Dr. Dean's class was awesome. Super easy if you study. Puts "attendance" questions on the test, so it is best to attend class. He was absolutely hilarious!

Dr. Dean is an amazing professor. He is such a nice guy and he truly cares about whats going on in the world. He could be a bit scatterbrained at times but overall he was great. My problem with this class was the TA's who made the tests and did the grading. They had no idea what was going on half the time and going to their reviews were worthless.

I'm surprised at how much I knew when taking his exams. He teaches everything in the most clear way possible and always keeps class alive. Although you will have to look at the book every once in a while, you won't need to buy the new expensive edition at the bookstore. I never had any problems with using the old edition.

Hinitz is a great professor. He's extremely funny, and definitely passionate about the topic. Students showed up the entire semester at his 9AM class rather than sleeping in - and believe me, that's saying something. Definitely worth taking.

Funny Prof. Makes the class interesting and entertaining. Probably my favorite college class so far. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Go to class, it's worth it anyway, but you miss test questions if you dont. Going over the book a bit also helps. Unfortunately discussions are boring and pointless.

Take Dr. Hinitz if you can! Pys 101 is certainly not a difficult class. Be sure to come to class b/c many of the questions on the tests are based on your attendance. Tests are merely vocab memorization. However, Dr. Hinitz is great at lecturing! You will not be sorry, take him and it's easy to get an A.

He was pretty good. The way he teaches the class makes it very hard to doze off which I liked. Just make sure you show up to class because answers to many test questions are only said in lecture. If you remember everything he says in class and understand what all the vocab words are, you should do great.

He's a great professor. Probably my favorite thus far. I highly recommend him. This was one of the few classes that I enjoyed every time. He doesn't take attendance but be warned: he does examples, tells stories and tells jokes during class, and they usually wind up on the test.

Hinitz is my favorite professor so far. He is hilarious and highly entertaining. You should go to most classes because he likes to reward the people who don't skip by giving out tons of freebies. Tests are incredibly easy. Either go to all the classes or read all the chapters and you'll do fine. Celia is a great TA too.

Dr. Hinitz is the best teacher I have had. All the lectures are engaging and the energy he gives keeps you awake. His little bits of advice really make me feel inspired. As long as you read the book and go to classes then getting an A in this class is easy. I learned alot in this class just sit in the front and take good notes!

Great class, great professor. He blazes through notes, so take the textbook to highlight unless you're a real fast typer/writer. Although the class is extremely interesting, the tests are pretty hard. You have to absorb a lot, especially from lecture because he tests you on what he says. Don't neglect reading the book either and the 2-page paper.

First of all,the majority of students taking this class are freshman.I'm a junior and everyone needs to realize professors are not required to provide a study guide and you are responsible for taking notes regardless of the pace of the professor.The power points are just vocabulary terms that are in the book.This professor amazing, freshman grow up

He's a really good teacher. Plenty of extra credit. Go to class! His examples used in class ARE on the tests. Also, remembering names is a really good thing. Reading the text before tests are really helpful, but the tests are not hard. I recommend him!

Dr. Hinitz is my favorite teacher! He makes the material interesting and easy to understand and remember. He uses clever examples in class, you definitely want to go to the large lecture sections. Because this is a psychology 101 class, something most people take to fulfill breadth requirements and the like, Dr. Hinitz makes sure that even if the students do not continue on in psychology, they come away with useful knowledge for living their own lives. He is a wicked professor, and for incentive, not bad to look at either.

I am a junior in college and Dr. Hinitz is by far oone of the best professors/teachers I have ever had. He is funny and really loves and cares about what he does. The class is cake. There arent any homework assignments and he tells you what will be on the test!!!

Very funny professor. He makes the material make sense. He does not ask much from his students, but be sure to do every assignment he gives because there will not be other assignments to help make up for the points lost. Read the book after his lecture because the book makes a lot more sense after he has explained it.

Hinitz is a really cool guy and pretty eccentric, which makes for a fun class. Lots of demonstrations, videos, and magic tricks to break from powerpoints. Hinitz also has a ton of real world experience to draw on and has a knack for relating class concepts to real life. Pulled an A pretty easily, but this class is more about "getting it".

Dr. Hinitz was an awesome profesor. The class its self can be somewhat challenging, particularly if you don't study for prior to the test. You absolutely have to study for the test. Hinitz tells you everything that will be on it just study. I didn't study much for the first 2 test and did poorly but studied for the third and final and did fine.

Dr. Hinitz was one of my favorite professors. His lectures are interesting, so I always tried to make it even though they weren't mandatory. Class was based on three tests, a research paper, a movie assignment, and the final. His examples always made the material very easy to understand. He's a funny guy and made me love psychology even more.

He's easily approachable and performs experiments in class that are very entertaining to watch and participate in. Best professor ever! He has 3 midterms, 1 term paper, and a final. You HAVE to show up to his class if you want a good grade bc his tests are 90% what he said and demonstrated in class. He's super cool though and makes the class interesting. No Homework! If you need a social science this is definitely the class that you should take.

Phenomenal lectures and very easy-going professor. Honors section fostered a lot of discussion during class and tests were very easy as long as you skimmed the book and took good notes in lecture. Dean means well in his lectures, but most of them just go off topic and we end up having to struggle to study for the tests. Spent a lot of money on a book that wasn't even used properly. Class was okay, but would have rather spent money on a class that would have been more on topic and useful.

Tests aren't tough as long as you go to class, reading the book isn't as necessary as advertised. Weekly discussions review what was talked about during lecture and lightly expands on it. He does go through slides fast so be prepared to write quickly but he expands on slides that contain information on exams. He gives test Q's in class so attend.

I honestly had one of the best experiences ever with Dr. Hinitz. He made me understand psychology in a way I never thought I could, and he did it in a way that was fun, stress-free, inspirational, genuine, and frank. Study the key terms and people, and reread class notes. The powerpoints aren't as important as what Hinitz says about them, often time in metaphors or jokes.

I took Dr. Hinitz for PSY 101 and let me tell you- FUNNIEST PROF EVER!! I tell all my friends to take him because he is so passionate and knowledgable about psychology. Even if you aren't a psych major, you should take it. It will change how you see the world. He gave a lot of extra credit, only one paper and the midterms were super easy. EASY A!!

Great teacher. 95% of test material comes from lecture; I looked at my book maybe twice so I wouldn't bother buying it. Easy A if you show up to class most of the time and take notes. Hands down the most incredible and inspirational professor I have had in my entire college career! I had him for a three hour long class and I was on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE class. His lectures blew my mind. He really cares about his students, and I learned not only a ton about psychology, but a lot of life lessons from his class.

Dr. Hinitz is an amazing professor, but his TAs make enjoying the class extremely difficult. They are very defensive over their vague grading practices and the grading style changes depending on who is grading the paper. If you take this class, you'll learn a lot from Dr. Hinitz, but the TAs will definitely drive you crazy.

If you've never taken psychology before, this class can be challenging. The professor is amazing and very funny. The test questions are very specific and you have to do a lot of studying. The TA's can be difficult. Nice people but difficult. I emailed two of them 4 times for them to put in my extra credit and never did.

This is one of those classes where you aren't put through rigorous testing or homework, can get a relatively easy A (with mild studying ) while still learning a great amount through his interactive and hilarious lectures. Hinitz himself is a big sweetheart, super understanding, and very open to questions. I wish he taught more classes!!

This is by far the best and most influential course I have taken at UNR. Dr Hinitz really cares about his students actually learning and growing through the course. He is able to relate everything and anything to real life situations. This is a capstone course so there were a lot of papers, but 100% worth taking.

BUT There's a one page single spaced paper and quiz each class, one term paper, two movie analyses, a group presentation, and a final. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't. You know you have an amazing professor when you look forward to going to lecture just to listen. A LOT of reading, I read the entire textbook, but you will ace your exams. I find that people scramble to take down notes in class but if you read, its word for word, so really notes are minimal. Lots of extra credit, easy paper assignment, great class.

The lectures are super entertaining! He's hilarious and knows everything about psychology. The exams are somewhat reasonable but inconsistent. Some cover the concepts really well, and some seem to test whether you read every minute detail in the book or wrote down every little thing from lecture. DO NOT SKIP THE LECTURES. But that's not hard, because he's hilarious and crazy (in a good way). Does experiments or gives good ancedotes in class to illustrate concepts. Very knowledgeable. A lot of questions on the tests will be on something he only said in lecture, so pay attention and take good notes! You will have to read the book too though.

Dr. Hinitz is the best professor I have ever had. If you are a psychology student you NEED to take this class. Mind blowing lectures and gust speakers and you will learn so much about yourself and those around you. Lots of reading but a 10/10 class.

Lectures were super entertaining and helpful. 90% of the test was stuff he said in class, so write down when he says "This will be on the test." because it will! Super nice guy.

Dr Hinitz was very inspirational and covered everything you would need to know. Attend the discussion groups because those are very important if you want to pass. He gives you a bunch of the test questions in class, so make sure you attend class. He does lots of crazy things, and he is just a little unorganized, but overall he is great as a teacher

I see that a lot of people are complaining about his lectures being disorganized, but I found the lectures to be very through and highly entertaining. Hinitz helped simplify complex psychological perspectives which when coupled with readings from the textbook would all but guarantee you an A.

Although I am only a freshman, Dr. Hinitz is the best professor I have taken a class from. Lectures are fun and engaging, he often demonstrates experiments and talks about other interesting tidbits. He doesnt cover a lot but he makes what he does cover memorable. Attendance is not mandatory, but tests will have questions from class discussions.

Professor Hinitz lectures will be the highlight of your year. Go to class and he gives you answers to questions on the exams and you might even be lucky to participate in some of the lecture activities. I would not have picked any other way to learn PSY101.

The best professor at UNR so far. Some say he is disorganized and irrelevant. These are the same snowflakes that skip class and don't pay attention to what he says. He says nothing on accident, and his tests are simply what he says in class (he'll tell you exactly what to write). I don't want to take another PSYCH course this man isn't teaching.

Best professor I have ever had. He was my professor for my first semester of college and I loved his class so much. It was very interesting and very interactive. Attendance is not mandatory but if you don't show up, you will miss a lot of important material. Make sure you write down all of the examples he gives in class!! He gives amazing lectures!

This is the only class Im actually excited to attend, he makes lectures entertaining and it helps remembering the topics a lot more. The only problem is there is no study guide for the tests, so just hope youre studying for the right things. Also, theyre lecture heavy so you need to go to class. Many extra credit opportunities. Be prepared to study for the tests because there are no study guides. it is important that you go to every lecture even though there is no attendance taken. Dr. Hinitz is an AMAZING professor. His lectures are very interesting and profound, but you do have to go to the lectures to pass the tests, even though attendance isn't mandatory. Tests are on the heavy side - around 80 q, but if you take good notes in class, you'll be okay. UNR is lucky to have him!!

This man is my favorite professor I have ever had. Not only are you learning about psychology, but also life itself. Between his in class social experiments, hilarious stories, and interesting analogies there was never a dull moment. Make sure you go to class and write down EVERYTHING he says. Dr. Hinitz is the most entertaining professor I have ever had, he is so funny and his lectures are never just him showing a power point. Dean interacts with the class and is hilarious. I have learned so much from him and am sad I am no longer in the class. Definitely take him! He gives answers on the test in class so going to class is helpful.

Hinitz was a cool professor- he did a bunch of demonstrations with students to help us understand, which was always entertaining and actually pretty helpful for understanding concepts. It wasn't too hard as long as you go to class; attendance isn't mandatory but he gives out test questions every class which end up being most of the tests.

I loved the in-person lectures! Dr. Hinitz is very knowledgeable and manages to make class interesting every day. He also managed to stay interesting once we moved to an online structure. Dr. Hinitz is a very outgoing man and loves to teach. He is a clinical psychologist so he teaches based on personal experience, so the majority of the real content comes from discussion group. I did not love his teaching style because he is not very organized, but it is engaging. Go to lecture because anything he says is fair game for the tests.

Hinitz was the best professor I have ever had. His exams are 90% based on what he talked about during lecture. He ran "experiments" on the class and it made it really easy to solidify the information in a practical way. There is a textbook, but isnt really necessary for passing. The discussion is mandatory kind of because of random quizzes.

He says Good morning and actually makes lectures interesting by tying in an activity(experiment) or video. He answers "stump the professor" questions and makes the class fun. You WILL need the textbook for tests. TAs help with teaching whatever Hinitz did not. RARELY ASSIGNS HOMEWORK... good if you dont like hw but bad if you use hw as pillow.

Although it was completely on zoom, Dr. Hinitz never made the class boring. He gives answers to test questions and makes the class very interesting. Go to lectures and read the textbook or else you wont do good on the exams. There are three midterms and a final as well as a 6-page research paper. Overall I definitely recommend taking this class!

His lectures are not the ordinary boring lectures youre used to. Theyre fun and spontaneous. He shows videos to relate what were learning about to real examples and loves when you ask questions. A lot of what he talks about in his lectures is are on the exams so pay attention. If you want those boring PowerPoint lectures, dont take this class.

Professor Hinitz made every lecture interesting and engaging, and was always more than happy to answers questions even if it had no relevance to what we were learning. The tests are heavily focused on what is talked about in class so it makes the tests not too challenging and makes you focus during lecture. Overall my favorite class I've taken.

Makes the most of the online lectures. Super funny and lectures are very memorable. Largely inaccessible outside of class and a lot of the class depends on the TAs you get.

BEST professor at UNR. Engaging lectures. He clearly states not to message him via Canvas and tells students to email their TAs for assistance. He also provides specific pages + sections of the textbook for tests. Easiest class as long as you show up, participate, and actually listen to material in class. Dynamic with videos + activities. Great!!!

Dr. Hinitz was an amazing professor! I looked forward to his lectures every week, he makes his learning fun and entertaining. He lets you know in advance when tests will be and the lowest score you could possibly get is a B if you follow the study guides.

One of the best psych professors at UNR. Had him for 101 and loved it. He is very interesting and he never makes a lecture boring. Three tests throughout the semester, he drops the lowest score so you don't have to take the final if you choose not to.

Dr. Hinitz is the BEST psych professor at UNR.. take one of his classes before you graduate. His lectures are so engaging, he does crazy activities that are always really memorable, and he truly cares about the success of his students. A heavy portion of the tests are based on what he goes over in class so it's super important to attend lectures.

Overall he's super fun and entertaining and knows a lot, definitely recommend.

Loved going to his class and he really solidified my wanting to be a therapist. His lectures are pretty anecdotal and he tests you on that so show up. Interesting guy who shares some real life experiences in the therapeutic relationship. Did I learn everything I wanted to? No, but he made me interested enough to keep studying psych.

Honestly, he is one of the best professors I have had. His lectures are so much fun and he makes it easy to understand the material. I found that the tests are a little bit difficult and I have only gotten an A on one of them. They definitely require some studying and reading the textbook to get the little details

Dr. Hinitz has some of the most interesting lectures you will receive in your life. He is absolutely hilarious and makes psychology very fun. That being said he skips a fair amount of content in lecture which can be frustrating. This is made up in discussion though, which is the bulk of the course. Lots of extra credit opportunities.

Very, very inspirational. Honestly this class was life changing. Take it and you will see what I mean. Incredibly enthralling and changed my outlook on everything. Not very difficult, either, but be prepared to be engaged.

Dr. Hinitz is a pretty good professor. His lectures are funny and engaging but they can get disorganized at times and off topic. The class wasn't assignment heavy but I do suggest for people to attend the class because a lot of the content of the lectures will be on the test. It's a great class to be in and recommend anyone to take it.

Super funny (as long as you participate), you'll have to be open with him in order to bond with him well :). I look up to him as a psychologist :) Definitely a must take class as a freshman as he will change and inspire you to do what you want :) and lectures were super fun as he will try to mess with you a lot :D

Loved Dean Hinitz! One of the funniest prof on campus! He makes his lectures entertaining and while actually learning. His lectures are mainly examples and you have to read the textbook to understand the concepts. He's pretty chill with grading. As long as you do all your reading and go to discussion this class is easy to get an A.

Professor Hinitz is an amazing guy. He truly cares about his students and has the best lectures hands down. His lecture style is weird as you just basically have to take notes on whatever he says, not whats on the board. Exams are almost entirely based on what happens in the lectures so make sure to have perfect attendance. Never a boring class!

It's so hard to describe Hinitz and Psych of Trauma in just 350 char. because you have to be there to understand the power of that class. The class was lifechanging, and I would take it again in a heartbeat. However, a lot of the rumors/comments about his ego are very true. Took me 4+ semesters to not be waitlisted too, but it was worth the wait.

This was by far my favorite class I have ever taken. The lectures were never boring and I looked forward to class every week. Most of the material on the midterms is directly from class so make sure to go to every lecture! He genuinely cares about his students and being committed to teaching psychology. You can also tell he is extremely passionate.

I am writing this review 4 years later. I had Hinitz in 2018 and he is truly the GOAT of professors. The lectures were required but they were full of gems. Even now I look back and think about the lessons that we had. Hinitz has a wealth of knowledge that he freely shared and if you aren't paying attention, then you are missing out on a lot.

Out of all the classes I took last semester, this one was my favorite. Each lecture was amazing and super informational. I looked forward to going to the class. Dr. Hinitz is a fantastic teacher. Each exam includes examples from lectures, so make sure you're going and taking notes. There is extra credit and a paper to write, but it's pretty easy.

Though this class has a decent amount of work, it is incredibly rewarding. I'd recommend this class to literally anyone, but especially people who want to go on to work in clinical psychology. Dr. Hinitz is an incredible professor, and this class was genuinely life changing in the best way possible.

He really knows how to get a class engaged and trust me he will get you engaged. If you have perfect attendance or at least near perfect attendance you can get extra credit. Professor Hinitz's PSY101 class is a fun and engaging experience. Attendance is important, but the material sticks thanks to his teaching methods. Using unstuck study ai and the free textbook helped me prep for exams. Overall, a solid 4/5 class.

As a psych major you need to take the Trauma class. Most engaging class I have ever taken. He makes you feel seen and cared about even in a large class. Weekly quiz kinda tough its A LOT of reading. You learn so much from his lectures and super fun and deep activities. Try not to miss a single day since there is so much in each class to absorb.9/10

Attendance isn't mandatory but you NEED to go. The way he teaches things actually sticks with you. He also asks about things that he went over in lecture, on the exams. And, it def helped having a good GroupMe, so pray the kids in your class are chill. My TA sucked (hope y'all don't get her), but regardless, Dr. Hinitz is very easy to reach out to.

Dr. Hintz was honestly an amazing professor. Sometimes the stuff he said didn't match what we were talking about, and he needed to go more in-depth with the topics, but I genuinely loved this class. I would take another class by him and I was always excited to go. I think he lent on the TAs a little bit to much, but he was great besides that.

Great lecturer, definitely the better of the two Psych 101 teachers BY FAR. Has some very interesting takes on life, but every lecture is a fresh experience, and I learned more about life from this class than any other. Absolute awesome professor, if i could retake the class i so would, technically the attendance isn't mandatory but he does do class examples and literally says “oh yeah this will be on your test” and its word for word, bar for bar exactly on the test. if you're the type to skip the class, go away because he's like a straight up stand up comedian

Dr. Hinitz has a way of teaching you not only the material, but things you didn't even know were encoded into you!! This man is so funny, so entertaining, showing up to class was never so appealing!! SO GOOD!!

Hinitz is amazing. I will admit his testing style is different, while attendance is not mandatory I promise you, if you don't show up you will not pass. His tests are 20% random stuff he will say in class and demonstrations he did in class but he will always say "Here is a test question!". 1 paper the whole semester. Chill & interactive lectures.

Hinitz includes activities in his class that enhance the learning experience. Any intelligent student genuinely interested in psychology will learn valuable lessons in his classes.

He is genuinely a good teacher and has a lot of experience and knowledge which he wants to pass on to his students, in regards to his harsher ratings I think that's due to favoritism. He would have obvious students he would interact with and put more effort into than others which caused visible resentment, and his TAs were behind and disorganized

He did fun in class demos which helped with learning the material. The class was extremely easy if you attended, which I recommend bc it really is fun. He taught in a way that made me feel like I wasn't in class, definitely one of my favorites I've ever taken. You can tell he likes to be there and teach and he is always wanting us to ask questions!
