Dr. Hinton is an interesting person. I had a conversation with her in her office on all sorts of topics, including everything from Slayer to social work. She's also a great teacher, she makes class fun and presents a genuine interest in teaching.

This course was the best course I have ever taken at SVSU. Very eye-opening and informative. I think that it should be required. There is a lot of reading however, it is a 300 level course. It can be very easy if you do the reading.

She is funny, and seems to like people. She is thinks and teaches from a total liberal, perspective. Her economic beliefs are almost communist. She allows questions and answers during class, but does not like a conservative christian perspective.

Great person. Love her to death!! Hate her teaching style however. She is very unclear on everything. Just do the work the way you want and you will get an A. You have to be very dumb to fail her class. If you can get past the bull****, it is easy.

she is a really good teacher. i would take one of her classes again if i get the chance. her lectures are fun. read the syllibus and do the homework and you will definatly pass.

GREAT PROF!! She is funny and makes things interesting. Her lectures are power point and tests are taken from them PLUS the vocab in the book. Put a little effort in and you'll do fine!

Dr. Hinton makes class fun you actually want to go all the time..she is also right to the point she doesn't talk more than waht is needed so you get out of class early alot.

Very easy especially with previous tests. Tests have lots to do with conflict and order-- know that stuff!!! 3 tests and a final, final is optional. The lowest test out of 4 (if you take the final) is dropped.

Make sure that you do all of the readings and you will do fine.

Dr. Hinton is GREAT!!! She is a really straight foward prof. and she doesn't hold back. Some one said that they think she seems to "favor" black females...Thats not true. Dr. Hinton just tells things like they are. Everything she says has facts

Very good teacher. She explains things very well but you need to study. She makes class a lot of fun with her humor. Not a very hard class just make sure you go and study a little. I hope I can take her again!

Dr. Hinton is one of the most caring and funny individuals that I have ever known. She voices her opinions without shame--noting that she can only speak from her own unique perspective--as an African American woman. Her vision of diversity speaks volumes. It has been a privilege to know her.

she hands you the questions for the test! it doesn't get easier than that. study the 8 questions she gives you 3 of them will be on the test no suprises. Wwrite out the essays to study, she will even read it to see if you have the right answers. anyone who fails this class is an idiot.

She is a great professor. She isnt to hard either! Definately take her if you have the choice. Dosent give out to much homework so thats nice too ...

The professor is really nice, the notes are pre-prepared for you so all yoiu have to do is print them and fill-in the blanks... she grades her papers very easily and makes the class easily understood, the notes are very reflective for the test

Dr Hinton is awesome! She is SOOO funny and makes class a blast. Outside work isn't too bad, however she does assign a lot of reading. She's the best professor I've ever had. I will miss her when I graduate! You wont be sorry! I've taken her for 4 classes and wish I could take her for more!

Blow off class... She is energetic, but has some crazy ideas, I think she is a communist or something...Tests are easy, project is also easy, make sure you do it though. She gives extra credit too.

I love Professor Hinton! Before this class, I really wasn't that interested in Sociology, but now its my minor. Exams are 200 pts a piece and kinda hard, but you can drop one. She really seems to enjoy teaching and she is good at it! Take this class if you can.

She is a very good teacher, but I wouldn't take her for spring or summer she gives too much work.

Dr Hinton makes classes fun and interesting. In fall/winter classes the workload is very manageable and pretty easy. In spring/summer though it's a nightmare! If you take her in summer expect to be worked to death. I don't think I learned a lot from her, but the classes were fun and it wasn't hard to get an A. Good for sociology majors!

This teacher made the class very interesting. There is only one group presentation and the paper can't be longer than two pages. She gives you the option of taking the final which is just the last exam plus some extra questions. She drops your lowest exam grade. She is very down to earth and i would recommend taking taking her class.

Her lectures are very interesting but the homework, while infrequent can be a pain to complete.

I just took Soc 111 with Hinton for Winter 07' semester. You do not have to go to class, but it helps to take notes for exams. You have you have 3 EASY exams and a final. Final is OPTIONAL if you did good on the 3, then dont take it, but the FINAL is super EASY! Identical to 3rd exam plus 10 diff questions.

Dr.Hinton was a very cool teacher. She helped out a lot!!!!!!!!!!! And you could talk to her about anything. Plus she's a sista!lol. Shes very very very funny, and will do her best to keep the class interesting.

GREAT TEACHER:One project and five tests. She keeps lectures interesting and mixes them with activities. She's pretty funny. She'll help you with anything you don't understand and she is very good at communicating. She's friendly, but she doesn't take any crap and can't be talked into much. However, sometimes when she makes mistakes she denies them

She is the best teacher ever! She uses real life examples to help make things clearer. She also uses references from current events, as well as events that happened in the past. The work isn't hard, it just takes more than an hour to do. Use the book's website for study help (vocab is a biggy). She broadens your mind! :D

She is a great teacher. This was my first Soc class and I throughly enjoyed it. Make sure to speak to her about assignments. She is very helpful. Right your papers early, email them to her, and she was give you feedback, which will help to make your papers better. Be creative and neat with your poster project. Very friendly.

I do not recommend anyone to take her class. She has very strong views on her own personal beliefs that are incorporated into the class way to much. Make sure you read the book because her tests basically come out of them.

Class is very easy. tests maek up about 80% of the grade. BIG TIP: learn the vocab and be able to answer the questions at the end of the chapter, if you can do this you will get all A's on the tests. classes are kinda fun, great class overall, it really changes the way you see the world.

Fun personality and makes class interesting. However, too much time is focused on race and apparently every problem in the world stems from racism. Hmm. I enjoyed the class quite a bit, though. Very willing to help. Recommend!

Hinton is really nice, her personal beliefs get tied into her lectures a lot. Every single problem she addressed in my SOC class seemed to stem back to racism and a "white vs. black" mentality. It's a really easy class if you know the vocab and can answer the questions at the end of the chapters, you'll ace the tests. Ultimately I recommend her.

PLEASE. If you failed her sociology class its because your dumb. She is one of the best professors at this lame school. I loved her class and I througly enjoyed going to her. The only thing I could say I had a problem with is that her deadlines were pretty much written in stone but It wasnt like we didnt know when things were due.

Easy, easy, easy! Sociology by definition is not difficult in its intro classes but this prof simplifies everything. Tests are long- 100+ MC and matching definitions- but it never took me more than 45 minutes and I got As on them all. Final poster project can be done in 2-3 hours. Few one-page papers turned in online.

Funny woman, very interesting. We don't use the book alot. The tests are hard, but she is a fantastic teacher.

A lot of people are saying that she's really difficult but she's actually not that bad and she is sooo funny. Her tests are little out-there, but you just have to study really hard!

TAKE HER GREAT CLASS. Ok people this class is called sociology so it will talk about race i agree she is a little bias but if your not comfortable with who you are don't take her remember we are adults now. She has exams worth 200 points which are pretty hard if you are not good at test taking. I would definitely take her again

Dr. Hinton is very funny! She's very socialist and doesn't let you forget it, but the class was very easy. One project, a few tests, aced them all. Do not need book.

Dawn was great. Really easy if you use common sense. The reason she talks about the white class being raceless is cause we often don't identify ourselves as a color because of our power within social functioning. I didn't feel like I was being denied my ethnicity, as someone said, just that she's being realistic about social structure of society.

I don't know what all these negative comments are. Her syllabus was clear. I knew when things were due. She also always responded in a timely manner via email and answered all my Q's. Maybe fresh and soph need to get used to college before they diss a good prof. If you're a junior/senior and you did bad, then rethink your maj, this is a good class

Her lectures are very interesting and easy to understand. You can print off a lecture outline before class to take easy notes on. Her tests are difficult, but if you pay attention & take notes, they aren't too bad. There is one big group project-perhaps the most confusing part of the class. I liked her, I would take her again.

Greta, passionate teacher! Definitely recommend her! Takes test questions direy from power points or ch. review pages. Very little work but she taught us a ton. I thought this class would be lame but it was really fun and insightful! I'm so greatful she was my teacher! Def take her and pay attention in class! good luck!

Easy class if you attend class and take notes. Hinton is very funny and easy to get along with. She loves sociological conversations that get heated.

She makes the class interesting, shes a very outgoing person and for the most part, makes class fun. If you copy down her notes you will do good on the exams. A few take home assignments and one poster board assignment. She is always willing to help if you are lost on something. Overall a good professor for this class.

Dr. Hinton is WONDERFUL! She wants nothing but the best for her students. She is very helpful and tells your the best ways to study for her exams, which are ones you absolutely have to study for. She is the perfect teacher to have at 8:30 in the morning.

I LOVE Dr. Hinton. I had her class at 10AM and I didn't mind going. She made learning the material interesting and fun. Lots of laughs in this class, but you still learn a lot. If you're struggling go to her office hours and she WILL help you!

Dawn Hinton was the best professor i have had since I've been at svsu. I love the way she teaches, she makes sure that you understand the material a asks if you have any questions. she stresses that you go to her office hours if you need more help. there is one big group project and if you are unclear about what to do just ask she helped me.

I really enjoyed her class! Lectures were actually pretty fun and interesting. Tests are a little on the hard side, but as long as you study (from the book) you will be perfectly fine! Even if you are not a test taker you can still get a good grade in the class, because you get points for going and she grades easy on the few assignments she gives.

She is a tough grader and expects a lot out of you, but this class will help you really understand the subject. She is so helpful in office hours, and ask her how to study for her tests. Go to class because tests are based on notes and vocab in the book. One group poster, but it is easy and worth a lot! Would Recommend

Dr. Hinton is by far the best Professor I've had since the start of my college career! I love her spunk and drive early in the morning! She will always be loved by me. She's easy to talk to and makes each class interesting :) I pretty much always had a smile walking in and out of her class :)

Dr. Hinton gives great lectures but it is essential to read the book before coming to class. She gives three tests and a final that is not accumulative. One group project and three assignments throughout the semester. Attendance is part of your grade. The tests are pretty easy as long as you pay attention during lectures and read the book.

Dr. Hinton is a great professor. Most classes are lectures but she's really funny and makes them interesting. You get assigned a group that you work with sometimes, and there's one group project that is a presentation. Four exams, three assignments. Final isn't cumulative. Tests are fairly easy. I would take her again.

She is a great professor, I think she shows the truth of the society today. Some of the comments on here says she is bias about certain things but she is showing FACTS!!!! The exams were not terrible, it did however require some studying and there is a lot of group work.

This is a freshman level course. The tests are fair and really just based off what she said in class and what was in her notes, but I would definitely get the book because she uses it in class and it will help you for tests. She has a great energy and teaches you to question society and be open minded. She is very passionate and involves students.

Professor Hinton has high expectations for her students. Her Into to Sociology class is very interesting and focuses mostly on social issues. Attendance is crucial. Even though she can be strict, she is also hilarious and offers a lot of help. As long as you take the course seriously, you will do well.

I highly enjoyed this class. As long as you read the textbook and pay attention to the lectures youll do fine. Outlines of the notes are available online, I found these helpful to follow along with the lecture. I didnt read some chapters and still got a lowest score of 78% from paying attention to lectures and in class discussions. Recommend 100%

Best SOC professor I've ever had. you learn so much from her and her classes are simple. her online class was super well organized and it was easy to stay on track! She gives good feedback and is not a hard grader! There are weekly online quizzes, no midterm and no final, just two (larger) assignments. With 7 classes, this class was simple and easy

This professor is super passionate about what she teaches and tries to make lectures interesting! Not a lot of out of class assignments and has a clear expectation of grading. She is super easy to talk to and would recommend her for this course! Although the content can be difficult, her lectures and online notes help a lot!

Will have to read the textbook in order to do really well on the exams but overall is a hilarious teacher that I would reccomend o anyone. Class discussions are a must and can sometimes get heated on certain topics. Would take again, amazing professor.

Oh my goodness she is so funny. Quite the character, tells fun stories, actually teaches classes, and has us talk in groups often. She taught the foundation scholars class and it was always full of laughs and fun. Small class that got to know each other fairly well

Dr. Hinton gives great lectures and she is really funny! Reading the textbook is very helpful but her tests are very very hard. She is willing to help, her tests are just hard. Lots of group work and she gives 3 excused absences without an explanation, I would totally recommend her!!

Dr. Hinton was my favorite professor that I have had so far! She was easy to talk to, she was well prepared for class and she made sure the whole class was involved in her lectures. She put us into groups the first week and throughout the semester we worked on assignments with them. This class was where I met my best friend too. Love her class!

Most of the class was her lecturing. There was no textbook so the only study aid the powerpoints, hence why it was essential to attend class to take notes on her commentary that may show up on the exam. If you miss a class it is essential to get notes from someone.
