His first year teaching at College of Dupage. His expectations are very clear from the beginning. Do not slack off. He will quiz you and test you on lectures and labs, but if you study this class will be as expected. Gives you assignments based on what you are learning. Great teacher! Enjoyed the class very much. Attractable sense of humor is a +!
He's a great professor! Truly gives you the college experience of learning at a much higher level. He prepares you for quizzes and exams. Labs are fairly simple. Very organized and well prepared. Overall, great experience. Very motivated and dedicated professor. HIGHLY recommend him!
I have never loved science more, to be honest. The class is long and early, but it seems to go by really fast because he really does make his lectures fun and engages the class in his discussions! highly recommned him as a teacher! he truly cares about his students and their progression and is very approachable if you have a question with anything!
Taylor is one of the coolest guys you could ever ask for in a teacher. He will get mad if you slack off/sleep in class. but if your willing to give him your attention he will make things easy enough for you. I highly reccomend him
quizzes/tests were of the most highest difficulty I have ever seen. Review packets were vague, unhelpful to what was actually on the tests. His grading can be described as unbelievably neurotic. He turned a basic, non-science majors Bio class into an honors course. He was a good guy, but I would not recommend him if you want an A.
Professor Taylor gives you all you need to succeed. The exam review packet is great!! Homework really is useful, not busy work. I printed lectures off blackboard and took notes on handouts. Really helped me to have visual. Not an easy class, but you learn so much!!!
As a non-bio major, I thought this class was gonna be rough. However, Professor Taylor is an excellent lecturer; he uses plenty of examples, is very knowledgeable about what he is presenting, and speaks clearly. He grades fairly and provides the tools and framework that students require to succeed. I wouldn't recommend missing classes though.
I went to this class right after working all day, and even though I was exhausted I couldn't sleep in his class. He made the subject fun and kept my interest the entire time. Worksheets and study guides are really useful for the exams, but we never really used the book.
Interesting class, definitely print out the lecture notes and study them before quizzestests and you'll do fine. PS: He's hot and I love him
Started this class as a Meeting and Events major, leaving as a Bio major. Took the class in 12 weeks instead of 16.
I love him!! I think he's a great person and I looked forward to his 3 hour class but that being said I think this class is hard especially for a non science major.. you have to put in work to get the type of grade you want! Also there is no study guides for test so you have to use your lecture notes.
Took him in summer 2016, great professor. Teaches very well and gets you engaged in class. I recorded his lectures and went over them when I studied with the lecture slides. That's how I got my A. He's also funny, makes class enjoyable. If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class. But if you wanna learn and understand, take him.
He is an amazing TEACHER. Very good lecturer, one of the best I have had. Very clear, and he knows what he is talking about. Textbook is not necessary but it can help. He grades very tough on everything and you must study immensely for everything unless you are a natural at biology. If you want an A, you will have to work your butt off for it.
Taylor is amazing, he is helpful, caring, and super easy to talk to. You must apply yourself outside of class and study early for both tests and quizzes (fill in the blank, multiple choice, matching). Class is lecture heavy, but he is very knowledgeable and makes them interesting. Hmwrk., quizzes, notes and tests are the best study tools for class.
Love him as a professor. It's not often that you get a teacher who truly knows what he's talking about and doesn't just mindlessly follow the textbook. I've gotten good grades just using the power point, so I would say the book isn't super necessary if you are good at biology.
He is sweet. Interesting lectures. You will learn a lot. Gives study guides. He is a tough grader and btw he is german so he is very punctual.
YES! Toughest grader I've ever had but I'm a better bio student for it! Though he is extremely tough, he cares about his students and is always accessible for them. You have no choice but to work hard and put in a lot of time with this class if you want to pass. Long answer tests. No extra credit no curve. Would take again in a heartbeat!
David makes you put in work! His quizzes, tests, final are all short answer so you better know the material well. Never slack on the quizzes because its a huge part of your grade even though he doesn't stress much about it, it will help you on the test too. Pay the most attention to lecture notes and you will be golden.
I got a B in bio 1152 class, but i worked so freaking hard over the whole semester to earn this grade. He is a really hard grader. One interesting fact is his posture is kindda hilarious. Just remember to spend a lot of time on studying notes, but you may still have a good chance not doing well on those quizzes or exams. Tough class & Good luck!
If you want in A in his class, I strongly recommend you record his lectures to go over the material he talks about because everything that is on his exams and quizzes are based off that! Study the lecture notes, do the hw and ask questions! DO NOT SLACK OFF! YOU WILL REGRET IT HARD IF YOU DO AND MAY GET A C IN HIS CLASS (OR WORSE, A D).
One of the best professor's I've ever had. Pay attention in class& form good study habits. The material isn't challenging but the amount can be overwhelming. He teaches the material in a way that is comprehensible and keeps your attention. Study hard for the quizzes as they will prepare you for the short answer exams. Always there for help.
By far one of the best teachers I have taken at COD. Taylor genuinely cares for his students success. Although his tests are not easy, he is available to help and encourage you every step of the way. He has a funny obsession with Salamanders and his lectures arent boring. Show up, work your butt off, ask questions and you will get an A.
One of the very best teachers I've had at COD. Throughout the entire semester, I truly felt like he cared about me as an individual. His lectures are entertaining and jampacked with information. The tests cover a lot but if take good notes and you live and breath the life cycles and tree diagrams you'll be able to figure it out! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Reads from a power point but goes into detail and answers questions. Take notes from the p.p's and of the notes on the board and study those for tests and quizzes. Book only helps homework, not to study. Labs are mostly easy. If given chance, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. I took the 3 hour lecture and surprisingly enjoyed it. Material heavy, but take him.
By far the best professor I have taken at COD. Truly cares about his students, is an easy-going person and don't be afraid to ask questions. Exams and quizzes should be a breeze as long as you put some effort into taking notes and reviewing. Had alot of fun in his labs, but be prepared when the final comes around. Also speaks german!
He cares a lot about his students and really loves biology. However his course is very difficult, he wants you to know the material and does not provide any study guides. If you want an easy A this is NOT the class to take. All of his text and quizzes are fill in the blank and very few multiple choice.
Professor Taylor is a great teacher and a great person that really cares about his students and Biology. Having said that, this class is very difficult and you will have to put a lot of time out of class. Be ready for the lab practicals especially if you have never taken one. He is very helpful out of class and you will learn biology.
A really wonderful teacher. He is deeply passionate about the subject matter and cares a lot about his students. I just barely got an A in this class, but what worked for me was making online flash cards for all of the lecture material. The tests are all written. He also gives stickers which is adorable. Super organized and well structured class.
Lecture heavy, difficult lab practicals, and very hard grader when it comes to lab reports. With that being said, this class Is no breeze and will require a lot of work outside of class.
I don't like him at all. He is a tough grader. His lab practice such as a hill. a lot of tests and quizzes which makes you lose many points. The questions are so tricky. If you couldn't memorize all his power points and lectures don't take him. It's too many papers and homework, so be ready for work very hard. Don't advise anyone to take him.
Good prof, loves Bio to death. That being said he expects the same from you. Like many others said, if you slack off on ANYTHING you will never get that A. Short answer tests/quizzes should be expected. Write everything down from the lecture, EVERYTHING. Practicals, study the diagrams and take photos for review. SHOW UP it's necessary for that A.
David is the best biology teacher at COD. He doesnt answer questions he doesnt know and is honest about the material. During lecture he will say what is important to study and what is not. His class is no joke, be ready to study but you will be a better biology student because of his class. Highly recommend if youre willing to put in the work!
Lots of lectures, about 8 quizzes total with 4 tests and a final. Nice guy, makes class as fun as possible, I would take again
David is probably my overall favorite teacher at CoD. He warns his students on the first day that Biolo-1152 is a difficult class because of the wide array of topics covered in it, but he will stop at nothing to help you understand what you're having trouble with. He's also incredibly funny and puts some funny pictures on his PowerPoint slides too.
His class is definitely not an easy A! to get an A on quizzes and exams you have to review all the lecture slides more tan three times, meaning you have to be solid wit hall the information. you DO NOT need the book at all. I studied from his slides and got an A. He told me he looks at his slides while making exams not the book.
Professor Taylor is SUPER passionate about biology and really cares about his students. You have to spend time outside of class to pass. As long as you study, do the homework, show up to class, and communicate when you don't understand/need help, he will do everything to help you.
Amazing and passionate professor! His lectures are interesting. There is only 650 points in the course which includes grades from quizzes, tests, 3 lab practicals and a lab report. There is no extra credit and no curves. Will need to study A LOT outside of class. His quizzes and tests are free response so you better know your stuff. Good luck!
Lots of quizzes, around 4 tests. Gives you a study guide for each test but only around 40% of the study guide is on the test. Very frustrating. Lots of short answer questions on each quiz/test. Dont take him unless you love biology and plan on studying for days. He is very passionate about bio and expects you to be the same. VERY VERY HARD CLASS
Professor Taylor is really one of the best professors there is in COD. He is very understanding and his lectures are interesting. Make sure to use the optional assignments on BB before quizzes and tests, some of the questions are very similar. Take advantage of office hours. His lecture slides are sufficient to get a good grade. Take note in class
Okay so who knows if I'll see Taylor again because of this virus. For the time I learned from him, it was great! His lectures are amazing and he truly cares about his students. Would I take this class again though? No. You have to review his slides over 3 times each to get a good score on his exams. Even then it's not a promise you'll receive a B+.
1152 made me feel like I was in Med School. David is extremely passionate/knowledgable about his subject AND a tough grader. Lecture is clear and beautifully delivered, but exams are extremely hard. He combines a lot of different material in one exam, making it very difficult to study. NOT an easy A, B or C. Would never take it again though.
Biology as a whole is a really tough subject to take as one of your gen eds when you won't actually be using it for your major, so yes this class is pretty hard. But for how hard it is, David does a good job of trying to make it make sense in his lectures. However, the tests are hard and he's a tough grader. Big time commitment, so be careful.
Dr. Taylor is the best! He gives out lecture notes that are used for quizzes and exams. Obviously you have to work hard for this class, his quizzes and exams are combination free response and multiple choice, so you really have to know the material. Very accessible out of class and wants to see students succeed!
Professor Taylor is a-okay second option professor. His lectures are good and tests are hard but fair (Except the final). However, his labs are unorganized and left all students confused on what was going on. No extra credit and you are graded almost entirely on tests and quizzes which are 2/3 open-ended. He would be my 2nd or 3rd choice.
He was the best and the worst professor, I liked his teaching and all but his tests, lab practicals, and especially finals are unreasonably hard. It made me feel useless. He is accessible outside and will sit down and talk to answer your questions. Just remember he says you don't have to read the book but you do to understand the material because..
man, if u don't like heavy duty school work, don't take him. puts A LOT of detail into tests. nuh uh. he's nice tho, but like when it comes to tests, that's when you're gonna hate him.
I loved Prof. Taylor. The class is very heavy with material but no matter what Prof you have it will be. Taylor is great at keeping lectures interesting and helping you understand the topic. No matter what, be prepared to work. I would take Taylor again, you can tell he cares for each of his students and wants to see you succeed.
For the VCM class we had pre-recorded lecture videos to watch. He uploads powerpoints with blanks to fill in to follow the lecture. Will not make you dissect if you get nauseous. He also was very understanding, I had a death in the family and he offered to let me take the test at a later date (I had only asked for an extension on homework)
If you are looking for a professor that actually helps you learn, Taylor is your guy. But if youre looking to not put in much effort and get an easy A with 0 gain in knowledge, dont take him. He is working on his doctorate so he knows his stuff incredibly well. Hes organized, attentive, understanding, supportive, and has amazing lectures.
This class was difficult, but if you apply yourself and put the work in you will succeed. He is easy to communicate with and genuinely wants all of his students to succeed. Great professor!
Professor Taylor is an absolute GEM! The most caring professor I had a class with at COD. Hes lectures are amazing. Make sure you attend to office hours. He always has great advice to give. His class truly changed me for the better. I cant explain how grateful I am for all his help.
Dr. Taylor is both an excellent teacher & individual. His friendly & helpful personality makes class very welcoming, while his coherent teaching style & passion for biology can cause even disinterested students to become curious about the subject. His exams are quite rigorous, but they ultimately help you understand the material on a deeper level.
David Taylor is a super nice professor. His exams are a little tough and you definitely need to study for them but he is super helpful during labs, and outside of class. He is super nice and actually cares about his students and their success. He gives a good amount of work so staying on top of your work is very important but he is understanding.
He is really nice and is helpful. Quizzes and tests are tricky though so you have to study. Overall, his lectures are not that bad and can be interesting at times.
He is a really nice and caring professor. He gives a decent amount of hw but his quizzes and tests are very detailed so staying on top of your work and making sure you understand everything is extremely important. He is super helpful and understanding as well.
I loved him. His enthusiasm made the content interesting. Most of your grade is comprised of exams and quizzes, which are both VERY detailed. Study his lectures very closely to do good on them. Labs are easy.
the class is TOUGH however he is very clear on what will be on exams. dont be scared by some of the comments about exams on here. if you put in the work youll definitely pass. the exams are tricky and you do have to understand the material well. but the questions are to get you thinking, not to trick you. everything he asks you is in his lectures.
i really enjoyed this class and actually understood the content. there wasnt a lot of work: 2 easy wksts for each chapter, some quizzes, and 3-4 tests. if you watch the lectures and take notes, youll do well, just pace yourself. i just studied my notes well and the tests were easy to me. i would def take again for other bio classes
He was great, when i took it we were still in lockdown and were only allowed to be in class for lab. The lectures were recorded and there was no lecture but his recordings were great! He made them in engaging. During lab he made himself available and helped each student. Overall a great person who's kind and friendly. Just make sure you keep up.
I loved David, he was a fantastic professor. The only thing was sometimes his tests and quizzes were a little difficult where some stuff on there I didnt remember seeing in his lectures.
David was an amazing instructor very caring and willing to work with you. He is super understand and wants you to succeed. he does have a lot of quizzes but I honestly feel like they really helped me prepare for the tests that he gives. His lectures were easy to understand and he is very willing to work with you.
He was a really good teacher his lecture notes were awesome but you do need to read a lot in order to fully understand the material in my opinion. I always did good on quizzes but the test were hard but fair. Definitely would take his class again. You do have to let him know you will be absent or else you can't retake or do labs
Tough class but David is a GREAT professor. All of the info for lecture tests is directly from the lectures in class; I never read the textbook. He loves bio, answers emails & phone calls for questions, & is great at explaining. Lab practicals require memorization, but that's for any bio lab. Tests/quizzes are clear & he writes notes on each one.
David was by far the best professor I've had. He cares so much about you, and gives his cell number to students. He has a lot of quizzes, but they are helpful for the exam. Lab practicals are hard. He offers great feedback and his lectures are entertaining. He gets to know students on a personal level, and has resources to help you achieve goals.
Professor Taylor is hands down the most passionate professor I have met thus far. Coming from someone interested in the molecular side of biology and biochemistry, his lectures kept me engaged, and I genuinely enjoyed the content. There were 6 quizzes, 4 exams, 1 final, and 3 lab practicals, but as long as you are consistent, you'll do well.
David is the most humorous and enthusiastic professor so far I met at COD. I believe he could've made the quiz and exams easier, which he didn't because he really cares about u and ur future, so he motivates u with hard ones. He doesn't wanna give u an easy A and u learn nothing. He teaches u how to study! Please take him if u wanna improve yourself!
Amazing teacher, lectures quite a bit but that's because he wants you to succeed and get ready for the real world. I never took an anatomy class or biology or anything and i learned a lot. Very understanding and HE WILL work with you just ask for help. Responds to emails FAST. Always on top of grading. Lectures are heavy but clear. Labs very clear.
David is really chill and super funny. His lectures are interesting and he cares about his students. The content itself is kind of difficult, so studying a lot is essential.
best STEM professor i've had, you'll learn a lot from him and his lectures. very encouraging and wants u to succeed (all you have to do is ask). lectures are very clear and organized. he has several quizzes but those prepare u for exams. overall, he's a great guy and is very knowledgeable on the subject which makes class fun. take him!!!
Professor Taylor is an awesome teacher! He's very personable and caring! He makes lectures engaging while still being informative. He's also super accessible outside of class, which was nice to be able to ask further questions. If you have trouble keeping up with lectures, take his class! You won't be bored!
Amazing teacher, very passionate about Biology. There is a lot of study and memorization, but as long as you constantly study, you should be good. Make sure you take some extra notes while he's lecturing so that way you understand the concepts better. Exams and quizzes are all based on the lectures.
Find another teacher. Yes, he's a nice guy, but does not give clear instructions what to learn for tests. Other teachers have lecture outlines. Most of the class fails lab exams and there are no curves. Much quiz and test material, he says in lecture, but are not on the lecture slides.
Professor Taylor is fantastic. He is easygoing and cares about you and helping you in any way that you may need. He is motivating and his lectures are awesome. He does not have assignments outside of class so you have to make sure you have the discipline to study on your own. His quizzes and exams are very fair. Take his class!!
David Taylor is amazing! He helped make a subject that I'm only taking for the lab science credit be bearable and admittedly I'm not a super good student and he's very helpful and approachable if you need help on the material. In retrospect I should've gone for more help, but I recommend him.
Difficult class, prof uses books, attendance is mandatory, and it's hard to catch up. However, he gave great lectures and made the material easy to understand. If you are ready and can stau ontop of it, it's a good class.
He is very passionate about biology, so if you actually want to learn something then by all means take this class. Definitely not an easy "A". Only thing in grade book is quizzes, lab practicals and exams, no extra credit. He is a great guy but man is his class hard. Nearly lost my sanity this semester. PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURE
nice guy, but i do not recommend taking him if you aren't up to taking a class that feels like a fulltime job.The class average was a 73% this semester.left in the middle of the course, put all the work load on us as he was out of the country for 1week and a half. you must rely on labwork, exams and quizzes for your grade. no homework/extra credit
Great guy and very passionate about environmental science; but wasn't expecting it to be so in-depth, especially for a "bio 2 class". Gives no extra credit, no study guides, lecture notes are very long and never know what will be on the test, quizzes, or lab practical. If you like that type of science take him 1000%, if not choose someone else.
I enjoyed taking David's class! its difficult so be ready to spend a lot of time outside of class on everything. This course covers a lot In a very short period of time which makes it as difficult as it is but as long as you have a good attitude and are ready to learn you'll be perfectly ok. Just know you'll spend a lot of time outside of class.
I don't think anything in this class is hard or difficult, but what makes this class hard is the amount of material to cover that is new. David has office hours and will answer all of your questions. If you want to do well in this class you will have to put in a lot of time and effort.
BIO1152 with Professor Taylor is a hard class to take. If you miss even one lecture day, consider yourself very behind because the amount of lectures and materials is given in one singular day, it's very hard to come back from it. He is very specific in the way he grades thing. You have to be very clear in how you word things to get full credit.
This was a very difficult class given that bio is my least favorite science, but Prof. Taylor is very passionate and gives amazing lectures with clear examples. You must pay attention and STUDY FOR THE LAB PRACTICALS!! Be precise in your wording; his tests really focus on the big picture which is hard for me as I focus on the details.
No extra credit. No review guides no nothing. If you have other classes to worry about studying for this class will be torture.
David is a good professor, he is very specific on his tests, make sure to study for lab practicals. I spent more outside of class studying weekly than I did in his actual class and ended with a C. I love biology and he is a good teacher, I just did so poorly on the tests and lab practicals that it brought my grade down. Must show up to class!!!!!!!
There are so many tests in such a short amount of time, but I do think it's manageable. I definitely think lab practicals are easier than exams!!! I would say to DO the work and MAKE time to study, and it shouldn't be hard to get at least a B. I will say though, he does his BIG one with the powerpoint slides; it helps SOOOO much. xoxoxoxo GL!
David amazing professor, highly recommended, his lecture is challenging but very useful. he explain the material in amazing way. office hrs are useful. to succeed in this class you should take notes they're important for exams&quizzes. final exam was very interesting. easy lab practical. my English not very good and he was very patient with that.
This is a class in which you will learn a ton if you are willing to work! Professor Taylor will help you a ton if you go see him.
Professor Taylor truly deserves the hype; His lectures are engaging, he's attentive in lab, and his office hours are useful for any additional questions! This class can be challenging if you don't properly prepare, but putting the time in makes for a rewarding experience!! I've learned so much thanks to David and I'd recommend him to anyone!!!! :)
This class was really enjoyable. The lectures are great but are heavily packed with information. This class is hard but as long as you put in the work and study then you will be fine. Exams are tough so make sure to really study, same with the lab practicals. Prof Taylor is very nice and brings in a lot of energy. Great class overall :)
Prof Taylor is good you are just graded on few things. No extra credit or study guides which was challenging for me. There are 4 tests however only 1/4 of the material learned is on the exam, it is really hit or miss for exams you also need to be specific with answers. Overall, you will be spending a lot of time outside of class studying.
Professor Taylor was an amazing professor! The class is composed of tons of material from lecture slides, make sure to be attentive in every class. Labs were super fun and consisted of practicles that were super helpful with the exams as well. I really enjoyed the set up of this course and Prof. Taylor was super understanding.
Professor Taylor is amazing! Focus on understanding the material conceptually, utilize all available resources (like reviews concepts/crosswords) and reach out to him if you need help. Understand you are responsible for teaching yourself materials and taking good notes esp in lab. Attend GSG if possible/available. No study guides, no extra credits.
There was a textbook but not needed to read to get an A, (I didn't touch the textbook at all) Attend lectures and labs. If you attend then you will understand the slides as he explains them well. Take notes and study and you'll be fine. I was able to get away with reviewing my notes the day before and still do well. Put in work and you'll do fine.
