She's an outstanding teacher. Prof. Boster teaches directly by her syllabus. Her powerpoints are simple and clear. The quizes and tests are easy if you pay attention during her lectures. If you read the text and pay attention, then the class will be extremely easy.
If you like "death by powerpoint" this is the class for you. Only had 2 10 question quizzes leading up to the 250point midterm. Unless you can pay attention to 6hrs of powerpoint a week I would avoid this class. Did not go over essays until they were due, so if you did not write it in the format she wants, you will lose points on your work.
She is an amazing teacher who is very helpful. Her lectures are fun and interesting. I would recommend taking her over other humanities professors because her tests are easier than the other teacher when I compared them to others students in the art lecture. On the downside, I was 4 pts away from an A and she would not let me do and extra cred.
Great teacher. History is boring but Boster lets you know what she wants you to learn. She spells out for you what she wants on her papers and gives you a study guide for mid term and final. This class takes work. But i will be taking 152 with her. In the lecture hall we had 4 teachers and about 5 people wish they had taken her for 151.She is cool.
When I started the class I felt a little overwhelmed by the amount of work we would need for this class. But she made it really simple. She tells you exactly what you need to know and what she wants in the papers. I will be taking 151 with her.
Professor Boster is really knowledgeable. She is interested in all students if they show interest. The test/quizzes are pretty simple. Go to class and take the notes!
Great teacher! Just go to class, read the text, and pay attention during her powerpoints/lectures. She is very understanding and will respect you if you respect her (Just like everyone else on the planet) I recommend her to everyone who needs to take this course!!!
This teacher is amazing! definitely one of the best lecturers and funniest teachers i have ever had. She is the best teacher to take for this course.
I had her for 151, and although she did make the class interesting and I liked the class, she is a nit-picky grader. Nothing is good enough it seems like. I am not sure how people thinks he is reasonable and understanding. I had a friend pass away during the time of an exam, and she would not let me reschedule to retake it so I had to drop it.
She is a great instructor for the material. She shows a deep interest for her students. A little dry on the way she teaches though. It is almost all powerpoint and it can be difficult to keep paying attention. She does expect you to do a lot of work for this class. A lot of reading and writing.
She is Very direct, and to the point. She is helpful, and very organized. History is boring, yet she made it bearable. She is a great professor.
Dr. Boster is amazing. she makes the lectures as enjoyable as possible,,she really cares and tries to help any way she can. he tests and quizzes and not that hard if you study well and attend the lectures. she is an easy grader when it comes to the essays. highly recommended.
Attendance is not mandatory but very helpful. It is a portion of your participation grade. It is a hard class but She tells you everything she wants. She will even look over your drafts for the 2 papers for her class. She encourages questions and makes sure you understand the concepts. she does not make you learn dates!
She is the best! She keeps history interesting, and the class isn't that hard as long as you pay attention in class and study, AND be sure to read the primary resources she assigns they are essential! I want her for my HIST 1152 class too!
She is the best professor ever. She makes history class interesting and fun. She does go through the material fast but that is because we have a lot of material to go through, she is willing to slow down if you have and questions. Easy A class if you have some interest in history and can follow directions. The papers and exams in class are easy.
Dr. Boster is a very tough teacher. She makes you learn the material. Her exams are extremely hard as they are written and she gives you a lot of key terms to learn, for one exam I had over 80 to learn. She does care about you learning the material though and will help you if needed. She responds to emails very efficiently as well.
I felt that she did a wonderful job during her lectures bringing the people to life. She was very inclined in the knowledge of the field and teaching came easy to her. Make sure that you meet her deadlines as where she will not budge but the good thing is she doesn't swamp you with work but there is alot of reading. D.Boster is an excellant choice.
I took 1151 Web this semester with no interest. Boster is thorough on her instructions and power points. Every week was the same thing- read two chapters, take a quiz. Only two discussion boards (2-3 para) and two short papers. A ton of reading. Exams are difficult to study for. Teacher is responsive and knowledgeable.
Dr. Boster was quick with responses and offered detailed powerpoints. The test was hard to study for, but I am an example that it can be done. Time management was the key to studying.
Great Prof! She is very academic and tough but fair. You really need to read and study hard for the exams. She is very knowledgeable and a good lecturer (uses powerpoint heavily!) Not an easy class, but you will definitely learn a lot.
Make sure to show up to every class, take lots of notes, and asks questions. Instructor is very good about answering questions during lecture. She's very passionate about subject and has a way of making the material interesting. Tests are all essay but study guides are given which tells exactly what will be on test. No surprises. Highly recommend.
Great teacher knows her stuff and actually enjoys talking about it and making it interesting, it is a college class so don't think you can cost by you do have to study and read up on material.
Very nice instructor, easy and quick grader, good feedback. Do the assignments, and get a good grade.
In this class if you are taking it online, you have to take both your midterm and final at the testing center. She makes you write a sentence or two each week talking about a subject or answering a question on blackboard. Her exams are easy if you study (make sure to study the map).
Boster is an awesome professor! She is a author (writes books about history of course) but she makes everything crystal clear! Her slides are on blackboard which makes everything easy to write notes on. She gives out quizzes that are fairly simple, less than 10 questions. Extra credit are on quizzes. She shows videos and lot of pictures. RECOMMEND!
I am not usually someone that enjoys history, however Dr. Boster made the lectures so interesting! I left every lecture feeling like I had actually learned something and as long as I paid attention I didn't usually have to study too hard for the quizzes. She does grade papers and quizzes kinda tough, but the exams are straight forward.
Dea Boster is one of the most wonderful professors I have had! As long as you attend class and pay attention to lectures you will do great in her class! She gives opportunities to succeed in class such as dropping the lowest quiz score and dropping the lowest paper score. Her lectures are fun and interesting! She is a genuinely good person!
She was awesome! One of my favorite professors thus far. Not a huge history fan, but she made the lectures very enjoyable and the information easy to learn.
Dr. Boster is the best history prof you'll ever have. Her lectures are interesting and captivating she really cares about you, the subject, and your success. You have multiple papers based on the reading and a non cumulative final. She is easily the best professor I've ever had and needs to be the head of the dept she is that awesome
Very clear cut with deadlines and specific with what she wants for papers & tests. Always extra credit on quizzes, tests, midterm, final. Textbook and reading is a must if you want to do well though. Very knowledgeable and relatable.
She is very interesting teacher but her tests and quizzes are tough and very detailed. She does give bonus on her quizzes but good luck on knowing the answers.
Professor Boster is awesome! I skim the readings and still do really well on the quizzes and tests. The study guides are literally exactly what the exam is going to be so make sure to do those!!! Kind of a tough grader on papers but not too bad. Totally recommend!
cool and helpful teacehr
Professor Boster is an amazing and very entertaining Teacher. She runs a tight ship, but is more then fair. She has alot of material to cover so don't miss much class time. I enjoy her humor and her wit. Excellent Instructor, good Luck and Enjoy the ride.
Enjoyed the material & her lectures. Tho I would hav prefered tests based mor on the lectures & less on the reading, she is forced to cover a lot of material. If u luv history, this class wont b 2 hard, but there can be a lot of reading, which u should do. Always extra credit on tests, tho they can b tough. In general, nice, funny, & very helpful.
Great Professor, gives clear guidelines on what will take place throughout the course during the year. Easy to find the flow of how this class will operate on a weekly basis. She's extremely passionate about the subject and is a great lecturer.
Professor Boster is by far one of the best professors. She gives great lectures with very manageable homework assignments. Very outgoing and makes learning History fun. Very fair grader. Highly recommend her!
Good history professor. Lectures are much more exciting rather than boring. Prepare to write reading responses about every week. They arent hard though and she gives great feedback. For the record book is needed for homework, other book is optional. I got along without it. Overall, good teacher. Good class.
One of my favorite history professors of all time. She is caring , she will take time to explain something and even converse with you about a topic if you were more interested in it. Is quick to recommend other things that might pique your interest. A great history professor.
I loved her perspective on the class, she truly has great knowledge on U.S. history. Lectures were always interesting even in a three hour setting.
There are assignments due weekly and three total papers need to be written. This course depends on the textbook, so sometimes it is hard to understand what you're writing about. The exams were fairly difficult as it was mostly all writing responses. She did give great feedback, however; on the papers I was never sure what I needed to fix.
She always walked into the class with a good attitude, even if she had a cold. But her lectures were always interesting and I enjoyed hearing them and learning more. She is very generous with the work load, and the way she works it, allows you to catch up if you are behind. Use the books! It helps. And outlines for the exams help too! Good teacher!
She has an excellent understanding of the content that she's teaching, she has passion for the material, the assignments are interesting . . . take her class. You won't regret it.
I do not dread going to her class but get ready to read. This class is non-stop reading. Professor Boster has clear expectations but makes you work for your grade. She is very caring as well. Replies to your emails almost right away, and helps you out when you are in need of more explanation
I have had problems with many history teachers at CSCC in the past. Dea has a real passion for her studies and even wrote a book. Everything you need to know is in the syllabus and weekly assignments are graded in a timely fashion. Exams are probably the most difficult part of the class but everything you need is in the notes or in the book. DO IT!
The two exams are mostly essay-based (midterm/final), forming the majority of your grade, so if you mess one up, you're done. It's a lot of writing, essays & weekly responses, plus up to three papers. Overall, I wouldn't take her again, but she's a great teacher & a kind person, who is an awesome, witty lecturer. Lots of work for only 3 credits.
Amazing teacher, clearly passionate about what she does and therefore makes every lecture fun and looking forward to every week. Doesn't lose your interest and a great person overall. I used to hate history but I've learned to love it because of her.
One of the better professors I have had. Willing to answer questions, makes sure everyone understands, so nice, funny, and loves her job. Watch out for the reading papers that are due (13 available but only 5 counted). Other than that 3 papers (only 2 counted), a midterm and final (not comprehensive). Would recommend!
Amazing professor that knows her material very well. Total of 2 exams 2 papers and 5 reading responses. Her slides do not have enough information and so you HAVE to come to class and take notes if you're willing to pass. She utilizes the American Yawp and so you really do not need to purchase the book. Take her class!
Dea knows her stuff and is very passionate about history, makes every lecture interesting and engages well with the whole class. My A is definitely because of what a great professor she is. You don't have to buy the textbook either; everything is free online and she links it in the syllabus. Just do your weekly reading and you're golden
I loved this class so much! She is not a tough grader, and her lectures are fun to sit through. I would 100% recommend to take any of her classes!
Professor Dea was the best teacher I have had thus far. In lectures she does a great job at making the material clear to understand! I actually looked forward to attending her class. Also she adds fun facts, if you do your work and actually try youll be fine!
Shes so sweet and kind. One of the better professors at Columbus state. If you need to take a history class here i highly recommend taking one that she is teaching. You wont regret it! She very good with lectures and homework and papers are super easy.
I find American history to be dreadfully boring, but Dr Boster managed to hold my attention throughout the semester. There are 3 big papers and 10 small papers, but you only have to do 2 and 5 (respectively) of them, and their due dates are peppered throughout the semester. She's very personable and pretty flexible, too. A great professor!
Dea Boster was a fantastic professor whose class was very interesting. She was fun and engaging and had a clear grading criteria. There are weekly reading response that are relatively easy as long as youve been keeping up with the material.
Dea is a great lecturer who clearly has a passion for and high mastery in her subjects. Her class is a lot of reading and writing, but all the homework assignments and papers are meticulously designed to ensure that you acquire an adequate understanding of the material and make for great preparation leading up to the exams. Gives detailed feedback.
I took the course for fun, and never regretted it for a moment. Shes an expert in the subject and has a true passion for medical history with tons of recommendations for anything you might want to know more about. If youre going into the medical field this class is a fantastic choice.
Boster makes lecture and note taking really fun and interactive. It is clear she has a huge appreciation for the content and as long as you come to class, take notes, and pay attention you will pass!
Profesor Boster really knows what she is talking about. You can see she has a real passion for history. If you don't like history, you probably won't like her classes as they are very analytical. If you do though - you will love this class. She makes you think, makes you do weekly readings, and has some tests.
Dea is one of the best lecturers I've ever had the pleasure to hear speak. I have taken three of her courses and enjoyed them all.
Dr. Boster cares that you actually grasp the essential concepts from her course. The information she teaches is also very interesting to begin with! Honestly, I have avoided taking history for college credit until this point, and I am so glad I chose Dr. Boster as a teacher. The class consists of primarily reading and writing.
She was very helpful and the only reason I didnt have an A was because I forgot to turn some assignments in. Lets you turn in late work to a certain date. Wish all professors were like her.
This class is honestly an easy A. Professor Brophy is an amazing professor. Shes a easy grader and only grades on a few things. I highly recommend her.
Judges historical figures by inapplicable modern day standards and ignores that, as part of American and all human history, standards evolve over time.
Professor Boster is extremely knowledgeable and provides very detailed feedback for almost every single assignment. Reading is required, but nothing illogical, it is for your understanding of the period for the weekly participation activities and reading responses. Her grading is easy but has to be earned. Effort and quality matter.
Prof Boster sets the standard for other CSCC professors. First, she isn't a tough grader and still provides good feedback that's short and gets to the point. You will have to read a little and watch her weekly lectures, but it's nothing too bad. She remains mostly objective on the curriculum, something most history professors can't say.
Dr. Boster has weekly readings through the free textbook about 40 minutes weekly. Boster assigns weekly participation activities, with videos an average of 40 minutes per week. There are reading responses and a mid-term and final project in the class. Read the project manifesto. No late work; except on the mid-term and final project. *Fast Response
Prof. Boster is an amazing instructor and is super nice and caring. I'm not even half way through her class, but I needed to share what an awesome teacher she is. The class itself is pretty easy if you do the work (which isn't a lot). I bit of reading and writing, but still worth it because I'm actually learning. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Boster is very knowledgeable about her topic.Weekly assignments on units. There are no exams, because she doesn't need you to remember facts, but rather know that the events occurred, why they occurred, and what there lasting affects are on our society/world. Two easy major papers (6-8 Pages) on topics studied. Lots of time to receive feedback.
she is so nice and friendly. I love her energy and the way her class goes. If information is tough, she will take as long as you want breaking it down for you to better understand. the class has taken me by Suprise at how interesting it was and how much i actually learned
Professor Boster has been amazing. She explains everything so well and is always willing to help and gives plenty of outside hours to access her if needed. She is fun and keeps the lectures exciting.
Professor Boster is very knowledgeable and passionate about history. Her energy makes class very enjoyable. Her class consists of weekly reading responses and 2 formal writing projects. She isn't a harsh grade at all and you'll do great as long as you make an effort.
Dr Boster gives such good insight on what really happened in American history without giving a bias point of view. Her blackboard set up is the easiest to navigate. One last thing that I really appreciated was there were no quizzes/tests, just two papers and a maximum of 5 reading responses in the whole semester. I really enjoyed this class.
Dea is a great professor -- she knows what she is talking about and is passionate. There are weekly readings, some reading responses, participation points, and two papers - one midterm, one final.
The classwork was pretty easy, and Dea is really cool. I personally don't think I'd take another class with her only because it was... too easy. There wasn't much stimulation for me, and I felt like I didn't learn that much. She is great for beginning history courses, and though she grades tough, the workload is pretty light.
She doesn't give tests if you're someone who's bad at those. There however was two papers instead of a midterm and final. She's really easy going and keeps the class interested, which is nice given it's a history class. She provides links to all the books and papers she wants you to read at no cost. She also answers emails quickly.
Prof Boster is a great and very understanding teacher. Her lectures are for the most part very interesting, at least enough to hold attention. She usually doesn't do tests or quizzes, all we had to do was a short midterm paper and a longer final paper. Would reccommend!
Such a good professor and makes history interesting. There are participation points worth a lot, so don't skip class often. Straight forward with what is expected and gives you the exam to prep before. Highly recommend taking it with her!
She is one of the best professors that I've ever had. Had her for Hist through 1877 and she teaches through lectures so attendance is a must if you want to understand the material. Homework is written only, but she only grades your highest scores. She gives study guides for the exams and you'll get an A if you understand them. Overall great!
Professor uses a textbook but she also provides one. Amazing lecturing
She was always so easy to talk to and so understanding. Everything on her course was extremely organized and easy to navigate. If you have the opportunity to schedule HIST1151 you absolutely should!!!
probably one of the best professors i've had, and she really loves what she teaches. huge recommend!
I took this class over the summer semester. Dea was very kind and helpful. I would love to take more history classes under her. Highly recommend.
Such an incredible professor. You will never find a better lecture at CSCC. Prof is so passionate about her work that it's contagious! She is very knowledgeable and caring. Do the readings and reach out to her when you need help.
Professor Boster was great! Her lectures were captivating and she provided great feedback on written assignments. Most of the class is written assignments but her grading criteria is clear and provides a rubric. If you follow the rubric, you will do well on the assignments. She provides a good study guide as well to prepare! I learned a lot!
Dr. Dea is great! She's super easy to listen to during lectures, and her PowerPoints are easy to follow. Her course structure is consistent and easy to navigate, you will always know deadlines WAY ahead of time! She is so patient and actually cares about her students. Only downside for some is that she's pretty woke lol.
She is very passionate and knows a ton of history (obviously). But, she kept her lectures interesting and I was so bored with history, but this was the first history class EVER that I looked forward to. There is weekly work and all of the papers and projects are a breeze if you go to class.
Loved her in my history class. She is very lecture-based but does so in a manner where every topic is interesting and engaging. She would also bring in artifacts pertaining to whatever topic we were on, and her personality is awesome! Instead of quizzes we did two term papers based on everything we discussed, so just be sure to read up or attend!
Engl-2716 with Dr. Boster was amazing. My only regret is not taking it in person. She is the most articulate, positive, and kindest professor ever. She truly cares and shows empathy often. She is a tough grader-but in the best respect. Her feedback always makes you think more deeply. I have a tremendous amount of respect for her. Invaluable class.
Very lecture heavy. Weekly reading responses that took about an hour to do. 2 timelines for midterm and final. 3 opportunities to write a paper but only one is graded. Overall very easy, but class was boring so I skipped. Be careful because you do get an attendance grade. But I still ended with an 86. Take her class!
10/10 would take her again. I cannot say enough good, great, and wonderful things about her! She cares so much and you can tell that she is insanely passionate about the History of Medicine.
Was a very good, prompt grader. She explained concepts very clearly.
It important to point out I've never been a history person however Professor Boster definitely made it enjoyable. Th textbook is easy to follow. You have a 5 page essay midterm and final. The opportunity to submit rough drafts for feedback and points helped me out a lot. Such a caring professor. 12/10
