I really enjoy taking her class. She teaches in the way that is interesting. She very friendly and replies to emails fast.

Dr. Dennis is amazing. She is extremely helpful and loves engaging with students. I went in thinking that I was going to hate history and I can honestly say that I want to take more history classes with her. Her lectures are not boring and she's real funny. She is hands down one of the best professors I have taken. She is clear. She is also very opinionated which is a guide to different topics -- helps you categorize based on importance. She gives you enough time to do the midterm and final papers. Those consist of short answers and one or two paragraph. She uses Moodle to our advantage.

The focus of this class in on writing. Dr. Dennis will help students improve on writing. Her lectures are informative and very interesting. All of her tests are writing- participation is essential to passing this class- she wants you to know history. Don't skip class- she will know. She is helpful too and shows empathy. SHE IS AMAZING! There is a lot go effort needed in this class but it is worth it! Just show up and things will be easy. She passes a role sheet and knows who comes to class daily. All my "tests" were take home finals papers, handwriting into a blue book. She is 100% willing to help, gives a lot of feedback, and spends time in class to work on papers. She has a very strong personality lol so don't show up late bc you will get embarrassed and always go to class because she gives participation points that do help!

If you're not willing to put in the work, then do not take this professor. She assigns writing essays, summaries, etc (7 total). She offers to edit your draft before you submit them! Dr. Dennis is a hipster, it's cool because she understands our struggles as students. This class is A LOT of writing, I written over 20 pages in essays. She is really helpful and knows her history (hence, she has a Ph.D). I'm not a history person, so this class was okay, she does favor people who know their history well.

This made the class easier b/c there are lots of dates in history so you dont need to memorize it all. Gave students lots of time & told due dates in advance. Very helpful and supportive.

Professor Dennis is a great professor. The class is a bit tough though. Take home midterm essay, 2 writing assignments and a take home final essay. By far my favorite class I took this quarter, everything is straight forward in this class. You definitely have to work for it if you want an A, but she makes it clear what she expects out of her students. Midterm and final are take home and there's two writing assignment. It's a lot of work but if you like writing then this class is for you.

Great class. There are a few things I didn't like but they don't really affect you academically more so in terms of how you think about everything. The one that bothered me the most is that not everything has to do with slavery or black people. The other one being that she seems to despise capitalism even if it has lifted millions out of poverty.

I loved this class from day one Dr. Dennis was on fire about anti-Blackness and white supremacy. I feel cheated by my LAUSD Education. She is hard and a tough grader; but I did okay in the class. She's amazing and helpful. She assigns a reading of 20-30 pages a week from two books. If you know some history, youre okay. Two assignments, reflection essay, midterm, final. All take home. Only need to attend when you speak or need to turn something in. Midterm and Final were most time consuming.

Two papers, one group project (meme), and the final exam is an essay. Lectures at first feel faced paced, but you get used to it. Very helpful with papers, and Dr. D offers to revise papers! Homework was usually reading assigned chapters of the textbooks (Inhuman Bondage and Give Me Liberty). Dr. D was awesome and provided the PDF versions!

I liked this class- History 2050. Dr. Dennis is a fair grader, and is very helpful to students with writing our papers and exams. Some students were kind of rude to her tho- and really didnt take this course seriously. She showed videos and played music- and helped us with our readings!

DR. Dennis is such a great professor and really helps you see the side of history that high schools and such never taught you. She provides all the textbooks through PDF . There are a couple of papers but some of them are group papers so its not too bad. Just be sure to be in class because it does bring up/down your grade a lot.

I worked on the Dymally Archives; I strongly suggest you take her Spring 2020 as she will be doing the same thing. We had three papers Midterm, Reflection, and Final. Although working in the archives made class easier, you still need to do some work. I will say I didnt even care about the work because I loved her class so much. Very knowledgeable.

I loved this course. She talked about the left, right, Republicans & Democrats; her phrase is they are all cut from the same cloth. I didnt know about the Irish! Our textbooks were amazing. When we moved online, it wasnt that bad as I thought it would be. She is so nice to the class. She set up weekly dialogue & sent us emails.

Dr. Dennis is great! She won a grant for an exhibit we are working on this semester. This class is amazing, and the guest lecturers were very informative. Dr. Dennis has Zoom meetings once a week, and then office hours for the other day. The coursework is not that hard; she stopped giving quizzes bc she said it was too much busy work. Take her!!!!

Dr. Dennis is such a cool professor; her Zoom sessions about the weekly history topic are informative & she pays attention to the chat, feature to answer questions. Dr. Dennis is awesome, I love her way of teaching. The class mainly consists of written discussions, no tests or quizzes. We had one big assignment, which was based on the autry museum. But she divided this project into five parts, which made it a whole lot easier. I recommend you to take her, you won't regret it.

This class consisted of weekly discussion posts for the most part but the online museum exhibit was the main star of the course as we focused more on that instead. The prof did dock me on a few points in my exp overall but it's nothing too drastic. The prof also seems to be pretty in touch with today's generation so that's a plus.

This was a good class! We worked on a grant for an exhibit in Spring. We had to do weekly discussions & an analysis of primary sources. The Autry museum visited our class & so did the college library. She is a caring professor!!!

I liked History 3450 and Dr. Dennis organized the class on Canvas with weekly modules and reading assignments. Our final exam was a primary source analysis from the Mervyn Dymally exhibit. Dont expect an A in this class if you dont complete readings & activities. Half the class never showed up which was rude! I am taking her again!

I loved this course-even though it was on Zoom. She made every effort to help us with posts & writing. She is excited to teach history & you can tell after just one class. I really like her and hope to see her in the fall in another class!!! ��

HONEST REVIEW: Dr. Dennis is an awesome instructor, she is also relates a lot to the younger generations. There is a lot of discussion boards, and she expects students to write a 10-12 sentences paragraph for each question. There is a total of 4 Activity, two of which are in groups. This is for the Autry Museum proposal.

I enjoyed this class! Professor Dawn is so nice and helped us with our assignments. We worked in groups, and listened to different music when she would talk about the Great Depression and the 1940s. Take her!!!!!

I really liked her class on urban history. We completed weekly posts and one big project. She let all of us revise our final project for a higher grade. I learned allot about Mervyn Dymally & we had a class visitor from the museum. She is just a nice professor.

If you are looking to take an easy but interesting class, I recommend this one. I took it as a non-history major and it was really fun to analyze the material. You technically do need the book but she gives out a free pdf copy of it. You will need to do class discussions and examine art online. Attendance is not mandatory. No final or midterm.

I took Dr. Dennis for two classes this semester: History 3050 and History 3400. She is the most caring professor ever; not easy but will shift deadlines for you in case of a family emergency-which is what happened to me. Her modules are set up for asynchronous learning. Attend class though/ this is when we worked on assignments and revisions.

Professor Dennis is caring, always helpful, and flexible with late assignments. She does ramble a little but teaches her class if she is having a conversation, which is more engaging. There is quite a lot of reading, and her homework is usually always discussion questions. No midterm or final, a history pin project, and a small primary source.

This History 3450 was great! No lecture, more like a discussion and she did provide PowerPoints. I loved the HistoryPin project that we did. Overall, i really enjoyed this class & the content in the modules (shade, sun, water, street murals, and a Nazi presence in Los Angeles) was interesting to me!

I took Dr. Dennis for History 417: CA History for Educators, at CSUN this semester. I loved everything about this course. We created lesson plans about Mervyn Dymally with the Autry Museum. I plan to teach K-12 & this entire course was about how to teach history. She worked so hard for us students & made learning so impactful for all of us.

Dr. Dennis is amazing. In my opinion, very easy A. Didn't have to read the textbooks. Just make sure you put evidence for the dialogue posts because she will take some points off. Other than that, the class consists of some in-class assignments and the history pin project. She's very nice and helpful. Highly recommend anyone to take her.

Professor Dennis's class is easy. She provides the textbooks, but you can get by without reading if you skim her ppts. She lectures and you get class time to do your assignments. Nearly weekly group discussion board and a HistoryPin project. She is not too harsh with grading and you can redo assignments for more credit. Offers EC opportunities.

I really enjoyed this course on cities. Dr. Dennis is an amazing caring teacher; she even held it down when her husband was hospitalized for a couple of months this semester. She loves teaching-even on Zoom-and her energy is unique!!! She supports her students and students support her! Take one of her courses!!!!

This was a summer course, so I understand our work load was different but if you don't want to write multiple 2-3 page essays in a week, don't take this class. Professor overall was very sweet and gave helpful feedback, gave opportunities to resubmit work to make up lost points, and lets us turn in late work.

The online 5-week LBS 2340 was challenging & great class for me! Dr. Dennis gave us a choice on what to write about for the weekly modules-either reading or media report. She lessened assignments for us, made weekly videos, and posted announcements where we can ask questions. She also responded to email so fast! I really enjoyed this class!

I enjoyed this course. Dr. Dennis gave us many opportunities to succeed, and I really appreciate that! We also researched our own community for this final online project. I also rewrote some of my assignments & she left comments on our writing. The readings helped me understand Los Angeles.

The class was pretty easy but there are a lot of readings. Like a paper a week- the problem was the readings that were soo long. She loves quotes so you actually have to read (or search up keywords). You can resubmit and turn in late work so that was nice. A lecture for one day and the other for students to present the readings- not hard tho

The thing about Dr. Dennis is that she will call attention to anti-Semitic ideas, anti-Islam, racism, anti-Catholic ideas, genocides, gender violence/gender bias and classism/anti-labor in history. I learned so much about Boyle Heights in the 1930s and cities in Mississippi.
