I took this teachers Logic and Critical Thinking and I thought that it was a terrable class I would not recommend it or the teacher.

Didnt learn anything, teacher is boring, and at times I cant believe she graduated college. The upside its an easy "A" class.
very willing to help. Sincerely wants everyone to do well
The class was boring, and she was not a very good teacher. She didn't seem to know what she was doing, or to be very intelligent. Plus she had the nerve not to come to class a few times without notifying us ahead of time. I'd expect more out of a teacher i paid to come to school and teach me.
Had a tendancy to ramble, but did her best to make sure everyone did well in the class. If somebody didn't do well, it's was their own fault for not putting forth the effort.
Good teacher. Uses class interaction to help students to better understand what philosophers would view situations in today's society, makes it easier to remember. Would recommend
Professor Gale teaches a Logic class that is one that is much more user friendly. I learned a lot from it. If you want to learn logic, and its basics, it is a good class to take
Young teacher. Tests are hard if you don't pay attention. Ask many questions and make sure you study the concepts. Alot of names and memorization. Best bet is to read what's assigned and take part in the discussions if it is a big class. Always notified by email of absences beforehand. Emailed study guides. Really cool extra credit assignment
Dawn is a great professor, you can tell she really loves her job. She is very intelligent and has a great personality. She is objective, and very interesting. It shows that she is cultured and very stylish! Loved Her!! Dont listen to the neg. comments made by others, she is really a great professor, and you would be lucky to have a class with her.
Dawn is a great teacher. She will put forth the extra effort to make sure you understand. She wants you to do well in her class. If you don't understand it she will put it so you do. Loves to have class discussions and hear your opinion. Young teacher that you can relate to. Easy and interesting class.
i took two classes from Dawn and plan on taking another one. She goes through all the material several times to make sure you understand. She made the classes vey fun and interesting by adding in a personal, comical touch. She is the best professor I ever had.
dawn is an amazing teacher that actually knows what she's talking about. i definately would reccomend her to other students.
Her class is very enjoyable..she makes it easy to learn and reviews the material so that you remember the important points. She really likes essays on tests..but if you study all the material you shouldnt have too much of a problem. Dawn is one of the best professors I have had in a while.
She's really nice and always willing to help. However, she cancelled class a lot without notice for a 9 AM class, she did it several times. Very intriguing teacher and she really makes you think. She puts the notes on the board, if you copy them and memorize them, you should have no problem getting an A.
I enjoyed this course. If you go to class, write down the notes she puts on the board, & pay attention you will do well on tests. There are 4 tests & one paper. She drops the lowest test grade. She gives a study guide a week before the test. Answer all the questions thoroughly & study them & you should make an A on the tests. I would take her again
Ethics itself is pretty boring and confusing to me, however she is an incredibly fair teacher, she tells you exactly what you need to study and reviews what was lectured over briefly the last time met every class period, and she lets you drop your lowest test grade, or if did well on exams you can opt out of the final!
Boring subject but she gives good notes. You do need to read the book as well. I liked Dawn, but I did not like that she didn't show up for class a few times and didn't seem prepared with materials.
I can't really tell exactly my feelings on her, because she was gone more than half the semester to have a baby. When she was there, she gave great notes and you felt comfortable going into the test. Her "sub" for when she was gone.. not so much. Regardless, I still got a "B." FYI.. if you take Ethics you have to do Service Learning! (like comm srv
I like philosophy but this teacher makes if very boring. She is not very helpful and is somewhat snobby to people who don't understand some of the material. She acts as a control freak and has some issues.
I took her for intro and modern philosophy and sometimes the material can be difficult but as long as you read the material, ask questions, and ALWAYS take notes you will be fine. She always gives great study guides for the tests so there is no reason to not be prepared.
she was the best teacher.you can go during her office hours & she will help you understand philosophy.her patience is good.i got a low C on her first test and she sat down with me and helped me understand the material.she was extremely helpful.i could take her class anytime.do not miss class.her notes are very good & her personal examples.got an A
Dawn is an amazing teacher! She was very interesting and helpful. Attend Class and take her notes and you are sure to get an A! I'm taking her again for ethics, so I highly recommend her! :)
please listen to me. this class-she makes it SO unreasonably hard. i am a straight A student, and this class has completely owned me.and, the service learning project- you MUST do, and its 18 hours outside school. this lass. Sucks so much. seriously, save your self. she is not compassionate. do NOT take ethics with Dawn, or else you will regret it!
She is a great teacher! You have to go to every class and just take notes and you have an A! She explains things really thoroughly, and I never had to read the book. I just listened in class and studied a bit and I aced the class. She's real cool.
Amazing teacher! She is very fun to listen to. Make sure you take notes that she writes on the board and listen to what she says. You will easily get a A. She has really made me interested in philosophy i will be taking modern phil from her next semester.
Dawn is way cool. I haven't gotten my grade for the class yet, but I feel that I did very well overall. She recognizes a lot peoples needs and explained the reading very clearly. She is not afraid to add in opinions here and there either, which I like. I'd recommend her over any other Philosophy teacher at JCCC
I have mixed feelings. she is very passionate about teaching and seems to know it pretty well. but she is offended easily(and doesn't appreciated contrary opinions) and during the entire semester she only dismissed class on time 3-4 times. you will learn a lot but she expects you to remember it ALL.
Requires a significant amount of reading, but if you read what is assigned and go to class you should be fine. She is very helpful, so don't hesitate to ask for help. The test questions require detailed responses but aren't tricky or obscure. I loved this class. I would take another class with Dawn if I were still at JCCC.
She is awesome!
If you attend class, and do the readings it's not hard to do well on tests. There are essay questions, but she outlines them before the exam so you can prepare. Best of all the final isn't mandatory, if you are satisfied with your grade she drops the lowest test score so you don't even have to take the final.
Philosophy is not my thing. I'm a straight-A student, and even though I attended every class, read every assigned reading, and took detailed notes, I still failed the first two tests. Dawn is nice, but she expects you to memorize an insane amount of information. If you're good at that, then you'll do well. Otherwise, stay away.
Philosophy is not easy for me. However, I showed up to class, wrote the notes carefully and paid attention in class. I dropped the course to save my GPA. She is a hard grader and expects you to know every detail in order to earn an A. The only grades you receive are on tests and 1 paper assignment. (no homework)Do not take a class from her.
I don't know how ANYONE passes this class. Dawn expects you to be able to memorize a novel's worth of details for each test. I never missed class, I read all of the assigned reading, wrote down everything she said in class, and I STILL failed all of her tests. I was on the Dean's List last semester. Her class is the only one I've ever failed!
Those who are saying she is tough are correct. But if you don't understand something just ask her. While doing the reading and taking notes is very important ALWAYS do the study guides before each test, they may be long but they cover all info you might need on the test. Overall, she is a tough teacher but thats a good thing, You understand better.
It you understand Philosophy then you will do well. She expects you to know alot. To me it was a very hard class.
Dawn is a really nice teacher, she is willing to help if you do the work. The reading can be pretty hard to understand but she explain them in class and only expects you to know what she explains. The tests are fairly easy, you def. need to study.. but there isn't much homework other than the readings. If you are a good student you'll get an a.
She is so smart and one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her tests are not easy but she is always more than willing to help you.
Prepaire to loose your life. Even if you study, be prepaired to fail. And you might want to record and memorize what she says, cause if you follow her directions on tests, you're boned. Write it how she says it.
She is so caring and compassionate towards all of her students, even the ones that can't come to class from time to time, she is the best!
This class can be tricky, but Gale doesn't mind helping anyone out who is having trouble in class. If you have a question about anything, just ASK and she'll help you out. Also if you have problems with the test, she can help you out there too.
HEADS UP - Dawn requires a service learning project for her course (18 hours of community service). Along with the hours, you must journal and write a term paper. It is a tough course but if you put effort into the course she is always willing to help you out! AMAZING INSTRUCTOR! If you don't have time to do community service don't enroll!
Spent a total of $10 on texts since most of what we used was on the public domain. Will always help someone who shows up regularly and participates. Skippers need not apply, as if you skip a test you will NOT be making it up under any circumstance. (If you know you'll be gone, take it early, and if you're sick, get a note.)
Not Good. Home work is never clearly communicated and is spaced out between online and written. Confusing to keep track of. And she has a usless sense of teaching skills.
Great professor. Class was always interesting and her teaching method was very effective. Unlike some lecture courses, her class was always a comfortable place to ask questions and have discussions. Willing to go the extra mile to help and make sure students understood the lessons. She was also very good at getting tests/papers graded quickly.
Dear lord can this professor talk! On and on and on, you feel like she doesn't ever take breaks. That can make it difficult to follow, however she definitely knows her material and is very helpful if you have questions. Very approachable too. Overall she's a good professor but be prepared to put in a lot of work for her class.
The subject matter is very confusing. You don't actually discuss anything about philosophy. The course description is VERY misleading. You diagram sentences which, unless you REALLY are interested in the diagram, barely make any rational sense. She has a hard time actually getting the subject matter to make sense. Wouldn't recommend it...
Do the study guides attend class and you will be fine. She is very helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the topics and can relate them to just about anything. There was no text book used. One paper project that requires volunteer hours but it is fun and easy if you dont procrastinate
If you have to take an Ethics class, take it from someone else. She spends half of each class reviewing the material she covered in the previous class period. The class average for my semester was a 64%. While not solely dependent on the instructor, the overall class average is still disappointing enough to question her legitimacy as an instructor.
Dawn Gale is a wonderful teacher. Her Intro to Philosophy class was difficult, but she was very clear with the subjects we focused on. Her tests come word for word from what she talks about in class (not necessarily what she writes on the board). I dont think I ever opened the book once other than for my paper. Shes great if you pay attention.
I don't know what professor these other people have taken, but Dawn is AWESOME! Willing 2go over material repeatedly with ppl who don't get it. I had no interest in this field prior 2this required class. Now I'm trying 2squeeze in 17 hrs next fall b/c I want 2have her as my Ethics prof (she only teaches ethics in fall). Take her class! Any of them!
Very easy teacher. Homework is split between bookwork and online. If you attend class at least once a week, or at least read the book, you can get an A. She is always willing to help students if they need it. Classes can be very repetitive, however that might have just been mine. Highly recommended.
The people that rated her here either didn't want to do the work for a college level class or were unaware of the required 18 hours of service learning because Dawn is EXCELLENT! She is willing to go the extra mile for her students. Take meticulous notes or RECORD her lectures. Study guides and attendance are crucial. No required textbook! :)
At the end of this semester, I will have a "W" on my transcript and will have wasted over $300. Simply because a teacher was not empathetic to a students life situations (that were beyond my control &I even had a court subpoena ad testificandum),not flexible with the assnmnts, nor adaptive in her teaching style. uNeed to be a visual learner 4 class.
I think that this professor is extremely hard on how she grades! When she asks for an overall view of someone's theory she really means for you to write a complete view of that philosopher! Her exams are really hard so if you have her then you better know front to back about the philosophers she asks about or your grade will be very low!!!
She was nice and very helpful but taking this class was very difficult. It seemed boring but got interesting toward the end. No textbook only handouts and lectures. Record the lectures if possible to refer back to, lots of information... 18 hours of community service hours to be done as well. POINTS BASED CLASS, DON'T MISS OUT ON ANY POINTS!!!!!
You have to study for this class, there are no homework points, just test grades. she gives you all the info you need but attendance is necessary! she goes over the previous lesson before class which is nice but tends to go start talking about her family a lot and goes in circles around peoples questions. Good class if you like philosophy.
Extremely helpful if help is sought. She is very understanding of schedules as well and will work with you. She does not want to see you fail but expects you to be an adult and do what is asked. Class is easy if you participate in discussions and study a little.
She is a really nice teacher! The class had 15 graded assignments, she dropped the lowest five. Three unit exams plus final. The lowest exam grade is dropped (including final). I ended up not having to take the final because of that which was nice. The class brought philosophy as an idea for a major.
Outstanding professor. She is very well knowledgable in philosophy and knows how to teach the material for it to make sense for you. If you don't understand something She will go out of her way to make time for you until you know it fully. The class is not easy, just show up, do the work as told, ask for help if needed, and you will get your A.!
Professor Gale is simply an Amazing women. She has a great way of relating the material to real life scenarios using her family as a starting point. She the most real lady at jccc that I know of. Real as in she sticks to her word. She will help you in any possible way until your good on your own. I miss taking her class, I may take again for fun:)
She seems very nice and passionate about what she teaches, but she speaks in such a monotone voice. I was interested in philosophy, but I wanted to fall asleep in her class. The grade will only be based on the tests and an assigned paper. No homework or attendance points are given.
5 tests including final, will drop one so if you already have an A no final. One essay, which was actually a fun assignment. Attendance necessary if you don't want to buy the book, but I'd still buy it and skim the reading assignments. Take notes, the test are 20 multiple choice and 4 short essays regurgitating everything you know
Very nice person. Very helpful if you needed help. She did this thing though where you are basically forced to volunteer for 18 hrs total. You MUST do this to get a good grade. Very frustrating since I have two jobs 6 days a week and school. There is no book assigned however you have to read a lot of online literature that can be long and boring.
Dawn is an AWESOME teacher. She explains the material really well, gives plenty of time for assignments and is very lenient (to a certain extent). A lot of reading assignments, some of which are very lengthy, but they are spaced out and she explains the info in detail so you'll be fine. You would have to really slack to fail her class.
Let me begin by saying that you could definitely tell she loves what she teaches. That being said, this class was not that easy. Tests are made up of mainly essay questions, lectures are very monotone, and you are essentially required to do volunteer work for 18 hrs (which is hard with work, school, and a 1 yr. old). Grades tough. Hardest A yet.
I love professor Gale! I went into this class with no interest in philosophy but over the course of the class she changed that. She is always there to help if you need it. She gets the whole class involved in her lectures which made it interesting and fun.
18 hours of community service is required, along with that you have to write journals every time you volunteer and a term paper towards the end of the semester. She's knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches but her lectures aren't particularly interesting and you'll rarely get out of class on time. She's also a pretty strict grader.
I had Professor Dawn for Ethics. Initially had no interest whatsoever but she is very passionate and caused me to really enjoy the class. It is necessary to go to class. Take notes! Study hard and get the grade! By far my favorite teacher. Very caring, helpful, and timely. But watch out- she likes to kick tables. :-P
It was a tough class for me, but she's an awesome professor!! I would take her class again. Don't miss a class unless you have people to take notes for you. Lots of note taking. Gives study guides for exams. You do have a service learning project you do and a paper that's worth 40% of your grade due at the end of the semester.
Teaches Ethics like you are in grad school.. if you take her class good luck getting an A. If you have already taken a lot of philosophy classes then you'll be fine, otherwise ....
Amazing teacher! Lectures are easy to follow and easy to take notes. Allows for participation of all views.
Don't pick her! she isn't clear on anything. doesn't explain things clearly at all! also since theres no book, you don't have anything to fall back on. unless you already know the material, you won't do well. people were begging for a C. the only good thing is she allows for extra time on community service things and theres no book.
Dawn is awesome. Her lectures were interesting and she provided detailed and outlined notes on the board for each. There is a fair bit of reading required but she reviews everything in class. Class requires a Service Learning project. the class was more work than I anticipated, but it was worth it. I learned a lot. Totally enjoyed this professor.
This was a Honors Forum, Ethics of War & Peace. Lectures were hard to stay awake during as she seemed to have a monotone. Very poor turn around time for homework. Ethics papers may be hard to grade but if your opinion doesn't match hers BEWARE! I would like to take Honors Philosophy but will not unless another professor teaches the course.
The topic itself is very difficult to understand. She does assign homework, but drops the lowest ten scores. Homework points brought my grade up (saved it). Tests are difficult. She gives partial points on questions that aren't multiple choice or t/f if you at least try. Drops the lowest test score. Offers extra credit. Always willing to help.
Dawn is an incredible teacher, and if you make you're notes look like hers on the board, you'll have perfect notes. Inspires great class discussion and is excellent at describing difficult topics. She also cares a lot and wants her students to succeed. I highly recommend her. 10/10
If you show up to class and pay attention to her lecture you will easily get an A or B depending on how well you can write essays on tests.
To be honest, this class is the hardest class I've taken so far in the college. However, it's also the one that I enjoyed the most. The materials were hard, but the lecture and class notes helped a lot that made the contents become more interesting and understandable. The discussion was very helpful too! Take the class with Dawn!!!
I took Environmental Ethics with her and it may be my favorite class I've taken in college. She's knowledgable about the subject and lets the class discuss the topics freely. She was flexible with deadlines and assignments, though that may have been because of the very small class size in my section (only 5 students).
Professor Dawn's lectures were often long, repetitive, and a bit boring. She would recap previous discussions at the beginning of most classes which was nice when you missed, but boring when you already knew the material. However, she's very nice and willing to help you if you ask for it.
I took intro to philosophy with Professor Dawn Gale. She is a great teacher, who you can tell loves her job. I found the class difficult but I learned a lot. You must come to class, take notes, prepare to read and study hard for her tests.
This class is hard for some, but easy for others. It just depends. Gale is amazing, and her lectures are not crazy boring. The class is interesting and she is good at teaching it. Watch out for her tests, they are crazy hard.
To be honest, I'm not all that interested in philosophy. However, Dawn Gale is an awesome teacher. If you ever have any questions, you can just email her, set up a meeting, and she'll be sure to answer all of them. She goes very in depth in class and makes the information easy to understand. She also makes philosophy a little less boring.
Great teacher! She did a great job of breaking down the basics in her intro class. She's relatable and funny. I would recommend to anyone.
Professor Gale gives you all of the material you need to do well on the exams. Everything is clearly explained in her lectures and she writes all of the info on the board, all you need to do is take good notes! I went into each exam feeling like I hadn't studied enough, only to discover that it was exactly what we had covered in class.
I took Dawn for the intro to philosophy class last semester. Going into the class I was totally nervous because phil seem like such a difficult subject ( I had no prior experience) but she made it so easy and intriguing!! I sat in the front row (which helped my attention span) but she makes lectures and the notes so easy to follow & understand. :)
This teacher is great! I had her for intro to phil. She gives you those motherly vibes of her caring about you and wanting you to pass her class. I highly recommend this class. The book is needed especially for the paper you do. ALWAYS BE THERE FOR CLASS. If you miss a class make a friend so they can give you the notes. GREAT NOTES 4 THIS CLASS!!
Dawn Gail is one the best Professors I have ever had. She writes out all of her lecture notes and all you need to do is write them down and study them for exams. She is fair and student oriented. Dawn Gail inspired me to study Philosophy at University of Kansas. She is absolutely amazing.
Great teacher. Applied both lecture-based learning and hands on learning in a pressure free environment. Home work was assigned almost every class period and kinda felt like busy work, but that practice pays off during the tests.
I really enjoyed her as a teacher! The class wasn't quite what I expected, but I enjoyed it more than I thought. She's really friendly and willing to help. The final is supposed to be brutal, but depending on your previous grades you can skip it as she drops the lowest exam & 2 lowest quizzes. There is a lot of homework though. I'd recommend her!!
I really like Dawn. She a a great teacher and really knows what shes taking about. Do your homework its easy points and prepares you for the exams.
She helped explain concepts & procedures to me after I got a C on the first exam. This set me up for success for the rest of the semester. No book required, prepare to take lots of notes during 1 hr+ lectures. Attend class because the concepts will not be ingrained unless you practice them. Very generously allows you to drop lowest test score.
Be ready to take notes. She writes everything down on the board so its easy to follow. She always gives you a study guide but it always has more information on it than there is on the test. Only things in the grade book is the 4 tests, the final exam, and the paper.
Dawn Gale is a no-nonsense, knowledgeable, but very kind professor. Her class notes are the best resource to use when studying for tests, so if you miss class, make sure someone will take notes for you. She's very understanding and clearly cares about her students, and I feel like I learned a lot in her class! Would take her again.
If you want to do well in this class you should try to attend every day because the lectures are very similar to the tests. Also FILL OUT THE STUDY GUIDES!!!! They're very helpful for the tests. We used the textbook sometimes and attendance wasn't graded. I'd take her class again.
I really enjoyed Environmental Ethic with Dawn Gale. She is an awesome teacher with clear expectations. Do your work there is not a whole lot of assignments. She knows what she is talking about, I'd take her again.
Dawn is just kinda average. She's not a good teacher but certainly not bad. Tests are most of your grade and she expects you to pick up on things very quickly for the exams. You can drop one exam including the final if you have an A. Also there was extra credit which is always a positive. Grades partial credit on the exam but is pretty stingy
Attend class everyday, topics can get a little confusing and were difficult to try to teach yourself. She is available outside of class and pushes you to come see her if you need clarification. Drops the lowest test, I didn't have to take the final comprehensive exam. Nice teacher who wants you to do well in her class.
I took her online class. She responds to discussion posts, emails, and is open to helping students. The way she organized her class on canvas was a DREAM and helped me never to lose or miss an assignment. Most grades were on quizzes and tests but they were all straight forward and had no trick questions. I <3 Dawn :)
Great teacher. Her lectures really help you understand the theories. Keep up with the assignments, discussions, and readings and you should have no problems.
BORING and LOTS of tests. avoid if you can.
Anything philosophy based can be extremely difficult for me as I don't do well with abstract topics. There was a lot of information in this course, but Professor Gale made it much easier to grasp! There will be lots to read and the tests are all essay, but as long as you watch the lecture videos and take good notes, you will do well.
Hard grader! Our class average on most assignments was very low. 3-4 assignments due every week and they can take a long time to complete. If you fall behind and miss anything, you're basically screwed for all of the material. I thought it would be a fun class but its SO BORING and not fun at all! Do not take this unless you want to be bored!!!!!!!
Dawn was an amazing professor. This was my first class in any form of ethics and she made it so interesting. Watch the lectures and participate in the discussions and you'll be fine. Exams were once a month with 2 quizzes and a discussion between that all helped on the exams!
Terrible Professor. Run!
made philosophy an easy subject to learn
Professor Gale was pretty decent. There was a quiz ever week over lecture notes (open notes) and you had the chance to correct quizzes. The tests were all essay and you could use your notes. Really understanding and willing to help. Discussions were over chapter materials. Some extra credit offered at the end of the semester.
Professor Gale is very philosophically knowledgeable and expects that you will utilize the course materials provided, along with the textbook. There is some challenging reading assigned in this course, but she encourages you to reach out to her with any questions that you might have in regard to them. She is very approachable and very caring!
I really enjoyed professor gales class, my best advice is just to take lots of notes because all the exams are open-note essay questions. I honestly never read the book (besides for the paper) and I still aced the class just from taking notes of everything she said. She really appreciates participating and I found her class fun and interactive.
She is very experienced professor! Very knowledgeable and makes learning easy and fun.
This professor can be difficult. Her discussions and quizzes are very simple but exams are where things get tricky. She always said that I wasn't explaining enough about them but then was never specific on what needed to be furthered. She's a good professor when it comes to teaching but exams can make things frustrating.
This is by far the worst professor I have had at JCCC. I agree with previous reviews where they state they need more clarification on test answers. Frequently accused me of cheating which is quite literally impossible with the way she grades. Class is horrible/boring.
She is an excellent teacher and presents the material incredibly well. It was a tough class with a lot of reading but if you show up to class and take notes like you should, you will excel and have no problem.
Honestly probably the worst professor I have ever had. Boring class, and she is hard to listen to. I would fall asleep watching her videos.
I took this class over the summer and it's a pretty difficult class. I find Professor Gale to be a HARD grader and the materials she has us use are unhelpful for the exams. If you can take this class with a different professor I would, but if this is your only option or works best for you, it's not bad enough to not take it.
Loved this intro to Philosophy course!! Dawn is very kind and understanding, but absolutely does NOT put up with students who don't care/are lazy. I absolutely loved how passionate she is about philosophy and it is very contagious! This was the hardest gen-ed I've taken so far. Dawn has high expectations, so chin up, work hard, and you'll do great!
A month in and the exams and essay we are being asked to write require in-depth knowledge of the readings and lectures that we went over only in the two weeks prior to them the exams and paper are 15% of the grade a piece 4 exams and a paper if you bomb more than one plan on dropping the course (Paper is 2-3 pages single spaced)
Professor Gale was lovely, had her for intro to ethics. Attendance is crucial, you get all your notes from in class. These notes were crucial for the tests. The only assignments we really had were unit tests and our service learning project which were absolutely do-able. She is very caring and accessible. Overall, an easy and worthwhile class.
Is a very tough tough tough grader. Also does not provide productive or helpful feedback.
Very tough grader and does not provide productive or helpful feedback. If you can take Ethics with a different professor, do.
I loved Business Ethics with Dawn this summer!! She will do whatever she can to help her students succeed. Her tests are all open note and open book, and she gives you multiple days to do the tests and most of the assignments which I also really appreciated. TAKE HER FOR YOUR PHIL CLASSES!!!!
I LOVED Professor Riley. She is by far the best professor I have had. Very understanding and caring, she gives one-on-one time if requested, and she is just all around a great professor. I would take her class again. Her assignments line up with her lectures, and she explains everything very thoroughly.
She was an amazing professor for Introduction to Philosophy. I was hesitant about the class since I often find philosophy pretentious but she made it fun, engaging, and easily accessible for everyone in the class. I will say there is a lot to read and her class is very lecture-heavy so don't miss many classes if you want to succeed.
Professor Gale is passionate about philosophy and makes the material engaging. While the exams can be tricky, attending class and using resources like the textbook and unstuck study are key to doing well. It's a challenging but worthwhile class - just be ready to put in the work.
i was looking forward to this class but was disappointed and bored most of the time. ineed it to graduate or would have dropped and taken something else from someone else.
Professor Gale was an amazing professor. She really encourages that you ask questions and participate in the group discussions. The material can be hard, but you have lots of time to study, because she only assigns tests and quizzes. Be prepared to write a lot on the tests. Pay attention in class, and you'll do fine on the tests.
Your grade is made up of quizzes (super easy) and 4 exams. Exams are comprised of 4 essay questions and are time consuming (2-4 hrs). After the first exam is graded you get a better idea of what criteria she is looking for, which is extreme thoroughness. You can not give half-effort on these exams, but if you put in the work you get a good grade.
Dawn Gale's ethics class was amazing and I could not recommend it higher. However, be ready to read and write a decent amount. Along with that her class is lecture heavy since that is how she delivers all of her key content and notes. Her class is challenging but not over the top and requires a decent but fair amount of effort to be put in.
I loved taking Dawn's Food Ethics class. I got a lot out of it, and it helped open up pathways to my future career between the culinary and sustainable agriculture worlds. Dawn is truly inspirational and kind. If you need help with anything, she is there to listen and has a great deal of empathy if you are in a situation, but don't abuse that!
The requirements of this teacher are a lot. Make sure you respond to everything or you will receive points off. I'm not sure how she has a lot of 5 stars but don't fall for it. My class had 27 students and is now down to 15. This class isn't impossible just make sure you have tons of time because she is a harsh grader.
If you want to get accused of using AI by a teacher who doesn't know the course book, here is your "professor"! Based on the participation in the last discussion posts, I estimate that 3/4 of the class dropped due to her harsh grading and lack of ethics. If I weren't using the GI Bill, I would have dropped out as well. Doesn't respond to emails.
.one of the best teachers I have ever had, I enjoyed the food ethics class so much
Forcing your students to rack up volunteer hours without any other options to substitute this grade is horrible. These tests are not fun and are graded very harshly. Might be my 13th reason.
This professor is very picky on grading and does an absolutely absurd amount of lecturing. I do not recommend this professor if you are not very familiar with what the class covers.
I missed one quiz (not an exam or paper, mind you) back in September, and my grade for her class went down a lot. Exams are difficult if you're using the textbook definitions for your exams instead of interpreting. I literally have a tutor for help on top of lecture notes and the book, and still doing horribly in the class.
Grade mostly came down to a handful of exams and was a very picky grader. Made it very hard to do well in her class and also will accuse you of using AI when it wasn't used.
I took Professor Gale this past spring for Food Ethics. She's very understanding and will work with you if you need anything. I won't lie, this class takes work (embedded service learning project), but you'll learn a lot. Her lectures make it clear that she's knowledgeable in the subject. If you're looking for a bit of a challenge, take this class!
Excellent, if you care about getting a valuable education you should be in her class.
