I hated this guy soooo much! He's just there to get a paycheck. He sleeps during your speeches and doesn't teach at all. He confessed to the class that he uses a "socialistic" grading scale. (everyone gets the same grade)! It's a huge waste of t

This guy doesn't teach for****! He pretty much just gives you busy work. The speeches are all extremely easy, and unless you're a complete idiot you'll walk away from every speech with an A or a B. The class has no structure whatsoever. Forget your pens and pencils kids, bring the flip flops and pajama's. Welcome to day care. I'd highly recommend taking this guy if you don't want to really do any work..
If Nepolian Dynomite and Ben Stein (the clear eyes guy) had a love child it would be him. He says to "speak up" when you present your speech but when he lecturing HE mumbles. if you actually want to go into public speaking i suggest you take someone elses class.
Oh my gosh......this man is crazy!!!! I have never had a professor who is so stupid. This man tells the students to PROJECT their voice when presenting, but when he talks the students are strening our eardrums to hear and understand what he is saying. And oh..... his grading scale, he has no grading scale. We give him "A" work and we get "B" grades
I can not stand this guy.He gives u the same grade as every1 else,even if ur speech was 20 times better. The absolute worst professor I've ever had in Miami Dade. He believes that his class is the most important, yet it is so stupid and pointless. The reviews are TRUE: he only gives B's even if you have an amazing speech!! He's just horrible!! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!

Volz is HORRIBLE. There is NO point in going to class if there isn't anything due. It's ridiculous. You can get a standing ovation by the class on every speech and still get a B in the class. He doesn't give real constructive criticism. I haven't learned anything about public speaking principles. Please, for your sake, take it with someone better!
This is the worst professor that there has ever been in the history of Miami-Dade...well, at least while I've been there...Not only is he extremely boring, but he gives the entire class the same grade. I've been getting As and Bs and even though I have more As than Bs in that class, at the end of the semester I will walk out with an 89%. This guy gives EVERYONE the same grade. I can say my speech without any readin & awesome voice pitch & and I will get a 92 compared to the guy next to me who read str8 from his paper and got an 86.
Let me start by saying that he "teaches" a SPEECH class, so he should speak clearly. He doesn't teach. He doesn't pay attention to your speeches. Always has the same critic no matter if your speech was the best of the class..."A little more details and examples, please". Not professional. He pays more attention to your attendance than the class.

Another professor with a lose screw. However, he is one of those professor's that will continue to give you B if you got a B on the first assignment. He's rude and talks down to his students. Not a good idea to take him. He has no interest in how well you do in his class.

Professor Voltz is a great professor and has a very understandable way of explaining the assignments and the important reasons for speech. I took his class on Saturday mornings at 8a.m. for the spring and he was great. I got an A in the class. He lets you know areas of improvement when presenting your speech which speaks for itself. Take him!
Yes hes monotone, but who cares when his class is the simplest class i have ever taken in my life. Its an easy A for sure if you do your 4 speeches and your midterm. After that your set, he really cares about his class. Hes easy didnt even need to buy a book. If required take him hes really simple.
I TOOK PROFESSOR VOLTZ FOR SPC1026 WHICH WAS BEFORE IT WAS CHANGED TO SPC1017. HE IS A GREAT PROFESSOR AND THE STRUCTURE OF HIS CLASS IS GREAT. Professor Voltz seems to always be unprepared for class. I don't know what discussing the current job crisis has to do with us actually improving our public speaking skills. The only time I ever felt this class would help with that was the first day when he showed a video about PS. Other than that, he talks about unrelevant things.

SUPERRRR EASY! Don't expect to get more OR less than a B in your Speeches. You can read from your paper, he doesn't really care, just make a nice outline. The midterm will only include the last 10 questions after each chapter in the book (only reason why you need to buy the book) For the process speech bring cookies and you'll get an A. Seriously.

The way Professor Volz speaks reminds me of the "Clear Eyes Guy" which is kind of ironic since he is teaching us how to give speeches. The speeches he gave were boring & inconsistent. To get an A just speak clearly, make eye contact with the class & have a good outline with references. Attend every class on time so it does not effect your grade.
Bothe the class and the professor are a joke. you dont have anything to do. just download an essay from internet, make look as anoutline he would like and read clearly. that will get u to a B. NOTE: if you do a big effort u will get a B, if you dont go to class and just do what i just said, you will get a B as well.

Very monotone and a tough grader. Honestly, don't go all out with your speeches because no matter what you do to impress him, he will always give you a lower grade than what you deserve. Your final grade is determined by your final essay and he deducts points based on assignments you've missed. He has weird humor which is funny if you're into that.

Professor Volz does not grade fairly, be weary of this. This class is easy, but only because said professor arbitrarily grades his five assigned speeches, 20 question midterm, and final expository essay between 83% and 94% out of 100%. You can turn in a random outline found online and expect the same grade as someone who worked for days on end.
He likes to mumble when explaining assignments. All he gives is outlines. 45% of his grades will come from references. There's 5 presentations, a midterm that consists of vocabulary, and a final essay talking about influential speakers. He's an easy grader. I would recommend him. Only uses the textbook for midterm vocabulary.

He changes his mind about the final grades. You can barely understand him. And he's a speech teacher? C'mon. It doesn't make sense, because he's the one judging you on your presentation. He also repeats himself a lot, it's unnecessary.

Prof. Volz is just an okay professor. If you keep asking him questions to improve your speech and actually try you can easily get an A or a B. Make sure to not skip any assignments either! This class is more reading off an outline and peppering in some remarks on the fly rather than a speech. The class overall was pretty easy to me.

This class is extremely easy. He only assigns six speeches throughout the entire semester. Very easy topics. He is monotone and rather dull. The book is not necessary nor is attendance. It is difficult to receive an A. However I have gotten a 91 on all on my speeches. His class is an easy GPA booster but don't expect to learn much at all.

Easiest class I have taken. Six speeches, 2 group projects. All you have to do is make a clear outline and use lots of sources. You don't even need to memorize you can read your paper from hand. Don't get upset if you don't get higher than an 93 on your last paper. It will eventually average out to an A. If this is not you major... ITS A MUST.
Professor Volz was very conversational and cooperative with the students' opinions, but I don't like how tough of a grader he is. If you don't do all your assignments, you will not be guaranteed an A. It's an easy class, just make sure you use more than ten references in each speech and present enthusiastically in order to get a good grade.
All you have to do to pass is do his powerpoint projects(group). 3 of them are in group. and 2 are by yourself. EASIEST class ever. All you do is sit there and listen to your classmates talk. THIS CLASS IS FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT MAJORING IN COMMUNICATION. Have fun.

The class is pretty chill. Each class, there are mini presentations, just standing up from your seat. You get to choose out of 3 topics and it can be really quick, usually a few seconds long. Though the class is kinda boring and the professor is monotone. 2 group presentations and 4 individual presentations. It is really hard to get above a 95 tho.
This was the easiest class Ive ever took, all the other reviews are bad. you got two group speeches and 4 individual speeches. One of the easiest classes i ever took. For real there is almost no way not to pass this class. Just do all the papers, literally just read everything from your paper and you good. He doesnt look like he even cares, he gives all the time just 85% or 90% nothing else.
Easiest class you'll ever take. Although, you'll never get a 100, settle for 90s on the assignments. Only way to fail his class is to skip his assignments and not do them. Just read off the paper on the presentations. There's a mixture of group and solo presentations. You don't have to be a good writer to get a good grade on the speeches.
This professor is just impossible to understand, it almost sounds like he gets only 4 hours of sleep and could care less about his job & students. The main part of his class is just creating outlines and presenting them, he does have a tougher kind of grading when he is reading those papers. You have to present, and I took his class online. He doesn't really know too much about technology and he has a very monotone voice. But overall, it's an easy class to pass.
Only 6 assignments, they are all outlines of your speeches that you present. It is easy, he is just extremely unorganized, does not respond to emails. People just read off their papers or laptop, some don't even turn on their camera, he's clueless and does not care. No matter the effort and how stellar your paper is he will always give a low grade.
Okay class. I am not sure how he grades but no matter what, no one was able to get above a 92 on any paper. If you want an A, you will have to put a bit more effort in, but, if you are fine with a B; then this class is not much effort. You have to write 5 outlines for essays which you present in class and one final essay. That's all he grades on.

He is a good person and i do believe he attempts to teach our class, but not about communicating. He encourages us to do good in life and not to care about what others think. Also, he grades everyone almost the same. Try or don't try you'll pass. The class is basically a completion grade. He gives 5 speeches and an essay. You can read of the paper.

Professor Volz's class is not as bad as the rating suggests. He tells you from the beginning the topics and dates for the speeches you'll need to deliver. He gives you a good grade as long as you have around 15 sources. He's funny and allows you to chill as long as you don't interrupt someone else giving a speech.
Though he was not a terrible professor, the grading criteria made it nearly impossible to earn about a 90% on an assignments. Though participating in class discussions doesnt matter to your grade, I suggest being more interactive because if he favors you he will give you better grades.

This class is a guaranteed high B. its true that its difficult to get an A but i promise youre not failing. theres no hw and only 6 assignments. in the syllabus he says he takes points off for not going to class(thts not true) he's nice but hard to email.

Getting a high score is hard because you have no idea what he's looking for, except for a vague little paragraph in the syllabus. not tech savvy at all. literally just emails you the syllabus and that's the only thing you have for the course. just talks a lot.

Professional yapper, but never talks about what his class is about, speech. He goes from talking about the babies his students will have to playing videos about anti-gravity UFOs. He clearly does not give AF about his class and somehow repeats the same voice lines in different classes. The scores he gives out are arbitrary and he def favors girls.

The easiest in-person class you'll ever take. You go in, read an essay, and leave. 6 essays the whole semester and all he wants is for you to read it to the class. He'll ramble from time to time but the class is only 50 minutes anyways. You give the paper to him to read and you get it back, NO TURN-IT-IN so yk what that means. Super easy.

I'll try to keep it simple and short. Gave all the girls in the class A's and all the guys in the class B's, even if the guys did a better job and showed up to most classes. I know a guy who guy who got 5 88% out of the 6 assignments. A girl who rarely showed up did a speech about why dogs are better than cats and ended with an A in the class.
This professor was terrible all he does is play a 20 minute video about whatever topic he wants then has use do presentations. He also only gives the guys 88% and all the girls 93% no matter how good there presentations are. Furthermore he also has the grade in his grade book before we even do the presentations.
Easy A class with a laid-back professor. Just follow the outline and you're guaranteed a good grade. unstuck study was a lifesaver for speech prep - highly recommend!
I don't know how this professor isn't fired. He made very inappropriate comments to underage girls about how they can give birth once they're 18, he yelled a lot, AND he roasted some ppl's outfits on the first day. He doesnt teach anything, u can just ai generate ur speech and read it off the paper to get a 90 (he doesnt give anything higher)
Total waste of time. We watched CNN all day every class and was graded off 6 speeches in which it was impossible to get any higher than a 94. He never actually listens to your speech and you can tell because he starts asking questions that are unrelated to your topic. Easy A if you do the speeches but he rage baits
Legit sat in his class for 6 weeks didn't learn a thing. He didn't teach us anything on presenting and just said put more enthusiasm in speeches. If you want a free class would recommend but if you want to learn wouldn't recommend. He is a pretty funny dude and the work is overall easy saw people cheat with AI in class.
Super easy class, and he's so funny. He's not a tough grader at all; just do what he wants, and it's an easy A. No heavy tests and loves talking to his students about anything. super open-minded. Easy A for sure.
Professor Volz just dont care about his class. If you do the 6 speeches, you're fine you are going to pass with an A or B. His grading is random, so GOOD LUCK!!! But if you just ganna chill, take him
Overall such an easy class, he is very nice and tries to inspire his students and encourage them to speak even when nervous. his class overall has made me less nervous of public speaking and has improved my writing and communication skills. he is very misunderstood. I would 100% take his class again he's very funny and interactive with the class
