Dude Uranga is the funniest professor I've taken at PCC. I love the fact that he knows how to relate this course with current events. I've taken him for polisci1,2 and 6. Totally recommentd him. Test are hard, but just study and you'll be fine. Offers x-tra credit so take advantage of it. Papers aren't difficult, and he's always willing to help 8)
He likes to talk...but sometimes what he told u to write down has nothing to do with the 4 exams.if u did bad on one.really hurts the overall grade.what he expects u to write on the exams are specific examples of your own and elaborate on the topic.can't just wrote things from de book. i think itz kinda hard.last..he's the most energetic teacher~
I can never stop talking about Prof.Uranga, he's one of the best things PCC has to offer, goign to calss and doing the work is requiered but come on he make it interesting and he's there to help.Take advantage of his willingness to help go to class do the work on time save a hard copy and your fine.TAKEHIMIFUWANTTOLEARNANDENJOYTHECLASS!!CUSUDO!!
Uranga is awesome!!! you must put in the time remember you're in college now! he's hilarious and makes Political Science interesting! A MUST TAKE!!! you won't regret it!!!
he is hard but not so hard if you study ,you can get a b but a is extremely hard unless you can handle essays problem, this sememter I have already wrote 10 essays..god~ but dacvid is still a funny professor, his class is fun but nothing to learn, you have to read book by yourself
He will shank those who don't study. Awesome morning professors because he really wakes you up with his sarcasm and wit. I wouldn't say he's super easy but to say that he is hard is crazy talk. You get answers to the multiple choice and essay questions prior to the exam. what else do you need? this isn't junior high.
His teaching is comprehensible. If you want to take a morning class and plan to stay awake... then you better take his class! The essays that he assigns mostly sound the same.. it's a bit hard but doable.. Just keep going to class and pay attention to what he ALWAYS repeats.. it'll surely be on the exam!
He gave the answers to the exam... what more can people expect?! However, the essays- you should definately prepare for those. Also, attendance is mandatory or he will "shank" you - stay in class because he'll throw out *hints.
His class is easy, he just yells A LOT. He over oversimplifies things, but is funny while he does it. There are just to many people in the class though.
the best teacher in the world!!!he actually knows what his talking about and i've learned so much from him.I recommend him 100%.
Funny professor. Political Science is gutt wrenching. He makes it as fun as possible
Prof. Uranga is an awesome political science professor. before taking this course i hated the subject political science but now from the help of prof uranga ive learned a lot about the subject and grew a strong interests for it. i highly recommend him!
This teacher is great. He explains things well, but if you don't study, it's not an easy class. It seems like it's easy, but you have to do your own work and study. hopefully you don't get stuck with a group of people who don't have a clue thought. he did a group project in winter. it was easy enough, but you gotta watch out
I took her class on line and my girlfriend took her class at school. Her classes are ok if you take note from her lecture. However, if you take her online class, you might fail, because the online exam are challenging and even you can open book to take the test, you might not be able to pass. Good luck to those who take her online section.
You get very few teachers in your college life who contain as much enthusiasm as Uranga has for teaching. He is consistent and determined to lecture in a way that amuses and informs. You will not have problems acquiring a good grade in his class if you prepare ahead of time and give your papers some thought. - Highly Recommend -
His class is for people who are either really into to politics or idiots. It's like being taught by a junkie the way he prances and shouts every SINGLE day he lectures. His class gets really annoying by time the last day to drop without a W passed. His lectures are spastic and tests are all based on the stupid CD-ROM! YUCK!
manipulates students N2 thinking that he's a good Prof. b/c he doesn't speakN a monotone voice, when really, he himself doesn't teach; he dances& sings useless info that will not helpN life. IfU didn't come to clsss& just read the bookU won't miss NEthing important. This class is not4 people whoR audible learners, b/c he doesn't teach the text!
I took his Polisci1 online class and it's really not that hard. There are a lot of assignments, but things are due every two weeks. You have plenty of time to get things done. I had a positive experience with him.
what can i say, Uranga is the man. He makes poly-sci fun when all other professors make it a snooze fest. He has so much energy and is very passioate about what he does.Professor Uranga does what ever he can to help his students class. if u want a fun class, take him.
He is the Best teacher i have ever seen.and the coolest teacher!!! eveyone who want take PolS 1,TAKE HE!!! take HE!!!He motivates you to learn a lot.and he is really fun.he also give you a LOT of help on the essay .he is the best teacher in PCC!!!
Just do the study guides, read the chapters that he blatantly tells you will be on the test and study the claims. Just like any other class except entertaining because he really does love what he teaches.
YES, Uranga is fun, loud and not monotone, BUT he makes absolutely no sense! He paces around class and expects you to write lecture notes on random comments he makes throught the class period. He ALWAYS starts on one point, never finishes, & begins talking about something else...sucks, DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Took this class in Spring '07 in his last ITV instruction. He is very cool because I HATE HISTORY and somehow I didn't feel so obliged coming to his lectures. It's helpful to write like you give a damn about what you're writing because the papers I was super-technical on I got the worst grades. On my most passionate paper, I got my best one. YMMV.
He is by far one of the best teacher at PCC. He makes his class fun and entertaining while learning. When I took his class in Spring 2008, I was clueless about Politics. Now, I am ready and confident to debate any of you suckers:p - Take him! You will definitely learn a thing or two. Good luck!
He is fun, does ramble on. But he lets you bring a 1page study/cheat sheet to tests.Grades on curve.Put effort into project and participate/cheat sheet on test should do fine and get an A. He's entertaining and cool, tries to connect with class. A for effort to Prof Naranja!! :)
The best teacher on earth! Crystal clear lectures. Just an amazing teacher.. PCC's MOST WANTED TEACHER! SO if you are reading this prof. Uranga i better get extra credit points for saying this.. If you need a name for the extra credit point just let me know hahah......... Terrific teacher MAGNIFICO!
HE'S A GREAT TEACHER. LOVE HIM TO DEATH. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS I TOOK THIS CLASS DURING SUMMER, IT WAS ALOT OF WORK. YOU ONLY HAVE 2 HRS TO WRITE 2 (5 PARAGRAPH ESSAY) AND 3 (SHORT ESSAY) ON EXAM, BUT IT WAS GREAT, CAUSE HE GIVES OUT A STUDY SHEET W/ THE Q'S ON THEM. ATTEND CLASS, TAKE NOTES, AND YOU'LL DO GREAT.
Mr. Uranga is so freakin' funny and hot!TAKE HIM!you'll really learn alot
Uranga will make you love political science. The guy knows his stuff, and gets serious in the lecture when it's necessary. He will make you laugh, and will keep you awake. His tests are not that difficult, you just have to make sure you do your readings to do well on the essays.
TAKE IT!HE IS THE BEST MOST ENTERTAINING TEACHER EVER. HE REALLY GETS THE STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE LECTURES. FOR THOSE THAT ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT HIM YOU WERE PROBABLY ONE OF THOSE STUDENTS ALWAYS TALKING IN THE BACK OF THE CLASS AND YOUR JUST TRYING TO GET BACK AT HIM FOR FAILING YOUR DUMB ASS BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T TRY. THIS IS COLLEGE NOT PRE-SCHOOL
His online class is hard. 7 essays and 6 discussion posting plus 4 exams. You cannot buy a used book because this teacher doesn't use PCC website; instead, he cooperates with eduspace.com. So you have to buy the new book to have a passkey to join the class (The website is not useful at all)...so mean to do that. We are students- what can we do?
not an easy teacher, but very entertaining! his tests are tough and you need to reach the book. he tests about 3 chapters at a time. 50 multiple choice and one essay. he gives you essay questions to chose from prior to the test. lectures are rarely about the book, just current political issues.
it may seem as an easy class at first, but it gets harder. He has 4 midterms/tests. Each has a essay and 50 multiple choice. A 5-8 page research paper. Must read book to pass.
I attended his class back in the fall of 2001.He was funny. I remember him going up on the teacher's desk and imitating thrusting motions demonstrating what Bush wanted to do with Sadamm. I had a blast in his class and learned a lot. I felt heard. I'm now a teacher and use his methods to keep everyone busy and involved. Thanks Mr Uranga.
one of the best teacher at PCC, pol sci 6 was a great class, i learned a lot. it's easy to get an A, as long as you study and ask questions, he will help you out as much as you need. he gives students incentives to work hard, and when it comes to grading, he's easy. He loves teaching and his students, take him for POLSC6, he has lots of experience.
Uranga is a really funny and entertaining teacher, at first it seems easy but hes SUPER HARD! I mean he gives 4 midterms and one 5-8 page essay! his tests are 50 MC and 1 essay question! i dont know over all he would talk about what is going on at the time and then he would want us to know everything in the book on the midterms! hes just confusing!
Discrimination! It never happened to me before I took his class! If you are not white, dont take him.He is the worst teacher I have never met.He thought he is funny, but if funny means lavatorial, indecent.I got B after midterm but I still dropped the class, because I could not stay in the class when he always made fun with my country and my people.A.H
Professor Uranga is an awesome guy. He truly cares about his students. He likes to joke around and make the class fun. I would recommend this his class, he is not boring. Read the textbook and participate and you'll do fine. Participation is not required. He randomly picks on students sometimes but doesn't ask them difficult q's they're mostly pers
One of the best teachers at PCC definitely. He gives 4 midterms(MCs+essay) and 1 paper(5-8 pages). The class is hard and the text is boring, but he makes the subject fun and enjoyable. Attend class, read the book, and do the extra credit, it will help if he gets to know you.
Very intertaining and unique. His tests aren't easy but he truly cares about educating his students. He's there for you if you have any questions or dont understand the material. MUST READ the text. One of the best prof i ever had. Not an easy A but recommend him if you're not lazy and don't mind studyng.
He tries to make jokes all class period to help you understand the material. I don't think he is funny, it actually gets to be annoying. But you can do well in his class if you assert your own opinion.
worst teacher honestly what he talked about in class had nothin to do with the book but yet the tests were all about book information so basically you had to be your own teacher and know every single thing, emailed him many times about questions never answered my question until this day. worst teacher i dont recommend he tries to joke not funny
i was actually recommended this teacher from other students but was disappointed with the class out of 220 people only 2 people actually got an A with his grading and at the end he allowed some people with a high B to recieve an A but he had already decided only 20 would recieve that grade out of a class of 220! joked too much didn't teach enough!
it was a waste of time for me to go to the class. all he does in class is joking around and making fun of people. although I am not black, I personally found his "black" jokes not funny and a bit offensive. he thinks white people are superior than others; he wants his students to think that he is rich (which i found this VERY unnecessary). hate it.
Took his online class in Winter Session-very hard, but active participation in the blogs will help your grade enormously. Extremely hard tests even though they were open book. Hard grader on 3 essays-add a few more meaningful pages than he requires-it will boost your grade. Overall, I would highly recommend the online class, but its fast-paced.
One word FUN! He is very passionate about this subject. Those who didnt enjoy the class must not have a sence of humor! He is energetic and you will never be board. One of best classes ive taken at pcc! Grades fair.If you want a fun class that wont put you to sleep, take him.He is like no other teacher!
He's fun and entertaining but his tests are really hard. You HAVE to know most of the key terms in the book and read. Don't forget to the do online quizzes and the JOURNAL. the journal screwed up my grade. I tried really hard in the spring sem09 and i got a B. he gives essay questions prior the test so you know what's gonna be on it!
His class made me want to shoot myself in the face. He was SO annoying. All he did was make very stupid jokes and do horrible impersonations. His class "lectures" had nothing to do with test content. Taking his class is a major waste of time. If you end up taking him just sign in and slip out the back door after 5-20minutes. Thats all need in there
Uranga is an awesome teacher, he is passionate about politics, a big hillary fan, his impersonations are not that good but hilarious... his test are alright u have to read, make sure he knows who you are because he will not care about your presence
Do not take this professor unless you want to learn the subject on your own! None of the stuff he lectures on is on the exam, he is very unclear of what he wants from students, and he grades extremely hard as well. Be prepared to listen to biased jokes, racial comments, and nonsense for 1.5 hrs

I took him in the summer, alright but goes fast...comparative politics is better with him than with the other polsc prof's. He makes you write only one paper about the 2 countries of your choose make an argument and that is all.Easy essay grader... test are not had because if you pay attention he gives you hits, and the test practice look similar t
I have him for polsc 2 also...very funny teacher, he makes fun of politicians, and world countries but what he says is true...Don't take it offensive, he tells you that too. Easy class, but those who don't like him are haters, haters, haters...you have to have an open mind..2 test and a paper apprx 10pages on the J Curve book but very easy,,,Those
He makes fun of political figures a lot. It's funny but can get repetitive throughout the semester. Attendance mandatory -- he gets pissed if you skip class, A student or not. Only problem I have is that he doesn't write down feedback on tests/papers. Its just like, ok 92% without an explanation. Class is straightforward with lots of chances for EC
This guy's a riot! Very entertaining, high energy. His lectures are a lot of fun. Tests are not hard if you pay attention and take notes. I wish other professors were this enthusiastic about what they teach.
He tries to be funny all the time, and only succeeds sometimes. Make sure to study for his tests and I agree that the survival guide wasn't really that helpful. He doesn't give you too much feedback but does offer to help you during his office hours. He is very opinionated and likes to address current events in class. Over all good professor.
This teacher is the definition to "passionate teaching"! He really cares about his students and will do everything within his power to help you pass his class. My level of disinterest for Poli Sci was extreeeeeeemely high. Know I actually care about what is going on in the world thanks to Mr. Uranga. He is the BOMB!!!!
He's a good teacher! I took PolSci1 last Fal09..You'll never fall asleep when you're in class. His survival guide helped me a lot! Take his class...
the itv class was easy. gave test questions a few days before the test day. easy grader. online 10 question tests are easy and its all the same for everyone. handed out a few extra credits. professor uranga jokes around a lot, not that bad of a class. i reccommend him, if you want a fun and easy class.
I hate politics. Hard to understand but professor's enthusiastic explanations help a lot and keep me awake.
Love that guy man!!He's a blast! he know how to keep your attention in a class that is not necessary your favorite subject. He make lots of joke, test are pretty easy, easy grader, and he always gives you a hand on your grade if you ask him questions. highly recomended!!!
Tries too hard to be funny. He speaks casually but his occasional attempts to be funny distracts you from what he was talking about. I know he's a nice guy and is helpful when you talk to him 1 on 1, I just wish it was like that in the lecture. Survival guide is helpful in the sense that you can use it, but it's hit or miss.
Great and entertaining
Uranga is the best teacher I've had at pcc by far he loves what he teaches and his passion has inspired me to get into politics myself. Lots of essays but he grades easy and it actually will help your grade.USE THE SURVIVAL GUIDE
Prof Uranga is the best! He really wants you to pass his course. There is allot of writing. He even lets you cheat with his study guide! If politics and US gov is not ur thing then take this professor, you wont fall asleep ever in ANY of his classes!
I love how he's so passionate about his job! He cares about the students! I'll admit he does give out a lot of work but the grading are super easy! He's funny and crazy!! But very entertaining there will never be any teacher like him! Study guide kinda useless but towards the end he changed his test up and make the study guide more useful.
Let's you use notes during test.. He really wants you to pass this class! Gives out plenty of Extra credit
Grating, annoying, like a failed comedian. Wish he would stop babbling and just teach.
sooo annoying! I took him online and he is so disorganized and does not grade properly. He'll give you a low grade with no explanation. He needs to put more effort into his online class because he seems to be computer illiterate. He doesn't respond to emails in time and changes due dates without announcing it.
His class is horrible. Hes so annoying, makes no sense when he talks, and blabs on with racial jokes and tires too hard to be funny. His tests are HARD, very HARD and it doesnt help that he doesnt cover the material in class. His class is non stop failed jokes that gets under your skin... good luck, hes a jerk!
Very entertaining Professor unlike other monotone professors, Uranga will keep you awake and laughing. his quiz are easy and all from the book, essays are straightforward and he drops the lowest score! oh and it takes 65% or below to get a D so you cant fail the class!
Dont take him, you will end up wasting ur time and falling behind a semester like I did. I spend over $400 on his class and had to drop. He tries to be funny, makes racial rude jokes that aren't funny and is obnoxious. Hes very hard. His tests are long and he expects you to know the book word for word. On top of it all, hes a jerk and obnoxious
Uranga is a self centered, selfish man. His tests are extremely hard, and hes not very clear on his instructions for his assignments. He screams and yells and sings dumb songs that get under you skin. He expects you to READ the ENTIRE book and know all the content which is impossible. He blabs on about his political opinions rather than the subject
His tests are hard, but not difficult, he tells you what will be on the tests before hand so all you have to do is READ! Apparently reading is too difficult for some to manage. HE IS A GOOD PROFESSOR, do not fall behind on reading, ask him for help, take good notes, and you will survive. Worked hard for my A, but it was worth it!
THE LION OF PCC!! This guy actually made me like politics. He is the most malleable teacher I have had. Make sure he learns your name, you will get away with a lot!! Had a B according to the computer, and he gave me an A!!
I took the ITV course and it wasn't too bad. You gotta do the work or you're not gonna pass. Actually, I missed and essay and still passed with a B. So I mean you should pass his ITV class, or you honestly just suck.
He is not too shabby of a teacher. He is the most enthusiastic professor I have ever had. If you don't like politics, then give this guy a try. He helped me understand and care about politics. Do take!!!
This class is pretty hard, i took it in spring 2010. I did 14 essays in total. He wants you to write about politics and government. Every paper is like a research paper if you dont really know about politics. Each paper is about 2-3 pages long He does not teach, all he does in class is telling jokes. Pretty boring class.Just Work Hard and hard. -IC
He is an amazing teacher yells to get your attention :)wants you to pass.
This teacher is fantastic and knows how to keep the class attention. He makes the lecture interesting by telling lot of jokes. However, it's not an easy class. U have to study u'r butt off and do lot of essays. I recommend this class for polisci major because he makes u really understand clearly the basic of US politics..
easy class as long as you do what u suppose to do. online mid-terms are online so you can flip your pages. i took it during summer, i worked hard to get my A. He is gonna curve(actually wrong terminology) our grades to be 85+ = A 75=B 55=C. Come on the grading is a lot easier than other prof., just do your reading you will be fine.
he is a very interesting teacher and tells a lot of joks in class. but the midterm tests were very hard. if you know how to cheat this class is for you because most of A students in his class were cheaters. i recommend this class to poletic major students and only those who are professional in cheating.
Very difficult class. Tests are hard to prepare for due to the massive amount of material they cover. Professor grades hard on essays. However, professor is very pleasant and funny. Professor will also help with essays outside of class. Recommended.
He's a very energetic teacher, and he will keep you awake. HE yells a lot. The test aren't too hard, just study your survival guides and use them as well. Had a B but it surpisingly went to an A! =)
Easy A!
He is awesome!! he rocks his class!!! u'll never feel bored to attend the class becoz he makes the lecture fun and entertaining..he's great at making funny face/act/ story that will catch u'r attention and laugh...really miss his class though
he is great. a lot of work, but do it at the beginning of semester so dont have to take the final.
chill teacher. a little wild, but he makes class humorous. I took the ITV course. 7 meetings. Drops one test. Class is graded on curve. the curve in my class starts at a B. So if i could get 40% of the points i will get a C in the class.
He sure does talk a lot! Haha he's a very good teacher though because he wants you to do good.
Best teacher ever!! Very lively, pushes and pushes you to get through the class. Lots of extra credit chances, draws on current events, listens to student's opinions, reads and responds to emails, open-note tests, grades tests quickly. He brought in both Democrats and Republicans in to talk to us. Repeats himself to make sure that you get the content. Very very fun professor. If you can get him, take him!
I took his Political Science 1 ITV class and trust me it's not that hard. He gives you a study guide to fill out to use for the midterms and many many extra credit chances so it's hard to fail the class! The study guide practically saved me. Just make sure you do them. Don't expect it to be an easy A without hard work though!
Prof. Uranga is hilarious. I took his ITV; it was pretty easy, five midterms w/ one lowest score dropped plus four short papers. If you study a bit you should be fine to pass, an A is not out of the question at all. He lets you use a study guide on the tests.
Prof. Uranaga is veryy hilarious. I took his ITV class which is very easy. Make sure to fill out the study guide and NEVER procrastinate. It is impossible to fail his class unless you didn't try.
Extremely funny!! Of course he does make you learn about this subject. take him!!!
great professor! super hilarious! made politics so much more interesting & really easy to comprehend. online quizzes are easy! for the tests, he allows us to use the study guide, SO put it to use! hands down one of the best professors at PCC!
ITV. He's hella crazy. Runs around singing, yelling, screaming and sweating up a storm up there lecturing. It's funny to some, but some will find him ridiculous. Just read the text, and the tests are pretty straight forward. Essays, you just gotta know your shiet. Easy peasy.
Some students said that he is strict and unfair grader.I think he is pretty easy as long as u take his class seriously.I ended up with a A for his online political S class. In addition, I got perfect score for this final FB project, which is the only one in that class. If u wanna learn and take his class seriously, I think u can end up with an A.
Prof. Uranga is very entertaining and enthusiastic about the political process. He is able to make the current political climate relevant to our learning experience. He is generous in grading, and he also offers Extra Credit.if you attend the classes, take notes you will achieve an A, easily.
funny professor. weird at the beginning but will get used to him. easy A with a little bit of work.need to read the material. highly recommanded. i already did.
I have professor Uranga for the summer ITV course. There are 5 in class exams (each accompanied by an essay) and 5 online exams. He drops your lowest score on each. Textbook use is mandatory, and allows for the study guide on exams, just be sure to READ all the material for the exams or he will shank you...I recommend him 100%
Greatest professor at pcc. Learned so much.
If you aren't interested in politics and it puts you to sleep...take him!!! He is the Robin Williams of Poli-Sci! He makes it interesting! He is always willing to help with any questions! You will love him 4 sure!! He is funny and entertaining. By the time you leave you will know your own political party and you wont be in the dark!
He is Awesome! I did not like Politics but he made it fun and interesting. Funny and entertaining. He will also do what he can to help you pass his class. Definitely the best professor at PCC
I took the online class. The instructor is not boring, I like his views, but in the online you have little interaction. He can be very sacastic. I would not suggest you take the online classs but from what I gather in person he is a really good teacher. The online is fair but you have group work that adds to the confusion
Professor Uranga is the best he is funny and you have to go to every class he said that is out of respect,...so go..you need to read the book. he gives the test questions but they are not easy so be prepared to read a lot and write good long answers that make sense. He is very helpful if you are an ESL student wait because it can be hard for you.
read and do the work, and you will get an A. He has a very helpful TA that can give you relevant advice. I recommend him!!! :)
I took the ITV version of this class. Read the book and do the workbook and you'll pass. He's a good Professor, very informative and makes the class very entertaining.
I personally did not like his teaching style. He didn't really teach anything. Everything that I learned was from the book and the internet. He keeps changing the midterms. I would never take his class ever again. Difficult to contact
I took the hybrid class and at first was very nervous. Throughout the semester I did the work and contacted him for ec or for help. He was very easy to reach and very helpful. I would recommend this class. It's hard but political science is not easy just do the work and quit complaining.Great professor!
All he ever did was talk about Obama.... obama this obama that.... all day every day.... it was annoying.... and his tests never EVER had a single question about him.. lectures had nothing to do with tests but at least they were open notes
Great professor! He has a great sense of humor and is very entertaining. He makes you want to learn! Class isn't hard, just TAKE NOTES and attend ALL classes. There are 4 essays, 4 tests, and 4 exams. He sometimes gives you a study guide, and sometimes doesn't so read the book just in case!
I agree 100% with what the below reviewer said! Additionally, if you are aiming for a A or B, you'll definitely need to do the READINGS... that's important! If you BS any of your essays, he'll shank your grade! As long as you take his class seriously, you'll be fine! Uranga is perhaps my favorite Professor I ever had... kudos to him!
I love Professor Uranga a lot. His class gives us so much freedom. I mean he taught us between the Left and the Right even though our classmates are super majority of Democrat. He supports women and minorities. We wrote about 30 essays, including extra credits. Yes, needs to read a lot, I agreed.
Really funny and nice man! Tests seemed hard but he curves the grades and grades fairly easy. Do EVERY assignment and extra credit! I'd recommend taking his regular class over ITV unless you can really motivate yourself to study and do the work. Meetings are only for test and lectures for the next test.
awesome professor this guy is an example of how all professors should be in the aspect of how motivated he is. his motivation makes you understand the material better.polly sci is a boring subject not in urangas class you will have alot of fun while learning
The online class was a piece of cake! The directions were as clear as possible and most of the assignments were easy! With the exception of 2-3 slightly difficult true/false homeworks, you will enjoy the class. I highly recommend.
I took his ITV class way back in Fall 2011. He was a wonderful Professor who is a natural comedian. His tests, though, look like they were taken from an AP Government exam. He gives you essay prompts ahead of time and a cheat sheet, so I suggest writing the essay ahead of time, put it on the cheat sheet, and copy it onto the tests. IT WORKS! :D
I took Uranga's ITV course and received a B without ever looking at my book. He's an easy grader and curves a lot. It is easy to get a good grade if you try. Even if you don't try its hard not to get a C.
Cool teacher, the work and test are pretty hard but as long as you stick with it, your almost certain to pass.
This professor is just awesome. He is really funny, really informed, and really just wants everyone to pass! He will do anything and everything too for you to pass! You will not be bored in this class, if you even decide to show up!
Took his poli science 1 class online. Met him at our 1 & only orientation. He is FUNNY! Do the online discussion and assignments online. Use the book for the tests and exams and you will get at the very least a B. Recommend him!
Prof.Uranga is a very nice, helpful, and knowlegable professor. I took his class during the spring semester of 2013.I was so very worried about writing essays because English is my second language. But he is very helpful and encourages students to visit him during his office hours.I learned a lot in his class. Thanks, Prof.Uranga--Best Professor!
First I received an email stating the class meeting time is 6:50PM, 50 mins later than its original time, so i decided to still showed up at 6, and found him in the room already lecturing and bunch of people like me who looked lost. and his essay questions that doesn't allow people to use notes is just preposterous. I ended up dropping the class.
Great energy. Engages class on current events.
Poor Prof ever, you learn nothing from the class. U have to buy a new version of textbook w the code, otherwise He said u will fail the class, and the book almost $100, which is not very useful. Tons of homework and reading, even for a short term. Our major is not political science, but he makes u to be. DONT NOT TAKE HIM, HE IS NOT GOOD AT ALL.
Awesome teacher! Very energetic! I am not one for politics but he made the class very fun!!! He's like Robert Downey Jr., Robin Williams and Roger from American Dad in one haha. Definitely take his class, he makes the requirement fun!
HE is CRAZY! in a good way. Very passionate about his job, and the success of his students. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR A SHORT TERM CLASS, there is just a lot of work and quick jumping around. He is helpful so ask questions!
The most energetic professor I've had the pleasure to take and kinda sounds like Robin Williams! I took him for the ITV Summer course. Grade consisted of 5 in class exams and 10 online quizzes. Learning the material was left entirely up to us. To get an A just read (Worked for me) I'm sure its a little different for a semester class so beware!
overall, he really enjoys his job and loves politics. I took ITV for the Spring Season and i joined a study group. the group helped a lot. Other than thta there is a lot of reading and he wants all his students to pass, he does care. He makes random jokes, hes funny! i say take him!
great teacher! i learned so much just by his lectures. The booked helped a little. not a poli. sci major but was very engaged. he has so much energy its ridiculous he's the best teacher I've had at pcc so far! :)
He is very articulate and will work one-on-one if there is anything you don't understand. He is very open-minded and thought provoking. His class does not require a lot of work at all.. 4 exams and a paper. EVERYTHING is in the book. It is not difficult. He is very entertaining and absolutely hilarious. Best professor at this school.
Love Prof. Uranga, he is super energetic and makes you get interested. Mostly self taught, when you read the book. The class is awesome becuase of the teacher. In the process of your papers, when really is specific with what he wants, what your missing and what your messing up on.
Professor Uranga is one of the best around PCC. He is extremely helpful and nice, respectful, astronomically knowledgeable, energetic and charismatic. He also really cares about his students. He always answers within a day, even though I knew he had around 300 students the semester I was taking his class. He really inspired me and helped me improve.
took polsci as ITV. it was kinda of hard due to the fact we met every 3 weeks, and you have to study all 3 essay questions and he picks 1/3, so you better know them all. showing up to his class was so much fun because he keeps you entertained and wants you to pass. although his helped kris.. wasn't very helpful. he was kinda of mean
Best PoliSci class ever, I personally hate anything that has to do with history or government, but when I walked into his Honors Class I was blown away. He is very funny and makes the class very interesting that even I understood what was going on He is there to help you pass and it is up to you if you take on his help. Prof Uranga is the best ever
prof uranga is the best for pols sci he makes sure you understand the course and actually learn! he makes the class entertaining so you wont get bored in a pols sci class! his TA actually helps a lot if you just reach out
Very energetic guy who makes you interested in political science...can jump from topics when speaking so stay alert, take notes, and I'd recommend attending each class. Got an A but you've gotta work for it. Read the book, get 100's on the chp quizzes..do good on tests..lowest score is dropped!
Wow. This professor can really teach. Because of Uranga, I'm in love with politics. He makes homework fun, especially working with your pods on the term paper. I never thought that doing research on a policy can be so so so fun!
Great teacher, took his honors course and I really enjoyed his class. Show up to class, complete the assignments, and you will be fine.
OK, he's funny and all, but so disorganized! You canvas message him and he's super cryptic. For Honors course you had to write a term paper, and basically the entire year, the lectures were about the paper. He's a great guy but it'll be a self-taught class. Not sure how the reg. course is, but in honors I didn't learn much!
I took his LGI course. He really makes his lectures entertaining with jokes and skits. Only 4 Exams (for each unit of the book) and 1 dropped. Do chapter quizzes online and prepare for in-class exams. No term paper.
Very passionate about his teachings. Wants to see you succeed. Very one sided but not in the most ignorant way. I can't imagine anyone failing that class. It was easy. Practically gives you all the answers. I recommend him highly. Keeps the class interesting all the time.
All you have to do is take the online quizzes at home and you can google the answers or check the textbook. The quizzes can be taken 2-3 times and the highest grade is kept. There are 4 exams and the lowest grade is dropped! Study his multiple choice study guide that he hands out a few days prior to the exam because they have the same questions.
Great guy. Extremely fair on all levels. Took an LGI course that required no homework or assignments. There are 4 tests of which he drops the lowest grade. Show up, read the book and there is no way you can fail.
Subject is dry, but he makes this class wonderful and entertaining. Attendance is not mandatory but you should go just to be entertained XP Drops the lowest test. I did not have to take the final. If you study 4-5 hours for each test, you'll ace this class easily
Funny guy, entertaining class, but even though I got an A, I wouldn't be able to tell you a single piece of significant information that I learned from him. The entire semester was just him running around the room ranting pointless rants about Obama. Sure, I laughed, sure I got a good grade, but if you want to learn, take someone else.
He's a wild professor; he sings, screams, makes sound effects, faces, hits the table and what not. You won't fall asleep that's for sure. He makes a huge effort to make sure you're not bored with the subject. Tests were easy. He spends days before prepping you for them and has the questions up online. Study w the book and you got it.
POLS 1 Online -- AVOID FOREVER Shows no respect to online class students. Less communication or interaction with students. Unclear instructions or guidelines for discussions and essays. Due date was never clear, could be today or tomorrow, and suddenly closed. No rubric or grading criteria.
HILARIOUS, love him. He's extremely funny and definitely makes poli-sci interesting. Not once did I leave class wout laughing at any point. Lets you know what to exactly study for weeks prior to tests. Gives extra credit. Awesome professor
Attendance isn't mandatory, just make sure you read the chapters before the test. Tests consist of half 50 multiple choices and an essay prompt. Essay prompts are given earlier, so you can plan it out. Do the EC, do well on all the online quizzes, and you will get at LEAST a B
Mr. Uranga is a very funny man, he truly expresses his own personal thoughtsopinions about government aside from his teaching, which is what makes the class interesting and fun. The quizzes (online) are fairly easy, the exams are mostly short and long answer written questions (gives questions before exam to study), and offers extra credit.
The tests are now written exams. Gives you the test weeks in advance. It usually is 3short +1long essay+small easy things. HE TELLS YOU THE ANSWERS IN CLASS SO LISTEN TO HIM. There are online quizzes. Pair up with classmates and find all the answers. You get 2 attempts. extra credit counts as a 4% boost to total grade. Easy grader. no assignments.
THE best teacher I had for fall 2014 loved his class really funny and helpful guy If your at least a bit interested in this course and take him, class goes by fast so don't fret lazytired ones! Just listen to his lectures come to class and AT LEAST read here and there to get an idea of the chapters and you'll do fine on his four tests
David Uranga is a funny professor and his class was enjoyable. This class is for students who already have a basic understanding of politics. If not then you'll need to read a lot. Test were tough since they require written answers. The group project depends on teammates a lot. Uranga offers a lot of help on the draft so finish asap. Not easy.
funny guy however spend most of his lectures talking about current events rather than the material from the book.
I will say he's the greatest professor in PCC, who inspires me to take polsc as my major. As first, he seemed really tough, and grade is most likely based on 4 exams and 1 paper only. But then, you will find him really helping you alot to improve your grade. Nice professor ever, and GREAT lectures all the time!
This man is hands down the worst teacher I have ever had. His lectures are unorganized and his assignments unclear. He's funny, but that's all the praise I can give him. I pulled several allnighters, wrote several papers, got an A, and learned nothing. If you need an easy A for credit, take him. If you want learn, find someone else.
This is by far the worst online class I've ever taken. His instructions are unclear and if you havent taken an online course before , don't let this be your first. Also, he Is rude in his response to email questions and doesn't put much effort in helping you understand. Just hope for a good group to figure it out on your own. Good luck.
Great professor! He is very passionate of his politics. No tests or quizzes only group (Pod) work through out the semester! Wish we would've used the book so I wouldn't have spend so much money on it. Overall I felt up to date with what was going on politically, very informative class!
He was great and funny. take his class he the best
This class was a colossal waste of time. There was no real teaching; assignments were unclear at best; due dates constantly changed; and grades were completely opaque with no feedback. He tries to be funny but it gets old very quickly. The stress of not knowing what's expected is not worth it. I strongly advise taking someone else.
Not sure if it's because I'm taking it in the summer, but Uranga is definitely below-par. I would not recommend him. Like I said, it might just be the summer, but he doesn't actually lecture. The closest thing to a lecture is the powerpoint on canvas, and that's fairly vague. Also, he tries waaaay too hard to be funny. *rolls eyes*
Who gave him the chili???? You don't really need to show up for his class, just don't miss exam days. He gives out a few points of extra credit but nothing too crazy. His lectures sometimes don't even correspond to the exams and his tests are all a mixture of APUSH quizlets. Lowest C is a 65% or something so it's easy to pass but not to get an A.
I took the 6 week course. His class does not require attendance, However his "lectures" can be very insightful and helpful to apply into your notes. His humor can be "funny", but it depends on the individual. He used Connect for online assignments and prep quizzes. I learned a lot in this class. If you're a lazy student, don't take this class.
this class, one word. TAKE. Uranga is an amazing prof. he's funny and loves what he does. I took his poli Sci in a room full of 100+ students he probably didn't even know my name but that doesn't matter because I enjoyed his class either way. Tests are scantron multiple choice and a short essay. You'd have to be pretty silly to not get an A.
Awful experience. Direction was not clear. Due dates contradicted each other. He was not clear when giving feedback.
Stepped into class not really into poli sci, stepped out of class feeling grateful for taking it. Uranga is such an AMAZING teacher (ps. he's funny af), he's stays after class to answer questions and offers so much time for his students. Dont forget to mention his extra credit assignments. I started off with a C ended the semester with a A.
Professor Uranga, is absolutely thee best professor at PCC. I got his Political Science class 1A and his class was so much fun. he makes his lectures fun and hilarious. Always cracking jokes, and gives out extra credit like candy. Homework is easy and Exams are easy as well. I loved his class! i highly recommend him!
Professor Uranga is an amazing professor. I took his PolySci1 class and I really enjoyed it. I think his method of teaching is awesome because you're never bored. He gives so much information but in a very entertaining way, funny guy. There were 4 tests and each test included a short essay question which he provided the question earlier before.
DONT TAKE HIS POLITICAL SCIENCE 1 CLASS ONLINE! I am a poli sci major and am very familiar with all the subjects discussed YET I got a B?? Every time I would email him he would never respond. I heard he's alot better in person.
Professor Uranga's teaching style is quite unique but makes class more enjoyable! He's hilarious and doesn't assign much homework at all. Assignments are basically reading the text and taking quizzes but he gives study guides so I suggest actually going to class.
Amazing professor. Online quizzes, study guides and he really helps you get to the grade you're aiming for, just don't be a stranger to hum- and don't miss too many classes.
Small amount of points that make up your overall grade- tests are 20 pts; quizzes & xtra credit are 1pt; and one candidate report out of 25 pts. Numerous, easy extra credit opportunities. Pretty much goes by the book when he isn't showing interesting documentaries. Quizzes are difficult. Will be very entertained by his singing - I mean teaching.
Prof. Uranga is one of the funniest profs I've taken at PCC. He is very passionate about his subject. He gives online quizzes, extra credit opportunities, and exams are in-class half your exam grade is based on the online chapter quiz and the other half is quarter multiple choice and a quarter essay question. Just answer the question accurately.
He's pretty clear in his speeches just sometimes extends them, other than that he's easy and super cool. He wants you to pass. Make an effort and you will! Show up to class and take notes
At the age of.... hell, let's just say "late 40's" I returned to college and choose Pasadena City College. It was my 2nd class of the first semester and was literally laughing my ass off from the moment he spoke. Concise and to the point, Loves what does and he made me a more informed person in regards to politics, 4 that, I'm am grateful.
Worst lecturer I've had. I didn't learn a single thing from his lectures, only by doing homework. He mainly only talks about his own life and political preferences, and constantly makes the worst jokes. Very annoying, but also very easy class (if you can put up with him).
Put in some work, and you will get a very good grade. Took the class in a giant lecture hall. He really tries to make an impression on his students. Pretty straightforward class. Definitely take his class, very funny and laid back. Attendance is very important, don't take this class unless you will show up consistently.
One of the most chill professors I know. Although his lectures are hilarious I didn't learn much from them and I hardly cracked open my book ( you could survive off of the power points). Really caring and understanding. I missed my final and he rounded my grade so i could pass the class but i emailed him and he allowed me to make it up.
Professor Uranga was awesome! His lectures were insightful. He offers extra credit and prepares students for exams. Participate and you will do well. I highly recommend this class.
Great Professor! Laid back, funny and keeps class interesting. Participation matters, if he knows who you are then you're on the right track. Concise and well organized. He gives you every thing to be successful in class. Study and you'll pass with an A. Highly recommend.
Prof. Uranga is one of the most amazing poly sci professors at PCC you will never be bored in his class. I needed to re take him again for poly sci because i didnt pass the first time due to personal reason. but the second time around this summer 16 he's still a great professor. Im glad i retook him again and cant wait to visit his classes for fun
He gets off topic, he is informative but not always about material that is on assignments or midterm/final. He often gets sidetracked (still on the topic of politics) but somehow will end up getting off track and explaining what Hillary Clinton was wearing in last night's debate. Do ask for clarification, he is nice and he offers extra credit.
The worst professor at PCC! He go off of the topics the test are wordy and tent to confuse you chanchin one word. There are 2 test midterm and one final 9 chapters each one, 6 pop quiz of 10 questions, and one research paper. The class lookeasy but he makes it very stressful. If you have more options avoid his class specially if you are an ESL stu
He gave 3 papers to do throughout the semester and meanwhile we do the 3 papers he gives a 20 page paper due at the end of the semester. Lectures were difficult to stay focused and he is a little crazy and very loud. Tests are difficult you can't bs you have to know what you're talking about. Doesn't give homework but not worth it
His class was the most interesting and engaging class ive ever taken, i would recommend students take this class his a really good professor i loved his class so much . i would so take him again he knows a lot about the subject he gets a little to excited but i love his class really interesting.
I HATE PoliSci, only took it because it's required. He makes it funny and interesting. Lectures are pure entertainment. Would pay to watch him do political stand up comedy. To get an A, you need to read & do the work; It's not rocket science people.
Took Professor Uranga's 8 week online course. Although i am not a Political Science major, I was interested in the content and put in effort for all of the assignments. I felt at times that he didn't want to help or wasn't really interested when i would email him for clarification but he was still helpful and clear on the assignments. I enjoyed it.
Fun guy, but class seriously lacks in content. Class is usually dismissed half an hour early (out of a 1.5 hour class), and students leave wondering if they learned anything. Lots of jokes and laughing, but little learning. Disappointing class for a student seriously aspiring to political science.
This professor was amazing . First of all his lectures did not put me to sleep!! He has pop quizzes online. All of them are easy. The Midterm and final are also easy. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, but he might only accept 3. I did not use a textbook at all. Also make sure to attend his class. It's an Easy A!!!
Uranga is absolutely hilarious, every lecture was entertaining and interesting . He is very knowledgable in what he does and respects your opinions. He gives you study guides for tests , even the Final, which basically give the answers, just study them. I never used the book and got an A. Warning: If you take his small classes he's not this easy
He's and entertaining prof There's lots of reading and pop quizs but the class isn't difficult you can easily get an A if u put in some effort.
Took him for online. Terrible communicator, downright doesn't respond to anyone emails or messages. Impossible to find outside of class. Grades weird and takes points off for random reasons and gives zero explanation. Unclear assignments. Seriously, there are better online professors. I'm sure he's great in person but online? No. Please don't.
Professor Uranga is an excellent professor, with a interesting methodology to his teachings. On this that should be noted is that while he may discuss things in the classroom, you will need to partake in the readings within the assigned book, as well as conduct your own research. A lot of short/long essay responses for both exams and homework.
His lectures are half content and half ranting about politics, but still show up to class because he rewards students who do. Honestly, just don't miss his class, actually try on his paper, and ***use his study guides***. You'll be fine.
For some reason he is incredibly inadequate when it comes to responding to his students through e-mail. I understand that as a student we can talk to him after class but when the class size is over 150 people and doesn't respond to emails, it is extremely unfortunate. Also for the syllabus, I would of expected more than listing assignments.
REGARDLESS OF WHAT HE SAYS, HE DOES NOT RESPOND BACK ON EMAILS. I HAVE SENT A FEW THE PAST WEEK AND HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. Same thing through the whole class. Communication with the professor is very poor and content lacks depth in content.
Absolutely fabulous! Uranga makes politics fun. I took his hybrid class which was mainly test based. He really spent lecture time just discussing current politics and covering some of the textbook. It is really important you read the textbook. He is lively and goofy. Don't expect regular, boring lecture from Uranga.
Uranga!!! Great guy, hilarious. Gives old tests as a study guide, and if you know the material on that plus his lectures, you'll be fine. Final for winter was 90% of his old final he gave as a study guide. In our class if you got an A in the final he would curve old term paper and old tests. Easy guy but you need to def study and come to class!
A pretty good professor overall, explained the political theories as well as our current state in the U.S. He is very knowledgeable in that regard. Just make sure to show up and listen to his lectures. He will go over the important stuff and when it comes to the exams, listen and study wisely. This class requires you to try, so at least do that.
I took this course online during spring semester. This was an 8 week course which benefited since finals for regular courses are in June. Overall, he has a clear grading read the chapters, do the quizzes online and submit assignments you'll be fine. Easy assignments and great professor.
Took Prof. Uranga because of his reviews from past students but was disappointed in the end. He's funny and VERY LOUD literally shouting. He rants about Trump a lot but I wish he would've taught me about the government instead of teaching me of the current administration and current events. Spr 17 was 1st year with his textbook and quizzes online.
URANGA WAS THE MAN!1! he was very helpful and caring fr his students IF you want to be helped no homework just a paper midterm and a final i love his personality he is very loud and obnoxious he curves test you pull with him and he pulls with you!
I took his online class last fall semester. By far the worst online class I've ever taken!!! Emailed him so many times and never responded once! His instructions were confusing. The Midterm and Final was ridiculously long! Don't take his online class!!
Amazing amazing amazing. If you need to take Political Science, then do yourself a favor and take Uranga! Goes on a lot of tangents during lectures but honestly his class was so much fun, and an easy grader. Free online textbook, rarely any homework
Make sure to attend his class everyday. In one of those days, he gives out extra credit and also gives you hints to pass his tests.
I do not recommend his online class. He is very disorganized and does not give clear instructions. Assignments and due dates are confusing. Assignments are not difficult and if you don't mind being confused about what to do and when it's due, then you'll be fine - otherwise, I emphasize: I don't not recommend his online class.
Uranga is absolutely hilarious. His tests are kind of hard if you don't study, but the study guides he gave we're pretty spot on. Oh and if for some reason you're still a Trump supporter, Uranga will convince you otherwise!
Uranga is hilarious & crazy. His lectures will not bore you. Tests are a bit of a challenge if you don't study. He provides study guides which either help or are identical. :) No homework but you do have a couple essays. He takes attendance through a sign-in sheet. He didn't respond to my emails but I was able to speak with him quickly after class.
He was great; super funny & interesting. The practice tests were pretty much identical to the real thing, so just memorize them, and you won't need a book. Sometimes he'll make all 50 questions one letter (a, a, a, a...). Practice the essays a few times before the test so you have them down. Not a hard class at all.
He's not a bore in class, he is super funny and very entertaining to listen to. Very passionate about political science, and he is not afraid to say what is on his mind. Do not take his class if you are easily offended or get butthurt often. He gives a lot of quizzes, in fact one almost every week for me. His questions are hard if you do not study.
The best political science professor at PCC! He does not give a lot of homework and provide clear study guide, which is really helpful for preparation for tests. He also gives a ton of extra credit, which means that even though you were poor at tests, there is still opportunities to curve those. Obviously, THE EASIEST A POL-SCI CLASS.
oddest teacher ever. If your'e focused on having a structured teacher, then don't take him. His lectures stray far from his tests. He uses quizlet and you are basically on your own. If you don't have the book, or have it and don't read it, it doesn't help. I'm not sure. but if you are a polisci nerd, then this class is easy peasy.
Uranga is a nice Professor. Hes very lecture heavy, talks fast, and its difficult to take notes. I recommend reading the text book for clear information because Uranga is a super nice and understanding professor but he rephrases situations so I cant understand what hes saying most the time.
I took Professor David Uranga online class for Fall 2017. Quizzes can be accessible through Mindtap, midterms and finals are online. Textbooks will be available through Mindtap.
My dudes, Uranga is a legend. Show up to class, sit in the front and make sure he knows who you are and you'll do great. The class is easy and he wants you to pass. You have a term paper, a few test and a bunch of easy multiple choice test. I took this class without taking PoliSci 001 and I was a bit worried but I passed easy peasy!
I am not sure if it just me or this is how he or his TA actually grade the quizzes and assignments. I usually get around 2.6 out of 3 or 2.3 out of 2.5. At first they just put in a regular 2.6/3 and my grade was at 93%. BUT this is how they put in your grade 2.60000000000001/3 and 2.300000000000001/2.5. My grade dropped from 93% to 68%. Seriously?
This is my second time taking Professor Uranga and I would take him again. He's very kind, funny, and super caring of his students. Just show that you have interest in his class, do the work, participate in the lectures and he'll pass you.
He is very funny and you will not get bored in his class, MC quizzes and exams online all from quizlet and we had 4 essays to write for the whole semester and a term paper ( you will have the prompt for essays in advance).EC
He is such a caring professor. He wants everyone to pass his class and he will do anything to make sure his students succeed. Professor Uranga is the best!
I took a 6 week pols 1 course. Essays and written assignments were arbitrarily graded and the schedule was confusing. You always have to be on watch for upcoming due dates. The multiple choice was easy and he is lenient in considering your situations for a grade. Make sure you read and understand the small details in the textbook.
His lectures were at first interesting but later they started becoming irrelevant and useless. His tests are sometimes take home essays and online multiple choice. Sometimes he would just spend days asking people on what their essay topic was rather than lecturing on the material. However, he provides an interesting character for politics.
Uranga; Ranter in Chief. Super caring, funny, & charismatic. Very generous and straightforward in terms of grading (term paper weighted somewhat heavily). He basically just wants you to show up, put in effort, and do the readings. The class was not taught the way I thought it to be, but that's just because our class size was very big. i love him!!!
In the 6 week course, I found that the readings were very time-consuming; nevertheless, the class was easy overall. Virtually everything is done through Mindtap (which is around $80) -- quizzes and accessing the textbook. Instructions given on Canvas can be confusing at times. Additionally, quizzes have unlimited tries until the due date.
I wouldnt take this professor again perse, but I did learn from his lectures and managed to pass his class.
Let me just say I enjoyed Professor Uranga. He was so enthusiastic, just the right amount for teaching politics. He's obviously passionate but class mainly became him talking to students about current events rather than teaching. I basically read on my own but I didn't care honestly. The class was engaging and that's all that mattered
I took Prof. Uranga for poli science online. He answers all emails sent to him very promptly. He is very caring and help
I don't recommend his online class. He does reply to emails, but in a sarcastic and picky way(at least to me).I had to write multiple essays/discussions and pay $80 for a useless textbook and apparently in-class is way easier. Also, the instructions are not really clear/updated and the grading system is weird.
Great professor who talks a lot but also makes the class very interesting! You will be taking a few tests/quizzes and write a few papers depending on the class but definitely not anything excessive. come to class, listen to the lectures and you should have no issues getting a good grade.
I actually attend Pierce College, and Prof. Uranga was filling in for a teacher on medical leave. It turned out really well! He explains the material really well and is very patient.
Ive taken 3 poli sci classes at Pasadena City College & Urangas class has been my favorite so far! Be prepared for writing! 1 big term paper due @ the end of the semester, at least 8 mini essays throughout the semester, & quizzes & exams are easy & online! He will help you, just show effort. Uranga is very understanding. (ALSO OFFERS XTRA CREDIT)
Easy MC quiz and MC test (can attempt many times). Easy in-class essay, just use your common sense and some real political knowledge. Physical class is easy but online class is lots of work, take the physical if you can. No hw, just reading if you need it.
He is amazing I would sit in his class just to hear him lecture even if I didnt have a class with him take political science with him, you will not regret it. I have never taken a class with a professor that demonstrates such care for his students
I took his online class and it is pretty straightforward. Sometimes directions for assignments are confusing. I would email questions to him and sometimes he doesn't answer them. I had to seek him on campus. I don't know if you could access the assignments on Mindtap if you don't buy the online book. Other than that, it's a good 8 week course.
Don't even take poli sci with any other professor. Uranga's the best! Super easy class. All the answers for his exams are online and he knows that. Lots of extra credit offered. He's really funny too, so class is never boring.
Uranga is a super knowledgable guy. He really loves to get the class engaged in what he is talking about, and apply it to real like political situations. This guy is a real political scientist! His assignments, midterm, and final prepare you for UC schools, as he has taught there before. I would not take if you arent a POLISCI major though. A+!!!
Prof. Uranga is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He went above and beyond to help me out, and his hilarious but honest lectures were always entertaining and informational. Highly recommend him if you are a political science major!
I guess he's using a new website Globalyceum for this course. A lot of readings. Quizzes are easy but midterm and final can be really HARD. It's a good thing that you have 3+ attempts. The most difficult part of the exam question is that you need to summarize the answer from the readings. It's not straightforward. The course itself it not easy.
I took the class online and it was extremely easy, but you have to remember to stay on top of due dates. Other than that the class is very simple there are various reading quizzes but are really easy and btw there is NO QUIZLET for his tests on quizzes in his online class it is all on a website called Globalyceum.
Professor Uranga is hilarious and fair, the book is free online, as long as you show up everyday, turn in homework and pass the test with open notes your good, easy A.
Great professor, took him for political science 2 and 6. The best easy grader, lots of extra credit. Hes super hilarious. Book is mandatory. A few essays no big deal.
Hands down the greatest Political Science Professor at PCC. If you are a Political Science major he will go above and beyond to help you succeed. There is a term paper, other essays, a few tests, and some pop quizzes, but he is a generous grader. If you have between an 87-89 at the end of the year he will give you an A. I recommend taking him!
Meh. Funny professor, to an extent, but I liked him more when he got a bit more serious about the topics he's covering. I wish he was more organized and detailed in his requirements. The lectures can be so boring, and a lot of it is just copy and paste from the text. I do thank him for helping me realize political science is not my thing.
Professor Uranga is absolutely hysterical and a top shelf teacher. I'm not even a Poli Science major, and I thought he was hilarious. If you show up and do the work, he's a breeze. He's very fair and fun. Best Poli Sci teacher @ PCC
Im failing at his online class. Lectures are kind of vague. Most of the lectures are not even in the quizzes. Definitely, do not take his online class.
I took his online class. OMG, I never saw such unorganized class page like his. In the modules, he did not put every assignment there; but in the grade session, there are some assignments which were mentioned in modules at all. The most weird thing is he put a lot of last years assignments which are not related to you at all . Do not take his class
Honestly, if you just need a class to take for a requirement this would be it. His online class was by far the easiest online class I've ever taken. Skimming through the readings and taking the tests is basically it.
I'm taking his online class right now. I suck at political science and I'm getting an A so far. Urangas really makes it easy for you to learn and understand the basics of political science. I love him. Literally.
This guy is very humorous, but dear. lord. he isn't a good teacher. 80% of the lectures he was just blabbing about how wealthy he is and ranting about politicians. The textbook is AWFUL, so dry it could suffocate a cactus, full of typos, and you have to read every little bit of it for tests or you won't pass. 50% of our class dropped in 1 week.
This online course is relatively easy. The course is divided into online quizzes, short activities, and 2 major exams. The quizzes and activities are pretty much easy, however, the 2 major exams are definitely really hard. However, prof gives you 3 attempts for quizzes and 2 attempts for exams. This class is a lot of reading!! So be prepared.
I'll be honest, he was quite intimidating the first 2 weeks, but all that changed afterwards. To earn a decent grade, you must be prepared - that is, you must read the textbook and be able to understand its content. If u do this, you will pass easily. There is a term paper due at the end of the semester 10-15 pg. Overall tho, Uranga was awesome! A+
Dude's course is disorganized and god awful. His grading scale doesn't make any sense because he never gives you full points on assignments. If you send him an email he would either not reply or be extremely condescending. You're better off taking another class instead.
Uses Globalyceum for all course material. Barely any assignments to do, but it can either make or break your grade. MAKE SURE you get all points possible on the tests and assignments to get an A (he basically gives you the answers if you just look for them!). No projects, barely any writing. Tests are true/false and multiple choice
Take his class if you need it for GE. So easy and he gives you the questions on the tests ahead of time. Doesn't give you full credit for assignments which is why you HAVE to do well on tests (answers are basically given to you!) One or two assignments due every week. The course has a lot of good material if you truly want to learn about polisci.
I love IR, but his class cemented that love for me. Extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He is hilarious and made the subject even more worthwhile. Make sure to read the book before tests, and be sure to know how to cite MLA. He is very caring and strives to get to know his students. His energy is unmatched. A must take for Poli students.
A bunch of three-point quizzes, 2 tests, and 4 discussion boards - that's it. So do good on them or you won't pass. His sense of humor is out there and tbh kind of annoying at times. Tests, quizzes, and readings on Globalyceum, which isn't updated and has old due dates on it. Would not take this class again, but it was easy enough. Hate politics.
I was blown away by his online course and how he structured it. It's tough but you will not be disappointed and you will learn a lot!!! Don't hesitate to dive in!!! It's challenging but as long as you put in the effort and truly think about what he wants you to communicate, you will do great!!! I bet his face to face course is even better!!!
Professor Uranga is passionate about teaching! He is hilarious and energetic. He truly wants his students to succeed and sees to it. During Covid-19, he still maintained his upbeat manner. The class was graded on 10 quizzes, 4 exams, and a term paper. Uranga will gladly help anyone in need (you have to ask). Overall, a great pick.
Do not take this class in an online setting. Whilst I started the semester in person, after four weeks it went online. He was a cool professor in person but the online format was not suited for him. He sometimes changed the class meeting times randomly and sometimes didn't show up at all. Lectures were not structured and grading changed randomly.
He uses Globalyceum for his class and includes reading, quizzes, midterm and final. Overall he really great teacher and will repeat any quizzes or test for better grade. During the sem on March 2020 third week we had to use zoom and see the lecture . Orignally was in person course, but he made it easy for transition. he humerus and enteraining.
Nice guy, horrible lecturer! Class was easy A. I am now at UCLA and UCLA comparative classes are nothing like Uranga's class. So if you want to learn something don't take him. Waste of money and time because all he talks about is how Trump and his supporters are dumb. Nothin relevant to the class and nothin that will benefit u in the future.
When I took Poli Sci 2 with Uranga, he spent most of the lecture going off tangents ranting about the news, which wasn't very helpful. You have to do your own reading and studying. Quizzes were open book. The final paper was long, but as long as you meet the page count, you'll be fine.
I took professor Uranga over the summer 2020 and it went by like a breeze. However you do have to purchase the online book were you also complete quizzes and mini assignments on. Overall he was great. He recorded his lessons on zoom and posted them on Canvas. Would take again! :)
Overall great professor! Highly recommend.
Took him two years ago, but I had returned to college after a 5 year hiatus and I enjoyed his class. I had an auditorium class, where he lectured and at the time there was an election, so he brought up current events in class. Exams were in essay format; you were choose between 3 prompts. He doesn't grade harshly, just need to have a decent paper.
Great lectures. The class was pretty easy.
Use Globalyceum, every exam comes with short essay but not hard to complete. Research Essays would require some work and make sure to follow his format or you will not pass. Hilarious prof, fun lectures. Clear on what he wants, so just follow through and you'll be fine. quizzes are word on word and can be found outside of textbook and lectures.
I enrolled in his summer class due to all the positive ratings. I would definitely not recommend it at all. I have taken winter and summer classes before so I had an idea of what to expect. He requires so much , hes a tough grader and its a ridiculous amount of reading and essay writing. Just tedious work. Online format is definitely not for him.
There are professorsand then there are mentors who go beyond the line in order to make sure you get the material and pass the class. Professor Uranga is such an educator. He will mentor you and do his part to make the material easy to understand and fun. Going to his online sessions (which he records and posts for those who cannot make it) is l
Professor Uranga gave a lot of time for assignments, essays were long, but the time for them is manageable. His lectures were, something, but I'm not sure how they related to the class. Honestly, there really isn't a point to take notes in his class, unless you want to be respectful. There wasn't a day where he didn't rant about Bernie Sanders.
Didn't attend lectures bcuz they were just him reading the online txtbk and stopping to go off on a rant about Trump/Biden and make weird jokes, so he didn't really teach. Uses Globalyceum, which you have to pay for ($40). Lots of time btwn quizzes and essays. 4 exams total, each with essays. I lost pts from the essays with no feedback on why.
There isn't a lot of work assigned, but he does have a few essays. The essays however require a lot of time and research. He's also very picky on how he grades your essays, so make sure you ask for a clear FORMAT, cuz he does not tell you how he wants it! He'll assign the essay and mark you for writing in the wrong format, so please ask!
Professor Uranga is a knowledgeable and passionate instructor. I took this class online but wished I had taken it in person as his lectures would be fun. The online text provides instruction on current issues. He is a fair grader and is always responsive and available. Do the reading and put thought and effort into your writing and you will be ok
Prof Uranga was by far the best Prof at PCC for me, loved his Pols 6 so I took his Pols 7 and did very well. He grades by projects that can be done alone or in a group of 3-4, he does this so work can be split up (hence it is super easy to get it done). Wants his students to pass and provides make-up and late acceptance on all work.
very eccentric professor who wants you to succeed. he makes class fun and engaging for everyone. he means well and if you talk to him outside class/at office hours hes more than happy to help you out and provide feedback. textbook is free and online. attendance is important for in class lectures. lots of writing but grading is not harsh. good luck
Uranga is an educational entertainer. His lectures are so engaging, you'll be pressed to be distracted by something else. Once a month the class gets pretty hectic, with a written test and brief due 2 days apart. On these weeks, I would normally write a total of 12-20 pages of essays. Every week besides test weeks are manageable, with .5-1hr of hw
Fair prof. Put in the effort and your grade will show.
Professor Uranga was not only a hilarious and entertaining lecturer, but a respected and knowledgeable teacher. As a political science student, I am grateful for how much it opened my eyes to how to think like a political scientist. The only issue is that he does not give much feedback on papers however, the papers are fairly easy and fun to write.
not the best professor
hard to not like the guy pretty fair grader he wont hand u an A but its not hard to get
For a class taken for credit, Uranga makes the course too research intensive. He assigns a few essays, not much but not easy. He's a very pick grader when it comes to essays and isn't communicative about how he likes essays to be written. You can try to send him an email but he's probably sending out his daily announcements about politics.
Professor Uranga is definitely a character, he keeps lectures engaging although does go on tangents at times. He's a very caring professor who wants his students to succeed. Textbook was online and had to pay monthly for it. Stay on top of your work and the class will be a breeze! Recommend for GE requirement.
I had a great time in Prof Uranga's Pols1 class! His lectures were mostly a performance mixed with rants and jokes about politicians, so you'll have to go to the textbook to see what material he went over. Assignments were mainly discussions and five paragraph essays. If you listen to his feedback, he'll give you a high grade.
I unfortunately dropped out of the class because of scheduling conflicts, but Prof Uranga is the most entertaining and funny professor I've ever met. Seems very caring and wished I could've stayed. Book is free and he has the whole class laughing at 7am. Very opinionated but valid facts. Don't be offended with his opinions.
Very unprofessional. I wasn't prepared for the short essay and told him honestly why. He proceeded to mock and humiliate me in front of the class and told me to drop and take another teacher. If you don't go along with his ego he'll target you. Boasts about his 30 years of teaching knowing he's untouchable. Rants and screams during his lectures.
This guy is crazy and I loved it. He is not for the sensitive kind. His lectures are very Robin Williams energy. Workload was average but if you just do the work and submit it (even late) you'll get an A. Also, this is Introduction to AMERICAN Government. Make sure you know that going into it.
Prof Uranga keeps his POL1 class entertaining and engaging. While opinionated, his lectures are packed with humor and valid facts. Using unstuckstudy ai alongside the free textbook helped me prepare well for the essays.
He's AWESOME! He does yell a lot at 10:30am, but he's passionate and energetic, which is definitely what you want to see in a teacher. Despite that, I promise he's very approachable. Don't be intimidated, he gives you so many chances to get an A in class. Textbooks are mandatory, BUT he provides a free version. Don't go buying a $50 one lol
He has an interesting personality which made it easy for me to pay attention to lectures. Grading is easy, and he only makes sure that you understand the textbook. It's an easy class, just don't expect a professional.
Steer clear of David if you are considering taking POLI SCI 001. I took his 5 week course and the amount of reading and essays assigned was ridiculous. Get ready to be very confused by his instructions. He is very unclear and does not respond to messages in a timely manner. He lacks pride and does not exert effort into his grading feedback.
Engaging lectures
Wish I didn't take him over 6 weeks of Winter so I could have him for 16 weeks in Spring! His lectures are boisterous and full of charisma. The content is great as it covers materials and current US politics. For the assignments, they were simple to follow but require reading the textbook so pretty standard. Would take again!
Very interesting and engaging class structure. Although the Professor is oddly sexist and racist without realizing it. But still an easy and productive class.
Professor Uranga definitely keeps you entertained, but he gets sidetracked really easily. The thing about his tangents, though, is that they're repetitive, so on the exams, I get confused as to what his opinion is and what's factual. He's really caring and super open to talk about his career and life in general. Uranga is a great guy.
I had a lot of fun. If you just go to class and pay attention you will be fine. I never even opened the book and got an A 🤫😜
Wow, what an interesting character. You know those zany professors you see in the movies? That's Prof. Uranga to a tee. His energy is electric, and very entertaining. Flexes his tenure, and boy will he lean on it. I guarantee that if you give him a chance, he will charm you. His takes on politics are interesting, and surprisingly nuanced. Read lots
Such a good professor, he is hilarious (a bit loud), but his class was super engaging and the material was understandable. Teaches based off of current political events as well, and this class is definitely an easy A as long as you actually show that you can elaborate on ideas and concepts taught during this class.
You get no homework but all he does is start the meeting and just play videos all class. He teaches more his opinion than actual information I personally lean conservative and all he does all class is complain about America, the military and everything that happens here. Just irritating and repetitive
Hes a great guy! Very loud and theatric! Definitley leans liberal more moderate though. He accepts late work as long as you communicate. Assignments are mainly essays and multiple part short ansewer questions.
Very well-structured and clearly guided course. The professor is energetic, witty, and sharp, and uses current events to keep the class engaging. Always responds to emails quickly and is genuinely supportive of students.
