Easy fun class if you're not afraid of public speaking. Teacher is real reasonable and easy to talk to. A lot of reading, but she gives a study guide before each midterm and rarely a quiz.

Teacher is cool. work load is average, there are some quizzes that she warns you about and give you a study sheet for. There are 3 speeches and one last speech/research project. <-- not hard at all. She gave a couple of extra credit points. Quizzes can be hard so take practice quiz online with book.

She was very nice and very helpful. She was also very understanding and truly cared about all her students in her class. I looked forward to her class, even when I had to wake up early. Treat her respectfully and she will treat you the same way!

Very easy to contact and get help. Formally with corporate America, she has an interesting viewpoint on public speaking. She has shown me more so than any professor, a desire to see her students succeed. If you have a problem with not coming to class or doing so late, your grade will reflect that. Great teacher in an informative class. Very helpful, accessible and available if necessary and straightforward with what to expect from the class. The workload was all pretty easy and not too frequent and while there was a lot of assigned reading, because of study guides before tests and her succinct lectures, it was hardly essential to success.

I truly enjoyed her class. Her teaching benefited me greatly in other classes, my fear of public speaking dissapeared after taking her class. She does pick favorites, so make sure to get on her good side right away. She gives a lot of extra credit and she teaches in a very creative way, the class doesnt consist of just boring lecture.

She was helpful but very emotional and takes it personal when you dont read, there are no tests but she talks a lot about her politics and empasizes how great she is at everything. read the book and prepare for your speeches.

The best I have ever had. I agree with post, only non performers have to worry. You work, you get rewarded. Will go out of her way to help and always tries to get us to voice our opinion even if it conflicts with hers. I wish all of my professors were like her. I also wish they looked like her!!

At first it seemed a little hard, but she has you do soo much extra credit, it will get you an easy A. Also go to her office and talk to her, and she will like you and give u more extra credit. HIGHLUY RECOMMEND! And you actually learn stuff.

Good class. I disliked the second to last speech that she assigned. It was difficult to choose one of her own topics, and then give an opinion about it. Overall, the class was good. She definately cares about her students, which made the class more enjoyable.

I diagree with the comment about her being fake. I spent time with her during office hours and all she did was listen to me and my problems. None of my other teachers spend time like thisthis. Only those who don't listen (class she teaches), don't get it! I got over 100% too she was fair and clear in directions. Take her if you can.

She is not easy, but I have had harder!She gives tons of extra credit so if you mess up you can still make up!Best of all she will take whatever time u need to explain or give u extra help.I no longer feel like I am going to kill myself when speech time rolls around. She is very dedicated to her students both on professional and a personal level, and easy to learn from if you're willing to put in even a minimal amount of effort. She only requires 2 individual speeches and a few group projects, all of which are fairly easy and straightforward. I highly reccommend her class to anyone with the desire to learn.

I thought she was a good teacher. she helped me overcome my fears of speech. i thought the activites were fun at times. the only thing that bothered me was that she did in fact talk about herself a lot and her political opinions did get in the way. but i would recommend her to other students.

first off no one wants to do speech class but taking her class was really great. 2 individual speeches 2 group speeches and quiz'. Great class speak up and dont be afraid to share your opinion and you'll do fine. I enjoyed this class very much.

One of the BEST teachers I have ever had. Today was our last class and I swear soooo many people were crying. She is a good teacher and has a good heart. If you want to put the time and effort into the class, she will help you get an A. She loves students who want to succeed. Her class pertains to real life situations that will help you.

I really was not looking forward to taking this class because I am not one for giving speeches but honestly I learned a ton about public speaking and about giving a great speech, and my confidence grew tremendously. Mrs. Bean has a wonderful heart and she is a great teacher. Best I had this semester hands down. Just do your work!

Great teacher! Very passionate about teaching and actually cared that the student did well. Was willing to help the student out when they needed it and was very understanding in situations. Almost didn't make it into class. Now really happy that i did. Just stick to it and do your best and you'll do fine. =D

One of my favorite professors. She is very nice and the classwork is very manageable. The group assignments are a lot of fun and I enjoyed the class. She really cares about her students and I am glad I took time to talk to her outside of class. I highly suggest taking her class.

Bean is a very cool teacher. She is hard but it is worth the work, you get to read all of these speeches that you would have never read and give your opinion about them and see what others think. The class was a lot of fun and I would say that if you need to take COMM 351 take her you will be so happy that you did. Also she is very understanding.

This class had one midterm, a final, 2 speeches, a 5 page final paper, and online quiz every week. This is not an easy A class, but if you come to class everyday and write good notes, you'll do well on her tests. The speeches were not hard since you pretty much choose what you want to do your speech on. She really is a great teacher though!

On the first day of class I was slightly intimidated, but in all honesty, I absolutely loved the class. I truly felt that the class was handed to you on a silver platter. Dawn told us everything we needed to know in order to get a good grade, all you had to do was show up and do the work. I would highly recommend this professor and her class.

This is the most beneficial class I have ever taken. The lessons derived from Dawn's unconventional, but completely efficient lesson plan have honestly changed my life and given me the tools to communicate effectively in all situations. Dawn is a very nice woman and teaches at a corporate level. Yes, she does use a lot of stories from her life, but I guess that is what makes it interesting right? There is a moderate amount of paper work from the reader, but nothing that is unreasonable. One formal speech and one creative group final. That's it! attending class is usually 10 pts

Grateful that she curves exams. Reading load is not too heavy, but she checks your reading with online quizzes. You learn a lot about history--I hate history, but this is one of the only ways through which I can learn it. Overall, you learn a lot. Two exams (all essays, open book!), two speeches, one long paper, handful of quizzes.

To me, she is a great teacher, she is not the type to sit around on their butt and just give you a grade. She comes from a strong business background and expects the best from her students. If you dont like to strive for YOUR best, then i advise you to not take her, she gives her students 110%, she expects the same back. She is tough, but fair.

Let my start by saying this class is designed for failure. Dawn is a good teacher and is very knowledgable on her subject, but she expects way too much from her class. There is NEVER enough time to finish the midterms she created and she has basically overloaded this course with work that is impossible to meet her standards. Good luck.

Reader is divided into sections. U'll compare speeches to the def's, theories, policies learned in that section. She tells u everything u need, so write it all down. Follow grade sheet for paper & project. Use blue book & watch to pace yourself on midterms. Participate in class daily! Overall a great professor.

I've taken 2 classes from this prof., and I can confidently say that her classes are the most rewarding I've had. The depth of preparation she brings each day with her to class prove her to be the very benchmark of a professional. The class is time consuming and often difficult; but your work pays exponential dividends in knowledge and experience.

The first day of class I just knew I was destined to fail. The class work is SUPER overwhelming if you DO NOT pace yourself. I still managed to pass her exams with flying colors (a lot of preparation was required & attending the study session was helpful too). In the end, I appreciated her challenge. She will change your views on politics.

Best Teacher I have ever had. She makes you really think about how people make speeches. Most fulfilling class I have taken as a Comm major. No other class can compare. You get what you up into the class. If you give it your all you will excel, you slack off or not willing to put time and effort in to this class you get the grade you deserve.

I don't think I ever worked so hard for a B in my college life. However, it was the best feeling B I ever earned. The most rewarding class in my 4 years. You learn more than just public speaking. You learn politics, history, guidelines for work, resumes, comm etiquette, persuasion, and a five dollar rule for ethics and integrity. Dawn is the best!

I've taken two of Dawn's classes and as other people have stated they were a lot of work. However, the work you complete in Dawn's class is extremely helpful and useful to you as person hoping to get a "real job" post graduation. Take her class & do the work, you'll be just fine and happy at the end of the semester.

This is clearly not an easy class to get an A in, but very rewarding to be in. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A because that is not going to happen. Wow is. All I can say! Have had a few classes with her and every time I am wowed with her knowledge, hard work, and enthusiasm. She presents both a liberal and conservative side so only take her classes if you are not interested in hearing political correctness. She tells it like it is!

I agree... I think she works for the government on special operations that are secretive. She is great with her political predictions. I took her class 3 semesters ago and her predictions on politics have come to fruition. Won't forget her social justice vs. equal justice examples. I'm am equal justice guy because of her! P.S. real sharp dresser!

I think she's been in CIA, FBI, secret service or military. She knows a ton of the behind the scenes stuff. She is knowledgeable, bright, insightful. She seems like she was trained in special ops. Been in military myself so I know she can kick butt with a simple blow. Watched her and noticed certain military traits and comments. Worth taking!

She teaches a different way. Lots of class participation. Shes a no political correctness person; tells it like is! I learned the 5$ rule I'll carry for life. She's the best and yes she's hard. Take her if you really want to learn life lessons. Don't take her if you want to hear only things you like. She teaches you a way to not be a bumper sticker

I am loving this class. I had not interest in the topic but I am learning so much about politics, history, organizations, real life lessons, at the same time as Public speaking. Used to hate politics and history but she has made it fun and interesting. She even helps us with job stuff (interviewing and resume's).

Oh Dawn... She is a very educated and passionate woman. Don't take this class if you are a slacker, she demands SO MUCH out of you, but its for a good reason!
