Stuck on glorifying himself and taught us very little. Had 3 major projects due within a 4 week course! Were graded on reguritating matter instead of interpreting it! Boring and bad teacher....
There was not one bit of useful information that I learned in his class. It was rediculous.
Do not take this professor for the love of everything that is good in this world. Your assignments have no correlation with the material presented in class.
He's after the lucky charms! Don't take him, his topic is boring, his political views are too liberal, he has no idea what he's talking about, and his material is boring. Oh, and his test and research paper are pointless & impossible.
i thought he wasn't THAT bad
he's very cocky and egotistical, but if you can get past that, it's a pretty easy class. he makes it sound hard, but he grades very generously. wrote my essay the night before without reading the book and got an A.
class is borin, dont learn b/c he expects you to do so much, if u do ALL the work, he gives u a good grade, but its a lot, doesnt really teach, jus expects u to read outta the book all the chpters he assigns...overall, hes ok, not the best tho by far
This man is dogmatic with nothing but his own views in mind. He assigns papers that are frivilous to the material and makes the students teach eachother so he doesn't have to.
Egotistical jerk. Do not take his course!
Just Awsome teacher.
I really hated every moment in this class. This guy often changed his mind about what he wanted you to do for assignments. He would accept different things from different students which was totally unfair. Save yourself and time.
The WORST possible professor. Student presentations are the only information given (he lectured once & showed a ****ed cruise video) Egotistical, inappropriate, smarmy, politically outspoken & BORING. Do NOT take this professor if you respect yourself.
He's egotistcal and has strong points of view, and sometimes gets a little overzealous about tangents during discussions, but overall his coursework is very easy. Don't take him if you can't stand closed-minded people, though.
Coursework is pretty easy, everything is done in groups and it is easy to do well if you pay attention in class, even if you do very little reading. Generous grader. Not the most interesting professor, but I'm not very interested in philosophy and it's the grade that counts.
He's my favorite teacher so far. It might just be because I am in total agreement with just about all his "opinionated" views. His class is interesting, he's interesting, and I don't need coffee before his class, and that's saying a lot;)
This is the Professor Rush Limbaugh warned me about! This old fashioned liberal assumes everyone in class shares his opinionated biased views that have nothing to do with the course material. His intelligence and lectures are medicore at best. Also, he is only there half the time!
didnt learn a thing! was forced to listen to him praise himself everyday.... doesnt grade particularly hard though... best thing about him.. looks like a leprochaun
I thought this class was very easy. I got an A+ and I don't know what everyone is ranting about. We had two presentations per person and he talked a lot about art and the only reason he showed vacation video was because there was ART involved in where he went! Take this class!!!!!!!
Dr. Underwood was too lazy to teach his own class, and he instead filled the ENTIRE semester with student presentations. He was also very rude to his students, and would often openly criticize their work in front of the class. I learned absolutely nothing from this course.
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. Dr. Underwood is the best professor I have had thus far. The material was somewhat boring, but he did the best he could with it. He is a genuine, caring, brilliant man, and I highly recommend him for this course.
Well, he does hold strong opinions, but then again that is what you learn about for the semester, philosophers and their opinions. He is passionate about his work, perhaps a bit too passionate. You must have an open mind and be willing to take criticism. He did make the class easy..
very intuitive
Boy was it a mistake taking this class. For starters, he presented his opinion as fact, as if he's the only one who could know about the subject. He gave us a project to do, and changed his mind when we had 2 weeks to do it. openly criticized some, praised others. very immature professor
I'm surpirised he can stay awake in during his own lectures

This class was so boring. I think he liked to hear himself talk. He's very liberal and doesn't care if he offends you.
Easy class but BORING. Prof doesn't teach - it's all student presentations. He is biased, rude, and not helpful at all. I got an A, but it was the worst class with the worst prof I've EVER taken. Avoid this teacher like the plague if you respect yourself.
Dr Underwood is one of the best professors I have taken in my three years at USF. People love to complain I guess. He is easy, veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy easy to get an A in the class. When I took him, I had three classes, and I still got an A. He is very respectful and a truly nice man! Take his class!
all he did was talk about himself... we even watched a video of him singing on a cruise ship... yeah thatll make you learn alot. class will annoy and bore you to tears, but if you want an easy grade i suppose you should take him (id never take it again)
Prof. Underwood is an opinionated man, but he honestly cares about the education of his students. A lot of people complain about his willingness to tell you how he feels, but he is also equally willing to listen to you tell him he's wrong. I think he's a good teacher who really believes in what he's doing, and I'd take his class again.
I enjoyed the class. Everything we did was in groups which made it a lot easier to get a thorough understanding of the texts without the stress. He also has an amazingly fun personality.
I thought this would be a hard/boring class to live through, had to take it as an exit course...but was surprised at how quickly the semester went by. The student presentations are quick and harmless, and generally an easy A. Prof is quirky, but he has some good things to say, and really enjoys teaching these courses
I can see why people dont like him. He is very open with his opinions but in the end their really harmless. He is a fair teacher and more than willing to help you if you are having trouble in his class. I got a very high A which was nice because their are only about 3 major assingments.
I really enjoyed this class. Compared to what other kids were saying about their AOK teachers, Prof. Underwood is amazing. Mostly class discussion, a journal that we graded ourselves and one major paper. He truly loves his job and loves philosophy which makes the class so much more interesting. Very good if you like philosphical discussion.
This guy is hilarious, and his class was pretty easy. Self graded journal and a few class presentations. If you show up for class and pay attention you are pretty much garunteed an A. I'd recomend him for AoK
Dr. Underwood is definitely a character. Don't plan on being late for his class, he takes points off for that. Assignments are not fully explained. He is quite opinionated which isn't always a bad thing. The class was a waste of my time but at least I got an A.
Unequivocally the worst prof I've ever had. I found him impossible to contact outside class, rude to certain students & arrogant in his opinions to the exclusion of all others. About 40/45 students stayed to write negative comments on his evaluation at semester's end (I know because we all discussed it as we were writing them - seriously, we did).
I took him for Latin American Geo Perspectives Honors class. Very very easy. Fun, get us involved. Makes us really feel like we are a part of the latin american culture.
Cool guy, easy A, pretty interesting class. He does know a lot about Latin American and I thought I knew a lot already. I learned from him, but a lot of his "facts" are clouded by his own personal opinions. He is a classic liberal, humanistic, slighlty indoctrinating professor. I am pretty sure he is a communist. Isnt there a hotline for that? :-)
A prick...Not helpful, not fair, completely subjective. The only interesting part of the class was when he showed a video of him singing "Girl from Ipanema" while on a cruise. It was the most ridiculous thing I ever saw! He is the only B I've ever receieved...he said the book for the final paper wasn't approved when he approved it! DONT TAKE!!!!
pretty easy-going, and nice. hard to get ahold of him outside of class. made socrates bearable. very liberal, and puts his own opinions in too much.
I've taken three of his honors classes and they're the best I've had yet. Maybe those who didn't like him didn't give him respect or something, but no one I know dislikes him. Very smart, very nice. Only one of my professors yet to take us a class on a fieldtrip. Don't take him if you don't want to learn about culture.
If you do not respect him or do your work you will not pass this class. He is very clear in what he expects and is very fair, have good class participation and show some interest and you will do well plus he is avery interesting teacher and makes the class go quickly. I got an A while taking five other classes, so Im sure everyone else can too.
He's a pretty easy going guy who very generously extends papers. Really not too bad; just occasionally participate and you'll be fine.
He's arrogant--and you can tell by the way he speaks. His class is very boring, and intolerable unless you want to listen to someone constantly malign every single country that's not in Latin America. He thinks he knows everything, and he got on my nerves. I heard he was easy, but it's not worth it. BORING and CONCEITED.
He is an awesome professor. He can relate to a wide variety of things, knows many languages, and is very funny. He accepts everyone's views and doesn't say you are wrong when he disagrees. Great teacher, great class, easy grade. I highly recommend it if you have to take Arts/Humanities
His class really makes you feel like you are having fun. I learned a lot, but did not feels stressed! No tests, only fun projects!!
Very arrogant and quite boring. His class is forced by the Honors College and it shouldnt be. Fair grading and the class really isnt hard, hes just an obnoxious guy. I would recommend him before alot of the other honors professors who i hear are rough. Pretty easy but boring must go to class.
Great Class, Underwood makes it very interesting. No tests just projects which are pretty fun. You may or may not need the books so wait until you know you need them to buy them.
Very nice man. You will hate the class material if you dont like philosophy. But, if you do the readings, journals and projects you will get a good grade.
Go to class, be active, and do the work. Honestly the class was a little boring but in the end its all worth it.
He doesn't ever collect the notebooks he has you keep for any of his classes!
"mind, body,c" Do not take if you have a heavy load in other classes. This has got to be the most selfish self-centered teacher. He thinks his class is the only one students are taking, so he loads them down with videos and projects. He assigns a final project at the end in which you opt. to read a book, but only gives you 2 weeks! What an *****.
Sign up for a different course!!! Dr. Underwood is extremely biased and teaches his opinion as truth. He will criticize and possibly humiliate you if you do not agree and asks that your papers conform to what he believes. He also changed the original final project which was up to one's choosing to a 10 page research paper late in the semester.
Easy class, just do the work. If you don't get an A, you should drop out of college and go to a community college. Don't disagree with him on subjects he has written about, ie. magical realism, baroque stye, etc.
This guy is a good professor when he can keep his ego and volatile temper under control. He freaked out in class several times because of end of the semester stress. Ok, well we all have stress Dr. Underwood...not just you. Being rude and defensive to students in class lowered my level of respect for him. He is not approachable for help.
This teacher is very rude to his students; He grades based on how much he likes you and openly yells at & embarrassed students in class. I took him in humanities and he was ok, but in this class, he is egotistic and obnoxious. I dreaded every class. One time he was 45 minutes late to class, and still made everyone stay after, when he was late.
for those of you who did not like this teacher then you must have issues. The guy can be a little sarcastic, however i still think hes a cool teacher and most importantly his mind body n culture class is very easy AS LONG AS YOU DO THE WORK YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO .
Good professor! may not be suited for some students, as he doesn't lecture to much. Has various fun projects, which many students enjoyed over test.
He is a very tough grader. He expects you to go above and beyond just to get a decent grade. And stick to the correct format on outlines, or else he won't read it and give you a D. He's very knowledgeable and interesting, but an extremely tough grader.
This professor will appeal to a select few students who conform to his beliefs and ideals. Very liberal, he will attack students verbally who express a positive opinion of the Republican Party or Capitalism. Very arrogant, he has an opinion on many things he doesn't truly understand and believes that his class is the most important. To be Avoided!
AOK teacher, class was great, highly stimulating worked in groups a lot, got an A!!! read books come to class and discuss, its FUN!!
This class was the most fun class I've ever had. I learned a lot, and I laughed a lot while I did it. He's a demanding grader, but the work was totally enjoyable and his enthusiasm was contagious. We did a lot of projects, put on plays, ate, painted, and talked all through it. As another person said, read, come prepared, and talk, it's worth it.
He was unwilling to work with students even though he was a replacement instructor midway through the course. Tried to speak with him on numerous occasions and was dismissed without any assistance.
Good teacher. Inspired me to learn about things that enriched my life. As for the reviewers that describe him as overly liberal, I didn't mind it all (but, that's probably because I agree with him) but I can see how this could be irritating. He is a strict grader, and the midterm was not described clearly, but very interesting class. rewarding.
dr underwood was alot of fun.... lots of work but as long as you go to class you will get a good grade.. if you talk and participate every class you will be praised and walk away with an a "loved his class latin american modernisms in the spring"
He's an excellent professor. I guess he was a strict grader but he let's you know exactly what he's expecting from you so in the end it's easy to get good grades on assignments. The class was very enjoyable and fun. Always read the assignments and come prepared
Dr. Underwood was too lazy to teach his own class, and he instead filled the ENTIRE semester with student presentations. I don't mind doing a class presentation, but I don't like paying money to learn from undergrads. He was also very rude to his students, and would often openly criticize their work in front of the class.
This guy is ridiculous. He makes you write journal entries about every little thing. He assigns more reading than you can even do in between classes, and he has too high of expectations.
He is just mean. He expects undergrads to know everything already, and he is very full of himself and critical of others. He always seems in a bad mood.
Dr. Underwood had so many negative comments about him before I signed up for his class. I was so nervous. And on the first day he came off as a really strict teacher. Although, his 17th Century class was so fun, and he does a lot of activities to keep the class active. Yeah, theres a journal everyday, but he grades fair. take him.
I only took Mind, Body, Culture because it's an exit requirement but I ended up really liking Dr. Underwood's class. Yes, you have to write a lot of journal entries and there are 3 major projects BUT he's a pretty cool guy, especially if you participate in group discussions. For our group projects we all put on skits and it was really fun.
Horrible class. Everyone saying hes great...WHAT? For the last day of class he made us all dance to his weird music...by ourselves. He came into class acting like different characters. Bizare man. He definately seemed like his mood was enhance somehow to make him that weird. Run!
This professor is a very hard grader. He expects above and beyond for even a B. I have seen him humiliate and embarrass multiple students, for little or no reason. He's very critical of your opinion and comes off as very arrogant. I would not recommend him to a chimpanzee.
He's a great teacher who uses innovative methods to help the class learn. My first day I felt I might be overwhelmed by the amount of work required, but he splits the class into groups and it makes it a breeze. Is he different? Yes. But his class is fun and a joy to go to, just keep up with the reading.
HE DOES NOT LECTURE. HE BASES THE COURSE AND YOUR GRADE ON PRESENTATIONS. HE PROBABLY HAS NO TIME FOR LECTURES BECAUSE HE IS TOO BUSY READING FOR HIS OWN FUN.WITH ALL HIS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE, I EXPECTED TO LEARN SOMETHING FROM HIM. WE HAD A 6 PG BOOK REVIEW ON A TEXT WE HAD NO TIME TO READ BECAUSE WE HAD PRESENTATIONS AND LECTURES TO LEAD. :(
Dr. Underwood seems to perpetually be in a bad mood. His annoyance at his students opinions isn't hidden at all, and he has no tact in dealing with people. His grading system is weird, and the entire class seems to be set up to make things easy on him, which just seems lazy. Mind, Body and Culture was not fun.
At first he seems like he doesn't care, but once he realizes that you do he would bend over backwards to make the class interesting to you!!! I recommend...ONLY if you're willing to put in an effort!!!!
First of all, I am a firm believer that anyone who studies philosophy is mostly crazy and that's what you will learn about in this class. Secondly, this class will drive you crazy in more ways than one. The only thing you're graded on is presentations. You have to read a million and one books, so I hope you don't have other plans for the semester.
I have taken this professor multiple times. When you first look at the syllabus it seems like a lot. As the semester goes on, he realizes the amount of work and makes some of the assignments easier or takes them off. He is almost always filled with good surprises. keep an open mind, this isn't your lecture class.
This class had almost nothing to do with what was supposed to be taught. If you are looking to take The Arts, pick another class...unless you like leading discussions on novels, preforming plays, and salsa dancing for your final exam.
Everything we read in the class was written by him or mentions his opinion in some way. This allows no room for a true discussion because he just wants to hear you "analyze" his own work.
