrible teacher!
Super dude! Talk to him..he'll help you out!
Excellent professor. Extremely helpful. Instructions are very clear as well as his expectations. No surprises from him. Very friendly if you meet with him out of class. More than willing to help others.
Tacher seemed hard at first but actually is the opposite. There is a lot of homework on Math XL however it really does help for testing. Test's are pretty easy he gives a review sheet and it really helps. Can always use a calculator (some teachers don't allow it) and he is super lenient. I would take him again!
Excellent teacher would definitely take him again. Really helpful.
I took his class for 0960 and although he seemed really hard at the beginning of the semester it turns out he's a awesome teacher. He assigns a lot of homework but it really does help you with the tests. I wish he was teaching 1250 this semester because I would of taken him!
Stroup is an amazing teacher. He is very clear, nice, helpful, and i personally think he is funny and cute. you might think im weird for saying that but he makes math fun. i recommend him and i hope i can take more of his classes in the future <3 i expecting an A in the course. homework is short and tests are doable.
I hate math, but with this class he made it easy to follow and i actually got an A on every test. better than any math teacher i had!!
I had David Stroup for Calculus II (MATH 1620). He is a great teacher. He is a genius. He understands this material very well, and is extremely helpful. Take notes in class, come to his office hours for help, and do ALL the homework, and you should have a good understanding of the material. Professor Stroup is really a great Calculus teacher.
I have Mr. Stroup for Calc II. He is one of the best instructors I have ever had. He thinks about students first in every situation. He is very available to meet with students. Calc II is not easy, but as long as you keep up with the homework you will succeed. I highly recommend him. He learned everyone's name in our class of 50 people.
He is a total math wiz, sometimes ahead of the class. My only complaint is I wish he would of gone over the tests in class. He will help you if you need it, but the math lab really helped me, because there is always another way to do the harder problems.
He just copies from the book. I had class for two hours and it was so boring as he's very bland and textbook. Did relatively okay in the class, but I didn't need to be in class except for three point quizzes at the end. His explanations for things are confusing. He's just so boring and I hated his class.
Very helpful professor who will spend his personal time with you to make sure you get the A if you put the time and effort with him
He's an awesome person and teacher. I really liked him, really geeky but in an endearing way. He's very fair. Takes homework late and goes over it if asked in class. The tests weren't that challenging as long as you studied. Overall, pretty good professor. Not the best but he gets the job done!
He's the best. Simple as that.
I took Calc 2 with him. Awesome teacher. Very clear and enthusiastic. As long as you show up to class and do the practice tests, you should be fine. He often chooses the easier problems to put on the test which was nice. Overall a great teacher.
I had Mr. Stroup for Calc II. He was awesome. I highly recommend him as an instructor. Very helpful, and a very nice person.
Best math professor ever. He is a math genius. Breaks everything down further really well when asked to. Very considerate and thoughtful of his students. If you don't know something, ASK! Highly recommended for ANY math class. I only wish I could get him for my next 4 math classes as well.
Stroup is a great professor. He is super nerdy because he is passionate about math, but that's what makes him an excellent teacher. He is one of the rare ones that doesn't lecture you like you should already know the material. Do the required HW (not much of it) and the study guides, show up to class and take notes, and you get A's on the tests.
Mr. Stroup is a very good teacher and a reasonable man. He strives to help students pass and really tries to prepare you for the future. The material in this class is tough and will require a lot of work, but if you show up, pay attention, and do the HW, you'll do fine. He gives extremely helpful test reviews that make it very clear what to study
He is tough in that he expects you to put in work. But he also teaches clearly, and he gives extra credit galore. He is funny and personable. Once you get to know him, you'll look forward to sitting in class, studying about integrating your hundredth trig polynomial. I didn't even know much of Trig when I first took this. Great professor.
He is a very smart teacher and goes over what is needed during lectures. He tends to explain proofs which helps better understand the material. Some book questions tough, tests are medium difficulty. Study guides help narrow down what you will need to know thoroughly for exams. You will be a Calculus II pro with Stroup. Very good teacher!
There was a lot of homework, but if you do all of the homework, you will pass. The tests were exactly like the homework and the problems that we went over in class. He had a tendency to go off on tangents about different ways to solve problems that are irreverent to the class, but in general he's pretty good.
Prof. Stroup was a replacement prof halfway through the semester, and he literally saved the class. He is SUPER awkward, but an absolute genius at Calc. He is truly passionate about the subject, and will readily tackle the tough questions in the chapter. His tests will challenge you, but he prepares you well. Best Calc teacher ever.
Had him for Calc 2 and knew what he was talking about. Calc isn't my favorite subject, but helped me understand it better. Gives quite a bit of homework, but should prepare you for tests. Tests are sort of hard, but gives study guides to give you a good idea of what kind of problems to expect. Also gives extra credit to help your grade.
A lot of long homework assignments. Tests are very hard and challenging. I wish that he would give extra credits on each test for a reward and to help with a grade. Study guide for the test would've help but we don't get any.
I loved Professor Stroup! One of my favorite professors that I had. He was funny and helpful with his students. I loved his teaching style and was surprised with how well I did in a Math class since I'm not too good at math.
it as one of the most stressful class ive ever took.
Professor Stroup is pretty lenient on his students. He gives out study guides, he allows you to turn in homework late, he gives extra credit, what more could you want? I had to go for math tutoring in High School. After taking Calc 2 with Stroup, trust me he is not bad at all. If you can't pass Calc 2 at Tri-C you can't pass it anywhere.
I absolutely love professor Stroup. He is very good at explaining the problems. If he notices that students are having difficult time with any chapters... he will spend extra time on it to make sure everyone understands it. Highly recommend him.
Awesome for someone who has not had math in 15 years!! A lot of homework on math lab but it helps you get a good grade on test!! Very nice guy!! Never expect to get out early. He follows his syllabus to a "T" 5 tests and a final and he gives you reviews & does it in class (test is just like review) great teacher!! Makes it easy to understand.
Grade highly reflects your basic initial understanding in calculus as long as you are supplementarily active as a student. Just simply do not take his classes if you think input work equals direct output of reward like GPA. If you thought you had any form of intelligence but reality tells otherwise become an acountant like the rest.

I love Professor Stroup. He is like a kid. He is genius about Math. I will take him again.
HE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! I LOVED MATH UNTIL I TOOK HIS CLASS. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS!!!!!!!!!
Stroup is a calculus professor, so HE isn't hard, the CLASS is hard. He cares about his students, and is very willing to help. Gives plenty of extra credit, and even more if you ask him personally. He wants to see that you are working, so do the homework and take the projects to the tutors.
David is a phenomenal professor. I seriously can't think of a way that I could have made this class any better. His exams are straight forward, he prepares you for them, and he explains complex subjects really well. His smile is also really funny, it makes me laugh every time. I really enjoyed learning from him and will be missing his class.
He is an AWESOME professor! So helpful and extremely knowledgable. He reviews any math concepts you may have forgotten. He gives tons of opportunities to boost your grade and makes class enjoyable. He prepares you well for exams and breaks down everything into simple and easy to understand terms. I loved his class and he taught me a lot!
Little extra credit. He is a good prof just really boring and awkward, if this class can be taken online I would recommend. I didn't do well because I barely showed up. If you study the practice tests you will excel on tests. Helps out students before class. Again, if you can handle boring lectures definitely take.
Discrete Math is a tough, boring subject. But Professor Stroup does his best to explain difficult and arcane topics relative to the course. Because this course must satisfy two colleges syllabuses, it is a full 15 week course crammed into a 10 week course. This class is not for the faint of heart. Prepare to have no free time for your summer.
I took discrete mathematics in the summer and it was a nightmare. Teacher does not use the online gradebook so you never really know what your grade is. Lectures heavy and has a difficult time explaining topics to allow students (not math geniuses) understand. You will be doing homework in your sleep if you take this prof, there is so much!
Professor Stroup has class long lectures where all he does is writes on the board and expects you to copy it all down as well as retain the information with little to no explanation on what you are doing. He doesnt have you work on any problems in class. And just keeps going on with his lecture without checking if anyone in the class understood.
Unless you like boring and confusing lectures run the other way. The class is one long homework nightmare. He goes in-depth on very easy subjects (like x/y plane) but breezes through the hard stuff. At least it is easy to study for exams because he posts old tests online. Impossible to access grades.
Unless you're trying to drown yourself in homework, don't take this class. Stroup goes lecture HEAVVVVYYYYYY on little things like slope but flies through some of the hardest things. He rarely ever does test corrections but does allow homework corrections. Expect your test grades to be your grade because he will NEVER post it.
His lectures are confusing and rough. He never even gives definitions or goes in detail about anything. He will introduce a topic give the formula and one maybe two examples then move on. When ask for help he kinda just laughs then just redoes whatever he just did as if youre supposed to just get t after two times. Unless ur a math whiz , no !!!
Such an easy class. There is a lot of homework, but if you do all the homework over the weekend, you don't have to do anything during the week(easy way to pass the class). He posts old tests, so you'll exactly what will be on your test. Warning: he gives out more than one copy of each test, so dont bother cheating.
he did not help me with problems i had until after he would grade the homework. He was very bland and tough on grading.
Moves very quickly and covers one section per class. Assigns about five pages of homework after class and only grades two problems. He is condescending when asked a question and makes you feel uncomfortable. I wouldnt recommend even if you are great at math. Half of my class withdrew by the 5th week in.
Professor Stroup is an interesting character. Lectures can be long sometimes, but it's worth it. Assigns lots of homework but for a good reason. The quizzes/exams are easy assuming you pay attention in class. You'll definitely understand Calculus I by the end of the course if you take him. Highly recommend.
He is a little aloof, but if you need help just talk to him
This professor simply just CANNOT teach. Most of my knowledge comes from online resources, I retain nothing from the lectures even though I take a boat load of notes. He moves way too much, and assumes you know material that you don't. He doesn't care if you understand how to do/apply the material. Only a handful of students are bare scraping by...
Really good professor and Calc 2 is a difficult class. As long as you pay attention and actually try you'll do fine. Stroup taught the class well
Great Guy. If you are willing to put in the effort so is he.
Stroup is a great professor and I regret taking him for granted when I was in his class a year ago. He assigns a too much homework but that's the only flaw I can think of. He does a good job preparing you for the exams and giving you enough resources to learn the material. He might be a little tough, but I'd gladly take his class again.
Professor Stroup was a great teacher. The first impression of him wasn't so good, seemed a bit boring but as time went on, I learned that he was an amazing teacher and all of his work is to only benefit you. He helps a lot if you are struggling and his notes for lectures are great. Do the work and you'll get an A.
Professor Stroup does not help his students whatsoever. The majority transfer out of his class because of his lack of skills as a professor. He does not help his students with questions and is not approachable for questions on assignments and he will not help you. He is extremely rude and inconsiderate toward his students. Avoid this Professor.
The best Math teacher ever at TRI-C! Anyone who is trying to take Calc I, II, III or dfq, choose him. Very clear lectures, a lot of homework which help in building your math skills. Simply, do the homework, do the reviews before the test and that's what you'll face on the test. Go to his office hours and you'll find a great atmosphere as well!
This professor was the worst professor I've ever had. He was very reasonable in the beginning but after the first test he will fail you if you do not show his type of work instead of your own. No notes used on tests. Lots of homework. He will refer back to his Calc 1 class a lot, so if you had a different professor for Calc 1, good luck.
So far he was my best professor. Even though it was an online class with no meetings, he provided very informative video lectures and did a great job explaining how to do things. There is a substantial amount of homework, but all math classes do that in order to help you learn the material. BEST PROF AT TRI-C
He actually cares about you learning the material, which might be challenging at times. Show up to class and pay attention he gives methods that are easily repeatable on the exam. He will just switch the numbers on the exam.
Just zooms through problems from the homework list during the entire class. Impossible to actually possible to learn anything as a new student taking Calculus for the first time. Previous Calculus professor was similar in how they taught material in class, but Professor Stroup is so particular about grading tests (only his methods or you get a 0.)
Tests were extremely hard. Allowed no notes or formula sheets. Did not provide practice exams. He did exam reviews but they were all over the place and not relevant to the test. Would give zero credit on tests even if you got answer correct but didn't show work. Moved fast in his lectures. Take Calc III with someone else.
I took calc II over an 8 week summer session and enjoyed it, I'm taking calc III over 14 weeks currently and it's terrible. Stroup is not a great teacher, it's very much from the text book examples that are done without tact or clear explanation. You have to teach yourself and the amount of homework is exhausting.
Professor Stroup was an amazing professor, the lectures focus on making sure you can complete the HW and he does a great job at explaining things. He is available during office hours and is flexible if you need help outside of those times. He is a professor that truly cares about the success of his students.
Stroup has been among the best math professors I've had in my undergraduate experience. While he reviews a lot of material within each lecture, it is a 5 credit-hour course, meaning that 5 hours of lecture are expected per week combined. Make sure you have a strong background in algebra because Calculus I is 5% calculus and 95% algebra.
He was great and had no problem helping. All you have to do is pay attention and participate in the extra credit, and you will do great.
Currently taking online calc 3. There is a playlist of 35 lectures on youtube that are on average 45 mins. Theres a lengthy webassign for each video. plus a 'project' and a question to copy from every video. he grades really tough on the exams and project
Good teacher overall. In class, he teaches what you have to know and goes over some of the homework problems at the end. Good amount of homework but what can you expect from a math class lol. Complete the study sheets he gives you, they are very helpful for the tests!
I am not a math-oriented student, but I had to take stats for my major. Mr. Stroup was very kind and had a good sense of humor. He quickly answers emails, which is helpful when having questions about homework and tests. If you show up every day ask questions and participate, you will pass. There is a lot of homework but it is great for the tests.
Prof. Stroup is nice and understanding, especially if you communicate with him. But I do NOT recommend taking his classes if math is not your thing! His class is VERY lecture heavy, and I had a hard time understanding what I was doing, even though I attended every class. Also, there was so, SO much online homework that was very overwhelming!
He has a good flow of his lectures that made the concepts digestible, but you cannot blow off notes. Had to work for ~3 hours for each section of the homework (about 30 questions with 1-3 parts). He doesn't update your letter grade until the middle then at end of the semester. Had 5 minute breaks at the middle of each class.
I had professor Stroup for calculus 1 and 2 and I obviously wouldn't have taken him twice if I didn't think he would be a good teacher. Very easy to talk to and very helpful whenever you don't understand the material. He makes learning fun and understandable.
Im taking calc I and I would take Proffesor Stroup again. He is very helpful, at first you might not get it but he is always willing to help. Homework is heavy if you do not distribute your time well. All you need to do is pay attention and do some effort, like everything in life.
Professor Stroup is great! Class attendance expected and lots of homework, but in-class practice helps with tough homework questions and exam prep. He reviews past exams for review day, and his tests use the same questions with different numbers. He gave extra credit opportunities to help boost our grade. He is more than fair with expectations.
Professor Stroup is very professional, humble and down-to-earth, which is very appreciated. You don't have to be a genius at math to pass his classes, just show up, do your homework and you'll be fine. He's always looking to help students when they are struggling as long as you show some interest in the class. Great professor, fully recommended.
The math course I took was relatively easy, if you have questions he answers you and helps out. Sometimes he would get very off topic lol, but as long as your focused on your work, you will do well. Only negative about him is you cannot see your grade, if you want to see it, you have to email him.
His way or the highway... I took Calc I and II at another college, DO NOT apply different methods to solve answers, it is an immediate zero. Reported me for Academic Dishonesty because I "used other methods". Proved I was innocent and they dropped my case.. Exams are copy and paste video questions. Ungodly amount of HW per week. and 2 VQ's per week
