dr wood is always pretty helpful! his exams are not difficult, it's exactly what's assigned for homework. he gives ample time for completing assignments. easy course just do the homework, if not you'll be clueless!
This PROFESSOR is very good. INTERNET COURSE. Gives homework assignments(semi-hard), quiz assignments (easy), plus a semester project (semi-easy). Study the homeworks (verbatim) and quizzes (verbatim) to easily pass exams.
really good teacher, definitely take him
do NOT take course unless you have mastered algebra, not a requirement - but should be.
He is a very good teacher. Explains everything well, he tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. His tests are a little hard and there are two final projects, but overall I would recommend taking him, I got an A.
i love astronomy and wood is a great professor but some of the stuff he talked about was very confusing, maybe it was just me but who knows.
Very helpful, and very prompt with answers to any questions. Willing to do anything to make sure his students succeed, not something you see a lot with teachers. Best college experience I've had so far.
Class is not easy b/c course material is difficult, but Dr. Wood is always willing to help. Whenever I had a question I would e-mail him and most of the time he would respond within an hour. Highly recommend!
Dr. Wood is awesome. He's always there to help. If you miss a class the lectures are on his website. He always lends a helping hand and will email you back in minutes if you have questions about homework or anything. I highly recommend him. Even if you don't like science. He makes it intersting.
I hate science but Wood is great, the 3 exams are very hard, but he gives a curve and a lot of homework and take home test brings your grade up. I got 'B' when ussually I get low C's or D in science. Be prepared for homework questions, but only 1 writing assign. at the end of the year
Awesome lecturer. His PPT. presentations are very clear and he narrates and elaborates on them, often with stories and movie metaphors. Very engaging! Tests from handouts and review. I learned tons more than I thought I would, and I actually remember it! Definitely take him! One of the best!
good teacher-flexible in assignments. tests not hard-i made an easy "a" with moderate effort. dont try to fudge on the project because he will know (some students were caught cheating!) power point and lectures good-didnt like that he thought he would turn me off religion and on to evolution
This is one of the most informative, interesting classes I've ever taken. Dr. Wood presents the material in a clear and relative manner, and is very helpful. The class work is not overwhelming and Dr. Wood makes it easy for you to get material you miss. Take this class!
The best prof at sac without exception. I taken about 20 different classes and Wood is the only one who challenged me and encouraged me at the same time. Better than any nonscience course at a university. Take it with Wood at sac and transfer it. You learn more with him than at utsa.
Actually took the class with another teacher, but when I got stuck, I would visit Prof Wood. He's very clear, made me work my way through problems instead of giving answers. Super-nice guy and funny too.
Dr.Wood is a great teacher and very helpful. He understands how hard it is being a student and bases his grading on that.
Hard class for 5 weeks! Professor needed more time, but he was handcuffed by the schedule. It didn't help that some students wasted time by constantly interrupting his lectures to ask if stuff was on the test. Overall Wood is a good prof but he challenges you. Consider taking the course in Fall or Spring to spread the work out.
dr. wood is ok... he looks like uncle fester, but IS does know what he's talking about. kind of arrogant, though. i'd recommend Alaniz over Wood.
Good teacher, always willing to help...difficult class, but easy when he helps you. Definitely have an understanding for math, though!
I'm a straight-A student and this was the hardest class I ever had, but Professor Wood is the best teacher I've ever had. Never thought I'd rate a hard teacher so high, but learned so much. You learn basic science, a little bit of chemistry, physics, biology, geology, math, and a LOT of astronomy. Hard but fun. Definitely the A I'm most proud of.
He is the BEST teacher at SAC. I highly recommend He's willing to help in all aspects even if it's not the subject he's teaching, like math. He makes the class entertaining and is very laid back and understanding. Will work with you until you understand. If you miss a class, you can go to one of his other ones. I LOVED his class. He's the best.
I took his online class and he is a very great professor. He has an account on all the different messengers so if you have a question yuo can IM him, he responded quickly to e-mails as well. You have all the assignments at the begining of the semester. I would HIGHLY reccommend this professor. He will do everything yo make sure you understand.
Great teacher! I got an A in his class. He does make you work for your grades but it is a fun class.
This instructor is awesome. He is very nice, very smart, and very interesting. I definitly recommend this teacher, there is not alot of hmwk which is a huge plus. His reviews for the test are right on, study the review and you will surely make an A.
AWESOME!! i took his online course and he's EASILY the BEST prof i've had! SUPER nice, SUPER helpful, QUICK responses, fair!he'll do anything to see students succeed! turn in all hmwk and quizzes and you should do well. He grades w/curve and bases smallest % of grade on tests. so smart and VERY ENCOURAGING. available all the time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Totally not a science person at all but Dr Wood was SO encouraging. Turn in assignments and quizes on time, and start the project asap. The tests are challenging but never leave anything blank, he gives partial credit and curves. I failed the final but got an A in the class. all to my HW quizzes!
very interesting class. very helpful, great resources. he is a little too friendly with the girls in the class, so watch out girls
Took his online class, super awesome, not hard if you do all of your work and study for the tests and ASK QUESTIONS, he will always help you! never leave an answer blank! great professor
Great professor. Best i've had at sac. Loved the web page...so very helpful. Favors people in the front row and who visit office hours. Friendly to everyone...my boyfriend took the class with me and he still keeps in touch with Prof. Wood by email a year later.
me and my gf took the class together, she just wrote a review, and we loved it. Dr. Wood is a great teacher and a good guy. we highly recomend his class to everyone.
Not the easiest teacher around, but he doesn't claim to be. He promises to challenge you and he will. You will get the grade you earn. If you want an A, work very hard. I put in an average effort and got a C. Not complaining, just a fact.
He was a really great guy, and lays everything you need to know right in front of you. He is very helpful, and knows what he's talking about. Its a very focused class. And he explains everything very well.
If your looking for an easy science credit, take geology. If you want to really learn about a science, take astronomy with Wood. This was the hardest but most fun course I ever took. Someone earlier said it best, you EARN the grade you get.
Dr. Wood's internet class was great I manged to get an A but I did work extremely hard. There's about 10 quizes and 8 Homework assignments. Also 2 exams plus the final this class was very interesting and very demanding so if your looking for an easy grade this class is not for you.
Always prepared, powerpoints are awesome, homework, tests, and quizzes are always graded by next class. Always in office hours and very helpful. He tutors me in math and geology too unless there are other astrology students waiting. Smartest guy I ever met and coolest nerd EVER!!!!
Dr. Wood is awesome, attendance is mandatory because he will throw pop quizes in every once and a while but if you need to miss a class, dont sweat it, all of his material is posted online on power point and are very easy to follow. He assigns homework, but its literally straight from his power point, do the homework, and you do well on his tests
I've heard from friends in the past that he is easy, however this semester he decided to throw in his workbook which he gives about 13pgs of hmwk and a quiz every week. I could not keep up with his load of work. I took 21 hours this semester and got all A's and unfortunately a C in his.He is helpful but has no mercy as for the amount of work.
The Solar System class was awesome! Lots of pictures of planets make for a high cool factor. Dr. Wood is a fab professor. I wish he was teaching at Texas State.
Summer internet astronomy is intense. The workload is not bad when spread out over a whole semester but it's a pretty concentrated load for a summer class. I'm just thankful we have 8 weeks instead of 5. The instructor is great, but I don't recommend taking the internet class in summer unless that's the only class you have.
Professor Wood is too friendly with the female students,he stares at them too much. He's too tough with his students. He can lose his temper at times with his students. Alaniz is 100% better.
Took this class online. He was a great Prof. Always available for questions and graded almost immediatley. His online lectures (slide shows)is where most of the answers for the homework is found. Did use the book as reference. Had a great experience in his online class.
Hard class. Learned a lot of useless info about space and the universe. Good teacher though. Sit in the back if you don't want him to volunteer you to hold props for demonstrations.
I just found out earlier today that I passed Dr. Wood's class with a B. Though I found him to be somewhat difficult, he was a really great teacher nonetheless. He definitely is very educated in his field, and his lectures are pretty interesting. Plus, he has this really great site online that helps keep you up to date. Pretty awesome.
The material presented was extremely difficult to comprehend. Nevertheless, if you do good on all the hw assingnments, you should be able to pass with a good grade. I took the 50 min class, but it seemed like a TR class...boring
This teacher has very little patience if you struggle understanding math, science doing his homework assignm-ments. Doesn't like those students that don't like astronomy and those that get sick a lot and miss his classes. He can be blunt and an ogre at times.
This class and prof. are great for a science credit. loved the way he did hmwk, test and project grade. Easy A if you do your work. I learned waaay more than I expected...and retained it all too.
Dr. Wood is a wonderful instructor, i.e., prepared, organized, & enthusiastic about the topic. This is far and away the most diverse and interesting class I've taken. He has his lecture slides online, with answers to the homework, quizzes, and tests. You have to work in this course. I did and got an A.
This internet class was easy but content is very difficult. NOT an easy A class. I made a B in the class. Just do your homework and quizzes on time even if you fail 4-6. u r ok! THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! Get an A on your research and you'll be fine. Ask 4 answers on study guides b-4 test and he will give them 2 u and MEMORIZE them. 85% r on tests.
i took this class online. buy the workbook!!!! there are practice exams at the end of the book. if you study the practice exams you will get an A. very interesting class, and helpful professor.
I took the Intro Astronomy class online. Some homework is hard but if you just try he grades pretty easy. Easy to get ahead. He has a very easy to navigate website and always answers emails quickly. Use the practice exams in the study guide for exams! they are almost the same as the tests!
Use the practice tests in the back of the required workbook, because the tests are very similar to the practice tests. Do the homework! Pop quizzes make it difficult to skip class, so show up as much as possible. You may wanna take a seat in the back though cuz the prof's a little tough on the eyes.
Easy class to get an "A" in if you are willing to take good notes and complete all assaigned work. HW is 35% of your grade and you can use your book on it. Tests almost mirror his study guides.
I took the intro astronomy class online, and it was great. I only bought the textbook, not the other book that he wrote. There are a lot of assignments and quizzes, but theyre not impossible. He is very prompt in responding to questions you have and grading. Very helpful. Highly recommend for people who aren't science majors.
Take THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He is by far the best professor i have had at SAC! He is very helpful, and responded to all my e-mails really fast!I really enjoyed his class. THere are no suprises on his tests, they are almost exactly the same as the reviews!
Gr8 prof! There is no excuse for not passing his class! He offers an impressive website that has all of his lectures and homework assignments along with due dates and everything you could ever need. He is incredibly helpful and smart and generally a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Definately taking the Solar System class next semester! Can't wait!!! :
This professor gave an enormous amount of homework, but if you studied the reviews for his tests, they were almost identical! There was a project due at the end of the course that was not that difficult if you did not procrastinate! Very good communication otherwise, but it is a challenging introduction to the solar system course. Got an A-!
This teacher is too harsh with his students,he is not kind at all.I have heard he doesn't care about his students and wants you to think of his class as the most important thing in the world. Way too demanding! He is always flirting with girls. I don't think that he's got the right temper to be a teacher.
Excellent Professor! He spent over 10 hours one week online and in person helping me understand how the sun and moon and planets move. My wife is taking his class this semester and after 2 weeks, she loves the class. Thanks for a great class Dr. W!
Dr. Wood is sooooo patient! We had a kid in the class who thought he knew everything, and sometimes he was so rude to Dr. Wood. Yet it never seemed to bother Dr. Wood, who kept smiling and stayed enthusiastic.
Patient, friendly. competent. I'd take another class from him
APARENTLY HE IS GOOD IF YOU TAKE HIS CLASS SADLY I AM TAKING HIS ONLINE COURSE BECAUSE I WORK 40 HRS A WEEK FORGET TAKING HIS CLASS IF YOU ARE A BUSY PERSON AMOUNT OF MATERIAL IS EXTENSIVE AND HIS POWER POINT LECTURES ARE A DISASTER I SPEND HRS LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ONLINE AND TRYING TO TEACH MYSELF WITH THE HELP OF YOUTUBE!!! SADDDD
I am also taking this online as a working parent of 2. Dr Wood has always answered my emails or used his awesome online classroom. His ppts are unruly, but useful. He has his own published pre-test workbook, definately useful!
Dr. Wood is awesome! I wish more teachers were like him. He is very entertaining and extremely helpful. He offers extra tidbits of information for those who are really interested. If you pay attention in class he gives the answer in his lectures for every question he asks! I think his PPoints are very good. I would definitely take ANY class with hi
Took him twice online & it is not easy in the beginning. HW is long and he is not going to just let you slide w/an answer 1/2 right. I think it pains him to give an "A" but he will. Just know it takes MAJOR effort. Project is easy as long as you don't put it off too long. Test are almost exactly like reviews. Not an easy "A" but interesting subject
I took his Solar Systems class. He is super easy! He has everything online! I would recommend him! His quizzes really are pop quizzes but if you just read ahead you'll do great. Take good notes before you come to class. It's much easier to ask him prepared questions!
If you have a passion for the stars and planets, he will give you a deeper appreciation for the topic.
Really good teacher. Responds to email quickly. When asking a question, he may not give you a direct answer, he makes you think until you get the answer. Semester project is hard, so do not put it off. Is pasionate about the subject. Overall, if you like astronomy, or just need a science credit, take from him.
Took class online. It is a lot of work but very doable. I made an A and I work FT and took 3 other classes. An A is achievable if you put in the effort but it will not be handed to you. He's extremely helpful and reviews are great preparation for tests. Definitely recommend him.
An EXCELLENT Prof.!!! I already had a B.S. when I took this course so I've had many prof's and this one is exceptional. Very knowledgable and engaging when he lectures. However, don't take this class if you expect and easy A! He does expect you to work for your grade-as should all prof's-and is more than fair on his grading process.
Very hard class, will require a great deal of time to be sucessfull. Good thing is that Dr. Wood is very helpful, he will give you lots of his time. He is very helpful and will not talk down to you.
Best Prof ever! Material is difficult / expect hard work, but also expect great satisfaction! Dr Wood is a fantastic professor... helpful, kind, and fun too. Grades papers lightning fast! Excellent class to take online since Dr Wood responds to emails faster than the speed of light ;-)
This professor is super cool! He does lectures so make sure you take note of the things he repeats, not everything is on the powerpoints. Easy quizes bump your grade up, and he is very helpful when you ask for it. I would totally recommend him. :) Make sure you can listen and pay attention, reading is not crucial but it helps!!
Took online course. Lots of reading and work, but Prof Wood is VERY helpful. Grades homework/quizzes and responds to emails quickly. Online lectures/sample tests help immensely with Tests. Would take this professor again!
I took this course with him online..There is ALOT of reading and work that is VERY difficult. He is very helpful and quick to respond. His practice tests mirror his actual test ( a few different problems). He expects hard work and will not hand you an A. He curves your grade. based on the highest score.
Awesome professor! Took his online solar system course and it was super easy! Exam questions are basically straight from the exam reviews. Make sure you do them! Definitely would take him again!
Dr.Wood is really great. It was my first time taking an online course and he helped me all the way. I recommend him for sure!
Pretty tough but awesome professor. You can tell he loves what he does. Not an easy class by any means and he's not one to just give you a grade. You definitely get the grade based on how much work you put into the class but he will help whenever you need it as long as you ask! I learned a lot this semester and glad he was my professor!
Horrible teacher, if you have time and you could do any assignment on you own then you are welcome to take this professor.
Not a good teacher but very helpful
Really a tough teacher, too long lectures and very hard tests and have to read more than i expected. Horriable teacher- dont take this prof.
OK., this is a tough class especially in a Flex session, but the professor warned us of that in his orientation email. If you budget your time, this is an excellent course. He is very helpful, especially in his online office hours. Do not expect to just look up answers. He challenges you to think. If you want to learn astronomy, take him!
took this class online- Very helpful but tough prof. ever. tests are very hard and long.
Easy A. Textbook not required. All the homework and exams are given ahead of time so download them and bring them to class, makes the homework easier since the questions are straight from what he says. Quizzes are mostly straight from the homework. Easy grader. Great teacher. Knowledgeable. I would take him again and I highly recommend.
There are about 2-3 tests (including final exam). I hardly ever used the book, but he does assign a lot of home works, all are on online already, so are all the powerpoints, and he has recordings of his lectures there too. All the answers for HWs are in the powerpoints. Your answers have to be correct to get credit.
Really good Teacher but keep up with the homework and do good on the exam you'll be okay. No book needed :D!
Awesome professor, easy just pay attention and minimal notes. homework is easy, and great feedback.
Dr. Wood is a brilliant teacher, hard but brilliant. The online class says the online lectures are optional so let me clarify: Watch them or you won't have a chance of passing. He will help you and responds to emails in record time. Oh, don't plagerize from the internet, the answers are wrong, so don't waste his time. Study and you'll be fine.
I took this class online as a flex, and it was the hardest class i've had. Definitely would not recommend it online, or as a flex, but he is a great teacher, always available, and gives great feedback. He will know if you plagiarize because his material is so custom made, so don't. Offers extra credit at the end that helped me move from a B to an A
I took his class online as a flex and it is a lot of work. Must read 1-2 chapters a week + online lectures and slides. Assigns 3 assignments a weeks + group project. You can tell he's passionate and he knows what he's doing. ALOT of reading. If you have time, take the class. Not easy
Took Flex online, NOT AN EASY CLASS! Homework and quizzes every few days. Homework and exams are long! I had a 4.0 my entire college career, I received my first B. Great teacher, he knows his stuff.
He is an EXTREMELY tough professor. This class was so hard! everything I put felt like I was off by one or two words. Must be EXACT with your answers and how he wants them.
Taking his face-to-face solar system lecture class. He is a very effective lecturer! Gives lots of helpful analogies to understand. There's a good amount of homework, all online, but it's not impossible! You can re-attempt questions for partial credit. There's an ongoing group project, not too hard. He is VERY specific on test and quiz answers!!
He is the toughest grader I've had soo far, especially with exams, the open ended answers must be the exact answer even if it says in "your own words" the definition must be exact which threw me off. You have group projects which the first one was highly confusing not much direction given. I do not recommend him for any online classes.
If you listen to his powerpoint lectures and READ the syllabus, you will easily pass with an A or B. If you don't put time/effort into this class, you will get a C or D. The only way to fail is not tun in assignments. Group project is easier than it looks. Essay questions don't require exact wording but you do have to answer the questions he asks.
Great prof! Learned much more than in my NVC astro class. All lectures streamed online. Powerpoint slides slightly different from videos due to updates. All work completed online. Must budget your time, but easy class if you do the work. Took his online class, but went to office hours on campus. Very helpful. Also, he gives weekly email updates.
Very very good person he is a fair man and give you time to do the work it is hard class but only if you make it hard overall a good professor to have
Professor Wood is alright. He really makes you work for the grade. There's a lot of math involved such as equations and entails of having to put in a lot of effort. It's not extremely difficult, but it is very time consuming. You can wing it by doing all of the assignments using the powerpoints, but don't be late or miss any of them.
The class was okay just a lot of work, the professor was nice but would not recommend if you're a procrastinator or have a busy schedule because the amount of work is ridiculous also never had to use my textbook for his online class since he provides power points.
Wouldn't recommend if you like taking THREE major finals in one semester and like spending 2-3 hours. Also, there's a lot of questions. Your final consists of 64 questions and I spent so much time stressing. Also I didn't get how we had to do group work for an online class?! You also have lots of homework and quizzes and notes are WAY too long.
Excellent class. All his lectures are on video. You have to put in time and effort but if you do the homework, watch the lectures, and its an easy A. I spent about 10 hours a week on the class which isnt bad.
Grades fairly. 8-week class- lots of work each week. Watch all the lectures or you will fall behind. Very accessible and gives lots of feedback. Try and you will do well. Gave me a 100 final grade- instead of my 92- with a curve. The group project takes up a good amount of time, but helps you learn and apply the information. Loves teaching.
Dr. Wood was very helpful throughout my online course, I took a wintermester course so it was only 3 weeks. Everyday he would email us a daily update which really helped explain things the class may have struggled with, the feedback provided on homework quizes helped tremendously, and Dr. Wood was very quick to respond even through the holidays.
Took him last semester. Was a little worried to take an astronomy class because I was already taking 5 classes. Lectures are available online so it's accessible anytime. Plus, the material is pretty interesting. It's an easy class. I do recommend playing the lectures at 1.5x speed or faster if you get bored easily. Final grade was 102 w/ extra cred
Literally do NOT take this class! Trust me, I'm saving you so much stress with this recommendation! This man is the toughest grader I've ever known. Doesn't really offer any help when you ask, just says, "it's in the lectures." Which by the way, are like 3hrs long! No joke, whole semester had NO clue what was going on!
This course is great! Do your work and put time in to study and you will get an A. Professor Wood lays out his tests based on the quizzes and textbook material, so If you study the textbook and work hard to get the quizzes right (several attempts allowed), you will do very well on the tests. Couldn't have asked for a better online course.
I would not recommend Dr. Wood. Not very understanding, I got sick with Covid and asked for one extra day for the first time to turn in assignment and never replied till next day. His grading is very difficult to understand. Will not work with you on due dates if sick.
Easy to pass the class if you follow a simple formula: watch video lectures, read chapters, do practice quizzes/exams, and visit office hours. He is super nice and very helpful. Group project looks harder than it actually is. If you post answers and reply to teammates, you will score high. He grades participation not correct answers.
Prof. Wood was a good prof over all. Lots of reading in the textbook and listening to hour long lectures. The textbook is written by him. Homework was based on the textbook quizzes and you have 3 attempts so they were pretty easy. The practice exams are very helpful. The group project is difficult but as long as you make an effort, you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!!! I can not stress this enough! He was not very helpful, and when I went on a zoom with him, I felt as if he talked to me like I should know what I'm doing. However, the "lecture" (if you could call it that) was NOT helpful in any aspect of this course. I tried my best and still got a bad grade.....
Great professor!! Lots of office hours during the day and at night. I went in person and online. Always nice and helpful. Wish I started early in the semester. I would of got an A cause I got off to a real bad start before going to him. Easy way to pass and get a good grade is to put time in to read book and watch lectures. Do the practice exams!
Had him as an adjunct professor at Trinity for my Astronomy Lab. Amazing guy! Really gives helpful feedback and poses great questions. Very good at guiding students through lab activities and is clearly very passionate about what he does. Seemed to inspire all of my fellow classmates, and for good reason. Always considerate and forgiving!
Mr. Wood is a tough grader and needs to lighten up on things. I thought learning about astronomy would be fun, but he does not make it fun. More stressed about my grade than actually learning #annoyed
I was ready to give this professor a bad review. A week before the final test I thought I had a C in the class. I am scared to see professors but I finally decided to go to his Zoom. He was super nice and told me I was really at a B. He stayed 2 hours past his office hours which ended at 10 pm to help me. I did great on the final and group project.
Professor Wood is a knowledgeable and committed teacher. The class requires consistent effort, but he provides excellent resources like video lectures and a helpful textbook. Using Unstuck AI alongside the other study tools really helped me stay on top of the material.
If you don't mind reading then take him but it is a lot of information to take in. The only good thing is that you have 3 attempts for your quizzes but he WILL know if you are cheating. There is also a group project the whole course so be prepared for that too
Thought this class would be like a biology class where you learn about the different stars and matter (which it was), but then you also had to do some calculations. Not fun at all! There is a group project, so be prepared for that. Cool professor, though, just would not want to take this class again.
