Professor Wood is great. The class is pretty easy, just a weekly reading quiz and a couple of other assignments. It is her first semester teaching but she is no stranger to BYU. She was a straight-A student years ago and mentored by Dr. Bigler. I don't know if she'll be back again but I hope that she is!
She is awesome at giving a lot of benefits to students. She does help out a lot. In her lectures she repeats what's in the book though. She was great overall.
You don't need to attend the lectures to pass, but it will definitely help. Not very interesting so you don't have to go every week. Very nice teacher.
She hardly teaches, but brings in a lot of guest lecturers relevant to different Psychology branches. Weekly reading quizzes that are easy even without reading the whole chapter. Only a few assignments outside of reading. Easy class if you show up.
This course was super easy but I believe it was very helpful and would be even more helpful to a starting out freshman. Professor would is super lenient and kind and provides every possible way to succeed. Requires a weekly reading and quiz. Participation isn't mandatory but is super helpful. Great class, great teacher, I wish she taught more.
Class was easy. Lots of guest lecturers telling about their career. There are quizzes each week and they took me over 30 minutes to do because they are quite long and basically looking for the exact wording from the book. There is one paper but just follow the guideline and you will get a good grade. Go to class, it is actually helpful.
The class is meant to either inform you or bore you. If you're bored by every lecture given, then you shouldn't major in psychology. If you're bored by some lectures but intrigued by one or two, then you may have figured out what you want to do for the rest of you life! HOORAY! So, depending on your interests, the class will be interesting or not.
Professor Wood is a great teacher in that she cares about each of the students and wants to help you succeed. She is readily available during her office hours if you make an appointment and replies quickly to emails.
She was overall a happy, optimistic person. She always seemed excited for class and to teach us about our potential in the field of psychology. It was a very fun class and it was enjoyable learning from her.
Super sweet teacher who really loves what she does and wants her students to succeed. 1 online quiz a week that's super easy. Lectures are given by different presenters representing different fields. Kind of repetitive information, but can help you figure out what you want to specialize in. VERY easy final if you attend class and do quizzes.
The entire class is devoted to writing a literature review on a psychological topic of your choice. It is a doozy of an assignment, but Prof. Wood does an excellent job of making it easy to manage. She cares a lot about her students and does everything she can to help you succeed. I highly recommend taking 307 from her.
Professor Wood is so sweet and willing to help students. The class was ridiculously easy. One quiz online weekly, one MyMAP assignment, one essay, and the final. All are super easy, and not very time consuming.
Prof Wood is the nicest person you will ever meet. She is very passionate about what she teaches and passionate about helping her students. I have visited her office ours multiple time to simply talk about research ideas and projects. She has always given me great insights and who to contact! I will take a class from again anytime!
WAY TOO MUCH WORK FOR A ONE CREDIT CLASS!!! She expects you to do reading quizzes before every single class. They're not hard, but they take up time. There is also a final and a 3 page paper. For one credit? No thank you.
Professor Wood is great! I really enjoyed her Psych 307 class. I actually enjoyed writing the long research paper, and I learned A TON. Really motivating and inspiring. And, she is the only professor that doesn't give a final.
Professor Wood is an angel. She gives amazing feedback and takes time for each individual student. There is a lot of reading for the class, but it's worth it. She doesn't do any busy work and really just cares that the information sticks. The project itself was super hard, but she makes it a lot easier by breaking it down.
Professor Wood is AMAZING. She cares so much about her students and works with them to ensure that they succeed. She made Psych 307 bearable. Take this class from her!
I only went to class on the last day to do a final review and still managed to get a 92 on the final (and a 101 overall). Take the time to do the weekly quizzes and go over your two big projects with your TA and you will be fine. If you choose not to go to class just skim over the PDF presentations posted on LS. It's Psych 101... easy.
Professor Wood is a great teacher in that she is passionate about her classes. I have taken classes before from her and find her very personable. I LOVED Psychology of Gender but I felt that Professor Wood had been hyped up a lot. Everyone likes her and she knows it, she also knows that she is smart and isn't afraid to express that to the class...
It's a lot of work for a one credit class. There are quizzes every week, and the professor never really teaches. There is extra- credit but it takes a lot of time, and almost not worth doing.
This is a intro class to the psych major. Every week you will have 1 quiz, open book, easy A and there will be different people brought in every week to give lectures of their certain psych field they study in. Easy class, you don't have to go for attendance but at the end of the semester, you will have a final that asks questions about lectures
The class has weekly quizzes which are easy. The "Transition Plan" paper was more time consuming than I think it should have been for a 1 credit class but that was by far the worst part. The final exam is pretty easy as well. Going to class is helpful, especially for the final, but not super necessary.
All you have to do is take the open book quizzes and stay on top of it and you will be fine. This class is very informational and applicable. Very easy A.
She is amazing. This is my third class I've taken from her, and I have loved all of them. There's a lot of writing (mini research project each week), but once you get into a routine it's very manageable (and can actually be fun). Love her lectures. Love the topic. Great discussions.
Hands down the best professor (or possibly teacher) I've ever had. You owe it to yourself: take at least one class from Dr. Wood. You will not regret it.
I LOVE Dr. Wood. I'm so glad I was able to take another class from her. She's so empathetic toward people who've had life experiences other than her own and she helps her students understand gender-related issues. As a gay student I always felt safe talking to her. She has you write a paper every week and take a quiz over each week's chapter.
Best Professor ever! Seriously so kind and helpful. Makes time for lots of opportunities for students to reach out to get help and advice with the class and major. The coursework is very light and the textbook was online and free!
Professor Wood's three classes are the greatest. She organizes assignments in a way that pushes you to learn skills and become a better person. She is more focused on helping you produce quality work than lecturing and giving tests. I also appreciated her desire to build students into leaders. Overall, I definitely recommend her classes.
Professor Wood made a boring 101 class enjoyable. She is very caring and willing to meet with students at their convenience. This class wasn't too hard, she made it doable.
Writing an entire lit review for the first time can be really intimidating but Professor Wood made it worth it. She is very kind and understanding; she genuinely wants you to succeed. She really takes the time to walk through each of the aspects of a lit review with you and she's always there to help!
Professor Wood has helped me become a better writing than I ever thought possible. She is great at giving feedback on your paper. Take advantage of her or her TA's office hours to make sure your paper is perfect! The entire semester you work on your Lit Review so it's no overwhelming at all. I would definitely take from her again.
Professor Wood is an absolute sweetheart. I was in a PSYCH 101 class with over 100 students and you could tell she cared for each one of us. The weekly reading quizzes are a breeze as long as you remember to do them. There's 2 big papers throughout the semester but she gives very clear grading criteria so I got high As on them. Easy A.
She was so sweet! So willing to meet with and help students, and they made the assignments adaptable for nonmajors like me. There are open book reading quizzes and a comprehensive final over some of the quizzes and the guest lectures. The final is much easier if you pay attention in class.
The class is boring, and the professor isn't clear about almost anything.
This is a one-hour seminar lecture series class. If you do the reading and have someone taking notes on the guest lectures, you'll be fine.
Professor Wood is amazing! She helps you every step of the way to write an awesome literature review and gives so much feedback. She is so caring and I really recommend taking this from her!
Super clear about what you're graded on. Easy weekly quizzes. And make sure you go to class.
I'm guessing most of the people who liked this class are psych majors. Professor Wood really is as nice as everyone says she is but this class is not structured like most one credit classes. I wouldn't take it unless you're seriously considering the psych major. It's very informative but it's a lot of work. Don't take it to fill your schedule.
Dawn-Marie is super willing to make sure you get the best experience and best grade you can. The class dealt with specifics in the psychology department which helped me see that I don't want to major in psych, which is still successful! Good class to get an overview of what psych career would look, but very specific. Go to lecture (once a week)!
Absolutely without a doubt one of the most caring professors on BYU campus. She managed to teach a class on the psychology of gender in both a spiritual and a secular way, which I didn't think was possible. There is a lot of work, don't get me wrong, but it was so worth the chance to discuss a faith AND science-affirming perspective on gender.
Yep, take from her. Best professor at BYU, by far.
Dr. Wood has a lot of intellect, however, she struggles with her lectures. You don't really learn anything from her lectures, but attendance is required. Be prepared to read a lot and to do long projects every week. Lots and lots of busy work, but no time in lectures to do anything.
Professor Wood is a very nice lady. PSYCH306 is not a very nice lady. Supposed to be a psychology class. Instead it is based on a textbook with the curriculum to indoctrinate on progressive ideas.
Pretty good class. Material won't be new to you unless you've never left Utah. Attendance mandatory, with lots of little assignments that add up to make your grade, but there are some extra credit opportunities. Tests are super easy, study for an hour and you'll ace it.
Does a good job of presenting info that some consider to be contradictory to BYU and the church in general. NOT "indoctrinating progressive ideals", just teaching modern information on the psychology of gender. Professor Wood does a great job of making room for all opinions and acknowledges how touchy the subject can be for many.
The whole class is about writing one paper. Lose points for every APA mistake on each assignment! Not super forgiving about forgetting deadlines. BUT she is very understanding of personal circumstances. I had some personal issues during the semester and missed a few critical deadlines, and when I talked to her she gave me advice and an extension.
Professor Wood is really dedicated and experienced. She cares a lot, and it shows! However, she may not be the best fit for everyone. The overall classroom vibe was uptight, and the grading was stringent.
Excessive amount of homework and projects, basically need to write 3-5 page essay every week. Lectures weren't engaging, textbook even less so. Weekly vocab quizzes. Did other homework in class, kind of studied for the exams and got A's. Would have skipped every class but attendance was mandatory.
Professor Wood is seriously one of the most inspiring professors on BYU campus. My friends and I took 101, 307, and 306 from her, and eventually became her TAs. The new textbook makes this class really thought provoking and the guest speakers are amazing! I have never felt so uplifted in a class. The material is easy, Lectures are thought provoking
Professor Wood is really kind. She is a ncie professor and a fair grader. I think that I would have had a better experience if I had taken her for another class. I took her for Psych 306, which is Psychology of Gender. This could have easily been renamed "theology of gender" because it seemed that most of what she referenced was prophets/apostles.
This class is basically eternal families. Professor Wood talks about being open minded but the class is very one-sided. The class is easy but frustrating. She talks to everyone like they are children and it is very obvious what her opinion on things are. She disagrees with the textbook which feels like the only academic aspect of the class.
I love Prof Wood! She's super sweet and cares deeply about her students. You spend the entire semester writing a literature review, and she holds your hand throughout the entire process. It isn't bad as long as you stay on schedule and reach out when you need help. She's passionate and more than willing to help if you are ever struggling.
She is literally so amazing. I want everyone to take PSYCH 306 from her. It should be a required class. It covers such sensitive and controversial topics, but she is SO GREAT at making sure everyone is respected and heard. I LOVE her and I want to work with her more in the future!!
PSYCH 307 pushed me out of my comfort zone a lot. Professor Wood set the bar very high and is a strict grader, but is so professional and kind and offers great feedback. I went from crying about the syllabus to submitting my lit review for publication. You will feel so confident about your writing and presentation skills by the end of this class!
Professor Wood handled difficult topics in a graceful way that allowed students to form their own informed opinion. This is a class that should be taken by everyone regardless of being a psych major. The requirements are not overbearing, but may seem a bit tedious at times. Loved this class and Professor Wood, cannot rate high enough.
Lots of short essay assignments, basically every week. And it's important to read and attend the lectures, participation is important. This was the second class I've taken from Professor Wood and I liked this class even better. She cares a lot about the topic and her students. She's clear about what will be quizzed/tested on. A great professor.
Prof. Wood genuinely cares about her students and encourages you to reach out to her for help or additional feedback. The class is basically writing one big literature review (a daunting task) but Prof. Wood guides you along the process. Be prepared to write a ton, edit a ton, and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE.
Hands-down the worst professor I've had or met, and I now have multiple graduate degrees. This class is not about the psychology of gender and will instead reinforce what many LDS students already know about their theology. Her way of teaching the course often bordered on a Title IX violation, and grades were often determined by one's thesis.
You cant fake it in PSYCH 307, but your writing will improve more than you can imagine if you put in the work for it. Professor Wood is fantastic - shes very engaging and involved and really cares about her students success. Use all the resources you possibly can, and do NOT procrastinate!
I absolutely loved Professor Wood. The class isn't easy and she expects a lot of you, but you'll grow so much as a writer by taking it from her. You could tell that she genuinely cared about each student's success. Probably one of my favorite Professors I've had at BYU.
By far the best professor at BYU. So openminded and ready to accept everyone who comes into her class. Weekly guest lecturers are so interesting and interesting. I wish this class was a GE! Take this class from Professor Wood, theres no one better.
Great professor, extremely caring. Was a little upset I ended up with a grade I did because of attendance, but other than that a really knowledgeable professor with good insight into psychological writing. If you don't mind coming to class every week, I strongly, strongly recommend Professor Wood.
I would take every class I could from Professor Wood. She is phenomenal. I would recommend this class to anyone who struggles with LGBTQAI+ issues and the Church. I was able to work out some of my own questions/concerns throughout the semester. She is respectful of all and created a safe atmosphere. The research discussed is very interesting too.
Only 2 papers (not difficult or lengthy), research participation (can be done online), and a final (but with the best study guide). If you go to lectures and participate in your discussion group, its an easy A. Material is super interesting and the textbook is surprisingly an easy read. Dr. Wood is compassionate and helpful. TAs are really involved
I absolutely loved taking this class from Professor Wood. The paper (10-15 pages) may feel dense, but we do it step by step and break it down into very manageable chunks. If you stay on track you will do great and you won't have to cram everything in at the end of the semester. Professor Wood is kind and cares about her students and their success.
Professor Wood is a great lecturer; however, the class cared too much about the perspective of the Church. We also discussed sexuality a lot in terms of the gospel for a class on gender. The guest lecturers are interesting, but they made me depressed. If you're LGBT maybe skip this take and take another one for the requirement.
I love Professor Wood; anybody would be lucky to take a class from her. PSYCH 306 can be a mixed bag. The people in your class can honestly make or break your experience, and there are a lot of topics that I wish were covered more in depth, but you also get out what you put into it. As long as you do the work, you'll be just fine.
This was my favorite class the semester I took it. Prof. Wood is INCREDIBLE. She cares about the subject and teaches it well. She has the perfect balance of homework and lecture learning. I would take every class she teaches if I could. You only have to write 2 or 3 papers and the final is SUPER straightforward. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this class.
This Professor is awesome and you should take her if you can! She is very helpful and understanding. She met one on one with me, took feedback, and even implemented changes in her class just to help students out that had my concern. Outstanding professor, would rate 10 stars if I could.
Professor Wood was a very good teacher. She cares for her students and helps out where she can. She is very approachable and willing to talk with you. I saw her on campus outside of class and she recognized me. She wants to make sure her students are learning the most updated psychology curriculum.
Pro. Wood is amazing and incredibly intelligent and sensitive. I was impressed by this class and felt grateful for the experience.
You know that Prof Wood cares about you and your success. I have never met a more personable professor. You will grow so much as a writer if you take 307 from her, and you'll walk away from the class knowing she set you up for success not only in the class but through the rest of the PSYCH major and beyond.
Prof. Wood was a great professor for an Intro to Psych class. Super interesting lectures and I liked how she structured our homework. I do wish that our midterm was a test instead of a paper, so we could see how she would ask test questions, but other than that it was a great class. Enjoyed meeting with our discussion groups as well.
Only assignments were pre-class readings/quizzes online (super easy, nothing to be worried about even if you're not a textbook reader) that were graded on a participation basis (as in, you could get a 50% on the quiz, but get 100% in the gradebook because you tried). Whole class is spent on group discussions. 2 super easy papers, 1 final @ the end.
The Psychology of Gender course is great but overly focused on discussion, especially about Church. I wish we could go over the actual course content rather than discussing too much. I sometimes wonder if I am taking Psychology course or Religion course on gender.
Professor Woods lectures were on the boring side. The TA's during the small group discussions helped to make the content engaging. This was an easy A class. TA's grade the papers and are pretty relaxed with them. Unfortunately, attendance is mandatory to get a good grade.
Professor Wood is super sweet! However, we learn through a reverse classroom (we are expected to learn the material on our own, take quizzes, and then come to class and discuss what we learned). This is the hardest class I've taken at BYU! The final is worth 30% of your grade... multiple quizzes each week as well. 2 midterms.
You can tell she really cares about each of her students. Lectures can get kinda dense but attendance does effect your grade a lot so don't skip. There was only one test the entire semester and two short papers. There was reading before each class but I'd skim. She has a study guide that directly correlates to the final. She makes the class easy.
I agree with the rating below. This very much felt like a religion class, not a psychology class. We spent very little class time talking about content from the textbook, yet she required us to know it for the exam. We had lots of guest presenters which was a fun change, but again it was all very religion-heavy.
Prof Wood is the best professor I've had! She completely changed my outlook on writing and made me want to be a better writer. She met with me individually each week during the semester outside of her office hours to accommodate my schedule. She really cares about her students and will do everything in her power to help them succeed.
The lit review was a little stressful, but it's honestly not that bad. It's 5 pages and she will help you out so much if you just ask! She is a kind professor. The guest presenters throughout the semester were life-changing! I absolutely loved what we learned in this class. Take Psych of Gender from Professor Wood!!
Go to class and put effort into the assignments and it's pretty easy. Attendance is worth 16% of your grade. They pass around a clipboard in class, so there isn't a way to get attendance without being there. She puts a lot of effort into balancing worldly perspectives and the Gospel
The TAs taught better than her. (she was absent 4 times) Class was fine, easy-ish. but wow she cannot teach. First 3 classes I fell asleep in, the class ended up being on their phones 90% of the time for the rest of the year. She goes way to fast to take notes. Expects you to learn on your own... like nah bro I have a life, teaching is YOUR job.
Professor Wood was sweet, but her lectures are so boring. I really liked the structure of the class, I always looked forward to the small group discussions and the conversations those brought up. It was genuinely such an easy class, it's hard to complain too much, I just did not love her lecture style, and ended up using lectures for hw most days.
The class can be a bit busy at times, but Professor Wood genuinely cares about her students and making sure we learn.
Professor Wood is great! She is very kind and willing to work with you. I loved attending her class--the lectures were relevant and interesting! Definitely would take this class from her again!
I have never rated anyone on rate my professor before, but Dr. Wood deserves it! She is quite possibly the best professor I have ever had. She is obviously incredibly knowledgeable, and cares about her student's learning. She is so understanding if you are struggling, and she learned my name by the 3rd class period without me telling her. THE BEST!
Very interesting class with fascinating lectures. She knew the names of everyone in the class, even those that didn't participate as often. Gave tons of notice for upcoming assignments and made sure that grading was fair. Would definitely recommend!
Absolutely take this class! 2 weekly writing assignments and a quick reading quiz. Unit tests every 4 weeks and a final paper/presentation. She gives you the study guides at the beginning of the unit and that is all you need to know for the tests. I loved Prof Wood! She is so kind and has a clear love for psychology. Guest presenters every Friday!
Lectures drew heavily from the textbook and church doctrine, which was expected for a BYU class on gender. Half the class was spent talking about how to talk about the content delicately, which was unnecessary for me, but it was easy to get a good grade and Prof. Wood is very nice. I wished there was more encouraging discussion of LGBTQ+ topics.
Loved Professor Wood! Her classes were really engaging and the way she taught was clear and organized.
Amazing professor. Makes time for you outside of class. She wants us to do well in this class.
Professor Wood is literally my favorite professor. She is genuine, caring and loves what she does. The class is half lecture and half discussion group about the lecture, but both are enjoyable and it will be your favorite class. You need to be good about repetitive study to memorize everything though. Make sure you get an in with your TA!
I liked this class more than I thought I would. It was just the right amount of difficulty for a subject like this. I thought Dr. Wood always made the class enjoyable and relative to life. It wasn't overwhelming, but there was homework.
I loved professor Wood! She is a professor who wants you to succeed. I took this class during the spring term and she cut some assignments so the workload wouldn't be extreme. Long lectures were engaging and tests/ quizzes were easy to study for due to the detailed study guide she provided. I would take the rest of my classes from her if I could.
Professor Wood is a caring and engaging professor. There is a decent amount of reading each week and there's three exams, but they're doable. There's one literature review, but it's also doable if you stay on top of it. We had lots of insightful class discussions! I would recommend this professor for this class!
Professor Wood is great, but her class focused too much on the church for a psych class. When she mentioned a concept from the textbook, mostly with LGBTQ topics, she explained it only from a LDS perspective. The guest lectures were interesting but too focused on religion. Felt like a religion class and was invalidating as a LGBTQ person sometimes.
