He is the easiest professor in the Rutgers. Easy A
Took his Finance class in the summer, was not an easy class, but Finance is not an easy subject. Will need to study out of the book. He will listen to students concern, and his test are not that difficult if you study and understand.
Talks about oil prices 40% of class time. Hardly covers course material. Lectures before exams. Any and all topics end up with oil price politics
Prof's focus is almost completely on Oil. While it's important for Macro, I understand that there is other trade out there. I would avoid taking him again. The book's practice quizes online were very similar to the exams.
Absolutely horrible professor. He begins his actual "teaching" an hour into the class, EVERYTHING before hand is about oil prices, energy, and current events. Nothing in his hour long non-sense lectures are on the exam so you are forced to read cover-to-cover if expect to have any type of decent grade. Avoid at all costs, seriously.
He's a very smart guy, but he's not very good at teaching. He talks way too much about the news. Which would be fine, except he hardly goes over the material, what he does go over is incoherent.
Expect to teach yourself everything if you want to pass the class. The professor does not teach. He spends an hour of class talking about oil, the middle east and the economy, of which nothing is on the exams. He goes over a chapter in 20mins. He's extremely smart but horrible at teching! Take coffee to class its really boring! He does curve alttle
This has been my worse professor/class to date; mono-tone doesn't discuss any useful material teaching method consists of just graphs from text. You definitely will be taking a self taught class with this character. I so aggravated that I?m writing a letter to the Dean!
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He spends the 1st hour on "current events" which always involve oil prices and the poor policies of the U.S. and then runs through the prepared slides for the acutal lecture in about twenty minutes. The course would have been more useful as a self-study. Very disappointed.
MacroEcon-Graduate.Read the textbook.Multiple Choice exams that are taken from the txtbook.Lectures are just about current events and oil.
I don't know why people complain, I studied maximum of 1 hour throughout the whole semester and got B. He gives you amazing curve, and all you really have to do is study first exam which is all common sense. If you know little bit about econ, you will get A with B efforts.
This professor was so boring and created such a depressing atmosphere that going to class was a zen exercise --"breathing through this class." Spent the entire time fantasizing about when it would end. The lectures are useless, just read the book and teach yourself. Avoid!
Nice guy but spends too much time going over current events and not enough time thoroughly explaining everything comfortably in preperation for the quizes and/or exams
Echo same sentiments: focus too much on current events and on oil. Yes, it is a very boring class. Just read the textbook, do the sample questions. Don't ask too many questions else you'll hear more oil stories. Exams all multiple choice. I disagree with others in that the tests were quite easy, straight from the book. 100 on tests so far.
I dont know why everyone hates against this man. He's a legit teacher. I didn't have any problems with him and his exams are cake. I got an A.
I did not enjoy his Managerial Econ Analysis class. Every example he did in class was about oil. He covers a lot of material for each exam and there is no curve. His exams tend to be a bit tricky and if you are taking the night class 6-9PM, he will usually give a lecture before each exam with new material, so the exam started around 8 PM.
Why Rutgers why? Why would you offer a man of such poor fundamentals in teaching. Does he even care....NO. The guy is a joke. Reads power points for class as if I can't do that myself at home. He should actually try teaching to earn that paycheck of his. Rutgers should remove him from the program. Go somewhere else!
yes he does go over current events in the beginning. But so what? It's NOT all about oil, like others have said. He tries his best to make it interesting, but Economics is boring. Read the chapters before lecture, and once again before the exams, he give a fantastic curve, plus extra credit on the test, and chances for more extra credit, easy A
yes, half of class time he goes throu current events and then start lecturing. even tho people are sleeping right infront of him, he doesnt do anything but when someone starts talking from far away, he notices and gets pissed. he's class is just one of those BORING classes. grades r based on exams n attendance ONLY. u'd just end up doin self-study.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. does not teach. he just reads definitions from the textbook. Attendence is mandotory. It's a great place to nap. Good luck with him. I had to read the textbook and teach myself. the only thing this professor taught me is how terrible a professor can be.
HORRIBLE Professor! You will end up teaching yourself.
Pretty terrible professor I would say! All he talks about is oil which does not show up on any of his exams and he reads off slides in the last ten minutes of class in lecturing a chapter. So, he basically expects you to do all the studying on your own and all the exam questions are specific details from the textbook! MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK!
Horrible professor. Very boring and has a heavy accent. All he does is go over slides which are posted online. Do NOT take him if you want to learn!
Terrible profesor, has a very heavy accent and doesnt teach the same way as the textbook making it pointless. He has hard exams and is not a good profesor to take.
this professor was not entertaining and sometimes hard to understand but I got a B in the class and went to 8 classes total, all i did was cram before the exams. 2 exams (10 mc and 3 openended 2 quizes (5 mc and 2 openended) if you put in about 2 hours study time your fine just make sure to read so you dont get lost in class. somewhat fair grader
Aggregate Economic Analysis in RU MBA program. Abolute waste of time to go to class, he simply reads the PPT supplied by the textbook line by line, adds no real world experience. Simply study the textbook prior to the exams and you'll do fine. 2 exams, M. CH. 50 Qs each, 1 30 min. presentation, 1 to page paper single spaced! Not hard overall.
Had him for Econ Macro. He is awful. Has a heavy accent and randomly takes attendance. Collects HW (Syllabus says he wont) and cuts points if it is not ALL typed. Tests are hard. Cares a lot about gas and current events. Class is very boring. Don't take him if you have an option.
Reading the book is 100% more useful than Professor Taree's lectures. His lectures do not coincide with material presented on exams so reading the text is a must. He comes across in class as very defensive which discourages class participation. There is no homework, and final grades are based on 3 exams.
Agree with previous ratings. He reads from slides and rarely expounds on key ec. principles. The homework is extremely time consuming but may prove valuable for tests (only 2 then the final). Tests are difficult, but he curves. Students randomly volunteer current event topics which he discusses that don't help with lecture content. Don't recommend.
I had him for Managerial Econ and you definitely need to put in the time to read the entire textbook and do all the study problems. If you can do that you should be fine. If you take the time to come up with questions you have after reading the material he will definitely answer your questions and help you.
SUCH A NICE PROFESSOR - GOES OUT OF THE WAY TO HELP YOU. HE HAVE A HEAVY ACCENT BUT EXPLAINS THINGS IN GOOD DETAIL. HE HAS A GREAT COMMAND OF THE SUBJECT AND SHOWS A GREAT INTEREST IN IT.
This guy mumbles for 3 hours straight. The class was another boring college economics class. Absolutely no takeaway. He wasn't helpful when students asked for assistance. Most of the class stop attending after the first 2 weeks. Rutgers should be ashamed for offering this as a graduate course. Steer clear. Find another graduate school if possible.
Main interest and first half of class is devoted to current events. He has a heavy accent but will explain anything that is not clear. You will do 1 or 2 oral presentations in this class (no group project). Homework is not mandatory but attendance is. Don't get caught on your phone or laptop or you will lose points!
I read so many negative reviews before I took this class, but I'm glad I did. If you seek help he will help you. You have to study and put in effort in order to pass. I didn't do great on the midterm or the final, but aced the projects (2) and always attended class. Make sure he knows who you are and that you are actually trying to learn.
He talks through the whole entire class discussing the information presented in the PowerPoint presentations, assigns no work except to read the chapters for the tests, and ask for students to give current events presentations. No one in my class felt like they learned anything. He curved the test grades because majority of the class was failing.
Hardest and most confusing professor, I ever had. His class focuses on current events, which have nothing to do with the material in the book. The exams are very difficult, he has to curve all of the tests because, like no one ever passes his class. My class started out with 150 students and dropped to 17 students.
One of the worst professors I'd ever had! He speaks very monotone and the class was boring. No fun at all. Gives no homework. Must get the book to clearly understand the class. Miss no classes.
I LOVE HIS CLASS BECAUSE HE MAKE IT FUN TO LEARN.
Great Professor!! Very lenient grader, and gave a lot of extra credit. All in all, I would take him again. Just attend, and study like you would for any class and you will do fine.
I would not recommend him. Very boring man and his exams were SO hard! Two exams and 1 group project. He will randomly take attendance. Textbook is a must because it will save your life for his exams - questions come straight from there.
Lectures are very boring most of them later in the semester are just group presentations. Goes over little in class but reviews before exams recommend reading the book and you'll be fine tests are MC.
His lectures are incredibly boring, he doesnt even teach the class, he talks about current events and the class before an exam, he tries to teach and expects you to know everything already. He has a vast knowledge of this class but has no clue how to teach it. save yourself and dont take him.
Nice guy but absolutely cannot teach!!!! All he does is talk about current events and expects you to learn everything on your own. Encourages you to buy a $300 textbook, only to find out that the powerpoints are the exact same. His exams are BRUTAL. Even with studying and reading both the powerpoints and textbook and going to office hours, got a C
Cant teach, not clear. No homeworks grade depends on 3 tests and one presentation. Each test is 5 chapters and each chapter is dense. He has an accent so dont expect to understand what is going on.
Biggest mistake that other students had made was that they didn't read the textbook. His exams are straight from the textbook, not lecture. Pay attention to charts in the texts and do the practice questions at the end of chapters and this class will be easy. His lectures are interesting and you will learn about current events.
For his macro class, his exams come from the test bank that goes with the textbook.
Tough class, you absolutely need to study. Get the book and do the end of chapter problems because test questions will be very similar. He does talk about current events for a good portion of the class, like others have said. He was a fair grader for the group project, which only required giving a little effort.
I took stats in the summer after failing in the spring semester. At first I had a different teacher but then got switched to this professor and I was so scared of failing again. Not sure about econ but for stats all his quizzes and tests could be found online and even then he teaches clearly in class so you don't really need to cheat.
You have to work hard if you want a good grade in this class. He has a heavy accent and talks for the first 2 hours about current events which is NOT on the test and no one cares about. Test are from the textbook. 3 test and the presentation. You have to basically teach yourself. Started with 34 students ended with 12. Not really a good professor.
If you'd like to receive an A in Dr. Taree's class, you're going to have to really want it and put in the work for it. He spends much of his time talking about current events, which don't appear on exams, but he does get around to everything you'll need to know. I personally found that studying my notes was more useful than textbook problems.
I would 100% not recommend this professor. His main focus in an economics class is to talk about current events and politics, in which he spends the least amount of time on the stuff that actually matters. Then he expects you to know the material for the tests. I truly wonder why/how they gave him a job as a professor. I learned VERY LITTLE.
Most of the comments on here talk about how bad he is but he is REALLY easy, he does not teach ANYTHING during class time but all you have to do is read the textbook assigned and all the exams are multiple choice & based off it. I really did not like him at first because he doesn't teach and wastes a lot of time but he's really not bad at all
Get the textbook because the exam questions come straight from it. Pay attention to the charts, read when he tells you to. This will get you an A. His lectures are long and have nothing to do with the material, but he is really nice. Gives curves that gives u back 10 points and there is no homework. Checks attendance sometimes and 1 group project!
Awlful!!!!
really tough class honestly but he wont fail you and will curve the exams. also dont buy myeconlab unless you know you'll use it. also dont be late he gets mad if you walk in late. heavy accent too but its understandable. do well on the presentation and youll pass
I compare this class to sitting in a hospital waiting room to find out if a family member has died . Its boring , and sad at the same time . The way he talks is so mundane , and the tests dont match his lecture . His class is a waste of time . Dont know why he was hired at the college , hes a smart guy but a terrible professor . Dont take it
Good Professor, but you have to read and go over the material more than two times.
Absolutely Horrible. Basically took every Professor as an econ major and this guy is the worst
I'm in the middle of my semester with this professor. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Honestly, save yourself the emotional distress. Half of my class is failing due to him not teaching in class. I've basically had to TEACH MYSELF macroecon on all semester in hopes of passing this class. There are better professors. I suggest you choose one.
worst professor I've ever had. Currently taking him for Macro. He is so boring. His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with his exams. He takes attendance so you're forced to have to sit there and listen to his useless lectures. Be prepared to do all of the work on your own. He is extremely rude and I don't get how he still has a job. AVOID HIM
If you want to feel like you're on the verge of tears the entire semester, take Professor Taree. His lectures barely have anything to do his tests. I guarantee you will have to teach yourself on your own time. Taking his Macroecon class has literally been the worst experience of my entire college experience. SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR GPA.
by far the most boring, difficult, unreliable professor i ever took for econ. you cant just depend on his lectures as he reads them off the powerpoint, you gotta put 100% in the work yourself. i wouldnt suggest taking him for econ at all.
I've never wanted to sleep harder than I have when attending his statistics class. The most boring class I've ever taken and he's always going on about how people keep leaving mid-class while treating people like it's high school. I've been in many 3 hour classes, and people stay in those because they aren't boring and they feel respected.
Professor Taree doesn't teach well. He will try to scare you in the first class and seem strict. Attendance does not matter and the class is heavily curved. Add up the grading scale he provided, it is very easy to score a C. If you pass 3 of his tests with an A, you could not take the final and still pass with an A. Just study MyEconLab and book.
HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH TAKING THIS COURSE WITH HIM!! Hardest class ever!! He will not help nor get back to your emails it's a waste of time trying to get this class. Go with any other professor.
He is the worst. When i read the ratings I told myself cant be that bad howveer he really is. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He doesnt care about teaching, has a very heavy accent which make everything harder
I dropped his class within the first five minutes of zoomhe did NOT have to worry about me at all I was gone!!!!
He does not teach! You learn everything yourself! He HAS to curve all his tests because of how bad students do. The content is boring enough already and his tone and accent makes it even worse. I should've dropped his class in the beginning and now I am barely hanging on a thread. The only reason I come to class is attendance, which is horrendous.
HES TERRIBLE DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He mumbles and you cannot understand anything he says! Everything you learn is self taught and his class is dumb and a waste of time!
Do not take him for Basic Stat for Research (01:960:401). He reads content from slides that aren't his own and doesn't ever actually teach. All homework/material is on Pearson MyStatLab and does not align with the exams that he creates. For the homework you MUST use technology, but you can't use it on exams, unlike other sections. Has thick accent.
just don't take him. luckily i had him during covid
Homework was all from MyLab, which was way too heavy, and it told us to "use technology" to find answers when we could not on the exams. Professor told students "you should know this" when they would ask questions about how he found an answer instead of helping. Way too many stories for the char limit. If you don't have to, do NOT take his class.
I beg you, PLEASE listen to the other reviews! I made the mistake of ignoring them and it was the worst class I have ever taken. It seems like he doesn't care about his students at all and is extremely unacconomdating. His tests are extremely hard and the structure of the course is a disaster. So many people failed the class, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
He extends class by an extra hour. Classes are depressingly boring. He almost never makes sense in what he's saying. And gives zero motivation for the class. Honestly, I tried to give him a chance after reading the bad reviews... But trust me, they're all accurate. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.
Avoid him unless you want to just teach yourself, like I did. The tests aren't bad but his lectures don't help whatsoever. He does not believe in using technology, which says a lot for a class like Statistics. All his tests were on paper, and he made 200 students sign off their full name on an attendance sheet.
it only took one lecture for me to realize that this guy shouldn't be teaching
I had him for statistical methods. Lectures are useless. I did some self study but the exams were hard. Reason I passed was because of the curve.
If you are passionate about economics and can read all of the chapters assigned then you will be able to pass with an A or B. Attendance is a must. Complete all of your homework it will seriously bring up your grade. Just try your best and study the slideshows. He's a nice teacher but you really have to give it your all if you struggle with math.
He is an outstanding professor, would highly recommend!!
Amazing professor. Lectures are straightforward and he is available out of class. Highly recommend!
Taree spends all class lecturing the class, but the lecture rarely has anything to do with the content of the course. You can attend all the classes, and listen to all the lectures, but you will still not learn anything. This is a class where you entirely have to teach yourself, Taree even admits this himself.
He is a terrible professor and doesn't know how to teach. He goes on about different topics not relevant to the class. Will get annoyed when asked a question. His lectures are super boring and made me want to never come back to class. This class has a lot of homework, and you will only be graded on 3 exams and the homework. He's very rude too.
He is a very rude professor. Please find someone better. He has no idea how to teach.
try your best to stay away. If you do, just go to the lectures and sleep cause they're useless. He rambles about the most random things and when he doesn't talk about anything relevant he makes it so boring that nothing sticks. your only chance of passing is reading the textbook and slides he provides. He does provides extra credit presentations
I wouldn't recommend him at all, his lectures are irrelevant and he basically goes over the slides and formulas, which are accessible online. He doesn't really go over anything outside the textbook. So, just read the textbook and the slides for the midterms and final. He does give you extra credit by presenting in class.
Don't take this professor!! He rambles on about irrelevant topics and there is no point of attending class, however it's mandatory. The only way to get through the class is by studying the slides and HW. He gives three exams in the semester and take up a large percentage of your grade.
The professor's teaching methods were ineffective and the class felt like a nightmare. He only read off the slides and the exam questions were mostly based on the homework but he tells you to read the useless book. However, he gave extra credit for slide presentations. Be aware that in this class, you're paying to teach yourself. STAY AWAY!!!!
He is an ok professor to be honest.
Extremely hard on students. Raised his voice and was nasty a few times so dropped the class immediately.
Very disrespectful towards students in class and believes his way is the only "right way" to do things. Calls students out in front of the class solely to embarrass them. Although coursework is rigorous, it provides a good understanding of Micro Economics. Curves tests quite well.
He does not know how to teach. DON'T TAKE HIM AT ALL.
It is very unfortunate that this is one of the options available for a introductory class. If anyone had an interest in taking Econ as a major, this man alone would ruin it for you. Whatever you do please please please do not take this professor, even if everything else if closed. The exams are terrible based on what he teaches. He rambles often.
You'll be fine. Just read the textbook and listen to the majority of what he says. If you do the homework and extra credit, it helps your grade. He is not a horrid teacher, nor is he the best. He explains concepts decently/ Feel free to ask questions. He will happily help and explain how to get the correct answer to the whole class.
his exams are very tough.
No respect for anyone. Has an attitude of "his way or the highway". Complains about using laptops in between babbling about nonsense not related to material. Learn nothing from class and everything from the textbook, along with homework that takes a substantial amount of time to complete. save yourself the headache. DO NOT take any of his classes.
Taree struggles to stay on topic, does not engage with students, & has trouble both giving and receiving feedback. Refuses to be corrected when he makes mistakes. Goes on 20 minute tangents if you don't pass the attendance sheet correctly or if you glance at your phone. Reads straight from slides with no explanations. Doesn't answer any questions.
I would not recommend this professor at all. The lectures are super boring and very long and he mainly just reads off the slides. Literally take anyone else. He does not really teach the topics either more so tries to give real world examples of them with no context. It makes it really difficult to actually learn the topic. I was lucky to get a B+.
He doesn't know how to teach, extremely rude to everyone and also extremely strict in marking.
Don't take him.
Absolute nightmare. Lectures make zero sense, and assignments are due at weird times like 10:59 p.m. Tons of homework, unclear instructions, and mandatory attendance. He even complains if you mess up the sign-in sheet. You'll teach yourself everything, avoid at all costs.
absolutely under no circumstance should you ever take this professor. He's impossible to understand and you end up teaching everything to yourself. Everything he writes on the board is messy and unclear. Save yourself the time and just do not take him. However, he gives sample tests that are similar to the tests which makes it slightly easier.
worst professor ive had in all my years
these other ratings are right, avoid!
Bad at teaching
Weak ah teacher don't waste your time onb
Course isn't hard when comes to sitting down and learning yourself, it's hard to understand him during lectures. He's quick with unclarity to lectures. HW online, problem when he doesn't know it to help. It helps you learn but it strives away from the clas problems itself. Function sheets for tests but aren't reflective on your grade until the end.
The statistics professors at Rutgers are absolutely terrible. My friend is taking Kusum Mundra (2.3/5 rating) and he's suffering in there. Taree can't be any better, however. Mumbles and seems like he doesn't care about the topics. His SIRS ratings are also terrible. Genuinely, what is the Statistics department doing?
his voice is similar to watching paint dry
Just terrrible.
He has a heavy accent and does not teach the key concepts.
He's a rough professor. He's very old school and super knowledgeable on economics, but he is really out of touch with teaching. His lectures are rants about politics (super biased) and probably 15% relevant to the material. First exam was obnoxiously hard, second was better, HW takes a long time. You have to completely self teach from the book.
He is not good at teaching. He often goes off topic and does not cover everything on the exams. The only homework is mcgraw hill but don't be happy because it'll take 500 years to complete. The material is so hard and tedious. Can't pay me to take this again.
Graded by homework and 3 exams, that's it. If you want to do extra credit it's like 5%. Definitely wouldn't take him again, I didn't enjoy his teaching methods/styles. However, I feel that if you really tried to understand him, he's a smart guy. Many of these reviews will tank him because they didn't even try, and in a way it's not fair to him.
