great teacher! he is a helpfull teacher..tests are based on what he teaches in class w/ a combo of stuff from book.. if u do u're h.w and read the book the class is easy.gives helpful handouts.goes step by step and teaches untill u really understand the material.

Easiest math course I've ever taken. I got an A without studying and I normally struggle for C's in math. He let us us notes and book on the tests. He doesn't care about attendance either.
he's nice, but very boring. I didn't understand his teaching style, but he did cut me a break, so for that im very thankful. He understands that students have lives, and he goes easy on the homework, but if your not good in math your definitely gonna need the math lab with this Prof.
I don't know where all of these positive comments are comming from BECAUSE THEY ARE EXTREMELY MISLEADING!!! He is a very disorganized teacher. Writes all over the board and continues with lessons like there is no one else in the room but him (he's the only one that understands himself). VERY DISSAPPOINTING!!!

I think Dr. Loring is an amazing teacher. He teaches so that people that get mental blocks with Algebra (as I do) can understand it! He is so lenient, but of course, you have to do your part. I plan to take College Alg. with him!!!
This teacher give handouts,makes a lot of mistakes when doing the problems in the blackboard, he writes all over the board , that gets to confuse you to the point that you do not if he is actually solving a problem or if he is just explaining why things had to be done the way he does them, sometimes he is in bad mood and bad bad handwriting. RUN!!!

I must agree that Professor Loring is ver unorganized and is very confusing but he is a garanted "A" or "B" just do a little homework and you'll be fine. He is good if you just trying to get a grade but bad if your major requires math. I hate math and I got "B's" in both mac1105 and mat1033.
He is the nicest guy. He makes his tests extremely similar to the homework and they are multiple choice! He does not put trick questions either, everything is straight forward. I recommend him!
You've got to be kidding me. If you aren't willing to teach yourself, avoid this teacher. Go ahead and ask for a review and he'll just get mad. However, his grading curve is AWESOME. I got an A, but not from listening to this guy. He also makes a lot of mistakes in his math and you'll have to corret him again and again.

What are these other people talking about! He is really cool and he gives mostly take home tests. Yes he is a little weird and makes mistakes but it is worth it bc he dosent care about attendence and the tests are just like the homework. If you can't get an A in this class then you are way too lazy becasue this class is designed for lazy people.

Very Nice guy, but I have to agree....he does make alot of mistakes on the board while doing math problems in class. He gives you tons of Xtra credit for turning in HomeWork :) If you do the homework & study for his EASY math Tests.....you should have no problem getting an A or B. Super cool teacher, a bit nerdy.
He is a horrible teacher. He basically just does the problems on the board and does not teach how to do them. He gets so confusing to the point that you don't even know what he's teaching anymore. He is also very rude and does not like when people ask him ?s. I e-mailed him last week about the class. Now the class is over and he still no response.
I hated this class with a passion! every sec in there was killing my brain cells. This guy does the problems on the board and doesn't say which problem he is doing what chapter what property it is. He gives you pool problems which are to be checked along with the problem. He sucks and i dind't learn a damn thing! never agian beware

This professor explain his subjects so much that he loses you in the process. Lucky me that I know math otherwise I would of have failed his class. He confuses the class, and sometimes he even gets lost doing his own problems. Can be rude at times, but as long as you stay on his good side you will do fine.
I dont know why there are so many bad comments he is actually a very nice guy. I am absolutely horrible in math and I got an A. He is a little boring but, he will work with you if your just nice to him. He does make a lot of mistakes so just doubble check your tests, he will give the class points if he makes a mistake. Iwould recommend him.
This teacher is absolutely HORRIBLE. He really sucks at teaching the material and you will learn more by studying yourself than you will EVER learn from him. He constantly messes up his problems on the board, he is not clear about absolutely anything, and all his H.W. is internet based and GRADED.

I think Loring is a very good teacher. I took him for Intermediate Algebra and got an A. He's fair, works with you. You can definitely ask question in his class. Good guy. I recommend him. Tests are fair if you study for them.

you need to like math and be good at it...you always need to stay on top of everything because he makes a lot of mistakes and he is not that organized, he confuses you sometimes. You will get good grades if you study a lot and do the work on your own with the book.his notes are kind of helpfull.He is nice if you are nice to him.
Helpful when you ask questions, but useless while lecturing. Take lots of notes and refer to the book many times. Be prepared to catch his mistakes during lecture. Remember, Rule #17, "Don't do math and talk about math at the same time, it will mess you up." :)
I took him for Trig. On his exams he puts what he thinks you should already know not what he teaches. From the homework there were only a few problems, many people dropped or failed. If u need to be taught math, take different professor.

Mr.Loring is an average College Algebra teacher. I had to stay on top of things to get my A. He hates it when you leave in the middle of class or when a cell phone rings. His tests were not that hard. He puts what you did on the homework onto the test. He's a fair teacher.
He is the worst Math Prof. I have ever had in my life. He gets very angry when you ask questions and when he lectures he is basically teaching himself. He DOES NOT give take home tests. He makes you buy the solutions manual and on the first day of class he told us " I am not your teacher I am your instructor" He should not be teaching.

He wasn't much of a teacher. He talked in circles and just didn't keep anyones attention. I took this class a couple years ago (Just found the site) I don't recall him checking homework but if you wanted to learn you had to do it. He was very confusing!

Would take again, uses mathXL for homework, you NEED THE BOOK read sections prior to classes otherwise his lectures will not make sense.

I took him Summer 09 and it was a nightmare!!Everyday i went to class i was confused, lost, and frustrated with his lectures. He uses examples that are extremely harder and irrevelant to what's going to be on his exams. Ask him a question you will get a round about answer. If it wasn't for Math XL hW 25% of overall grade i wouldn't have passed.
i took him for cal2 listen i havetaking him b4 to he is lost in his own world! cant teach for much. but if you want an easy A take him , its all motiple choice bcause he doesnt want waste time grading and does not take attendance, i never open my book or did any howmework and still get an A. take him if you want boost up u gpa!

Professor Loring is very in love with Math. He spends a lot more time showing you why it works rather than how to do it. However, his tests aren't too bad.

If you are coming from high school and you barely passed math like myself DO NOT Take this man. If you look around the class everyone head is done within 15 minutes of the class. He is very rude, loud, and impatient. NO NO NO ! Dont ! Believe me .
Mr. Loring is a great teacher. As someone who struggled with math, I found him to be very helpful. You have to put in a lot of effort in his class and make sure you show up every day. His tests are not hard at all if you study. I will take him again next semester.

this is by far the worst teacher i have ever had in my 16 years of schooling. he makes the subject way more difficult than it needs to be. will answer your questions as long as he understands what you're asking (which usually he does not). freaks out if you question his arithmetic. find a different teacher!!
He is a good teacher but a little hard of hearing so be loud and clear when asking a question. When he makes a mistake he is glad to be corrected. He is very helpful during and after class when needed. BUT, if he is in a bad mood you will know it if someone messes up.
He is a good teacher. Does not even need to look at the book once. He is clear and all his tests are easy. I passed with an A and i was never that good in math. Im taking him for another class. HOWEVER, 1. Thou shall not be late... 2. Thou shall not use thy phone 3. Thou shall not leave class in the middle of his lesson (even if you have to pee)
Great Professor very understanding. he is willing to answer any questions. One of the best math teachers. He know his material. I recommend him.

He wasn't the worst but he is a bit of a crank. Class is easy if you know what you're doing because he is not very clear. Would say an easy A but i managed to get a B. Take him if you have to but other wise try better.
I would say it simple. If you have many other options to take this class with a different profesor, please do so!!! he teaches to the board, cranky and not helpful. I passed the class because of my tutor, not for his explanations, and worst, he gets upset when you ask questions. don't step out of class or event intend to use your phone.
The class was not easy but this Professor is great.Two rules: you cannot be late for class and you cannot get up to leave class for any reason. His test are easy and he is very helpful he always ask for question before a class and before a test. I have taken him him for Mat1033 as well and passed with a B and math has never been my strong point.
I think he really doesn't know what he's doing. He doesn't teach with much clarity and makes a lot of mistakes as where students are correcting him the majority of the time. My advice would be to take another professor.

Professor Loring is cranky, but I <3 him. I struggled with math before, but got a B. I was absent lots, but he always accepted my homework next class. He does examples on the board all class and sometimes makes a few mistakes, but we all do! Tests are multiple choice. He just demands your attention with no interruptions.
After attending the first class I went straight home to drop. Any absence in the class brings your grade down a whole letter. No excuses. When a C is required to pass the course, obviously this does not give you any room for absences. Even going to the bathroom counts as an absence. Isnt This guy is untidy and rude. DO NOT recommend this teacher.
I would not recommend him. Makes a lot of errors when writing a problem on the board, very crabby and gets annoyed when you do not understand the material/ask for help. Go to the lab, teach yourself with the textbook, get a tutor etc. to pass. Do the homework it helps, the one good thing is he drops your lowest test grade & doubles your highest
NOT RECOMMENDED!!! He is more focused on babysitting and policing the few children that goof off rather than teaching the students that actually came to learn. He makes many errors, can't hear anything unless he is in your face and is quite temperamental. Sorry to say - not easy to approach & makes a boring class even harder to find interest in.

This is a great professor. He can be a little confusing at times, but he teaches the subject well and stays after class to answer all your questions. In our class he dropped the lowest test grade and graded the homework in a bundle before each test. Very fair, all you need to do is study and you will get an A!

Prof. Loring can be cranky at times, but he is always nice and shows up on time, he even stays after just in case anyone has questions. He gives 5 tests(not including final) they are multiple choice, and he drops the lowest grade. Homework is essential for understanding the material. He explains everything, and makes sure everyone understands.

I felt bad for him at first because he was hassled by the more immature students but by the the 4th week I was out of sympathy. He is so rude! If you try to ask him a question after class, or even fix his incorrect answers he'll snap at you. He cant admit when hes wrong. The only good thing is that all the hw is on the syllabus. Avoid this prof.
He was a fine teacher. Only ued the book for homework, didn't have to use MyMath Lab, used InterAct math instead. Very helpful if you had questions, but could get cranky if you were rude. Act like an adult and you will be fine in his class. NO PHONES AND NO GETTING UP AND LEAVING IN THE MIDDLE OF LECTURE. Easy tests, lets you use note sheet.
Took professor Loring both for Mat1033 and Mac 1105. DO ALL HIS HOMEWORK. HIs tests are easy and he is always willing to help you. But do not get on his bad side. Do not leave the class room and do not use a cell phone. But he is the BEST math teacher I ever had.
Professor Loring is very hard of hearing. He tends to talk to the board with his back towards you when showing examples. If you have a question, you have to yell out loudly his name to get him to stop. If you wait till he is done and turns around to ask your question, he gets annoyed that you didn't ask while he was demonstrating. Frustrating
Get Ready to bleed from your eyes. This professor is horrible, he goes off topic when he is teaching a new lesson, and he teaches 2 chapters in 1 hour an 15 minutes. If he teaching something about chapter 6 he jumps to chapter 10 to give you useless insight that you do not need. My advise stay away.

it is almost impossible to learn with this professor, you pretty much have to teach yourself. You have to literally yell for him to hear you and he's pretty rude too. In my opinion he's not a good professor at all. At least his tests are easy even if you're not great at math. Just practice the material and you should pass
Worst teacher i've ever had in my entire life. He can't hear until he walks up to you and interrupts the entire lecture to entertain your question and then doesn't even answer it correctly. This professor was very tough to deal with. first, you need to yell for him to hear you. his lectures are all over the place and he sounds like he is mumbling. get ready to read chicken scractches because HE CANT WRITE FOR LIFE!!!!! I learned NOTHING in this class. I literally had to sit there and write what was on the board and go to my tutors so they can help me from the beginning. If you're looking for an easy time or even a good Algebra lecturer, I wouldn't recommend this professor. He's a great mathematician, but a bad teacher. Good news: he isn't a stickler for attendance and he's lenient with late homework submissions. Bad news: he makes TONS of mistakes during lectures, which makes it hard to keep up. Mediocre at best.
Please do yourself a favor and do not take this professor. If you are an all A, 4.0 GPA student, please do not take this professor. Even the best of the best will struggle in this class. You cannot ask questions because he makes you feel intimidated, he makes NUMEROUS mistakes while teaching, and the test grades are your entire grade average. WORST

This man is by far the worst. He doesnt follow the syllabus and he can single-handedly destroy your GPA. He gave one test but used various questions of the test for 10 different grades. Not even halfway through this semester and Prof. Loring's class is genuinely the lowest form of education I have ever received. He wears hearing aids that only work if you yell it in his ear 3 times and the way he explains things is incredibly redundant and confusing. If you enjoy senile old farts who can't teach a class for their life, go for it!
Prof. Loring's class is a struggle. Redundant explanations and hearing aid issues make it tough to learn. But Unstuckstudy helped me stay on top of the material.
If you don't have a choice just get this class next term with different professor. This guy doesn't hear at all. He knows math but he doesn't know how to teach it. Never take him!!!!
