Extremely knowledgeable. Good supporting website, TONS of reading. Decent tests, no surprises, great human being.
this professor will be your favorite of them all.
Great Professor got interested in the Middle East and his knowledge of that region. He is a favorite and very liked by others in his classes. Simple awesome in the way of teaching and how he brings the material to those that haven’t a clue about the history or the region. Always their for those that
started out a very interesting class. however he always stands behind the podium. making class sometimes boring. he does know the information very well, however his final exam was weighted WAY too heavily at 40%. that's insane. he also said it would NOT be cumulative, it was. he was also rude.
Knows a lot of stuffs but can be boring at times. Interesting group work activity though.
I didn't take a class with him, but heard a lecture. The guy knows his business, and this comes from someone who knows the ME/Balkans/Caucasus well...
I took this class not knowing what to expect and learned more about Islam and Iran and the middle east than i thought i could from 1 class. His lectures are interesting but there is alot to read.
Most interesting class I ever had.
Sometimes interesting but usually very boring. He's also kind of confusing to listen to and his tests are way harder than they need to be.

He's hella boring. Knows his stuff though.
He seems like a cool guy-knows his stuff. Sometime boring, but the information is worth listening to. There's no way anyone should fail because he's so clear. Very interesting class to take.
Makes class more difficult than it needs to be. Tests are very difficult. He is the type of professor that trys to manipulate students into understanding and following his beliefs on things especailly politics
Way easy if you do the reading. Cool films. Lectures aren't too bad either.
Class was fascinating. He gives handouts with the essay questions and ID's in advance so there are no surprises. Lets you use your notes on quizzes. Lots of reading though, but most of it is intreresting. Good class website.
Nice guy. You can tell he cares about his student's. Tons of info but very clear and helpful.
Not bad for a G.E. course. At least he tries to make it interesting.
Okay honestly this was the hardest class I have ever taken I am a senior and this is a freshman class! I have never been expected to memorize so much! the midterms are not to bad but the final watch out ! it is 40% of your grade and I think everyone thinks they failed it. it was SO HARD..DON'T TAKE HIM
I just took this class and I agree, its totally easy, and I didn't even attend all the classes! Just do the reading and study the stuff on the Web site and u will pass no problem.
The person from 12/7 needs to drop out of college because they are retarded. This class was very easy. Not the easiest, but not at all hard. Follow directions, put in the time, and you'll ace it like me. 12/7 just thought they were going to coast through a 100-level course and got burned. Just wait until they get a real job and see what work is.
Nice guy. Lectures are kinda' boring but he doesn't take roll. If you don't go just make sure to read and you'll be fine. It's not the easiest class in the world but with some effort you'll learn a lot and pass the class.
Is the greatest teacher I've had. He knows his material well and is able to represent the subject matter clear and unbias. You get to see the issues from different points of view. He is always willing to help. Very smart and you will learn a lot in his class. You do have to read but it's not that much, you WON'T regret taking his class.
Extremely informative class. He presented the material as objectively as possible, and the book was an excellent source of information. The book is dense, however, and there is a lot of outside reading. He lets you know EVERYTHING that will be on the pop quizzes and tests. I took this class for fun, and I strongly recommend it.
Arab-Israeli Conflict. The BEST history class I have ever taken. Provides an unbiased view of the conflicts in the middle east that will blow your mind. A bit of reading is involved, not too much homework. Tells you exactly what to study for exams and quizes. If you are extremely opinionated/religious, you may not be able to sit through this class.

You would have to try hard to fail this class! Good films and discussion.
He is an awesome professor! He knows his material very well and is passionate about the subject that it makes his lecture enjoyable.
The best teacher I have had in my life. Knows his stuff and explains it in a way that makes you not want him to stop. He isn't full of himself nor is he biased toward one point of view. The most objective and engaging class I have ever attended.
Very passionate and into history. Open minded, not biased. A lot of reading, but gives a great study guide for midterm/ final. Very interesting class & lectures.. never missed a lecture! He's awesome
While I will say that I immensely enjoyed this class (as well as the films and lectures), I was very disappointed in his final exam. I think it was too difficult and the material too complex for a cumulative exam. He told us that if we studied the on-line quizzes that we would be fine; however, the material was much more complex and didn't reflect
The week we lost to fires threw everything off so I didn't get my second test back until the last day! Still, this class is hella easy. Just come to class (or get notes from a friend), read the book, and you'll get an A.
Easy class. Easy mid-terms. Easy map-quizzes. Easy term-paper topics. Easy cumulative final. Take the class, especially if you are not a history major. I got an A!!!:D
He is the worst teacher I have ever had.My laptop crashed and I lost the topics for the second paper, & he wouldn't even answer the first email so I had to again, & he said I was screwed pretty much. That my laptop shouldn't have crashed. The tests are hard and he has the worst teaching approach.Rambles a lot & doesn't tell you what is on the test
Interesting class!Great lecturer, uses movies to enhance topic. Go to class and you'll do great. Don't be late, listen to instructions, and he will have a great attitude. Idiots frustrate everyone.
Disregard negative comments. If you don't pass the class with a B or better, there is something wrong with you. The midterms are easy; he tells you what to study. The class is boring, but watching movies/videos eases the boredom. He is VERY passionate about his teaching and that makes it all the better. Passed the class with an A-; didn't read.
Eventhough he is not an easy professor, he is perhaps the best history professor I've ever had. He knows his material to the core and it helps that he is also in my opinion a very attractive man.
Way out in front of every other professor on campus as the nicest and easiest. Me and my roommate who is a real fool agree on this and we both got As by only going to class and never reading anythin.
Read the books over and over and you should be fine. Class is interesting, but it moves pretty fast. The mid/final aren't bad because he gives you what you need to study--but you really need to know your stuff. He is a little bias and will re-act if he disagrees with your point of view. Still one of the better professors on campus.
Goes on and talks about stuff that isn't even on the test and the stuff he does test us on he doesn't even teach us.
Professor Y knows his stuff. After each lecture I felt smarter than I did when I first entered the classroom, but it is not an easy class. Read all assigned works and try to stay on top of the identifications, because it could be little stressful trying to remember all those "Dates." Take him.
Amazing class. Learned a lot. He is so knowledgeable about the subject and so into it. Teaching style is great. Lectures and movies. Attendance is mandatory. He can get kind of anal about the reading so try and keep up. Quizes about every other week, he will let you know when they are. 2 including about 5 ids and 1 long essay
He is a very knowledgeabe professor
I am not a history person and taking this class at 8 am did not help my enthusiasm in this class, but he is not a bad teacher. He is very knowledgeable and earning about the GREEKS and ROMANS was great. The book is useful in studying the ID terms and its good to go to class to get the IDs for the test
Professor Yaghoubian is a great teacher. He teaches a lot and has good text books for the class. You do have to work really hard in this class though if you want a decent grade. Even if you don't get an A though, you walk away learning a lot.
The easiest and hotest professor I have ever had. I never did the readings and aced everything. Dr. Y is easy on the eyes and super easy.
Class consist of lecture & films. You must read all chpt to pass 3 exams and map quizzes. Map quizzes are surprise so you must attend class. He doesn't use email, difficult to contact. You learn more from the book then from him. Ok guy, very arrogant.
The only way ur passing his tests are if u read the book and do an awesome ID card. If u do that the test are REALLY easy.Use online resources, they really help!Go to class since he basically gives u all the ID info.U have one paper but its easy.Hes really funny so it helps since his class is at 8am :(
Great knowledge and passion on what he is teaching in the class. I took his class and never read the book, except in searching up items on the study guides, and passed with an A. He does require tons of reading everyweek. It is a great class and he keeps the class interesting!
He's super nice and super enthusiastic about his job. He has a lot of knowledge in what he is teaching and knows how to teach it in a way that is clear for the class. He let's you have cheat sheets on the tests and as long as you bring a cheat sheet, you'll pass the class.
I loooove Goob!!!! He is hands down my favorite professor. Soo smart, helpful, funny and he characterizes everything so it isn't boring! If its possible take him! I pray that he never retires and if he does he better clone himself or start training an undergraduate now to become Goob 2!
His knowledge about Middle East is seemingly infinite. His lectures are incredibly full of information made vivid. However, the great downside is that he has a shallow view of America. Defending America for him is just defending baseball and apple pie. How foolish. The spirit of America is in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
he needs to get out his feelings so much and actually take the time to give us students more info for the assignments he give.
This man is very smart and passionate about the subject he teaches, but he is also very full of himself. He rambles during his lectures and if you can't keep up, oh well, that's on you, not him. Unfortunately, he's the only guy whoeaches Middle East History classes at CSUSB, so you're stuck with him.
This professor is very passionate and intelligent. However, he is very cocky and talks way too fast. He does not like to repeat himself nor does he like to give correct spelling. I enjoyed the content, however, if I could have taken another professor I would have.
This class is extremely boring and I would not recommend taking this class with this teacher. He is boring and just talks the entire class period. Must read book if you want to pass. I would avoid this class if I was you
Professor Yaghoubian knows his stuff. He is easy if your willing to put the work into the class. He has no problem helping the students, if they make it an effort to come see him during his office hours, especially concerning the paper you need to write and tests. I found him to be clear, and if needed I asked for clarification.
The best professor at CSUSB. I look forward to taking him next quarter in 594. Take him every chance you get! Super passionate and hilarious. I learned so much!
I am so happy to have been able to take this professor's class. He is really amazing. I learned a lot. And he's cute too!
Professor Yaghoubian did his best to make this class interesting. He shows many videos that go along with his lecture. What makes it boring is just that some topics are more interesting than others. He says this is an easy A but you NEED to read the book and go to class! If you read and pay attention you should be fine.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but you're foolish if you don't attend. His lectures are intense and you better like taking notes. His Exams are tough, even the one that's take-home. Quizzes are sporadic. Just in case you don't do well on quizzes or tests, attend class and engage in discussions, for participation is 10% of class grade. It helps!
All the answers are in the class, sometimes the reading wasnt necessary but it would help understand more what is going on in class.
Half of the class, he lectures , and other half, he plays videos(pay att.) He gives out key terms in the beginning of every lecture, which he defines during the lecture, so pay attention. If you want to get an A in his class, I recommend you get the books bc they'll help you out a lot for the tests. Grade is based on 2 midterms, 1 essay, & final.
He is a clear professor and demands things early on. Best tips i can give you is to read the main book and complete the study guides ahead of time. His shortcomings come from a lack of an online presence and scrutinizes questions that he does not see are important enough. Apart from that, teacher is passionate about course.
Yaghoubian is a great guy outside of class. In class he expects the best, especially in 494. The reading is VERY heavy. Participation is 50% of final grade so it is required. Minimal work aside from that. Very challenging, but also very refreshing. He is passionate about his subject and incredibly knowledgeable. Skip him if you don't have the time.
Easiest class ever. He says you will need the books, I bought them both and opened them once or twice. He lectures for most classes, and for some he just shows video clips that can be found on YouTube. Does not grade harshly.
Yaghoubian is my favorite professor I've ever had-- he's smart as hell, passionate, entertaining, and has seriously forced me to think.. better. For anyone curious about geopolitics and/or oil history: take this class. Immerse yourself in the (only) book, and you'll pass. He will make you into a smarter and better human being seemingly by osmosis.
He's a good professor but his lectures are long and most of the times boring. I recommend going to class since he doesn't put anything on blackboard. He won't let you use any electronics so you'll be writing notes by hand. There's two midterms, a four page paper, and a final.
Dr. Yaghoubian is an amazing professor, he is so passionate about history and overall educating students on any history. He wants you to care about your education & won't take slack. His lectures are informational and his tests aren't hard but aren't an easy A either.
Yaghoubian exams are tough, reading is a must, 2 midterms, essay and final. Lectures were interesting and he shows a lot of informative videos. attendance is not mandatory, but is necessary.
Great teacher! Passionate and interesting. Show up to class, take notes, read you chapters and there will be no reason you won't pass. I got an A in his class, while taking 3 other classes and I have a job and a child.... so, yea.
He definitely knew his stuff, but his lectures were so dry. He also was rude at some points. You can pass the class if you work for it. His main thing is that there are the lectures where he talks and then there are movies that he will show and there will be questions on the midterm and final from the movies.
Professor Yaghoubian is a fantastic teacher who really keeps things interesting. He made history come alive in his lectures, and I walked out of class every day with a better understanding of human civilization. Would gladly take another class with him!
One of the best professors I have taken at CSUSB. He is passionate and smart! If you show up to class, do the actual readings (In the text) you will pass! I only used one of the two books to study (TE not HR) and I got an A in his class. 2 midterms 1 final 1 easy paper. He curves and offers extra credit on tests!
He does not use blackboard which makes it hard to get in contact with him. I asked him a question and he was very rude to me and made me feel dumb for getting the wrong version of a book. Makes you buy two books speaks to low for the class to hear. A lot of reading and if you do badly on a test or paper you get a bad grade. Avoid this man.
One of the best professors i've taken at csusb so far... just make sure to go to every lecture as he doesn't use blackboard and its easy to fall behind. He gives extra credit on the test and if you go to class, pay attention, take notes and study there should be no reason you dont get an A :)
This was the easiest class I took. Three multiple choice exams and a paper. He shows some cool films to break up the monotony but its still gets boring.
Professor yaghoubian is awesome, he's really passionate about what he's teaching. If you pay attention in class and study the usual amount he makes sure you're prepared for any tests and quizzes he gives. I truly enjoyed his class, and looked forward to going. However I did get a little sleepy as some videos put me to sleep, but otherwise, awesome.
He is a good professor but it is hard to know your grade in the class he does not use blackboard. But just show up to class and take notes and listen and you will do fine. There is extra credit available on the test we take. We took two quizzes and 2 midterms and 1 final exam.
I've had Professor Yaghoubian a few times and he is amazing. I would say attendance is mandatory because he is lecture heavy, no power-points and doesn't use blackboard. He's passionate about the subject and very energetic. I've learned so much from him but he is very serious so NO messing around in class. Highly recommend.
This is a professor who legitimately cares about what he teaches. You will have to work for it, but it's well worth the work if the subject interests you. My class had weekly summaries of readings and two papers. Books were inexpensive, attendance is mandatory, and there is A LOT of reading.
Professor Yaghoubian is a great teacher! He had a clear syllabus that allowed us to plan out our whole semester. It is quite a bit of reading but if the topic interests you it goes by quick.
Yaghoubian dose not use powepoint or anything like that so you have to write down what he says when he lectures. He gives 5 short quizzes, a midterm and final that are take home but you can only use the textbooks or your notes on and one paper where you can only use the books or your notes as well. For that reason he is also big on plagiarism.
This professor should be avoided at all costs. As I took his History 3840, He is a rude person when you ask a ? Has 5 short precis, 2 midterm and final. He will count against you if contents in exams not properly referenced/cited from textbook, he is HUGE on plagiarism. Sending an email you fail the class entirely and reports it to the higher ups.
I have never rated a professor before, since I have largely found something to enjoy in each, this professor is different. His class work is heavy, with essays that end up being more busywork. His lectures are just rants and he has a very strict no tech rule meaning if you take notes with your computer he will call you out and stop the class.
Yaghoubian is an amazing professor! He will make you work for your grade but you'll be more prepared for upper division classes. He is strict but don't be scared as he is very clear about how he grades; nothing is left for interpretation. If your a History major his classes will help you succeed.
If you are a history major, then I highly suggest taking Dr.Yaghoubian. He is deeply passionate about history, you will appreciate as a history major. He is attendance & lecture heavy, also requires notes on key terms that you can use on pop quizzes. He is also a fair grader, if you do the readings and take notes you will pass without a problem.
There is a lot of reading but he uses it on his quizzes. He gives all the study guides for the midterms and final. Definitely is passionate about Middle Eastern history and knows his stuff. His lectures are very informative and really puts things into perspective. Just make write to do the readings and not fall behind.
He grades on quizzes based on the video for the module, discussion posts, and exams for each module. At times, you can be expected to read over 100 pages a week. His class took up the most of my time during the semester I took him. I would only recommend him if you are taking less than 12 units.
Professor Yaghoubian is a great professor and I'm glad I didn't drop the class because it ended up being my favorite class that I've taken. Attendance IS mandatory and there are 3 big tests and multiple little open note quizzes. He's lecture heavy but the lectures are actually very interesting and makes you want to learn more on your own time.
The one with the Russia obsession
Fanatical about zero tolerance policy concerning plagiarism to the point of harassment. I had a zero similarity report for my exam, but because I included the birth and death dates of an historical ID, he threatened to report me for plagiarism if I didn't drop the class. He berated me before I even got a chance to talk during office hours. Insane.
Professor Y is an exceptional professor. I truly enjoyed his class. It was focused around lectures and he did not use any powerpoint. He is truly passionate about the subject he teaches. He can be a tough grader when it comes to exams but study as much as you can. He does not tolerate any cheating but there is no reason to use ai in his classes.
Yaghoubian brings his personal biased politics into every classroom. He uses very inappropriate language. He is always angry and irrational. Reading assignments are excellent. Grading is very fair but he th
The readings were interesting and his grading is pretty much easy. If he wasn't so angry, weird and paranoid about the whole world and stopped being so obsessed with catching people with plagiarism I would take him again because I really like the subjects he teaches on. Really good reading assignments and when he stays on topic he is good.
Best professor at CSUSB! Fascinating course. Challenging but very clear and fair. Recommended.
Prof. Yaghoubian is an overall good history teacher who discusses topics in an understandable way. He grades fairly and is approachable, making him easy to talk to. Sometimes, he may go on brief tangents about Islam or current-day politics that are unrelated to the course material, but it doesn't take away much from the learning experience. 4/5
Do not take him for this class, he forces you to pick a topic around middle eastern history. He says you have to break a topic down into something that hasn't been written about before. He is overall just not helpful and this was just a stressful class. Do yourself a favor and take any other professor. He himself tells you this will suck.
Yaghoubian runs a challenging course, but engagement pays off. Lots of reading, but the workload is manageable. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for quiz prep. Recommended if you're a focused history student.
This was the worst class I ever took and it was because this teacher is irrational, unorganized, has a wild temper and offered zero teaching. I heard from friends he is basically the worst history professor at CSUSB but I needed the course to graduate and surprise surprise he was the only one with an open seat. Glad it's over and I graduated.
I took this class for a requirement and ended up liking it. Professor was organized and knows the knowledge for teaching it. We got “exam jubilee” to help our scores and he gives extra credit too. Would take again if I had to.
Yaghoubian is a great professor, he is passionate about history and for teaching students about history. He cares about your education and stays on the point. Two midterms and a take/home final, with IDs and essays. Also film quizzes are multiple choice.
Lowk got a B and never bought the books. Just the online chapter outlines and lectures. Easy extra credit paper was easy.
I had him for the first time with 5840. He is not as bad as many people around the hist. dep. make him out to be. His class is a lot of work at first but you can adapt fast when you use the pre reading techniques he suggests. The best thing I did was come into the class with an open mind and avoiding any media that would be biased.
Professor Y. really knows what he's teaching and has a strong passion towards the subject. Sometimes he did get carried away and fell behind the syllabus since he took lots of time on one specific topic. Class helps clarify questions but all test information comes from the books. Really focus your time on that. Extra credit is offered as it's easy.
