AMAZING professor, knows his stuff so well, super kind when it comes to tests he will boost up your mark if the test was too hard. His notes are short, to the point and q's on the test are exactly the same as the ones he gives out as homework. what more do you want? Oh but his essay topics suck :( but i love the prof overall.
He really knows his stuff. For the first half of the semester we relied on the textbook, but then he posted articles for the remainder of the semester. He distributed the notes at the end of each class plus some review questions which would be on the quizzes. He's also a fair marker. I'd recommend him to any student.
Worst instructor I've ever had. His notes is just a repetition of the book's material, nothing new or useful. He doesn't properly explain the material, his examples are ridiculous. On tests he doesn't want to have any conflicts so everytime he just added 10 points to the work. Easy (I got B+), but useless and boring.
Great professor. If you are interested in discussing philosophical issues, his class is the place to be. He is very helpful, approacheable, knows his stuff and is an extremely fair marker. He's open to students' ideas and loves to debate. I highly recommend him.
David is an awesome prof. his tests are questions directly from his notes so be sure to go to his class as he does not post them online. He is very interesting to listen to and I definitely recommend taking 1102 with him! :)
great great prof
Awesome class, awesome prof and really interesting topics. This was one of the few classes I've taken for my degree that I actually enjoyed going to and doing the readings for.
Best professor ever! everything he teaches is interesting and his classes made me really enjoy school. Also, he's hot so that's a bonus.
great prof, easy to understand . very fun and interesting class. tests are all written but they are exactly like the exercises he gives out. lots of time is spent watching videos in class so thats always a plus. made me love, critical thinking
Really great prof, definitely recommend. He hands out really useful notes in class and if you study those notes well you'll do good on the tests. Easy on the eyes...
He is cool but his essay topics are sucks and he is not an easy marker. You will be fine if you can suck up his notes for quizzes. He tries to inspire students his passion but it is still hard to get his lectures
Pretty cool professor. His lectures are engaging, he is very funny and uses humour in examples and lectures, and is a fair marker. As long as you pay attention in class and go through the notes (which he provides!) you'll do well.
I HIGHLY recommend Dave. He is a fantastic teacher in every way. He is absolutely engaging, incredibly nice, and knows what he's talking about. He encourages the class to share their own opinions which can be rare in some philosophy classes. He made my first year at Douglas a GREAT experience and I would recommend him to anyone if asked!
He's engaging, and not to mention such a babe.
I took his night class and he made it very interesting even though the material is very boring. He is a very different and interesting person but is a hard marker.
Absolutely great prof, inspires you with his philosophical knowledge. By the end of semester you should have a good to great understanding in the topics covered. Clear and simple lectures, hands out notes and makes tests fairly easy as well. overall a 9/10 prof
He's a great teacher, very engaging. He made the material interesting. I felt sometimes the lectures went on for a little too long. He marks hard on his papers so make sure you have good arguments.
He is such an amazing professor!! SUPER GOOD LOOKING, which makes it easier to pay attention.
Dave is an absolute beauty. Makes a boring class interesting and engaging when it needs to be, follow the material and you're going to do well.
David is a really really REALLY good looking guy LOL. But that's only a bonus because he's a great prof on top of his looks! :) His quizzes are all based off his notes which makes it easy to study. Critical Thinking isn't the most exciting course but he makes it interesting. Would take a class with him again in a heartbeat.
He is the most amazing prof i have ever had he is so so so so awesome. I feel so fortunate to have taken his class and i recommend him to everyone :) Take his course if you actually want to learn something. he is also a younger guy but a mind of an elder. TAKE HIM YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
David is an awesome guy! To be honest, when he first walked into the class, I thought he was one of the students! His lectures are super interesting and makes really funny examples for practice questions. He is also a really fair marker. Make sure you participate in the discussions for the extra marks. Would take another class with him.
It was clear that David wanted everyone to do well. You still need to understand the topic (many people did poorly somehow) but if you're paying attention it's a breeze. His notes cover the important parts of the book and for the most part I didn't need to read the book at all. Going to class helps clarify topics and he is always approachable.
I had Dave for Critical Thinking in my first semester. I always looked forward to his class because of his humour, intelligence and engaging lectures. His tests are easy if you study the notes and make sure you have a clear understanding of them. Such an amazing prof, I look forward to taking more classes with him! Good looking dude too...
Dr Wolfe is a thoughtful and critical thinker and you will learn much from his classes and out of class discussions. Dr Wolfe is able to focus a breadth of material down to its essentials and present it in an interesting and enjoyable way.
Fantastic prof. Through taking a course with him, my latent love for philosophy was awakened. You have to study to do well on his tests, and you ought to seek his help if you're even slightly uncertain about something. He encourages that. Also, the rumours are true. The guy is gorgeous. Really caught me off guard, to be honest.
Hands down the most amazing teacher I have ever had. I looked forward to class, not just because of how gorgeous he is but because of how inspirational and passionate he is about philosophy. I learned more in his class than any class I have taken. Everyone should take this class.
He's great. Explains everything really well and is just really chill about everything. He goes off on tangents sometimes but it's really funny to watch.
David is very passionate about Philosophy. You really need to understand the concepts in order to apply them and do well on the tests. He hands out the notes, but also goes through them in great detail. Don't be afraid to ask any questions. 3 tests, 1 paper and a final along with participation. Textbook is only required for the chapter exercises.
Go to class - he loves participation and his lectures make things easy to understand. He asks great questions to get you thinking, and he gives hilarious examples/anecdotes. Exams are pretty straight forward if you pay attention in class, and his marking is very fair.
David is a fantastic prof, he gives long lectures but is more than happy to have discussion generated, gives clear instructions to the work assigned and makes his classes enjoyable. Would take again.
Wolfe is a cool prof. He wants you to succeed and helps you if you need clarification. The material is really dry, but he gives you all the notes you'll need. If you study the notes you'll ace his tests no problem.
My second course with David and will definitely take another course with him. Class always becomes a debate with the days subject. He is humorous. All Quizes (3) which are based off questions he hands out at the end of the class with printed notes are pretty straight forward.
By far my favourite teacher at Douglas. He's funny, knowledgable, and I find his lectures very interesting (though sometimes I will admit it's confusing). I'm taking another Philosophy course just because he's teaching it.
A really amazing person, trully enjoys his job and cares about students. Don't even hesitate taking any course with him you will enjoy it for sure
Just take it It is not an easyA course, but its gonna be fine He is so kind, caring, knowledgable BUT, don't take it if you don't want to listen others' political opinions
I've taken 4 courses with David and he is one of my favourite teachers ever. He's funny and very informed. He is quite argumentative but it definitely works to keep classes interesting. I would highly recommend his classes.
David is easily one of the best profs I have had. He makes his expectations extremely clear with the detailed note packages he hands out and an online practice test before every in class test. I would recommend this class to anyone.
I love this prof. His classes are always interesting and while his tests aren't easy, they aren't too bad. Participation is important and makes the class so much better. Would highly recommend this prof to anyone interested in philosophy.
I was really nervous in taking a philosophy course because I had bad experiences with other profs and courses. But this prof really changed my mind on the discipline. He is HILARIOUS and has engaging lectures. He also gives his own notes on the textbook chapters. He answers e-mails if you have any last minute questions. 1 OF THE BEST PROFS @DOUGLAS
He provided you notes for every class and offered a very interesting view about many contemporary issues.
Amazing professor. He is the best.
Super caring professor. Hard class but he made the lectures very interesting. Great sense of humor. Tests were straight forward.
David is a super great professor, he provides you with his own notes for every chapter and all of the tests are based off of just his notes. He also gives a sample quiz before exams which are great practice. Hilarious, respectable, easy going, all around good first year prof. Would take again 100%!
THE. BEST. PROF. SO. FAR.
Wolfe's a 10/10 professor. Very smart, loves his job, genuinely nice person. He's good at making a clear distinction between the course material & his own beliefs. Also encourages you to disagree with him (if you want to), but be prepared to defend your opinions rationally. Easy to study handouts/notes for tests! Great in-class discussions. Fun!
David Wolfe is such an amazing professor who is genuinely interested in what he teaches. His lectures were thought-provoking and he always encouraged students to share their own thoughts and opinions on the topics as well. His tests were straightforward and he gives a lot of good feedback for the essays. Highly recommend!
I would repeat the course just to take his class again
can tell he truly is interested in the subject he teaches. super chill and understanding.
David is super nice and super funny. He is a fairly easy marker and the material is all actually relevant. You learn some useful life tips. Would definitely take him again.
David is a really cool instructor. Hes super laid back and is more concerned with students understanding and applying critical thinking in everyday life, rather than how well they can memorize definitions. If you participate in class and follow all of the notes he provides, youll do just fine in the class.
I enjoyed David's teaching style. He is more interested in garnering actual discussion in class, and encourages students to participate in the conversation. However, I found him fairly disingenuous. He claimed that he would not express his personal opinions on examples in class. He did that with every example, and implied his opinion was correct.
This was the most boring class I have EVER taken. His 3 hour lectures seemed like they were 6 hours long and I almost fell asleep every class. Also his second test was unbelievably hard and almost the entire class just barely passed. Although the class is easy as you only have tests and one paper, do not take this course unless you have to!
Maybe one of the best choices for 1101 (since it's a prereq for like everything). Teaches well, with relevant examples, funny exercises, fair tests and a straightforward paper. The material is dry but important to have as a skill-set. His writing is hard to read, but he gives you all the notes you need (so the textbook isn't even really necessary).
One of the only sane professors left at this school...
hard tests
I would not recommend this prof. For his exams he gives 40 questions to answer on your own time and he only puts 10 of them on the quiz worth 10 marks each so the exam is out of 100.. and also the 40 questions arent easy questions to memorize. Though I have no interest in philosophy so some may feel differently. Would not recommend at all
This class helped me improve my thinking and how to make my argument structures better He has real fun lectures with examples of class content in real life which helped understand how the class has pratical applications. As long as you show up and take the practice quizzes this course is easy to do well in. Beware the essay and make it good.
His lectures were so funny and relevant. Some of the course content is confusing but he does a great job explaining things and usually answers email right away. If the class did poorly on a test he would give out bonus marks. One class I actually looked forward to going to!
Kind, funny prof with amazing lectures, notes and exercises. Encourages class participation. Adapted well to shifting classes suddenly online. Examples in homework make me laugh.
He's calm and respectful. I recommend
David Wolfe was my favourite professor at SFU. His lectures are interesting and he keeps them light-hearted with funny comments and food for thought. He is very approachable and the tests he gives are very straightforward. However, be prepared to study for the tests because they are challenging. Wish I could take more classes with David!
David is a real stand up guy. His lectures are always interesting, he makes sure to keep the classes attention with his enthusiasm towards the course content. David always makes sure to reply to emails, and is a seemingly caring guy. He marks his tests and papers tough, so make sure you put in a lot of detail and reasoning towards your answers.
My favourite professor so far. He's sensitive to people's needs, he doesn't make you speak unless you'd like to. At this time, this was during the period of online classes, so he gave lots of polls during class, which we all loved! He's very reasonable, he looks in the strength of your argument! Like a philosophy prof should.
Dr. Dave rules! There's quite a bit of reading and a lot of thought goes into the content/lectures, but Dave makes it super engaging and fun to discuss. He's really inclusive and encourages class participation but isn't pushy. He is very attentive to emails and will do his best to answer any questions. Fair marker if you work for it. Has my vote!
I honestly didn't expect much from this course, but it was so much better than I had hoped. Although his lectures are a bit long, they are very detailed and he explains the course content very well. The examples he give in his exercises are hilarious and they really help!
He explains material very well, so buying the textbook is not mandatory if you take notes in class. The tests were a bit dense, but that reflects the content, not him. We could choose the topic of our essays, which was cool. He was easily accessible outside class and encouraged people to come to office hours.
You can get a good mark just by watching the lecture and reading the notes.
If you don't require this class, just skip it no point in ruining your GPA.
He's a great professor, probably the beast professor I've had. Relatively easy marker.
Dave is great! His lectures are long, but very interesting. The exercises he provides really help.
Very Lecture heavy, don't take this class if you like hands-on classes. He is nice, nothing bad to say about him other than the classes being boring.
I don't know if its him or the content but it was boring. He is very good at explaining things and can actually be funny. I didn't buy the textbook and I did well in his class so I would advise you not to waste your money.
can be a little boring sometimes but generally good. he hands out notes and gives lots of practice questions.
everything you could want in a professor (or a man...). seriously the best class i've taken, the content is interesting but he makes it infinitely better.
Would definitely not take this this prof terrible at teaching cannot understand his writing on board. Gets off topic, do not recommend
David makes every class enjoyable. For the test, he gives you the questions ahead of time and they are essay responses so you will memorize 30 essay responses and be asked 10 of the 30 on a test. If you pay attention in class and read the notes you will do fine.
Favourite professor so far, the topics covered were really engaging and he makes every topic really accessible by breaking it down very succinctly for you. I loved the tangents and jokes, he brings life to the classroom, which makes the college experience enjoyable and memorable. He genuinely enjoys Philosophy and I love the enthusiasm.
Very chill professor who is passionate and really preaches what he teaches. Fun classes and very lenient with grading.Highly recommend!
David is a genuine and down to earth guy. He made the manditory class interesting by selecting current hot topics in sports. His tests are very reasonable and he provides lots of feedback on the papers. I would recommend taking a class with him!
David is an easygoing, fun teacher that tries to make boring lecture material as enjoyable as possible. Super accessible outside of class and is willing to give lots of feedback. Would recommend David any day!
David Wolfe is an intelligent, charismatic, & caring professor who embodies what it means to be well-rounded. His classes were engaging, and he often used real life examples that related to the class material. This class will be invaluable when discerning flaws in the critical thinking of those we encounter on a daily basis. Thank you professor!
Great teacher for an introductory course. Classes can get boring because of the subject matter, but David does a good job keeping things interesting. Lots of opportunity for practice questions/exams. Exams are not very difficult, however you need to a thorough understanding of the subject matter to succeed.
Amazing human being. Amazing class. Very engaging, enthusiastic, great at explaining theories/concepts in a way that's comprehensible by all. Assignments & exams are very straightforward & he tells you what to expect. Provides PRINTED notes of each lecture & gives review questions to study for exams. Very understanding if you need help/extension.
For visual learners: he doesn't use slides, and the visuals he does provide are minimal compared to what you need to learn, which make it hard to solidify concepts, and requires you to do extra learning on top of the extra learning you already have to do when you're visual. The course is invaluable, take one less class to offset the extra work.
Do not take this class with David. Just talks in class for 3 hours. Doesn't respond to emails, tough marker, and the lectures are really heavy. Half of the course is based on the midterm and final exam, so 50% is based on your memory. This won't help students learn. Don't take this class. No reason to ruin your GPA. Just skip it.
For the love of God, please do not take class with David and do not let the ratings fool you. He expects you to have everything that he talks about during the 3 hours lecture and expects you to answer test questions word by word. Half of courses grading system is worth 50% of your grade. Please take it with a different teacher and AVOID HIM!
If John Stewart and Ben Stiller had a baby, but only let George Carlin raise it, that baby would turn out to be David Wolfe. Sharp, funny, and kind he is but will poke the crowd to get conversations going and people thinking. As a chronic sit in the back corner person who learns little from attending class & tunes out on my laptop, I liked class.
A very chill professor with entertaining discussions and debates. His teaching style wasn't for me personally but I can understand why he does well with students. His notes don't make sense if you don't go to lectures, so make sure to attend and listen. He doesn't assign much but his quizzes are worth A LOT, so take time to study for them.
THE BEST! He is so wonderful and truly listens to his students. He for sure knows how to run his class and make it a good experience for everyone! Make sure you do the reading before class and participate! That way you can easily get a good grade. He cares about his students.
Great prof, with the exception that he could make lectures a lot more interesting if they were more interactive. A lot of straight talking lectures.
he's so kind I was kinda scared of him at first but he's actually a really good prof who cares about his students and tries to make lectures more interesting with his examples.
Very kind and reasonable prof. Every assignment and test is more than fair, and he is very accessible outside of class. Lectures could stand to be more interactive, but overall nothing to really complain about.
David was an amazing professor for my first ever class in Philosophy. He helped taught me some important skills on how to think carefully with different reasons to be valid or not. I would take his class again and I recommend to take his Critical Thinking class.
he's nice and give a lot of examples!
