seems like a very approachable and nice guy overall...lectures are usually hit or miss in terms of interest...but test and exam material is fairly straight forward and easy if u study...
gud prof n approachable
he is one of the reasons i switched my major to psychology. he is an amazing professor who makes lectures enjoyable to attend and material easy to understand.
He's an excellent prof. All his lect. are interesting, outstanding and illustrious. The prof is smart, knows what he is teaching and is very clear and coherent in his lectures. His tests are exceptionally fair. He made psych profoundly interesting.
A GREAAAAAAAAAT prof!
Dax is awesome. He loves what he does and it shines through in his lectures. If you get the chance to take a class with him - DO IT!! you won't be disappointed!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME prof!! Got me interested in psyc to the point at which i picked it up as a major... and I've never even met him in person, but I guess he'd be used to such compliments
he's greatttt
Excellent Proff.. I love the way he teaches..
Dax is amazing, his classes are so intresting and cares so much about each and every student. Take any chance you get to take a class with him, hes the bessssssssttttt
love his lectures.. the only 2 hour lec that doesn't make me want to strangle myself during the lecs

Dax is awesome. His lectures are very easy to follow, and he can relate the subject mater so that anyone can understand it.
I can't say enough great things about this guy. His lectures are really very well constructed, his elaborations are great. Intro psych can be boring but Dax does a great job. His test do require you to have a fair understanding of the concepts, and gives both MP and short answer q's. Bright, funny, and a little intimidating, thats Dax.
Took Dax's course 5 years ago when he first started out. Very clear, very organized, very easy to understand. But, I felt like I was being spoon-fed and the course didnt require thinking outside the scope of the course material.
my favourite class because his lectures are interesting and always relates psych to your life. you get the hang of things after the first MC and short answer test because all the tests are the same kind. it's nice you get to drop a test mark. haven't finished the course yet but the lab test has been the hardest. read the textbook before lectures!
Urbszat is the shiznit! Misleadinly intimidating but actually a really nice and healpful guy. I feel like I could have any problem in life and he'd be willing to help me out. His lectures were beyond interesting, especially loved the guest lecturers.
A rare combination of teaching tallent, intelligence and passion. One of the only two or three good profs I've had at UTM.
I think im the only one who does not think he is an "excellent" prof...hes good but not excellent...i can always predict what he's going to say because I read the textbook before class andhe repeats exactly whats in the textbook...honestly if you have a textbook you dont need to go to his lectures...u can still get a good mark...
I hate psych, but Prof Urbsat keeps me from yawning. hes a really good prof
Nice guy, good prof, but his tests are massive hard, makes me feel like a moron - always come out with below average grade.
hes so smart and an amazing teacher
This prof is amazing! I wish I had him this year! The best prof ever!
Great Prof, knows show to present material, encourages memorization methods. Very pushy with using academics skill center. Multiple tests provided to help your grade and doesnt count the lowest test. Overall great prof! Great course!
Amazing prof who is great at keeping you interested. His passion for psych is clearly shown in his lectures. He cares about his students a lot. Also, the tests are really not as bad as some people make them out to be.
excellent prof, shares passion, good guy
nice guy
Great Prof. knows how to keep his students' attention. Cares about his students...smiles when remebering sumthin from his own experiences as a 'Daddy'....over all great guy. with good lactures
He's an amazing prof! I didn't really like his lectures in PSY100 but he's the only reasons I go to class now. Very interesting to listen to.
He was an awesome prof. He was the ONLY reason that I went to psy100. Hes great. His lectures can be a bit boring at times, but you get feeling that he actually cares about his students, the millions of us that there are. not a psych major, but still liked the course, even though its HARD and has lots of reading.
1) hes hot. 2) he knows what hes talking about 3)hes not a jerk 4) class is interesting 5) really great professor overall...
Such a good prof! Loved him! Clear, fair, enthusiastic, interesting, intelligent, openminded, helpful(very),etc ... u'd be blessed to have him!!
He is an awesome prof, very very enthusiastic, knows what he's talking about. The lecture notes u take are just interesting info that u dont usually gather from other professors during a lec.tests are straightforward. he taught forensics psych very well. one of the best prof at utm, in PSYCH department
He knew what he was talking about.... BUT he was really arrogant. He kept treating us like misbehaving children. However, very nice man if approached personally. Also emphasized the [few] different details in the current textbook in his tests... a pain for us cheapos with used-books. T_T
BEST PROF EVER and not to bad on the eyes!!! :)
I agree with the other post how he can treat us like kids, if we laugh about one thing for a sec he will just be like, if you cant behave we wont talk about it anymore, i mean where is his sense of humor! some people make it sound like he's the best prof in the world but i think he's just OK, all his tests are word for word from the textbook.
Great teacher.
An absolutely sensational prof. and man. In a word, outstanding.
lovely, very lovely indeed, tests...sometimes too straight forward, read and u have the mark...which makes class averages (rather low) completly NOT understandable!!, yes, kids are dumb here :p
The best professor I've ever had thus far.
He is the most incredible, inspirational man to ever walk the planet. He's a great professor, a great person, and damn, he's a fine musician!
Mostly good prof, cares about students.
READ the book and you get a decent grade. Helpful and caring prof. Material take or leave, depends on personal interest and pertinence to major. (Goofed on previous rating and it wouldn't let me scroll back)!
You can really tell he loves what he does. I really enjoyed his lectures and watching him made my day! The lecture tests were really easy. The labs and textbook tests were hard since you have to know percentages like 90% of rapes are by people close to you (its not hard if you have last years tests). He's really down to earth!
Dax is a solid professor with expert knowledge and takes the time to involve himself in assuring his students are all properly assisted
Teaches more or less the exact material in the textbook. READ the textbook. ATTEND the labs, material from the labs always find it's way onto the tests. Pay attention the color of his suit in the first lecture. He'll ask you later just for fun ;)
yummy
I love this teacher, fun and funny and his lectures are really interesting! work isn't hard if you read the textbook
great prof, but he really talks down to us and is big on behaviour. he set up a competition between the different classes on classroom etiquette... not cool. other than that he is pretty good. I like his use of slides, it really helps.
Good prof. Knows what he's talking about and how to get students' interest during lectures. Love the examples and random bits of information he sometimes gives. Lots of reading in the textbook though.
The most amazing person ever.He takes his job seriously and makes every effort to help students. He goes above and beyond the call of duty and does everything he can to help his students excel. If you're struggling, see him and he can help you with anything!
One of the best professors at U of T.
I can't *really* fault him in terms of the ratemyprofessor criteria- but I did not like him. He was uninteresting, (in my opinion) a bit full of himself, and talked down to the students. I was incredibly bored and frustrated.
Has a nice presence and is very nice and enjoyable. Although class is kinda tough, reading lecture notes, preparing them, and practising past papers help a lot. Good prof though
Best prof I've had at UTM. Funny and interesting. Only took psy100 to fulfill that science credit, but he's the reason I'm now majoring in psych.
Best Prof I've ever had! he's the reason I'm majoring in psych
Good prof
Really cool and interesting prof, easy course.
very good lecturer commanding high authority. Is very sensitive to disruptions and maintains relative discipline in lectures. I really learned a great deal about myself, and many skills learned here can be applied to increase academic performance. You MUST read the text each week. Each read takes 2-3hr, falling behind in readin will be detrimental!
Really interesting course, he made the information very clear!
Interesting course
Amazing prof! Made the course very interesting and cared about the comprehension of his students. Tests were fair, nothing was on them that wasn't taught and assignments were graded fairly. Best lecturer I ever had, it was a pleasure attending his class. If only all Psychology professors were like that.
Awesomeeee prof!!
I love this professor. I truly feel his passion and dedication for teaching. He knows what he's talking about, and he explains it in a way that sticks with me. He doesn't just teach, he somehow makes it a personal experience for him and his students. Most importantly, he respects his students' abilities and time. He's the best!
awesome
Lecture notes useful for short answer test
Amazing professor, explains everything with great examples, very humble and easy to approach. Didn't get all the guest lecturers in PSY344 but that wasn't his fault, the ones we did get were amazing. Tests are really easy, get past tests because he repeats a lot of it.
You can get the 1st CDN edition of the txtbk and still ace on the tests (it's cheaper too!). Get the past lab, lecture, and textbook tests and study them! Attending lectures is optional (you can get an A with self-study), but Dax explain concepts thoroughly. Don't go to lectures if you're going to talk- he'll point it out and wait for you to stop.
hes sooo nice. his tests are crazy hard esp the lab ones with jeff graham but he takes the time to explain fundamental concepts in a really easy way esp if u visit him in office hrs. vvery approachable. love him.
All I can say is WOW. Before, I was planning to be an English major, but now I am a Psychology specialist. I think I would feel remorse if I continued on with English. Thank God I took Psych100. That course made me psychotic, but very good overall.
Dax is my super hero, love him. :)
He's so cute! Reminds me of a teddy bear. Note his suit/tie colour in every class... he'll ask during one of the lectures and will reveal a few short answer test questions if anyone gets it right!
Great prof & a great lecturer. Tests were easy if you had the past tests. GET PAST TESTS! This will help you out so much for the short answer questions. Textbook chapters were hell to read but it makes the lecture a lot easier to understand if you read the corresponding chapter before the lecture. This course will definitely make you think.
Amazing prof. Makes teaching very interesting and interactive and uses tons of examples. Makes concepts so clear that they will stay in your memory for a long time. make sure u read the chapters before class. u don't have to follow SQ3R which he emphasizes throughout the year. Great prof overall :)
Extremely large classroom sizes about 500+ students in this popular first year course ensure that you will need to work hard in order to come out on top and be noticed. The professor has to deal with many inquiries, and there is little if any room for one on one time.If you stay on top of things and put in the work you can ensure yourself a 90%+.
He's a GREAT LECTURER! I always look forward to his lectures! Especially his off to Buffalo shuffle. Alot of material to learn and tests are not that easy. Lots of work but he makes it fun!
The man actually makes it worthwhile to come to class! The anecdotes from his personal life are hilarious, and he often has wise advice to give to his students. Psy100 was definitely not easy, but if you work hard and attend Dax's lectures, you'll do fine.
The best prof I've ever had!! He's great and he wants you to succeed. He cares about his students and he's always willing to lend you a hand, even if he has to take time out of his day to do it. He's really smart and totally knows what he's talking about. Go Dax!
One of my favorite proffs. He is very interesting. The only class i can fully pay attention to. He knows his stuff and he cares a lot for his students.
good lecturer but you get the feeling he's a robot. you can tell he's done the lecture a thousand times before and hasn't changed it up in years, not even the jokes. seems bored with life. the course content is great, tests are pretty easy and he is crystal clear about expectations, gives lots of study tips.
Had him for PSY100+220. Fantastic! Lectures are interesting and test questions are repeated from past tests. Definitions/key terms are always tested. Study smart for the exam because he won't repeat everything! Textbook is an easy read. 4.0 acheivable in Dax's courses with effort.
He is an amazing prof! I hate psy, but still go to his classes. If you take notes you will do well.
Hands down best professor a first year may want. Knows his stuff, and is fun and enthusiastic. Makes you fall in love with the subject.
Best Professor. Extremely Inspirational.
Best Professor to ever exist
He is a great professor. I learned a lot from him. Labs are worthless and will drop your mark if you don't do well. Though don't get duped into being in psychology. psychology is not as easy as he makes it look like. Just wait for it, psychology will get harder as you advance. He is a great prof but don't expect an 'A' from him.
The lectures are great and the prof is amazing. The lab component of psy100 is pretty useless/dumb but whatever. Like any other first year course, work hard and you'll get a good mark.
He's an amazing prof, really good at what he does and wants everyone to excel. PAST TESTS are a must to do well as the material is hard.
GREAT
Amazing Prof! He uses lots of exampls from daily life, make the lecture fun and easy to understand. I've learnt a lots from this class and able to explain and discuss with my friends. Highly recommended!!
Great prof! I can listen to him all day long...:)
Honestly, he's such an amazing prof. I look up to him very much and want to be a psychologist just like him :)
Fantastic prof. Makes it engaging. Makes it simple. Textbook easy reading compared to so many other textbooks. Read the textbook (or skim it), go to class and take notes. LOOK AT PAST TESTS.
LOVED HIM. Never had such a great learning experience. Won't spoon feed you, that's for sure. You can just breeze by. You need to work, need to have genuine interest. What's so great?= He creates the environ to do that. He makes you get excited bout class, makes you want work hard. I know he reads these, so let it be known. Dr.Dax you are awesome.
It's Dax! Enuf said.
Dax is one of the best prof's I've had :) his classes are always interesting, I always looked forward to them. Kind, approachable and sweet. He's awesome!
I loved his class! He was so clear and he made it so much fun. Learned a lot in his class.
having graduated 7 years ago with a double major in psych, Dr. Dax is the only professor I remember who truly made an impact in my scholastic endeavours in the field of psychology. very jealous to find out that he is now teaching psy100. i had to suffer and plow through dull lectures and mundane readings.
One of the best teachers I've ever had in my whole educational life. He provides great example. Lecs are done in a way that aren't boring and keep your interest.
Amazing
Great prof! Made classes interesting, very easy to follow and gives great examples
AMAZING professor. VERY interesting & educational lectures, his tests are fair, & you can tell he really knows & loves his psychology. Highly recommend taking his class.
He is alright. The material itself can be interesting, and he does attempt to make it fun for us to learn. He uses past tests (questions may be exact or VERY SIMILAR), so I highly recommend getting those...it's in circulation for many years.
Best prof at UTM. I wish he taught more courses. His lectures are actually interesting. Easy to talk too and approachable.
I've taken PSY100, PSY220, PSY328, and PSY344 with Dax. I've gotten A's in all of his classes. The secret? PAST TESTS. He always reuses short answer questions! You have to read the textbook for multiple choice, though. All of his courses are very enjoyable (328 & 344 are practically the same course). Clear, fair, easy-going... highly recommend him.
Don't rely on past tests too much because sometimes the questions are different. I got an A+ in this course but you have to study hard. The tests are fair but make sure you memorize all the little details in the text. Dax was very helpful and friendly when I went to him for help
Best professor ever! He's the reason many of us are in Psychology today.. Love his hand's on teaching style.. and he's very honest in his approach!
Dax is an amazing prof. He is very approachable and is the most easiest person you can talk to. I loved going to class, never once regretted it. He is the reason i want to pursue psychology further. I dont know why other proff's are not like him like the way he teaches the materials is very interesting. Dax your an amazing person and thank you!
Really knows his stuff and has a passion for psychology. Not the easiest prof in the world, but the tests are fair and he gives you the info you need to be prepared for them. All and all he is an excellent proffessor
Great Professor. I really recommend attending his lectures. Its not mandatory as he does put the slides up online, but it is really helpful if you do. Make sure to review past tests, and keep up with readings.. Great Prof!!!!!!
BEST PROF FOR FIRST YEAR! VERY WELCOMING AND HELPFUL! ALWAYS THE CLASS I LOOKED FORWARD TO!
Dax is probably the best professor I've had in my 5 years of university. He's very passionate about what he teaches and it shows. Attending his lectures are an absolute treat. The tests are fair and the material is very interesting, though Dax makes it even more interesting. He's the reason I'm pursuing a career in Psychology.
Dax is a great prof. He always elaborates on the material provided in lectures. His lectures are fun to attend. He seems unapproachable at first but he's really nice. You HAVE to read the textbook to do well and go over past tests too.
He is O.K. He does have a passion for what he does, he gets the class to laugh a bit and participate here and there. His tests are difficult, he is not the best prof i ever had though, sometimes he can be rude and talk down to you. His lectures can get boring, the exam is a extremely hard!
An OK professor. Though, you learn more from the textbook than the actual lectures. Also, he no longer recycles past tests anymore. The last two tests were completely new.
awesome proff and is very helpful :)
Lectures are informative and interesting. Tests are somewhat difficult, be prepared to read and take LOTS of notes. MC Exam was quite challenging, make sure to do past tests and exam whilst studying! Great professor though. Dax is funny and engaging; you'll want to go to this lecture every week and you'll leave every class more knowledgeable.
The professor is amazing. I think he talks about real life experiences while connecting them to subject matter which helps us better understand the content and also remember it better! His ideas concerning moral and ethical issues is just another thing I like about this professor, mostly because i think along the same lines/ agree with him.
He's a really good professor. He uses clear examples and his tests are fair. If you read everything in the textbook and study the lecture slides you will do fine. Dont fall behind the textbook chapters are long.! Overall very good prof :)
Love him! Best prof ever and always! Was very excited when I found out I will be in his class. Makes 3 hours seem like no time at all
The best prof, lectures are so interesting, 2 hours goes by wayy too fast.
Excellent prof! Lectures were always so interesting and he has great study tips if you go talk to him during his office hours. Do the readings and go to lectures and you will do well on this course.
Had him for PSY100 last year and loved him even more this year! he makes 3 hours in class feel like nothing and ALWAYS use examples. Really nice guy and genuinely cares about others, and funny too. Hope to have more courses with him in the future!
It's DAX! He's a brilliant prof. Had him for PSY100 and was very lucky to have him again this year. He somehow manages to have you paying complete attention throughout the 3 hours; and its never boring. Very interesting subject matter and extremely engaging Prof. Would love to take more classes with him!
Great professor. Had him for PSY100 and PSY200; both very interesting courses. Texts are a bit difficult, but fair. Covers everything he tests and gives students benefit of the doubt. Best PSY professor at UTM!
MY favourite prof. hands down
Everything that I expected from a university professor. Top notch prof.
Awesome prof! Explains very well and makes the material interesting. Tests are fair, but only if you take notes and attend class. Can seem condescending when you ask him questions but overall great guy.
Proffesor Dax is an incredible proffesor!! He somehow makes you interested in every single second in his 3 hrs lecture! Make sure you read the text book and you will do fine.
Good Prof..Take his class and watch your McDonotin levels increase!
Professor Urbszat is funny and engaging most times, but sometimes he's absolutely arrogant and offensive. Confidence is great for a lecturer to have, but at times he bordered cocky, which really takes away from his interesting lecture material. Otherwise a good professor, albeit a demanding course. Success is easily achieved by studying well.
Dax is just great! Lots of examples and personal anecdotes made the class so much more interesting and understandable. Made social psych so amazing. Tests are fairly easy, no tricks, make sure to study the lecture notes
LOVE HIM! makes even the most boring lectures fly by. yes, he can be a bit arrogant and sarcastic at times but that's what makes him so great. psy220 was a great course def made me think...highly recommend.
Dax is hilarious! His lectures were always a source of entertainment, even though they were early in the morning. Unlike other professors, he doesn't just put textbook stuff on slides and read his slides. He makes psychology come to life! Class really gets you thinking. Persuasion, attraction, evolution were absolutely amazing
u roc
VERY nice and entertaining prof, but WAY too much material, especially for a first year course. This class made me scared to take a psych course ever again. Don't recommend unless you plan to take psych or you want a low GPA..
Dax is a pretty good prof. I took his course in first year since I was interested in being a psychology major. He tends to explain concepts really well and he uses real life examples to make it easy to study, but the material we go through is quite a lot! Don't take this course for fun; the readings and slides take a lot of time to digest!
Only prof. who keeps me entertained for the full 3 hours. Lecture and textbook material are usually very similar. Do the readings/look over notes and everything is very straight forward!
I think he is a great teacher, but his TA's are extremely hard! You think you're going to do well and then you get a mark that is far from well, more like death! I wish the TA's would change, he's a good teacher though!
He was okay. Everyone loves him which is weird to me. He was not a bad professor but talked so much about himself. Although he states that he "encourages" lots of questions and engagement he does not answer many questions and interrupts before students can finish (so he can continue talking!). Didn't study a lot, attended all lectures and got 87.
Prof. Urbszat is a very entertaining professor. However, attendance is not mandatory for this course as the tests are mainly composed of past/previous test questions. Also the exam solely consists of material from the textbook. He however displays overconfidence in himself, but that is never a bad thing. Overall he was a good prof.
Dax is a pretty good prof. He really knows his stuff and is actually pretty funny s well. He can be overconfident and condescending from time to time but overall is organized and has a good style of lecturing with many personal anecdotes and things to help you remember.
He's honestly one of the best profs ever! Made me love psychology even more! Make sure you have past test especially the short answers because they are repeated!
Dax was a great prof i enjoyed his lectures they are truly the kind you go to to just sit in and listen to what he's saying because its genuinely interesting and not to hastily take notes. You don't need to take impressive notes during lectures or even attend some of them to do well as long as you do your readings and review the past tests and exam
HE WAS GREAT
Absolutely amazing professor. He made all material easy to relate to.
Great prof, but not a recommended course if you're only taking it as an elective.
Interesting lectures with lots of examples. Some lectures didn't match the textbook so studying was painful. His SA questions asked for things he mentioned in class but wasn't part of the slides so note-taking is key. Clearer instructions for the paper (ex. rubric) would have been nice.
favourite professor very intelligent
dax was amazing
Prof: ok; cares about students but he's cocky+condescending. Lectures: clear+useful. ATTEND ALL LECTURES+READ TEXTBOOK. Take good notes during lectures bc questions about lecs are on tests. Textbook: loaded with information worthy of being tested+some material in lec don't match with tb-ex. he gives more real life examples- so studying is hard.
He's a good professor, however comes across as a bit cockyarrogant, but I feel like he'd be a genuinely nice person one-on-one. His lectures are okay, I feel that his PowerPoints need to be more stimulating to captivate his students rather than just black text on a white background.
Dax gives great examples while he teaches he refers back to real life examples to help you learn. He is a good prof when it comes to teaching but he is LAZY he repeats tests, lecture slides and everything in between. He is also the most arrogant, self conceited, narcissistic bigot so watch out
Dax has been a great influence for me in first year. He loves what he does and that's inspiring. His lectures, though long, are not boring given you're actually interested in the course. However, a clear warning, do not take this course if you are not ready to read a lot. Also, this course by no means is easy, you just need to be persistent.
his lectures sometimes feel like they have been going on for hours.... but you do learn something in the end.
looking back his class was probably the most interesting, but if i didnt have the past tests (especially for the short answer) i would do so bad. i read the textbook front to back and i dont know how people passed if they didnt. THIS IS NOT AN ELECTIVE OR BIRD COURSE. make very detailed notes on textbook and his lecture slides
This really should not be a Y course. He is a pretty awesome lecturer however. Tests were kind of hard, but if you keep up with the reading you should be fine
Prof Dax is a very inspirational. He really enjoys and loves psychology which makes the lectures very interesting. Even though the lectures are 2 hours long, I never get bored and listen to him with amazement. Requires a lot of work; 9 term tests, 2 lab tests, 1 lab report, and a final exam. For each term test, you have to read approx 150 pages!!!
Dax is my all time favourite psych prof! I had him for three classes during my time at UTM. He's very clear, thorough and makes lectures very interesting. You just listen to him for hours; he's very persuasive. Take detailed notes and read and youre guaranteed a 4.0
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Completely unreasonable with his m/c tests, do not believe any other comments about him. He is highly unrealistic, conceited and wants to see his students fail. Do NOT take this course if you don't need it.
I really enjoy his lectures. A lot of readings tho.
I memorized the first 5 pages of the success package and would do well on his tests, generally 20+/30. Exam was difficult because it was 180 MC based solely on textbook. I would definitely take this and other courses by the prof because he is pretty awesome
Lecture parts of test not based on lecture - get a success package, too much reading(50-60 pgs/week) boring lectures, very self-important, very knowledgeable about psychology,
Get your hands on past tests and you'll get an A for sure. Prof Dax repeats all previous short answer questions but you must read the textbook chapters so you can pass the multiple choice section. A lot of tests; once every month (total of 6). Labs are reasonable, lab tests as well. Overall hi lectures are interesting and examples are always clear
Can't pass without doing readings, not an easy class. but its interesting
By far, the hardest course I've taken so far at university. The multiple choice questions and lab test questions are unreasonable. You really have to put everything into this class if you want to get a good grade.
Amazing lecturer. Concepts, and examples of them, are very easy to understand. Tests are extremely easy. They are half MC and half short answer. MC is taken straight from the textbook and SA are taken straight from the lectures. Buy past tests if you can because he res-uses them word for word.
Amazing Prof! Definitely my favorite so far. He is so clear and really knowledgeable makes lectures extremely interesting.
I took a psychology class in my first year of university at UTM. He is very enthusiastic about teaching psychology. He likes to get off topic, but not a big deal. He's very informative, and likes to help students who ask for help. If you just sit there and don't do anything, you'll definitely fail. I didn't like him, he was a little too fast paced.
He was a tough grader but a lot of his tests were things you could get from past students. In theory its easy to study but when it gets down to it there is a lot to understand and memorize. His lectures are really amazing though and i find him a little inspirational AT TIMES. Sometimes i forget to take notes during his lectures bc its that engaging
Literally one of the best professors at UTM. Thank god Dax teaches first year! He's entertaining and full of examples. Tests are 30 marks MC (on textbook) and 30 SA ( lecture) so paying attention in class and keeping up with readings will save you PLUS looking at past test banks! I wrote and rewrote answers from SA banks to practice and it paid off
DO YOUR READINGS!!!! Oh and the success package helps too.
Pretty good prof in terms of his passion towards psychology. But, I found his lectures aren't really important for tests, the best way is to do the readings and past tests.
Super passionate about psychology, lectures won't get you an A though (you should still go though because they're incredible). Past tests and reading the chapter q's will ensure an A.
Professor Dax is absolutely AMAZING!!! His lectures are the best and always full of laughter, and even though i had 2 hour lectures with him i never got bored! His tests are also fairly easy, if you do your readings and take his advice on how to study for psych!
The BEST professor. I look forward to taking his courses and they are consistently my favourite every year. He does not over-complicate things and his tests are fair based on lectures and textbooks. I have recommended his courses many times and will continue to do so.
Dax does a good job of making psychology interesting. read the chapter before his lecture, pay attention during lecture, and you should fly through psy100
Best prof i've had. He makes a 2 hr lecture interesting as possible, he's funny and relatable. In order to get a good grade in this coure is to study past midterms.
First year is hard. I went from being an A to a C student. I was so discouraged in all of my classes except for psych. Daxs lectures are engaging, funny, & even serious at times. Each lec is really a life lesson on understanding ourselves & others. Attend class, even if youre only taking it for the SCI credit. Thank you for inspiring me Dax!
Lectures are pointless didnt even show up for the second semester. Memorize past tests a day before and youre good. Lab paper is equally as easy, my lab partner even tried to screw me over, still got a 90+ without even really trying finished it in a day lmao. TLDR: long and pointless labs&lectures, just memorize for ez grade
Dax is a really good professor lecture-wise. He gets his points across eloquently and is helpful when approached. His lectures can be a bit repetitive and long but he makes sure everyone understands by the end of the lecture with extra examples.
A really good prof, he is good at explaining stuff and he makes you want to learn more but content of this course is really hard, so it's hard to get a good grade.
My favourite 1st year prof. Lectures are interesting and he engages students despite the huge class size. For psy100, definitely get the success package (past tests) to study, it will guarantee a pass at least. Tests were 75% textbook, 25% lectures. Don't skip them though, he gives a much deeper understanding of textbook and prepares you for test.
amazing prof!!! best prof I had at u of t.
Really good prof. If you're in psy100 make sure you go to the FSGs that they offer, it'll really help you for the short answer portion on all of the term tests. Dax makes the class interesting and is passionate about what psychology and education in general, best prof i've had so far.
Dax has always been one of my favourites profs since I was in his PSY100 class 2 years ago, I try to find the courses he teaches and enroll into them as soon as possible. PSY344 was incredible! He talks a lot about the topics with plenty of examples to help you understand. He really inspired me to be a Psych Prof as well!
Very funny professor so 2 hours lectures were actually engaging and fun. If you look up the PSY100 Mega Success Package on FB you will get a bunch of past MC and SA easy 4.0. I recommend still attending lectures and reading (+taking notes from textbook) for a meaningful understanding of the course. Like always, put in effort great results!
rambles on but has interesting lectures. Read the textbook and you're pretty much set
He's remarkable guy. He clearly cares about his craft, and he doesn't sugar coat anything. Take this course if you're looking to push yourself with the best kind of encouragement. Also the course material is really interesting.
Not bad. He does give great lectures, however, the tests recall the most specific information from the textbook. He's all about the importance of teaching methods that correlate with actually learning the information, but the multiple choice tests really are just memorization, so that's that. Lecture tests are easy if you get the success package.
This was easily my favourite course and prof in my first year at UTM. Very knowledgeable and passionate about course material and makes 2 hour lectures go by so fast. Pay attention in lectures, read the textbook VERY thoroughly, and download the success package (free online) and tests will be pretty easy! This is a course I recommend EVERYONE takes
Really awesome and engaging lectures. Use the free success package for the short answers and you'll do good. Multiple choice portion is all textbook which means you have to know every detail from the chapter so make sure to read.
get your hands on the success pkg with past questions and you're SET. Lectures are a good way to understand the general concepts within the textbook but there will be questions on the weird bits of the book that nobody ever reads (super textbook heavy). Funny guy in class and i would take another class, but he's intimidating for me to approach
Honestly, I didn't go to class at all and just memorized the success package and read the textbook, and I 4.0'd the course. Dax is alright, albeit a bit condescending and conceited. The short answers on the tests are taken directly from the success package. MC is a bit harder - you actually have to read the textbook for that.
His lectures are pretty long and tend to get boring sometimes but he tries to make them as interesting as possible. If you study you will do well in the class. Reading heavy though.
Dax is a great prof who genuinely cares about students' success. Don't be intimidated to talk to him after class/during breaks, because he is very open to questions. Even with the success package, I'd still advise doing readings and studying lectures to get the most out of the course and enjoy lectures. As Dax says, you are only cheating yourself!
easiest class ever
He is an amazing professor !! I'm so glad that I took this course with him
Dax is definitely one of the best profs out there, anyone would be lucky to have him. His lectures are awesome cause they're rarely boring and he shares really interesting stories. For the most part, the content's pretty intriguing, but get ready to do the (lengthy) chapter readings as the class is test heavy. Overall, super awesome class.
a true legend, his texts are based on lecs and the textbook and are fair, and his analogies and stories really help you understand and remember concepts. hope to have him again soon!
Dax is very intimidating and will make you feel bad about your life choices in lecture. Although, his lectures are engaging, with many stories and jokes. Tests are a breeze if you have the success package, as he reuses questions from previous years over and over, you don't even have to attend lectures of read if you have it. Good prof overall
amazing prof. his slides are short and to the point and he tells interesting stories. he gives additional information during lecture so you should show up to the lectures.
Looking back, Dr. Dax inspired me through his genuineness and passion for the field of Psychology.
Dax is the reason I continued with psychology. Hes great at keeping the class engaged and tells great stories that really help you understand/remember the content of the lectures. My favourite prof at UTM!
Don't take this course if you aren't majoring in psych (or related). Lectures are interesting, but the course is not worth it. Lots of textbook readings. Sure, the success package will make it easier, but the course is time-consuming and a waste of time.
really makes the lecture entertaining and enjoyable. has a wide range of knowledge and ability to add on besides course material and makes the lectures very engaging. makes me want to change program in order to take his class.
I took PSY100 as an elective, worst choice ever. I would recommend against taking this course unless it relates to your major. Lots of reading, boring labs. Professor is nice, course is not.
Dax is an amazing prof, the beginning of the course is gonna drag cause its all sciency but after that, its good. Get the success package by searching on the utmreddit and you're literally good to go. Most of the final exam is from this large 1000 page doc but if you study the textbook, you'd be good to go. you need to ve very specific for lab test
LOTS of reading. I think we read about 16 or 17 textbook chapters in total, about 30-40 pages per chapter. There were 6 lecture/textbook tests and 2 lab tests, all of which you would fail if you didnt read the textbook or if you skipped lectures and labs. Professor Urbszat gave very interesting lectures though.
He is a good lecturer however you have to go to class because he tends to elaborate a lot and talk about stories based on his slides. The tests are fair as the multiple choice comes from the readings, and the short answer is only from his lectures. To score well on lab tests you have to take good notes during all labs.
One of the best profs I've ever had, he made concepts so understandable. I was kept interested in what he had to say during class, even though lectures were 2hrs long. Can tell he really loves his job which made students love psych too. Before this course, I didn't enjoy psych at all BUT now I enjoy it so much that I'm enrolled in a psych major!
By far my fav prof of first year. He was funny, kind, and made lectures interesting. Didn't open the textbook once so don't buy it. Just find the proper success package and you'll do amazing.
He makes lectures really interesting with stories, which makes it easier to remember information. Lecture was never boring. Tbh, get the success package and practice old questions and you're good to go
Really good lectures. Makes you understand the material in lectures throughout interaction with students and interesting tasks, always provides great examples and stays on topic. Excellent orator. Practicals are also super cool and interesting. TAs are a blessing, care about you and your understanding of the topic. Hard but worth it.
His course was easy but Dax was such a bad professor. His lectures consisted of reciting lines directly from the textbook so there was no point in coming to class. If you ever go to his office hours he will disrespect you and talk down to you.
He's a super cool guy. Tests are super book heavy so make sure to study A TON but his class is so worth it. Get a success package and make sure to study the vocab and past tests.
Great professor with engaging lectures. However, the course is very test-heavy and it is quite difficult to do well on their tests which really affects the mark you get in the course.
He's one of the few amazing profs that I had. Amazing lecturer very engaging. I always looked forward to the lectures. If I had to do it all over again, I would've done a specialist or a major in forensic psychology.
PSY100 is not an easy course, you need to work hard to get your grade, and there is a lot of reading. However, taking PSY100 with Dax makes EVERY future psychology course at UTM so much easier because he literally covers every topic there is in an introductory psych course. Get ready to read and pay attention in class, but it's worth it in the end.
Dax is a truly awful prof but the class is an easy A. He uses a test bank for all of his multiple choice and short answer test so we got 90s on all his tests. He says incredibly misogynistic things in lecture and makes everything he talks about uncomfortably sexual. Even with the good grade I regret taking this class
I was lucky enough to have Professor Dax for my PSY100 course which was my first ever psychology course and one that I will always remember. Dax is an amazing person inside and out and his classes were always so engaging and the knowledge and passion he had while lecturing was fascinating. Definitely recommend taking it!
Dax is a fun professor and you can tell he's very intelligent. He gives a lot of interesting examples in lecture and made me laugh out loud so many times, though he can sound kinda condescending at times. The course itself is really interesting but not easy, so if you don't have to take it I wouldn't recommend. Lots of reading 30 pgs/week
He was a pretty decent prof. I read the entire textbook so I found his lectures to be somewhat long and dull since he was barely touching the surface of the material in the textbook. He's really fair, tests are well balanced, plenty of opportunities to get a good mark considering how many assignments and tests there are and how little they're worth
Prof. Dax is an amazing teacher and teaches very well. Get ready for speed runs because sometimes he would rush to talk about the lesson but the lectures are very engaging. The course is test-heavy so prepare yourself for a lot of textbook readings. Don't procrastinate on the readings. I would recommend this course and would take it again!
dax is one of utm's legends. an engaging and upfront prof. u will learn to examine 2 inquiries: how to quesiton the world around u and whether u should still be in the course. while u will learn many things, i'm with every1 else; for ur own sanity, don't take this course if u don't have to. go on youtube or something if u want to learn psych lol
I did not attend any of his live lectures BUT you should if you want to do well on the SA on his exams. MC of his exams r straight from the text, so make sure to make chapter notes. Overall, he is clear on what he wants for his assessments. Very fair dude and very fair marking. Got blessed with an A+ on the final worth 100% for me.
He's a good professor, but he really dropped the ball when lectures went online during covid. Sometimes he would just read straight from the textbook although we were required to read it ourselves before lecture. He's also pretty offensive when things don't align with his own beliefs, ex. towards religion and cultural beliefs.
The coolest professor I've ever had. Make sure you study the textbook MC.
The tests required a lot of attention to details of the lecture but if you study the textbook and slides you should be good. They were the most enjoyable lectures I had this year so I would recommend him just for that experience.
I guess every superhero need his theme music! No one man should have all that power. Bow in the presence of (his) greatness.
Cool guy, hes really quirky lol. He can be condescending, not the most approachable but overall he's so passionate about psyc. ASK HIM ABOUT YOUR DREAMS. he literally became a prof at utm because he practiced in his lucid dreams. it's WILD. tests are based on textbooks so read it. No assignments just labs and textbooks.
I don't like reading textbook, but I would take his course again because I love his humor.
Dax is a funny guy and his lectures are okay, as far as him being a first-year prof it is a bit hard, you really need to read your syllabus if you want to do good in the class
man is rude and literally never gets through the lecture deck in time. spent the first day of class calling us "liars and frauds and psycopaths." grade is entirely ur lab (easy 100) and the tests (not so easy). goodluck
He is actually great im super glad im taking his course for a full year. the tests are as easy as your level of studying , study effectively & you WILL do well.
Some of what Dax talked about was very interesting (I could really see his passion when it came to the topic of dreams). However, sometimes he would say casually misogynistic things and a lot of his lecture somehow redirected towards sex (even when the topic had nothing to do with it). He was also condescending towards students asking questions.
he's definitely condescending but i'm convinced he's on a higher level of consciousness. the tests were hard but as long as you dedicate enough time to studying, Read the textbook (all the multiple choice Is based on the textbook), and take rlly good notes during lectures and labs you'll be fine. He's a great teacher and very knowledgeable.
Don't like this class! He seems a bit rude, and passive aggressive. When you ask questions he comes off a bit condescending. Dont like the vibe! test are extremely hard!!! readings are a lot, but just skim through them. you will do fine if you attend lectures and do your readings!
Great prof
People believe that professor Dax is condescending which is simply untrue. He's merely stating factual information that some understandably, don't want to hear otherwise. He's a good lecturer and tests are moderately difficult. Each chapter in the textbook is quite lengthy and all tests have multiple-choice textbook content questions.
Absolute legend
I agree that Prof. Dax is not condescending. The stuff he says are factual that makes sense and some people may not like it because they know it is true. I have taken 3 courses with him so far and I would give a 6/5 if I could! His lectures are clear and concise with PLENTY examples. For the MCQ part of his tests, read the textbook thoroughly
Dax is by far the BEST prof I've had in uni. His lectures are always genuinely intriguing and interesting. He's very knowledgeable and does his best to share his knowledge with us. He responds very fast to emails and is understanding as well. I would recommend others to take this course 100% especially with Dax.
Amazing professor and very funny
Dax was amazing for this course! When it comes to the midterm and exam, its extremely fair and if you study WELL, it's fairly straightforward (no trick questions!). The MCQ comes from the textbook, and the SA comes from the lectures so take good notes. He gives amazing examples and is honest about controversial topics. One of the best Psych profs
This guy is just not it. He really made me feel terrible when I answered a VAGUE question wrong. Not great. Easy class if you pay attention, but this guy talks like this to alot of the students in this class. The only good thing was the dreams unit. He seemed really passionate about that.
Dr. Ubrszat is a great professor.
Some people like him, some dislike him, I, however, have no opinion about him personally. You can definitely pass this course by simply reading the textbook. His lectures consist of him giving extra examples about the info that you should have read before attending the lec.
bad communication and included content on the test which was from the textbook, but not in the assigned chapters.
I received one of my highest marks in this class despite not spending a great amount of time studying and working on the course. He seemed very knowledgeable of his field but often showed contempt towards students asking questions. There was also a great number of interruptions during lectures as he entertained many ridiculous "what if" questions.
If you know your stuff you will be fine. Study harder if you want a higher grade!
The lectures are engaging and fun, Professor Dax gives a lot of good examples during his lectures. However, the TAs do not reply to emails and make several mistakes in their marking causing unnecessary stress for students. Every single test mark has some technical error, ironic that a psych class is stressing out its students. Do Better!
Prof Urbszat is my favourite professor ever. His lectures are engaging, interesting and the highlight of my week. I cannot recommend this man enough and I can't wait to take more of his courses. His tests are fair and based off the textbook (which he wrote!) and also from his lectures. Get ready to want to major in psychology!
Urbszat is very interesting but not very clear on what to review for testing, tests are very hard.
Almost impossible to learn all the information for the test. Went into every test feeling unprepared even though I would study all day and night for the tests and although I was getting 70s and 80s in all my other classes, I could never get a good mark on the tests and I barley passed this class.
Every person I've talked to about this professor says they either hate him or love him, personally I really liked him. His class is really textbook-heavy, and even though lectures are not mandatory I would recommend going. He tends to go on tangents during lectures, but they're usually related to the topics and make the class more interesting.
He is funny, and knowledgeable. But his grading criteria for the 30% paper was non-existent. No rubrics provided and no clear guidelines. The only good thing about that assignment is that it was due on the last day of class. So you have 4 months to work on it. He is REALLY highly opinionated and states them as if they were facts. Cringe
Prof Dax is the absolute best prof at UTM, EASILY! his lectures are very engaging and you can tell he has a passion for psychology. also, he is very accommodating, I emailed him so many times and he never let me down and answered faster that the psychology department. THIS MAN DESERVES A RAISE!
I enjoyed Dax's lectures, as he made them as interesting as possible. Overall, the course was interesting. Definitely read and take notes of the chapters to help with tests and the final exam.
Bad at communication. Doesnt care about students like at all. Dont take his class unless you have to.
He was okay. He tells a lot of stories, keeps the class awake. However, it was very difficult to keep up with the amount of information that he says during lectures. The tests are always challenging, especially the long answers, and a lot of us had difficulty because means he doesn't highlight concepts that are important or need to be remembered.
PSY100 is intellectually challenging. Dr. Urbszat teaches clearly and detailedly. Careful revisions will be enough on tests, as tests only cover all material in class, so attendance and reading are helpful. The final has only 160 simple questions. Reviewing a detailed note covering all relevant things and contents on each slide will be enough.
This class made my GPA drop so low, I did not get into my desired program. Only because of this class. its extremely hard to keep up with the readings and lectures, on top of the lab assignments and notes, on top of other classes. I took this class in first year and it damaged my confidence because it was so challenging and ruin my first year.
Dax hardly teaches in lectures and uses them instead to put his political opinions on display. He insists the lectures are important, and then only spends maybe 20 minutes of the two hour lecture on actual course content. Read the textbook and slides on your own time and you'll be fine.
Prof. Urbszat is an amazing professor and inspirational man. I would attend his lectures even if I was not in his class. He wrote the textbook used in the PSY100 course and it is an amazing, straight forward and detailed textbook that makes psychology more fun (GET THE TEXTBOOK). Overall amazing. He makes psychology genuinely interesting.
He's an amazing prof with a lot of knowledge. Great courses with very interesting content. I'd take it anytime again!
IT DOESN'T TAKE 2 HOURS TO GO OVER 12 SLIDES. blank point period.
Tough graders but funny in lectures. Though strays away from the topic and starts talking about his children for the next 40 minutes. At this point, I know more about his kids than psychology. But he's hilarious and surprisingly opinionated, which I admire.
I was interested in psychology before taking this class. Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience. During lectures, he tends to go off-topic and there's an immense amount of reading. His tests have both a lecture section and a textbook section that are always marked extremely difficult. Do not take this class. It will compromise your GPA.
Rude
People either really like him or hate him -- he rambles a lot and his teaching style is...unique and interesting. There have been numerous times when he skims over the last remaining slides because there was not enough time since he went on side tangents. The TAs are stingy about marking the short answer tests.
Prof Urbszat's lectures are engaging and entertaining. He uses the same talking points as most Gen X dads, so many of his hot takes are controversial but unsurprising. He does stray from the material while lecturing, so it's important to be on top of textbook work as well as attend every lecture. I can promise you won't be bored.
Great teacher, Fun lectures, ALOT of yap, TA's mark aggressively, but overall a fun first year course. Not a bird course, a lot of reading and overlap with lecture and textbool. Overall, fun prof!
Dax's lectures are quite fun as he's very engaged and passionate about what he's teaching. He definitely has a big personality which some people like, and some don't. READ THE TEXTBOOK (and memorize it) is the best advice I could give. Lectures are important, but he mostly covers things that were in the textbook anyways.
Average for the class ended up being a C+. Even though the lectures are very interesting, having 3 things determine your final grade is rough. Would not take a class of his again.
dax is very polarizing. some love him, some really don't. he gets through lecture content pretty slowly because he goes on a lot of tangents (not always relevant to course material lol). his classes involve lots of reading and memorization, but that's just psych in general. he's funny, unapologetic, and passionate. but def not everyone's vibe.
some people hate him some people love him, I think he was good. It's just important to remember that in his lectures you are not going to be tested on what he says but what is on the slide so he will very often go on long tangents have nothing to do with what will be on the test so just study the slides and read the textbook and you will be fine
I took his law course in the summer and enjoyed it WAY more than intro to psych. Gave us the full three hours for tests. Really passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. His lectures were hilarious and really interesting. I actually enjoyed his demonstrations and "rants". To do well on the tests, make sure you can EXPLAIN all slide content.
Dax is an admirable orator and lecturer. His lectures are captivating, including his rants. He is nice and patient with the students. Get ready to read and take notes from the textbook as he will ask you about the most minute details. Make sure to memorize each lecture slide AND things that are not on the slide but elaborated in class.
Prof Dax is an engaging lecturer, but his classes require a lot of work. The textbook is essential, and the TAs grade tough. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for practice quizzes - definitely recommend it alongside the free course materials.
Great prof. Content is super heavy, especially because tests are based on both mc and sa.
Talks super fast. Wouldn't say he's a bad professor though. Knows his stuff very well, but content is extremely heavy.
Knows how teach, but so so heavy on material. Felt harder than 2nd year psych courses I took later on.
If grades didn't matter, I would just love to listen & learn from him, but at the end of the day, you're being tested on his lecture and textbook content. Course is textbook heavy. Prof Dax barely puts information on his slides, & can get side-tracked (which is entertaining but not relevant). Second year courses were better. Super nice one-on-one.
By far the most CONFUSING and HEAVY course I have ever taken. This guy enjoys that we hate it too, you can tell. Feels like he's playing mind games with us and has fun. The only thing I learned here was how to memorise 60 pages of a book every 4 weeks
Overall course content was good but Dax made it a little harder to like. He made quite a lot weird comments during lectures and also the tests were marked very unfair sometimes, TAs were rough. He's okay but talks a lot unnecessarily and I wouldn't take any of his courses again as an elective , only if necessary.
Dax is a great teacher in terms of material and anecdotes to help with memorization, but his tests are tough. He starts off the semester by telling everyone that the class average will be very low and tends to come off as quite discouraging. He and his lectures are very odd and hilarious. Make sure to read the textbook, or you won't pass.
this guy forgets what hes supposed to be teaching... there hasn't been a single lecture where he stayed on topic and actually gave relevant information. hes also lowk weird like his teaching style is often uncomfortable especially when his comments always feel suggestive.
Opinionated without research to back his claims. Relies heavily on evolutionary psychology theories that have not been well supported. Does not use any research past the 2000s. Highly critical without substance. 3 hours of lectures for 12 slides that he does not get through. Slides copy pasted from previous years.
To be honest, no professor can be compared to Dax. His tests are tricky and he tends to include questions about the list specific things mentioned in the textbook and lectures. He also had a tendency to go off topic during lectures and will get weirdly passionate about the most random things.
One of the best professors at this university. Extremely engaging and entertaining lectures, with a unique style of humor. Lots of information to digest from the textbook, but if you're interested in the content, everything is 100% doable. What you'll learn is actually relevant to your day-to-day life, which makes the course very intriguing.
There were lectures where I peed myself laughing and some where I fell asleep. His side stories and detours are entertaining, and he teaches psychology with such passion that it engages you for two hours. HOWEVER, to succeed in this course you MUST read the damn textbook. The test grading system can be annoying and differ from student to student.
Very interesting and science based perspective. It's not a difficult class but can get boring at times. Hardest but most important part is to READ THE TEXTBOOK. Half your mark depends on it.
A lot of people I know who are also in the class find him a little strange and while that is true I believe he is a phenomenal instructor. It is very clear that he is passionate about the subject and helping us grow as students. He is also hilarious. His textbook is amazing. Absolutely love his style of teaching.
His lectures are general overviews of textbook and test content. He goes off-topic frequently, and is only considered "amazing" by others on Reddit because he's bluntly honest. Additionally, you have to buy the textbook HE published if you want to do well, which is no wonder cause he makes money from that. Also, he has very inappropriate questions.
Dr. Dax is extremely smart and qualified. Honestly, its impressive how educated he is. His lectures feel as though he's reading off of a script in his head, that he's repeated numerous times. It feels artificial and planned. Never fails to mention 53x in almost every lecture, and every textbook chapter. Organized class though!
If you need a science credit, take something else. Anything else. Get ready for your self esteem to plummet dramatically as you are told you are stupid every week. There are exams every three weeks, which doesn't sound too bad, until you see the most obscure questions related to concepts that were mentioned ONCE out of the 120 pages you studied.
Attendance isn't mandatory they say, until a questions shows up on the test asking about problems solved in a lecture three weeks ago where 30 minutes of it was spent having technology issues and talking about his own personal experiences with his son and Thomas the Train. I hate this class.
I don't get the other ratings, he's a weirdo but he's the best prof ever. Tests are every 3 chapters and is STRAIGHT from the textbook. Hes funny and engaging in his lectures, but its basically summarizing the textbook and drilling a few key points in. Hes overall a great teacher, super easy tests and lectures are fun to listen to but NOT mandatory
