I made the mistake of giving this guy a chance. He mumbles through his "lecture" and literally spends the whole class on one problem that he continually keeps correcting because he is not prepared. He is antisocial and is not a help at all. His quizzes are not based on homework or the lecture and it is pointless to stay in this class.
If you are a math major who likes challenging exams and quizzes then take him. There are no straight forward questions asked in exams and quizzes. You have to do a bit little of critical thinking and reasoning in order to get a good grade. As I said if you think, you are good at math without actually learning it from the prof. then take his class.
All that is above is basically true. He tends to overwork problems as well. Doesn't go into detail explaining and sometimes uses made up math to solve them (I thought a basic rule of algebra was what you do to one side you do to the other... not with this guy.) Definately not a good class for someone who doesn't 'get' math.
drop it like its hot
he never collected the homework, so most people didnt do it. most of those people did very poorly on the quizzes and got sour. the class wasnt hard and he was very helpful
Weekly quizzes, useless lectures, and 7 question tests, and he likes to throw in extremely far-fetched and over-complicated questions (One took my tutor a half hour to figure out).
absolutely horribe. DO NOT TAKE HIm. he solves problems that he puts on the board in his head. like we can read his mind or something.. take him at your own risk
A classic insular academic -- bespectacled, quiet, with a Pooh-Bear tendency to back into projectors and walls. A very decent guy, though. No surprises if you do the homework and show up for class (which, anyway, is usually just rehashed homework). I've no reservations, but that he is a scrawler; mole types like myself should secure front seats.
EASY class if u read the chapters, basically teach them to urself, and do the H/W. Quizzes & exams based on H/W! Lectures rather useless, but he's REALLY nice and will help u if u ask! He cares & wants students 2 do well! If u r really dumb at math then... well no matter whom you take, ur gonna be lost. P.S. Trim that beard! But he has nice hair (:
Very good teacher, pretty easy and wants his students to do well. Hard if you dont study or do the homework, a lot of the work is real life based and therefore very fun to learn about. Would take this teacher again if I had the chance.
Terrible professor! His lectures are completely useless. The only way you will do good on tests is if you teach yourself from the textbook, which I did. He will lower your grade for missing quizzes/ not attending classes, even though the syllabus says he won't. He is constantly mumbling and can't teach for life. Save your GPA - don't take him.
This professor is never prepared. He erases his solution numerous times because he does not even know the answer to the problems. He once took an entire class to demonstrate a proof, which was loaded with errors, then ends class with, and I quote: "I reserve the right to change any of this at our next meeting". Basically, we copied bogus notes.
I found by taking good notes and going to his office hours that any confusion from the lecture or homework was easily cleared up. If you ask for his help, he'll help you. It's not hard to do.
Cool dude, nice professor. If you attend class and do the homework, you'll do fine in the class. Very lenient grader. If you ask him questions, he's very helpful. We likey him!!
Horrible, do not know to teach the subject, confuses himself
Struggling
don't take this teacher. It doesn't matter if you are smart in math or not, you will not get the grade you deserve.if you still take this teacher, read examples in the book and see him in his office hour.if you want to do well in that class,do well in exams and quizes. don't take this teacher, save your GPA
be careful with this guy. he tries his best but is fairly dull. quiz every week. 2 mid-terms, and final. i am pretty good with math and still found this class to be a nuisance. however, is nice enough and tries.
Hardest class I ever took was Real Variables with him. Nice, nice man. But a bit disorganized and gives extremely difficult exams that require more creativity and ingenuity than you can probably muster in an hour and 15 minutes. Big help in office hours and via email. But if you ask him something he thinks u know or should know, might not reply.
Extremely nice yet EXTREMELY incomprehensible, i doubted that he knew what he was actually doing half the time but even if he did know what he was doing he just stood infront of what he was writing and talked to himself.. This is probably the best advice you will ever get DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
This guy is very nice, but as a teacher not so well, and struggles to find out what he is really doing. I took the same course with another teacher and it is a complete different story. He only uses computer for every single graph. Not good.
There will always be a few kids that pass any class. If you aren't one of them don't bother. This is one of those classes where you get the test and it's material you have never covered at all. He could make a test with problems similar to the homework and text be decides not to. It is virtually impossible to pass. I wasted my money taking this.
Honestly the worst professor I've ever had in my life. I had to teach myself everything and his tests are 100 times harder than the examples he goes over in class and in the book. Because of his inability to teach, I am now a semester behind. Thank you Trubatch. Thanks.
Extremely nice guy, however if you are taking this class to get into the business school.. good luck... The homework isn't terrible, he uses webassign, which is sort of tedious. I took AP calculus in high school, but his exams are still pretty brutal, but he does extend the exams and homework if the whole class does bad. Have fun =/
This man means well but he is such a bad teacher. He makes himself available to help you but his help isn't worth anything. Im good at math and it was still a hard class. He's boring too and sometimes confuses himself and doesn't even know what he's doing. Don't take him!
This teacher is the worst math teacher i have ever had in my life. He's terrible, doesn't really care if you do bad, does not take attendance, hw is on webassign and there is only a midterm and final. Homework is nothing what he lectures and exams only have 6probs. In few words, he suckss!!!
Dr. Trubatch is a genius. I took a Waves class with him. The material was HARD, but he was able to take a very difficult subject and successfully teach it to his students! I would take him again. He definitely places value in KNOWING the information. He always said, "Quality over quantity". I would recommend him!
He is not a good professor. He does not explain things very well and he spends way too much time on one problem. I would not recommend him to anybody. He is a nice guy to talk to though.
Worst teacher ever at MSU. Im good at mathbut I seriously think he is on drugs. The tests were impossible with problems that were never brought up in class. Homework was horrendis 45 ?'s on a website with only 3 tries at the answer, and he counted the hw grade as a quiz. Hated the class and the teacher, learned nothing, he was not helpful. DONTTAKE
hate him!
At first I agreed with all the comments here, but I ended up with a B out of nowhere. His tests are hard but he will let you redo the questions and add on about 40 points. So if you get a 40 on the test, you will end up with an 80 as ur grade. He's just ridiculously smart. Do your webassign and that will bring up your grade.
Listen-He's a tough teacher. The guy knows what he's talking about. He just doesn't get it through to the class very well, and it get's frustrating. Do the homework, ALWAYS. He lets you re-do questions on Midterms which is EXCELLENT. Go to his office hours as well, and ask questions during tests.
He's a genius but a lot of people just dont seem to comprehend him. Make sure you get perfect scores on your WebAssigns as the midterms and final WILL be difficult. Do not by any means think that they will be easy just because you've taken Precal or Calculus in high school. Its an entirely different world. Nice guy, so ask questions or a friend.
A real professor. People who are not very open to new things may find it difficult to be in his class, but if you have just a little bit of patience, his class will challenge you and encourage you to be a better student. He's very patient and expects us to be students rather than children crying for a good grade.
He is an awesome teacher. I don't know what some of these negative comments are saying but he was fine with with my class. All his tests are pretty easy and the Webassigns are easy A's as well. He is very calm and patient with students and is willing to help if you ask in class. Just pay close attention and you should be fine too. I like his hair.
terrible. he is a very smart guy but it was torture sitting through his lessons. he really does not care if you are keeping up with him and his tests are ridiculous. the tests comprise of usually 6 questions containing material you have not really gone over. i attended tutoring and the tutors could not even answer the questions he was giving us.
If you are a math major, do NOT take this professor. Very confusing: he is always erasing and rewriting what he puts on the board and he never explains anything, not helpful. Tests comprised of 6 questions that have nothing to do with what was covered in class or hw. Grades are hw on webassign, 2 midterms and a final. Good nice person, bad teacher.
Okay this prof is a nice guy, but i would not recommend him. He is too smart for us and does not dumb it down very well. I would say that towards the end of the semester he deff tried more, however it only helped a little. If you are gonna take him be prepared to study alot on your own and teach yourself. Tests are ridiculous. You have been warned.
Professor Trubatch is extremely smart, however, if you plan on taking this class be prepared to study on your own time. Make sure you get 100s on all of your HW because the tests are tough! He allowed us to work on the tests at home to increase our grades. He was very helpful and was always available if you had questions. I'm digging the hair!
HORRIBLE!!!!!! he doesn't explain anything he is going over, you never know what he is doing. He puts up like random equations and doesn't explain any of it. He doesn't do examples. He's nice but he is a horrible teacher. DO NOT take his class.
Worst professor ever. He's probably the smartest guy in MSU, but he just can't teach. And his tests are extremely difficult. Please avoid him if you do not want to see you GPA go down.
Nice guy that tries to entertain you but a HORRIBAL professor. He is just way too smart to teach Calc, he doesn't explain anything and continues to write stuff down on the board as if he's doing the equation by himself. He expects you to get it as he's doing it. Not recommending it
If your understanding of calc 1 is deep, and you love challenge - do take him! I was highly entertained, sometimes confused, but i did learn a lot. Yes, he can be confusing sometimes, but if you put time and effort , you'll do fine. It's imperative that you know how to apply knowledge gained throughout the class to the tests.
Assigned 30 hours homework per week (not exag.), lectures rambling and unhelpful, tests on materials not covered in class.
terrible
HORRIBLE. Everything he assigns is online, attendance not mandatory but class is pointless to attend either way he doesn't teach or give notes or make sense at all honestly and if you keep asking your question because he doesn't answer he gets all frustrated. he's a cute little old guy that will drive you NUTS.
Dr. Trubatch is a really nice guy but he doesn't know how to teach. Don't take his class unless you're good at math before coming to this class. The webassign homework problems have nothing to do with the exams and the exams are difficult. If you want to avoid a headache DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Trubatch is a death sentence. Whatever you do not take his class. Drop immediately. He is terrible. He rambles, doesn't know how to teach at all. Theres no study guides and therefore the exams aren't on any of the web assignments. This class is pointless and this comment is coming from a person who is extremely great at math. He's the worst.
Trubatch knows his material, but is not the best at explaining. He's a great guy, and grades pretty easily, but many complained about his exams being hard. His exams make you take the material to the next level, and you will have to read the book sometimes on your own or you will not do well. WebAssigns teach you more than his lectures do.
it is near impossible to get more than a B in this class. He taught the material poor inna more complicated way then need. He gave an extraordinary amount of homework that barely pertained to class and his test problems where kinds of problems we have never seen before. He let us use our phones (yes our phones) and were all still failed. DONT take
Dr. Trubatch's lectures could use better structuring as it is sometimes hard to discern just what he is doing up on the board. It feels extemporaneous. This causes some confusion. However, he knows his material deeply, is extremely helpful, and a truly nice guy to boot. Read the book. Do the homework. Study for the test, and cut the guy a break.
Professor Trubatch was not a good lecturer. He would write things on the board without explaining what he was doing and would often just mumble while facing the board. When he did try to say something he sometimes wouldn't even finish his sentences. He never used examples to explain a topic which is necessary in a math class. Avoid at all costs!!
He is not very helpful and quizzes and exams rarely relate fully to what was learned. The homework he assigns is barely worth doing since he never goes over it and it isn't the same problems as the quiz.
DO NOT TAKE. I repeat: do. not. take. 90% of our class is struggling big time. I am a straight A student and currently fighting to pass... The material is hard enough to understand and his lectures are of no help. I have never experienced something like this.
Professor Trubatch is a nice enough guy but his class is the hardest I have ever taken. My entire class is failing due to a horrible textbook and unclear lectures. Quizzes are nothing like what we do in class. It is defeating that a class full of math majors are failing a math class. I have never put so much in without any results.
The class design makes grades heavily reliant on timed exams, which unfortunately are on applications of the assignments which no student would understand unless a student has taken the course or some equivalent before. This places students who don't have the proper background at a disadvantage. I learned a lot, but I'm worried about my grade.
This guy does really messed up things like give problems on tests that use notations youve never ever seen before, or material you've never seen before. Need to put a lot of effort in to pass, but he does know what hes talking about and will help you if you go to his office hours. Does not curve and is the most unfair teacher in math department.
TERRIBLE AVOID AT ALL COST!!!
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! IF YOU HAVE TO DELAY GRADUATION TO AVOID HIM, ITS WORTH IT BECAUSE YOU WILL STRUGGLE & FAIL ANYWAY! doesn't show you how to work out a problem, just scribbles all over the board and mumbles/trails off, no structure to his lectures, gives problems on tests that you've never seen before. 90% of my class failed or go D's
SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR GPA!
He completely killed any passion I had for Math. I went into this class excited to progress my Math learning, and he shriveled up my dreams like a raisin in the sun. I cant tell you enough DO NOT TAKE HIM, you WILL fail. This is not a challenge, please save yourself He's got an alright sense of humor though BUT do not take him.
terrible.
Disgustingly horrible professor that knows the class struggles. Didn't teach me a single thing about calculus; learned everything from self textbook use. You WILL struggle on exams which in theory "reflect what you learn", but will be so un-ordinary from class and webassign, that you'll spend alot of times in exams figuring out whats going on.
I cannot stress how horrible this professor is. He will leave you hopeless and confused. Even with the copious amounts of tutoring I attended nothing could have prepared me for those horrid exams. Save your money, save your time, and save your enthusiasm for an actual professor. Avoid at all costs, even delay your graduation. Its worth it.
It is crucial to do the webassigns for this class since all his quizzes and tests come from it. Trubatch isnt the best lecturer but he is very helpful if you ask for help one on one. Just work for the grade you want and you'll do fine :)
This professor taught us nothing. We were left hopeless and confused for the final exam. His quizzes and exams were completely unfair and so was his grading. He was rude and unhelpful. I wish I went and complained to someone about him because his class was really unfair.
Quizzes are only 3 questions, Exams are 5 questions, each question might have 2 parts.... he doesnt upload grades on Canvas, so good luck knowing what your avg is. He expects too much and you should learn things he doesnt teach, he said you guys are not pets, you should apply whatever tricks I teach you and apply them to what I dont go over
Had to get a tutor because this professor is dry, boring and scattered. Gives lots of homework and quizzes which is great for learning- except he gives one or two question quizzes where the questions are much more difficult than anything he went over. He changes his weights at the end of the semester - I went from a b+ to a C. Horrible
Wouldnt take this class with this professor if it's not needed. He was all over the place I didn't learn anything I had to watch youtube videos to understand what he went over. gave lost of homework and quizzes/exams. I dropped this class I was failing.
Super boring and quiet, hard class, seems to care about the subject but doesn't show it, gave me an F despite me having an A before the final and I had Covid for the final so I couldn't take it.
Prof Trubatch is a nice person, however, his teaching style is weird...he posts youtube videos before class and excepts you to learn to brand new concepts with the videos. He then "reviews" in class. I spent $6,000 on tutors (not joking) and 1 tutor quit on me. If you can do not take his class if you have to buckle up and find a tutor fast.
Professor Trubatch was friendly and seemed to genuinely care about students. If you have to miss class for a genuine reason, he is very understanding when given notice. However, he can get irritated by questions during class and also struggle to explain topics to students who aren't understanding it.
genuinely the worst class i have ever taken in my entire life. I have never ever experienced anything like this before. I was basically a straight a student up to this point and I am probably going to get a D in his class. completely new applications of things are regularly on quizzes, so studying feels pointless. avoid at all costs
Don't take this man for your mental health. He can't teach at all; it's actually shocking how bad he is at teaching. All he asks is, Does anyone have any logistical or organizational questions?. I tried my hardest, even got a tutor at one point, and I still don't get what he's talking about. you cannot blame the students for the professor's failure
In the beginning of the semester I honestly thought he was not that great but I realized it was because I was just being lazy. He is actually extremely kind and considerate. If I had to miss a quiz he would work with me and he opens up HW if you missed them to help you better yourself and your grade. His lectures are not bad. His lectures are fun.
his teaching is good. if you dont understand something, ask questions. idk why people were so willing to walk out of class confused when he's willing to work with students. no study guides but provides a lot of practice, u just need to ask where it is. also, do the assignments. a lot of the people who failed just didnt do anything but exams/quizzes
This is a really hard class. Professor is kind and cares about his students. However you need to be ready to study and practice almost daily if you want to receive a good grade. Sometimes it is hard to follow the lecture.
Honestly, what a great guy! He is also one of the smartest professors i had, very smart in calculus. He cares for the students and wants us to succeed. As long as you complete all the assignments by the deadline and do well on the exams, you should pass! Very accessible outside of class and even willing to open missed assignments to raise yr grade.
His lecture does not fit into what is on the exam or quizzes. He constantly uses desmos along with his lecture but it has little to no relavance to the content we learn. He's a nice guy who is willing to help but even when meeting him for student hours he gets frustrated if you dont immediately know the answer to a question. I do not recommend him!
Very difficult to have as a a teacher and im a very smart guy.
We know Calculus is hard to begin with but there is a right way to teach it still. Professor Trubatch is extremely smart and enjoys his topics. However, he is not a good professor, at times he doesn't communicate effectively, tests contain material we have not even covered, and at times has a somewhat nasty attitude. You can pass, study! a lot
First week of class he says we have a quiz based on sections 01 and 02 of webwork. Theres only 2 questions on the quiz and one of them was from 03… instant 50%. In class for 7hrs a week and don't learn almost anything have to learn on my own at home for hours on end.
Drop him, grades terribly, smiles when you are doing bad and answering wrong.
