Ridiculous tests, no hw, lab practicals (tests). All he does is lecture and test. He says he won't ask questions about inforrmation in between the lines and he does. Biology is hard, but this guy makes it way too hard.
no home work, lectures were pointless. lectures left no time for questions, basically your on your own, well and your best friend better be that book,
Incredibly unprofessional, called a student retarded. Will be just as happy to see you get an A as he will a F. Unhelpful and thinks if you have a B you are doing outstanding. IE he does not want to give A's. Student almost flunking class asked for help and he said he'd be happy to teacher her again next semester. GPA damper for sure.
This class is an easy A/B if you give a little effort. The tests are not easy, but they are fair. Be sure to do the study guide q's before each test, because the tests are based on that. Your grade is based on 3 lecture tests, 3 lab practicals, and a final. There is a lot of extra credit, which saves you. Overall prepared, nice, fun teacher.
Ditto previous user. He's extremely organized, well-spoken, and straightforward. Dave's a bit intimidating at first, but it's an entry-level (weed-out) 400 class, so he has to be. Use the online study guide or cd that comes with the book and you're golden. The class takes a lot of effort, but the concepts aren't difficult.
A great teacher but his exams and Lab practicals are a bit hard. The Exams, which are conceptual, look more from an upper level Biology courses. If you study hard the text also if you like taking lab exams in fast paced enviroment you will earn an A.
Great teacher. If you need help he will be there. Please read the text or power point note before each lecture, you will do well. Exams are little bit hard but you will earn what how much effort you put. nice and fun teacher! If he teaches next level class I would take him again. Use the study guide and review the quiz before the exam.
This teacher rules! Very clear and super helpful. Your bio questions WILL be answered! No HW to turn in!!! Grades are based on labs and tests...bunch of available extra credit. Listen carefully and you're guaranteed a good grade.
It's a great class, but it's not easy. Requires a lot of time and effort, but it's not impossible to get a good grade. Some of the lectures are long, I personally gave him a hard time about it. :) He has a sense of humor so if you have a stick up your a$$, don't take him or else you could be offended. Curves his tests, no HW, just labs.
He gives you everything you need! You don't even need the book in this class because he gives you powerpoints. But I will still read the book before class. No hwk! Just test&praticial. You can get 50 extra credit from his lecture quiz. This class is not easy, but he'll give you tips if you ask.During mid-semester you'll understand his teaching style
Wolfe is a great teacher. He's good in front of the class--clear, helpful, good sense of humor. He also eliminates as much of the pointless leg work as possible. And he gives extra credit quizes. Do the end of chapter questions(where he gets ex. credit questions). For me, the lab practicals were harder than the tests, don't expect them to be easy.
Great teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed taking his class. He's got a young sense of humor so he makes the class totally fun and bearable if you don't like Biology. He also uses a lot of video and visual aids which made it a lot more interesting. I always look forward to this class. Highly recommended teacher.
Prof. Wolfe is an interesting teacher. I find his lectures very cool and his constant sarcasm/humor keeps the material alive. Unfortunately he gives no study guides to what is going to be on the exams. I had hard time studying for the exams so much general material. I recommend rereading the material until it's locked in! good luck
Very cool teacher, class is usually fun except sometimes he'll ask some trick questions than eveyone will be nervous about answering him, and thats my only beef, tests are fairly difficult, you must study his slides and read the book, 4 tests and a final nothing else and he grades on a curve just make sure you study and youll do fine
One of the worst teachers i ever had! four exams made up grade. no assignments or anything and there was absolutely no study guide for exams...he didn't really go over things well. over half the class dropped...
This was a really hard test! Grade is based on about 5 tests, which, the way they're worded are really hard. They are graded on a curve, but that just insures that everyone doesn't fail the class. Half of the class dropped by the end of semester. Lectures were pretty interesting and Prof Wolfe is a nice and helpful teacher, even humorous at times.
Great teacher, makes the subject interesting. I guess his only downfall is his exams. There is no study guide, so it makes studying for the exam difficult. Always takes additional time to help students if need be.
he is funny and nice, but the class is hard, there is no study guide for anything, 50 extra credit point on quizzes he gives. READ THE BOOK!!like all the time!!
The hardest class I have ever taken. He is absolutely useless. All he does is reading from his slides. He is a really nice dude, funny, and sometimes cute, but stay away if you don't want a bad grade.
Can everyone who says good things about him shut up for a second? He absolutely doesn't care about students, and even wants them to drop his class that he doesn't have that much grading to do. He likes to joke in lab but the lab practicals are extremely tough. He tells you at the beginning of semester to study day and night if you want an A.
His tests are long and difficult. He feels like he teaches at a 4-year institution, come on now..we are in community college; he doesn't care about you or your grade. I always felt like he was there for his paycheck only. No passion for helping students. Although most girls liked him cuz he is really funny, charming, and sweet...hates most of guys,o
He is really cool and always jokes about his kids and family members, but that's not helpful. Lab practicals are way too stressful. 50 question - one minutes only for each. That's so ridiculous. Read the book and reread it again and again if you want an A in this class. And if you don't have bio backgroud, then don't take this class.
The class is hella boring. All I was doing the whole time was staring at his muscles (he is in a really good shape), but please, for God sake, stay away from this class. Don't waste your time or take it if it's going to be your only class. You will have to do tons of studies every day. His slides are not helpful, so read the book all the time.
Wolfe is engaging and keeps the material digestible. But it's a LOT of material. Read the book and use Campbell's other resources (online, printed workbook) to reinforce all the information. Tests are based on lecture. Pay attention to what he says during labs as these tidbits will show up on the practical even if they aren't in the lab book.
He's a very entertaining teacher, but his class was incredibly hard. The tests were tricky and complicated, and some of the questions on the lab practicals came out of no where. You must memorize everything in the book and lab manual. no study guides, no hints on what to study for, didn't seem very helpful in assisting students.
Funniest teacher ever if you like sarcastic humor. Hate biology, but loved taking his class. Four tests + final. All are curved. No homework. Offers 30 pts of xcredit which is easy. Final is reworded questions from 4 prev tests so pay attention
One of my favorite teachers so far. Not an easy class by any means but if you are willing to learn and study you will do well. He is extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer almost any question I threw at him. He keeps the class very entertaining. Do watch out for the practicals, study EVERYTHING even if it seems inconsequential.
He's a cool guy but his class is so hard! 4Hard tests, no study guides, and slides are not helpful.Try to STAY AWAY!!
So I took Wolfe a few years ago & felt I needed to rate him. He prepares u for ur future! If u are going into the bio/chem field, IT IS NOT EASY AND SHOULD NOT BE; bio's a hard subject, if you can't handle his class then change majors! He is one of the best teachers I've ever had and gave me the building blocks for all my bio classes. Thanks Wolfe
I felt compelled to leave a comment after reading what everyone had 2 say. I don't know what's wrong with these ppl, but I LOVED this class. You can't rely solely on the notes to study for exams, but I felt that this class was very straight forward. I was drowning in Chem 401 w/ Meador and didn't study much for this class and still got a high A
Dave is an excellent teacher he made me enjoy lots of things that I didn't like before....trust me the course is intense b/c it's Bio ,but study the notes slides again and again because his exams based on his slides , questions come from lecture slides! Come to his office hours and he will help you prepare for his exams.
David is a wonderful teacher. I took him over the summer and his class helped me confirm that I really wanted to major in Biology. The class definitely isn't easy and I recommend reading the book, but if you put in the effort you will get a good grade. He 's always willing to help and is very clear in his teaching. You will enjoy his class a lot!
Excellent professor! Super intelligent! Not an easy class but with no previous bio experience I pulled off a B. Read the book and study slides. Loved this class. I agree with previous comment - if you can't handle this class you are not meant for bio.
great teacher. Diificult subject matter. Keep up and you'll do fine!
Prof. Dave seems cold if you don't know him, but once you're in his class he's pretty cool. He is a nice guy, but the subject isn't easy. I took him over the summer & was hard to get help from him because O.H. are by appt. However, he was willing to help in class! Study the slides & read the bk & you'll be fine. I pulled it off with an A!use beacon
no homework just lectures and tests. its very easy to pass his class if you take good notes and take the time to study, tests are not that easy but biology isnt an easy subject. he takes the time to make sure you fully understand the subject if you have any questions. very dull class but its a dull subject.
Great teacher
He is a wonderful teacher and he enjoys teaching the amazing aspects of biology. He goes by his power points and the book, but reading the book is key. He will also tell you on some of the chapters whether to more focus on the power points or the book, but most of the chapters that he tests on are from the book. He is very helpful and funny. So I recommend him, I also suggest recording him and listening to him later, he tends to talk fast.
Highly recommend this teacher. The material is not easy if you don't go to class and don't study. But if you do you should be completely fine. Master Wolfe is an awesome and nice teacher and you will most definitely have a great time in his class, no doubt about it.Also recording his lectures and listening later really helps to learn the material.
Print out his lecture slides and take your notes on the slides during lecture or bring your laptop and annotate the slides during lectures. The 4 exams are all multiple choice but the wording can get confusing. The 3 lab practicals are what you should study for the most. The most obscure things are asked on them. Overall funny guy.
I would say go find somebody else if you need to take this class. The worst thing is IA. she is worse than instructor. The class is hard but if you study like 4 to 5 hours a day, you should be fine.
LOVE LOVE LOVED THIS CLASS!!!!!!!! Just make sure you READ READ READ!!! All I did was READ the chapters CAREFULLY, read through the lecture slides after lec and printed them out and took notes on them during lecture and read through the lab manual carefully. This class can be easy don't listen to people who said it is hard they just didn't do work
Great professor and awesome class. I would definitely recommend taking him if you need Bio. He puts the lecture notes online so you have your work cut out for you when studying for exams. Read the labs before coming to class.
horrible teacher who does not know how to deal with students respectul though. The IA is terrible she enjoys takes point off the stucents for lab section
HE IS SO FREAKING HOT. I ENJOYED COMING TO CLASS JUST TO SEE HIS BEAUTIFUL FACE. TOOK THIS CLASS SUMMER 2012, SO Y'ALL WHO READ THIS, KNOW WHO I AM. WOLFE, AS FOR YOU, STAY FINE- AND ONE DAY MAYBE YOU'LL BE MINE <3
Fantastic Professor. Tests are based off the powerpoint slides, so make sure you know those inside and out. If you need additional clarification, go to the textbook for help. No homework. Grade is accumulation of 4 Tests+3 Lab Practicals+ The Final.
STUDY POWERPOINT SLIDES then you'll do well on final and 4 lecture exams. For 4 lab practical exams, those are the ones you really need to study (need to know every little thing). Plenty of extra credits and no homework. Boring lectures though.
I am not sure why students are saying that the exams are based off of the slides. He says they are, but they are not. His lectures are very fun, but his exams are impossible and forget about the lab practicals. They mark every little thing off. You might as well memorize the whole lab manual to get any points on them. No hw, extra credit by quizzes
Nice professor but I regretted that I took his class. He didn't prepare me well, especially the genetics thing and that made me suffered a lot when come to higher level classes. Although I got a high grade in his class I am considering retake Bio 400 again with another Professor.
I enjoyed this class. He is chill in lecture and labs are fun and relaxed. Don't expect to pass easily, study study study. Lab practicals are difficult so don't skimp on going over that material. He's funny and helpful, lectures put together well. Would recommend - just be prepared to work hard.
Selfish and rude. He thinks you are stupid if ask questions.
fail after 1st time taking him. retake and still got C. awful. his test are so hard. ready to read the whole book. lab pratical test is so hard. never want to take him again.
Hes really easy , IF U DONT READ THE BOOK THEN YOUR NOT GOING TO DO WELL
I liked David Wolfe a lot. If you don't read the book, you will not do very well in this class. Highly recommend printing lecture Powerpoints and taking notes on the slides instead of using a separate notebook. Tests are really difficult, but studying lecture material and reading the book will help. Keep labs and study those for practical exams
Great Bio teacher, great sense of humor and good lecture topics. you MUST read the book to do remotely well and go over powerpoints while studying. this class was hard but he definitely is there to help guide you and get you the grade you want. also gives 50 extra credit points worth of quizzes with potential test questions. great teacher.
you WILL NEED TO READ THE BOOK WITH THE POWERPOINTS to help further understanding of the subjects. The test contain a lot of info and little things are on there. Studying just the ppts won't be enough to get an A. Learn all things in bold. some Extra Credit quiz questions reappear on test so study those too.
Wolfe is a nice prof and tries to keep things interesting. Labs and assignments are easy. Lecture slides and lab exam study guides are posted on d2l. Don't rely on lectures to help you much on the lecture exams though. Memorize the textbook if you want an A. Lab exams and lecture exams are on separate days, which is nice!
He's a great lecturer but his exams are hard. Do well on those extra credit quizzes. THEY WILL SAVE YOU. You have to read the book thoroughly to do well on the exam, making lecture useless. Watch YouTube videos to help make the reading more interactive. You can't cram in this class. Start early!
Read the book and get the study guide that comes with it. Go to class, the lectures are interesting and show you what to focus on. Extra credit quizzes. Always responds to emails and happy to help. Lab points are easy. Exams are multiple choice and hard. Lab exams are hard. Be the good student you were in chem and you will be OK. Would take again!
His class is super easy. Did not read the book. Just look up the practice tests (with answers) for the textbook and study that. Also, study the lecture slides. Most of the questions are basically the same and the ones that aren't there are easy. His lab exams are ok. He lets you go back to stations if you did not have enough time to answer.
Prof. Wolfe is a great guy but this class is dry. Lectures at 8 am are not my cup of tea. If you want to do well on the exams, you HAVE to read the book and remember minor details. Labs are interesting and fun, but lab practicals are difficult and you must pay attention to REALLY minor details. The class average is usually a C for tests and labs.
Straight forward guy. Low key funny. If you read the textbook, you'll do very well and the text book is easy to read and understand.
One of the best professors i've ever had! if you think he is hard and his tests are not from the lectures, then you are not trying hard enough! he makes it clear from day one that this class is highly intensive in terms of keeping up with the material! The extra credit quizzes are so helpful, and who doesnt like extra points?I HIGHLY recommend him.
I would not recommend taking his class because he is tough grader, the class is dry, he does not like to answer questions, and his power points are not in the tests. You must read the text book.
Online test would be helpful for this class.
This is class is hard but useful and I highly recommend his class. He will give you about 50 points as extra credit which is helpful
He doesn't give that many As in class. The average grade on midterms is a C in this class. Doesn't seem to want to help students make it. Doesn't like to answer questions either. Pretty dry teacher. You'll do better some place else
Imcurrently in his class and have over 100% b4 the 4th midterm. This class isnt hard, there are 50 multiple choice Q. per exam and as long as you read the ch. and get a good understanding, you should do good. He gives 10 extra credit quizzes ea. Wrth 5 points. HWs are basically free points based on the labs. Read every lab exp. Before lab practical
More students drop out of his class in the Biology department than any other Biology class at ARC. The average grade for the test is a "C". Not too many A is given as a final grade. Just ask his students in his class like me. His tests are very HARD. They are designed to weed out just everyone except a few people. Thats not teaching in my book.
He has been teaching this class for a decade at least so his prospective is NOT FRESH but rather STALE. The result is difficult exams and lab exams with no interest to use the CANVAS what so ever and instead do everything the hard way as in dinosaur time. He also grades very harshly unnecessarily. There are teachers out there with fresh prospective
Professor Wolfe is great teacher. Always available for help during lab or office hours. the class is very book heavy. prepare to read and understand concepts. tests are multiple choice but difficult. practicals make you think. few assignments that are gimme points. 50 points of extra credit available. not an easy course but prepares you well
Professor Wolfe is very engaging and makes the material far more interesting. Love the examples that he gives and the humor he has. He gives extra credit opportunities and the class overall doesn't require much work besides studying for the exams/practicals. Exams are multiple choice and he hand-grades the practicals himself.
Professor Wolfe is one of my favorites. His lectures are always entertaining with plenty of humor and useful mnemonics. He has clear expectations, is approachable, and gives lots of extra credit quizzes. Make sure to read the textbook as it will help a lot with the exams! His tests require you to understand and think critically about the material.
One word Awesome!
He is an awesome professor . He uses a fee textbook that you download online. He thinks that spending money on a textbook is a waste. We did a lab everyday and we didn't have to turn it in until the end. he gives full points as long as you try.
Get ready to work! This is a hard class. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't come to class you're shooting yourself in the foot. His tests are multiple choice and his lab practicals are short answer. Study study study you can do well.
hardest exams and lab practicals you will take in your entire life.
Wolfe was an awesome professor, he gives 50 points of extra credit, and is actually pretty funny. Unfortunately this class is still brutal, you realllllly have to understand the chapters to do well on the exams. Lab practicals are pretty easy, but the multiple choice lecture exams are rough.
Subject is no easy, but if u study hard you will pass this class. Must attend lab.
Pretty straight forward professor/class. 4 midterms, 1 final, and 3 lab practicals. You have to take good notes during lab and pay real close attention, otherwise those practicals will kill your grade. If you want a good grade, you will have to read the book and do online practice quizzes; ie Quizlet, Easynotecards. Those really help.
His exams is not from his slides, neither the book. if you know what i mean
All of his exams are from the study guide, STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE YOU'LL GET AN A 100%
This guy is the best, if you hate science and just need to pass that annoying bio class, this is your go to, makes it simple and helps you really understand whats going on. 10/10 would recommend.
Professor Wolfe is nice and respected. I really appreciate the way he helped students to improve the grade through extra credits (70 points). The assignments were easy and he graded generously (10/10). Lab practical was easier than lecture exam because of less content. You have to take note on labs, read procedures, and understand it thoroughly.
Professor Wolfe was one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures were clear and interesting , and he was very approachable and willing to answer any questions. He also graded very generously and quickly. Biology isn't the easiest subject, but professor Wolfe made it very manageable.
His class will be easy, if you read the book and focus. He is really caring and nice guy. His grading system is fair and easy. He offers tons of extra quizzes and other stuff. He really pushes you toward your goal. He is an amazing professor. People who say his class is hard, maybe don't study enough or don't give their 100 percent effort.
Easy A. Didn't learn much just memorized a lot of test questions from the test bank. Labs are easy too he allows collaboration.
THE GOATTTTTT
Amazing professor. He's challenging if you typically find biology difficult but he is more than willing to help you and review topics. He's also an absolute nerd which is quite fun, he's super fun to geek out with during labs. All in all a great guy and a great teacher.
My main issue with this prof. Is that he didnt lecture! His lecture were pretty blunt and mundane and you basically had to teach your self everything by reading the book and thats aloooot of reading and hard to understand especially in the genetics unit. Hes nice and will answer questions but not a good lecturer
Great guy, really made me interested in what we were talking about. Offers tons of extra credit and if you take notes and do the reading you will have no problem!
Your grade is based on your tests. No quizzes and your homework is to study. He goes pretty fast during lectures but he posts them on canvas so you can study along with your book. Gives plenty of opportunity for easy extra credit. Honestly if you pay attention and go over "need to knows" at the end of his lectures you'll do just fine. He's awesome
Really great guy who made a lot of funny comments. Knows what he's talking about and didn't make it too hard because he knows it's just a GE class. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Grade was just based off tests
Pretty much in line with the rest of the comments, the man is a real gem. I'd recommend reading the text ahead of time and just use the lecture as review to ask questions but in the instance you do slack off (you shouldn't!!) he does offer a generous amount of extra credit. Also he's very receptive to questions so don't be shy!
This class wasn't easy but the lectures made fairly dry material interesting and funy. Attendance is necessary if doing the class in person but online the lectures are recorded and it is super convienent to learn at your own pace. Very cleay about the points and how to get them. Need to be self driven but the prof is always willing to help.
He's a great instructor: very smart , organized, responsive, patient and professional. He clearly explains complex topics and nuances. He responds to emails in seconds. He's a generous grader and offered many EC. I am very thankful for having such a great professor like him and I will remember his excellent teaching forever. He is my role model.
Bio410 is by nature a lecture-heavy class. However, Professor Wolfe REALLY knows his stuff and tries to make it as interesting as possible. There is little to no homework, which is both a pro and a con. If you are looking for an undemanding teacher or already know Bio (for ex, from AP Bio), I would highly recommend Wolfe.
The professor is nice, organized, and has a clear grading system. In regards to exams they're tough, and he makes you work hard for your grade.
He is one of the best professor in ARC. His power point slides were amazing. I was a engineering major and took this course in summer. We had to cover 18 chapters in 8 weeks. The labs are easy and will get full credit. We had 4 multiple choice Test which were super tough. Even if you get B all of them you can get A for finishing other assignments.
Professor Wolfe is Amazing! Great personality and knowledgeable. Attend all lectures to get most out of class. Labs are working in groups. Helps A Lot. Would absolutely recommend.
Lots of homework, online lectures are long and lots of information, and exams are difficult. But do not let that deter you. Professor Wolfe is an amazing professor. He knows his stuff, and he wants you to pass . Biology is not easy, but there is online tutoring available. If you do the work, it's possible to get an A.
This professor is one of the most understanding people I've had the honor of taking during a world pandemic. He's really flexible since I had work during exam sessions, he would reopen them so I could take them when I got off. Responds quickly to emails. This is a class you have to work for the grade you earn. Like... REALLY work for it.
He is very flexible, helpful, and understanding. He responds to emails quickly and definitely wants his students to pass his class. The class is very fast and content-heavy. I took Bio over the summer so if you decide to do that you must be really organized. If you stay organized then the class is pretty manageable and fun.
Had an asynchronous course & there were no surprises from the class itself and the prof. Everything is based points from the test, labster labs, textbook review questions, and 1 paragraph "research reports" after every unit (4 total). Prof is responsive and understanding to students. Passed w/ 87% and could've had an A if I didn't procrastinate!
I took this class my first semester of college and it was great! It was fully online with prerecorded slides, however Prof. Wolfe was great at explaining everything and gives good tricks on remembering the information. He was very pleasant and helpful as well. He gives several opportunities for extra credit also.
I enjoyed Professor Wolfe's class! This was my third time taking BIOL 400 because I didn't pass at FLC. His lectures are asynchronous with 4 unit exams, 2 practicals and no cumulative exam done on lab days. He's very accessible outside of class via email and responds fairly quick. Funny guy at times too. I would take him again if I could!
he's a boss
Great professor. Lots of long async lectures, hilarious in person. Gives repetition in a variety of ways and examples. Lots of independence, but also a lot of hand holding.
Couldn't recommend a professor more! Clear grading criteria, thorough and understandable online lectures, and engaging labs. He truly cares about his students learning and succeeding, and it shows. BIOL400 is a content heavy class, but he gives you all the tools you need and is there for you every step of the way. Very kind, and makes class fun!
Very understanding and grades fairly. Tests matched the lectures (recorded on canvas) fairly well, but there are no study guides nor exam topic lists. Lab grades are based on understanding rather than correct data. Be prepared to listen to a lot of overly long anecdotes and explanations.
Had a great experience! Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Lecture online, lab in person. The course itself is content heavy - do not procrastinate! Lectures/modules can take longer than you expect, but not in a bad way. I found the textbook modules very helpful for learning the material. Always looked forward to in-person labs.
Prof Wolfe is an amazing professor who deeply loves Bio and cares about his students. I wish he had fully in person classes, because hybrid was the only option this semester.
McGraw Hill SmartBook assignments are your best friend when studying for Exams. Class is very content heavy and his lecture videos take about 2-3x as long to write because he talks through the slides quickly. You CANNOT procrastinate + do NOT underestimate the amount of time the assignments take. Overall hes a funny guy and super knowledgeable
Took this class in the summer. Manageable, but a lot of info. Main source of teaching is online lectures, 4-5 lectures for each unit, 4 units. Take good notes and review before exams and you'll be good. 4 unit exams, 2 lab practical's, with no final. Curves exam grades most times. Gave some EC as well. Tip: Takes notes on lab sessions for practical
Took Professor Wolfe's BIOL400 class - content-heavy but manageable if you stay organized. His lectures are informative, and the textbook modules are super helpful. I found unstuckstudy great for study prep alongside other resources. Overall, a solid professor who wants students to succeed.
