Really good as a teacher. Takes his time to explain the material and makes sure everyone is relatively on the same page. Review sheets give more than eneough information and usually have more material than the exams do. Attendence is taken with a sign in sheet, homework helps but it's never checked. ** Definetely a top recommendation.
Great professor, he explains the material pretty clear and if you dont understand you can go to his office hours and he'll help you until you do. Attendance is mandatory. Gives alot of homework but doesnt collect any of it for a grade. Very good professor to take
He's a good teacher, but he confuses himself sometimes and he's very boring. He has the Ben Eistein's voice thing going on. He can confuse the class sometimes to, but he does help alot with explaining things. It's a very easy class as long you study the review sheet for the quizzes/tests because a majority of the time the review sheet is the test.
He's very helpful and explains things to the class in a way that's easy to understand. It's a typical boring math class but at least he gives review sheets to make it easier.
If you go to class regularly, do the homework, and study the review sheets you can't get less then a B.
Easiest Math for El Ed professor at WCU. Tests and Quizzes were easy and he was kinda funny. Take him to get the course out of the way!
very easy to follow, he moves at a fast pace but you dont realize it. he explains things very well. i wish i had him sooner. math is my worst subject but this class is very passable!
Explains things very well. Young, cool guy, kinda funny. Really nice too. Gives homework, but you decide if you want to do it or not. He doesn't grade it. Tests aren't tht bad either, jst do the review sheets and you will know what to expect. I highly recommend taking him. Huge Phillies and Eagles fan too which is cool.
He's such a good teacher. Explains the material in a way that people who aren't that good at math can actually understand. He's young, funny and helpful. Take him!
Math was my weak subject going into this course, but he really helped me understand better. Very approachable and easy to go to during office hours, and he will answer questions in class too. You will ace the exams as long as you know the study guide well. Take quizzes seriously, they were the only reason I did not get an A.
If you are having trouble with other calculus teachers or the class in general, this is the guy for you. He explains the material very well and if you do the homework and study you will get a good grade in the class
DT is the man. Classes are fun and makes math fun. Group quizzes but not test. Go to the class and to the hw and u will be fine.
He's really nice and easy going. He explains each concept really well and gives plenty of opportunities to ask questions in class. He doesn't check homework but I suggest doing it, it'll help on his test which aren't hard as long as you do extra practice problems before hand. It's basically a review from high school..very easy
David is the best math professor I've ever had. I am terrible at math, but he makes everything very understandable. He gets to know everyone by name, and is very personable and approachable. Do ALL the homework problems he gives you. Tests are based off the review sheets. I also recommend getting tutoring from the LARC to help out-it can't hurt!
Great professor. He explained the topics very well. He was always available during office hours. He wants you to do well. He does get annoyed easily. Don't use your phone in class. Ask questions in class!!! It will show him you did the homework because he doesn't check to see if you did it, but it still shows him your trying.
I'm normally pretty good at math but this guy is a real pain. He doesn't allow calculators and is the worst about notation- you can lose at least 10 points on a test for not using the right notation. He's very helpful if you go to his office and get help- plan on being there often!
He's one of the best professors I've had at WCU. He makes calculus easy to understand and he's extremely helpful. He loves the Phillies and quotes movies a lot too. Just take him and do the homeworks and you'll be fine
He is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. It is really hard to get into his class, so you have to be constantly looking out for openings. He is so helpful and explains things very clearly. AWESOME TEACHER!
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER, DAVID IS AMAZING.
If you have to take math TAKE HIM! He explains things really clearly and is always willing to help. He doesn't check the homework but it really is important to do it. There are many times where I have left class and felt like I had no clue what was going on but after doing the h/w I had a better handle on it EVERY time.
Incredible professor. Gets to know every student by name. Consistent class style. Explains the material perfectly and uses real world analogies, like all good math teachers do. If you sit in the front of the class, show up to all classes, pay attention, and do homework, there's no reason you can't get an A with Dr. Traverso.
I am horrible when it comes to math, and WCU is known for the worst math professors! Traverso is AMAZING. He explains every step in a problem and uses many different examples. If you do the HW & review sheets & come to class you'll get an A or B for sure.
Everyone said he was the best so i took him and they were 100% right. He explains everything step by step and gives plenty of examples in class. Gives out review sheets that reflect the exams exactly. I had calc in HS which made this course like review but sit in the front and do HW problems and youll do fine. Group Quizzes worth 10-20 points too
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST MATH TEACHER AT WCU!!! He too this day is helping me out. Recently I needed recommendation for scholarship and he wrote one for me. He is the best and if you see his class, Take it!!!
BEST TEACHER EVER! Explains everything in timely manor. He is EXTERMELY helpful at office hours. Quizzes you due in groups up to 4 people about once a week. Exams are not the outragously hard versions of problems either. TAKE HIM!
He is very good a fantasy baseball
very good teacher super clear and easy if your decent at math take it
He is one of the best math teachers i've ever had. Explains things very well and takes time to take you step-by-step through the problems. If you do bad in the class, you're the only one to blame. Great Teacher, Definately take him!
If you have to take math, take Traverso. I was never one who did well in math throughout high school so I was a little nervous when I had to take this class, but he is great! Just go to class, pay attention, and do the homework and you'll do just fine.
Amazing teacher, very clear and helpful.
I went to all of his office hours and was afraid to ask questions because he would raise his voice or shout at me for asking a question. Gave attitude and was never pleasant. Notes were difficult to follow and sometimes were clear.Rushed through hw and cut questions short If math isn't your best subject then he is the worst teacher for you to get.
I took him for math 107 & 108 and I am horrible at math! he was super helpful. If you show him you care about the class and your trying he'll help you. and he hates lateness!
Traverso is the man, very helpful because he genuinely wants you to do well. Im taking him for 108 also because hes the bomb.
I had a lot of trouble with this class but Traverso did his best to make it understandable. You have to go to class and the group quizzes are helpful. Doing the homework is a really good idea but he doesnt collect it.
Very clear and easy to understand what is expected. Notes are detailed and the class is easy to get a great grade if you do all your homework and pay attention in class.
He's the best there is. Just go to class and do the homework. Review sheets are helpful too. His office hours are worth it if you have any extra questions.
Great professor. Top 5 that I've had at WCU. Given the situation that the WCU Math department is terrible, David is a great asset to the University and to your college career. He teaches well, and goes over everything clearly. Go to his office hours if you need help. He will help you, no doubt. Tests are tolerable, get back tests if possible.
Best Math teacher I've ever had. Difficult class, in which he makes the material crystal clear. I've never really understood math until I took his class. Now I feel like I can do everything
Great professor. When I say easy, I don't mean "don't do work" easy. You really need to understand the material. Lucky you he's probably the best step by step teacher I've ever encountered. He will throw a curveball or two on the test though. Something you wouldn't see unless you did the homework. Look over the homeworks and you'll be fine.
Explains concepts very clearly. Wish I had him when I took calc in high school. Easy going guy, comfortable environment. Group quizzes every so often. Tests are fine if you do the work and clear up any of your struggle spots! Only used book for hw problems. Doesn't check but do it for practice.
Best math professor I have ever had.
The man. Explains concepts as clear as can be.
AWESOME professor. Cool guy too, makes funny stupid jokes. I was horrible at math in high school but Traverso made this a breeze. Just go to class, write down everything and study the study guides. Learns everyone's names somehow. Never used textbook only because I never did the hw. Always a curveball on the tests that comes from homework though
Fabulous professor! First time in my life I ever understood and enjoyed taking math. He explains everything very clearly. Copy down word for word what he writes on the board. Pay attention to anything he puts a "*" next to. Its probably going to be on the quiz/test. Very helpful during office hours. If you work, he'll work with you.
Great professor! He made everything so clear and explained everything. He gives tests and quizzes both easy and no tricky problems. He will help you with everything and is very flexible. He give study guides and homework and will go over any questions you have in class. He is awesome definitely take him
He explains all concepts clearly and provides step by step notes for every example. Group quizzes for 108. His expectations are straight forward and study guides are helpful! If you put effort in, a high B is easily obtainable!! RECOMMENDED!
By far the best math professor I've ever had. Very clear on material and gives the best notes. Class is mandatory. Does reviews before each test. He gives group quizzes. Definitely easy to get a B+ or higher in this class.
Even though I got a B, Traverso is one of the best professors I have ever had. Crystal clear with directions and his notes are the best ever. Don't miss a class or you'll need to go to his office hours. Pretty dry and uninteresting as a person, but a hell of a math professor. Knows his stuff to a tee. The man. I highly recommend him!
Limited use of calculators on tests & BUY THE BOOK. Attendance is mandatory! Makes the material very basic & easy to understand. Doesn't throw curve-balls and makes sure everything is explained thoroughly. Fair and firm: usually he doesn't cut you any slack. Easy to pass the class. Just do what he says.
I only needed a MAT103 level and I failed 103 due to a horrible teacher. I chanced it with Traverso last semester and he is hands down the best math teacher I've seen at WCU. He clearly maps out every chaptersection and usually manages to work football into it. Definitely go to class, buy the book and do the hw if the section seems hard
Traverso is by far the best math teacher at WC. There's no doubt about it! I've been to his office hours, I go to every class, and all the material makes clear sense. Definitely do the homework, it helps a lot of on tests! And ALWAYS look at the review he gives, it's pretty close to the test. Great professor!
Traverso is the best. Very clear on what he expects from you. He has a lot of office hours and is always willing to help. HE takes Homework problems at the beginning of each class and For the tests if you can do the problems you on the HW and practice test you'll have no problem getting an A. Really a great teacher.
Never thought math would be my favorite class. He really knows his stuff and writes everything you need to know on the board, so copy the notes! Go to class, pay attention, and do the homework on your own to keep up. Don't hesitate to go during office hours for extra help. Great guy!
Professor Traverso is one of the best professors I've had so far. The way he sets up his lectures makes it very very easy to understand the topics. Obviously the material isn't gonna be easy but somehow he has made it easy. Keep up with the homework and that'll also help a lot for the tests. He's awesome take him now.
This class is literally high school algebra 2. If you did well then, or especially if you didn't, Traverso is the professor for you. He takes things slowly and fully explains each concept. He assigns homework but never checks it..I didn't open my book once or need it at all. He is so helpful and I wish I could take him for MAT 108!!
Awesome professor. Material is pretty easy if you did well in high school algebra. Clearly explains content and provides a lot of examples and practice. Basically tells you exactly which types of questions are on the finals. Gives a lot of quizzes that help your grade too. Never checks homework, Would definitely take him again with any math course.
Traverso tries to make calc a subject that is easier to understand for students. Tells students to "speak the language" & requires certain way to answer on tests/quizzes otherwise he takes points off. Tests are hard, average grades for class were low C's but doesn't round. Do the homework and go to office hours and he will help you do well
Math is not my strong suit, money is. I am a finance major. If you go to class, pay attention, learn from the group Quizzes (that's right, GROUP quizzes), and you take his tests seriously you will pass. Period. Traverso will teach you and you will understand. I say this with no exaggeration: He is the best math teacher I have ever had.
he doesn't care about his students. he rushes through his lectures and only teaches what you need to know to pass the class.
He is very straight forward - three regular exams, and one cumulative, comprehensive final. He's very clear in his lectures and is willing to help you further in his office hours - which i recommend going to. If you aren't lazy lazy, you'll be able to get the grade you desire, just put in some work. excellent professor all-around.
Awful teacher. Doesn't award students for correct answers on exam if the tiniest of errors are in the work. Gives easy reviews and then makes the exams much harder compared to quizzes. Does not help students at all.
Professor Traverso definitely knows his subject. He has a well organize teaching structure. He willing to accommodate for individual students needs during his office hours. He assign group quizzes that count toward a certain percentage of your overall course grade. He definitely one of the top math professor at West Chester University of PA.
David Traverso is an amazing teacher. He makes math simple and very understandable. He can be a tough grader, but as long as you speak his "math language" and do all the homeworks and practice them you'll be fine. Take good notes and pay attention. I'd definitely take him again for another math course.
He's your average math professor in my opinion. You can gain extra credit on the quizzes he gives every week but it doesn't even matter that much because I got an 11/10 on all of them and I still got an A- in the class just because the final really screwed me over. A decent amount of the students in my class had to drop it b/c they did not do well.
AWESOME teacher- made me learn to love calculus :)
He's the best professor. If you're taking Calc take him. He's really good at explaining the basics and making sure you understand everything before you move on. Wish I could take him again.
hardest class i have ever taken. and i love math! he speeds through everything and makes it very difficult to keep up. if you aren't a fast learner, do not take him. he gives you reviews for the tests but doesnt fully give you the answers so you dont know if you did it right. horrible.
I took Precalculus with him, and it was good. I like the way he teaches. If you don't put in the work and do homework then you won't do very well in this class. He's always open to questions and he actually makes math interesting (some times).
Don't get me wrong, professor Traverso is an excellent teacher. Probably the best math teacher I've ever had. But I had him during the semester of the union strike, which really ruined the class. After the missed classes he rushed the end of the semester and gave little review my grade quickly fell. How can a class average of 60% happen on 2 tests?
By far the hardest teacher I've ever had. I am not good in math to begin with but this was just awful! He goes way to fast and expects us to know a lot of background. He is an extremely picky grader on tests and quizzes as well. Overall worst teacher and class I have ever taken. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Professor Traverso is an okay professor, but he is very monotone and does not really cover background information. If you have never taken a pre-calc class before then most of the material covered will be completely unfamiliar and confusing. Doing the homework helps, but he is not very helpful with it. Very picky on tests, must show ALL work.
Traverso is a great teacher! Going into the Calculus class I never was confident with my Math skills and he is SO willing to help. Go to his office hours and he will help a ton. Nice guy and I would take him again. Don't skip class and make sure to ask questions!
group quizzes, doesn't grade homework, lectures every class
I was never too good at math, and I did not take Pre-Calc before this class. I completely bombed the first test, but I turned it around. If you take really good notes, show up, pay attention, and put in effort out of class you will be fine. Everything he teaches us he shows, so nothing is really expected to be known for his class
Good guy, tough class. Gives 3 tests and final. Weekly or so quizzes but their with a group. Always there for office hours and willing to help. Homework is optional but if you want to do good you'll do it.
hes a really good professor and knows how to explain the material so well, but attendance is mandatory and his lectures can go on for a long time. i aced his class even though i skipped a decent amount, but if you show up youll understand everything a lot better.
He is an easy Professor and I was doing great in the class, then I did poor on one test and it ruined my grade for the entire course. He grades every piece of math problems so strictly if you do not solve the way he shows or don't show enough work he takes off points. He leaves no room for error.
Teaches you like youre learning it for the first time and makes sure you understand it. Hes more than willing to help you and explain things. If you participate he likes you even more. Study for tests cause they trip you up sometimes. He genuinely cares about his students and wants everyone to do well and is willing to help you do well
He was a nice guy. The group quizzes really saved my grade. But the test always seemed like they were totally out of left field. I struggled in this class.
he is awful, the worst professor ever. do not take him especially if you are already bad at math and don't have good understanding of basic math topics. he doesn't even explain a specific question you may have even if he asks for feedback. he flies through everything so fast and does not care about you being Able to understand or not.
He is the kind of professer where you can tell he actually wants to teach and help you out. I put tough grader because he grades every little thing but I think thats good because you dont loose all the points if you make a stupid small mistake. He assigns a lot of homework but it isnt mandatory. Although it helps you to do the homework.
Class was easy, he explained the information well. The homework is not mandatory so if you are familiar with algebra already don't buy it. Make sure you write your work out well, don't forget a y when you need it. He cares about students and making sure they understand the material. Overall a nice and decent prof! Im taking him again next semester
I'm pretty sure this is his first time teaching this course, but he is truly an amazing teacher. He always comes prepared and explains everything very well. He also is really helpful in the fact that he will answer and repeat any problems at any time if he you are confused. Doesn't check hw but helpful to do to prepare for tests.
One of the best professors ever, he uses analogies to explain material and reviews everything thoroughly before the test. He is always prepared and patient enough to re-explain the material as many times (outside of class too). Homework is not graded but recommended, so grades are based on quizzes and tests, but show up to class and you'll be fine.
If youre bad at math all I have to say is STAY AWAY. Gave us good notes but if you didnt understand a concept and go to office hours hes degrading and makes you feel dumb.
Pay attention and keep up with lectures and you will be just fine. Available for help outside of class. Looking to pass this pre-req, take Dave.
LOL Good, but definetly be prepared to learn the Human condition of exponents. DYK? Exponents have emotions and people have exponents. negative exponents are sad :( positive exponents are :)
Typical math class. He'll put up the mathematical rules, then show you practice problems. The material in this class builds on top of what you previously learned, so don't miss any classes. Traverso always asks if everyone is alright with the material before moving on, so you shouldn't get left behind. Very helpful during office hours.
Professor Traverso is a great teacher! I had him for brief calc, which was my second time taking it. First time (different prof), I had no idea what was going on. Second time around, everything was so clear. Professor Traverso clearly explains everything step by step, is always open to questions, and gives you opportunity to earn a good grade.
Now a days you really can't find teachers who will ACTUALLY TEACH! He does a great job with providing step by step instructions to solve problems. He allows you to take quizzes in groups up to 4, he provides an extra credit question on every quiz and exam. There's no need for extra credit assignments. he's very thorough.
Amazing Prof. he gives group quizzes which are very helpful to check your answers with other people. He also grades out of 106 so if you do bad on a test you can make up points on the next one. I had already taken a calc class in high school so this course was easy for me and I never purchases the textbook that is only used for homework problems.
I really like Traverso. His lectures were really easy to follow along with and he stopped to allow students to ask questions. It's hard to make math interesting and I think he did his best to keep it simple and easy to understand.
Makes math more than understandable and is a very laid back, helpful person. Absolutely take him if you have the chance.
Clearly knew what he was talking about when he was teaching, had a lot of quizzes and tests
This is my second class that I have taken for Professor Traverso, and he has exceed my expectations yet again. Professor Traverso is a phenomenal teacher, and arguably my favorite teacher I've ever had. Professor Traverso clearly cares when he teaches, and genuinely wants you to learn, it's very easy to feel comfortable in his class. Awesome guy!!!
I loved Professor Traverso's class!! He made it super easy to learn, and I don't think the material was too hard at all. There are usually weekly quizzes, which lead up to an exam (but he only grades 100/106 points on the exams so you can get extra credit!). He also gave reviews for the exams and final and had review days to go over everything.
Friendly and really generous with test grades. Made the content really easy to learn
