Excellent Prof! Excellent course! I enjoyed every lecture.
great prof - makes lectures relevant and really cares about his students
He is so funny and nice! I can't believe how entertaining his lectures are -- he is the first psyc prof who's lectures I actually enjoy! And, his essay question on the midterm was totally relevant and easy!!!
Dr. Tripp is probably one of the best profs I've had. He is interesting and entertaining in lectures, yet still manages to teach us a fair amount of material and present it in a clear and understandable format.
This guy is my hero. He is fair and so interesting. A great teacher; he actually gets people to come to class and everyone respects him. Also so funny.. tells such random stories. AWESOME man!
Entertaining teacher, however, I found his exams to be a bit ridiculous. He asked questions about topics that were never mentioned in class (only presented briefly in the text)! He also relies too heavily on the textbook, screams laziness to me!
So FUNNY! Hilarious man - only prof I stayed awake for during all the lectures! His midterm question was also one of the only ones that had to do with the material he covered =) Thanks! It was great!
He's great!!!!
We are all in love with him.... Damn he's married!
Best prof for PSYC 100
HE'S AWESOME!! Best prof I have ever had. He is a god. I love you Tripp!!!
Dr. Tripp is the best prof ever! *standing ovation and thunderous applause from the 2004 class!!!*
dean tripp is a rare example of a good teacher. he has the ability to hold people's attention, respect and most importantly, he gets people interested. i wish him nothing but the best in the future. thanks tripp!
Dr. Tripp made me want to come to class...and let me tell you not much makes me want to go to Super Psych. Great job...best prof ever!
I loved all of his lectures, I know all the ladies in the audience are sad that he's married :( He's a hilarious guy and classes with him were so much fun and open.

Best teacher EVER of ANY subject, what's up with his kid Adam? So the kid walks around the house with a bucket on his head and runs into the fridge...Greatest stories ever!! Ask him about the breastfeeding lady in the burger king...good times...
Absolutely love him!!! Knowledgable, engaging, funny, and fair. By the far the best prof I've ever had!
His lectures and his course material were a lot of fun.
Dr. Tripp is the sexiest prof at Queen's University
very engaging, funny, and had lots of experience therefore lots of examples to allow us to apply what we were learning. great prof.
Awesome guy! Didn't want to miss one of his lectures, he was hilarious and made tehm well worth it. Best prof I've had
Trippy... you are AWESOME. 'nuff said.
Overall an incredible person/teacher. I enjoyed all of his lectures and he made being in that class enjoyable.
Dr. Tripp is an amazing professor. He really puts the effort into teaching and has a great sense of humour!
Do lectures get any more enjoyable?
His classes were fun but really informative at the same time. He engaged the class, and I think that he made abnormal psych everyone's favorite topic!!!
best prof ever
He is an amazing professor. He is highly enthusiastic, comical, yet also very knowledgable. Tripp makes the subject interesting. He was so good that the class (~400 people) gave him a standing ovation upon his arrival to the final class of the year.
Dr. Dean Tripp is the sexiest male prof ever at Queen's. Never seen anyone with first name 'Dean'....they should make him Dean of the Arts and Science faculty
that is one class i dont mind paying for...reeeally funny etc even if psyc 100 is generally just a kick in the groin and a waste of creds
The best prof I had all year. He never trivialized any of the illnesses and he did an awesome job in educating the class as to the problems and sterotypes people with mental illnesses face. Dean ROCKS!!!!
He is the best PSYC 100 prof.
Amazing prof. Very funny, makes the class interesting and a pleasure to attend.
An overall amazing prof
Awesome professor with the best lectures. I've never had a better prof than him at Queen's.
Dr. Tripp is a GOD!!!!! He is hands down the most amazing prof I've had!!!
Professor Tripp was an amazing prof! very down to earth guy who is SO entertaining and u learn a lot from his classes too! AMAZING PROF...wish i could have his as my prof for the rest of PSYCH 100..unfortunately...no can do...
What an awesome prof! He made me want to go to class. I thought the profs at Queen's sucked, until Tripp. He's pretty much amazing
one word- AWESOME
Best professor at Queen's who knows how to teach
An excellent professor. Totally confident in front of a large auditorium, he's great at getting the class involved without forcing it. I knew from the first class that he was no ordinary prof, he acted like a stand up comedian!
Wow! I actually ENJOYED going to Psych lectures for once. He's comfortable in front of a large class and it shows in his great lectures. He's a real "family guy" who genuine cares about his material. Favourite prof at Queen's!!!
His lecture materials are serious, but he is the most amazing prof. who makes his lectures funny!
One of the few professors at Queen's to have a fanbase and perhaps even a fanclub. He is one of the most dedicated and knowledgable professors I've ever had the honor of being taught by. Whether talking to 14 or 400 people, he can make it seem like there was only you and him in the conversation.
He's the funniest guy at queen's!! His classes are amazing!
I LOVE DR. TRIPP.... I'm sad that he's gone... I miss him.... :(:(:(:(
This prof is amazing. He's the best professor ever and he's VERY smart!! Smartest prof at Queen's University
Amazing professor who loves his subject and who deserves the tons of praise he gets. His sense of humour (impeccable timing and delivery), interesting stories, and clarity at explaining the material really help you remember concepts from lecture. I've never seen any other prof command a class' attention the way he does. Best Psyc 100 module by far.
Any prof that gets stuck following this man has such hard luck. I don't think there is anything that could be boring in his class but it helps that he has a good module to begin with. Appreciate his antics...and when he says he will pick on you, he's not lying!
What a Tripp! Such an incredible teacher. Honestly.
Dean Tripp is amazing...nothing else explains it. I went to one of his seminar things he held one night, the 400 seat place was full...it wasn't even a class, ppl just showed up because they heard that he would be there. and boy did he deliver. after an hour of his talk, ppl were laughing and crying...it was best public speaking I've ever seen.
I heart Tripp!!
Best professor ever!! He could make even the most boring topic seem fascinating!!! Take any class he teaches...it will be worth it.
O.o; SO! Aren't we all lucky to have had the man teach us something with a little style!
this guy is THE BEST. like many have said, it seems like were not going to a lecture. it seems like he's giving us a performance. He is soo awesome! he really has the charisma to capture us all. lol
i love tripp!
I am in love with Dr. Tripp. He is my obsession and he is the best person who has ever walked this earth. thank the lord that we were blessed to be able to listen to him for just a few hours a week. amen.

Dr. Tripp was a breath of fresh air to the PSYC 100 class. It was an arduous task to go to class before and after him, but during his tenure as our professor his lucid conveyal of information in a clear and concise format, created an environment very conducive to individual growth and productivity. He was a spark of hope in a hard course.

BEST prof ever. Being in his class was like watching a comedian...but an educational comedian. He talked exacrly like stuart mclean from cbs vunyl cafe...his voice is awsome. LOVED his exercise breaks where he would have the class stretch during our three hr lecture.
great prof ..tripp all the way
He's a great prof! I looked forward to his lectures and didn't want to miss any. He made his material so interesting, he used enough videos and media without getting carried away. He's the only prof i've had to directly use students in front of the class to explain concepts. Don't expect his exam to be easy, you still have to know his stuff.
BEST STORIES
Entertaining, and loved by most. I can't say I learned anything in his class though.
This was not a class you skipped or fell asleep in. Subject matter was interesting and his way of presenting it was even better.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! One of my favorite prof's by far. Kept the material interesting and always made us laugh. High energy and good connection with the students. He made coming to class fun instead of a c****.
He is one of the reasons I switched to a psyc major and love abnormal psyc. He's very entertaining, down-to-earth and I would go to my normal lecture PLUS super psyc during his module...it was just too good to only see once.
He is just ahahaha.. how should I say this without giving myself away... "fun"? One of the best profs at Queen's! Loved and am still loving abnormal Psych!
Tripp is amazing. He knows his material inside and out, and somehow when all of the other classes start losing people midway through the term, his classes remain full and attentive. He has a genuine passion for his subjects, and it translates into his teaching. You rock Deano!
The first lecture I was tired and hoped he'd just give us the outline. 5 minutes later I never wanted him to stop talking. Material is presented in an interesting and hilariously funny way with awesome anecdotes. You can tell he's extremely passionate about psychology and it translates into his teaching. Best prof EVER!
BEST PROF EVER. A+
Actually makes you want to go to class. Funny enough that you pay attention and remember things
Tripp was interesting and easy to understand. He made abnormal psychology fun and easy to relate to. I definitely loved having him as a professor!
Amazing. I did not have any particular interest in abnormal psychology but he made it not only the best psych unit, but one of the best classes I took. Great at connecting the subject to everyone, amazing speaker, funny - you will have a great time in his class and learn thons.
He is able to communicate within his lectures through life experiences - makes the class extremely interesting!
Amazing prof! Really a treat to go to class!
TRIPP IS THE MAN! He makes his lectures fun and interesting at the same time.
One of the best profs I had in first year, great at his job. I actually enjoyed his lectures and because it was so interesting it was easy to study for. Thanks Dr. Tripp!
This man insprired me to a) eat salad everyday b)workout 5 times a week c) actually like psychology. I wish I couldn't say his module has changed my life, but state of union stands as such that I will say, this module changed my life.
My favourite professor so far. He would stay behind after class and get to know us. He is such a fun, intelligent person. His passion for psychology and teaching really shows through the way he interacts with his students.
Tripp was useless. I thought he was good the first day because he seemed fun, but he never ended up actually teaching ANY course material. He told many personal stories, but when it came time for the exam, he really screwed the class over. Especially considering none of the material he DID talk about in class was on it.
Wow. Passionate teacher, clear, inspiring, made me want to TRY in the stupidest course of all time... Psychology 100.
He's good. Very interesting, and makes his section (clinical) more intriguing than usual. However, I don't think he's as awesome as everyone says he is. His questions on the exams are a bit obscure and oddly phrased. And his notes are mediocre. But definitely one of the better Psych 100 teachers.
Tripp is a great prof, you will actually enjoy going to class. he has so many great stories and is always clear. but watch out, his exam is tough! his exam questions were focused on the minute details from the lectures, if they were from the lectures at all...make sure you do the readings.
Funniest professor in Canada!!
AMAZING. I didn't want to miss a class because of how funny and informative this man is. Made this class very enjoyable.
Best prof ever! Hope to have him again.
GREAT PROF --- made psych a joy to attend
Amazing! The most engaging prof I have ever had! Makes the lectures extremly interesting and relevant. The lecture hall was literally overflowing with students because everyone loved his lectures so much.
Dean Tripp is the most engaging and informative Prof I've had in my whole university career! He is a captivating lecturer and is personable and easy to talk to inside and outside the classroom. Study and read the text book and you will do great in this course!
One of the best profs I've ever had. Fun, interesting, and downright hilarious. He really knows his stuff, and can give a lot of real-life examples to help with understanding. The only bad thing was that he only had 6 weeks lectures in Psyc100.
awesome
Hilarious, interesting prof who definitely made psych 100 fun to go to. But the information he teaches doesn't seem entirely relevant and everyone felt unprepared for the exam. Great prof for lectures, but you don't get much else out of them.
GREAT GUY, GREAT PERSONALITY! VERY ENTERTAINING LECTURES!
Entertaining and engaging lecturer, but everything said in class is pretty much useless for the exams. Expectations were also often changing in this course.
Really entertaining prof who cares about his students. Exam material doesn't always mirror what he lectures though.
Probably the most captivating lecturer I have had. He can be goofing around with his audience one minute, and then giving a dead serious speech on mental illness the next; either way, you will be listening. I found that some of the time he spent being silly could have been used to teach us about things he decided to test us on, however
He seems great in PSYC100 - but in upper year classes he's honestly the worst professor I've had. Extremely nice man, but do not confuse good speaker with good professor.
Mixes humour with theory and practice. Great lecturer, super approachable, and overall just a lovely guy. Sometimes goes on totally irrelevant rants. NOT good for people who can't take a joke (seriously, that type of student is out there). Exams are a mix of memorization and understanding, and can be difficult to understand at times.
Very engaging prof so the class is pretty enjoyable. He tells very interesting stores. Looked forward to going which is surprising considering it is a night class. However, the textbook is highly tested and much of what he tests is not mentioned in class. If you go to class and read the textbook, you should be able to do fine in this class.
My favourite prof at Queen's!
One of my favourite profs! His lectures are not mandatory since his exams are multiple choice from the textbook bank (so READ that textbook and its an easy A), yet I went to every single lecture just to hear him speak/rant/tell stories about his kids. He's funny and engaging, and is very knowledgable about what he teaches.
Great guy, fantastic stories in lectures. Very respectable and a classy lad.
Dean Tripp has mastered the art of illusion. His engaging and captivating lectures convinced me he was the most brilliant prof I'd ever met after 2 weeks. But after 2 months of lectures, his lustre had vanished. His stories are pointless and convoluted. His exams are a joke; either exceedingly easy or impossible, but never fair. Terrible.
There's no point going to class because he tests right out of the textbook. As others have said he goes off the deep end with his stories. The course itself is super interesting but he teaches it in the most dull fashion possible. And by 'teach,' I mean he assigns textbook readings.
I used to think he was a good prof. However, after taking this class, I realize that he honestly isn't. He tells lots of stories, which are usually not that useful. And he is the laziest test maker ever. He takes questions from the textbook publisher and I don't think he even checks to make sure they are good questions before giving us the exam.
They might as well make McGraw-Hill Ryerson the course instructor, because 90% of the information you're tested on will be from the text. Tripp uses class time to deliver sermons about how to live "the right way," in his eyes. His exams are also completely trivia based
I took PSYC235 last year and while it was very interesting, it was held back by Tripp's teaching style. He didn't seem very prepared for lectures, it felt like he would just come in and talk about random stories until his 3 hours were up. Exams were bizarre as well, just tests of random details rather than important info
I can't say i was a fan of Tripp's lectures, he seems like a very charismatic guy but otherwise was a pretty ineffective and lazy instructor
All Tripp does is talk, and not about the lecture material. I heard more about his son and hockey than health psychology - he teaches nothing. I did well in his class by never attending lectures (because they were useless) and instead just reading the textbook - he tests directly from it. His tests randomly vary from easy to really tricky
Good prof.
Lectures are useless - talks about nothing and covers no course material. All you have to do is read the textbook.
Very charismatic in class, and tells great anecdotes to help reaffirm information he presents in class. However, his exams are very lazy as he seems to pull his questions from question banks and he outwardly states that things he covers in class may not be on the exam, whereas the entirety of textbook is fair game. Good prof, unfair evaluation.
Based on the mixed reviews, I didn't know what to expect with Tripp. His lectures can be inspirational, but they're not necessary to do well in the course. Everyone says to read the textbook, but if you want to get an A or above, I'd say that's not enough; he tests on details even though his exams are all MC, so take detailed notes or reread a lot!
Tripp's a really lazy prof, he doesn't seem to put any effort into his lectures or exams. People love him because he jokes around in class, but he doesn't actually teach you anything or prepare you for future classes. I go to class to learn and Tripp was a disappointment
Whole course is just reading from the textbook! Exams are not made by him, but he takes questions from the textbook that sometimes have no relevance. Hard to study for.
Expect to read the entire textbook because lectures are relatively anecdotal (which is nice) but he doesn't usually leave enough time to get through the lecture in detail. The professor often says "read it in the textbook" and moves on.
Tripp is just mailing it in at this point. He shows up, chats about his life for 45 minutes, then might half-heartedly get to the lecture. He doesn't even make up his own tests! The guy doesn't hold a candle to Bowie, Chivers, Holden, Dringenberg, Menard, or any of the other great psyc profs at Queen's. Avoid him.
As said, he tests straight from the textbook. But he will choose ridiculously obscure details for the sole purpose of manipulating the grades of the students in the class. The "great" anecdotal stories he tells in class lack insightfulness- after a while you realize they all contain the same fruitful simplistic theme. Cant believe he wins awards
Informative class, and practical for my own lifestyle. Good content and material, not particularly difficult but a good amount to memorize and know. Disliked how the lectures weren't very helpful
Took positive psychology, very easy class(dont bother going to lecture, its straigh out of the textbook). Thought him to be a pretty unfair teacher
I only go to lectures to listen to him speak. He goes off topic a lot but its always really interesting and hilarious. You definitely need to read the textbook, as the tests are taken solely from the textbook. Overall the lectures could cover the topics a bit better but Dean's anecdotes make up for it.
He tells funny stories, but they aren't related to course content and do not help you learn the material. His examples on his clinical patients were interesting. The exams for this class are extremely difficult - many questions test specific irrelevant content in the textbook. Only textbook material is on the exam - lectures are pointless.
His lectures are pretty unrelated to the material. He talks mostly about himself. One thing I found is that he's extremely biased. You can tell exactly what he thinks about different disorders when in lecture. He is pretty dismissive of some mental disorders while he really focused on how debilitating others are. Not the best quality in a professor
The prof is a funny person, but really isn't qualified for a great teacher. The materials covered in the tests are way more than what he talked about in class, you have to read the textbook really thoroughly to do good on the tests.
Great lecturer, great professor -- lazy grader. Questions are recycled from the Textbook's testbank which can be found online and accessed by anyone. Textbook stimulated my interest in the subject significantly, but be prepared to read every single detail.
Dean Tripp is my favourite professor at Queen's. His lectures got me up in the morning because I loved hearing him speak. His personal stories add a lot to the lecture and aid understanding. His tests are not hard at all as long as you go to lecture (sometimes) and read the textbook. He's is very supportive, and wants the best for his students.
Silver fox and basically Tim Allan's Hotter twin
Nice person, horrible professor. My worst course at Queen's, and his semester was the worst part of the class. Lectures don't even show up on exams (only the textbook does) and his exams were unnecessarily difficult. He also said he wouldn't put names on the exam, and at least 5 questions were about psychologists. Went off topic often in lecture.
Not a fan.
Tripp is a nice prof, but seems to get carried away in anecdotal stories during lecture that barely pertain to the material. Doesn't cover anything in lecture that is on the exams, and makes the questions the tiniest details from the textbook that no one would ever think to study.
Would highly consider investing in the testbank since he pulls all the exam questions from the bank. No point in going to lecture since all tested material is covered in the textbook but a decent lecturer to listen to. Grading and course organization is fair
Sets up course so that if you skip any class you will be losing grades, as every class is either a quiz or a lab. The quizzes, labs, and pre-lab are an unreasonable amount of work and do not help my understand of the material whatsoever. His lectures are just him preaching and no actual exam content.
Worst prof I've ever had at Queen's. He doesn't teach the material and gives extremely hard exams. If you skip class you will lose marks because every class is either a lab or a quiz, and he leaves no room for error.
He is an incredible professor! his lectures are extremely enjoyable to attend and he is very open and passionate about his work. He is extremely approachable for any questions or help that you need in the course. My favorite professor that i have had in all 4 years of my undergraduate degree.
Dr. Tripp is an extremely hard marker. Will grade things out of 2 and take away marks for writing your NAME or not italicizing something in your references. Will not respond to emails and will not be helpful. Do not take health psychology. Just don't.
