I took his MU11 class in the Spring Semester and he only taught a night class but it was completely worth it. This man is amazing, don't judge him on his beard and looks because he is a hilarious character. He loves teaching, loves talking to people and loves music. Great teacher, loves music and very helpful. Going into this class I had no idea had to read notes. Now, I can not only read them, but he taught us to play the piano. If you are unsure about this class, its an easy A and you will actually learn notes and how to play the piano regardless of prior knowlegde.

Class is extremely easy and fun. He makes you go a concert, orchestra and a play and write a review on each. The final is a 5 minute music composition that you have to make but it isn't that hard and its fun to do. He is funny and full of energy and isn't afraid to speak his mind. I would recommend him to anyone.

This teacher is really one of a kind. He's funny, dynamic, and very passionate about his job in a good way though-- he made the class interesting. DO NOT BUY/ RENT THE BOOK. I rented it and didn't use it once! The project was a little time consuming but I had fun. I highly reccomand this teacher and class by far.

Professor Karahalis was awesome!He is a really good professor and his class is not hard at all. There are three concert evaluations that you have to do, orchestral, broadway musical, and one of your choice.There is also a final project, but it's a recording project. Overall his class is an easy A as long as you do the work and show up.

To some he might come off as aggresive, but once you get to know him you'll understand it's just his humor. Great teacher. I was in History of Rock and Roll the Fall semester at Suffolk. This professor is not only funny but knows how to keep an audience properly engaged. The quizzes are all open book and he is very straight forward with the questions. Pay attention and take good notes and you will pass. Extra credit is encouraged and offered. Great professor!!

DEAN Karahalis (not to be confused for his brother or son teaching at SCC) is a great man. He's extremely witty, hilarious and really knows his material. He might come off abrasive at first, but that's just his humor--he's harmless! You have to attend 2 concerts and write a paper on each. Pop quizzes during movies, but everything is straightforward

I had him for History of Rock & Roll and it was definitely my favorite class I've taken so far at Suffolk. I wouldn't identify as a musical person but this class was definitely one that we could all relate to. Apart from a lot of quizzes, there was little to no work in this class. There is a final project (super easy) and 2 concert evaluations.

He makes a 3 hour class as painless as possible. If you need a music credit to graduate, do yourself a favor and pick him! Dean is a real clown. The type of man to surprise us with a final exam the week before we expected to take it and start playing the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence at a ridiculous volume as we begin the test to make us feel like crap but at the same time be filled with laughter and joy. The class ,History of Rock and Roll was so great , I'm an older returning student so I was familiar with much of the subjects ,but professor K was great in explaining the relevance of the musicians . class was very enjoyable. didn't use the textbook , wants you to go to 2 concerts and review them .

History of Rock and Roll with Professor Karahalis was one of my favorite classes of the semester. He is such a fun professor and most of the class is just listening to awesome music. Quizzes are open notes, so if you take good notes its impossible to fail. There are only a few quizzes and two projects that are fun to do, also he gives extra credit.

Very easy professor and chill. Managed to get an A despite always showing up 20min. to an hour late, and falling asleep here and there. Little homework and used google for most of it. Take notes since they help with the hw, and the tests were easy. The reviews don't lie. I did a rant and it was an easy A and took 5 min.

Had him for History of Rock & Roll. Super chill environment. Each unit is a different decade and you listen to the most iconic songs from each decade up to the 1980s. You do and should definitely pay attention as there are pop quizzes. The questions are specific so take good notes. The final is a simple slideshow, and extra credit is also offered.

He was supposed to cover the History of Rock and Roll from the 1950's-2010's, and he spent almost all of our classes in the 50's and 60's. We had only 1 class for the 70's, our last. Take vigorous notes, the quizzes are about small details. Videos and documentaries are the majority of the class and he always let us out early. Funny guy too.

If your looking to fill out music credits take history of rock n roll with him. Its easy and you only fail if you dont do anything.

Show up and try not to be late the tests are super easy, just make sure you take notes and pay attention to his lectures because he will give you the answers for the upcoming tests. I took this professor's History of Rock and Roll class, and it was fun and engaging, even though it was online. If you have to take a music class, I highly suggest that you take him! He responds to emails right away and is always willing to help and go the extra mile. I am a music lover. However, anyone should be able to take his class & do well

I absolutely loved this professor and would totally have him again! The assignments and the class were very fun and the professor taught each decade of music so well.

Great teacher.I took his History of Rock and Roll online zoom class.Two hour class he talks about music legends and we watch alot of performances.He is a very simple guy and has a funny sense of humor.Theres two writing assignments, five 10 question quizs and a powerpoint final. As long as you write down important things during class you will pass.
