Dr. Harker is extremely helpful and will discuss topics at length outside of class time. He is very organized during lecture, and his tests are pretty forward. The only curveballs to watch out for are test questions that ask for specific dates and locations, and therefore seem a little out of place in a philosophy course. Good professor and class.

Dr. Harker's class isn't hard if you expend at least a respectable amount of effort and show up every day. He seems to genuinely care about students' thoughts and opinions, and appeared to be eager to help a student if they needed it. His class was interesting and he was knowledgeable about the subject matter. I enjoyed learning under him.

Although I wasn't extremely interested in the material covered in Dr. Harker's class, I did learn a lot about things I didn't know about before. To earn a good grade/pass the class, it is important to attend class. Those that skipped out on class a lot, didn't do so well. I wish we could have had more class discussions.

I was quite pleased with this class. Prof Harker went through the material quickly and efficiently, but didn't mind stopping or slowing down to help clarify points that some students had problems with. Dr. Harker is a great professor and you can tell he loves what he does (obviously, since he has written a textbook about it). He is always quick to respond to emails. With that being said, I would not recommend taking Science & the Modern World online, the concepts can be too complex & I wish I would have just taken it on campus.

so glad he didn't require attendance, he made the class or tried to make it fun, sadly students were super reserved and stayed silent. I questioned the book a couple times in my writing assignments, don't think he liked that since he wrote it. sounds like the teacher from willie Wonka and the chocolate factory. the guy is awesome, glad I took him.

Took this class online, I was told that it was a difficult class and assumed that the online course would be easier. A chapter a week from the book he wrote, as well as supplemental readings. 1 quiz a week and 4 exams total. Discussion post and response once a week. Quizzes are difficult - exams pull questions from the quizzes and the study guide.

This course was really enjoyable, even though it was an online philosophy class. Since Dr. Harker wrote the textbook, he expects you to be familiar with the content on the discussion boards. He does a great job of responding to posts and posing interesting questions and responses. Overall, four exams, and a quiz and discussion due every week.

Professor Harker's class is pretty difficult. If you're a mediocre student, I strongly advise you to join a study group or find a student who truly knows the material. The class is book heavy so be prepared to read 20+ pages a week. During the discussion posts be extremely cautious to go by the book versus outside sources.

My semester with Dr. Harker went very well. If one had questions on the topic, he would always further the conversation to make sure the whole class completely understood. Going to class paid off because he would have surprise in-class assignments. I personally never missed class because of this.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. I took his class online and it was the only B I have made thus far. His quizzes are very hard to pass. The only advice I would give is as you read look at the study guide question. He makes this class very hard to be successful in. After I emailed him several times he would only answer with a question.

Worse prof in my entire undergrad career. He wrote his own textbook which makes it worse cause half of his discussion questions dont even make since but you cant argue him or that reflects on your grade. Hes does not give good academic feedback on how to improve, rather criticizes your work and moves on. Wouldnt take him again given the chance!

The required textbook was written by him, which is thankfully very cheap, is so FREAKING dense that any time I had to read, I had to reread a page 10 times to get what he was trying to say. Also the quizzes and DB posts are weekly and straight from his run-on sentence heavy "textbook". Super nice guy though and really loves philosophy.

David Harker is one of the worst professors I have ever had... he is a difficult grader and extremely arrogant. He teaches only one perspective (his own) and is extremely intolerable and disrespectful to anyone who holds different beliefs. For a philosophy class, I was disappointed that the only content we talked about was his personal opinions.

Read the chapter and everything else will come easy. Tests have same questions as quizzes. Pretty easy for a phil class. Only dedicate a couple hours per week and you should be fine

I took Dr. Harker for PHIL 2640 online. It wasn't the hardest class I've ever taken, but it was definitely harder than it needed to be. He does weekly discussion boards which he grades way too harshly. You need your textbook to write your responses, and he wrote the book so you better do your research. Also, he does a quiz a week and 4 exams.

reading heavy. Every week you read a chapter, take a quiz, and do a discussion post. For discussions, you can make a 100, 66, or 0. The material isnt too bad but he wrote the book so you better understand it. The book is hard to decode because he tried to be too professional that he makes no sense. Best option for this class at least. take online.

You are supposed to do a discussion board every week, and he is so one-sided. Dr. Harker is very smart, but hes also slightly narrow minded. He really only wants you to say what he has to say or fail. I took him for an online class, and it was structured well, but the discussion posts was the worst part. You make either a 100,66, or 0. Its not really about discussing ideas, but rather if you agree with him.

Mr Harker has a grading mechanism where he grades based on opinion and not facts. He is so sure of himself to the point where he is not willing to hear the students out nor does he care to have a productive conversation about your concerns. It's either his way or the highway. That alone is enough to declare someone a second rate teacher.
