Her class is challenging but she's a great teacher. If you complete and hand in the assignments you'll do fine. She gives great feedback on essays and is really entertaining! Great personality and positive.
Woman with a great personality and wants to help and wants you to succeed, but!! she is a very hard grader, if you want to put the time in on the essays and want to learn alot.....she is the teacher for you!!!I would not recommend the class :)
I thought she was very contradictory. She tell you about a concept, then when you go and apply it to an essay, she contradicts herself. Plus she is a very hard grader. I would not suggest her if you want to take an english class.
She is one of those teachers that you want for every subject|: engaging, imaginative, loves the subject she teaches, respects her students, etc. etc. etc. Forget the Zero, get with the Hero [ine]!
she's alright... kinda weird

Very cool teacher and not to hard of a grader. i wrote all my papers the night b4 and got a's and b's not bad. very enthusiastic. participate and you will do just fine. let her spark your intrests.
She is a Great teacher. Very helpful and energetic. She gives great feedback. She is somewhat of a hard teacher, but as long as you do the homework and pay attention you should do fine. She's awesome!
In 2A I liked have her for my first class. She is very considerate, some due dates she may have to sqeeze but she make it up but making the vocab quiz a take home!!! If you have issuse wiwth an essay just communicate with her she'll always try to understand. I think she is an open book to anyone's opinion. She's awesome.
There was a teacher teaching this class her...and she was fantastic and got a promotion. As soon as this teacher stepped in I knew I was in trouble. She picks favorites, helpful only if she likes you, not inspiring in the least. Overall, I wouldn't want to be in her class ever again.
I was bummed when Bocchicchio had to drop the class but I found Blunk to be a very fun teacher. She lets you curse in your essays, how can you go wrong? As long as you show that you're interested then you'll do fine. Easy grader, energetic. I Recommend.
Excellent teacher, a lot of writing, but an easy grader. I don't recommend her to those who are shy, as you will find yourself speaking in front of the class, or even to a camera. Just be interested in the subject matter and you will do fine.
Sheis very lively and energetic and loud. She is the funniest English teacher ever. There is no way you can fail with all the possible extra credit. A class that you can learn alot and do alot of work but get an A. Don't be afraid of English because this teacher makes it all seem fun and interesting. Dang i wish all my teachers were like her.
she's really fun and can be quite spontaneous. i always look foward to her classes. it's fun and interesting, and that pretty much keeps you from zoning off. her assignments aren't hard, but it does ask for some of your time. anyway, blunk is awesome. PERIOD i highly recommend her to anyone
Totally loved her! She is funny and VERY helpful she spent a lot of time with students after class explaining things, awesome!
i enjoyed this class most of all. great instructore who seems to enjoy what she does. hottie! that helps on those yuck mornings. great energy, this one.
Cannot say a bad thing about Dawn. Great Teacher! Knows her subject and very easy to get along with, approachable. Recommended.
wonderful person is just the icing on the cake. knows her stuff and makes it all interesting is a fine recipe for great education. blunk is a seasoned veteran of english and pedagogy. an asset to the system despite its serious flaws. i don't know how she does it!
Worst prof. I've had in three semesters. Not clear on assignments, hard grader, and does'nt help students out unless they beg her. Avoid.
Horrible professor.
She is an unfair teacher. Recieved zero credit due to her overly restricted guidelines. Offered no assistance.
There are many bad things I would say about Blunk!!!! I have a 4.0 and she says i have D papers. She marked me from an a paper to c- due to a font! NEVER NEVER TAKE HER!!! IF YOU DON'T mind getting an f then take her class. I have emailed her multiple times and every time she is ruder and ruder! Needs to retire!
Unfair and unhelpful!! Stay far, far away!
a great starter writing class for learning how to write at the college level. plus, dawn is a wonderful and inciteful person. needless to say, i enjoyed the experience overall.
Ms. Blunk is very passionate about what she teaches. A lot of writing assignments, but I like her.
Wow. Horrible professor. Not helpful in the least bit, unfair grader, not even a kind or sweet person. She is often rude to students, and is always late to office hours!
i struggle with english but she helped me out greatly. definetely not a snooze class as she has great personality. she grades fairly. lots of HW though. interesting in class assignment. lots of media stuff
Excellent teacher! Very fair with grading, not a lot of reading (77pg novella), always opportunities for extra credit. Busy work, but it helps concepts stick for further use. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I'm an A student, and I worked hard in her class but got a B. She was unhelpful, and usally missed her office hours. Avoid.
Excellent teacher! I took her 1A class and I really feel as though my writing improved because of it. She is very passionate about english and it makes her classes much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this professor!
If you are an engineering major, stay away from this professor. I received all A's and B's throughout high school in english and once i got into her class she would fail me on all of my papers, stating only that I did 'too much telling and not enough showing' in my papers. I still have no clue what she was trying to say to me. pff english majors.
My first mistake in taking this course was taking it in the Summer (only 6 weeks)! I first thought that she was an unreasonable teacher, but realized its just a hard class. The last week she offered a lot of extra credit to help get grades up. If your not good with deadlines avoid this teacher! If you work hard she works with you to keep grades up.
great professor, very helpful
She was very unhelpful. She doesnt use her lecture time very well to explain things. She gets off track and towards the end of class she will speed through important material. Absolutely REDICULOUS grader! If you do not do one question on the homework you get ZERO credit for the whole thing. Syllabus is very confusing. Unclear in emails also.
Horrible! Worst prof. I 've had at sierra. I have taken 60 units, and I've received A's in every class except hers! I worked hard, but she was not a fair grader. Not helpful, and never shows up for office hours. Avoid like the plague!
Terrible! Not a fair grader, and not a helpful person. I worked really hard in this class, and she still gave me a B, which was the first B I've recieved in 6 semesters. Run for your lives!
she's a tough teacher, but this is college, bout time people stop wiping our ass's. all she wants is for you to pass. i learned a lot from her and she kept me motivated throughout the entire semester. i highly recommend her.
Great teacher. She was helpful and I learned a lot from her. She has a great personality and works with you to get your grade up. She does assign a lot of homework but it was all useful information. I hated English and always struggled but this class was great.
She does not allow for personal creativity. Please do not disagree with her, it will cost you. We used to argue about specific stories in the textbook that I simply did not agree with. She was fresh out of college, just finish earning her Master's degree, she was really cocky. So glad that I did not take her for 1B.
Got over a 100% in the class but have NO idea how.. didn't enjoy class at all!
This teacher is useless and refuses to help you. Her style of teaching is to hand you your book and hand you your assignmets and tell you to do it. In fact if you can call what she does teaching i think my 2yr old has a job already and can do better than Mrs. Blunk could evr hope to do. I wouldnt suggest her class to me worst enemy.
Dawn was by far my favorite teacher! shes tough but its all worth it. You use your book a lot and have lots of homework however it will only help with your essays. i would highly recommend her...she makes class fun and interesting. and definitely a college level class, cant get away with lame excuses. but shes really a fabulous teacher.
No good. I've never been good with english but i was apalled at how strict she was. I had to withdraw because she missed class one time and she assigned our first rough draft due the next class and I didn't realize it. I was not able to finish my essay and the resulted in automatically failing the class. BOOOOO
she's a great teacher. I don't know why she's getting so much crap from people. i think it's the people who did not listen or clean their ears that have a problem with her.
She bases her class around media and pop culture, so that is very interesting. Cancels class from time to time. Hard class. Turns in your essay a month after you turn it in. Doesn't stay on track, pushed everything back 2 weeks, very stressful at the end. Don't really know how to "write" to her, not that much help. not bad but not good. def noteasy
Dawn is down right awesome. Be prepared. This class is extremely HOMEWORK HEAVY. But it's all about learning and growing. She is a riot in class. Very thought provoking. She has made me enjoy reading and writing again. Though this class is very hard I am so grateful to have her for my teacher. She is too awesome. Very animated.
Dawn is hillarious she is a crack up for my 8am class! She is straighforward with what she wants and is very helpful! Her work for english 1A was all media based and we looked at advertisements and you tube videos, it was so fun and easy!
I don't even know where to start!Terrible experience. She is rude, uncooperative, and her expectations are flat out ridiculous. She cares more about if MLA format is correct than the actual content of your essay. I felt like I walked into every essay blindly. Her instructions are unclear and she doesn't answer questions.worst prof. I've ever had
She is the worst professor I've ever had in my entire life. She doesn't care about the efforts, has favorites in class, & does not understand the difficulties of disabled students. She is a very hard grader. She might be amusing in the class with her jokes and fun ways to learn grammar. But trust me it's not worth it.
She is not worth being an english teacher. She will give you no credit if you turned in everything at the right time, but submitted your correction sheet a day later. I got a 95% on my paper but she gave me no credit because I was sick, and emailed her the correction sheet. I regret taking her class.
She grades hard. But literally just follow the format the way she wants it not the way youve been taught to do it. she gives lots of extra credit options. she lets you out early which is nice. do the homework and you can pass the class. dont turn in your essays late or your dead. overall i like her. just do work and follow format.
DO NOT disagree with her. She takes it personally & works against you from then on. Ridiculously strict & not willing to work with students. Too much media for online class-blogs, video threads, & BB posts. You don't learn anything from her. She throws essays at you & expects you to understand. Online class is unorganized. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
The syllabus speaks for the level of difficulty. The class was a ton of work. Professor Blunk is not flexible at all but does offer extra credit, if you can find the time to do it. Instructions were not clear. I found myself reading over her instructions MANY times.
She was amazingly helpful and I reccomend her to anyone I learned so much from her!
I love this professor she is very nice and crazy but a little strict when grading. She is a good English teacher and i feel that i truly understand media now. She is hilarious and funny throughout the whole class and nows how to keep the class awake! GO DAWN BLUNK!!!
I really liked her, I was not much of an english person, but she kind of brought it out in me. Very easy class, just have to do the essays and not be lazy and make sure you meet page count because you will fail the essay ( I did :-/). Anyways, excellent teacher, loved the energy and the style!
This is the worst experience in school I have ever had.Her class is unorganized, and her teaching is nonexistant. She asks you to do a lot of unneccessary tech stuff that really has no place in the class. She is unhelpful and really teaches nothing. If you are looking to learn then look elsewhere. Her instrucions are terrible and she holds a grudges.
hard I will never going to take another class with her. Not clear and helpful.
Decided to retake this class, but in the summer this time so I can transfer. I did not pick her, but the other teacher dropped. This class is horrible!! WAY too much online blogging and blackboard stuff. Seriously, a LOT of EXTRA work and not a lenient or fair grader. You could write an entire 7 page paper and get an F" for one minor mistake.RUN!!
Dawn is an awesome person outside of class, but is harder to get along with during class. You won't be asleep during her class but meeting her work expectations are near to inpossible. If you do 90% of the extra credit given and at least get over a C- on all of her insane pappers, you can get an A in her class. Prompts and formatting are crucial!
I honestly liked Miss Blunk. She was clear of what she expected of the class. There is a lot of reading & blogging to do which seems scary at first but once you get the hang of it its fairly easy. She comes off as strict & intimidating at first but she lightens up after she gets to know you. As long as you read and follow directions you 'll be ok!
Honestly, this was a really diffucult course. I the beginning, it too everything in me not to drop. Dawn is very funny and out going, but not flexible or an easy grader. For it being a summer class, there was way too much stuff added in there that would make a regular semester troublesome. With hours of writing papers, and extra credit, I passed.
She is very outgoing and funny, but if you do not like English, then you wont like her class. She is a very strict grader. She is very vigilant for mechanic errors. I don't like English, so I am having a hard time in her class. The positive thing I can say about this course is that it teaches you to be more responsible. That's all!
I absolutely loved Mrs. Blunk. She is very outgoing and energized which kept me involved with the class. I can see where people think her class is hard, but she gives out TONS of extra credit. WRITE FEMINIST! Thats the best way to get an A. I got A's on all 6 essays. Follow her directions, make page count and format correctly and you'll pass.
Mrs. Blunk was a very bubbly teacher. So if you're bubbly, she'll love you. very easy class as long as you turn in the essays. She gives extra credit like its candy.Only problem was that she grades pretty harshly. So be prepared.
She is nice teacher but doesn't really help you. Her essay prompts are very confusing i am having trouble. she gives you lot extra credit. lot of reading.
I had Mrs. Blunk for 1A and went back to her over the summer for 1B. She is still the most awesome teacher I have ever had. She is more than willing to help you, she is hilarious and excited to be in class, and she only wants the best for her students. I highly highly recommend her for any english. Lots of reading and writing, but that's english.
If you disagree with Dawn, she will prevent you from getting the high grades that you deserve. I am extremely good at writing essays and she has refused to give me an essay grade higher than an 80%, and gave me a 60%, too. I usually am graded A's on my writing assignments, hence being placed in this class on the first try. She is clueless and rude.
Professor Blunk is an engaging and insightful person. Her prompts cause the student to think at a deep, and critical level. A level many people cannot attain (i.e. name calling). Most students will find this class difficult due to complexity of the prompts and possible ethical dilemmas. This is not a "sleeper" class, and requires lots of attention.
Creates her own grading difficult to understand. One mistake on page count could give you a zero no make up on major essays.
She is a very nice lady, I am writing this when I am actually suppose to be doing one of her essays, I decided to rate her because of how ridiculous and demanding her essays are. Her grading system is ridiculous, I typed a fantastic paper and received a D on it, you MUST do all extra credit and attend every class or miss 3 classes and you fail.
Professor Blunk is very left in her views. That being said she grades fair and she is very energetic in class. If you want to pass her class just do her work on time. Meet PAGE count if you don't you automatically fail that essay. Lastly do the extra credit it only helps.
I don't know what these people are talking about on here, she was nearly the best teacher I've EVER had. Blunk is hilarious and lively, and showers you in extra credit. Yes , the essays are difficult but let me remind you this is college people. TAKE HER CLASS, you'll learn a ton, and have a blast.
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE. She refuses to participate online in anything. I have had her for both ground and online both times by accident. Either way you will regret taking her. She is so clouded by how SHE wants papers exactly the way SHE wants that it doesn't matter how well you write. She also chooses the worst reading material! Hard "A"
Dawn Blunk is a lively and extremely energetic as well as humorous teacher. I personally like English and enjoy a challenge in it, however she can be a little difficult in grading for those who don't enjoy English. Highly recommended if English comes naturally. Showers students with Extra Credit!
My best advice is just read these comments people are leaving. Her grading is highly based on opinion. I wrote a fantastic error free paper and she did not like the way I interpreted the book we read. I had another teacher look it over and she even agreed that is was an A-B paper. Blunk gave me a D. O BE AN EDITOR not made to teach
I just got done taking her online english 1B class and it was a challenge. Every reading assignment looked like hell but I actually ended up appreciating the readings. Keep in mind I HATE LITERATURE, but for some reason I connected with all the stories she assigned and ended up really enjoying them. She's a good teacher and she's fair.
This instructor certainly gives you a lot of work , however, it all pays off in the end. If you truly work for your grade then you will have no problem in this class. Dawn will give you great tips and advice throughout the class. This class thought me that some things in life can be difficult but are worth the extra hours.
Great professor. Taught me a lot. I was fresh out of high school and didn't know what to expect. Professor Dawn will expect your work to be done on time. PAGE COUNT MATTERS!!!! She is always down to help. Will give a lot of extra credit. I passed with an A and so can you. Just listen and be respectful. No cell phones or dropped! Loved her class!!
Terrible. If you check her drop and withdrawl rates, practically half her classes bail. This is because she is so stuck on overwhelming you with details of sylabus. You want an English class but you are taking an OCD Details class. I was dissapointed. She dares you to drop and admits her online class is much more difficult than any on ground class.
Although she is hilarious & has a great personality, her rules are way too strict & unnecessary. In real life, people make mistakes & accidents happen, but there's no mercy for those mistakes & accidents in this class. For example, say your car broke down,& you miss the class that day, you will lose the points for the homework & in-class activities.
I really enjoyed this class. I took her summer course and it was pretty easy. I got A's on most papers. She is very approachable but be on her good side. Interesting class discussions.
I took her 8 week online course, and it was brutal. I have no problems with her as an instructor, but there was a lot of work to do, especially reading. If you don't have adequate time to complete all the work -- don't take it. Also, read everything carefully and follow the directions to a tee, and log in often. Only used the "Signs of Life" book.
The professor was tough, if you forgot to put page counting you will automatically get an "F". You do need to participate a lot, and if you do everything as it's required you will be fine. There are no excuses for being late with homework. What I liked is that professor gave detailed feedback on essays.
Basically, I am at Sierra for my GE, and I took her online class because it was my last resort. She assigns stuff, but she never gets involved unless it suits her. I tried to contact her several times and got told to make an appointment when that was what I was trying to do. This teacher doesn't know how to teach people with learn disabilities.
Will bet against you to pass the class. 6 essay's determine whether you will pass the class or not. LITERALLY docks you points if you ask her a question. If you are as much as 1 minute late, she will dock you points and not allow you to turn anything in. So many disorganized papers and information, impossible to find info she ask for 2 months ago.
She's way cool. I learned a lot from this wonderful person! I used to hate writing. No more.
She's one of the two most awful profs I had through the community college system. Dawn Blunk does not care about making you a strong writer. She cares about her way of doing things and that's it. Formatting is important but automatically failing students and only giving one opportunity to correct it is the work of someone on a power trip. AWFUL.
Most people take online classes because they work full time and have other life obligations. She has homework due literally everyday, with absolutely no homework accepted late. I understand that an 8 week course is accelerated, but this was ridiculous.
She's awesome. Super friendly and down to earth. Smart too.
On the first few essays,I got a very low grade but by the end of the course I had an A+. She also offers a lot of extra credit so that helps a lot. You have to work on a daily basis , the workload of the class was higher than any of my classes but a good grade is very possible. You need to follow all her instructions or your grade will go down.
This was an late term online class. We had to buy a textbook that we only used for 4 essays in the book-waste of money. She had multiple no point assignments and the information to complete the assignments was everywhere. No clear concise method of teaching. No modules for the week and then a paper. I would never take her again.
She assigned a huge amount of homework - I spent about 2-3 hours a day on this class alone. She left all of the essays for the last two weeks of class, so I struggled to finish them on time. In addition to the essays, there were unnecessary assignments to accompany them, which took up more time. She is a very tough grader. There is extra credit.
At times I felt overwhelmed, but if you map out the assignments with what grade youd like you dont have to do everything. I also took the 8 week class so it was a lot harder. She has a really great late work policy. You can turn in most assignments at any point during the term. And most of the assignments directly had to do with the essay topics.
VERY unclear on due dates, excessive amount of work, and personally invasive assignments she requires you to share w/class. I have never been assigned prompts that asked for so many intimate details about my childhood, it was traumatizing. Expect hours and hours of homework DAILY for this class. Absolutely ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE 8 WEEK CLASS!!
Dawn is a great instructor! I would take all my classes in writing and literature from her if I could. The readings are amazing and how the course is set up for the online work is just perfect for me. I can work and get my college studies done on my own schedule, which is just great. Thanks Professor Blunk!
Her class formatting was extremely ineffective, she crammed two essays(one of them on a novel), and a four part exam in the last two weeks of school. They were all assigned with three weeks left of class. She had high expectations for her very poor planning and management. All assignments were as challenging as possible with nit picky requirements.
If you manage your time well and do the extra credit, this class will be pretty easy.
Was worried due to older ratings but caring fun teacher. The pacing isn't the best but there's A LOT of VERY easy extra credit & she opens things up early so just plan accordingly! For 8 week class, busy weekly workload but flexible due dates, easy & allows 4 'freebie' missing hw. Engaging reading material. Listens to feedback from students! 10/10
I really loved this teacher! I would definitely recommend her to anyone just starting out with ENGL, because I not only learned a lot, but I got to flourish my creativity! There was a lot of explaining done with the lessons she taught, so a bit of reading, but they were clear and easy to follow so that I was able to do my work effectively.
Dawn is extremely caring and dedicated to helping her students learn. She helped me express my thoughts in a way that is understandable to all readers. She also corrected my grammar and punctuation. I was able to pass the state exam after taking her course. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs a fun, exciting, thorough teacher.
Engaging instructor who fosters creativity. Prep with unstuck ai and the free textbook. Workload can be heavy, so manage time well. Overall worthwhile if you're willing to put in the effort.
Grades work late and like others have stated here she is extremely disorganized. Assignments were due every single day. Waits until halfway through the semester to grade assignments, so you are just left wondering if your work is good enough to keep going. Is not concise whatsoever. Don't walk, run.
Overall the course was disappointing it was mainly the teacher I had issues with especially grading. Work load is HEAVY, the professor dumped 5 assignments plus 2 optional extra credit ones on the last day of the course 4 of them being an analysis with the last one being an essay. The 5th one being our final essay so two essays on the last day :/
Gives A LOT OF WORK. Be prepared to have a lot of assignments each week. Overall good teacher though, grab the easy EC when available.
The class is manageable, there is A LOT of work.
