Dr. Lewis is an overall good teacher. she gives homework that can be googled and she hardly gives homework. attendance isn't really mandatory but she will know. if you buy the book and read the chapters you will pass. she does give powerpoint slides but they really aren't helpful. she says she doesn't cancel class but she does a lot
Dr. Lewis is very straight forward and has high expectations for her students. She is very helpful when approached in a respectful manner and is eager to help her students to learn the material. It is very possible to receive an A in her class as long as you pay attention and show an interest in the material.
I completed EVERY assignment and she gave me a D because she failed to mention the notebook check that would be given at the end of the semester. Her tests are ridiculously petty and she has an attitude. She's not a bad person, she's okay. But I would NEVER take her lab again.
This lady is like no professor i have ever met while attending famu. SHE makes work extremely harder than what it is. she could give you a assignment with 3 questions and expect at least have 4-5 pages woth of answers. i DO NOT recommend her at all. if you do have her be prepared to type ALOT.
Dr Lewis is a very straight forward instructor whom lets you know up front what you're getting into. This is NOT a spoon-feeding class like other professors at FAMU. She expects you to learn the material, PERIOD!! The exams can be hard if you try to study the night before. Just come to class prepared, read the book & answer all review questions
I took professor lewis over the summer and this class is no walk in the park. Dont be lazy and dont come to class with an attitude. She does not teach as much but its the petty things that are overlooked during the labs you will see on on the test. Study the worksheets and the labs and you should be fine. Its not an easy class,but dont over think.
Dr. Lewis is a good professor. She comes off mean, just get on good side. Do all of your assignments ON TIME and go to her office hours. You should be fine. Class was boringggg but I made a good grade.
Dr. Lewis is decent, but you will need to study and ask for help if you need it. She WILL NOT help you unless you help her.
Dr. Lewis isn't as mean as she comes off to be!! Do every extra credit assignment and lab report to the best of your ability. There are 3 or 4 exams which aren't too hard because she tells you exactly what chapters to read over; just study the lab manual, lab reports and extra credit assignments and you'll do fine. I got a B
She comes off very strong but is a nice lady. On the other hand, she catches attitudes, phones are not allowed in her class, she gives group assignments. Her tests were very challenging u MUST have the book & MUST come to class. She does gives extra credit. There are 3-4 test. She also gives written assignments! If I had to take her again, i wont!!
Shes okay. I would only suggest her if you are good in biology. She is very passionate about her work and you can tell. Also she wont accept bs, so dont try and bs her.
Tests are hard if you don't study, STUDY HER POWERPOINTS SHE POSTS TO BLACKBOARD. She is an amazing teacher class isn't hard if you put in work she comes off a little mean but talk to her she'll loosen up she has kids also so she understands. Class is mandatory
She is a great professor, who is not afraid to speak her mind. She is an EXTREMELY tough grader. Do NOT take out your phone unless instructed to for pictures. Ladies cover up, no tank tops or shorts, she will call you out!! No head gear, even if you're having a bad hair day. Always bring lab coat!!! She is more favorable to males!!! NO B.S WORK!!!
A lot of people could not handle it but this was my favorite class of the semester. She is a tough cookie but if you do your work you will easily land on her good side.
Ms. Lewis may come off as tough at first but she will always be there for you if you need help with bringing your grade up. Make sure to study off powerpoint lectures for test. All she does is read off the powerpoint during class so take good notes. A daily quiz is your attendance in that class so it is mandatory.
She can come off as very strict but she is foreign and has high expectations for her students. But it gets better as the semester go by. You have to do labs as a group every class and lab reports. She grades the lab reports kind of tough but the exams and quizzes are straight forward if you really study. She offers tons on extra credit though.
She is loud and rude. Lab seemed more like lecture with her. Asked her about my groups results once and she told me look it up on the internet.
IDr. Lewis is the best professor for teaching BSC 1011 out of the others. With her, there is hope getting the grade you want out of the class. While the other 1011 professors only grade the students off 3 exams, Dr. Lewis offers EXTRA WORK. The exams are really hard, if you dnt understand the concept, you willfail the test. SO STUDY! DONT BE LAZY!
In her class, she will appear to be extremely rude and she has a high inconsiderance towards some** students. Please have your lab coat READY on the first day, study for your labs in advance and don't take her for granted because she has no sympathy. Tests are on PowerPoint and SHE WILL NOT GO BACK for you if you miss a question! Good luck lol
Dr. Lewis comes off hard at first but if the class interacts with her she will loosen up. She does not curve the tests at all so make sure you study as much as possible. She gives quizzes for extra credit so know the material. At the end she may offer extra credit so take it!
I absolutely loved Dr. Lewis. She comes off as rude, but in reality she has high expectations for her students and really wants the best for us. She's actually very funny. Be on time and have your lab manual ready from the beginning, and be ready to work. We did lab reports on every lab, but they aren't due weekly. If you can take her, do it.
Lewis is very RUDE, inconsiderate and just nasty hearted in some situations. She told my classmates if we couldn't afford the utensils in her class then go make a 'go fund me' or drop out! So, good luck future students.. my best advice is to take ANYONE except this lady... best wishes if u do!
Like someone said, she comes off as rude but in reality, she has high expectations for her students. Her class is really not hard unless you make it seem hard! Her quizzes and tests come from the content that she posts on Blackboard, just read it! I got an A because I earned it! Also show her that you care and she will look out for you.
She's not a bad teacher, but be prepared to work. Each class we had an exam or quiz and she will expect you to know next class material beforehand. You will need to study and do well on your labs.
Personally, I felt Dr. Lewis would be extremely hard because she was a strict teacher. The key is to do your in class work and do your lab reports without any spelling errors. If she likes you, you will pass easily. She gave us extra credit at the end and makes sure we all come out on top. If you take her be prepared to work.

She gives extra credit towards the end of the semester. Be prepared to write a lab report for every lab and she does take attendance be there or be square. Very tough grader ask for her feedback after class to improve. Test will be written response and there will not be a study guide she will go over whats on the test but it's very broad
She does not teach to prepare the students for the test. We were usually blindsided when it came to the tests. She does offer extra credit quizzes though and group projects to help contribute to your grade.
YOU NEED TO P A Y ATTENTION! Dr. Lewis is very difficult professor because she makes you WORK for you grade. I've never worked so hard for a 2 credit hour class in my life until I was enrolled in her class, but I learned how much potential I have. This is not an "Easy A" "Come to class when you want" "Walk in the park" type of class.
DO NOT get Lewis, if youre not beyond amazing in Bio. She does not teach she reads her PowerPoint off the screen, which by the way are 160+ slides, and she changes slides faster than you can write. She also just gives you an OVERLOAD of information and expects you remember EVERY detail. learn from my mistakes, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH LEWIS.
If you want to FAIL take her!! I am a biology major and a hard working student but I have never fought so hard for a C. We only had 3 exams and she doesnt curve or drop. We had masteringbio hw but she didnt put the grades in for them. There is an INSANE extra credit project. And she just reads off the slides the whole time but she passes it so fast
Dr. Lewis is tough, I will get that out of the way. She is notorious for pushing her students and making them give more than they are usually used to. Some students don't like it, but it makes you a better person, student, and professional. I never felt like she didn't care. She cares about the material and the students. I had her for lab as well.
She is such a wonderful person. Soooo loving and caring its crazy BUT IF YOU ARENT WILLING TO BUCKLE DOWN A STUDY. When I say study I mean everyday know your information in and out then DO NOT TAKE HER. You will struggle for no reason
One of the toughest classes Ive taken. Shes extremely strict and grades hard on everything! I got 30 points off of an assignment because I didnt put the correct date on a lab report. Do the lab reports they are what make or break your grade! Do them and do well on them or you WILL fail!
This professor will fail you, do Not take her. You will have pop quizzes every week, in-dept lab reports, she takes points off of everything. She doesn't care about your grade and is very rude! No one has ever passed with an A in her class is something she brags about. Avoid her !!!!!!!!!!
Class is only once a week so you need to go! All you do is take pre-test and lab reports. In the beginning she does not tell you how she wants it done. she want you to kiss up to her. Once you get the hang of it things get better. You really need to study the lab before going to class in order to do good. She never wants to help fr. You need peers!
Worst teacher out there. Hands down. Save your money. Wait another semester for another teacher. No matter how good u THINK you are at science/bio, ur not passing the class. Im convinced she cant even pass her own class if she tried.
Dr. Lewis isn't as bad as the rates show. Her class is just note taking and then you go home and do the hw. She gives extra credit before or after each test taken. The HW and tests aren't hard if you take good notes. A con is she's very strict on cellphones use in class. Overall, she was good a professor and she likes to crack jokes at times.
If you failed her class it's because you didn't make an effort to show her you cared.. or maybe you missed more than three classes or was always on your phone.
Dr. Lewis isnt that bad of a person but her class is hard! She goes through slides really fast and goes over a lot of information within the 50 minutes and expects us to remember everything. Test are extremely hard. On our 1st exam only 4 out of 60 passed and on the 2nd the average was around 40%. It got so bad that we had to take tests in groups
She comes to class 10-15 minutes late sometimes. Her test are hard but they are mostly based on the mastering biology. The whole class is failing and she doesnt really try to help you better. She barely does any extra credit. Are grades are based on tests. She lectures daily & expect you to know all the info. given. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS !
Lecture is based off Powerpoints that have nothing to do with the exams. Does not curve. Does not prepare you for the tests. Tests are extremely hard and she does not care. She wants people (actually urges them) to withdraw. Final exam was all written, no multiple choice and she does not give a study guide so you're stuck studying everything.
Bio 2 its self is a lot. For her lab just study the PowerPoint and you would be good. She dont curve but the quizzes before the lab exams are used as extra credit. And the test has little extra credit at the end of each one. Failed the 1st exam with a F, 2nd with a C, and the other two with Bs. Theres a group project at the end that helps!
Dr. Lewis is a great professor although she can be harsh at times she cares about her students. The class is hard and you will learn a lot of content at once but you must manage your time and study that is the only way youll pass. Dr. Lewis looked out for many and many others because we participated and got to know her.
If you want to learn take her! Shes very stern but it pays off in the end. Shes a tough grader and person but she does that to ensure you understand the content. You have to have self discipline to take her class. We hade about 4-5 text that was multiple choice and written response and she gave tons of homework but most of it was on the test.
The tests are difficult and there is a lot of information to learn but if you show her that you care and you try your best, she will pull through and help you in the end! By taking this class I learned how to study more effectively. I had a D for the majority of the semester and ended with an A! She is not as bad as most make her out to be.
In all honesty I thought I was going to fail her class I had an D all semester. The test are really hard and full of information from the labs. The lab reports are time consuming and she is a little strict but if you show her you care and are putting forth effort she will help you out. She does care about her students. I passed with an A.
If a better professor is available, take them instead. She is a tough grader so you pretty much have to be perfect to pass her class with an A. She may let you re-do some assignments but good luck with her grading scale. I do not recommend.

Constantly berates students never thinks she is at fault, always blames the student. Does not care about students required social interaction during pandemic. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
She is very stern but you can tell its just because she cares. She isnt going to go easy on you and in the beginning it may feel like she doesnt care if you pass or fail but she isnt a bad professor. Make sure you communicate with your classmates! Work as a team,do your work and show up you should get a fair grade.

She is so difficult and mean in the beginning! Her in person class meetings she doesn't allow phones, water, food, electronics, talking, or walking out for emergencies so if you go out just stay out! We are in college! We are adults! She is very stern. There are ncer professors to go for. Would not recommend.
Dawn Lewis isnt as bad they make it seem. Dont be intimidated. Show up on time with your camera on & participate when she asks questions. Have at least ONE personal conversation with her and shell remember you forever. (great for recommendations) Tests are based on power-points (posted on canvas) 50-60 questions. Work SMART not HARD! People will warn you not to take her class. However, I grew to respect her and actually learned a lot from her. Seriously, youll pass her class if you want to. I thought I was gonna end with a C, but I worked hard and ended up with an A. The extra credit helps ALOT!
one of the hardest graders, I never got a A on the lab reports even though I worked my butt off on them, never passed any of her tests because she expects you to learn over 200 organisms and plants and be able to identify EVERYTHING about them like what family or order or genus they are from. I was literally failing her class all semester
Extremely difficult test, don't expect to be clearly prepared. You won't be given a study guide and to prepare for test she simply says read the book. Test are timed of course and questions are mostly written response.
There's so much to say about her. But I'll simply wrap it up to this. Do not take her for this class. It isn't worth the unprofessionalism, and it is a complete waste of time. Save your GPA and mental anguish, dont take. VERY unprofessional, would mute students on zoom making it impossible to ask questions about the lecture. TESTS ARE RIDICULOUS. Treats 1 years like grad students :(. Refused to give a rubric for assignments. Argued with students about cameras every class meeting. Overall, not a good experience. AVOID!!!
The worst professor anyone could ever get. She didn't care about if the whole class was failing. She was grading hard and asking for things on an assignment that was included on the rubric, and it has even been times she didn't even give out a rubric. 100% do not recommend for you to take.
She is the worst professor I've had at FAMU. I had to drop the class and I took another professor the following semester... which I made an A in. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, save yourself the headache.
She isn't too nice. She doesn't like when students walk out, she says don't come back. No water, no snacks, no restroom, no phones or computers out. It felt like high school again. Take a nice and understanding professor if you can.

I would not recommend anyone to take this course. The professor refused to care for students help when needed. Never responds to anyone emails. Stopped a lecture with the assumption of students not paying attention when everyone was taking notes and stormed out the room. No study guide for any of the exams. I repeat, do not have this professor.

I made the choice to withdraw from the lecture and the lab taught by her after failing multiple tests even after studying and was glad I did because most people got Ds and Fs. Take anyone else if you can seriously.
She is way too strict. Makes you feel like a small child. She's very mean, rude and serious. Doesn't smile. Gets made easily. She is not nice, and won't curve. She makes the subject very difficult for nothing. It should be about fun and learning. Not taking down to us while being mean.
She gave me a C so I passed but she was rude, I give test difficulty a 3 out of 4 the material wasnt completely off but it wasnt exact and she doesnt give study guides she wants us to study everything. She gave out quizzes on kahoot for 3 weeks. She has moments were shes kinda ok but the lectures get boring after 30 to 45 minutes.
Please whatever you do, do NOT take her!! Her tests are extremely hard because she expects her students to know all of the information from the textbook and most of the questions are fill in the blank with no word bank. If you end up taking her do not rely on her power points because nothing from her lectures will be on any of the tests.
Her class isnt the worst class work wise, but exams are a very big part of the class, her lectures are boring, and you MUST study outside of class.

She is just an all around bad professor. There were times where she thought people weren't paying her enough attention when we were taking notes from the powerpoint and she packed up her things and just walked out of the classroom. There are no study guides to help with tests and the test material had nothing to do with the lectures or homework.

Labs are very long and time consuming. Also, the tests are very hard so prepare to read the textbook on your own because the lectures are short
PLEASE DO NOT ENROLL in this lady's class. On the first day of the semester, she immediately mispronounced my name and said it was spelled wrong. She also said that she does not allow you to answer important phone calls during class. There is a lot of unnecessary work, and it is not related to the actual material that she teaches.
I took Dr. Lewis for both, lecture and lab. I built a relationship with her, which I feel played a role in me getting an A in both courses. Use detail when taking her tests... she likes when people elaborate in their answers. Also, use the Active Reading Guides on MyLab to study. You'll see a lot of the same questions. Don't say I didn't tell you.
Definitely not my favorite professor thus far at FAMU. exams are extremely difficult, and it takes a lot of reading to understand and get at least one question right on the exam. She definitely has favoritism so I guess try to make yourself known. She offers extra credit but if you're not doing well already, don't bother staying in her class.

Lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the test. She's very rude, and will stop teaching in the middle of class if everyone is not looking at her. Way too stern for college. No bathroom or water breaks. If you leave don't bother to come back in. No emergencies allowed. Don't even take her if she's the last one left. Honestly one of the rudest professors at FAMU. Her test are written, no multiple choice but may be some matching. She truly believes that her class is the most important class in the world. Her class is lecture heavy so the chapters could be 100+ slides. The textbook isnt used in class but still get it as a just encase. I highly recommend to avoid
If you want a professor that will push you to read, study , and actually learn, take her. She is strict, but her intention is for you to actually learn. use outside resources. In class, ask questions, participate. She likes conversations. Reading guides helpful. Use google and Youtube as well. Go to her office hours. Ask questions.
Very challenging class, the tests were difficult and not OPEN book at all. Stay persistent and you should be fine. Start studying a week in advance literally, attend the office hours and build a relationship with her and you should be fine. I passed with a C in the class

dawn lewis made my life miserable. i stressed for this class so very hard and studied for hours on hours. beware you will fail. our whole class failed every test and i barely made it out with a C. she is very mean and disrespectful to students she does not care about you or your dreams do not take her if you can help it
This teacher is very unprofessional and unreasonable. She teaches very fast and has a very smart mouth. She doesn't allow students to go to the bathroom, even when it's an emergency. Her tests are very hard and barely do reviews for them. RUN WHILE U CAN.
Off the bat I'm suggesting you find a different bio teacher. She is so degrading, often goes on rants about phones, cheating, comparing us to other races of children shes taught, and much worse. Half the class is taken up by these rants and the other half is her speeding though powerpoints. Extremely test heavy and is strict and set on her rules.
I took her twice, both times because she was the only class that still had availability, She compares our school very heavily to other hbcu's and pwi's often shining us in a very negative light. I had a C when I took her for bio 2 and I only got a B in her lab class because I was already used to her teaching methods. I don't recommend taking her.

Professor Lewis runs a tough class, but engaging with the material and resources like unstuck ai can help. Be prepared to study hard, attend office hours, and stay persistent - it pays off in the end.
She has a terrible teaching style. I would personally stay away and just take a different class or wait until you receive a better professor. Her tests are free response. You need to be able to type out your answer in detail. If you are not skilled with this, do not take her. If you are good with teaching yourself, then take her.

She is not the nicest person at first but she is hard with a purpose. So if you can get over that, you can succeed in the class. All the test questions are from the textbook or homework she doesn't write her own tests. So if you study the questions from the book you will do well on the exams.
