The best teacher I have ever had
No Comments
Overall Great. Enthusiastic, helpful, & Tests arent too hard
His teaching is very unclear and extremely boring! Don't take his class!!!
Nice guy, Does his best to keep things interesting.
hard as hell, vague & tricky tests, not recommended
Tricky tests! Awesome lecturer. Love the jokes!

Don't sit in the fron row unless you wear a poncho. Other than that he was a fine teacher.
his lecture was very interesting. his class is well organized.
marketing research in itself isn't interesting, but prof. paul did a great job of keeping things interesting. very enthusiastic and engaging speaker.
So frikken boring. Waste of my time.
Funny jokes, does his best to keep things interesting, but anywhere from vague to stupid tricky questions on the tests, pay attention to what he says in class, and careful on the tests.
Not helpful! Called on the same people everyday. Tricky test questions and unfair grading of papers/projects. The jokes were bad! The hand gestures during the lectures were the most entertaining party of the lectures.

Very interesting & enjoyed it...learned so much about marketing too. A lot of people think he tough because they didn't go to class or they didn't pay attention to him in class. If you listen, you will noticed many test questions are from his lectures.
a very good looking man, and i enjoyed the class

His tests are impossible!
Best marketing prof at O-State. Go to class and listen a little and you will like him, never a dull moment.
Just a mean person!
Horrible class. According to him, there is only one answer and it is never what you give him. His grading has no rhyme or rythum. Avoid him if at all possible and you will save yourself from alot of headaches.
Great instructor who is really devoted to teaching.
IF you really want the A in the class, record every lecture you attend even if your sober and listening. I got a B even missing a bunch of easy questions, there's a huge curve, a 27/40 was a B-.
Best advice I can give you... find outher people who have taken the class before you and study their old tests. A lot of the questens get taken off of those. Also, don't miss an exam... you have to take an essay test after the final if you do.
Great lecturer, but his tests are ridiculous. Roughly a fourth of the questions are from random facts presented in class and most of the rest are from obscure passages in the text. Doesn't provide a study sheet. Lectures are well presented though.
Business students are idiots. The exams are multiple choice, and there's extra credit! If you go to class you will get an 'A', if you skip probably end up with a 'B'. The material is pretty boring, and the lectures aren't much better. Decent tech elec, but not a complete blow off like most business
If you have the old tests, take his class. If you do not have his old tests, don't even bother (the people with them kill the curve). He asks very specific questions about pointless facts in the text. Maybe he's crazy, but the multiple choice questions have several correct answers.
Boring, didn't care at all
not too bad but boring like all the other business minor classes
The guy can be annoying. He is knowledgeable. The extra credit can help you out big time.
Awesome professor. His lectures were very educational and interesting. This class was the best class I took. Tests require a lot of memorization, you would need to read the book and go to class.
Wanted to hit him with my shoe, or a large trout. Lectures were soo borning and yet very vaulable. Go to lecture to pass the test, also read book and check his lectures online. Seriously I almost failed. He asks stupid questions, watch out. Only good thing is he uses "fuzzy math" to grade, BIG curve.
GET THE OLD EXAMS!! Another thing do the bonus points, this can boost your grade by one whole letter grade!! Easy class with the bonus.
class was boring and he repeated himself a lot. The tests were hard, get old exams.
Very easy class. Prof. knows his stuff.

He's great. Helped me with recommendations and all. Just get to know him.
hard tests.
Lectures are extremely boring but you must attend them because 1/2 of the material on his all multiple choice tests comes from the random little comments he makes in lecture and the other 1/2 come straight from the text book. GET THE OLD TESTS...this is crucial in order to do well..he takes about 1/3 of the questions on his exams from old tests!
I thought his lectures weren't that boring, considering that he is really interested in what he does and tries to motivate students to like it. Having the old tests does help with studying and test taking, but you can also get some Extra Credit. Overall, I would say go to class, study your notes, maybe look over old exams and you'll be fine.
His lectures can be really boring (make sure you're always sitting up straight or else its very easy to fall asleep, even in the first row, like i did). He offers a lot of bonus opportunities, which can boost you a whole letter grade. He also has an easy curve, a 50% is a D. Just read the book carefully and study old exams, if you have them.
Very interesting lectures, never read the book and still got a B. Tests are tricky, make sure you study for them.
Lectures are incredibly boring but you must attend them because a lot of his test questions come from things he says during class. it is important to read the book also. tests are curved and you can earn a good amount of extra credit.

Old exams will help alot
Material is easy, but he doesn't go over the book and you still have to know it. Tests are a little tricky. The only grade you have is 3 tests. Not comprehensive. If you miss an exam can take it at any time. VERY BORING LECTURE
Dr. Paul's test were hard as hell. His lectures are boring and you have to know the book material in depth to even have a chance of getting a good grade on his tests. Lots of extra credit, though.
He asks specific things he said in lecture in class on his difficult tests. I resorted to recording lectures and listening to them again before the exams. He's tough.
The tests are really hard and specific. He wants u to read every word in the textbook and remember everything he said during the lectures. Gives a lot of bonus point opportunities though. Avoid if u can.
The tests aren't the easiest but they def not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. As long as you aren't an idiot you should be able to get an A- without trying...just do the extra credit. Old tests help a ton.
His tests aren't the easiests things in the world but their not as hard as everyone says they are. Try and get old tests, and read/skim the book, he gets a bunch of questions from there.
Write down EVERYTHING he ever says in lecture, read every word of every chapter covered, and do all the extra credit you can. He takes pride in the fact that nobody has ever gotten a perfect on any exam he has given. Unfortunately, he is the only option students have for 650.
I loved this class. You have the option of earning 10 points of extra credit (out of 120) easily, multiple choice tests and the class is curved. Just read the book and don't skip class
He says he wants to help students but not really. You ask him to clarify something he says it in the same way you don't understand. His tests are about 20 essay type questions and it is graded pretty hard I thought!
You get powerpoints of the notes but I suggest still going to class. Also he tests on the textbook as well. He seems nice and realy into marketing. You can earn extra credit in the class. Test's are m/c not too bad if you go to class and read the book. I thought the class was interesting.
This class is not as horrible as every says although it is BORRRRING and he talks for what seems like forever. Tests are not hard if u read and go to class. You can also earn 10 really easy ec points. He's a nice guy, very into marketing, and eager to teach.
Not bad..had him for distance learning and his on line lectures weren't bad. Tests weren't too bad esp. with the curve. All in all he was pretty good.
This class was pretty easy. The only thing you need to do for the tests are read the book. I would recommend attending class regularly and try to pay attention. It was hard for me because I had a bunch d-bags in my class that loved to hear themselves speak. You can earn 10 points EC which is very helpful.
I must have been in the same class with the previous poster. D-bags galore ruin a class, that is actually somewhat useful and interesting. Please don't inform everybody of your recent experiences in your dry cleaning business or whatever you do. Let's just try to learn some marketing and move on.
TP is awesome and his class is interesting! It's not too tough, either. Great teacher, decent class, overall good experience.
Terry Paul is NOT a good professor. He does not even go over the lecture in class, he makes up his own that have nothing to do with the class. He gives daily quizzes that are ridiculous and makes the class miserable!
His class is the same every quarter so if you can find some old tests from other people who have taken the course get them the are helpful
Avoid this guy if you can. He is very BORING and goes off in tangents that in no way relate to the material. A lot of his exam questions come from off-the-wall stuff talked about in lectures, so you should probably go to class if you want a decent grade. Read the book too, half of the questions on exams come from book material that he doesn't discu
Lecture is tolerable for a large lecture class. The less a student knows about marketing, the better they will do on the midterm. Doing well on midterm shows no understanding of material, just memorization of what comes out of his mouth.
Exams are frustrating. need to read every part of the assigned chapters and pay a close attention to his lectures. Even thou if you study everything on the p.point slides and the book, you will only get 50% questions right. another 50% depends on your hearing skills. poor hearing skill+Boring Lecture=my low grades :-( extra credits helps thougt!
The professor teaches very well. Very easy to understand. But the test is extremely hard, even though he curves big. The exams are not over test or lectures..... it seems like tests are going to be easy, but that is totally not true, because tests are not over anything he says or in t he book. good luck....
likable guy, interesting lecture sometimes. does NOT teach the book and probably should since there is no recitation for this class. tests are harder than you would think but there is a curve and extra credit (only a few opportunities this quarter though) for around 6 points max.
he's a good professor, he teaches clearly, and his exams are pretty easy, I enjoy his class, highly recommended,.
First I found him to be very funny and interesting but then after I took the first exam, I realized how annoying and nit picky he is. You must attend every class and listen to every single word that comes out of his mouth, read the book and know every little detail from it. You don't need to be smart to pass the class, just need to memorize.
He did not do a good job at teaching. Said he would help you but wouldn't clarify things if you didnt understand. You will definately work for any grade you get. quizzes, even if you get good grades can lower your grade if you are in the lower 40% of the class. If you have the option take a different teacher.
You have to attented every class because most of his ?s on exams are from there. Old exams helped with the first and second midterm but the last midterm was all lecture and textbook with only a few similar ?s from previous exams...very easy to fall asleep in this class...his humor gets old...
Watch out for his i'm-better-than-you "what was this specific numerical % mentioned only in one sentence on one page out of the 100ish u had to read for this exam" questions. We had more than one of these this quarter. Do all the extra credit u can, if you can find old exams they will help, although he no longer allows u to keep test questions
I honestly thought this guy was a pretty good professor...the lectures could sometimes be boring but he tried to make it fun...get old tests if ya can...exams are sometimes tricky but it is really easy to get at least a B with the curve
Good teacher. He trys to make the class interesting, which would otherwise be boring. Tests are hard, but curved up a letter grade. Reading the book is a must!
650 is a pretty easy course.. I went to about half of the lectures and read a decent amount of the required material and still got a B. Tests are pretty tough but are curved. If you go to class and read, it should be an easy A.. but who wants to go through all that?
The exams are difficult because he asks questions on very small details that are easy to forget, not the big picture. It's really hit or miss, but you have to attend lecture and read the book if you want to do well. Not sure I learned that much.
Marketing, come on Paul, is not that difficult. The material is relatively simple. So, what explains the 55-65% class averages for the exams? Easy, Paul. The questions are poorly worded and at times illogical. For an Econ & Phil major, the class was a torturous phenomenon. Save yourself trouble, join a bus. frat and cheat like all the others.
T.P. is knowledgable, but his tests suck. They are not even over the big picture, some questions ask what the beginning letter is that begins a group of terms. That is completely irrelevant. He even insulted me in office hours, saying I didn't put in enough work, when in fact I did, and insinuated that I shouldn't be a marketing major.
great teacher of marketing concepts
Terry is a genius when it comes to marketing. I learned a lot for him. He is a bad tester and very arrogant. The tests are almost impossible to get an A on. Go to class and take the best notes ever. His tests are irrelevant to the material he teaches. The only upside is that I got two C’s and one B on the three test and ended up with an A with his
A lot of the concepts and ideas learned in this class were interesting. However, his exams showed anything but coherent relevance for the "important" material and instead focused mainly on the students' ability to memorize insignificant textbook pictures, random and obscure quotes from lecture, and his short-sided opinions and feeble conjectures.
The reviews here were mixed but, for the intro class, I thought he taught it well and, more importantly, it was easy! I didn't read the book and I got a B+. The trick is to go to class every day and take good notes! I studied from the slides (buy the booklet of slides). I still had the textbook, used it for definitions. Easy class for lazy people.
You MUST read & GO to class. He REFUSES to answer questions before/during tests. Test questions are super vague, & ask things like "Ur professors opinion was...". READ and attend class and you can get an A, but you MUST DO BOTH. He's entertaining during lectures but is very unhelpful otherwise.
This class was very difficult - on the tests, he'd ask extremely specific questions that I couldn't remember. The fact that he uses a bell curve normally isn't too bad, but my class ended up performing abnormally well and my grade suffered due to it. I actually enjoyed the class, just not his tests...
I really did not read the book at all and still got a B+..Just take good notes in lecture
Definitely not as bad as people claim it to be. I actually think this class was really easy. Just go to every lecture and listen to what he says. He's a good speaker. You definitely won't fall asleep. You'll probably still be able to get an A- or B+ if you don't read the book. Listen to what he says.
This class was definitely tolerable. There is a massive curve that is standard and doesn't change from quarter to quarter. Pretty much a D gets turned into a B and a C gets turned into an A. On top of that, the exams are not difficult at all. The negative comments are probably from people who never attended lectures.
What a horrible teacher! He knows his stuff but nothing in class is on the exams. Also, his extra credit is a scam. I did both extra credit projects and he refused to give me credit as they were not the exact offical marketing projects he accepts. I emailed him before taking the extra credit and he approved it. What a crock!
Somewhat of a hard class. Prof Paul knows his stuff, and tells alot of stupid little stories during lecture that typically are on the exam! Must read the text and go to class. I did well on the first exam and was confident for the 2nd and failed it, so don't get to comfortable. Overall a good teacher for this course.
His tests are really hard. It seems like he just pulls questions out of the air. The curve that he says he's going to give really is the curve he's going to give. Do the extra credit it's easy and there's tons of it.
He is easily the worst tezcher I have EVER had! His lectures are fun then you get the test and he asks off the wall questions that nobody knows. I went to him for help and was useless! I has to drop after the second midterm and I attended all but one lecture. The worst part is that he is the ONLY person who teaches the class? What is OSU thinking?!
I went to lectures, but never read the book and got a B+. Idk what you people are talking about, there are much more difficult classes and profs at Fisher.
It's true, his questions come out of nowhere and don't cover the main points, but the details of the course. You need to remember/write down all his opinions, comments and the useless videos he shows. He's also condescending, just listen to his stories about getting free marketing books. Not bad overall, just read, study a lot and do extra credit
This class is not as hard as everybody says. Go to class, read the textbook (including charts and pictures), and put in your best effort when you study and you will be fine. People who didn't do well probably didn't do these three things. 100/120 which is an 83% is an A- and he offers 10 points of extra credit. It's not that bad!
Don't believe all the good comments here,it's strange when u say 83% A, it more like 83% C or B not included the extra credit of course.I have to drop this class in the last week of dropping class, this teacher by far the worst teacher i got,i have to retake again,he needs to retire and not changing exam question every quarter.Worsening ur GPA
Class starts off interesting, and slowly gets progressively more boring. You MUST go to class for notes. Exam questions are often arbitrary and many students felt oblivious...there was a D average on all 3 exams. He makes exams hard so that students sign up for extra credit experiments for the econ depart. I had 74/120 possible points and got a B.
I don't see people's beef with him. He knows so much about marketing and econ and it shows. Sure, he comes up with some unique questions, but those are his ways of making sure students attend class and read the book. I got 60% on the first test, and managed to get an B+/A-. He gives extra credit opportunities to make up for his unusual questions
After hearing a lot of negative comments about Dr. Paul, I was pleasantly surprised by the course. He's interesting to listen to almost always holds your attention. As far as difficulty, it can be tricky but far from impossible. I'm an Accounting major, but I still managed to score a 30, 33, and 37 on the exams, which is FAR above the average.
Class is fairly interesting, but in all honesty kind of turned me off of sales, which is I'm guessing the opposite of what he wanted. Make sure you study for quizzes; his quiz grading policy is unfair for some, but it turned a B+ in the class into an A for me...
I really wanted to like Professor Paul but his tests were completely unfair. He would ask the most random questions that really seemed as if he was trying to trick you. His class was fairly interesting and his energy level was great. Does have lots of extra credit and huge curve which is needed for tests which average a D!!!
Maybe one of the most overrated classes in fisher. All you have to do is simply attend twice a week, take his notes (write everything he says), and then read the chapters prior to the test. Got an A, all the people complaining just never went to class. You must if you want to do decent. Hes funny and interesting too.
Annoying teacher, will talk about 3 slides for two hours. Pushed back exam because he was to lazy to condense the course and told students if they couldn't attend he would fail them. Always low test scores. Would never take from him again. Horrible.
Very boring speaker, extremely difficult to pay attention in class. Tests are very hard, he asks random questions from the textbook, so you have to do your reading. I personally would try to avoid him if possible
Class is extremely boring. You'll go all 2 hours to the bell. And you HAVE to attend, because he will put random stuff he says in class on tests. Also, reading the book is a necessity. He'll ask the most random thing from the book like the title of a section header. Haha, so yeah, not too many people are happy with him. The class is tough.
Nice guy, but tests are wayyyyy too hard. He asks random questions from the book and/or from little things he barely mentions in class. Good opportunity to earn extra credit and a big curve help a little, but still a pretty tough class
This class is easy. I'm a finance major and the hype of this class being difficult is ridicolous. Go to class, read the book and highlight and you'll do well. His lectures are entertaining and the material is pretty interesting. He uses great metaphors to describe things and you need an 83%for an A-. Average a 33/40 and you get an A.
Most of his exam is based on his lectures so you have to go to every class. I found it easiest to take the lecture notes on my laptop because there isn't enough room on his PowerPoint lecture notes to write everything down and he talks fast. He has exam reviews on Sundays around 5. He works jokes into his lectures and the class goes by fast.
I thought Paul was a great professor. 650 is not nearly as tough as what everyone says and I think you learn alot in his class.------Yes you must read the book, Yes you should probably read the notes, and yes you should do the 10 extra credit points. If you do all three then this class shouldnt be a problem. I hold a 3.2 and I earned an easy A.
if you say his class is boring you need to leave fisher cause you're an airhead...he talks about some stimulating stuff...tests are HARD tho, if you want an A in this class you HAVE to go, you HAVE to pay attention and take good notes, and you HAVE to at least read the chapters...welcome to college people. he offers lots of extra credit.
Great lecturer with true enthusiasm for teaching marketing. Powerpoint available on Carmen is taught slide-by-slide the whole course. Attendance and good note taking is a must. Lots of extra credit available. I enjoyed his class and would recommend him to anyone.
He makes his lectures super interesting and he's a great speaker, but he is curt out of class and taciturn in his emails. Make sure to take excellent notes, read the book carefully, remember seemingly immaterial things and take advantage of ex. credit.
Interesting material and lecture. Exams are very detailed. Perfect scores are impossible. Memorize the slides and make sure to read the book. Every picture, caption, heading, chart, and sentence is fair game on the exam. Take advantage of the extra credit
This was my least favorite class of the 3 I took this quarter. His tests are unbelievably hard and detailed. He will ask things that are totally irrelevant to the class to make sure you read the book. You have to take very detailed notes in class since he tests you on things he said in lecture. He basically made this class harder than it had to be
Terry must be loading these positive comments himself. I never think too much of negative comments about professors because the people who write them tend to be complete idiots, but here I am. What a useless class. Lectures are tedious to say the least and the test have little to do with the text or the lectures. I feel sorry for marketing majors.
DTP has the potential to be the greatest lecturer at fisher but he destroys it through his exams. You won't learn as much because he cares more about paying attention to detail than getting the general concept. I would much rather receive 10 pts from what I learned than from a curve. Waste of tuition money, my grade didn't reflect what I learned
Good course, and you defiantly learn a lot from prof paul. have to put in the time to study the book and minor concepts. class is interesting but the exams are completely absurd. study hard , or dont study at all , u will get atleast a B due to the curve.
TP is interesting to listen too. Literally have to remember everything he says, he asks questions on the exam about totally random things. Read captions under pictures in the textbook, he will ask test questions about them. Missed one class, and got a D on all three exams, but ended up with a B-. I don't feel like I really learned anything though:(
They call this class marketing and logistics 650 but 95% of the class is based around marketing. Mr. Paul's tests are not the easiest but he doesn't ask you what color was a graph or page. Read the book and pay attention in lecture(which can be hard sometimes) along with doing the extra credit and getting a good grade shouldn't be a problem.
This is the class for business minors. The class was difficult because there werent many points. There are 3 40 points tests. Also, the questions on the test are strange. Some examples are, "What letter did all the chapters begin with?" or "What was my opinion about..." I didn't really learn anything
Good teacher. Interesting lectures although he tends to repeats a lot of things. I was expecting the tests to be impossible, but if you go to all the lectures, take notes, and read the book you'll do fine. Do the extra credit!!! It was because of it that I got an A instead of an A-.
The most conceited, annoying professor I've ever taken! Quotes himself on difficult tests and presents lectures as if he's a celebrity giving a performance. Extremely difficult to focus on his every digression during lecture-all of which is testable material. Save yourself boredom-Get a voice recorder and have your friends record lecture for you.
TP did not care about our class at all! we have all failed our exams, and he doesn't seem that concerned. we are all just hoping we pass the class! but, overall he was nice during our lectures. he does curve grades, so we expect to be able to pass once we get our final grades, but otherwise, good luck with this class!!
You must go to class. You have to study. Memorize everything. He will pull one sentence out of a chapter here and there, better hope you memorized every word. Not conceptually hard, just minute memorization. He isn't xtremely unfair, but he could do a better job teaching, instead of just doing the ivory tower professor thing for his own ego
I love his class and he is by far one of the most professors I like! He has great and vivid personality also and you can feel this either in class or in his office hour. He's also very patient. I just finished the 650 final today and already miss his class!
He is really great. Take him.
Just took the final yesterday. Not nearly has hard as everyone says....no questions about "the color of the car" on a specific page. Good class. Average a 30ish on the exams and do the extra cred, you'll get an A
You must attend every class and read every chapter, twice. You do not need to know the color of the car in the pictures but look at every one carefully and READ THE CAPTIONS UNDERNEATH! Also, every business he mentions in class, every example he uses, every thing he says he believes or doesnt - WRITE DOWN. They will be on the test. Then you're good
You do need to go to class to understand the material because without going some of the notes don't make any sense. Also, you need to go to class to get his infamous quotes/opinions/% stats he puts on exams. You need to briefly read. Questions from the book are about the big examples. I got a B+ (avg. 32's on exams) & with the EC it went to an A.
Dr. Paul makes a relatively uninteresting class bearable. He's very clear and concise with his lectures, making it easy to take notes (which is critical in his 650 class). He warns you about his exams, which can be somewhat confusing. Expect to stay the whole hour forty-eight (he NEVER finishes early). Read the book; it helps.
This guy is the man. All you have to do is go to class and take notes with the slides he gives you and you will do well. His lectures are very easy to understand and stick pretty well in your mind. I'd take more classes with him if I could.
I am an accounting major. I loved this class and I learned a lot. Read the book, take notes in lecture, and do the extra credit - you will receive an 'A'. I cant believe people are having trouble with that.
TP is a good prof. If you do the extra credit and go to class you should get an A. At times, his exam questions are vague, but the curve makes up for these. If you know the information from the slides and have at least skimmed the text book you will so fine. Lecture isn't too bad, and TP explains everything very well. He also holds a review
People who are complaining just aren't trying hard enough. Read the book, take notes in class, study, and do the extra credit, and you'll be more than fine. Pay close attention to when he says "most important" or "in descending order"...he likes those questions on the exams. He has reasonable expectations and is not near as bad as people think.
Allow TP to redeem himself!! I HATED 650 but 753 was great. There are daily quizzes on the reading which is annoying but made me stay on top of it (he drops 3). Exams weren't nearly as tricky. I went over the notes once or twice the night before each one and got A's. Highly recommended!
The class is hard, his questions are very exacting and many come from the book. you must read the book and go to class to get a decent grade. Overall the class is fun since dr. paul tells awesome stories and makes the class interesting, but the tests are a pain, but you can do extra credit to help with that.
Buy book bc 1/2 of questions on exams are from book & 1/2 from lecture. Pro. paul puts notes online, but some slides are not detailed. so go to class and write additional info. If prof paul stresses something or spells something out, then it will appear on the exam. take advantage of extra credit(which are surveys)then you should be able to get an A
Those who say this class is hard are simply not good students. Go to class (every class), write down literally everything he says. Skim the book, and do all the extra credit..I ended up missing 2 points the entire class before the curve. TP is funny and he is extremely knowledgable, make the most out of it esp since no one else teaches the course
Excellent Lecturer. Terrible test maker. Has some obscure and ambiguous questions that have nothing to do with the material. Curve + EC give you about a letter grade boost, so an A or A- is very reasonable to get.
Nice guy, but some of his exam questions have nothing to do w/the concepts U should have gained from the chapters. Class average on exams was around C- to D's. He gives a HUGE curve that will boast your final grade to the next letter grade up, so its not hard to get a B, B+, maybe even an A if your one of the students that score above class avg.
Seriously, I don't understand why people thought the class was so hard. Yes, it's requires alot of work, but the extra credit makes it incredibly easy. He does make test questions tricky, but as long you go to lecture(and actually pay attention) and read the book you'll do fine. One of the best lecturers I've had.
Prototypical TP class. The book is an absolute necessity - there are quizzes before every class on the chapter he lectures on, so the readings are mandatory if you plan to pass. The tests vary in hardness. (The first exam was easy; the 2nd saw a high score of 38/50.) Overall the class is bearable, but not one you'd look forward to every day.
Very similar in structure to 650 lecture-wise, but there are quizzes everyday. You MUST read the textbook chapters for each class. As others said, 1st exam is easy, last 2 are more difficult. Not hard to get a good grade, but you do have to keep up to do well. Also, same better-than-you attitude he had in 650.
Everyone said he was so ridiculously hard, but I didn't think so. Read the chapters before class (I have never read for a class, but you have to for this class. Plus, it's pretty interesting). I studied the night before, and not that much and got an A. Do the extra credit and take good notes, you should be fine! He's nice and enthusiastic, too!
He explains clearly and the topics are pretty interesting to me. But you have to put in a lot of extra, and honestly unnecessary effort into studying for his exams, because he will ask you question like "what is an analogy we used in class on ...". Make sure you attend lecture and take very detailed notes, also, read the books.
Terry is entertaining and captures the room. In order to get A's you'll have to read all the text (even intros and side boxes) which can get obnoxious. Also, go to every lecture, he asks lecture-specific questions way more than textbook ones on his tests. No final!
Dr. Terry is one of Fisher's BEST. He's entertaining and hilarious. He has a wealth of knowledge to share and really enjoys what he teaches. He sincerely cares about his students as well. Memorize every single word in lecture as well as the entire book, seriously! Whatever you do, don't skip a class and jump on the extra credit opportunities.
Terry is a very engaging professor and I actually enjoyed going to his lectures. His tests are annoying though, and there's almost no chance of getting perfect scores on them unless you read the textbook ten times and memorize every word. Go to every class, read the textbook, and do all of the extra credit and theres a good chance of getting an A
TP is THE GUY!!! He is so energetic and helpful. Even tho the tests are hard, I still enjoying going to classes (not like other classes)
TP is as described. Lectures are not bad at all bc he makes material interesting. Has a great sense of humor and holds many review sessions if needed. BUT his tests require a lot of attention to lecture material and reading is a MUST.
I loved professor Paul, he was easily one of my favorite professors since I've been at Fisher. His lectures were captivating and easy to recall if you take good notes. Do the extra credit, read the book and go to class and you should be able to get an A.
Seriously here's the secret to success: RECORD HIS LECTURES! I swear, if you record the lectures, go back, listen to it and create your own notes, you will ace the class! :D
Great teacher, great class. To get an A you must do as much extra credit as possible (they are very easy), listen very carefully to every lecture (so pay attention, dont be on your phone/laptop) and read the chapters beginning a week from when the exam is (otherwise you forget the details). Exams are specific, so just pay attention! Great class.
HE IS THE BEST PROF EVER!! though the exams might be tricky but he really teaches well!
His tests are legit impossible asking for specific things he stated in his lectures. If you go to the bathroom, youll pretty much miss a point on the exam.
He doesn't take attendance, but the tests always have examples of things he says in class. Gives notes ahead of time, but most of exam material is stuff he talks about. Can do 10 points of extra credit, if you want to get a decent grade in the class then do all 10 points! Curves the class so that the average grade is a B.
TP is an awesome teacher, he is crystal clear to understand and goes into the material in depth. Buy the pre printed lecture slides and write down literally everything he says in his lectures, do all the extra credit and you will do fine. 20% of the exam questions come from the book so its your call if you want to buy the book or not.
Gives clear/detailed lectures with no homework or other assignments. This could be good or bad depending on how you view it all of your grade is from midterms. I bought the book and attended about 90% of the lectures and got an A after curve. The book is helpful so buy it (esp if you skip lectures). There is also a possible 10pts easy extra credit.
Kind of interesting just hard to do well in the class. Would not recommend this class. Went to every lecture and did all the readings and studied really hard but the tests legitimately have nothing to do with material you study
He is a decent professor but makes the class very difficult. The exams have nothing to do with the material studied and are incredibly frustrating.
TP is a very interesting and captivating lecturer. He is willing to help and clear up anything. Very approachable. TP says the exams are general, but they are incredibly specific and some questions are just straight strange, however if you read the book you will be fine. There is a curve and extra credit which negates the weird exams.
Great lecturer. Exams are tricky because he asks questions mostly from stuff he says during lecture. Every exam questions a couple times from examples in the book. So just so through the book and memorize his lectures. It's not too hard because he's a great great lecturer and keeps repeating the important concepts.
great teacher, very helpful and approachable. he is my favorite in fisher. but exams are very tricky. however, u will learn from him.
Best instructor ever!!!!!!!!!Love him!!! Very helpful! He has 5 exams(26 multiple-choice questions each) and 10 extra credits. He offers weekly review session and midterm review session, but it's basically going over the lecture material again. His classes are quite challenging and but very interesting! Got an A in the end, haha!
The problem is that 13 of his exams are testing your knowledge of his lectures rather than marketing. Take this exam question for example, "In lecture I said that the advantages of advertising using new media all start with which letter?" (a) A (b) E (c) I (d) O THAT'S NOT A MARKETING QUESTION.
The problem is that 13 of the exam is testing your knowledge of his lectures rather than your knowledge of marketing. Take this exam question for example, "In class, I said that the advantages of advertising using new media all start with which letter?" (a) A; (b) E; (c) I; (d) O THAT'S NOT A MARKETING QUESTION.
1.) He says 40% of the test questions will be directly from the Pearson Quiz section. 0% of exam ?'s have these on them. 2.) He says he doesn't ask trick questions on exams. Every question on the exam is a trick question. 3.) He uses different terminologynumbers from the reqd textbook. 4.) Do the extra credit 5.) Prepare to hate marketing
Like others have said, he asks the most obscure specific questions that don't really relate to your overall understanding of Marketing. They simply test your ability to regurgitate specific details. There is little overlap between the book and his lectures, but he tests on both. He really needs to streamline his tests. However, Terry Paul is nice.
Dr. Paul is great guy overall. Very approachable at his office hours and willing to help you understand material if you don't get it. He does ask some oddly specific questions about the lectures on his exams (we had 5 exams). No final exam. He doesn't teach from the book, but still asks questions from the text on the exams.
Really nice guy, but the exams are ridiculously hard. He asks the most random and pointless questions about the most irrelevant things. Instead of testing your knowledge of marketing, he asks if you remember one thing he said during lecture one day that didn't seem important at all. Would not recommend taking him.
The tests are extremely difficult and based on his own opinions (some questions will specifically ask what he said in the lecture). Some of his information is wrong.
Very nice person. Learned a lot. Very approachable. But the exams can be ugly. I went to all classes and read the book, but sometimes still got a D for an exam. There're 5 exams in total. Be careful of extra credit chances!
If you don't attend lecture you WILL NOT PASS. His tests ask specific questions about what he said in lecture. He doesn't teach from the book but there will be at least 5-6 questions from the material in the book. Even though his tests are hard and lecture is mandatory... I really enjoyed his class. He's a funny guy!
He's interesting to listen to and helpful. However, his exams are horrible. I went to every class and took notes on almost everything he said, read all the chapters in the book and took the quizzes, studied very hard, and still barely passed exams. Very specific ?'s on unimportant things that have nothing to do with actual marketing concepts.
Love his classes so much !!!!!!! Though his tests are hard, I managed to get an A in the end and I am an international student. So you can do it!!!! Very interesting class!!!! Hope he could tech more MKT classes:)
Even after religiously taking notes in class, taking notes on the book chapters, doing Carmen quizzes, and taking practice tests, you will not recognize a 1/4 of the material on exams. The material is not at all hard, the class is just frustrating. Exams do not test you on your knowledge of marketing and the averages are usually around a D or F.
Here's my 2 reasons why this class is not fun: 1) The tests are based completely off random things he says in class or lecture modules. He'll word for word say "I don't ask trick questions" but the tests are full of trick questions. 2) If you want to learn marketing, you won't because you're trying to learn random things you think he'll ask.
Tough exams that are very detailed. If you read the book and pay attention in lecture, take good notes, and study well it's not impossible. Just try to score above the average and the curve will help you in the end. He started posting his lectures online so you could probably skip class and watch those instead.
I absolutely loved this class. If you go to class and pay attention you should have no trouble passing. He makes jokes and really tries to keep you engaged by asking for discussion. I love how he would give real life examples. Would recommend.
This is the toughest class i have ever taken in OSU. His class isnt bad but the exams are very tough. The exam questions are very detailed. You need to read both textbook and lecture notes to get A.
Pay attention to the examples he talks about in class. Class isn't mandatory but if you don't go, make sure you watch the lectures online. Reading the book is essential. Great professor and great lectures, but grading is pretty tough.
30% of test material is from his lecture; the other 70% is from the book. Have to read a lot to do well. Loves giving tricky questions on his exams about very small details. Most of points come through exams, so be sure to prepare for them. Overall wasn't bad, but would take an easier professor if possible
David Paul is the man. This class was very hard, so you better read the textbook, attend lectures, and watch his interview videos if you want a good grade. If you put in the work, you will get a good grade. But at the very least, attend his lectures every week. This man has a wealth of knowledge and his lectures are a treat!
Not the most interesting class, but if you listen to all the lectures and read the assigned chapters, you're practically guaranteed at least a B+. Most questions on the exam come directly from his slides. The class is curved to a B and there is opportunity for extra credit. Ended up with an 80% before the curve; after the curve, I got an A.
Professor Paul is very interesting and his lectures are entertaining, but you better read the textbook and listen very attentively in class. The exams ask absolutely pointless questions that have nothing to do with marketing but were mentioned in a sentence during lecture. The curve screwed me and I missed an A- by .2 points. Take with caution.
Professor Paul is the best lecturer I have ever had at OSU. You learn marketing principles, and also learn so much in regard to psychology, history, and company profiles through his lectures. Many complain about this being a difficult class, but use Pearson's "Dynamic Study Modules" and the "Study Plan" in your e-book to help study.
He's a great and enthusiastic person but the questions on the exams are so obscure. I think it comes from the fact that he is overconfident in his marketing knowledge. Here's an example: "What did I half jokingly say about salespeople in class?". You're an interesting guy David but tone it down a bit we can't remember everything about you.
The topic is interesting, but his tests are ridiculously specific. Make sure to study the notes on his lectures especially, those are most important. The interviews are extremely tedious and the questions he asks over them have nothing to do with marketing. I'd recommend a different lecturer if possible, this was practically an online class anyway.
He is a good teacher and the lectures are really informative. The tests are unreasonably hard even if you read all the chapters and know the lectures by heart. The curve in the class is generous though. Seems like he is trying to prove a point that Marketing is harder than people think. He succeeds. Make sure you do the extra credit, you'll need it
You can either watch the lectures online or attend in person. Both were very similar. Tends to talk about a LOT during lecture so you don't know what's important for the exams. He also asks very specific questions on the exams. You ave to read one/two chapters each week and take a weekly quiz (which were easy), but the book explains concepts well
Paul is kind of a goof. His lectures are at least entertaining but way too long. The exams don't actually test you on how well you know marketing, they are more on how well you paid attention to little things he says in class. Exams are curved though so its not too hard to get a decent grade
Terry is a great & funny guy, but his exams are way too hard and specific for an intro level course. This is a class that you need to read the suggested chapters in--he will pull a lot of that into his exams. Pay attention during lectures & take good notes because he will pull from that. He rambles & I never knew what I needed to know from lecture.
Class is really boring, drags on and on. Good professor though, kind of funny. Exams can be tough, but not impossible. Option to watch online videos instead of lecture. Unusual grading scale on curve. 2 Non-Comprehensive Midterms, 75 MC Q each. Online Quizzes and Warm-Ups through Pearson.
Exams are difficult. I did not read the book for the first exam and did fine - 80% or an A- on his scale. Some specific, stupid questions, but not as bad as others are saying. Review lecture notes (take good ones) and the online warm-ups and quizzes for textbook material. His curve in the class is supposed to help.
His class isn't nearly as hard as everyone makes it out to be, you just have to show up to class and take notes. People find it hard because his class is so painfully boring it's hard to pay attention. Avoid the trap of watching the lecture videos instead of going to class... they are much harder to pay attention to and get anything out of
For a principles class, he takes it too far. I never knew what would be important in class as he rambles on and on about stuff, which is why his lectures are so long. He cracks jokes and expects you to know what examples he used in class for the test, which could have been one of these jokes. I didn't learn marketing at all from his class.
Terry was a good professor. Lecture was LONG and he goes over so much stuff, but go to lecture. I did not read the book at all. I wrote a ton on my lecture slides and studied that info, watched the interviews, and studied the warmups for the exams. Got an A in the class with his curve and had low Bs on the exams. Nice professor, just go to class!
He posts the lectures on Carmen, so you can either go to class or watch the lectures online. The online lectures and in-person lectures are 90% the same (even the stories or examples he tells). The class is curved but exams alone are 60% of your grade, so be sure to study! The book isn't super dense and there's extra credit available through SONA.
Terry is a very nice guy and is really engaged in this subject. However, it is just a lot of information. The tests are difficult because of the fact that there is so much information. Make sure to watch the interviews because those are easy points. Don't save all your studying until the last couple days, you will be overwhelmed. Do the EC early!
he may give extra credit but this is just because he knows he is a TERRIBLE TERRY. literally didnt learn a single thing from his class because I was to fixated at trying to understand where his points were coming from. His exams are extremely hard and he curves the class but also because his exams are very VERY hard. I repeat, very hard.
Terry is a horrible professor who believes he is actually teaching marketing to his students. He has the stupidest jokes that end up on his exams. His exams are very tough for an undergrad. For example he will ask a question from the interviews which are so irrelevant such as what was somebody's major. Overall, I am convinced I will not pursue MKTG
Terry's a nice and funny guy, but this class is absolutely ridiculous. It is super disorganized and the grading system is very unclear. His tests are really hard because there is so much information and his questions can be very specific.
The confusion of the online assignments was a little annoying but other than that, its not as bad as people say. I would actually recommend watching all of the lecture videos online the week of an exam instead of attending in person so the small annoying details are fresher in your mind. I never went to class & got an A with the heavy curve
Nice guy, means well. Thats the only good thing I can say. He has no experience in the business world, with regards to marketing and sales, so he has a very difficult time applying concept to real world applications. Hes a textbook professor, not a businessman.
I'm an A student. Much of my time was wasted deciphering Terry Paul's vague syllabus. The class is confusing for absolutely no reason. Instead of just writing the specific due dates of assignments in the syllabus, he gives complicated criteria you are supposed to use to determine if you have an assignment or not that week. Clarity is lacking.
Yikes. Terry is a nice guy and is funny, but man is his class difficult, as a dean's list student every semester at OSU. Nothing is clear about the online assignments, and the exams are super hard. Only three of them too so you better do well! Watch his online lectures the week of the exam, and that's all I got. Good luck....
Lectures are abhorrently boring. The material itself is a breeze, but knowing this - Terry chooses to ask questions of zero importance to the topic. His tests consist of very specific questions about examples he uses and useless information. Don't think that you'll do well just because you understand the material, you have to play his game.
I was a 4.0 student until this class ripped me a new one. I had heard that this class placed a huge emphasis on exams, but gave the professor the benefit of the doubt. There are 2 exams that your entire grade is comprised of. Questions on the exam are the most specific, unimportant things in lecture (2 hours of literal misery). Don't take this.
Decent guy, means well enough I suppose. If you have the chance do not take his class. I thought maybe if I really worked hard on studying and restudying and restudying his material that I could do well on his exams (90% of grade). The truth is the exam questions are far too specific or misleading to have any chance of doing well based on merit.
Don't take this class. I studied my ass off and failed all three exams. I listened to or attended every lecture, read the textbook, did it all. His questions are extremely specific and focuses on irrelevant details that do not focus on the real lessons of marketing. There is a HUGE curve but you will stress until the day that curves appears.
Since we all have to take his class here are tips: Do EVERY SINGLE PACKBACK ASSIGNMENT!! He grades based on quality and quantity, but the quality grade is found by multiplying your quantity in, so even if you have a high quality in responses, you will get a low score. (The average for our class was 17/27) Memorization heavy. Watch the interviews
Do everything possible not to take him. Hes a great guy but the class is disorganized and you could study for hours upon hours of content you dont care about and the test questions still seemingly come out of left field.
One of the most stressful classes I've ever taken. Terry seems like a nice guy, but his lectures are so boring. His online lectures are okay. The exams are extremely extensive. The class average for the exams in my class was a 60%. RIP to your GPA.
Terrible professor. You have one 2 hour lecture per week where he shows you maybe 10 slides of material from his basic black font, white background powerpoint. The exams are actually insanely difficult. Not because the concepts are difficult. But because he tests you over a ton of material and asks extremely specific questions.
Terry Paul will make you read a passage about advertising, then will ask you to recall the weight of the sun in approximate kilograms/square inch come exam time. Irrationally specific questions that are only matched by ridiculously vague and broad ones, this course is sure to make you feel like your hog is caught in a blender.
Went to a few lectures early in the semester, but Terry is the slowest lecturer in the country. So I decided to not waste the time and just watch the recorded lectures (Still incredibly slow, do yourself a favor & increase the speed to 1.75). Mindtap quizzes were super easy, but questions on exams are irrelevant super-specific nonsense. Don't take
I went into this course completely terrified based off of the reviews that I had read. However, I finished with an A without much trouble at all. WATCH EVERY LECTURE VIDEO and take very specific notes on EVERY detail, then study them. I never really used the textbook and still got a B or higher on every exam. Also, watch the guest lectures online!
lots of boring lecture videos and specific details on exams. not necessarily hard, but not easy either
Basically, don't bother going to the actual class, as it is not mandatory and he puts the lectures word for word online. Get loads of addy and binge the lecture videos in the week of the exam and write down all of his random facts that he likes to put on the exams. Look at the marketing interviews as they are easy points on the exam.
The most disorganized class I've ever taken, you could understand the material inside and out and the questions on the exams are going to be about stupid analogies he made in the lecture. Do not take this class with this professor.
Terry's lectures aren't bad, a little dull, however the exam questions cover the most arbitrary, specific details from lectures rather than actual marketing concepts. This is especially horrible with Terry because that's the ONLY THING HE GRADES ON. If you have a choice, avoid at all costs-however, if you're like me, you don't have a choice anyway.
Terrys exams are 60% lecture 30% book and 10% interviews. He definitely sticks to those percentages, so when youre studying just focus on lectures. The interviews were annoying to get though but the templates he provides makes it easy. His exams are exactly what he says they are. Also extra credit bumps u up so much, so do it!
Grading scheme is just super odd. He curves well, but there are two exams, each worth 41% of your grade in the class. The curve states that the top 10% of exam grades receive A's, then the next 20 or 30% receive B's. He stated clearly that if everyone got a grade deserving of an A, he would still not pass them with an A due to this curve.
