Great teacher! great learning experience!
Dr. Weber is a great professor. Very helpful, even for stuff not related to his classes. Ask, and you will get the best possible answer.
Excellent instructor. High standards and helpful study guides give students an opportunity to grasp the material for practical application in the work world.
I adore this man! The class activities ROCK! Totally there for his students, absolutely LOVES teaching. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS, he'll tell you EXACTLY what he expects. His lecture tangents are wonderful, and he can tie ANYthing into Comm. Inspiring & wise.
He is amazing. He will look over assignments and proof read them before you turn them in. RCE's are a breeze if you read. Best teacher at UNCW!
Majority of his lectures have nothing to do with the reading for that day. After about 1/2 the semester there is no reason to go to class anymore because he stops teaching. He does give you exactly what you need to do for the class, but he is just a very odd lecturer. I didn't really like him.
Dr. Weber is awesome! The most brilliant prof at UNCW! Always helpful and available for his students! You can tell he really loves his job. I'd recommend any of his classes. :)
I heart Dr.Weber! So enlightening, and responsive to his students. Best prof in the com dept. Wish I had time to take all his courses!
My absolute favorite professor during my 4 years at UNCW
Worst professor at UNCW. Avoid him for COM 490 at ALL costs!
One of m fav professors ever. He is too smart for his own good but does not expect his students to be on his level. He is funny, worldly, tells great stories, and wants you to do well. Very understanding. Just a great, genuine man with a heart of gold! Get to know him outside of the classroom -- he is awesome!
Weber loves teaching! He is very worldly and an intellect. He wants to share everything he knows with students. Happy to help you any time. We need more professors like this guy!
Weber is T-H-E MAN! Expects you to be serious about the communications major and college, and he brings out YOUR best. Will say 'I am not a funny guy', but actually, he has GREAT s.o.h. Total professional in style, attitude. Respects students.
Says he truly cares about his discipline, which he does. Just doesn't care about his students.
He isn't a very good teacher at all. A nice guy and very funny, but he is very unclear. Also, his questions are so "fluffed" up to sound intellectual, that they become confusing. Simplicity is NOT his style.
He's ok. VERY passionate about communication studies, but the tests were a little hard for an intro level class I'm sure that's to weed out the people who aren't serious about majoring in communication, but still. And there are lot's of other grades besides the tests (daily attendance, 3 hw assignments, and 4 short papers)
Cares about his subject, and that's about it. Seems a little self-absorbed and the tests aren't too bad if you understand the basic principles of COM. All tests are cumulative. There are 4 page-and-a-half papers, not too bad but a little difficult to write because of all the requirements..
Dr. Weber rocks! Ties in communication to other school subjects, jobs, family, relationships, movies, t.v., and more. Makes communication REAL. His tests vary, some are hard others are easier. Takes teaching, communication and college very seriously, and sees through any student b.s. Really good study guides for text and tests.
This Guy ROCKS! He is such a nice person to talk to and he has sooooo much experience and background! He really knows what he is talking about. Outside of the classroom he is THE MAN to seek for advice or just to chat. Funny dude (in his own special way) and always lectures with lots of supporting material, images and slides (available on BB).
Unfortunately this class is a necessary evil. He is a horrible professor, extremely anal and even cried on the first day of classes. Exams are hard, so begin studying at least the week before. COME TO CLASS! and suck it up because he is the only one who teaches this class.
Dr. Weber is an awesome professor! I've had him for COM 105 and COM 272. He is always willing to help you outside of his class, and is always willing to listen. I highly recommend him for any classes you can take with him at UNCW. He has years of experience working in the field, so he is very knowledgeable about the topics he teaches.
Tests aren't too hard but he is self absorbed and insanely anal about papers. He will take off if your paper is wrinkled or the ink isn't black enough. The class is required though so suck it up and just get through it.
Very good course, very good prof. GREAT lectures! His tests r fun b/c he puts movie scripts and funny stories in them to analyze. He love comm studies and make you love it too. Always availabl for coaching and feedback. DEFINITELY recomend Weber, will take more courses from him.
Love him! Amazingly helpful. Will coach you one on one for writing assignmt before it's due. Weber is the real deal - highly qualified and professional, with real-world background and high energy. Pretty good sense of hmr. Great speaker too. Book smart and street smart.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. He is horrible. He takes FOREVER to get his point across and he spends more time trying to confuse you on the tests instead of testing your knowledge on the subject. He is extremely anal about everything and has horrible handwriting when he returns your work so the feedback he gives is pretty much useless.
Outstanding in every way. I am a military veteran and wish I had learned some of the basics Weber teaches. Tests are challenging bcz they require application not regurg. of what you learn, but solid review from his GREAT study guides handles that! Weber asks for listens to stdt feedback, and has every students' back.
Use the study guides and re read all of his directions and suggestions. You will know exactly what he expects. He is strict because he has to be. He has real world experience/passionate about what he teaches. Great intro class because if you canâ??t respect Weberâ??s passion, you donâ??t have enough passion yourself to make it in the field.
Take 105! Ive never had a teacher set students up for success like Weber does. First day, he says, "Usually about 2/3 to 3/4 of you will get a B or better, and I WANT you to!" He is GREAT to talk with in his office...will coach you in your writing assignments and preparing for exams. Very kind and smart.
Weber tries to make you feel like he wants you to succeed, he doesn't. I've taken 105 two times now. I made .5 points away from the B and wasn't able to move on. Making the B in the class is the most important thing yet he NEVER gets your grades back to you. Weber talks above his students and does not treat the course as it is an intro level class.
Just avoid if possible, not worth the suffering. His class will definitely weed out those who are not interested in COM studies, and unfortunately you probably won't be able to avoid him. Don't expect to be pleased with this class, just saying.
Dr. Weber has a passion for communication studies and teaching it. He is very clear about what he expects from you, and he gives really thorough study guides for the exams. The tests are not a breeze, so definitely study and read the guides he gives you. Overall, a great professor for a gateway course!
He will most likely get on your nerves for the first couple of weeks. He grows on you though. He cares about everyone and keeps the energy level in the class up. You won't fall asleep in his class. As long as you pay attention in class, his test are not bad.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER.TAKE HIM HE WILL WEED OUT THOSE WHO DON'T CARE ABOUT COMMUNICATION STUDIES. ITS NOT COMMUNICATIONS WITH AN S.
Dr. Weber gives a lot of information during every class but does e-mail you the powerpoints from each class. Attendance is mandatory because it is big part of grade 18.2. Tests are not a breeze, study everything on study guide they are helpful. Very organized class too.
COM 105 is extremely easy. I never even bought the book--just pay attention in class. Also, don't show up late and DON'T leave in the middle of class, he'll chase you out. He's a little weird and quirky, but he loves communication and you'll learn to respect him for that. Make sure you bring your clicker to class always.
At first I wasn't sure about Dr. Weber, but he definitely grew on me. He is a really nice guy, especially if you go talk to him in his office (which I would recommend). He gets your test grades back to you the same day, and your final exam is during the last day of class. He's very willing to help his students one on one outside of the classroom.
Dr. Weber is a great teacher! Be sure you ALWAYS bring your clicker to class and hope that yours doesn't mess up! Mine did a few times and I lost some participation points. Study what he gives you on the study guides and you should do well! He enjoys his job, it's great seeing someone so passionate about the subject they teach!
Dr. Weber is a kindhearted man with a passion for what he teaches. On the first day of class he tried to explain why another comment on this site says he cried on the first day of their class, and he teared up again. Follow his formats, be respectful, and you'll do fine.
ALWAYS go to class. He said at the beginning of the semester "you can miss 4-5 absences without penalty." What he MEANT is that you can only miss 4-5 (maybe 6) classes and still get a B. Other than that, he's a really helpful professor who cares (maybe a little too much?) Tests are pretty easy if you study for them. Good professor, good guy.
I found Dr. Weber to be extremely condescending. His class was not very difficult if you took notes, studied, and came to class. I would not recommend taking his class unless you are definitely going to major in Communication Studies. He was very rude and believed himself smarter than all of his students.
I've taken two classes with him so far. I wish I could take more, but he is teaching in the UK next semester (Spring 2014). He is totally different in 300 levels than in 105. In 105 he's tough, but in upper levels he's wonderful. Not a lot of work at all after 105. Just come to class ready to discuss. Get to know him!
Ok, take him with a grain of salt. He comes off wrong in a class as large as 105, but he's a really nice guy and cares A LOT about the success of COM students. You have to attend class and take notes, then study and the tests are easy. Don't take his sense of humor personal, he tries really hard to make students like him but doesn't need to.
Nice guy who really knows the material but... gets extremely passionate about subjects and often weeps for a moment. That can be awk but you get used to it. Never had a professor quite like him. Extremely helpful if you need to meet with him but is usually late to class and returning work. Overall good professor
The class is not extremely hard if you study a little right before class. However, he speaks down to everyone. While he may have had the story about being rude to the homeless person and that experience changing him into a more humble person, it did not. I understand that its not required for him to treat us as equals, respect as a human is nice.
Dr. Weber is a good man at heart, however, he does a little too much. He likes to hear himself talk and tries to be funny but only sometimes succeeds. His classes would only be half as long if he didn't ramble on about his life experiences. Sometimes they're interesting to hear, but hearing about them every class becomes tiring.
He gives little to no help. Have a question? You better look at the syllabus because that's the only help he'll give you.
Weber is awsome in many ways. Totally there for his students; will help you if you see him in office plus is fun to talk with. He worked around world before becming profesor. Do NOT txt in class, he will throw you out. Very friendly, knows names of stdts in 150+ size class. Cant wait to take him for other classes.
The trend I see in all of these poor ratings are in reality not Weber's fault, but simply students venting because they failed to participate and give effort in this class. Weber teaches 105 in a way that challenges students to succeed, but is in no way unfair. Take this class, put forth effort, get an A. Weber is a great professor!!!
The other day he said "I will never give up on you, even after you have given up on yourself" & he almost made me cry. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it. I never went to his office & got to know him, but I wish I did now. He is a great professor who truly cares about us & wants to inspire us. He will make you care more about life & comm.
Great teacher, tough but he lets you know this at the beginning of the course. He's a great lecture teacher with interesting stories to help you understand Communication better and prepare you for the major. Do the work and go to class. He's also a helpful teacher, so don't be afraid to ask him if you are stuck. Would definitely take again
Dr. Weber is a phenomenal man and a great professor. Yes, it's true, his tests are very tricky and you do have to work for an A in his class, but he is very clear on the grading criteria. He is passionate about Communication studies and will do everything in his power to get students pumped up about being in the major. Would take him again!
Weber is a great guy and great teacher. I broke my ankle during the semester, and he was extremely understanding (greatly appreciated) and I still passed with a B. Attendance is key. Tests aren't too difficult, but you do have to study. He WANTS you to succeed as a COM major! He is very knowledgeable about the COM field. I definitely recommend him!
Tests are cumulative, but just for basic things you should know. If you study and pay attention your fine. Good luck paying attention though! He is so long winded and takes forever to get to the point that I would loose focus mid lecture then there was no hope. Making a B is extremely important, but he doesn't put grades on BB which is annoying!
Dr. Weber is so passionate about what he does and teaches that it is inspiring. If you take his class and don't go meet with him during office hours you are truly missing out on the class. He is the type of guy that is cut and dry when it comes to rules but would bend over backwards to help you be a successful student.
Great teacher! He's very passionate about what he does and if you're a COM major, you'll love the class. Tests are cumulative but it's nice to know everything. He makes great study guides.
Oh Webie. He's the most passionate teacher I have ever had. It can be a little overbearing at times but its nice to know he isnt just collecting a pay check. You have a detailed study guide on every test, if you get a B its because you didnt even look at the study guide. Would take him again
I have never had a teacher care as much as him. He will learn all 160+ of his students by name and will make this large class feel comfortable. He is so encouraging and truly one of the best teachers I have ever had. Go to his office he is so nice and is willing to help you with anything! Whether it be guidance or questions regarding COM!
There is no doubt that Dr. Weber cares about his students. He does everything in his power to make sure COM 105 students have a strong foundation going in to the major. He sometimes comes across as too passionate and a little picky, but it's all because he loves what he does. Gives crystal clear study guides and a lot of points come from clickers.
Dr. Weber is very passionate about Communication Studies and it shows through his lectures. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed with anything you do. I would take a class under him again.
Dr. Weber is an amazing professor. His lectures make it clear that he is passionate about Communication Studies. He is always there for his students and gives amazing feedback. His study guides are extremely helpful. There are attendance and participation points almost every class.
Dr. Weber is an amazing teacher!! However, as a political science major I did not have the excitement that you need for this class. Very boring lectures, especially since he puts all the slides online and very boring guest speakers. Also, you HAVE to attend class because he does daily clicker participation/attendance points. You cannot skip!!!
Dr. Weber is okay. That's as good as I can describe it. He really knows what he's talking about and you can tell he wants the class to feel the same enthusiasm as he does, but it comes across as very nit-picky and a bit rude. Also you have to memorize everything because there are word for word questions on the tests.
Dr. Weber is by far the best Com Professor I have ever had. Although his tests are not easy if you don't study, he truly wants each and every one of his students to succeed. I went into his office one day for career advice, and I have never felt so cared for and respected. He gave amazing feedback. Do the work, out in effort, get a great grade.
Weber loves to hear himself talk! Seemingly nice dude and he cares a lot about the topic but he speaks just for the sake of having his voice rattle through the classroom.
This has been my best class this semester because Dr. Weber knows what he is talking about when it comes to Communication Studies. We have 150-180 students in our class and he has addressed me personally several different times. It is refreshing to have a professor that appears to truly care about my success.
WEBER MAKES YOU WORK FOR YOUR GRADE, BUT THE MATERIAL ISN'T VERY DIFFICULT. HE MAKES STUDY GUIDES FOR EVERY TEST, SO YOU SHOULDN'T DO POORLY ON THEM. HE'S VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT COMMUNICATION STUDIES. HE'S KIND OF HARSH SOMETIMES AND HIS LECTURES CAN GET BORING, BUT HE USUALLY LET'S THE CLASS LEAVE ABOUT 10 MINUTES EARLY.
Loved his class. Take notes and think outside the box in terms of application and you'll do great
Great guy, great professor, really does care about the success of all his students. Sometimes when he comes to class he wears a hat that makes him look like the professor from Jurassic Park.
Didn't like him at first but I've grown to really, really love this guy. Of the 20 profs I've had so far, he's my #3. He really cares about his students and will learn all of their names (in a class of 200+) and he's really passionate about COM. You really have to work for your grade though; if you don't study, you'll do horribly.
This guy is boring to listen to. He goes on and on about nothing... It's a fairly easy class still. Do the study guide and there's no reason for you to make worse than a B. He's a real smoke show though. Hottest professor I've ever met. Major heart eyes for this hunk!
Dr Weber shows time and time again that he cares about his students. He is unconventional, and will sometimes leave students with questions when leaving his class... but he cares. He wants his students to do well, he offers extra credit, study guides, and each test is cumulative. As a non-com major he even suggested some future classes to help me.
David Weber gives inspirational/motivational lectures and is interesting and funny. He encourages participation by students, and provides ample time for feedback and questions. He covers a great deal of material, but he also provides study guides for his exams along with extra credit oppotunities. He's a great guy, but does not pull any punches.
You can tell Dr. Weber really enjoys doing what he does. He's a good lecturer (though the course material itself is somewhat bland) and cares about his students. He makes a point to learn everyones name even in a huge class, which is pretty impressive. Also has lots of extra credit opportunities and is always willing to meet up and give feedback
Dr. Weber is inspirational, funny and a great teacher. He does not control the material we have to learn (maybe expect for Weber's five unbreakable rules for public speaking) so don't complain if the information is dry. He tries his best to make it fun for everyone. Its a mandatory class so make the best of it. You got this.
Really funny, makes the class more enjoyable
Dr. Weber is a great professor. He makes the material very interesting and his lectures are entertaining. He provides study guides for tests and tests are usually easy. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and shows why it is important. Enjoyed this class and recommend it!
amazing prof, fantastic guy, will walk thru fire to help you do well, totally beleves effective communication will change the world, and gets you beleving it. won't allow use of tech devices in class - deal wit it. always dresses dapper (ok - random, i know). tests ok - avg grade in class always B- or B ... his STUDY GUIDES are awesome.
Dr. Weber, while an impressive lecturer and very passionate about his expertise, the couple of times I went to him about certain things, he just seemed a bit rude and arrogant. This class was just a difficult one for me to follow and he really just wasnt my favorite, however, it isnt too difficult work wise and there are good conversations.
He is awesome! Go to his office hours! He really wants you to work hard, but he also really cares for his students.
Memorable Professor. I had the pleasure of having Dr. Weber as a professor. Attendance is mandatory and should be, he always made each class contain humor, truly is passionate about his students success and I looked forward to his classes.
Not the best... His teaching style was kind of boring and he took forever to get through topics. His PowerPoints were so plain and the information was confusing. His blackboard page was also so disorganized that I had a hard time just finding the syllabus. I dont think he really gets how to engage his students in his lectures.
fell asleep in every lecture. but show up to as many classes as possible & and use the study guides he provides and you'll pass fine. dont even need the textbook
Sooo Dr Weber grew on me. His lectures can be a bit drab. He is very intelligent no doubt, but direction? You MUST attend class. No ifs, and's or buts about it. He memorizes faces, does sign in sheets- if clickers do no work. Show up! Notes are only handwritten - no screens of any kind (they are banned). Ask questions-participate, trust.
Didn't like him at all. Ended up dropping out of his class because it was so boring and I had no idea what he was talking about or how it related to Communications. Just reads from PowerPoints the whole time.
Amazing professor. His stories make what he teaches clear. VISIT HIM IN HIS OFFICE TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHING. Weber LOVES comm studies, sometimes in a crazy way, but always FUN about it, and really cares about students success. Good study guides for tests.
Dr. Weber is a very respectable person, and can be a great professor depending on what you like. He is very passionate and knowledgable about the content. However, his lectures are boring. There are 4 tests, which (along with clicker attendance) makes up almost all of the grades. Study guides provided so it is not very difficult to get an A.
His Class can be easy if you put in the time to fill out his study guides and study them. Very lecture heavy and attendance is mandatory. Often reminded me of a HS class, because he calls students out and can come across as very arrogant/rude to those who maybe don't like to participate. Lots of classroom rules (no laptops or phones) soo yea.
David Weber is a great professor. He gives you study guides for each test and if you do them you will do good on the test. He gives a group project and gives lots of extra credit opportunities. If you do not pay attention you WILL NOT pass. What he teaches, you will need to know for the rest of your COM career so make sure to pay attention.
Dr. Weber is such a caring teacher and really wants his students to pass. He explains topics so clearly. His assignments are always extremely easy to understand as he offers documents explaining exactly how you should complete them. Gives study guides that are very helpful. Take out time to do the readings and you'll get an A.
The class really isnt hard but you have to show up. I will say though, as an academic advisor hes very rude and condescending. Hes like that in class too though
Weber is quite honestly the worst professor I have had in a long time. His lectures are boring and you have to go... He is rude and looks down at students. Loves to drone on and on about nothing to do with communication studies.
Weber's class is really going to be a hit or a miss. The work load is simple, his tests are not hard at all (quizlet the study guides!), mandatory attendance. He does send quite confusing emails at time, but I had my doubts going into the class about him but I throughly enjoyed him. Go to office hours, he's very cool to talk to, one on one!
Dr Weber is great! At the beginning of the class, I did struggle some. He assigns several assignments including group projects, papers, and other things but his exams are what got me on the first one. He gives TONS of extra credit assignments to boost up your grade and he is a great guy! Exams are tricky, I should have made an A, but got a B.
Great professor. HILARIOUS GUY.. Gives ATON of extra credit. If you miss days, you will not pass though. He makes you use clickers, that is why I got a B in the class. However, it is fairly easy. He is a good professor and truly cares for other students. Also, he is EXCELLENT at emailing students back. wish all com professors were like him...
Very inspiring. One of the best professors. Sit in the front rows!
Whatever you do, DON'T buy the textbook, you will not use it. Overall, solid professor, just a little boring with his lectures. Take notes and you'll pass.
Professor Weber seemed caught off guard by the online format which resulted in a lecture heavy class. The class was graded on 4 exams and 1 COMMENTARY assignment. He also gives out extra credit for you to bump up your grade. He can be a bit rude when giving feedback on assignments.
He was okay, but he was VERY RUDE giving feedback on assignments! It is his job to TEACH and tell us how to improve, not just criticize and complain about it. He also was pretty rude replying to an email asking nicely and curiously about an assignment HE dropped that made several students overall grades drop.
Only had 4 exams and one commentary assignment due to covid. You mess up once? Youre toast. Also very rude in his interactions over email and comes across condescending.
Weber's class is kind of boring, but it is mandatory for communication majors. There weren't many assignments, so a lot rode on them. His test can be hard so study hard, and use logic. Some found him rude, but he wasn't rude to me personally.
Be ready for him to be rude. His emails are beyond rude and he has no idea that the things that he says ACTUALLY hurt students. I don't like him and that's it. I hope he reads this and changes his ways!
Personally, I enjoy Dr. Weber's class. It's lecture heavy, but he ties real world examples into his topics and its fairly easy. He's direct and gives really good feedback on assignments. As long as you take assignments seriously and show that you care about the work you should fine. I've never found him to be rude. He seems really sincere.
Weber is extremely rude and condescending in his emails and interactions, not so much in person/Zoom. He goes on long rants and stories/examples with so much useless details you lose track of the point. He always thinks hes right so good luck trying to debate/say anything that isnt what he thinks is right. His grades mostly rely 4 tests.
Weber is a truly great professor. Informative & inspirational. YOU HAVE TO WANT TO LEARN THE BASICS OF COMMUNICATION! If you are, Weber will TEACH them to you AND change your life. Intelligent, ENTHUSIASTIC. Big heart. He is able to run a Zoom class of 200 students like a conversation with us. I learned so much!
Dr. Weber is my favorite professor I've had at UNCW. He is hilarious, down to earth, and knows his stuff. As long as YOU care, he is willing to discuss things and work with you. Dr. Weber cares so deeply about his students and goes out of his way to personally invest in and support them. Stick around after class! He has the best stories and jokes.
Okay, Dr. Weber is super funny and sweet as person, but as a professor I feel like he could have been better at communicating verbally on larger assignments. If you are looking to take this course as an elective, I highly suggest not (It catered to strictly COM majors).
Not gonna lie, Weber can be a bit sassy. However, the ppl that take it personally are usually the lazier kids expecting to have their hand held all throughout college. (I speak from experience in group work). The class is so easy and as long as you put forth the effort and have a few brain cells left its not as hard as ppl claim. U get what u give.
Weber is a very rude and condescending professor. He thinks he's above everyone else and he doesn't take time to help you understand something. I don't recommend him at all.
Heavily project-oriented class & graded on a few things (2 papers, 2 media creation assignments in this semester's case). Tough grader but is dedicated to the subject, knowledgable, & loves students who are as enthused by WW2 rhetoric as he is. Would only take again since I'm used to his teaching style; take Weber if you're looking for a challenge
Hello, if you are reading this please consider avoiding this class. I took COM 105, or the introductory COM class with Weber. He talks too much and explains things in ways that are extremely dragged out and overzealous. A main point we learned in the class is that "the simplest explanation is often the correct one". Which is very ironic.
I did not like this class, pretty much only tests and exams that make a difference gradewise.
Weber has been one of the best professors I have ever had. All of the assignments are doable & can pass this class with an A. If you pay attention & do what is asked of you, you will succeed. He also gives so many extra credit assignments to help your grade. He wants to see you succeed and will do meetings with you for help and guidance.
Weber is kind, but not concise. We have a group project with 41 pages of instructions that we're all struggling to understand. He gives extra credit though and is approachable to ask questions. He cares about his students. You could do the bare minimum and get a B or better, but if you put in effort you'll earn his respect, and that's worth it.
Honestly worst professor Ive ever had. Its a 105 course and acted like its a 400. Hes very rude and basically makes you feel like your stupid if you ask a question. He gives you zeros over assignments when you have a valid excuse. Honestly dont think he should be teaching. Dont take him I promise .
Gave an excessively long project manual. it was very confusing. Besides that, a delight! Nothing better than being taught by someone who absolutely adores their field of study. Offers so many tools and genuinely wants to forge a relationship with students. So kind and so willing to answer questions. Genuinely wants to help you shoot for the stars.
Weber cares about his students and wants them to pass. I found his class enjoyable.
Wonderful and kind professor. His lectures are enjoyable and easy to follow. Just pay attention and take notes.
Dr. Weber is super nice and passionate about the success of his students! If you work hard, you can definitely make an A in this class. He likes a good work ethic!
Weber is a good guy, but isnt really the best professor. Treats the class like its a 400 level class, boring lectures that are very wordy/dont make a lot of sense, thinks very highly of himself, can be rude in email replies, etc. He also designs the class specifically for COM majors to prepare them for COM 200, so dont take it as an elective.
Dr. David Weber is one of the most helpful and informative professors I've had. If you show that you are learning the material and that you can use it in your educational and professional endeavors, he will reward you with the grades you deserve.
I love Weber. He is a neat guy and his lectures are actually very entertaining. He makes the class fun and his work is pretty easy....you just have to do it!!!
My favorite professor in college. He is understanding, and wants to see you succeed. Anybody saying bad comments must be lazy. Com 105 is tough but every class I have had with him since has been amazing! Very few assignments but amazing teacher! 10/10
Try your best to not take his class if you can. He is very confusing and it was hard for me to fully understand the material by the way his lectures are. He also has a terrible way of taking attendance that most students have difficulty with.
Weber is great! He may bring up his ratemyprofessor ratings up in class LOL but he is really a good guy who is passionate about communication. Be ready to read for OTE's & think deeper. I'm not a com major but he does a good job of making me think about what a com major could have in store for me. Highly suggest you take even as an elective!
Very rude comments towards students. When students ask a question he makes it much more confusing and doesn't answer the actual question, instead goes on a rant not anywhere close to addressing the actual question. The content itself is not hard but he structures the tests awfully and gives 0 explanation towards the team project.
Dr. Weber is an amazing professor and makes this entry level course engaging. I found his grading hard at first and went into office hours for guidance. He gave useful feedback and really took the time to ensure I understood the material. My biggest advice for this course is to go into office hours and ask questions. when you have them.
Dr. Weber does well to make his lectures interesting and informative. Despite being a moderately tough grader, he is very understanding and gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. He can come across as condescending sometimes, but it comes from a place of genuine care for his students.
Dr. Weber is a good professor. He gave good lectures and he shows the importance of communication outside of the classroom. However, sometimes when giving instructions he was too vague or confusing for many of us to understand. Other than that it was an average amount of coursework.
Dr. Weber is my favorite professor so far at UNCW! He is so funny and engaging in class, even during his lectures. He is super assessable outside of class, and is always excited to help out. He takes time to know the names of many people in our 100+ person class, which says a lot about how much he is rooting for his students success!
Love Weber as a person but he is a very tough grader. His grading criteria are unclear or too detailed but hard to understand. Textbook is required he made us do quizzes based on chapter readings. I highly wouldn't recommend but he was my only option. He's just difficult for no reason. But the course content is easy to understand.
My favorite professor. 105 contains lots of information but Weber makes it easy and fun to understand. Weber is always available to help. He gives detailed guides for readings and exams. He's funny during class -- sit up front to hear his sidesass. Weber & 105 are everything you want in a college course and professor.
This class was amazing! Dr. Weber is super understanding and I could not reccommend him enough. We had a lot of "missions" in this class where we would go around campus and find examples of what the lecture was on. So if you don't show up for class you wont get a good grade. We had a textbook, but didnt use it.
Dr. Weber is a great professor! He gives thousands of extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of them! There is one big group project, but it was not that difficult. Also, he uses PointSolutions to take attendance so if you miss class, your grade will drop! It's evident that he cares about and wants to get to know his students.
D Web is an excellent professor. He genuinely cares about each student and his class. He's quick to reply, helpful, and attentive to each student. He pushes YOU to do YOUR best. Only delta is the quizzes are confusing, I wish he would give us chapters/page #'s to focus on per quiz. They just don't seem to match to his entertaining lectures. 10/10
Dr. Weber is genuinely a very caring professor, his class is difficult but only because it is necessary in order to be prepared for COM 200. I highly recommend taking his class and stopping by office hours, because he is very interested in learning who you are as a person and helping you with your goals. Thanks D Web!
Grades very tough, and is hard to please.
The class content itself was interesting, but it did not translate in class. I tried to stay engaged, but he would often over-complicate everything. However, he does give lots of extra credit, which is nice.
Professor Weber is such a sweet guy. At first, I didn't know how I felt about him but then I got further into his class and really started to admire him. He's a little goofball who is so so passionate about what he teaches. His emails can be very long, but he's just thorough I would say. Really passionate professor and isn't too tough on grading.
Dr. Weber is an amazing professor, his dedication toward his students and concern over their success is rare in a college setting. He makes the relatively straightforward COM material into an adventure and is truly an inspiration. He will push you to succeed through his positive words and endless extra credit opportunities! 15/10
Im about to have to drop this class and lose thousands of dollars because this man is a piece of work. He is nasty in his emails and is horribly tough to please. This is a basic communications class. I am a straight A student and im making a 40. Students are degraded and insulted in his emails. Please read the bad reviews. It might save you $
Dr. Weber is a good prof, but if you're not a Comm major you won't like 105. It's easy but pretentious stuff (e.g. Comm-specific definitions for words you come across daily). Lectures could be boiled down to 15 mins. Plenty of extra credit. Easy A if you don't mind side-quests and everything sounding like a fluffed essay.
Super tough grader. Personally would look for another prof for COM 105. lots of extra credit but if you don't go to class your grade will suffer.
Avoid this man at all cost. Taking this class is a waste of time and money. The lectures and notes do not help when taking quizzes or exams. Lectures are boring and un engaging. He tends to raise his voice a lot and is rude to students. He offers extra credit but it is hard to get him to respond when you ask to do it. Avoid this professor.
One word to describe this professor would be horrible. Avoid taking this class with this professor. Extremely harsh grader and rude towards students. I do not know a single person who has had a good experience with him. Definitely consider taking this class through a different professor or at a CC.
DO NOT TAKE!!
The material is simple but he makes it complicated by typing like a fluffed essay (quizzes, tests, etc). He degraded and harassed student*S* in email. He was unhelpful in person. Everyone I met said they would have dropped if they realized what we were in for. I feel like all i learned about was narcissistic personality disorder. DONT TAKE
I took Weber for 3 classes, and he is one of the best professors in the COM department. It's easy to get an A in his classes, especially if you come to class, which he does not require. I think he gets a bad rap from 105 students, but beyond 105 getting an A is very doable. I highly recommend him for any course.
This was my first class with Weber after taking 105 and it was much easier/enjoyable overall. There was not much homework for the class, you were mostly graded based on participation and he did a great job explaining material so we could easily participate.
Honestly, I've been seeing a lot of negatives on DW, but he wasn't as bad as the other comments are saying, to my knowledge. He is a lecture heavy professor, with a lot of group work in between that, but he isn't a tough grader and always provides TONS of extra credit opportunity throughout his course. I received an A+ by going to class and trying.
I had a good experience in Weber's class. I think he is a good teacher and will respect you as a student if you SHOW UP to class and actually LISTEN. The course itself is super easy. There is a decent amount of work but it is all super clear and readings are only like 10 pages. Show up, listen, and show respect to Weber and your chillinnn.
Weber was nice at first, but as the semester went on, he began to make comments here and there. He would randomly say some out of pocket things in class that you could clearly tell would make students uncomfortable. He is very ruder in emails, not sure how he is still a professor. He needs to get a grip.
Professor Weber has a very specific teaching style that can be hit or miss. The coursework is straightforward, but attendance is mandatory and he can be harsh in his grading and communication. I'd recommend using unstuck study for study prep to supplement the material.
Weber's impact on me will last forever. He gave me confidence to take on a leadership role on a crew. He makes you see how you can change the world by communicating well. Course is challenging because Webers standards high--but he has every student's back. Real intelligent. Listen for funny comments he makes under his breath in class.
Attendance is required. Uses daily questions to check attendance. Don't leave class early. Class is very easy but some test questions are quite specific. Lectures are really boring, try not to fall asleep. Class requires minimal effort.
Dr. Weber is an okay professor. The class itself is pretty straightforward and easy if you make it that way. There is one group project which honestly wasn't hard at all, but I had a solid group. The lectures are extremely boring and honestly way too long. Weber himself is very nice and caring, but I wouldn't choose him if there were other options.
Dr. Weber was a very impactful professor. This was my first COM class i've taken, and he definitely started my educational career with a bang. His lectures are really informative and there is so much he talks about that can be taken away right from class. This is real-world knowledge! He is a great storyteller too. He likes to fluff things up tho.
Attending lectures is crucial yet extremely boring. Tests are not hard but ask oddly specific questions which required you to be in class on a certain day to know. If you can just suck it up, he does offer a ton of extra credit opportunities which should easily allow you to get a good grade.
Dr. Weber is genuinely my favorite professor. You can tell he cares deeply about his students and his job. His lectures are straightforward and provide you with a lot of good information. He gave us at least 15 extra credits, so it is very difficult for you to do badly in this class. As long as you take notes, you should get at least a B. 1000/10!!
Dr. Weber is by far the best professor I've had at UNCW. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches. He gives students every opportunity to succeed. The course curriculum itself is pretty straightforward to understand if you attend class and take notes. Important stuff for tests or quizzes he usually lets you know about.
Ignore the negative reviews. I have taken 5 courses with him and taking a DIS. Due to larger numbers in 105 he may seem less approachable but this isn't true, Dr. Weber is easily my favorite professor. He genuinely loves his students. Especially in smaller classes after 105 he teaches practically instead of lecturing. HIGHLY recommend!
Great professor. Whoever says otherwise is tripping.
Very nice and always willing to answer questions after class and over emails. Offers LOTS of extra credit and tests are fairly easy. Gives very good lectures about the material! Would definitely take him for Com105! He really helped explain the com major as a whole and give an accurate description of com 105.
Lectures are extremely long and fluffed up. He cares about his students and is accessible outside class. Uses online method to check attendance which sometimes does not work. One major group project that is not awful. Exams are okay but specific, so studying class notes is helpful.
Although Dr. Weber's lectures are very fluffed up, I enjoyed this class. If you come to class and pay attention you will be just fine. Weber occasionally takes attendance on point solutions, so you want to come to class. He offers extra credit opportunities and is accessible outside of class. There is one large group project but it's not bad.
Weber is nice but goes off topic often. Some of his comments can be viewed as controversial. The tests he provides however are very difficult as he asks long winded questions and expects you to write everything down during lectures in order to get a good grade on tests. I am a great test taker but have failed to get over a 70 on any of his tests.
Dr. Weber is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I have failed to hear anything good about him from anyone else. He talks about nothing during lectures and never stays on topic. He says his tests aren't "fluffed up," yet I have not gotten over a 70 on any of his exams. He is genuinely rude and extremely unprofessional via email. Don't take.
I love Dr. Weber. The only negative thing I have to say about him is that he claims he does "not fluff" on his tests and lectures, even though he does. Remember that you are taking a COM class, and fluffing is part of it. He offers TONS of extra credit, so there is no reason that you should be failing his class. Go to office hours! He will love you
His lectures are fluffed and pretty lengthy but he does get to it eventually. Tests are online, they all make sense as long as you go to class. Random sidequests that take attendence, but overall attendence isnt mandatory. A lot of collaboration, turn to your neighbor, etc. He says weird/ random stuff sometimes, but overall a fine/good teacher.
Weber is a D1 yapper. Be prepared for him to talk for 10 minutes about something he could explain in 1 minute, or give you a whole essay emailed back to you when you ask one question. He does know what hes talking about though. Its a big lecture class and attendance is optional but there is the pointsolutions randomly in class which could get u.
This class was definitely helpful for writing papers and even becoming a better communicator. Pros: - Not a lot of homework - No final - Don't 'have' to participate Cons: - Huge project towards the end - Attendance isn't mandatory but he does point solutions - Talks a lot! Pro/Con: - Large class
Weber is a great professor- I had him for COM 105 and was kinda bored but I didn't have much of a connection with him considering it was a large class. He is now my professor for COM 344 and having a smaller classroom with him is awesome... Not a lot of HW, gave me a five day extension, collaborative and discussion based assignments. He's awesome.
Dr. Weber is a great professor; just be prepared to attend class and take notes. The tests are super easy if you study, and the CREW project was easy because Dr. Weber walks you through the project and makes it easy to understand. If you need Dr. Weber outside of class, he is always checking his email and has great office hours.
Overall very engaging and makes class fun if you participate. He says exams arent fluffed up but they do feel that way. But they arent too difficult as long as you do the study guide. Attendance is measure through Pointsolutions. A textbook was required but hardly used
An alright professor. I liked his class until the crew project, would ask him a question to clarify, he would answer with another question. After turning in my group project, he then told me that because my group all had Bs in the class that we couldnt write an A level paper and implied that we used AI, and we didn't and he still gave us a B.
Dr. Weber really does his best to make lectures entertaining and he cares a lot about teaching. Attendance is not tracked in the lecture, but there may be random group assignments that are only given (and must be submitted) in class. Also, you have to buy a like $40 pointsolutions subscription to vote on polls in class for attendance some days.
Dr. Weber is absolutely amazing. He is a very kind man who genuinely cares about his students and loves his career. There was never a day he did not give 100%. He is extremely encouraging and has his classes set up to as long as you go to class and take notes (and pay attention), you will do just fine. He wants you to succeed in both class and life
Dr. Weber is a funny and engaging professor. While he may have a lot to say sometimes, his lectures were informational and interactive, and I enjoyed them. The textbook is online. Tests are easy to study for with his study guide, and there's only one BIG project. Highly recommend if you are debating the communication studies major!
