PHYS 207 is a difficult class, but Dr. Dawson made it pretty easy. If you ever had a question, you could go into his office at anytime and ask. He held loads of review sessions. Lots of partial credit on tests if you explain your logic. Really cared about us and let us out early if he could tell we were extremely tired. Best prof I've had. 10/10
Dr. Nodurft is a 10/10 professor and a great guy. He held review sessions often in the evenings and you could even find him as early as 7 am for extra help. His students' success was at the top of his priority list. He is easy to understand and asking questions in class is easy and encouraged. It is an ideal environment for learning
Dawson is by far the best professor I have had at A&M. He is a very nice guy and actually wants you to succeed. He explains the information well and is easily accessible outside of class (if you need clarification.) The class is 95% Exams (3 normal and a 40% final) but he has review sessions before each exam that are very helpful.
Dawson is one of THE best professors not only in the PHYS department, but all of A&M. He truly cares about you as a student and does all he can to make sure you understand his material. PHYS 207 is a hard class, but his reviews are amazing before each test. He even gives you his number so you can text him questions outside of class. Take him!!!!
By far the best professor I've ever had. You can tell that he loves physics and loves teaching. This is a very hard class, but Dawson is practically available 24/7 if you ever need help. He's also a really cool guy to talk to in general. I sincerely hope he's able to teach full-time in the future. The PHYS department needs more professors like him
I finally broke down and made an account on this site just to rate this professor. He's so enthusiastic about physics that he makes coming to class enjoyable. The class is hard but Nodurft is great at teaching the material. (Extra info: He started teaching in summer 2019, he teaches Don't Painic, and he was trained by Dr. Mason & Dr. Tatiana.)
Answers any questions asked in class, even if it is something that was covered over a week ago. Cares about whether the students truly understand the theory behind the material covered in lecture. Lectures are fast-paced so you must be prepared to not miss any lectures and to ask many questions, which he will answer in full.
Dr. Nodurft has been my favorite prof since starting at TAMU. He's available on weekends, he loves helping his students and really wants them to grasp the material and do well in his class. He cares for your grades and more importantly you. He tries to come up with fresh and easy ways to understand the material so you're not lost. 100% recommend!!
Dr. Nodruft is absolutely fantastic. His passion for what hes teaching and helping students is so evident in everything he does, and hes available practically whenever. You can tell he loves the material and wants you to succeed. The course is hard but if you want the GOAT take him ASAP, and schedule it fast, because his slots fill up quick as hell
This man... this man is hands down the greatest professor I have ever had. On the first day of class he hands out his number and tells you to text him memes. He is extremely understanding if you have something come up and can't make it to class. One of the nicest guys I have ever met. He bumped my grade by 5 points so I could pass his class. 10/10
Dr. Nodurft is by far the best professor I have had here at A&M. He absolutely loves teaching and it clearly shows every day in lecture. Offers to help on any day at any time and always makes sure we fully understand the material. He genuinely cares about about all of his students.
Dawson knows what he's talking about and you can tell that he loves teaching the subject. During his lectures, he encourages asking questions and does an awesome job answering everything. He is very helpful during office hours. His final is also very similar to Tatiana's in regard to types of questions and level of difficulty. Amazing dude overall.
Awesome dude who really cares about his students. Makes himself super available for his students. He stayed up till four am grading exams so we could get them back the next day then hosted a weekly review session at nine that night.
My literal favorite!!! Words cannot express how amazing this prof is. He goes 200% for you. He makes sure to clarify every single thing if you ask about it (even the questions that are kinda stupid/obvi but he doesn't make you feel dumb about it). Be communicative with him -- email him and he'll go above and beyond to clarify your issue.
AMAZING PROF. Dawson cares so much about his students, and is always doing the absolute most to make sure all his students understand what it being taught. Really nice and energetic guy. His passion for physics and helping his students succeed makes him one of the best profs in physics. Physics will be hard, but Dawson makes it not nearly as bad
Professor Nodurft is one of the best physics professors at TAMU. He is very good at providing students with the right tools to do well in future physics classes. This class IS difficult, so don't go in thinking it will be easy. He does make sure that every student understands each concept and there is no other professor like him.
Dawson was an AMAZING prof. He is very energetic and cares so much about his students. He always did his best to make sure all of his students were understanding the material and enjoying the class. Physics will be naturally be a tough class, but with him as my prof, it really didnt feel that bad. Definitely take him if you can
Dr Dawson is fantastic. He really tries his very best to cater to the group and make sure that no student is left behind. He is very passionate in what he does and has lots of energy in lecture. Doing class through zoom was less than ideal, but this class is going to be difficult no matter what. A real diamond in the rough.
Dawson is my favorite professor I've ever had the pleasure of being taught by. His lectures are enthusiastic and easy to follow, and you'll see an exciting in-class demo at least once a week. He puts his cell number in the syllabus if you need to contact him. His final isn't a cakewalk but is perfectly manageable. I still text him physics memes.
Dr. Nodurft is the best professor I have had at TAMU, and I am confident he will remain the best for the rest of my time here. Cares a lot about making sure students understand and will do anything he can to help. He is the definition of a great professor.
Dr. Dawson is the best professor I have ever had!! He is extremely passionate about physics, teaching, and his students. His work ethic is inspiring- he does everything and then some for his students. He is extremely accessible and ready to help. ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS when confused. He wants to know when he needs to explain more and is very helpful.
The best professor Ive had so far at TAMU! Really funny and charismatic! He will do everything in his power to help you succeed. Go to his reviews, theyre very helpful:)
Dr. Nodurft has been my favorite professor at TAMU so far! Phys 206 is tough no matter which professor you have, but Dr. Nodurft makes this class 1000x easier to understand. He cares about his students and responds to texts and emails very quickly. Very energetic & engaging lectures, even over Zoom.
Professor Dawson is amazing!! He genuinely cares about his students understanding the material. His lectures are actually interesting even through zoom. He is the best professor I have had so far! Get in his class if you can!
Dr. Nodurft is very passionate about physics and teaching his students. We had an online format which was very difficult to adjust to, especially for such an important and demanding course. Dr. Nodurft made it much easier as he always listened to us and slowed down or went back when we needed him to. Absolute gem professor that I wish I had again.
Dr. Dawson is one of the best professors at A&M. Physics for me was difficult because I had trouble conceptualizing the problems. Dr. Dawson make this class so much fun and he was super accessible for office hours and review session. I scored a 40 on my first exam and with his help I was thankful to end with a B. TAKE HIM IF POSSIBLE!
Class is really hard. Like you have to put tons of effort if you have never taken AP Physics. I somehow clutched an A with the final, which was really hard. I think he curved a bit at the end. Really genuine guy who is a good teacher. Always offering help he literally gives his phone number out for people who want to reach him.
Cares about thorough education of his students. Will fully answer relevant questions no matter how trivial, as all knowledge learned in the class serves as the foundation for the next bit of knowledge. You will have the best experience if you read ahead in the textbook, and will ultimately invest little time overall in the class if you do that.
I took prof. nodurft's phys 207 during summer 2020. prof. nodurft really cares for everyone's success in the class. He would host 2-3 review sessions before exams, doing practice problems and answering questions, sometimes for 5-7 hours on end. Overall a really great person and loved his students.
Dr. Dawson is a total legend. I took him in person over the Summer and his course was very worthwhile. The grades came entirely from the exams but paired with the recitation, there was plenty of practice. Dr. Dawson incorporates memes and other interesting topics to make his lectures entertaining for all. I HIGHLY recommend his course.
Dr. Dawson is an extraordinary professor. His lectures are very interesting. Unfortunately, I didn't do so hot in this class because it was my first truly online class, and not being in the classroom and staring at a computer screen instead doesn't do it for me. I am still glad I took his course because I learned a lot despite my grade.
Dr. Dawson is honestly not just one of the best physics professor, but probably one of the best professors in Texas A&M. This man is not a goat, but THE goat. He makes sure that everyone masters the material. He takes time out of his day to do everything that he can to help you. He's very relatable, loves memes, and keeps class very intriguing.
Dr. Dawson is an icon and a legend. I took him for PHYS 206 and 207 and he is hands down the best prof I've ever had. He is energetic, passionate and willing to go above and beyond for his students. Both classes are tough and test heavy but if you put in the effort of studying along the way, you will be in great shape for the tests.
Best professor I've ever had. You can tell he really cares about his students. Makes of one of the most difficult undergraduate courses a little more palatable.
This guy will go out of his way to teach you. He lets you text him whenever if you ever have any questions about the class. He even played among us with some students to help us destress this semester. I wish A&M had more profs like him!
Dr Nodruft is fantastic, but I am just bad at PHYS. I did all i can to passed the class so i dont have to retake it. If he was teaching a different class then i am more then happy to have him as my prof.
Dr. Dawson is the GOAT!!! Amazing demonstrations in lecture. He really cares about his students are tries hard to do a good job. Tests are common exams and relatively challenging, however I felt very prepared thanks to Dr. Dawson. Amazing professor, I recommend him 100%. Wish I could have him for all my classes. Go to in person lectures - worth it.
Dawson Nodurft is a rarity among professors. Not only is he passionate and knowledgeable about the material, but he is a student-focused teacher, and does all he can to help them succeed. He not only gives informative lectures, but also hosts INCREDIBLY HELPFUL exam reviews in addition to office hours, which sometimes last several hours
Professor Nodurft genuinely cares about your success in the class and strives to help everyone do the best they can. I'm not a fan of physics by any means but he makes the class very enjoyable and less stressful, 100% choose his class if you can.
Nodurft is an excellent professor. His research is in optics but he told us that he is a 206/7 prof because because his passion is teaching freshman-level courses. Emphasis on intuitive understanding as opposed to rote memorization. Lots of review sessions outside of lecture, and even over Zoom, he made sure to interact with us through chat. 10/10
Dr. Nodurft is literally the best professor at Texas A&M. Take him if you can. PHYS 206 is really difficult in general, but he makes it less of a beast to handle with. He even gives you his phone number to text if you have questions, along with office hours and emails. The class sometimes does lag behind a bit, but the examples from it are good.
This class is hard and Dawson knows it. He holds many review sessions outside of class and is super easy to reach out to outside of class. He genuinely wants you to do well and will go to lengths farther than other professors Ive had to make sure you do well
This class is not known to be a breeze no matter what professor, but Dr. Dawson makes it so much more bearable. He genuinely cares about the success of each one of his students and you can contact him at almost any moment. Take him if you can get a spot (not easy to get a spot in his class because he is well known for being the best physics prof)!
The greatest professor I've ever had in college. He is the actual GOAT, pay attention to the lectures and read the textbook when you don't understand something. Do practice exams to prepare for the midterms. If you do this you should be fine with professor Nodurft. Honestly an awesome professor and would 100% recommend.
Professor Dawson is hands down the best professor at A&M I've had thus far. He is truly passionate about physics and does the best job at breaking concepts down so you can easily understand what he's talking about. His class is the only one that I consistently attended this online semester and I look forward to taking 207 with him this summer!
Best Physics professor and best professor I have had at A&M. Always accessible and does whatever he can to help you pass this very difficult course. Reading the textbook and doing practice problems are important for this class, but Dr. Dawson will do everything he can to help you understand the material. And maybe enjoy physics a little bit more :)
Dr. Dawson is definitely the best professor I've had so far. Obviously cares about his students and their success, and held reviews almost weekly, with 2-3 the weeks before tests. He seems to actually like when students ask questions, even if they're "stupid" questions or something learned already. Also loves physics and gives cool demonstrations.
Best professor I have ever had. Sign up now or you will not get into any of his sections. I have never had a teacher that cared so much about his students. This class (DONTPANIC PHYS206) is all variables, no numbers, which makes it a little weird, but between extra reviews and excellent lectures, he makes it easy. (Online but even better in person)
I cannot give a better review about this professor. He is everything any level of physics student would need.
Proffessor Dawson is a really great choice , I think online school hurt him alot because he seems to really care about the students and whether or not each person is following along. At times he took really long explaining things to people and would end up only doing like 1 example per class so that was frustrating at times.
Nodurft is the best prof I have ever had. I have never like actually wanted to come to class until this one. Only tough thing was with the way the course taught the material, its all variables, no numbers at all. The variables and subscripts threw me off a little, but Nodurft just made it so manageable. Always accessible outside class. Real G
Dawson Nodurft is more of a parent than a professor. He is very caring and VERY intelligent. He is also willing to do problems over and over again for students. To simply put it, he is the best professor at Texas A&M.
If you took an AP physics class and done well, don't take this class, if you took an AP physics class and didn't do well, take this class. Simple as that. This class makes you relearn concepts to fit the way they do things, which is nice for someone who never understood them in the first place, but if you did (me) you're going to work really hard.
Without a high school physics background, I found this class to be extremely difficult. Be prepared to dedicate plenty of time to this class and preparing for the very few, hard tests that comprise nearly your entire grade. This being said, Dr. Nodurft cares SO much and held many helpful review sessions!! This class is HARD but he makes it better.
This man singlehandedly carried me through this class. The textbook is absolutely atrocious. He has the typical "Physics is all about deriving from the NATURAL LAWS OF THE WORLD" physics teacher type beat. Honestly, this class is a grind but always ask Nodurft to solve problems in lecture and attend his office hours with any questions you have.
If you want a fun class, yes take him. This class is designed for students with physics background. I find myself having a very difficult time in his class and he does not teach the materials! He is really fun but I came to this class to learn not to listen to memes and jokes. I'd rather go to someone else for better information.
Dr. Nodurft is really a great guy. He is passionate about physics and you can tell he wants all of his students to succeed. He teaches really fast paced, which was frustrating for someone like me who takes a bit longer to grasp the topics. The textbook was very hard to follow. Make sure to attend his weekly reviews as they saved my grade.
He is a great professor - he really cares about his students and wants the best for them. He is good at simplifying topics in a way that makes it understandable. However, the course being online made tests quite unpredictable, as they changed the format of them. Overall, hes an amazing professor but I felt that Dont Panic wasnt right for me.
THE best professor at TAMU. He is so nice, efficient, helpful, and fun. His lectures are never boring! He is easy to get help from as he has a whole discord dedicated to the class and getting help. One time he sang to us. A true gem. It is worth dropping all of your classes just to get into his section.
Professor Nodurft was by far the best teacher I had this semester. He held review sessions for the test sometimes twice a week and they were incredibly helpful. He is young and knows how to relate to his students and he will work with you for how ever long you need to succeed.
Barely taught actual material as he just assumed you read the book before the lecture. VERY fast paced and assumes you have a background in Physics. Besides that, he is kind and is relatable at times. Review sessions were really helpful but dont rely on them 100%. His classes pretty much got no curves at all when every other class did!
Definitely read the textbook to keep up - he goes a bit slow in class to answer everyone's questions which usually meant lecture was behind recitation material. Grades were always out VERY early - exam 1 grades were out at 2 am the night after the test. Final can replace a midterm (my avg went from 89 to 97 after final). Do the posted past exams!
Such a sweet and encouraging prof. He tends to overcomplicate problems by explaining all the theory but if that helps you learn, great. If you want someone more straightforward, take Tatiana, but both are considered the best profs for 206. Tests are almost the whole grade (final was 38%) and only a few questions each, but lots of partial credit!
Dawson is the best professor you can take. I took this class in the summer and it is very fast paced but he explained everything you need and didn't waste unnecessary time over details. He even took the time to hold reviews before each test and after learning each new chapter. He also goes over the exam to make sure you understand what you missed.
I'll say that physics will always be a subject that's difficult for me, but Dr. Nodurft truly makes an effort to make sure you understand what's being taught. He breaks down the material, provides demonstrations & examples, and answers any and all questions (regarding the material). Overall, you don't have to like physics to like this class!
Awesome professor, and extremely caring of his students. Definitely use the textbook and pay attention in class. Try and register for him as early as you can, so you can actually understand physics and hopefully do well in the class.
Dr. Dawson is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. This material is difficult, so doing the past exams and homework in the textbook is mandatory if you want a good grade. He holds review sessions often, and is really great at teaching. I had never taken a physics course (even in HS) and he taught so well that didn't matter!
Dr. Dawson was awesome. Failed the course during the spring semester with university physics, then took the don't panic course with Dawson during the spring. Huge difference and led me to an A. Amazing professor, 100% recommend.
Dropped university physics in the spring semester, this class was a complete 180. I had barely any physics knowledge, but Dawson lead me to really understand concepts deeply. He knows the material is hard and wants to help you- his reviews & office hours are awesome! The 5 week summer course was intense, but Dawson made it enjoyable. Best prof ever
Barely taught anything as he assumes you just read it and understand it. I would not recommend if you have never been good at physics. He is definitely kind and funny. Take the other kind of physics they offer as they give a lot of bonus points when taking Don't Panic Physics, you will get NO bonus points whatsoever on any test.
This professor is the best prof at TAMU. He is beyond understanding and just wants you to do the best you can. He gives you ALL the material necessary to do well on tests. He never gets mad when you ask questions. VERY UNDERSTANDING PROF. I had an appointment I couldn't miss and he gave me everything I needed to stay on track. Love this man.
Nodurft is a really great professor who cares about his students. He will spend countless hours emailing, texting, setting up meetings, and doing reviews to help you as much as possible. I struggled with physics in high school, so the class was really challenging. The only downside is that class would get behind schedule and would get stressful.
Doctor Dawson took an insanely hard class and put in a tremendous amount of effort. I spent six hours straight three days in a row working with him to understand the material. He had class, then office hours, and then a review session. I could not have asked for a more patient and understanding professor than Doctor Dawson.
All of these 5s are real. Genuinely the best professor for any physics class at A&M. The test are fair, the lectures are amazing, the homework is reasonable, and he is very thorough when documenting/recording lectures. The material is hard but he makes it easy to understand and is great and very patient if you have questions. Would take again!
I took Nodurft in the Summer of 2020 online, and he really knows how to get the students engaged with learning physics. Jokes and memes never get old. If you want to pass physics with an A, go to Dr. Dawson's class. Awesome Prof, I highly recommend him. Cheers!
Hands down the best physics professor I have ever had. He is great at explaining the concepts and encourages students to ask questions even if they are above the scope of the class. Holds iClicker questions over the homeworks weekly. A lot of really cool demonstrations. He made physics bearable :)
Really solid choice for a physics professor; no one compares. Will try to help in any way he can and keeps lectures engaging. The class is really hard and requires a lot of hours studying. The final is 38% of the grade, which is a bit stressful. My only critique is sometimes lecture would have a lot of questions and we would get slightly off pace.
Don't Panic Physics 206 and 207 are the hardest classes I have ever taken, and I would go through them again just to be taught by Dr. Dawson. Go to the weekly review sessions and practice past exams and your grade is saved. Lectures are hard to follow if you don't read the book before and the pace is very fast. I will recommend Nodurft until I die.
I reviewed for 206 but had him in person for 207. Dawson is the best professor I have ever had! He started a discord just so students could reach him outside of class, and his lectures are cool, fun, and informative. Sure the material is difficult, but he makes it so easy to understand and genuinely cares about his students. Take his class!!
Dr. Dawson is the best professor you can find for a physics class. He is so utterly passionate about the subject that you get excited about the material with him. He makes an otherwise extremely difficult class bearable and even interesting. The exams are really hard and the lectures are heavy but he will always help you keep up if you ask.
Dr. Dawson is absolutely the best professor here. He really cared about students success. He is accessible 24/7 through his discord, the SIs are great, and his weekly reviews are great practices to ensure you know the material before tests. TAKE HIM! The school should give him at least a coupon for a back massage the way he carries the department
Although an extremely difficult class, Dr. Nodurft is extremally knowledgeable and accessible outside of class. Ocasionally, he goes a little too fast. He always takes time off his own day to hold extra office hours and holds weekly review sessions. Additionally, he has a discord where he helps students 24/7. Highly recommend.
While the course itself is difficult, Dr. Nodurft's knowledge and energy make the class enjoyable to sit through. He's fun and helpful to talk to outside of class and helps answer questions on discord. Although he's a relatively new "Don't Panic" professor and goes fast and off-track at times, I would recommend taking him for physics 206.
Definitely top 2 physics professor in the department. He works really hard to spend time with students to ensure they understand material and he is a really approachable guy. An A is very possible with him and he is an excellent instructor. TAKE HIM
Dr. Dawson is an amazing physics prof. He is a good ag that knows physics and is enthusiastic about teaching it. That being said, this class is extremely difficult. Anything and everything can be on tests. There are plenty of resources that Dawson provides to get help like office hours and review sessions. Tests make up 93% of grade so study hard.
Professor Nodurft is awesome, super friendly, super fun, and an all around great guy. He has tons of energy. However, my one complaint is a part about his teaching style. He builds each subject of physics on one another (as you should), but in that process he lies to you about certain topics, and then fixes those lies later. That did not help me.
The best professor at TAMU hands down. It's a difficult class, but he teaches in a way second to none. Lecture content is very conceptual, but he provides lots of demos and online review sessions weekly. He's very compassionate and understanding. Exams (3 common exams and 1 cumulative final) are 93% of the grade in all don't panic sections, so gl.
Lives up to the hype! Easily accessible through Discord, very kind. Test reviews on Zoom every week (at least). Textbook is mandatory to do well. iClicker attendance/quizzes. 3 tests and final are ~93% of total grade. DO PRACTICE TESTS! Made a difficult subject easy to understand. Lots of demos, high energy and talks fast. Take if you can!
Take him. He knows how to present difficult physics topics in a way that's easy to grasp. The DP book is confusing, so I ended up just learning the material off his amazing lectures. I'm taking him again for phys 207, he is the most helpful, kind, and engaging prof I've had so far. Take practice tests, do problems in the book, get help when stuck.
He did a great job of explaining concepts for 206, but was very unclear for 207. He relies too much on the textbook (which isn't helpful). Very funny professor and very caring, but not very good at explaining 207 concepts. I would have taken someone else if I would have known.
Dr. Nodurft comes highly recommended by many, but I've found that those that recommend him are often highly gifted when it comes to physicsbefore ever stepping in his classroom. However, many, myself included, are NOT especially talented at STEM, and for those people, Nodurft is too fast, to demanding, and all-around confusing. Really hurt my GPA
Very good professor for a very difficult course.
I took both DP classes with Dr. Dawson. He's an absolute legend who teaches with a passion that is unrivaled. He genuinely cares about all of his students' success. He puts in the time to help you be successful. If you work hard, you will succeed and walk away with a passion for the natural world. Give this man a raise!
Dawson really, really cares about his students, but he expects SO MUCH from them. took him for 206 and 207, did well in 206 but struggled immensely in 207. very passionate, but speaks very quickly and puts a lot of emphasis on the math instead of on the concepts. not ideal for people who are not physics inclined, but a fun and caring prof
There are not enough words to describe how amazing his lectures and him as a professor are. He is always available and willing to help his students. You can clearly tell he cares and will help you succeed. He has such an intense passion for what he does that resonates with his students and makes his lectures engaging and inspiring. 10/10 recommend.
Dr Dawson is a great prof that genuinely cares for his students. The class was extremely challenging, but he made it easier to handle. His exam reviews were great for studying, and you can feel his passion for physics when he lectures. Overall, a tough class but a great prof.
I had Dr. Nodurft for 206 as well, amazing prof. Incredibly accessible outside of class, and his lectures made so much sense. They were a great complement to the textbook and prepared us well for exams. Very enthusiastic and passionate about physics, which shows.
There's not enough space to write about how incredible Professor Nodurft is. He is one of the most passionate teachers that I've ever seen. He comes to class every day with a clear eagerness to teach us and makes it easy to want to come to class. Despite this being one of the most difficult courses I've ever taken, he made me enjoy every lecture!
Dr. Dawson is an amazing choice for 206 and 207. He is extremely passionate about physics and wants to share his passion for physics with everyone. The material is tough but Dawson explains it clearly and is very willing to help you in office hours. Tests are tough but doable with practice tests and recitation videos. Take his class if you can
Dawson is simply an incredible teacher and human being who truly cares about every one of his students. This course is very intimidating to students like me with a weak HS physics background, but his lectures are incredible. My advice is to be patient with yourself: it took me until the final to finally understand and master the material-it's hard.
He is a very good presenter, his energy was enough to make our early-morning class bearable. Despite the difficult course content, Dawson did a very good job breaking it down and making it easily understandable. Plus, one lecture, he gave us a bunch of plastic balls and told us to throw them at him if he makes a mistake so we would pay attention.
Simply an incredible passionate professor. Dawson did such an amazing job breaking down complex topics and making them easy to digest. His lectures were full of fun and engaging demos that helped demonstrate more complex principles. Supplemental material like prior exams and recitation videos made exams very doable. I couldn't recommend him enough.
Amazing professor. One of the best professors in my opinion for 207, but I know that he is moving to only 206 in 2023. Had many conversations both relating and not relating to the course material. Dr. Nodurft is an outstanding lecturer and really cares about his students. That being said, the course material is very hard for 206 and 207 be prepared
Dr. Dawson is amazing. He's probably one of the best physics professors you could take. If I'm being honest, his class was probably the only reason I passed ENGR 217 because he explained the material well. He's passionate about what he does and takes time outside of class to do exam reviews which go pretty in-depth. Good choice all around!!
I don't even have to take this class, but because I had him in 206, I wanted to take him again. He is the BEST professor I have ever had. An amazing professor who cares about his students and Physics. Every class is like a comedy show. If you do the HW and go to Office Hour. You will make an A. I would recommend him for both 206 & 207.
Dr. Dawson is hands down the best professor I've ever had period. Always available to explain topics to you in office hours even if you cant make his regular time, stays after class to answer questions, and explains why stuff happens rather than just throwing equations around. 10/10 professor.
The material for this class is unnecessarily hard at A&M, but Nodurft is great and you will learn a lot from his lectures.
At A&M, Don't Panic is unnecessarily difficult and abstract. However, Nodurft always has energy and will do almost anything to make sure you walk away understanding this material. He has an unparalleled passion for this and I believe he deserves much credit and respect.
Dr. Dawson is the best professor/teacher I have had to date. 206 is a hard class, but he is compassionate and willing to help anyone who puts in the work. On test day, he answers questions all day. Really cares about teaching, and I've honestly never seen someone explain such hard concepts with so much energy and genuine passion for the material.
Great professor, amazing lecturer. Cared about us and wanted us to succeed. Was accessible outside of class and made sure students understood the material. 206 is a difficult class, but he did everything he could to prepare students for the test. Provided students with many opportunities to succeed. Great prof, would take again.
I'll get either an A or a B in the class. He is a great teacher, his lectures move pretty fast but they are all recorded so you can rewatch what you miss or don't fully understand. He is accessible outside of class and while attendance is not mandatory he does use iclicker almost daily. Dr. Dawson is very energetic and looks out for students.
SO easy to get a great grade in this class! He is so kind and willing to help students on top of having fun and engaging lectures. You can literally get 100s on all the exams if you do the previous years' common exams beforehand as "studying." Don't Panic >>>>>> University Physics
The best PHYS prof on God's Green Earth. Take this man if you want to *understand* physics, excel on tests, and enjoy your time with the physics department. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Dr Dawson has been my favorite professor at TAMU. The content and book themselves can honestly be puzzling at times, but Dr. Dawson has been extremely available through in person and zoom office hours. Do the homework because, although optional, it prepares you for the exams. He is your best chance of getting an A in PHYS 206. Also join the discord
He is great!
Although Don't Panic Physics is difficult, his passion for teaching physics really makes this course fun when you're willing to put in the work to understand the material. That includes going to his office hours! He deeply cares about other's learning and he KNOWS what he's doing! Definitely recommend him 100%! Oh yea, he is very chill and funny
Simply the best 206 prof in the valley. Cares for his students, and teaches so well. He can be a bit loud and intense, but for me it kept me engaged for the entirety of the lecture. Loves his students, and will always explain further and commands respect in the classroom. Will be taking again for 207 next semester.
Dawson is the best professor for phys206, he is super accessible out of class and is always available. He keeps the class engaged and lets us throw pencils at him if he makes a math mistake. Take him if you can!! He made learning physics really enjoyable
Mr. Nodurft was always accessible outside of class and had weekly exam reviews. He would often go over time in his 50 minute lectures but he always kept them engaging. PHYS206 is a difficult course but Mr. Nodurft broke it down and took time to explain every concept. Overall, a solid physics professor and I'd be happy to take him again.
I could tell that Dr. Nodurft cared about his students as a whole, I did not miss a single class and put in a ton of effort, but still struggled to grasp concepts and I felt like there was a lack of respect for me, from him, because of this. I would look into a different Don't Panic professor or University Physics before I took his class again.
Dr. Dawson is an extremely committed professor and just a good person. Don't Panic physics is easy, the graders are trying to give you credit on test. The test are not hard cause they ask the same questions over and over. Calculus based just makes the calculations easier and make you truly understand physics. Easy class great Professor.
He is really passionate about physics and also super accessible outside of class with dedicated review sessions before each test. Tests determine the course but he prepares you well if you're willing to put in effort to make use of his resources. Very funny and energetic, lectures are always interesting
Dr. Dawson is hands down the best professor I have had in college. I went into this class dreading it and left wanting more. Dr. Dawson cares so much about his students, he truly wants you to succeed and will go to great lengths to help out anyone in need. He provides so many resources and opportunities to get help that you can do well in his class
Dawson teaches a difficult course but his lectures are as engaging as they could possibly be for a physics lecture. He does iClicker questions in class, but most of the credit comes from the exams. These exams are 4 FRQ problems, and I highly recommend taking past common exams for practice. Dawson genuinely cares about his student's success.
Dr. Dawson is hands down the best professor at TAMU. Take him 100% if you can. Had him for 206 and 207 and loved every second of his class. He really cares about your success, will take tons of time to answer your questions and practically tells you what will be on the three exams.
Not a difficult professor but a difficult class. Would recommend over any other professor. He is extremely passionate about teaching and making sure you learn. You have got to put in the work, but it is absolutely worth it. A fantastic teacher. I cannot say enough good things.
Dawson might be the greatest teacher of all time. I was terrified of 207 going into the course, but his lectures are so good and easy to follow. I honestly never struggled with any of the concepts due to how well he explained everything. He's also a really funny guy and is very accessible outside of class if you're into that.
Dawson is great. Tests are hard, study and do the review sessions
Dawson is the greatest and most passionate professor I have ever taken. The lectures are so engaging since he does a lot of demos and is super easygoing with jokes. The exam review sessions he does are a blessing and help since the class is 93% exam-based. Only thing is the lectures can get off track from the material so we get rushed pre-exam.
Dr. Dawson is one of the best professors I have had at A&M. Physics 207 is one of the harder classes to take as an engineer and he made it understandable and interesting. He is easily accessible outside of class and cares about his students' success.
Never had a better prof, great lectures. Also, is very inclusive and makes sure the women in history get the recognition they deserve. Man like Maxwell taking all the credit.
I highly recommend taking Physics 206 and 207 with Professor Nodurft if you are taking Don't Panic. He does a great job explaining all the concepts in class and is more than willing to answer any questions you might have in the middle of lecture. He is also very engaging with the students which helps with learning the material.
Phys 207 is a very challenging class to grasp. Taking it with Nodurft made if very manageable. Lectures were very engaging. He also really cares about his students. Really easy to reach outside of class and super helpful during office hours.
With all due respect, Dawson is overrated. Although his lectures are engaging, they are difficult for students with little physics background to grasp. The lectures are tailored towards students who did AP and he goes WAY TOO FAST. I'd only recommend for confident physics students. Easy to get lost and play catch up the rest of the semester.
He is the GOAT
Honestly the best professor I have had at Texas A&M, he is so caring and wants you to do good. I didn't do very well on the first exam but I made an effort throughout the year and have an opportunity to get an A explicitly because Mr. Nodurft puts in so much time and truly cares. If you can get him, TAKE HIM.
Dr. Nodurft is one of my favorite profs at this point. He makes a lot of jokes in class and teaches using derivations. Probably the best thing is that he works hard for his students. If you go to office hours, review sessions, or just talk to him after class, he is willing to help you out. Not to mention he just seems like a good person.
One of the best professors at TAMU. He really cares about what he teaches and his students. He is very accessible outside of class and will work with you if you're struggling. 206 is not an easy class but if you go to office hours and put in the work, it isn't too bad. I would certainly recommend taking Dawson if you get the chance.
Dr. Dawson is very passionate at what he teaches. I really enjoyed every day of his lectures. You never get bored. He made me love physics, which I did not enjoy in my 10th grade in high school. Get him, and you will not go wrong.
Dr. Nodurft is probably the best professor I've had at tamu. He cares about his students and their success deeply and makes physics easy to understand. The course is very test heavy so be prepared for that but the exams are more than fair. Our class had a B average for every single one. Overall heavily recommend Dr. Nodurft!
Dr. Dawson is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is very passionate about physics and wants his students to do well, but be prepared to put in the work. I found that reading the textbook before lectures helped tremendously. Do the textbook homework. Prepare for exams as the material is taught!! Go to office hours and ask questions!!
Dr. Nodurft was a great professor. He really does want his students to succeed. Great guy. If you're taking this class, actually read the textbook and do the homework and you'll be fine.
Dr. Dawson might be my favorite professor ever. Great lectures, super open to questions all the time, and made this class way less daunting. The don't panic grading is very exam heavy, but he prepares you well if you do all the things he suggests to do in order to prepare. 100% take him if you can.
What is there to say aside from take Dr. Nodurft if you can! Dr. Nodurft can clearly articulate what would be difficult concepts to understand, and he will go out of his way to ensure that his students can learn properly. Lectures are energetic and filled with participation. I highly recommend that you take Dr. Nodurft for physics if possible!
Dont panic is test heavy. In order to prepare for this you should be reviewing past papers from Basicchis website. If you put in the time its very doable. Theres 4 questions on the exams and as long as you write work you will get partial credit. Dr Dawson is great. He's caring and inspiring.
Classes is made of up 3 4-question free response tests. However, there are a lot of ways to study. He also really cares about how well you do in the class. Take this professor at all costs.
The Goat.
10/10 I never went to a lecture and didnt enjoy what I was learning. Dawson explains the content in a way that is really clear to understand, and also hosted review sessions before exams
It's rare to have a professor, especially in such a math-centered class, that you not only understand their subject on a conceptual level, but also look forward to attending their lectures every day. Dr. Dawson truly cares about his students and wants to see everyone succeed to their best ability, and will happily assist if any need help. 100000/10
GOAT. Puts in a ton of effort to give students the opportunity to learn the material and succeed in the class. lots of review sessions, and a good lecturer. cares about students, makes a point to learn names, brings the energy
Nodurft is amazing and hilarious; he always keeps class interesting. I highly recommend for 206 or 207, knowing full well that the class is hard but he will adequately prepare you in class. Show up, do the reviews, and ask questions when you don't understand and you will succeed.
The professor is a physics superstar! Lectures are engaging, and he genuinely cares about students' success. Do the textbook work, prepare thoroughly for exams, and Unstuckstudy can be a lifesaver for study prep. It's a challenging but rewarding class - take it if you can!
I attended lectures of all the 206 Don't Panic profs, so I can compare. Great Choice: Notable ENTHUSIASM, you won't sleep in class! Good handwriting and English. Emphasis on what matters. LOTS of great sample problems, Surprisingly funny sense of humor. In-class participation quizzes are hard (and worth 5% of the grade). Some slides, not many.
I absolutely loved Dr Dawson's class! His lectures are really good, and he is very receptive to questions being asked in class. His classes are very entertaining, and he likes to bring fun demos to class. He really cares about his students, he hosts a ton of reviews and has good supplemental material. Overall great prof
Dr Nodurft is easily the best professor I've ever had. He's a great lecturer and often does demos to show real-world applications. His famous demos involve a guillotine. He genially cares for his students by holding multiple review sessions during the week and makes the class a safe space to ask questions. Only college class I loved attending.
Dawson is the best physics professor I've had up to this point. The way he communicates concepts and works out example problems in class is very clear and concise and will always take the time to fully answer questions. He records all of his lectures and out-of-class reviews and posts them to Canvas. If you're taking 206 or 207, take his class 100%
I had Dawson for both PHYS 206 and 207. He made me look forward to those classes instead of dreading/fearing them. He's genuinely an amazing person who wants to see all his students achieve their goals. Only he can make two notoriously difficult classes fun! Attendance is graded via iClicker questions but you will be sad regardless if you can't go!
Don't get me wrong, this class is HARD. However, Nodurft is a fantastic professor who cares about his students academic performance. Using his recommended study methods, I did just fine, even after failing the first exam. Another thing; he knows his students too, to Nodurft you're a name not a number.
I had Dawson for both PHYS 206 and 207, and he has truly helped me understand physics. He has great lectures and he always maintains my attention during class time. If I am struggling with a topic he goes out of the way to make sure you nail the concept. He offers review sessions almost weekly that I highly recommend taking advantage of!
Truly someone who has a passion for what they teach and wants to spread that passion to their students. Couldn't recommend him enough. Very helpful in the class discord and office hours when it came to helping understand the concepts.
Get ready to be filled up to the brim with emotions as you listen to his spine chilling lectures. His voice sounds historical. This makes me feel like im in germany. In a good way. Very inspiring and he could be a great politician/war general.
This course is just about doing practice exams as much as u can and u will do well on the exams. Make sure to watch Dawson's review videos and properly understand all the concepts as he does a very good job summarizing what is there to be learned. The lectures are decent but not that important IMO, still go cause there is 5% credit through quizzes
You know him, you love him, I'm not sure what I can add that hasn't already been said. He is an extremely good teacher and I highly recommend him to anybody. PHYS 207 can be difficult to digest but he makes these concepts easy to understand. His lectures are amazing and is very helpful and caring to students, always having time for them.
Very difficult class, great teacher. Take him if you can.
Quite literally the best professor I've encountered on campus. He knows everyone's names, will make time for any student, provides more examples and practices than you could possibly hope for, and will do everything to help you learn. He literally got a standing ovation after a regular lecture. If you fail, it was not his fault.
MAY THE LORD BLESS DR. DAWSON NODURFT AND HIS DESCENDANTS EVEN UNTO THE THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATIONS. Seriously, though, Dr. Nodurft is far and away one of the best instructors I will ever have, not only in physics, but across any subject. His lectures are informative, engaging, and you walk away feeling like you really understand the material.
Undoubtedly an amazing professor, but his lectures can be quick at times. If you get lost at any point in the lecture it's difficult to keep up with the rest. Highly accessible outside office hours. This class is tough especially if you haven't taken physics before, but it's doable. Attendance isn't mandatory but there's iClicker so go.
Definitely my favorite professor I've had while at TAMU. His lectures are great and he's always looking to help. As long as you participate, go to lectures, and do your part, you'll be fine. The class itself is challenging but if you put in the work you'll get the grade you want. He hosts weekly review sessions. You won't regret taking his class.
He does SO MUCH to prepare you. He holds Zoom review sessions over everything where you can ask him questions and he basically exam preps with everyone. Phys is a hard class but unavoidable, so just take him! Use the Recitation Videos! He lectures VERY fast so it can be nice to watch slower paced videos by Dr. Tatiana.
He genuinely wants his students to succeed. During lectures, he makes sure to answer all questions and is open to regrading questions on exams if you have a valid reason for it. He goes into depth when explaining concepts but also makes lectures extremely enjoyable for his students. Honestly the most passionate professor I've had so far.
He is the BEST professor I ever had even though I am not a physics mechanics fan. He deserves an award for being the most KINDEST, ENGAGING, FUNNY, AND CHARIZZMATIC physics prof ever. Dawson if you see this, YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS LOVE YOU!!! we value you and when i was going through rough times, you helped me pushed through the depths of 206!!!
Dr. Dawson is by far the best professor I have had at A&M. Lectures are very fast paced but if you do the work on your own you will be perfectly fine. Pay attention in lecture, attend SI sessions, watch his exam reviews, read the textbook, and just do the work and you will be perfectly fine. Best professor by far and take him.
you can't hate on the man cause he really shows his dedication to teacher with responding to emails and doing multiple zoom reviews for each exam. PHYS 206 is a objectively HARD class (unless your a physics major or just really smart) but as a professor with the sole purpose of teaching us the material he does a very good job with.
Helped me understand the one part of physics I never got down. Genuinely top 10 professors at this school off vibes alone, top 1 when it comes to how good he teaches. Office hours were very helpful too, and he's always looking for feedback. Very generous, very understanding, shoutout Nodurft
This was my first time taking physics. It started off well, but the class got harder which is expected. He lectures way too fast and he does IClicker so you have to attend. I feel like he over complicated the topics and then didn't do enough examples in class. He's really accessible out of class and is extremely helpful in office hours though!
Probably the best professor/teacher I have every had and I'm not even glazing. He cares so much about the topic and each and every one of his students. He really wants you to succeed and gives you all the necessary resources to do so. He does teach pretty fast but we were also pretty behind most of the time so beware of that.
While the class is 93% exams, he teaches the content so well that everything just makes sense. He starts with derivations so you know where each formula comes from. There isn't a single question on the exams that hasn't been gone over to an extent in class. I messed up on the 3rd midterm (61%), but the final replaces it (got a 93%). Take him!!
Caring professor who wants every student to succeed and keeps class engaging. You'll have 3 midterms and a final. Homework is from the textbook – don't skip it! Many students slacked off after the first exam, but those who stayed on top of HW did much better. Highly recommend staying consistent and completing all Hw and quizzes.
I have never met an instructor who cared so much about his students. He invests so much time to ensure that everyone understands the material and even hosts online exam review sessions outside of class and office hours where he goes over questions on previous exams. As someone who had a bad physics teacher in high school, Nodurft was a lifesaver.
Dr. Dawson was great! I was pretty bad at physics, but I still managed to pass the class thanks to him. He really cares about his students and makes sure they have the necessary resources to succeed. Make sure to pay attention to the lectures and stay on top of the homework, attend office hours if need be, and you should be able to pass just fine.
Dr. Nodurft was great! He is super funny and takes his class very seriously at the same time. He is always willing to help a student even if it means a lot more work for him. This class is incredibly difficult but if you really pay attention in class, take good notes, and DO THE HOMEWORK, you will do great.
My favorite class so far at A&M because of Professor Dawson, he's an amazing lecturer and really makes sure students understands the material. I took this class over a 5 week summer semester, so the class has lecture everyday of the week but Professor Dawson made them all great.
Amazing. Always helpful. There for you whenever you need him. Amazing lecturer. Tests are fair.
Amazing prof and truly knows the subject. Very accessible outside of class. Will be patient and understanding even if you have stupid questions. Would take again for any class.
Best professor I've had! Coming from someone who struggled in university phys 206, Dr. Dawson made it easy to understand complicated topics. His lectures were engaging and recorded on canvas. He also made an effort to know his students. It is clear that he enjoys teaching!
Really wants to make sure that his students learn and understand the material. The homework comes from the textbook, so it is required, and there will be clicker questions in class over the homework and other problems in class. Showing up to lecture and recitation really makes a difference in the exams scores, which is the majority of the grade.
Dr. Dawson is the best 207 professor. His lectures are super interesting and fun, as he brings many real-world examples of the concepts we learn into the class. The material is understandable if you put in the effort (worksheets, practice tests, review sessions), but that's a given for any class. Take him if you want to enjoy learning physics,.
Pros: VERY good professor, easy to understand, knowledgeable Cons: Pushes back against disability accommodation requests frequently, intermittent emotional outbursts, passive-aggressive, terrible pacing of lectures, goes over the allotted lecture time Dr. Nordurft would be perfect if he had more interpersonal and emotional regulation skills.
Dr. Dawson is, in my opinion, the best professor I've had so far. His lectures were very full of energy, entertaining, and informative. He does lots of examples in class that are useful for tests. His review lectures in the evenings before tests are also very helpful. Love Dr. Dawson, he is amazing, try to take him if you can!
Dawson's care for his students truly stands out, He once said he couldn't sleep bc he kept thinking about us studying for a test. He's an engaging lecturer with great demos that make concepts interesting. The only downside is that he goes over time every lecture and talks extremely fast, but lectures are posted online for review.
Best professor I have ever had. He is so caring and his lectures are so engaging that I never wanted to miss class. Prepared us SO well for every test. I could tell he cared when we the class had a low test average on Exam 3 and he seemed genuinely sad but worked twice as hard to make sure everyone cam back stronger. literal GOAT.
One of the best professors ive ever had. 207 is a hard subject and you still need to put in A LOT of effort but Professor Dawson makes this class achievable. I would recommend attending every class although not mandatory. He is funny and understanding. Be sure to attend his very class (before review) bc he gives one of best lectures ever. TAKE HIM.
I enjoyed his lectures and probably would have enjoyed speaking to him outside of class. He had the best test scores last semester, and I think taking Dr. Nodurft for don't panic is definitely the right move.
A common critique is that Nodurft rushes lectures; however, he uploads the lecture recordings and hosts weekly review sessions which go over the material in a slower, in-depth manner. By revisiting lecture material, attending review sessions to ask questions, practicing old exams, and studying ahead, the midterms are very fair (as was his final).
W Prof. His lectures are really entertaining and funny with cool demos. The exams are going to be hard, especially if you did 206 at CC. Got an F on exam 1, since I wasn't used to the format, but locked in and got an A to replace it. His online review sessions are literally THE KEY to success, they cover everything that will be on the exam.
I absolutely believe that he made me enjoy physics. 207 was rated as one of the hardest classes, but I truly enjoyed the course with Dawson despite having no background in e&m. His lectures are hilarious, and his office hours are the best. I love his demos in class, and I love how he organized his course with recaps before class and exam reviews.
