Extremely unclear speech.
This teacher goeas through his lessons extremely fast. Students do not really have a chance to grasp the material because of his overall lack of consideration for the kids. Sometimes he will cover as much as a whole chapter in one day about 3hrs.
I agree with all that is said above.. I NEVER understand his lectures (No one in the class does) due to his horrible accent and speed of lectures.....NO exaggeratin...I'm a 4.0 student, but failing his class..enogh said.
I agree with everyone who rated this teacher.........
He aight alot of HW though but he does his job.
His class is tough, but his grading process is very fair. He has many different office hours available to help students with whatever problems they may have. He does speak english with his native accent, but nonetheless, it is not difficult to understand.
Very anger! Nobody like him.
He's a good teacher. Just keep up with the homework and lectures and you'll do fine on the tests. People exaggerate with his accent.

Dont take him, is all I have to say...
Could be better-could be worse, kind of teacher. Has an slight accent, teaches too many classes, and forgets that Math125 students are not as good as his calculus students.
I agree with anybody, he is a really killer in ELAC.
If you show up for each class meeting, you will get at least a C in his class. His tests and quizes are easy, they are mostly from the assigned homework (of course different numbers will be used). Students hyperbole about his accent and teaching methods
very helpful

he is a good teacher, helpful, but he does not give you the same problems he goes over with in the test!
Ahhh that's rubbish -- he is an awful teacher. He is ALWAYS in a rush after class, never there to answer questions. And OMG don't get me started on that accent of his... What he is saying got half the class like ???
HE SUCKS!!!NEVER GIVES SAME PROBLEMS HE GOES OVER ON THE TEST!!!His exams are nothing that you study!!!His extra credit is sooo hard its pointless and it doesn't help your grade for****!!!!!!! I'm out, if u got him, your whack!!!
don't take him, if you wanna learn, if you wanna a fair grade.he is hardhardhard, accent killing everybody in the class, don't know why school hired some one has a english speaking problem to teaching in america, he never go ove the hw,never stay for student who has problem, goes reallfast, waste ur ti
I admit that he has trouble explaining MATH TERMS, but overall he really is a good teacher. And he explains his notes in detail. He makes you earn your grade by giving you credit for doing your homework and getting good grades in both Quizes and Tests, but he also makes you think.
Although his English is not very well, he explains the lessons so well and logically. I love the way he teaches
good teacher
no bueno
English s not a big problem, he will explain all your problems, they way he teachs is easy to understand. You should take his class if you really want to learn math.
he is a good teacher..actually knows what he is talking about...but its very hard to understand him. he rushes through the book too quickly to coprehend enough for his though tests. though unclearly he sometimes gives extra time to study for tests, but he doesn't ever slow down on a chapter....take him if you want n see for yourself.
Very bad teacher. It's very hard to understand his english and plus he goes really fast.
very nice teacher. clear and helpful, he teaches you real stuff. the test was not hard. besides, you really learn.
he is VERY helpful the problem is students who do not want to learn give the instructor bad raitings. I think I earned the grade and he helped me by teaching me and ALWAYS asking the class if we had questions. If you want to get something out of a math class and be challengin this teacher is it
hes only helpful if you ask questions. He has bad english so its hard to understadn him.
He's a very good teacher. Will always explain things if you do not understand. Quizzes and Tests are fairly simple if you do the homework. He explains everything in detail and gives a lot of examples.
Don't know what is he teaching, and you would not get his words. Go else where people.
He is a fairly easy teacher and his tests and quizzes are pretty straightforward. You will do well if you listen to lecture and do your HW. Although he does have an accent you get used to it after awhile. He is nice and always willing to help if you have questions.
he explain clearly and is very nice. work hard for a lot of homework and you will easily pass this class.the tests would be hard but you can drop one,and sometimes he give extra points.he is a fair professer and really care about students.work hard and you will get A.
ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM!!!... better take a class in short hand because this guy rushes his notes at a speed of about 1 board a minute... amazing that smoke doesn't come out of the markers.
hard to understand his accent.. not really worth to take his class....
Like Oh my god, this man cannot speak the English language and he writes in every board he has. You ask yourself "When is this basterd going to stop?". Do not take him if you like to suffer, and in the verge of committing suicide.
Stop crying, he effective and solid. Cuts out junk and heavy on calculator. I'll take that indian accent over any asian garble any day
UGH WHATEVER - HE CANNOT TEACH... END OF DISCUSSION.
He is ok if you know what you are doing if not forget it he goes too fast and is not really clear on the explination
This was hard to understand. He's lecture's are only for those that understand the math already. Don't do it.
the first day,he taught the lesson, and i really don't understand what language is he speaking. but his class is pretty easy, he is a nice and helpful. when u answered his question, he explained it very clear and make u understand. only bad thing is his pronunciation is weird
what I want to say is..I don't know what the hell he talking about! sush as "data" he would say "ta ta" don't know wht he is teaching about too!totally unclear!also, can't foget his pop up test!it was suppose to test two days later!don't take him...i drop it already
Good professor. He takes the time to explain to you if you have a problem or you don't understand something. He has a strong accent, but you get use to it.
He does have a pretty heavy accent, but you get used to it. You get homework but you get plenty of time to do it. Sometimes there're pop-quizzes but as long as you've been paying attention they're not that bad, and they're not worth that much anyway. I love that he's very approachable, more than willing to help. He's also easy going with attendance
He has quite a thick accent and assigns quite a lot of homework, but you actually do understand the basic concepts, and I'm not one to like math.
very hard to understand. Don't take him.

He is an awesome professor...sure he has an accent...but overall he aint bad. I thought his lectures were clear and his test werent duable. I would recommend him to anyone.
Mr. Alemu is a great and knowledgeable teacher. Even though many complain about his accent he is completely understandable and is good at explaining the material. He does assign homework every day, but most of the problems are odd therefore one can check the answers. I recommend him and must say is very clear in explicating the math problems.
Despite everybody's comments about his accent which in reality is a false statement, he is a GREAT teacher. He is self explanatory, he is clear, and he knows what he is teaching. You can't even notice his accent once he starts teaching. I highly recommend him and can honestly say that he is one of the most brightful, and intelligent teachers I've h
Mr. Alemu is an awesome teacher. He is really good at explaining the math material, and he is willing to definitely help you and has available office hours where you can talk to him about a particular lesson you do not understand. Many people complain about his ACCENT, but the truth is that we all have an accent, and he is perfectly understandable.
He's a good and really strict teacher. His accent is really hard to understand, of course ppl from America can understand a little bit but for international students who are not completely perfect in English, it's HORRIBLE !! Still, he'll try to explain things to you if you ask.
Mr. Alemu is a strict teacher, however very understandable. Many individuals complain about his accent, though these are the persons who do not attend class and deserve whatever unpleasant grade they acquired. I highly suggest Mr. Alemu if not only interested in passing the class with a decent grade, but also concerned about learning.
I took him for Winter '07 and I was late 99% of the whole session.. He was sort of mean or rude in a way when u ask some "stupid" question... but u can change his opinion by being a good student, participate!!! it'll help ur grade a lot if he remembers the effort u put in. He's not too hard but definitely not easy.. He's helpful though, so take him
This teacher is great, it is very easy to understand and he cares about students. I recomend this teache, Es la neta!
Definitely one of the most helpful math teachers I've ever had. His tests are not that hard if you understood the material in his lectures and did all the homework. The homework may be a bit much but it's worth doing. The final is basically a compilation of previous tests (same problems, just different numbers). Very willing to help students!
i took him in winter .he was easy even he has an accent. but i used to guess in his class. coz i have known those material .but some acpect i still need to study. study his quizes and tests before final . u will got A . FOR SURE! if ur average is high too . u should be get A in his class.
For those ignorants who complain about Mr. Alemu's accent! Do you think you speak perfect English? Are you British? I do not think so. I am guessing you folks are the typical individuals who want it easy. But, Hello? We are in college! Mr. Alemu is a great teacher clear and strict and if he has an accent have you heard yours? Highly Recommend Him.
I took him during the fall semester and found him to be really fast. In addition, if you have a question he doesn't change the method or the way to show you what he did. Found him to be trying he'll just keep repeating himself until you just say yea. Read the book for better understanding
Taking his class for Spring 2008. It's not so much his accent that makes him difficult to follow, but his teaching style and technique. He assigns a lot of homework, doesn't go over the homework unless you ask him, doesn't review prior to a test, and tests you on material several weeks after it's been covered. Very difficult to keep up.
he is a very nisman but he is very hard to understand, because of his accent and his teaching method and coming to him for help is useless cause you can't understand him and if you don't get it he get very annoyed. the class is very fast pass and there is no time for you to ask questions. his exam consist of 10 questions, but are very hard. over al
i dont think if u take his class, i can learn a lot. im getting an A in his class because i read the book on my own n i studied before test. his note is just exactly wud the book says. plus, it's kinda hard to understand him, but just the beginning tho.dis class is good for those who like to learn on their own.

Currently taking class. Way too much homework. Assigns problems in the homework that never show up on quizzes or tests. After a while, you do the homework just to get it done. You don't really get anything out of doing so much homework. Good class for those that realy enjoy math and will use it in the future. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

First and foremost all the criticism towards Mr. Alemu comes because he requires attendance, homework, and a willingness to learn math. Although he has an accent, he is completely understandable and is very passionate about the subject. He is indisputably one of the best teachers in the Math Department. Do your homework, attend class daily, and stu
Yes, has an accent get use to (FYI: world is diverse get with it) and writing?s sloppy. He?s a great teacher compare to most and he does hold your hand if you don?t resist you will probably learn. Do attend class, homework, mathXL, H.W (useless and unstructured), TAKE NOTES (HELPS! / POP QUIZ), and lab hours. The class is difficult, his not
great math teacher. very clear and to the point. he does not confuse u at all. he knows his stuff! average amount of hmwk but if u do it u will totally pass the class!
wHAT CAN I SAY THA CLASS SUCKS, i TOOK IT THIS SUMMER OF 09 AND FAILED WITH A (D). i DID ALL MY HOMEWORK AND STILL I DID NOT PASS, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS, HE RUSHES TO FAST, HE GET MAD WHEN YOU DONT GET WHAT HE GET RIGHT FOR ANY PROBLEM, TELL YOU THE TRUTH JUST DONT TAKE HIM, I GOT A BAD GRADE, MAN I SWEAR, HE NOT FAIR, HE JUST MAKES IT HARDER ON TES
well this teacher was not mean & tried to help you if u asked, but would get frustrated if you didnt get it the first time he explained it- he moved through sections very quickly & gave alot of homework- i have trouble with math so i think only if you are good at it you should take him unfortunaly i was way behind and had to drop this class =/
Professor Alemu is overall a good teacher. He is extremely helpful, and understands the subject. He emphasizes technique, and uses the textbook as a reference to what you should be doing. Read the textbook before hand and you'll be alright. I had to drop due to time constraint; with proper attention this would easily be my favorite class. recommend
I am currently taking his class and i understand everything he taches he helps students a lot. He is understandable and is friendly if you ask him for help. he never gets mad
he explains everything good. he gives a worksheet w/all the semesters hw, is our responsability to complete the chapter hw by the day of the chapter test. pretty simple :D he does a section a day like alot of teachers, is not a big deal trust me just do ur hw before the test and do ok on the tests and easy quizes. ull do ok

This prof is very helpful and super esay. Just study all stuff which he review before every test, u will be fine and more supprised on your test, 90% is the same in review just exchange the number. Easy A. let take him!
Professor Alemu is a very good teacher. I recommend him to anyone. He should have more classes available. I wish i could take my statistics class with him. Wish all teachers were this good.
At first I really hated this class, taken during winter break, because I was having a hard time with the material, then one day I stayed after class and asked him how I could improve my test scores and he gave me really great advice. It showed me that if you need help you need to ask. Hes a good teacher and is helpful, just take the initiative.
hes a good teacher but goes to fast through the lecs
hes a good teacher but goes to fast through the lecs
He is a pretty friendly teacher. He hands out a lot of homework(even on weekends). I am currently taking his class(Fall 10). I just think that he goes through the material to quickly. If you can get get a good grade with this teacher. You can take any math teacher on! He requires a lot of determination on you're part to succeed. Over Eehh..
I absolute love this teacher. He is by far the best math instructor I've ever had!
At first i wasnt sure whether to take his class or not. But i gave it a try in 110, I discovered he's a GREAT professor and very friendly he can be strict at times but as long as u pay attention in class and do hw you'll do fine. He is always willing to help. I am currently taking I 115 with him and i like the class. I highly recommend taking his c
DESPITE WHAT I HEARD I GAVE HIM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT SO I TOOK HIS CLASS BUT HIS ACCENT IS TOO THICK ND TO TOP IT ALL OF HE GOES THROUGH HIS LECTURES FAST. GOOD PERSON BUT DONT RECOMEND HIM AT ALL SORRY
when i registered for his class I was worried about his accent. But I was able to understand him anyways. He teaches at a moderate pace and helps you if you ask for it. He helps you understand the subject to the best of his abilities. This is no easy class. Put in the effort and you should do fine.
he is a really good professor. he teaches at a good pace and doesnt rush through the chapters. i though i wouldnt understand him because of his accent, but i did. his test are easy and so is the hw, but you have to put effort into it. i recommend this teacher. he is willing to help with whatever questions you may have.
really good at teaching and making sure his students understand the work!! he doesn't like when students are late so come to class on time! his quizzes are sometimes worksheets or classwork. he is awesome
Very helpful if you ask, takes his time teaching and doesn?t rush anyone. If you have further question after class he will take the time to help you understand the material. Over all his a good teacher.
Study the Quizzes bcuz they are vry similar to the Tests. He does rush to leave after evry class. We had a Final Proj. so recommend to learn excel/minitab.Class avg low C in which is dangerous to have right before the Final which is 30% of your grade! Math Lab+Doing the Homework+making friends in class to go over the math problems, helped me! =)
really prepared me for math 115. Very approachable professor.
I had taken Mr. Alemu's class for Math 110 and was satisfied with his teaching approach and methods to instructing the material. So I had registered for his Math 115 and passed with flying colors! He IS a great instructor IF the student ALSO puts its part in REALLY dedicating & TRYING to understand the material. Definitely recommend him!
Take him if you want a fair teacher. He gives you two breaks for each class. I took him during winter, and every week we had a lot of homework! However, quizzes were not that difficult and all material was covered in the lectures! He goes over quizzes to make sure you learn. Overall great teacher. I got an A. Takes off lowest test scores
I toke Maths 125 in Summer with him, I got an A (lot of homework, but rewarding). Stats: Fall Semester, I got an A (still lots of homework)
Took him for Trig and Calc I. A very fair professor who is passionate about his field! His accent takes time to get used to but isn't an issue after a week or two. He tells you indirectly what's going to be on the exams and expects you to do homework (hint). Office hours were never a problem. Overall good quality and will even give extra credit!
gives hw for each section (20-30 probs each section l around 6 sect. per chapter) collects hw on test day. he goes fast so dont miss any days he rarely takes attendance but if you miss class or day dream u will fall behind because he covers two sections a day on classes that only meet twice a week. hes a good teacher work hard and you will get an A
Not even my high school teacher taught as well as him! I'm in my 2nd yr of college & I avoided getting a math class I decided to take mr alemu & Ipassed now I'm gonna add him for the next level. He is fair & easy don't miss class because he covers a lot in one day! Deffinetly would recomend him!
If math is not your thing I would not recommend this teacher. He rushes through lectures, and can be rude when answering questions... If you're good at math then you'll be okay
Professor Alemu goes really fast through the sections, his accent and scribbling doesn't help. Lots of hw but plenty of time to do it. His tests are exactly like his handouts and quizzes, learn his handouts and you'll get an A on his tests.
I pretty like this teacher! I think he is an Indian~Indian is very good at math. when I take his lecture, I can feel that he is very good at math and he is intelligent! however, his accent is ...so that sometimes you can not understand him very well. but do not worry.his notes is really helpful. and he will also review and give us example test
Statistics is not difficult, he has a unique way of teaching it, I would recommend him only because he gives practice question sheets that are VERY similar to the ones no the exam. HW is not worth much, but will help at the end for your grade. He is really understanding and helpful if you ask him for help.
his lectures are very fast pace so be alert and take notes since exams are base off that. Calculus is not hard, but if you dont put in the work you will be that group that ends up dropping the course. Therefore, do your HW and study. The only complaint I have is that majority of us do not finish our exams or are able to check due to limited time.
He goes through his lectures super fast and his thick accent doesn't help so you have to really pay attention. the slightest distraction will throw you off. the only good thing about this class is that the test are straight from the handouts he gives
Okay. Honestly when Alemu lectures in class I get the vibe that he knows what he is doing, but does not know how to translate that to the students. Pretty much the whole class was failing. If your good at math then you'll understand his lectures, if not... well... you should consider going to the math lab.
I'd say Alemu is a straightforward professor. If you pay attention to the things he points out that will be on your quizzes and exams (mostly the worksheets he gives out during class), you'll definitely pass his class with flying colors. Hwk is not worth much, but it'll help you boost your grade a little bit.
Summer session was fast, but he managed to cover the entire book while still having time to review whatever the class needed help on.
Took him during fall semester got a C. I'm so happy I took him, show some effort and participate and you can pass! very kind man.
He is really hard to understand besides having an accent he writes really sloppy making it harder to understand what his teaching. He doesn't engages the students so just there copying. Really difficult course
He is not organized he just teaches all over. Meaning he doesn't goes by section by section he teaches the whole chapter at once. Hard to understand not helpful
He walks around during class to see if you are actually working on the problems he writes on the board. It could be really intimidating but also helpful. If you having a hard time in his class I won't recommend him he just gets harder over time
I regret everyday during the semester that I didn't dropped the class. He was just awful personally speaking. His teaching style was just not for me. He writes really small and sloppy just all over the place. Participation sure does matter and tends to pick on students randomly. I won't recommend this professor/class with other hard classes
Great teacher, he is very caring. Just make sure to your part, and he will do his.
Everything that you face throughout the semester is stated within the first day. The class requires near perfect attendance, great effort, and most of all- a great attitude. Don't have any of these? Don't take Alemu. He simplifies math and is a genius.
I took him because people say he was easy and because he provides a study guide. Maybe he does but not for math 260 he test you on two chapters and does a quiz for every chapter cover. He provides homework for each chapter and attendance does matters!! Although he stops taking attendance after the 5 th week of class he does knows who's there
If you're not good at math I probably won't recommend him. He doesn't care if your passing the class or failing. One thing I would say pay attention during his class he would embarrass you if he catches you on your phone or falling asleep. He doesn't even know his students by name (only a few)
Mr. Alemur currently taking for calculus 2. I love his lectures and notes. Very good notes, very detailed. His accent is a bit thick and it might be difficult to understand the first few weeks, after that your able to understand him better. Very clear on what will be on exam. Study. Yes study guide. He know his material well. One of the best.
Like many have mentioned before, he does not care if you are passing or failing, does not offer extra credit opportunities for those who are struggling, has an accent which can be hard to understand. He often makes simple mistakes when teaching/doing problems on the board and often times these mistakes are not corrected. Would not recommend.
I took professor Alemu in summer 2016. His lectures are pretty intense, so it's important to always show up on time and ready to learn. We covered 3 sections of a chapter everyday and had a quiz at the end of the week. He has an accent but it'll be understandable in a day or two. Homework isn't really point heavy, but he recommends it for the tests
Very good professor. He has a bit of an accent but not much of a problem. Reviews homework and gives out study guides for exam. Exams an quizes are planned ahead of time so no surprises there. Attendence is important, a lot of students missed class and didnt catch up so make sure you ask questions. Overall good math teacher. Will take again.
He takes attendance randomly and assigns lots if homework. He cares about his student and enjoy teaching math. Although he is not really intelligent, he tries his best to teach his student calculus. You will only use textbook for homework. His tests are based on his lecture and very easy.
great teacher for those who are willing to learn would've received higher grade if I did hw and studied for quizzes. he gives practice tests so do them and make sure to study them bc its v similar to actual tests. collects hw every time tests are taken. tells u when quizzes and tests are going to be taken ahead of time so be ready! dont skip class!
Overall great teacher but he like others have had his own teaching method. Being absent a couple of times won't effect you unless you're bad at math. Really mellow tone voice and if you do the homework and understand his lectures then you'll pass the test.
He gets straight to the point, takes problems straight out of the book and does them on the board. Collects homework on test days, 4 tests/4 quizzes & a final. Drops lowest test grade but does tell you in advance when the test/quizzes are. Takes attendance randomly. Lots of notes, a good amount of daily homework and his class can get boring.
He's not the friendliest or caring, but his teaching style is very straight forward and organized. He's a fair grader and gives study guides for each chapter, which tests are based on. He curves tests when the majority of the class doesn't do well &offers extra credit. Lots of homework due every exam day, but it's for your own good.
I took him for summer 2017, and he was pretty easy. He gives study guides for each test and extra credit with helps your grade.
Ok so I have taken a ton of math at elac cause I'm a computer science major, I have had many teachers and alemu is the ONLY teacher I will look for on the schedule to take the next math I need. I have taken him 3 separate times and I feel very prepared for the next level after I'm done. He's really approachable and teaches several approaches.
Professor Alemu really cares about his students, always encourages questions, and will explain the concept until you understand. He gives quizzes halfway through each chapter. We had 4 tests & drops the lowest. His tests & quizzes reflect the examples we do in class, study those and you should be good. He gives alot of homework. Nice guy overall.
Very straight forward, drops lowest test score, no hoops to jump through.
Writes very small and very sloppy. Talks unclear and fast. I only had him for the first day of winter session, but that was enough for me to drop. Advice: don't take during winter, it's too much all at once.
Professor Alemu has a clear grading criteria; follow it and you'll pass. Winter session is very fast paced but that is obvious since it is a 5 week course. He is a really good instructor, definitely recommend.
He is one of the best professors in the mathematics department of ELAC, which is the best department in the whole college. A lot of help from them with tutors as well.
Very good instructor, I would take if again if i had the chance.
Prof Alemu is a great professor, but only if you're actually paying attention. If you don't pay any attention and skip class, you really won't do great in the class. He is always open to answering questions and he genuinely knows and cares about the stuff he teaches.
He is a great professor. He is caring and will explain the concept until you understand. Quizzes and tests are easy if you pay attention in class and do the homework.
Alemu obviously cares for his students and tries his best to teach them the material. However, he is a bit unorganized in his teaching method (ex: not clear which formula is applied to which problem). He also writes very small and messy. His exams are pretty hard and I dont feel like he prepares you enough for it. I would avoid taking him.
Very Patient. Quizzes are not hard, exam drop one low. The final study guide all come from quizzes and test. A lot of homework, if you take seriously to do the homework, you will pass exam easy.
He is a good professor. Quizzes and texts are super easy. He may refer to the book or the exercises he mentioned in class. The only thing is, he has heavy accent and the writing is not clear sometimes. Anyway, he is a great professor.
He is pretty hard to understand at times. Usually is more verbal with explaining the material and moves very fast, but if you are having trouble he will help you. He won't tolerate talking or phone usage. All homework is in the book and its pretty tedious. Tests are pretty difficult you have to know the material to pass.
Professor Alemu did have a strong accent but if you get used to it, it doesn't really matter. His standard is strict ,but the quizes and exams are all from the examples he gave on the class and homework. Therefore it is quite easy to get an A. There will be one quiz and one exam for every chapter,so you have to work on it.
Professor Alemu goes really fast on lectures. Ask questions if needed. Is willing to help during office hours. A lot of HW, but it's essential to pass the tests. This class is more of a self study class. Do not recommend taking him if you struggle in math.
Professor Alemu was one of the best math teachers I have ever had! His lectures were clear and concise, actively participate in class and he will favor you. Gives out extra credit opportunities, very helpful any time of the day. Plus, this professor is passionate about his work and that makes class a lot more fun. Do your job and you'll pass.
Dawit Alemu Is the worst profesor at east Los Angeles college. My class started at 7:30am he will get to class at 7:45am. He would always rush durning lecture really hard to understand his language And Messi writing .... and dont expect him to have a study day with the class before test or final because he the type that wont give study days.
4 Tests, 4 Quizzes, no midterm, 1 Final, gives study guides. Class started off almost full, finished with about 14 people left. His accent is a bit hard to understand and writes small on the board. Does give some extra credit, grades thoroughly with hw. Would arrive at least 10min late and be done with lecture 10min late.
His accent was no issue at all. He goes FAST, so if you can't self-study this class is not for you. Every chapter is different and loaded with info, that's what makes this class hard--it is stressful. Very patient with people's lack of participation and he will try his best to help you pass the class. Lots of drops but that's expected for Calc 2
Not a great teacher a lot of quizzes and test
Dont take him for any Calculus class. He gives you a small amount of time on quizzes which are easy but you no time to check your work, so you will finish when he says times up. His writing is pretty bad, cant understand what he writes on wall. If he didn't give quizzes he would be great.
His lecture is clear and easy to understand! He is always ready to help. Yes he will give a lot of homework, quizzes and test for each chapter, even though they are easy. The good thing is, he always reminds you one week or more before the quizzes or tests. As long as you do the homework and exercises he gives in class, you will got A easily!
Very nice professor! He makes everything easy to understand. Have quiz, test, and HW for each chapter and one final exam (questions are straightforward). Not a tough grader and always gives extra credits to make sure you can get an A.
MESSY HANDWRITING. Test heavy - his exams feel like they're endless. Provides a lot of homework. Attendance is mandatory. Skip one lecture and you'll be lost. He doesn't care for his students at all. He's really rude and unprofessional
Prof Alemu is ok. Tests are toooo long for a Cal 3 class. Lots of hw but it doesn't take up many grades. His final was so long that it was traumatic. But he is lenient with grading and drops lowest grades. Still would not recommend
Do NOT take him unless you are ready to spend hours at home trying to figure out the math on your own. His writing is SOO messy it's insane & he has an accent so you wont understand what he is saying. Calc 3 is not easy math and all he does is write on &on so quickly. He does like 2-3 sections a day if he can and his tests have soo many questions!!
This professor goes pretty fast. He is very strict about his testing policy. He accused the whole class of cheating and if he suspects YOU of cheating, get ready to be embarrassed since instead of talking to you privately, he will call you out in front of everyone. His handwriting is tough to understand and he is all about his work so be serious
Heavy workload, rapid pace, messy writing, accented speech, strict testing procedures with camera requirement. Gets a bit distracting at times, instant 0's without camera, no questions asked. Kind of tries to see if students are keeping up, not really. Tbh, he takes his job too seriously, often leaving his students to figure it out for themselves.
This Professor has issues, it's obvious he doesn't want to be friends with his students. If he thinks your cheating on his test he will give you a zero on the problem. His tests are not the same as his lectures which are also hard to understand. Very messy handwriting speeds through 2-3 sections a day, super hard grader. Don' take this professor.
As long as you show up for class and actually try, you'll pass. He was very kind and gave a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Taking the class online, I noticed alot of things, first his handwriting was messy, which led me to try and figure out what he was writing mid lectures. his explanations for the examples are very lackluster, IF you are planning to take a online course you will have trouble keeping up with him, please be warned
He is very nice, for the class, we have quizzes and tests, but before the test, he will give 10pts extra credits, and directly add the tests, 100% recommend
I would give a higher rating if it weren't for his very messy handwriting and strict grading rules(must show work in a very particular way which can be annoying and lead to deductions) He also has a strong accent but this didnt really bother me but something to look out for. Tip: Take advantage of your SI leaders! shout out to Kimberly. EC offered
Professor Alemu has a strict grading system and messy handwriting, but the lectures are informative if you stay engaged. Try using unstuck study alongside the textbook to prepare for exams.
If you're taking math 230, I would totally recommend him. Especially for a short term like winter or summer. He helps you a lot to understand in the short amount of time!
He is an awesome professor.
Prof. Alemu is very difficult, I would not recommend taking classes with him ever, his handwriting is very messy and he writes all over the board and you never understand what he is doing on the board, and every time I asked a question he always answered everything but my question, overall terrible teacher.
This is the worst professor in ELAC. If you want to take math for transfer then take Daniel Judge or Gia Nguyen who are million times better than that delusional scum. His class is an utter mess and waste of time not worth taking. He is so unorganized and jumps to conclusions by rushing all units in a single day.
Honestly, it's Calc, so the subject is tough. Just make sure you pay attention in class, and if you get confused, go to office hours or SI. He is straightforward, so he puts his part; you just gotta put yours. Godspeed fellow STEM
