Talks fast, but gives a lot of information. His exams are all essay, study a lot
Very Good Teacher, Knows Subject. Great Teacher.
cool guy, lots of energy and excitement. FUN
he is a cool teacher, but he does talk really fast
Very intelligent and passionate about history. Always willing to help students i
Best History Teacher I ever had. Lots of notes. He does talk fast but he'll repeat things or you can ask him to. Took 2 courses with him and I have learned a lot! Tests are straight from the notes.
I waited an entire year to take Hist 102 so I could take it with Dr. Kotlowski- he lectures about interesting aspects of history, he is nice, funny, passionate about his job and his tests are fairly easy.
good teacher, sense of humor, talks fast, all essay tests and quizzes, interesting lecture, readings and videos, you will learn a lot
very nice. only class i don't sleep in. tests easy if you study. take good notes.
Great teacher. Highly recommend. Talks fast but always will repeat it when u ask. We watch movies and the test is straight from the notes. If u fail this class it because u never go to class not because he is too hard
Awesome lecturer!!!! Don't even need to buy the book. If you go to class and don't mind taking notes, he's perfect. Very Entertaining!
Exceptional teacher! No need for the book. Show up for class, take good notes and get a good grade. His knowledge of historical trivia is phenomenal with a sense of humor to match.
I hate history, but he is the BEST teacher. I actually am getting A's & B's on tests, he makes it pretty intresting. Don't buy the book, but there is LOTS of notes. Easy teacher, pretty funny as well.
one of the best teachers ive ever had. he has outlines to go with every lecture and the tests are all essays and come straight from the outlines. I actually got an A in histiry for once!
Dr. Kotlowski is flat out the best teacher at salisbury
Okay-not great, not bad. Could be worse.
Very good teacher. Knows his history. Loves Nixon. Doesn't tolerate losers who disrupt class. must take That 70's class
I'm not a big fan of history, but Dr. K made it tolerable. He knows his stuff, and he made the class easy to follow with outlines and such.
I hated History before I took this class. He is ver clear and makes the class fun. I highly recommend taking him.
He is a very nice guy. He makes class funny and shows a lot of video clips but he talks very fast. It is hard to get all of the notes b/c of how quickly he talks and when you ask him to slow down he does but only for a minute. Also he is very picky and grades very harshly! Don't ever forget a date!
video clips every class, nice guy, easy tests, easy assignments, interesting topics too. he has a funny haircut :)
Makes you take lots of notes and is very detail oriented, you need to know dates and names. He isn't hard if you have a good memory because everything is out of the notes but he is a picky grader.
lots of lecture notes, but he loves the subject and is a great teacher. test is all essays, but he doesnt grade too badly. 3 exams, 2 book quizzes and 1 paper. funny, nice, charismatic, tries to bring up funny anecdotes from history. most lecture, some videos though. all in all, great teacher
talks extremely fast and mumbles alot but seems to make up for it with enthusiasm and unworldly knowledge about subject, tests are difficult but doable and papers are just annoying

i don't agree with the previous comments at all. I am a girl and I think he treats us fairly. He is a great professor and a nice person overall. I really enjoy his classes! Hearts for Dr. K
Waaaaaaaaaay too many notes! I filled up the whole section in my notebook for this class before taking the first test!!!!! I am a History Major and I am used to taking a lot of notes, but this is crazy! Then you are suppost to remember specifics too? Hope you can keep up with this guy.
too many notes - never in for office hours
How can you not like him? He is brilliant. He knows anything you want to know about history and he makes it fun. As far as a lot of notes-- yes it is, BUT it is very helpful to have that many at test time.
Dr. Kotlowski is an awesome prof. Tests are hard but he doesn't grade them hard. He makes the class fun and tells you what you need to know for the tests. a lot of notes, read 3 books(review last of the 3, quiz on 1st 2), and 3 tests including the final. Take him for sure!
He is an excellent teacher. It is a lot of notes but if your willing to put in the time you'll do fine. his lectures always kept me interested and made the time go by fast....if you get the chance you should definately take him!
My roommate made me take 102 with her... kotlowski is so into history. He makes it fun. I had to take America in the 30s with him. His test are easy, he gives you a study guide and stays in the fireside lounge to go over questions the night before. He is funny and very into his classes. Highly suggest taking him
Very interesting guy. Makes the class fun and interesting. Made me love history. Study a lot for the tests!! But if you remember a few of the smallest details, it makes a big difference in the grading.
I hated history before taking Dr. K's class and now I love it. He makes the topics really interesting. The tests are essays straight from the notes...remember DETAILS! I would recommend him to everyone.
He is great. He really has a passion for what he teaches. You will learn a lot from him, but you will have to work for a good grade. His exams are all ID and essay, so be prepared to write. He will give you a study guide with all the possible IDs and essay questions way before the exam date. Great teacher if you like history.
Loved the class
He is a very bright teacher. He really loves teaching history. However, his only flaw is the tests that he gives. They are made up of 3 essays which he grades at his discretion. There are no multiple choice or matching questions where you have a right or wrong answer. He grades the tests too hard.
Really good teacher all you have to do is take his notes and study
I took him for my two history classes (one was 250) and It was a lot of fun. When it comes times for the tests its a lot of work but he is a very fair grader. Just remember the obscure details and he will be impressed. Great teacher, one of the best Ive had in college and has made me think about a history minor
also great dep and history 1900-1945. He is VERY smart. Probably knows more than anyone that you will ever know. A LOT of notes...A LOT. probably 100+ per semester...but if you pay attention in class...he gives you the study guide far in advance. Tests are alot of writing but are graded fairly. always got A's on tests.
He's a great teacher, it was my favorite class last semester. Probably one of the smartest people I've ever met. And he has a sense of humor. I just wish I could have had him this semester!
he tends to talk for the whole time, but he repeats things, especially if you ask. only 2 tests and a final.. i few books but they werent too long. pretty interesting guy. i recommend him, even if you dont like history
Dr. K is a fantastic professor. His exams are easy if you study and pay attention in class. He loves for people to participate in class. He is extremely helpful and will go over things again if you missed them the first time. He offers night before sessions for questions regarding certain things on tests. By far, he is one of SU's best professors.
This guy really knows his stuff. Has review sessions before the exams the night before. His book assignments are actually interesting! Has out of class movie nights too which I thought would be boring but turned out interesting. Good guy. Showed up massively hungover and is so clear I still understood him.
I was really interested in the topic but didnt like the course or the prof who just rambled on
Dr. K is awesome. He really knows what he is talking about. You only have to write 2 papers and 4 short books. He gives you a printed outline for each lecture. His tests are essays, but gives you the questions ahead of time.I would recommend him to anyone. But, you shouldnt waste your money on the text book. His tests are only his outlines and notes
Great guy and professor. Very clear, helpful and interesting. Highly recommeded
Exceptional professor. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, well-organized, and fair. You will have to work for a good grade, but it is worth it. One of the best teachers at SU.
I did like him and his teaching style. He makes history fun.
A much travelled guy who has seen the World and as such can comment on History outside of the 4 walls of the USA.If you care to listen there is much he can teach you
An interesting class, he often incorporates videos/music with lecture which is always appreciated. Very knowledgeable, fun discussions. The only thing is that he is pretty inflexible with finals; if you had a conflict and needed to take it another day, it was out of the question.
Great class. Extremely helpful teacher. He lectures alot but also tries to get students involved.
Favorite teacher at Salisbury. Gives you everything you need to get an A on study guide, you just have to study but he teaches so well studying is easy. Happy and fun, overall a great guy
If you do not enjoy writing, avoid this class. You take a lot of handwritten notes in class off his spoken lectures and all his tests are essays. He is unforgiving about missing class, no matter the reason. He loves the subject, particularly mthyology. You have two books and quizzes on mythology alone.
Doesnt use the book so dont buy it. Gives you everything you need. Just go to class and takes notes and youll be fine, theres are lots of them. 4 test all essay just study info he has given you and youll pass. Great teacher I would take him agin.
After taking his class not only did my hand get a good workout but I also learned a lot. His teaching style made me love history! If you go to his class and take notes you should not have any problem.
Without a doubt my favorite professor at SU. His lectures are interesting, he is willing to repeat things when needed, and he is clearly an expert in his field. His tests are all essay, but I think that they were all easy to get an A on, especially since he gives the questions to you a week ahead of time. I'm taking him as many times as I can
The bet professor at Salisbury University. His class is so intersting and he is a very smart and aproachable professor. He wants all of his students to succeed, as long as you pay attention and go to class you will get an A.
Here's the thing about Kotlowski. He's extremely intelligent & expects a lot from his students. If you're interested in learning & don't mind the work, I encourage you to take him. He's fair, clear about expectations & knowledgeable. IF you're just looking for an easy A or hope to breeze through a Gen Ed, you may want to consider someone else.
Love Kotlowski! There's a reason he has a cult following of students, he's amazing! He's a great lecturer, very passionate about history, and very willing to help any student who needs it. I've taken two classes with him and will take many more if I can!
for his exams he will pick one term out of 30 that you must memorize the who, what, where, when, why for. That is one essay the other is a long one which he picks 1 out of 5 that you must memorize... Easy but a lot to study. fair grader.. also he has everyone write one paper for each of the four books that you must read. lot of work but easy gradeing
The exams are all essays. 2 mini essays and one large essay. It is definitely a lot of work but he doesn't grade that hard. Theres 4 books to read and you have to write a paper for each. He's strict when it comes to attendance and not talking or leaving in the middle of class. Show up and TAKE NOTES and you'll at least get a B or higher.
Great guy, very passionate. It's an hour of notes, but sometimes he throws in movies too. Don't bother buying the textbook, just review your notes before exams and you'll be fine. There are 3 exams and 3 papers, I wrote all 3 papers the night before and got A's; and didn't study too much for the exams and got an A in the class. Definitely recommend
This man is a genius, my favorite professor at Salisbury. He made want to become a history major. Lectures are very interesting, never a dull moment. He requires 5 books for the semester, you only need the three novels, not the textbooks. 3 exams, all writing no multiple choise, one big paper and two small papers but they were so much fun to write.
This guy is so interested in what he does, it really shows and makes the class fun. Lectures with lots of video clips and images, he really ties it all together for you. A few readings are required but they aren't that bad, a few exams that are easy if you just study.
The course starts off slow. You start off learning dry political stuff then towards the middle you get into the fun info about the 70's! LOTS of writing. Each test is an essay. No multiple questions, just two short paragraphs, then an essay. His grading for homework and quizzes are easy but he grades really hard on test. STUDY.
kotlowski is the man. lots of note taking, lots of reading but he spreads it out so not too difficult. his classes are always good though.hes so nice and helpful. absolutely take him if you can
Dr. Kotlowski is one of the best teachers I had at SU. He made the material crystal clear and taught with a great deal of enthusiasm. The exams are basically all essay and the homework is pretty straight forward if you just write something coherent and relevant. He also has the best hair of any professor at the university and shows awesome clips.
Best professor at Salisbury!!! Hands down one of my favorite people in the world. If you want to love history sign up. I accidentally singed up for his class best mistake ever. If he offers any class take it you will not be let down. He is amazingly smart. He breaks it down and he truly wants the best for his students.
Kotlowski was one of my favorite professors last semester. He gives you all the information you need for tests and as long as you memorize that information the class is an easy A. Will definitely take him again for my next history class. Don't buy the textbook, I never touched it.
Dr. Kotlowski was a wealth of information. He really knows his stuff! Likes to sneak in humor and really gets into what he does. He definitely cares about his students and I thought he was pretty easy grader too, especially being a 400 level course. If you get an opportunity, take a class with him! I will certainly try to enroll in another one!
Dr. Kotlowski really interested in what he's teaching. You watch a lot of 70's TV and movies. Video clips in almost every class. No multiple choice, all short answer exams. Pay attention and take good notes
Kotlowski continues to be my favorite history professor. I've had ten HIST classes at SU, 2 with him and they are both awesome. You learn so much and he is a great lecturer. The exams are a little tricky sometimes because he only picks a few IDs out of about 30, but if you go to class and take good notes, you'll do very well. Would take again!!!
He is a good teacher and he really knows what he's talking about. He shows a video clip basically every class and also pictures of his trips to specific areas talked about (like museums or etc.) He is kind of tough on his papers and tests but he gives some feedback that helps. His exams are written and based off his outline he gives out.
He knows what he's talking about, very smart. The only thing that I didn't like was that the exams were all written, and he didn't really have a rubric for what he was grading on/looking for. Basically you wrote everything you knew about it, but you didn't know what format, specifics, etc. I would definitely take a course from him again.
I personally did not like this teacher's style of lecture. He basically talked at you for 75 minutes and expected you to absorb every ounce of information and did not speak slow enough for you to process it. This was irritating when his tests were basically heavy on every specific and minor detail. He would factor in "improvement". Great.
This professor expects you to know all of the information. At least 6 full pages of notes each class and the exams aren't easy. His study guides include 30 topics that you need to know all 5 W's, and he selects 8 to be on the test in which you write on two, making it harder to pass. I would never take his class again. He is impossible
Everything in this course was clear, professional and straightforward. Awesome prof, knows his stuff inside out, loved going to class. Hands down would take him again.
I liked Kotlowski. There is quite a bit of note taking off the PowerPoints, but that's usual. He keeps them interesting though because he's traveled the world and includes his experiences/pictures in his lectures. There are two midterms and one non-comprehensive final exam. Also, there are three 4-5 page papers on 3 separate books. Not bad overall.
Lots of lectures and notes, a few papers here and there, a couple tests, couple quizzes, and some movies with worksheets. Very funny though and a really cool professor. Most of the work is done outside of class. Responds to emails the same day, and is understanding. Lectures are amazing! Would take again!
Very passionate about his subject. Hes very well traveled (as hell tell you) and always brings in little trinkets from different areas. You need to know how to write well for this course. Your grade is 2 papers 2 exams a final and not much else but he does sometimes offer extra credit. On exams he asks for specific details so get ready to study
This was my 2nd time taking Kotlowski, 3 exams and 2 papers. He's a stickler for punctuality and attendance, so don't take him if you're late a lot or plan on skipping. Gives study guides for tests and will let you bring papers to his office hours for feedback before it's due. Returns assignments/exams the next class. Take good notes from lecture!!
Lots of lectures but is super passionate and makes them really interesting! Show up on time and be respectful and he will treat you with respect. A great professor and I hope to have him again.
Best teacher ever, this is the best class I've ever taken. he shows such passion in his teaching, and even throws in jokes and real life experiences making it more interesting. He was always open during office hours, and would edit our papers for us before they were do if needed. he was understanding and im so sad this class is coming to an end
Favorite professor at SU! Very organized and passes out an outline for each lecture. He's a generous grader, he'll help you with papers in his office as well. He loves cultural and presidential history. The one thing to be careful about is that he is a stickler for classroom decorum. Don't show up late, no tech use in class, and be respectful.
Dr K is always very respectful to his classes every time you walk through his door. From something like history that is known to bore people, i actually didn't mind his class at all. He has traveled the world a ton and shows it during his power points and we also watch videos almost every class.
This class is VERY note-heavy. He makes you take notes the entire class and you are only allowed to handwrite them. he's very strict about being on time, he takes attendance and he does not let you get up during class. I had to read 4 books for this class. His exams are a lot, 2 questions just all writing. if you take this class be ready to write.
He is one of the best professor's I've had. You have to take notes, study, and work for your grade. His exams, though its writing long essay questions, are exactly from the notes. Also, there's lots of reading involved but its straight forward. He gives good feedback on essay's and you can actually see where you went wrong. Also gives extra credit.
Dr. Kotlowski makes this class very enjoyable, his lectures are very clear, concise and organized. There is pictures and video clip for almost every lecture which makes understanding the subject more interesting. Hes a traveller with real travel experiences he shares in class. Cares about students, cares about their performance and progress.
Great teacher, the work is easy you just have to be in class for the notes
Probably my favorite professor at SU. Extremely knowledgeable, interesting and engaging lectures, and gives excellent feedback and guidance on assignments and test material. He is a bit strict, but it's not an issue for respectful students. There are only a few large assignments during the year but he grades fairly and gives lots of resources.
Dr. K was phenomenal. He was a huge help with the Capstone paper and made ample time to guide us on the process. He lectured some, but they were all engaging. He provided resources and advice throughout the writing process and his critiques made correction rough drafts easy. I truly believe there is no better professor to help you write a paper.
He gave amazing lectures and you can tell he was actually passionate about the history he was teaching. Definitely a tough grader but if you follow instructions you should be fine. My biggest tip is if you know you're going to be any more than 5 minutes late, do NOT show up, he will get angry. Besides that I had a great time in his class.
Dr. Kotlowski was a good professor but his lectures just were not my style. I missed a good amount of class but because there wasn't too much work for the class, I got by with a B overall.
I absolutely loved Dr. Kotlowski! You only have a couple of papers to write that are based off the books you read. He is available before your paper is due to review it with you to make sure you get a good grade. The class is lecture heavy, but as long as you take good notes, you will do well on the tests. Extra credit is offered on the tests.
Professor Kotlowski's class is note-heavy but engaging. Attend every lecture, take detailed notes, and read the assigned texts. Though the exams are challenging, the feedback on essays is valuable. Unstuck ai proved helpful for efficient study prep.
By far one of my favorite teachers here. Im not a big fan of history but he made the class so interesting. I actually enjoyed showing up to class for once. He is very educated and informed on what he is teaching and feels strongly about it. tests are only hard if you don't show up to lectures. If you show up u should have no issue passing
This course gave an interesting perspective to American history that is often forgotten about or censored in typical high school classes. The coursework was fairly manageable, with a small weekly quiz, worksheets, and a few short essays throughout the semester. If you pace yourself with the material and readings, you will be successful.
