I heard he is easy for MAT 124 but do not take him for Finite math
his tests are good, not to hard. and oh ya the big red thing on the side of his head is hot!

he sucks. he goes into detail on stupid stuff that isn't realted to the material. Tests are not hard but not all that easy either. studying with a tutor would be a good help. no use in going to class cause you'd just fall asleep. hes too clueless to teach
Really good course...he explained stuff well!!!! I would definitely take one of his classes again!! Funny guy!!!!
His homework was very hard. The final was not covered nor did it relate to the material. Tests were also hard and long.
I had to drop the class, he gives hmwk every class and does not go over it. moves through the topics very quickly. teaching was very unclear
Great class to take for 181 and 132. Would take his classes again. Explained difficult material in an easy to understand manner!!
Pretty cool for a math class...would take one of his classes again if I need a math credit... do your homework and you'll do well.
great class....easily understood
Condescending as hell and does not cover material very well. His ability to explain mathematics is far below his ablity to do mathematics.
I though that he was a GREAT teacher! very helpful, he was funny too, i think is is great at explaining a lot of the formulas and stuff!!!
If you do your homework everyday you will do fine he basically takes the test from that material. Don't let his sense of humor fool you,he may be funny but his test won't. Study.
i didnt really enjoy being in his class becuase it was really tough for me i am a really good student and i love math but when i got to his class he was so bad that i hated math he is the worst teacher i ever had for math.
Wow, this teacher drinks so much coffee. He always jitters in class. I think he has a sarcastic sense of humor. But to tell you the truth, he is a good teacher. I had learned a lot in class. It's quite hard in some poins. You really need to practice and do your homework or else you would fail. He's test are hard but if you listen. you'll be fine.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had! He doesn't explain ANYHTING, and makes no sense. He was so frustrating, I switched teachers, luckily I got a good one, Roldan. He has absolutely NO teaching skills whatsoever. BEWARE!!!!!
HE acts kind of funny but his tests are NOT! Tests are your grade and are very difficult. Must study very hard to pass this class
I had him for math 96, and you have to study really hard to pass because his tests determine your grade overall in the class, however, he gives you a break and drops the lowest test score he acts like forest gump and sometimes makes you laugh because hes kind of guffy but overall he is a smart man and explains the material step by step
He was a great professor, he was vary clear and at times made the whole class crack up.his tests were clear and simple and they even gave hints to solving the problems, he was fun and funny.
I got an "A" in his class! I never got an "A" in Math while in high school. It's been a long time since i've taken algebra (been a single parent and career woman for the last 5 years) so to be able to be successful and actually learn in his class was great! Finley explains things to the "T" and he'll teach you in a way where you'll understand it
Extremely hard to understand. She gets so focused on her self-made textbook that even though there are errors, she doesn't acknowledge any challenge to its integrity. Also, she will only accept work on quizzes that is done how she does it, correctly solving a problem any other way is only worth half-credit. Good luck if you are stuck with her.
I took this class on line and did ok. Mr. Finley was very helpful and quick to respond. If I wasn't clear on something, he would make it clear using examples that I could understand.
Took class online. Only pain was that we had to turn in homework. So we had to scan it or take a picture of it.. But overall not bad if you need this pre-req math course..
Great guy and funny too. He's a genius at mathematics: taking the root of a number in the thousands in his head and getting it right to several decimals. Anyway, there's homework but it doesn't count. Daily quizzes (1-6 questions) and 3 exams make up your grade. Heavy focus on algebra in the class I took. Great class and I *highly* recommend him :)
Extremly useless for comments back is taking over a week to get a question responded via e-mail for an online course. We have to scan or take a photo of our homework which takes all day!!! Only things graded are exams so good luck. The only way I am surviving is from my husband being my tutor. Take another professor to learn something
Took class online. We were assigned homework-which we had to turn in either by scanning it, or taking a picture-that was the only pain with the class. Tests and quizzes were easy. Easy A if you can do a math class online.
Nice guy, and he knows what he's doing, but unfortunately he can't seem to explain things well. Jumps all over the place with the day's lesson, and sometimes doesn't have time to cover what is needed on the homework because of him jumping around. We don't even use the book whatsoever, and he doesn't fully explain what he's doing.
He's alright...if you are one that doesn't like to attend class nor do the hmwk and just come on the days of exams, you are all set. :) Just be sure that you are good on learning the material on your own, otherwise, it's a simple A, only cover between 4-5 chapters the whole semester...the rest is for Math 127.
ok! this is calculus 2 and students are hopefully grown up now. explains very well using hard examples, homework from the text book is a little less harder and the tests are fair. no tricks! attend class all the time and you will learn. this guy is smart and he knows what he is teaching. shows respect for the students and he is funny!
Very good teacher. Would recommend to anybody for math. Funny and explains things very clearly. But he may have a problem with banging his head on the wall and sometimes he shows up to class with cuts? But hes a math genius and I got a 100% in his math 126 class. Just do the homework and study and youll be fine
He is funny as hell, and bangs his head on the wall pretty often, and I think he is a little retarded. You cant help but stare at that big red thing on the side of his head, and the way he slams his feet on the ground is extremely distracting. He is a good teacher, and teaches well. He's funny, and makes class a good time :] TAKE ITTT! haha.
Really easy teacher. Attendance is not mandatory so only half of his students show up during lectures. Can't understand his jokes a lot of times though. If you need special help, go get it. He is not the type to realize it on his own, but gladly do so.
he is really great. he explains the lesson very well. if you have questions about something, he always has the time to fully explain it. great teacher! i would like to take him for calculus but he doesn't teach it. oh wel. great great great!
The worst professor that I have ever had... He doesn't know the meaning of the word HELP. He doesn't like international student.
The worst professor that I have ever had. He doesn't know the meaning of the word HELP. He doesn't like international student.
HE TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN ANY QUESTIONS THE CLASS HAD. ATTENDANCE ISN'T MANDATORY. HE ONLY GIVES 2 EXAMS AND HOMEWORK. SO IF YOU BOMB YOUR MIDTERM DON'T EXPECT TO PASS THE CLASS. BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO HELP BALANCE THAT GRADE OUT. NO QUIZZES, NOTHING! BESIDES THAT.. HE'S REALLY FUNNY! VERY ENTERTAINING!
Don't take his class!!! Terrible professor and his classes are not funny. A lot of homework and only two HARD exams. Not easy A.
OK PROFESSOR, NOT FUNNY, HES AKWARD. DOES EXPLAIN MATERIAL IN A LEARNING MANNER, NOT LATE. GAVE HW EVERY CLASS!!! IF YOU FAIL OR DO BAD ON THE ONLY TWO TESTS HE GIVES, YOU JUST MIGHT FAIL. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! !!!
Great professor. Explains the days lessons using a few examples and is willing to help students whenever asked. He stayed after class with me on more than one occasion in order to help me grasp a concept. Will be taking for 096.
worst teacher ever. teaches the wrong way. only thing he's good for is great quotes. you fail the mid term than you fail basically. doesnt do reviews for final or mid term. idiot...also bangs his head on the wall alot and stomps around.
very monotone and his teaching is all over the place.
DON'T TAKE HIM!!!! He is a little bit solw, don't know what his doing teaching high level courses. He will just make you waste your money. He says Attedance is not mandatory, but he keeps track and at the end of the semester gives you a W, even if you were suppose to get an A,B, or C. NOT helpful!! ALWAYS hurts himself in class on purpose. Weird!
Finley is excellent, no other way to put it. Explains concepts very slowly and clearly, makes you very confident handling them on your own. Homework assigned (not rqd.) but is at just the right difficulty to prepare you for the test. Has great online resources if you get lost and is generally very helpful. Good balance of difficulty and learning!
Okay, so you either love him or you hate him. If you are one of those people who needs everything explained out slowly and totally fully then he is the guy for you. He leaves no steps out everything is explained which really helps me. His personality maybe a little odd, but I think he's just a really funny guy. There are 4 tests study hard and do t
Mr. Finley is a good teacher. He explains everything in class and has notes on his website that explain to a student what they learned in class. He is a little wacky, bangs his head on the board from time to time, but he is a good teacher and explains math well. I do suggest going to every class and doing every homework he gives out.
A solid professor who explains concepts very well. Always helpful in class and if you do the homework than you should not have any problems on the tests. This is a math class (obviously) and I think a lot of the negative reviews are from people that expect to "show up for an A." It's called studying-do it and you'll be fine.
He is a very intellectual man, but I couldn't understand his style of teaching. I attended tutoring 3-4 times a week, and still couldn't grasp the material. I wouldn't recommend this professor to those that are struggling with math. If you do take him, make sure you attend EVERY class, take notes, and do the homework. I did, and I recieved a "C".
Very awkward teacher. Stomps, stares, and weird talking. I find him quite funny. Knows his Math well and is very helpful. He is very organized but the lectures could have a little bit more organization.
He is a really strange person. He stomps around and bangs his head against things. He also has goofy metaphors relating to math. If you don't understand math well, I don't recommend taking hims. He can be a little confusing. Overall he wasn't that bad, but I would have preferred someone else. (Like Hutchinson)
If you have trouble with math, I wouldn't recommend him-it's easy to get lost in his lectures. Obviously with math, practice is what really helps, but if you don't understand something, even that won't do much good. His tests aren't too hard (compared to the HW, which is online&mandatory), but if you need to continue to 181, he may not prepare you
Amazing teacher :D
a really cool teacher, yaaa he's a weirdo but just study the online stuff and you'll pass :D
He's funny, when he goofs he makes fun of himself, and makes weird noises like wheee when plotting graphs. This was a breathe of fresh air when so many math teachers are dry and hard to understand. I would recomemnd him for any level math course at csn
Pros: He collects HW and finds your mistakes, and gives it back. He makes good analogies and explains the lessons in simple terms. Cons: If you struggle with math, I suggest you DON'T take this professor. Lessons were full of easy examples, but tests were NOT. He doesn't give exam reviews (at least when I had him) and doesn't go over HW in class.
this is a tough class. teacher was ok & helpful. he kinda mocks other students when they ask questions. but he does have a sense of humor. whenever i got confused, i just relied on the hw via online. i would take him for calculus but he's not teaching it. recommend this teacher for those who DO NOT struggle in math.
I got an "A" in this class but honestly I earned through going to tutoring & consistently working independently to understand concepts. His teaching style didnt fit my learning style so I rarely understood what was going on in class. He teaches alot of theory instead of simply working the problems. If you struggle with math- AVOID!!
i had him for maths 128, i got it A. he is really help full, i recomend him for every maths level
Great teacher, but on occasion he does "Dead Horse" on traverses.
Mr. finely kicks Ass! Teaches you everything you need on his test, no real surprises. plus, my math lab was awesome, don't knock it till you try it. End of story.
He can explain math concepts pretty well, but at time I would fall asleep, because he just teach, but sometimes he would throw in a little sense of humor. The tests are fill in the blank that have fewer problems but worth a lot of points! Uses online math program for homework. If you take his class you will most likely to pass!
Great teacher. Breaks down concepts so that it is easy to learn.
goes over lessons very slow, if you dont get something in the hw u can ask and he will explain it to u, class is so not mandatory and he gives a long amount of time to finish and turn in all the hws.
He goes off on tangents and tries to get the class involved. He often will stay after and answer questions. He is really friendly and the tests are not that bad, however the homeworks are online and they can be tricky(not hard just weird formating).
Nice guy but he was lost teaching this class. he seemed confused and made manyu mistakes. He would start a proof then realize he did it all wrong and would erase it and start a different one. I think this was the first time he taught the material. He confused me so much i dropped the class.
I found Mr Finley to be diligent and clear. He always promptly grades tests and homework, and he takes his time and grades your homework thoroughly. He took the time to explain challenging concepts from a few different points of view. However I do wish he could have linked the Math 251 material to future classes or the real world.
Professor Finley is an awesome teacher. Homework is done online and tests are easy and a breeze if you study
This guy knows his stuff. He doesn't teach you a lesson as if you should already understand it. He's a bit of a goof, you really have to try to fail his class. he will bend over backwards to help you pass. He will allow you to use even the most advanced calculators, I use a TI Voyage 200, and it's banned on the ACT and SAT exam.
Very awkward teacher. Bangs his head against the wall regularly. But very easy class, everything is layed out in the syllabus, no surprises. But was never great at answering my questions cuz he would often Over explain stuff.
I spent then entire summer completely lost. Math is not my strong suit but I do not usually have so much trouble understanding concepts. Mr. Finley, while kind and very funny, was not very helpful. I cried through every bit of homework and finally got a tutor to avoid failing. If you aren't a math scholar, you may want to choose another instructor.
He is the best math teacher ever.
A very awkward funny teacher, but in a funny way. He makes jokes a lot which keep the class fun. He breaks the material down so it's easy to understand and answers all questions thoroughly. This is the best math teacher I've ever had. Study for the tests and you'll be fine.
amazing professor!! i definitely recommend him!!! he is awkward but in a very hilarious way! love him!! attendance soo not mandatory got an A in this class :) take him!!
This teacher is so amazing. He is a person that will go out of his way to help you. I would advise to do all the homework regularly as it will prepare you for the tests. I would advise you to take this very kind and wonderful teacher. Just being in his class gives you a love for math. (Yes, I am serious. It is possible to love math.)
One nice thing about this class is that exams are not accumulative. Davis Finley is also funny and entertaining, which rarely happens in a math class. He is always willing to spend time to answer questions and help you understand math.
He is a great teacher. I hated math before I took the class with him. He is really clear when he explains and really helpful if someone asks a question. I absolutely SUGGEST this teacher for your classes.
ive taken this teacher for 126,127 and now 181. he is awesome . he is very clear and thorough for a math teacher and does what he can to make sure we do well
Absolutely fantastic. I loved this teacher and know that you will enjoy this remarkable man. He is one in a million that you do not want to miss. Easy, if you do all that you can. He practically gives you the test with his notes. Study them and do the homework regularly. Enjoy!
Awesome teacher! He explains everything thoroughly! I don't know what else to say he is that awesome. An easy, easy class if you have a hard time understanding math.
good teacher a bit confusing at times he explains how to do things and sometime how not to do things which confuses but he is a great teacher and really good at math recommend him just try to not pay attention when he says this is how you don't do this. because he shows you the wrong way.
His class is super easy. i am taking his math 126(fall 2012). he is very patient. he answers your questions and respects different opinion. we only use textbook for homework. homework is not mandatory but really helpful for exams. he only grades students by 5 exams. just go to class and finish homework. everyone can do well on exams.
Theres a quiz every day on what was covered a week prior. They are 80% and the final is 20%. Homework is not required. He is the best math teacher I have ever had. The only way to not pass his class is if you absolutely suck at math.
He is a really good teacher. His class is interesting. Homework is not mandatory but very helpful. Attendance is not required. Only tests are required, but they are not hard at all.
Excellent prof that breaks concepts down, adds humor, babies his students with easy quizzes and bare minimal homework. He made Calculus II class a pleasure to attend.
Best math teacher ever! He is very helpful. I suck at math but passed with an A but I did ALL the homework and went to his office hours!
I took him 2 semesters (181 & 182) and really enjoyed him. He does teach through example only but he is very helpful and will answer any question you have. He also has a sense of humor. As long as you go to class and do the work, you shouldn't have a problem with this class.
AWESOME teacher, he's very helpful. He uses up his lunch time to help you out. He's funny and weird. TAKE HIS CLASS!
He kicks the door, bangs on the board with his head and pace back and forth. He doesn't have a study lecture and just rambles. Hw is due at the end of the semester. He doesn't really teach well and he has a mono tone voice. He is the worst teacher I ever had
I agree with the comment below me. He doesnt know how to teach. He basically just talks to himself and solves the problem on his own. Worst math teacher ever...I had to withdraw from this class.
He is the easiest teacher & he makes it had not to fail. He has been my math teacher from 127-181 & easy not to change to another teacher. Disappointed he did not teach Math 283 or 251.
Professor Finley was a nice professor and all but I personally did not learn very well from his teaching methods. I was confused through out the whole course. If you can enroll in a better professors class do it if not he's not so bad.
The Professor's approach is to give his students a solid base to start from. The trick to getting a good grade is simple, Step one TAKE GOOD NOTES! Step Two DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Step Three if you have trouble doing your homework MEET WITH THE PROFESSOR IN THE MATH LAB, he will gladly go over every one of your issues one on one! Awesome Teacher!
Professor Finley is a fantastic teacher. He is very thorough in class, and isn't afraid to answer questions. If a student has any difficulties with the homework The professor has hours in the math lab to address any of these additional issues. He is an extremely fair grader. Highly recommend. Would take his class again.
Nope. Don't take it. All the distractions make it hard to concentrate. He makes such loud noise, you would think he's trying to give you a heart attack. Save your time and go with someone else.
Incredibly nice professor. He is very good at math. He is very thorough and can be a bit slow for fast learners like myself but great overall. Highly recommend showing up to class.
His personality makes the class interesting. He is very thorough and answers all questions. I really liked his class.
He oftentimes gets side tracked in his lectures and they are sometimes too slow for those who learn at a fast pace. But, other than that I would have him as a professor again
I was skeptical when I first started his class because of his teaching methods. The semester is almost over and I am so happy I stayed. He does teach a little slow for me but he gives you a good base for each lesson.
Professor Finley is your average Math professor. He loves Math, so he will lecture super fast. Any questions you have, you have to interrupt him, and he will answer. There is homework assigned online, with 4 exams, and a final. There was no textbook for help so It was pretty tough but I got through it.
I SUCK at math, I used to be dyslexic but grew out of it but not before falling behind in math. The great thing about this prof is that NOTHING is due until the end of the semester. Try not to fall behind and wait for the last min to do assignments and u'll be fine. He's kind, very awkward. But perfect for the shy-math-challenged student like me.
DO THE ASSIGNED ONLINE HOMEWORK AHEAD OF TIME!!! Finley has a personality that sometimes gets in the way of his lectures. He likes to be joke around, but sometimes it just isn't appropriate; especially when the lecture is already confusing. He grades fairly and the work you put in will be the grade you receive.
He describes the topic very well and always answers any and all questions. Students, that were confused at the start of the class, approached him after the lectures for clarity, and in the following lectures their understanding of the topic was exceptional. If you are willing to do the work, I highly recommend him.
He is awesome. Gives students a strong foundation for the concepts. He is willing to stay after class and answer questions, and has scheduled hours in the math lab if you need extra help. He is a bit quirky, but that is what makes his class interesting. If you do the homework and pass his tests, which are tough, you will pass. Would take him again.
He doesn't help anybody with anything they need help. Don't take him!
He was actually one of the funniest math teacher that i've had. His class isn't that hard and you pretty much don't have homework during the semester, it all had a due date online. If you need any help on something just go up to him after class and he will help you with no problem.
Finley was a different type of professor than what I was used to. He is a great teacher but if he ever made a mistake while teaching he would bang his head, hand, kick, etc, on the wall or white board another prof walked in to check him once. But he knows what he's teaching and can explain it pretty well. All HW is online and due at end of semester
He's a bit quirky in class, but it does help you stay awake. He goes over the basics in class, but the homework is a lot harder. The test is not as difficult as the homework, so if you complete it, you should get a decent grade.
Very hard to understand. He is very unorganized when teaching, he goes from teaching one thing to stopping in the middle to teach another. I would not take again.
this is actually the best professor I've ever had. He actually goes to math resource center everyday to assist students with any work that they need assistance on. Anyone stating that he's a bad professor is extremely wrong. Despite the fact he may in fact do different things in class it actually helps you stay away in focus more on whats going on.
DONT RECOMMEND!!!! Goes way too fast!
DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM! GOES WAY TOO FAST! If you are not good at math, take another professor!
Didn't like the class at first because he seemed boring. Weird because his voice is so monotone yet he's soo hilarious! He's quirky but that's what I like about him. He really makes the class as easy as possible. Homework is online and part of the grade. Some days were boring, but class was easy if you pay attention and do the homework.
Professor Finley is great and funny. He sees to it that everybody understands what he's talking about. 3 exams only all throughout the sem, online code needed for assignments. He gives study guides 1 wk before the exam. He includes formulas on the test so that students don't have to memorize. If you listen, you'll get the exams. Easy A. I recommend
Don't recommend! Tooo much hw!
Don't recommended him! Besides going WAY too fast, he gives A LOT of hw it is ridiculous, he skips many steps. Be ready to put more than 10 hrs a week for his class. The beginning of semester many students signed up for his class and at the end there was less than half of those students. I wished I would have dropped his class. DON'T recommended!
The best math professor ever. I definitely recommend him. You will be glad you did. No book needed. Just use math lab.
Hes hilarious! Kept me awake which is amazing at 8am in a math 127 class. He's really helpful & takes time to make sure you understand and doesn't assume you remembered all the formulas from past classes. Some times he gives formulas or diagrams to help on tests which is amazing for those of us that aren't very good at math. I'd take him again.
I took Finley for 126 and 127. The class was easy. There is online homework for every lesson and you get unlimited tries for the problems so it's really easy. The homework is all due at the end though so don't procrastinate. 3 pretty easy tests if you did the homework. I never showed up to class but did the homework and tests and still got an A.
I should have listen to some comments I read before. Did not like the way he teaches. He is a nice man, but goes fast. I would try another professor.
If you take his class do not expect him to be there for you, he gets mad when you ask questions in class and punch the wall or hit his head on the wall. He does not use books, he make you sign in an online class with Pearson and expect you to learn on your own. I had never in my life fell a math class until now. Stay away.
Difficult to understand, seems like he doesn't care if his students pass
Lol who are all these people complaining about Finley? Of course it's subjective, but you just need to do the homework (gasp!) and understand the material by actually COMING to class! Some days were boring I'll admit, but he makes the class as easy as possible, and he's funny too. Practice/study to understand the material and you'll do fine.
He teaches slowly. Great! Problem: he is extremely lazy! Writes a few problems on the board and begs students to go up and do them all simultaneously. Since the students aren't teachers, they're not explaining each step as they go. No notes, just examples. I quickly became lost. Took it during the summer. Bad mistake!
I had to retake math 126 because I got an F and I was able to with a B took him in the summer (6weeks.) Teaches very slowly but that's what I need someone to teach me step by step. Had quiz every day but were not hard. He tests you only on what he teaches. Had 1 final test. Grades: HW 20%, final 10%, quizzes 70% drops 3 lowest. No students WD.
Pretty funny dude during class. If you took a high school pre-cal class, it's a pretty simple A. There's usually more than 20 questions for each homework, but they usually take less than half an hour to do. During exams he gives out partial credit for doing the correct steps even if your answer ends up slightly off.
I struggle with math and I noticed I need a lot of examples to help me learn. He doesnt give a study guide and all hw is due before the end of the semester. He teaches in a technical way and does a few examples. You need a lot of time to dedicate to study in order to fully grasp and remember the material and the class is mainly self teaching
All my bad math teachers in high school used the excuse that "college professors don't care", but Finley does. If you are ever lost just let him know and he will break it down into small steps that are easy to understand without making you feel stupid. The homework is super easy and the 3 tests are basically the homework. Pay attention in class!
Finley is great. He may seem a little strange at first, but he's actually really funny. He teaches as if you have never really heard of the concept before to make sure you fully understand what he's teaching. 3 exams. Homework is due at end of semester. If he asks a question, shout out an answer or he'll just stare off into space! Highly recommend.
Take 3 Tests total. Do the Homework. Tests are EASIER than the homework. Gives you a study guide for the final that's similar to actual test (same problems, diff. numbers). Super easy class. Doesn't take attendance. Kinda weird professor but you'll get used to it.
There's a lot of online homework but is fairly easy. Has a quirky personality that keeps you awake during math class and explains very well. Attendance isn't mandatory except for test days but you shouldn't miss class if you find math difficult because of his great lectures.
There is lots of (hard) homework. I struggled in his classes. He is very eccentric, and his learning style was not for me. The first two tests were not easy for me. I did well on the final test because it had a study guide. If you already know everything in 127 and just want to show up for tests then this is for you, if not, I would not recommend.
Professor Finley is awesome! He explains things so well. He really takes time to break every chapter down until the class understands it. However, he does get frustrated and hits his head hard on the wall. He is a pretty funny dude. if you're a person that needs a professor who really explains things well take him! Best math Professor ever!
Professor Finley is a great math instructor! He explains things thoroughly. Keeps the class entertained and helps students whenever it is needed. I wish I could take him again.
This professor was really strange and often appears to not know what hes talking about. If he makes a mistake he bangs his head on the wall or hits the desk. You'll have trouble in this class if you're not very good at math. Boring lectures and Extraneous amounts of homework for the amount of material we learn.
Mr. Finley clearly knows what he is talking about, although he is not the best at explaining it. His lectures are very long, but he only explains how to do two or three types of problems within a single lecture. His tests are very difficult, and he does not give partial credit on problems. He is very quick to help when you have trouble, though.
I would avoid this professor for Calculus. He is good at math, and knowledgeable in solving but he fell behind so fast. I'm worried going forward into highly level math after having taken his class. He gets easily distracted and only does at most 3 problems per lecture. I feel like i lost math skills taking his class from how dumbed down it was.
There is a lot of homework, but he makes it due on the last day of class. He explains the topic, does a couple examples, and moves on. He does not do a review for exams, only for the final exam, which he gives a study guide for. He is a good professor and helps with any questions you have.
Looking for a math course? Great! Just dont choose this one and youll do fine!
Tough grading.
Great teacher!
When I read the reviews, I thought he was going to be a great professor, but I was wrong. He's not bad, but he is also not the best at teaching. If you are good at self teaching then you will do well in this class. Go to the Math Lab if you need help. He makes his students do the work and he always hits the board. He lectures for the whole period.
Class is hard hes got a corky personality and is a bit strange I did horrible up until final test because of the study guide if he did that for all of them I would have done much better but the homework was so much harder than the tests I feel!
Attendance is non-mandatory. This prof was hilarious to watch. He has dry humor and is very specific about whiteboard colors and things. When he makes mistakes he bangs his head hard against the wall. 3 exams and a final. The highest exam is 30%, second is 28%, third is 26%, and fourth is 5% of final grade. Homework in mathlab is 11%. Good class.
Was in his class and instantly changed professors. If I didn't need to learn calculus then I would've stayed in his class and get an 'easy A' but he honestly is a terrible teacher. He doesn't use the correct terminology, goes incredibly slow, makes the class fall behind, and doesn't like questions. If you want to learn math don't take his class!
No attendance points. If you show up for the tests and score well, you pass. Online homework through MyMathLab doesn't affect your grade much but helps a ton if you aren't understanding the material. He taught slowly and thoroughly, making sure each person understood before moving on. He's very interesting.
Hes a quirky dude, pretty funny in lecture but his teaching style doesnt fit how I learn. He often over-explains simple things and doesnt go over more complex questions found in the homework.
The whole grade for this class is three tests and 30 points for homework at the end of the semester which makes it SUPER hard to raise your grade. His lectures are pretty boring but he has a funny personality. Doesn't seem to sympathize much about your grade and he has no office hours. So if you're struggling it makes it harder. Don't take!!
I took 126 & 127 w Finely. These are hard classes, so they really require attention & to ask for help when needed. Homework is on Pearson, sometimes there is a lot, but the website is helpful. I like his grading system and his color coding during lectures helped insanely, but he can be hard to continue following as the concepts get more abstract.
I took an 8 week course. The class was made up of a 4-10 question quizzes everyday (you can miss 3) and then one final exam worth I think 20%. The quizzes are exactly the same problems he does in class (with different #s). He teaches the lesson then in 2 days there's the quiz, enough time to ask questions about lesson or voluntary homework provided
Solid Professor. He hosts web lectures twice a week, feel free to join it if you need any help as he will respond right away. Homework is on Pearson, any questions I had were answered right away.
Passed my 127 class no trouble! I actually took his 126 last semester and enjoyed it. Hosts many lectures during the week where all course material was reviewed and would take all questions. His eight-week 127 course did not require a textbook or any access codes of some sort which I liked. Grades were updated automatically.
Professor Davis is a great professor. What makes him great is one you do not have to buy a textbook, it is free. second, he gives you clear notes and examples for every section of the book, so it will become very easy to understand the topic you are learning. you will only be graded by the 4 exams. homework does not grade.
He made the tests easy but his teaching style is very unorganized. I took his online class and if you skip the lectures and just look at the worked examples he gives I think I understood it well. You know exactly what will be on the quizzes which is good. I liked him a lot.
His lectures were recorded onto CANVAS for students afterward. He will slow down if anyone asks him a question. Each week's quizzes are medium difficulty, but if one pays attention and does even half of each homework the quizzes should be alright. None of the homework was mandatory (but heavily recommended) so there were no turn-ins - a nice bonus.
Don't worry, calculus is easy with Professor Finley!! He is amazing and explains everything. Take notes on his lectures and use them on tests. You can use his methods to answer every question. He uses desmos to show things we didn't understand. He gives a great review for the final exam. Use the review on the final! Easy A if you do the work!!!
Finley is easily the best prof. you could ever possibly take for Calc. He teaches everything in class, no book needed. no online program either, just simple paper problems. He explains at the beginning of the year every class has a structure of: Quiz on a previous lecture->Lecture->class over. every class has hmwrk and quizzes but are super easy.
If you struggle with math, do NOT take this class. His lectures were pointless, and most of what was not on the homework. His time management was poor as he never finished the lessons for the week, leaving us to teach ourselves. He offers no extra credit and no study guide. He grades off on homework and tests. You will live in the math lab to pass.
I met Professor Finley at CSN's math tutoring center (they have limited availability for Calc II). He was meeting with his own students. And even though I was not his student, he took the time on multiple occasions to tutor me and explain the material. Very generous of him. He is a solid guy and good teacher, and I would say he is a great choice.
I wish he wasn't retiring so I could take him for Calc I & II. He was always so patient and took the time to explain how he found the answers in great detail. It was easy to get a 100 on your homework so long as you tried and put an answer. Always available after class in the math center in case you didn't understand the lesson. I'll miss him!
The grading policy of the professor was exceptional in how it structured the class. Each component of the course was graded out of a maximum of 20%. For instance, homework and math exams were both worth 20%. During my time in the class, I had four exams, each of which accounted for 20% of my final grade. I highly recommend him.
I'm a math person, and I found Findley's class very easy. He is unintentionally funny and is very helpful. He answers questions during class. There are 4 exams and homework assignments for each lecture. I would take his class anytime again.
I enjoy mathematics, but I've had a difficult time in his class. I find it hard to understand his lectures because they aren't clearly and heavily explained. Although he's a lenient grader, you really have to do the extra work of trying to properly understand the topics. DON'T rely solely on his lectures; study on your own in addition.
Professor Finley has a unique teaching style that can be helpful if you engage with it. The grading is challenging, but the lectures are worth attending. unstuck AI was a game-changer for my exam prep. Overall, a solid class if you're willing to put in the work.
I enrolled in his Math 181 class for the fall 2024 semester. He is a great guy and knows very well the topics he teaches. If I had to say one thing it would be don't expect this class to be easy. Homework isn't graded but heavily encouraged as tests mostly use it as a reference. I had a biology class to study for also so I ended up slacking.
I really like Mr. Finley. His lectures might not be the most organized but if you ask questions he will take the time to explain them. No formula sheet is allowed in the exams but everything would be examples taken from the homework. Just make sure you know how to do it. He grades fairly and usually drops one exam or makes the least worth only 4%
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A World-Class Math Professor - The Best Being taught by the best math professor in the world was life-changing. They brought passion to every lecture and made complex topics clear. Always available during office hours, they supported every student with patience and care, making our success their mission. Truly inspiring and unforgettable.
